RBC Avion Visa Infinite vs TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite

  • Rating methodology

RBC Avion Visa Infinite full review

The RBC Avion Visa Infinite card is one of six personal credit cards from the Royal Bank of Canada that offers Avion points — a loyalty program specific to RBC. You can spend Avion points on a range of products like flights, electronics, investments and more. The company’s Visa Infinite card is among the more expensive of RBC’s personal Avion credit cards.

Benefits of the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card

  • 35,000 Avion Points upon approval and 20,000 bonus points when you spend $5,000 in your first 6 months. Apply by Apr. 30, 2024.
  • No seat restrictions or blackouts when you book travel using Avion points.
  • Free Doordash deliveries for 12 months. (Must activate before Jan. 1, 2024).
  • Discounts and additional Avion points available when you rent with Hertz, or link the card to a Petro-Canada card.

Drawbacks of the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card

  • Minimum income requirement of $60,000 ($100,000 for household).
  • No airport lounge access.
  • RBC has low Trustpilot and BBB ratings.

Who should get the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card?

You may want to get the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card if you:

  • Want to collect Avion points on all purchases.
  • Have a Be Well or Petro-Canada card and want to take advantage of extra discounts.
  • Use Hertz or Doordash and want to take advantage of the card’s free delivery offer and rental car discounts.

Is RBC Avion Visa Infinite worth it?

If you want a card that offers consistent Avion points across all purchases the RBC Avion Visa Infinite may be right for you. However, the high income requirement, lack of airport lounge access and an average earn rate that’s lower than other RBC credit cards may reduce this card’s value for some people.

rbc avion travel contact

Our Nerd’s verdict: A mid-tier travel card with flexible rewards

The RBC Avion Visa Infinite touts itself as a premium travel card, but I’m not sure I agree. Premium cards in this category offer complimentary airport lounge access, annual travel credits and NEXUS fee rebates, to name a few — all of which the RBC Avion Visa Infinite is missing. That said, I think the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card is a fine choice for Canadians on the hunt for a well-rounded rewards card. You can earn up to 1.25 Avion points per $1 spent, and the card offers fuel discounts at Petro-Canada, Hertz rental discounts and insurance coverage that includes trip cancellation, trip interruption and emergency medical coverage. Overall, the card will appeal to those who want to collect rewards with diverse redemption options and travellers seeking the peace of mind provided by a card with travel insurance.  — Shannon Terrell

RBC customer ratings

  • Below average in customer satisfaction: RBC ranks 8 out of 13 in J.D. Power’s 2023 Canada Credit Card Satisfaction Study.
  • Low Trustpilot rating: 1.2 out of 5 possible stars based on over 1,000 customer reviews, as of this writing.
  • Low Better Business Bureau rating: 1.2 out of 5 possible stars based on over 130 customer reviews, as of this writing. RBC is not accredited by the BBB itself.

RBC Avion Visa Infinite eligibility

Who qualifies for the rbc avion visa infinite card.

To qualify for the RBC Avion Visa Infinite card, you must earn a gross income of at least $60,000 ($100,000 per household) or have a minimum of $250,000 investable assets.

In general, you must be at least the age of majority and a resident of Canada to qualify, unless otherwise stated by the card issuer.

Approximate credit score needed for approval

Canadian credit card issuers rarely disclose required credit scores, which makes it hard to know your chances of approval when comparing credit cards. What we do know is that higher scores have better chances of approval — that’s true no matter what type of credit you’re applying for. Want to learn more? Convert Points to Asia Miles with a 10% Bonus

Until March 31, 2024, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles is offering a 10% bonus whenever you convert credit card points into Asia Miles under the latest transfer bonus promotion.

Asia Miles offered a similar bonus around this time last year, so it’s great to see this promotion making a return again as we head into 2024.

Register for the Promotion

Then, you’ll get a 10% bonus if you convert points from credit card issuers outside Hong Kong to Asia Miles.

It’s worth noting that the bonus won’t appear on your credit card points portal, since it’s happening on the Asia Miles end. However, as long as you’ve registered for the offer and convert points during the promotion, you should see the bonus arrive in your account.

The promotion page specifies that the bonus miles will be credited to your Asia Miles account within 8–10 weeks after the end of the promotion on March 31, 2024. If this is the case, then it means that you won’t be able to make a booking with your bonus miles immediately after initiating the transfer; however, the regular points transfer should arrive much sooner than that.

