Great White Shark Tour

As the marine ecosystem in Monterey Bay has improved, there has been a population explosion of great white sharks.

This three to four-hour tour is your opportunity to see some of the most exciting wildlife in the bay up close and personal from the comfort and safety of the boat Our vessel provides easier spotting from an elevated viewpoint rather than a boat closer to the water. Naturalists on board educate you on these fascinating apex predators  as we head toward the wreck of the S.S. Palo Alto, also known as the cement ship, located near Aptos in Santa Cruz County. This sunken ship provides sharks plenty of food since it has become an artificial reef full of easy prey.

The home of one of California’s newest and most active populations of great white sharks, this rookery is a breeding ground where you may spot both juveniles and adults up to 20 feet long! Along the way, you may still get to see the many humpback whales and dolphins in our path.

What You’ll See : Very large great white sharks – if you’re lucky.

Tip : The best way to spot a shark is to wear polarized sunglasses and scan the horizon looking for dark shadows and dorsal tips protruding from the water. Shadows may look like kelp that is moving and not staying in one spot.

This is one of our most popular tours and trips sell out fast!

These trips get you up close and personal with the sharks of Florida from the comfort of our seaworthy boats . Just thirty minutes from the dock and in the calm waters of the coastal Atlantic. For shark viewing trips we offer morning and afternoon trips. This trip is a great way to spend half the day on the water and get to see one of nature’s greatest predators at work.

Once we reach the shark grounds, just a short boat ride from the dock, we lower bait lines into the water for sharks to feed on. It doesn’t take long for sharks to show up and provide you with an up close and personal encounter and enough time to get as many pictures and video as you can.

There is no diving on these trips and everybody gets to watch the sharks from the dry comfort of the boat. It is also possible for guests to “wrangle” sharks on this trip as they attack the bait lines next to the boat.

Aside from sharks you get the chance to see dolphins and other wildlife along with the scenery of Florida. This is a great trip for those looking to spend a few hours of adventure watching sharks in the waters of Florida. Shark viewing trips are perfect for families and groups along with individuals.

shark watching tours

Imagine yourself viewing these beautiful and mysterious creatures in their natural habitat, riding alongside them as they glide through the waters of Cape Cod.

Join us aboard fishing vessel Cape Star with Captain Cullen Lundholm and you will be able to view Cape Cod White Sharks on a private guided tour, observing the sharks in their natural habitat, capturing pictures, videos, and making memories that will last a lifetime.  Come join us for a Cape Cod Great White Shark tour this summer and see for yourself how magnificent and enormous these giants truly are!

The waters of the outer beaches of Cape Cod offer some of the best possible viewing experiences for Great White Sharks around the globe.  The shallow, clear, cold water coupled with white sandy bottoms offers a viewing experience that is second to none.

We use a spotter pilot flying overhead to direct us to the Cape Cod White Sharks, so you can expect to have an excellent viewing experience.  We typically spot multiple Great White Sharks on each trip and come within a couple meters or less for excellent visibility.

See for yourself.

See what's in store for you on your private guided cape cod great white shark tour in this video shot summer 2019..

Watch as we head out to the back side of Cape Cod in search of Great White Sharks. Beautiful weather, excellent visibility, and a few nice sharks made for a very exciting afternoon.

About Your Trip

Once leaving the dock, we will run across one of Cape Cod’s inner waterways. Occasionally, we will be able to spot sharks inside of the bays, although the vast majority of the Cape Cod Great White Shark viewing will take place on the outer beaches of Cape Cod. The waters in which we view the sharks will vary in depths from 4 to 15 ft.  The underwater white sandbar tidal flats give us a beautiful viewing point for these sharks.

The Cape Cod White Sharks that we view vary in size from smaller sharks in the range of 8-10 feet to much larger sharks pushing 20 feet long.

Our Cape Cod Great White Shark tours are an excellent way to view not only the Great White Sharks, but also the diverse aquatic ecosystem of Cape Cod.  On your trip you will likely see many ocean dwelling birds, feeding fish, seals, and other wildlife in addition to the pinnacle of the trip: the North Atlantic Great White Shark.

Great White Sharks are a protected species and we treat them as such.  We are viewing them in their natural habitat and do so in a way that we do not disturb them. We often times get close to the sharks without interrupting them, but if a shark’s behavior shows any sign that it feels threatened or uneasy, we will back off and search for another shark.

