Purpose World Tour
- Edit source
The tour started on March 9, 2016 in Seattle and finished on July 2, 2017 in London, UK. After that, the last remaining 14 shows of the tour were cancelled due to depression, anxiety and exhaustion.
Visiting the five continents with over 150 shows, the Purpose World Tour became Justin's longest tour and one of the highest-grossing concerts of the 2010s decade.

The tour was announced on November 11, 2015 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show . That same day, 58 dates in the United States and Canada were revealed on the singer's website. Due to an overwhelming demand, additional shows were added in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, and New York, totaling 64 shows. Some of the shows that Bieber was supposed to perform at was cancelled. After a couple of days, Bieber announced the reason behind him cancelling the rest of the tour on a heartfelt Instagram post.
My life is a movie and everyone’s watching. So let’s get to the good part and past all the nonsense. This life’s not easy. I know what it feels like to fall. It isn’t until we admit defeat that we are able to find strength. I know what it takes to admit vulnerabilities. Are you willing to be challenged, uncomfortable? What are you willing to withstand to create your destiny? I have to ask myself where does my character lie in times of trouble, my weakness, when is my soul at rest? I encountered so many obstacles along this journey. I made mistakes, stumbled but I have faith and determination to rise. My idea of advice is safety, love, respect and purpose.

The cancellation of its last 14 tour dates, including several U.S. stadiums, was described at the time as “unforeseen circumstances” but was in fact a clear mental health crisis. “He was going through something that he wasn’t expressing to anyone,” said Allison Kaye . “We didn’t really understand what we were canceling it for — we just kind of had to.”
When he canceled the last leg of the Purpose tour, the biggest changes he made to get better were going to therapy regularly for the first time and reconnecting with God. “I just changed my priorities so that I didn’t [become] another statistic of young musicians that ended up, like, not making it,” he said. Justin Bieber’s world tour has grossed nearly $200 million
‘Purpose’ tour launched in March 2016
Just over one year since starting in March 2016, Justin Bieber’s ‘Purpose’ world tour has reportedly grossed close to $200 million.
Following from Bieber’s 2015 album of the same name , the ‘Purpose’ tour started March 9 2016 in Seattle, and visits Ecuador’s Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa on its next stop (April 8).
Box office counts, reported by Billboard , claim more than 2.2 million tickets have been sold on 122 world tour stops. Bieber has played 10 shows so far in 2017, bringing in $40 million in total.
In a recent stopover in Sydney, Australia, Bieber pleaded with his fans to “stop acting like animals” when they chased him from the Chargrill Charlie’s restaurant to his car. Photos show that Bieber needed a police escort to form a barrier while he dined, while other footage shows him telling the crowd: “The more you guys scream and act like animals, the less we can have a conversation.”
This comes after Bieber said he would no longer take photos with fans as it made him feel like ‘a zoo animal ‘, while just last week he told a fan that they ‘made him feel sick’ for attempting to take a selfie .
Bieber will headline a Barclaycard BST Hyde Park show on Sunday July 2, with support coming from Martin Garrix, Swedish pop sensation Tove Lo and Anne-Marie.

Justin Bieber Explains Why He Canceled Remainder of ‘Purpose’ Tour
“I’m grateful for the tours but most of all I am grateful I get to go through this life WITH YOU!” singer says on Instagram
Justin Bieber has broken his silence about canceling the remainder of his “Purpose” world tour last month, explaining that the time he will be taking is so his career, heart and soul can be “sustainable.”
“Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be SUSTAINABLE,” Bieber wrote in an Instagram post, published Wednesday. “I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind heart and soul to be sustainable. So that I can be the man I want to be, the husband I eventually want to be and the father I want to be.”
In his letter, he also said that past relationships as well as insecurities have dictated his behavior recently.
“I have let my insecurities get the best of me at times,” Bieber wrote. “I let my broken relationships dictate the way I acted toward people and the way I treated them! i let bitterness, jealously and fear run my life.!!!! I am extremely blessed to have people in the past few years help me build my character back up reminding me of who I am and who I want to be!!!”
Bieber also addressed fans, writing, “Im grateful for the tours but most of all I am grateful i get to go through this life WITH YOU.!”
On July 24, Bieber canceled the remaining dates on his show, at the time giving no reasons beyond “unforeseen circumstances.” Bieber had 15 more shows scheduled in the U.S., Canada, Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia through October. He has played more than 150 shows since the stadium tour began in March 2016.
One day later, his manager, Scooter Braun explained , “a man’s soul and well-being I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honor that.”