Keep in mind that you need to have some sort of activity in your Asia Miles account every 18 months to prevent your miles from expiring. As long as you earn or redeem at least one Asia Mile every 18 months, your expiration date will be reset.

If you’ve had your eye on a redemption, now is as good of a time as ever to convert credit card points into Asia Miles.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Conversion Ratios

The major points programs and optimal transfer ratios that allow you to earn Asia Miles are as follows:

  • American Express Canada Membership Rewards : 1,000 MR points = 750 Asia Miles
  • American Express US Membership Rewards : 1,000 US MR points = 1,000 Asia Miles
  • Capital One Miles : 1,000 Capital One miles = 1,000 Asia Miles
  • Citi ThankYou Rewards : 1,000 ThankYou points = 1,000 Asia Miles
  • RBC Avion : 1,000 RBC Avion points = 1,000 Asia Miles (must convert a minimum of 10,000 RBC Avion points)
  • HSBC Rewards : 25,000 HSBC Rewards points = 8,000 Asia Miles

With the 10% bonus in place, these ratios are therefore boosted to the following levels until March 31, 2024:

  • Amex MR: 1,000 MR points = 825 Asia Miles
  • Amex US MR: 1,000 US MR points = 1,100 Asia Miles
  • Capital One Miles: 1,000 miles = 1,100 Asia Miles
  • Citi ThankYou Rewards: 1,000 points = 1,100 Asia Miles
  • RBC Avion: 1,000 RBC Avion points = 1,100 Asia Miles
  • HSBC Rewards: 25,000 HSBC Rewards points = 8,800 Asia Miles

Note that the promotion is explicitly limited to converting credit card points to Asia Miles, and excludes the miles you might earn as part of a welcome bonus or on regular purchases on the Cathay World Elite® Mastercard – powered by Neo .

Incidentally, this also makes it strictly optimal to use the RBC® Avion Visa Infinite† over the Cathay World Elite® Mastercard – powered by Neo, since you’re effectively earning 1.1 Asia Miles per dollar spent by doing so with this promotion in place, versus the Neo card’s baseline earning rate of 1 Asia Mile per dollar spent.

Typically, points transfers from US partners to Asia Miles are instantaneous; meanwhile, transferring from the Canadian currencies has always resulted in a delay of 3–5 business days.

You’ll also want to make sure that the names and addresses on both the sending and receiving accounts match with each other, as there have been several data points on RBC Avion transfers, in particular, being delayed due to mismatches in the systems.

Should You Transfer Points to Asia Miles?

As a reminder, Asia Miles underwent a global devaluation in October 2023, especially for cabins other than economy. Booking flights with Asia Miles in premium cabins costs much more than it used to.

On the other hand, award availability for Cathay Pacific flights with Asia Miles is better than it is with other Oneworld programs. Therefore, if you’d like to give Cathay Pacific business class or First Class a whirl, your best option may be to book directly through Asia Miles, as long as you can find award availability.

In Canada, Cathay Pacific flies to Toronto and Vancouver, but doesn’t offer First Class on either of the routes.

A one-way flight in business class from Hong Kong to either Canadian city costs as follows:

  • Vancouver: 84,000 Asia Miles
  • Toronto: 110,000 Asia Miles

With the transfer bonus taken into consideration, the effective cost of both flights is reduced by 10%, and the exact amount depends on which currency you converted points from and the corresponding transfer ratio.

When it comes to partner airlines, Asia Miles sometimes offers relatively competitive pricing when compared to other Oneworld programs.

For example, you can fly from Helsinki to Chicago in Finnair business class for 63,000 Asia Miles plus $105 (CAD) in taxes and fees. The same flight booked with American Airlines AAdvantage costs just 57,500 miles (which are more difficult to come by), and with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan costs 70,000 miles.

Another potential good use of Asia Miles with partner airlines is for flights with British Airways, since Asia Miles tends to levy lower carrier-imposed surcharges than those of other Oneworld loyalty programs.

For example, a one-way flight in business class from Chicago to London costs 63,000 Asia Miles plus $329 (CAD) in taxes and fees . The same flight booked with AAdvantage costs 57,500 miles plus $731 (USD) in taxes and fees, with British Airways Executive Club costs 90,000 Avios plus $350 (USD) in taxes and fees, and with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan costs 65,000 Alaska miles plus $995 (USD) in taxes and fees.