Please note, all tours are subject to weather conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your cancellation policy?

For a full refund, a minimum of 7 days notice is required.

Cancellations made less than 7 days in advance – but more than 48 hrs before departure time – will be charged 50%.

No-shows and cancellations made 48 hrs or less before departure time will be charged full price.

What if there is bad weather?

Safety is ultimately our top priority.  We will not operate in hazardous weather conditions such as heavy rain, thick fog, high winds or thunder and lightning.  If severe weather cancels your reservation we will make every effort to reschedule for another day.  Otherwise, a full refund will be issued.

However, no guarantees can be made that every part of every day will be perfectly sunny.  So we will operate as usual in overcast conditions, light fog and in intermittent sprinkles.  Guests should dress appropriately for changeable weather and bring a positive attitude!

The final decision on weather related cancellations rests with the captain and reservations should be considered upheld unless we contact you directly.

How early should I show up for my reservation?

To leave enough time for our check-in procedure, we recommend your party arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time.  Leave yourself some margin for traffic or parking related delays, pre-departure bathroom stops, etc.

For Private Charters :

There will be no refunds or credits for customers arriving late.  Trips are scheduled multiple times per day and to ensure that all of our reservations are honored, your tour will still have to return at its regularly scheduled time.

For Group Charters:

Group tours will leave at the regularly scheduled departure time – no exceptions.  There will be no refunds or credits for customers arriving after the boat has departed.

What should I wear? What should I bring?

WHAT TO BRING:

  • A valid form of ID (only necessary for the person who has made the reservation).
  • If your tour/rental has not been prepaid, you will need to bring a form of payment.  We accept all major credit cards and/or cash.  Guests of the Wequassett Resort can also charge to their room account if they prefer.
  • An additional layer of clothing.  Even if its t-shirt weather in your driveway, always assume it will be cooler on the water.  For shorter tours, a sweatshirt or a light jacket is often enough.  For offshore trips, a water-resistant jacket plus a sweatshirt is ideal.  Temperatures can drop 20 degrees when heading offshore and clothing can quickly get wet if fog is present.
  • Please wear boat shoes, non-scuffing white-soled sneakers or relax and go barefoot.
  • Snacks/beverages.  Please see additional FAQ’s for restrictions.
  • Sunscreen (non-spray only).
  • Polarized sunglasses .  These will help you see through the glare on the water.

DO NOT BRING:

  • Spray sunscreen.
  • Marking shoes or sandals.
  • Hard alcohol.
  • Cigarettes/cigars/vapes (no smoking allowed).
  • Drugs of any kids.
  • Beer bottles or glass containers.  (Wine bottles are fine.  Beer in cans is also fine).
  • Anything that can easily blow away.
  • Dogs or other pets.
  • Large coolers.  Each of our vessels already has a large cooler onboard.  Feel free to bring a small cooler and small bags.
  • Large meals.  It just doesn’t work well on an open, moving boat.  Keep food/snacks simple!

May food and drinks be brought on board?

All of our trips include complimentary bottled water.  Additionally, customers are welcome to bring their own snacks and beverages.

Please remember that you will be eating/drinking on a boat that is moving, open to the wind and may or may not have a table or cup holders (we operate several vessels and each is equipped differently).  Our advice is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and don’t bring anything that you aren’t prepared to eat in your lap.  Smaller snacks and finger foods are easiest and less likely to stain your clothing and our upholstery.

For adults over 21, reasonable amounts of beer and wine are also allowed.

RESTRICTIONS:

  • Leave the red wine at home.  On a moving boat it will stain clothing and upholstery.
  • No hard alcohol.
  • Please opt for cans and minimize glass containers in general.  Wine bottles are allowed but no beer bottles.  We will provide plastic cups if needed.

Any excessive use of alcohol will result in the immediate termination of the trip with no recourse.

What happens if my group size changes after booking?

For Private Charters:

The group size you specify at booking will slot you into a specific boat size.  As long as you stay within the specified range (1-6 passengers or 7-12 passengers), nothing more needs to be done.

If your group size grows into the next range of passengers, please contact us to see if a larger boat is available at your requested time.