5 Best Candidates For Deadpool's New Variant Based On The Legs In The New Trailer
10 best horror movies of 2024, emily blunt's rumored new movie would confirm she's the queen of modern sci-fi.
- Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour" concert film will remain her highest-grossing movie.
- Deadpool & Wolverine could have become Swift's highest-grossing film if she appeared.
- Swift does not have any announced acting roles but is set to make her directorial debut.
Taylor Swift has been taking the world by storm since she kicked off the Eras Tour in March 2023, and her record-breaking concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour won't be dethroned as her highest-grossing (live-action) movie anytime soon following news regarding an upcoming Marvel Studios release. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which documents the singer-songwriter's stadium world tour of the same name, debuted in theaters on October 13, 2023. After a few months, the film reeled in $267 million, surpassing Michael Jackson's This Is It to become the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.
Deadpool and Wolverine is Marvel Studios' only Marvel Cinematic Universe film in 2024.
On March 14, 2024, Disney+ released an extended version of Swift's film, called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , which included more performances from the concert (like "Long Live" and "Death by a Thousand Cuts"). The streaming debut gave Swift another record — Taylor Swift: The Ears Tour (Taylor's Version) garnered 4.6 million views and 16.2 million viewing hours in its first three days on Disney+, becoming the streamer's most-watched music film. Given all these broken records, Swift was set to continue her dominance if the rumors about her appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine were true.
The Eras Tour Will Continue To Be The Highest-Grossing Movie Taylor Swift Has Appeared In
Taylor swift reportedly won't appear in deadpool & wolverine.
Taylor Swift has been rumored to make a cameo in Marvel Studios' 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe release , Deadpool and Wolverine . However, according to Entertainment Weekly , the pop star will not appear in the superhero flick. Despite Marvel releasing a poster for the upcoming movie featuring Ryan Reynolds' and Hugh Jackman's characters holding hands and wearing friendship bracelets (an Eras Tour trend), Swift didn't find time out of her busy schedule to film Deadpool and Wolverine . Consequently, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will remain Swift's highest-grossing live-action movie. The Lorax is technically at the top, but she only had a voice role.
Deadpool & Wolverine Would Have Dethroned The Eras Tour As Swift's Biggest Movie Appearance
The 2024 mcu film will easily surpass $267 million at the box office.
If the reports had been true and Taylor Swift was in Deadpool and Wolverine , the 2024 film would undoubtedly have become her highest-grossing live-action project. Some predict that the upcoming release, which premieres on July 26, could be the first MCU movie in three years to earn $1 billion . Deadpool grossed $782 million, and Deadpool 2 raked in $785 million, so, it stands to reason that the third one would earn somewhere in that range. However, those two films were released in 2016 and 2018, respectively, and the box office has drastically changed in recent years.
The singer-songwriter does not currently have any acting roles in the works (that the public knows of), but Swift is set to make her feature film directorial debut for Searchlight Pictures in the near future.
Deadpool and Wolverine serves as Deadpool and Wolverine's introductions to the MCU , increasing the hype surrounding the movie. Plus, the fact that it is the only MCU release in 2024 might draw more people to the theaters. The movie's R rating may dissuade some from seeing it, but that did not stop Deadpool and Deadpool 2 from garnering over $700 million at the box office. Nevertheless, only time will tell if Deadpool and Wolverine surpasses the $1 billion mark. One thing is for certain, though, it would have dethroned Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour as Swift's highest-grossing live-action film.
The new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer teases a Lady Deadpool variant with a pair of legs, so here are the 5 best candidates for who they belong to.
When Will Taylor Swift Return To The Big Screen?
Taylor swift doesn't have any (announced) future movie appearances.
Although some may be disappointed that Taylor Swift isn't in Deadpool and Wolverine , that doesn't mean she won't star in any other upcoming movies. The singer-songwriter does not currently have any acting roles in the works (that the public knows of), but Swift is set to make her feature film directorial debut for Searchlight Pictures in the near future. She has reportedly already written the script, and perhaps the pop star has given herself a role in the project. Unfortunately, not much else is known about Swift's movie, and given her schedule, it might be a while before it premieres.