Therefore, if you have your eyes on a direct flight to London, Helsinki, or other Oneworld hubs, it’s worth checking out pricing with Asia Miles, especially if you aren’t familiar with the program following the devaluation.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles is offering a blanket 10% bonus on all incoming credit card points transfers from issuers outside Hong Kong until March 31, 2024. Be sure to register for the promotion before transferring your points into the program.

With three financial partners in Canada (and even more in the US) allowing you to earn Asia Miles, this promotion could be a good opportunity to top up your balance for a planned Asia Miles redemption in the future.

The T&C’sas defined in clause 4 “Finance partners outside of Hong Kong (“Eligible Finance Partners”) refer to partners featuring under “Other Partner Credit Cards” at the Asia Miles website >” doesn’t include the Royal Bank, it does list American Express.

Has anyone had success receiving the bonus when transferring from a Royal Bank Avion account?.

How long do you normally wait? It’s been 2 weeks now and I still haven’t seen asiamiles yet.

I transferred my points from HSBC Reward+ to Asiamiles but didn’t get the bonus points. I’ve read the email from Cathay after registered and realized it’s for HK based credit cards only. Too sad!!

Ricky – love your content so I am quite interested in transferring some Avion Points to Asia Miles for a Business class trip to Singapore in the Spring. The problem is availability – I have no status with Cathay so when I look for the flights, there doesn’t seem to be any reward seat availability. Any pointers on how to overcome this? Also if I transfer the points and wait the 3-5 days for the points to land into my account, the reward seats may dissappear so it seems like a risky play. I need to make a decision before I trigger my 2CPP option with Avion Rewards for the same flight.

I planned to transfer my RBC Avion Rewards to Asia Miles and have registered with them for the 13 Sep – 12 Nov 2022 10-15% Transfer Bonus promotion. However, I read in this blog that there are 2 RBC Avion Visa card holders did not receive the bonus.

Please verify if RBC Avion Visa is a partner in this promotion. Thanks.

How exactly does this work? I registered for the promotion, did the transfer using the RBC rewards site for my Avion points and after waiting for a week to get the points in my Asia Miles account, all I got was the points on a 1:1 basis. No bonus whatsoever. Are they supposed to come in at the 15% bonus? Or do they converted afterwards?

I found the same offer with the same bonus structure for the the same dates but comes with one of the following for free:

The Upper House, Salisterra Afternoon Tea for Two

The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Lobby Lunch Set for Two

Can anyone confirm?

https://cathaypacific.formstack.com/forms/more_miles_more_rewards_hkg_en

Does the name of the RBC account and the Asia Miles account need to match? Can i send from my wifes RBC card to my asia miles account?

rbc avion travel contact

I believe it does need to match. If you and your wife share a last name, it might be worth a try, but be prepared for some difficulties in dealing with RBC and Cathay if it doesn’t work.

This promotion is only applied to Hong Kong based credit cards. RBC Avion is not on their partner list for this promotion. Please verify.

It’s for bank & loyalty partner conversions all over the world, not just Hong Kong.

Can you put a booking on hold while waiting for the points to transfer in?

I don’t believe Asia Miles has this capability.

If you do BOS to HKG to TPE, can you also get 105,000. The date i’m interested in shows about 122,600 Asia Miles.

It would be closer to the First Class price, because HKG-TPE is much shorter of a flight in comparison. It’s the weighted average of the two prices based on the flight distances, basically.

You mention the names & addresses matching for RBC Avion transfers (and I personally have been held up for doing this, my Avion to another person’s Asia Miles), but is this the same for AMEX MR transfers? Can I feed my MR to multiple Asia Miles accounts?

I would assume that at least the last name and address needs to match.

Hi Ricky, any advice on finding award availibility FOR 2 PEOPLE in first on CX? I read it was really difficult. What would be your strategy, then? Thank you!

It’s near-impossible via partners but there would be a higher chance going through Asia Miles, so I’d definitely look into redeeming Asia Miles if you’re looking for two First Class seats.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

rbc avion travel contact

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

rbc avion travel contact

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

rbc avion travel contact

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

rbc avion travel contact

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

rbc avion travel contact

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

rbc avion travel contact

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

rbc avion travel contact

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