If your group size shrinks into a smaller range of passengers, please contact us to see if a smaller boat is available at your requested time.

Please contact us directly to add/remove seats.  We have a limited amount of space on our group charters and each seat you initially reserve must be paid for unless you cancel ahead of time.  Cancellations/adjustments are subject to our cancellation policy (please see additional FAQ’s).

Do children and infants count towards passenger capacity?

Yes.  Each of our vessels is rated for a certain capacity by the United States Coast Guard and the USCG does not differentiate between children and adults.  A 14 person capacity means fourteen human beings, for example – regardless of age.

Will I get seasick?

The majority of our customers experience little to no symptoms of seasickness.  But whether it is your first charter or you are a seasoned pro, motion sickness is always possible on ocean-going trips.  Fortunately, there are ways to proactively avoid the most common symptoms (dizziness, nausea, vomiting).

Prepare for your charter by being well rested and well hydrated.  Avoid alcohol and large amounts of caffeine until after your trip (including the night before).  During your charter do not lay down, read or play on your phone.  Stay active, breathe deeply and watch the horizon.  Convince yourself you are not seasick – focusing or dwelling on your anxieties will only make you feel worse.

Those with a history of motion sickness might consider one of the over the counter remedies or doctor prescribed medications currently on the market.  Please consult with your physician for suggestions.

Are there any age restrictions or physical restrictions?

There are no age restrictions for our Shark Tours.  We have hosted newborns to octogenarians without issue.  However, given the nature of the ocean, not every day is appropriate for every group.  Please let us know (leave a comment at checkout) if your group includes young children so we can keep a close eye on the weather and adjust accordingly.

Those with mobility issues must be able to walk down the resort dock (which has ramps) and step up into the vessel.  Very rarely is this an issue, but it should be mentioned.  Our team will assist in any way they can to ensure those with mobility issues are comfortable.

Are pets allowed on your charters?

We do not allow dogs on any of our ocean going trips.

However, in certain circumstances, we may allow dogs on some of our motor boat tours.  See our Harbor & Seal Tour, Beachcomber Tour and Sunset Cruise items for more information.

Do you provide life jackets for children?

Yes, we have life jackets for all shapes and sizes (even infants).  While we recommend that everybody wear a life jacket on our boats, by law only those 12 and younger have to wear one at all times.  Your boat will have enough life jackets on board for everybody in your group.  Younger children are welcome to bring their own life jacket if they are more comfortable, provided it is Coast Guard approved (no arm floaties, please!).

How do you attract the sharks? Do we chum the waters?

In the interest of public safety, it is currently against the law in Massachusetts to actively chum the waters in hopes of attracting a great white shark to your boat.  Down Cape Charters uses a spotter plane to find sharks – we go to them instead of having them come to us!

Are sightings guaranteed?

The short answer is, “No”.  When working with wild animals in their natural environment, it is impossible to guarantee viewings.

We can guarantee that we will put each passenger into the best position possible to view sharks that day.  This means safe and reliable access to an area known for a high concentration of shark activity.  It also means monitoring the weather and wind conditions for appropriate visibility.  With the aid of a spotter plane, we are confident that your chances of spotting a shark with us on Cape Cod are as good as anywhere else in the world!

Do you offer cage diving?

No.  Down Cape Charters currently offers shark viewing trips where customers stay within the safe confines of the boat at all times.  This is a surface viewing trip using the aid of a spotter plane.

9 Cape Cod Shark Tours & Experiences This Year

Over the last decade or so, there has been an increase in the number of great white sharks that migrate to Cape Cod waters. While some people feel shock and terror as a result, others are amazed and curious about these giant fish. If you’re in the latter category, you might want to see the sharks for yourself.

cape cod shark tours

Get our free Cape Cod Vacation Guide, full of the best things to do in Cape Cod. The best activities, restaurants, museums, events, views, and much more!

Luckily, you can choose from a variety of Cape Cod shark tours — all of which make safety a priority.

What You Should Know About Great White Sharks

You already know that great white sharks are marine predators, but you may enjoy your Cape Cod shark tour more if you’re armed with more unique facts. First of all, they aren’t the mindless killing machines as portrayed in the 1975 film “Jaws.” In fact, only 33% to 50% of the average 100 annual shark attacks worldwide are attributed to great whites.