Justin Bieber is set for his world tour — well, almost.
The musician made the announcement on Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show .
However, when asked about when his tour will begin, he admitted freely that he had no idea.
“This is the only thing I had to remember, and I don’t remember!” he told DeGeneres, pointing fans to his website for further details. “What am I doing? I’m here to promote an album and a tour, and I’m not doing that!”
Entitled Purpose, his arena jaunt begins March 9 at the Seattle Center. It will be his first tour in three years.

‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ Is Absolutely Crushing The Box Office
On Assignment For HuffPost
This article includes material from HuffPost’s weekly culture and entertainment newsletter, The Culture Catchall. Click here to subscribe .
Hey, everyone! It’s Ty Cole with another edition of The Culture Catchall. Summertime is here, so the newsletter will hit your inboxes on Tuesdays for a bit. We should all be outside, touching some grass and shaking some ... margaritas by the pool on Friday evenings anyway!
Let’s get into the story of the week.
For all the naysayers who thought Will Smith wouldn’t and couldn’t do numbers after that incident, how are you feeling now? “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is absolutely crushing the box office, proving that Smith and Martin Lawrence — who returned as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in the fourth installment of the successful, high-octane franchise — are still a dynamic duo.
The film has shattered Hollywood’s expectations, reminding everyone that these actors are still box-office heavyweights. The movie earned $56 million from 3,885 theaters in its domestic debut and opened with $48.6 million internationally. That put its global total at $104.6 million, surpassing its production budget.
After an interactive press tour and hyping up fans by sharing behind-the-scenes moments, you would think the world would be singing Smith’s praises. Unfortunately, that wasn’t always the case here.
On social media, The Hollywood Reporter shared an article under the title “Box Office Upset: Will Smith’s ‘Bad Boys 4’ Delivers Huge Victory for Actor With $56M U.S. Debut, $104.6M Globally.” The post sparked negative reactions online, with users questioning what was so “upsetting” about the film’s impressive performance.
So let me get this straight. For weeks it’s been doom and gloom for theaters and now because it’s Will Smith you’re upset the film did well? The racism is blatantly showing. https://t.co/M23Zm2360A — Sharronda Williams (@payorwait) June 9, 2024

Can’t just let the man live without bringing up that slap huh - had to add in that “Huge Victory for Actor” line instead of just saying its performing well. — Kari (@SneakerPhetish) June 9, 2024
Naturally, public figures had to weigh in, too. Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on his YouTube show . While conceding that he’s still a fan of Will Smith, the sports commentator went on a tangent about not wanting to see the “Hitch” actor in movies. Instead, he wants Smith to sit down for an interview and explain why he struck Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.
“I’m just saying a lot of folks ain’t get over what happened,” he said in his rant. “A lot of folks find it hard to just go to the movies to watch you. I’m one of those people, and I never missed a Will Smith movie.”
Well, Stephen, you and everyone else who can’t seem to move past the slap will just have to wait on that.
Quite frankly, it’s 2024 — and I’m ready for this discussion to be over. It’s interesting that we can’t just celebrate the success of the “Bad Boys” franchise without diminishing its accolades by bringing up old news. Will Smith already apologized to Rock for the slap incident. His new film even makes a nod to the slap in a pitch-perfect moment during the fourth act. (Notably, the movie also nods at Lawrence’s infamous 1996 incident in which he walked into traffic and yelled at cars.)
The only person who should have any sort of feelings or response to Smith is Rock himself. If you are not him, it’s OK to stay quiet. It’s time to MOVE ON! I don’t care nor want to hear it anymore.