Despite that, great whites are the biggest predatory fish on the planet, growing to an average 15 feet long and weighing more than 1 ton on average. Some of them grow longer than 20 feet and weigh 2.5 tons or more. They have several rows of up to 300 triangular teeth, too.

In general, great whites prefer cool water along coastlines, like around Cape Cod. Regardless, there’s been a rise in shark sightings because the seal population has climbed over the years. As the sharks mature, they develop a bigger appetite, and their favorite prey becomes seals and other small marine mammals. That’s why most great white shark attacks on humans aren’t fatal, and any fatal attack is likely because the marine predators mistake people for prey, according to research.

In appearance, great white sharks are slate gray on top, which helps them blend in with the rocky sea floor. Their bellies are white, which is where the name comes from. Shaped like torpedoes, they have powerful tails and can swim up to 15 mph and completely breach the surface of the water — similar to whales — while feeding.

Rising Interest in Cape Cod Shark Adventures

Thousands of people have been interested in Cape Cod shark tours for decades because “Jaws” was mainly filmed from Martha’s Vineyard. But with the shark population increasing since 2010, the shark ecotourism game has changed.

In summer 2018, there were two great white shark attacks off the coast — one of which was fatal, the first in the state since 1936. Since then, officials have improved equipment and training for first responders and lifeguards to keep public beaches safe. When sharks are spotted close to the shore, swimming beaches temporarily close.

Meanwhile, many businesses and charter boat operators have started to embrace Cape Cod’s great white shark reputation. Some businesses have amped up the availability of shark-themed merchandise — such as clothing, jewelry, popular stickers, and more. Charters are now offering boat tours alongside fishing, seal, and whale watching excursions. A state marine biologist told Associated Press that this shark tourism industry could be beneficial for studying the fish, as long as the tours are done responsibly.

And they are. Most Cape Cod shark tour operators stay at least hundreds of yards offshore to avoid changing the fish’s natural behavior and encouraging them to swim into shallow water near beaches.

Best Cape Cod Shark Tours & Adventures

With these great white shark details, you can really enjoy a shark tour. All of the tours below are only available between July and November because that’s the time of year great whites are in Cape Cod waters.

While great white sharks may be the focus of many tours, other sharks that swim around the peninsula include blue, mako, porbeagle, and thresher sharks.

Dive Bounty Hunter

There’s only one operator (that we know of) that offers shark cage diving operations off Cape Cod — Dive Bounty Hunter . Departing from locations in South Yarmouth, Nantucket Island, and Martha’s Vineyard, the company has a super strong cage that it custom built for viewing sharks from underwater. Masks, snorkels, and wetsuits are provided, but you can use your own gear as well. Those who don’t want to get into the water, though, can still get a good view of the powerful silhouette from the boat cockpit. Each trip lasts more than 6 hours dock to dock.

White Shark Tours Cape Cod

Operating from Sesuit Harbor in South Dennis and Bass River in South Yarmouth, White Shark Tours Cape Cod with Captain Cullen Lundholm offers private charters to observe sharks in their natural habitat. A spotter pilot flies over the 27-foot Conch boat to assist with sightings and offer the best great white shark viewing experience possible. The company boasts seeing multiple sharks within meters of the boat on each trip, which lasts about 3 hours.

Jail Break Fishing Charters

Offering two different Cape Cod shark tours, Jail Break Fishing Charters operates out of Saquatucket Harbor in Harwich Port. The Bluefin Tuna/Shark Tour takes you on a fishing excursion for bluefin tuna, one of the most aggressive and fastest fish in the ocean. Shark fishing is allowed too, just not for great whites. The Great White Shark & Seal Tour, though, takes you on a sightseeing tour of these marine creatures and doesn’t include fishing.

Stick N’ Rudder Aero Tours

For a look at great white sharks from the sky, book a flight with Stick N’ Rudder Aero Tours , which flies from Chatham Municipal Airport. This 55-minute sightseeing flight covers the lower region of Cape Cod and Monomoy Island, but it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll see the giant fish. However, you’re guaranteed to see gorgeous beaches, lighthouses, and seals.

BlueWater Entertainment

From Chatham, the world’s premier destination for viewing great white sharks, BlueWater Entertainment offers shark tours alongside its whale watching, fishing, and other boat cruises. You have the option between taking the tour with a spotter plane or not. Paying the extra for the spotter plane, though, greatly improves the chance that you’ll see great whites and other sharks.

Atlantic White Shark Conservancy

Located in Chatham, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy has a few shark-related boat adventures. The Receiver Excursion is a 1-hour cruise in Chatham Harbor that involves retrieving a shark receiver and analyzing the data to see if a tagged great white has passed through the area. The Private White Shark Expeditions give you the opportunity to see the apex predators and learn about them.

The AWSC does more than offer shark watching tours. It’s a nonprofit shark research group dedicated to educating people about sharks, as well as improving proactive shark safety measures and researching these fish. You can take an in-depth look at great white sharks at the Shark Center, which has interactive exhibits, virtual reality experiences, and video displays.

Monomoy Sportfishing

Of the many charter boat operators on Cape Cod, Monomoy Sportfishing in Chatham has the most experience running great white shark tours. As a matter of fact, it’s the peninsula’s original Great White Shark cruise business. The company works with a professional spotter pilot. During the 2-hour tour, the boat captain can communicate privately and in real-time with the spotter pilot to get as close to the sharks as safety allows.

Although seeing great whites isn’t guaranteed, Monomoy Sportfishing boasts a more than 99% success rate. And, if you want to see more than great white sharks, it offers a 4-hour combo tour with whale watching.

Down Cape Charters & Boat Rentals

From Harwich, Down Cape Charters & Boat Rentals offers Cape Cod shark tours through Shark Alley. This area is a stretch of open Atlantic water along the coast of Nauset Beach, Chatham, and Monomoy Island. Every cruise lasts about 2 hours on the Bellamy, a U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessel. An experienced, licensed captain and a private spotter aircraft lead the hunt for the great white predator.

A naturalist guide provides interesting facts along the way about shark anatomy and physiology, conservation efforts, and the peak shark sightings over the last 10 years. Also, the tour includes viewing the seal colony population and learning about the delicate balance between seal conservation and the safety of the public.

Dragonfly Sportfishing

Dragonfly Sportfishing is another operator that offers Cape Cod Great White Shark Tours with assistance from a private spotter plane. Before each 2.5-hour tour, Captain Mike Bosley and his team assess sea conditions, recent sightings, and weather to give you an accurate probability of seeing these marine predators. If you want to extend your time on the 23-foot SeaCraft, you can for an additional per-hour fee.

cape cod shark tours

Staying Safe While Swimming in Cape Cod Waters

Cape Cod shark tours offer the best experience that you can safely get with great whites. However, it’s possible to see these predatory fish from dozens of beaches along the outer arm of the peninsula. Nauset Beach on Cape Cod has the most shark sightings, so it’s wise to know if a shark is nearby when you’re in the water.

Essentially, sharks could be nearby if you see a patch of dark water with white dots flying up in the air. This indicates that a school of fish is in a feeding frenzy. The commotion and resulting bloody chum can attract investigative sharks.

If you’re nearby, you could be mistaken for food. You should remain calm as you head to shore, sticking near other people as you do. Sharks are more intimidated by groups of people (and prey). If a shark is coming at you aggressively (which is very rare), use any objects nearby — like rocks or Boogie boards — to strike sensitive spots on the shark, such as the eyes and gills.

Outermost Adventures Great White Shark Tours

Come join Outermost Harbor for one of our truly unforgettable White Shark Tours. We had a 100% success rate in 2022! We have our two charter boats available to provide the best Great White Shark tour available. Our marina location is 5 min from the sharking grounds! Our location for departure means more time with the sharks. Seeing, and spending time, with these amazing apex predators will almost feel surreal. They fully know they are at the top of the food chain and will allow us to glide along side them without hesitation.  Guided by an experienced spotter plane above, finding and spending time with our local resident Great White Sharks has never been better. Visitors and locals alike can participate in ‘Citizens Science’ as they add white shark sightings to the Sharktivity App , and record observations to be shared with the white shark research team. Our guest experience is truly cannot be beat.

The trips are 2.5 hours and will focus on the ecology, shifting sands/marine landscape of Monomoy, and interaction between the seal colonies and the sharks that occur on our doorstep. Peak season is July-Oct for these trips. Like any free-swimming marine creature, shark sightings are not guaranteed but we have seen them, with cooperative weather conditions, nearly every trip out. Please contact us for availability and pricing for this unique and immersive shark experience. Truly bucket-list material!

About Great White Sharks on Cape Cod

Carcharadon carcharias.

Great White Sharks are apex predators in Cape Cod’s marine ecosystem. Growing up to 20 feet in length and weighing up to 4,000 lbs., they arrive in the spring as the water temperatures warm to feed on their favorite prey; grey seals.  The population of grey seals has exploded in Cape waters recently and the number of white sharks has increased correspondingly; hundreds of sharks now show up annually. Viewing these majestic creatures in their natural element from the safety of the boat is the thrill of a lifetime.

Atlantic White Shark Conservancy researchers observe a great white shark from the Dragonfly charter boat

I have worked extensively on the Dragonfly with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the Massachusetts Division of Marine fisheries during their groundbreaking white shark population studies. The combination of my experience on the water and Norman’s expertise in the air give us excellent chances of multiple shark sightings on our trip.

Shark Tours Florida has it all figured out. I took my 10 year old son on an amazing experience we will both cherish for life and none of it would be possible with out Ryan, Kaitlin and crew. The entire crew worked hard to ensure we had a great trip and were safe too. I am looking forward to going again.

Just got home from an amazing time with Shark Tours Florida! Ryan and the captain were so patient and nice to everyone! They both made me and my husband feel super safe! I was quite nervous being my first time in such deep water and SCARED TO DEATH of sharks but I’m so glad I literally took the plunge and did it. We will def be back to do it again! See ya in a few weeks guys.

I highly suggest taking a trip with Ryan and his crew. Ryan's very knowledgeable and super enthusiastic about everything that is the ocean. Will definitely book another tour with him! Oh, and his photography skills are amazing too!

Had a great time with Ryan Walton and his crew. Very professional and take your safety serious. I highly recommend these guys if your interested in seeing these epic creatures up close! This was my 3rd trip out with Ryan and it’s been action packed each time and never felt in danger at all.

Farallons

Favorite winter water playground of Great Whites

The Farallones

The Farallon Islands within the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary are home to some of the world’s largest great white sharks. These islands (Southeast Farallon and Maintop Island) off the coast of San Francisco are the winter water playground of adult great white sharks measuring 15 to 20 feet long. (4.5 meters to 6.1 meters). The sharks come to the Farallones to dine on the local population of Northern Elephant Seals.

Day trips depart by 9 am  from Marina Bay Yacht Harbor (Richmond Marina) in San Francisco’s East Bay region and are generally 12 hours in duration. The price includes lunch and dinner on the boat. On the way to the Farallones, participants learn about the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, the Farallon Islands, white sharks and other local wildlife, from a trained naturalist.

The 65 ft Derek M Baylis, a custom-built offshore research and education vessel, can comfortably accommodate 12 cage divers and 4 topside observers.

Sharks Spotted : Adult Great White Sharks

Viewing Season : The official season is from September 15th until November 30th.  We operate on select dates during the middle of this peak time.

Featured 2024 Day Trip Dates

September 28, 29 | October  27  | November  10, 16, 17, 23, 24

Cost : $925 for cage divers / $675 for topside observers.

Private charters for up to 16 cage divers are available. Call for pricing.

Participant Requirements : No dive experience required. Participants should be in reasonably good health and comfortable in the water. Minimum age requirement may apply for cage divers (typically age 16).

Trip Notes : Trips are conducted according to the terms of an educational permit (GFNMS-2015-011-A5)  issued to Incredible Adventures by the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.  A floating shark cage and surface-supplied air is used. Shark divers are supplied with a wetsuit, hood, boots and gloves. All participants are strongly advised to purchase dive insurance and must sign a release of liability. There is no shark guarantee. If you do not see sharks, there is no refund. We’ll take you to the best spots and do everything we can to insure sightings, but we cannot control nature.

San Francisco’s Farallon Islands

The Farallon Islands are part of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.

Sanctuary regulations enacted in 2009 prohibit the attraction of white sharks without a permit from NOAA. In 2009, Incredible Adventures was granted a permit to actively attract white sharks by using a mammal-shaped decoy. Incredible Adventures does not chum for white sharks or interfere in a white shark’s natural behavior in any way.

Viewing these giant creatures is a sight unlike any other. The Farallon Islands are a brutal place, where the seas can be rough and the weather miserable. That’s part of what makes viewing great white sharks off the coast of San Francisco an incredible adventure!

Peak shark sighting season at the Farallones is from late September through mid-November. Call 800-644-7382 to book your great white shark expedition today.

More Details

Farallons great white shark adventures are offered under the guidelines of a permit by the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. (GFNMS-2015-011-A5) The permit authorizes Incredible Adventures to use decoys to actively attract white sharks near its boat and shark cage. The decoys must be constructed of a soft material and shaped like a marine mammal native to the area.

If you plan to spend the day topside, remember to dress warmly. We recommend dressing yourself in layers, because it can be warm and sunny one minute and cold and foggy the next. We have some cameras and binoculars on the boat, but you may wish to bring your own.

This is THE best dive in Oahu!

“This is by far THE best shark diving experience on the island. Small locally owned operation, small groups for a more intimate dive experience. I've went out with these guys a few times now and The crew is one of the best, and extremely knowledgeable. Tons of sharks, and not once did I ever feel unsafe in the water. If you're looking to swim with sharks, do it and do it with Hawaiian adventure, not a commercial over crowded operation. Shop local!”

Absolutely Epic!

“I've done free dives with one of the more famous companies, but Nick and his crew are amazing and make it a once in a lifetime incredible experience! Groups are limited to 6, so sharks will be able to come closer with amazing photo opportunities. Safety divers redirect the sharks for you to get a thrill of a lifetime. Hands down best crew and best experience!”

Our Florida shark tours shark viewing trips are offered at multiple times during the day with four-hour adventures the standard to get people on the water and into shark action.

During our shark viewing adventures, our guests will get to spend a half-day on the water all while watching and interacting with the sharks of Florida in their native territory.

Once we get to the shark grounds from our docks in South Florida, our team of professional shark wranglers use bait to attract shark species so that our guests can get an up close and personal view of the different sharks we encounter.

The sharks show up and start interacting with our baits within minutes of arriving at our locations and our guests are then treated to a fun show of shark action all from the comfort and seclusion of our boat deck.

During the experience we encourage our guests to record the adventure with photo and film to capture the memorable experience.

Family Friendly Florida Shark Tours

During a shark viewing trip, our guests are required to stay on the boat, with no diving or getting in the water allowed.

During the adventure, as an added bonus, our guests are invited to wrangle a shark by casting a hookless line behind our boat and pulling on the rope as a shark species hits and pulls on the line. It’s an unforgettable way to feel the power of these majestic creatures first-hand without ever having to get into the water at all.

On these trips we regularly see Lemon Sharks, Bull Sharks, Blakctips, Hammerheads and Tiger Sharks. We also regularly encounter other types of marine wildlife, including dolphins, rays and other fish species. This is an ideal adventure for guests looking to get on the water for a few hours off the coast of Florida for an awesome experience on the ocean off of Florida.

What sharks swim along the Treasure Coast?

Database: Shark bites along the Treasure Coast

Whether you're at the Fort Pierce Jetty or any Stuart beach, it is not uncommon to see a shark. With more than 500 species swimming in the ocean, these are just a few found off the Treasure Coast:

  • Blacktip sharks
  • Bull sharks
  • Lemon sharks
  • Nurse sharks
  • Sandbar sharks
  • Spinner sharks
  • Tiger sharks

There have been local sightings of more well-known species, such as hammerheads and great white sharks.

In January 2022, Sable, an  800-pound great white shark , was swimming about 20 miles off of Vero Beach.

She was  tagged by OCEARCH , a nonprofit that tracks and researches aquatic creatures for the purposes of conservation. Locations and names of the tagged animals are on its website and updated whenever a tracker "pings," which happens when an animal breaks the surface.

Cavendish breaks Merckx’s record for most career Tour de France stage wins with his 35th victory

Associated Press

Britain's sprinter Mark Cavendish crosses the finish line to win a record 35th Tour de France stage win to break the record of Belgian legend Eddy Merckx in the fifth stage of the Tour de France cycling race over 177.4 kilometers (110.2 miles) with start in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and finish in Saint-Vulbas, France, Wednesday, July 3, 2024. (AP Photo/Daniel Cole)

SAINT-VULBAS – Mark Cavendish wrote a new chapter of Tour de France history in what is expected to be his last appearance at cycling's biggest race.

The veteran Isle of Man sprinter broke Eddy Merckx’s long-standing record for most career Tour de France stage wins with his 35th victory on Wednesday.

Recommended Videos

The 39-year-old Cavendish sprinted for the win in the fifth stage of the Tour, pulling away some 100 meters from the line despite being bunched in. He crossed the line ahead of Jasper Philipsen and then celebrated with teammates.

Norwegian rider Alexander Kristoff, who had crashed earlier, finished third. They were given the same time of 4 hours, 8 minutes, 46 seconds.

Sixteen years after his first Tour stage win, Cavendish spoke of his constant hunger for victory.

“I always needed to win one more, more more,” said Cavendish, who was joined by his children on the podium. “It takes a lot to get there every year. I’ve got incredible people around me.”

Two-time champion Tadej Pogacar narrowly avoided a crash and finished nestled in the main pack in 35th place. While Pogacar retained the race leader's yellow jersey, the day belonged to Cavendish.

He equaled Merckx’s mark of 34 wins during the 2021 Tour and went close to No. 35 in the seventh stage last year when he was narrowly beaten by Philipsen. He crashed a day later and broke his right collarbone.

Merckx, the Belgian considered the most dominant rider in cycling history, won his 34 individual stages at the Tour from 1969-75.

Cavendish's decision to give it one more shot paid off.

“I just wanted to get the run-in to do it. I’m a little bit in disbelief. Astana put a big gamble on this year to make sure we’re good at the Tour de France," Cavendish said. "We’ve done it."

With his 2023 race ending early, Cavendish decided to put off retirement by a year and came back to try again.

Finally, Cavendish made cycling history, after winning his first Tour stage back in 2008.

Other riders were happy for Cavendish, with several stopping to speak with or hug him after the 177.4-kilometer (110-mile) leg from Saint-Jean-De-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas

Merckx amassed his wins in an era during which his domination was such that he earned the nickname “The Cannibal.” Unlike Merckx, one of four riders to win the Tour five times, Cavendish has never won the overall title, or come close.

But Cavendish’s longevity among his fellow Tour sprinters has no equal.

He won the Tour de France best sprinter’s green jersey twice. He also won stages at all three Grand Tours — the others are the Giro d’Italia and Spanish Vuelta — and became a world champion in 2011.

Cavendish joined Astana after his contract with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl expired and he was overlooked for the 2022 Tour.

Cavendish had faced a difficult start to this Tour. During the first stage, he appeared to struggle with stomach and heat issues.

“I know how it works, my trainer and everyone around me knows how it is," Cavendish said. "I’ve done 15 Tours de France. I don’t like to have bad days, I don’t like to suffer but I know it’s just in the head and to push through it.”

Meanwhile, Pogacar has another flat stage to get through safely Thursday, having reclaimed the leader’s jersey Tuesday with a brilliant attack near the top of the race’s first big mountain pass.

On Wednesday, he was simply relieved to avoid crashing.

“We were in the bunch and then suddenly something came up in the middle from nowhere. The guys in front of me braked and we touched wheels a little bit, but luckily I escaped," he said. "I reacted on instinct and was very lucky.”

The 25-year-old Slovenian leads overall by 45 seconds from Tour debutant Remco Evenepoel, the Vuelta and world champion in 2022. Pogacar is 50 seconds ahead of two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard — the Danish rider who was badly injured in a high-speed crash at the Tour of Basque Country in early April.

Pogacar is aiming for the rare Giro-Tour double, and for his third Tour title after wins in 2020 and 2021. The last rider to win the Giro and the Tour the same year was the late Marco Pantani in 1998.

Wednesday's stage saw Clement Russo and Matteo Vercher forming a breakaway after 35 kilometers (22 miles).

Given that French riders won the first two stages through Romain Bardet and Kevin Vauquelin , this may have motivated them. With rain falling, Russo and Vercher were caught with 36 kilometers (22 miles) left.

Stage 6 on Thursday is again suited for sprinters, going through vineyards to Dijon on a mainly flat trek of around 100 miles. The first individual time trial is on Friday.