Justin bieber's 'purpose' tour coming june 19 to target center.
The Biebs is coming back to town. Justin Bieber has set a June 19 date at Target Center as part of a 58-city 2016 tour announced this morning ahead of Friday's release of his new album, "Purpose." Tickets to the Minneapolis show go on sale next Friday, Nov. 20, for $50.50-$126 via AXS.com, 1-888-9-AXS-TIX or the arena's box office.
Bieber's wide array of TMZ-reported bad-boy antics and sometimes cheesy persona in recent years has made him the subject of punchlines and career-dead-end speculation, but the 21-year-old Canadian pop star seems to be rebounding into adulthood with "Purpose." The single "What Do You Mean?" became his first No. 1 U.S. single over the summer, and collaborations with electronic dance producer Skrillex and British pop star Ed Sheeran on the record have also earned it a buzz.
The Target Center date comes about three-quarters of the way through his North American tour, which kicks off March 9 in Seattle and includes a Fargo show the night before Minneapolis (June 18 at the Fargodome). He played Target Center on his last tour in 2012, an instantly sold-out show that included tons of dancing and ample lip-syncing.
Bieber is making the media rounds this week and announced his tour on Ellen DeGeneres' set. Here's the clip.

BIEBER FEVER: Urban Outfitters has announced the launch of its Justin Bieber “Purpose” tour collection on Aug. 5.
Inspired by the singer’s most recent world tour, the men’s wear collection consists of five pieces, including T-shirts, a baseball cap and a bomber jacket all featuring the tour logo. Prices range between 25 pounds, or $35 at current exchange, for a cap to 69 pounds, or $89, for the jacket.
The line will be available to purchase in all Urban Outfitters retail stores and online as of Aug. 8. There will also be accompanying events to celebrate the launch, with the retailer planning to host parties that will be open to the public and include live DJ sets and exclusive giveaways of pieces signed by Bieber.
The events will take place in the Urban Outfitters’ Marble Arch store in London, in its Melrose store in Los Angeles and in Herald Square in New York.
The high street retailer said it is drawing on the success that musicians have been having in fashion recently. Merchandise from Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo” tour and Beyoncé’s “Formation” tour instantly sold out, for instance.

Earlier this year, VFiles, the Millennial-minded social-media platform and retailer, hosted a two-day pop-up in New York’s SoHo selling merchandise from Beiber’s “Purpose” tour, although the collection differed from that of Urban Outfitters. The pop-up was popular, with long lines of customers dressed in other merchandise from West’s and Beyoncé’s tours, snaking down Mercer Street.
Bieber has partnered with a number of designers during his “Purpose” tour, including Fear of God’s Jerry Lorenzo and Calvin Klein . The pop star, who starred in Calvin Klein ’s spring ad campaign, teamed with the brand for the European and North American legs of his world tour, showcasing footage of the campaign prior to — and during — the concert, and wearing apparel from the brand in a segment of his performance.

SUNDAY AM FINAL: Sony ‘s Bad Boys: Ride or Die had a great Saturday of $19.5M , -10% against previews/first day of $21.6M , for what’s shaping up to be a $56M opening. This is the highest-grossing R-rated opening since Oppenheimer last July, and Will Smith ‘s sixth-highest U.S./Canada opening overall of his career and his 18th No. 1 opening as a leading man.
That Friday to Saturday hold is very close to what Bad Boys for Life did, which was -8%. PLFs and Imax stateside delivered 38% of the gross. Imax only repped 9.3% of the fourth pic’s North America weekend, or $5.2M at 401 auditoriums. The fourthquel played through the night, with 32% made of the gross earned after 8 PM showtimes, per EntTelligence. Admissions for the Smith and Lawrence reteam were 3.9M, repping 53% of the domestic foot traffic, followed by The Garfield Movie with 9%, IF with 8%, and New Line ‘s bomb The Watchers with 7%, or $7M on the $30M negative pick-up, ouch. Global on the Ishana Shyamalan-directed movie is $11.7M .
Top five cities for Bad Boys: Ride or Die were New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago. AMC Southlake Pavilion in Atlanta is the top-grossing cinema in the nation with $155K so far.
Anyone obsessed that the Oscar slap would derail Smith’s career — um, no. Studies showed that Smith’s box office value among moviegoers would not tarnish post the controversial incident.
Another thing to crow about: Batgirl directors Adil and Bilall’s success this weekend comes in the face of conquering Watchers, a rival Warner Bros wide release.
Smith did a surprise appearance at the Baldwin Hills Cineplex over the weekend. Take a look:

Smith and Sony rolled out the global PR tour for Bad Boys: Ride or Die like D-day, covering three continents and ten cities, including Dubai, Riyadh, Madrid, Berlin, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Brussels, Amsterdam, New York, and Miami, with red carpet premieres in a bulk of ’em. Among the highlights there was a stunted arrival in Los Angeles on a double decker bus, with live performance by Smith, a turnout of 50k fans in Mexico City alone, and the first Hollywood premiere in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A TikTok challenge was created inviting users to grab their “ride or die” and post fun videos to show how they’re a Bad Boy. Khaby Lame, who is the most-followed person on TikTok (162.5M Followers), had a cameo in the fourthquel and shot custom social content with Smith and Lawrence.

Across U.S. and 16 international markets, Sony engaged influencers with a huge social reach of more than 1.4 billion to support the release of the film, with the stars collaborating with many of them.
Updated diversity stats for Bad Boys 4 are 44% Black, 26% Latino and Hispanic, 18% Caucasian, and 8% Asian and 4% other. Sony held word-of-mouth screenings with 50+ African American partners in seven cities, including Miami, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, and DC. Cast appearances on major broadcast, podcasts, digital, and radio programs outlets included Despierta America (Univision), Hoy Dia (Telemundo), EBRO in the Mornings, 7pm in Brooklyn, The Enrique Santos Show and Complex’s GOAT Talk . There was a Miami Takeover that included a star-studded red-carpet premiere, U.S. Hispanic media blitz across Univision and Telemundo networks, and a Miami Marlins appearance that included a first pitch from Lawrence.

The fourthquel, also produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, showed 50% under 35 with 44% Black, 26% Hispanic and Latino, 18% Caucasian and 12% Asian American/other buying tickets. Those buying their tickets day of were 72% which tells you how much walk-up business this had, and which couldn’t be observed in some tracking (though some had a sense would occur).
RelishMix noticed an upbeat word of mouth out there with fans forgiving Will Smith post Oscar slap saying, “I’m glad Will Smith is back. His action movies never disappoint,” and, “Martin Lawrence is so funny and makes me laugh so hard like from deep, deep down inside funny.” Chatter relishes the balance between the action and comedic elements spotlighted in the trailer, with some feeling this is an improvement on the previous 2020 entry Bad Boys for Life , saying, “Last one was mid, but this one already looks and feels better like a Bad Boys movie”. Reports PostTrak, 35% of those who bought tickets came because of either Smith or Lawrence while 38% came because of the cast alone. Forty-two percent told exit polls that they came out last night because the fourthquel looked fun and entertaining.
Other deets about Bad Boys: Ride or Die, overall 53% Male / 47% Female with 44% of the audience between 18-34 years old with the largest demo tied between 25-34 and 35-44 at 26% apiece. Bad Boys : Ride or Die played in the East, South and South Central with the AMC Southlake Pavilion in Atlanta the highest grossing cinema in the nation with $81K.
Sony’s second place brag, The Garfield Movie , is eyeing a $10.3M third weekend at 3,959, -26%, for a running total of $68.9M by Sunday. The reboot will soon pass the domestic take of the 2004 20th Century Fox movie which ended its run at $75.3M.
New Line’s The Watchers is still not being watched with an estimated $2.9M Friday, and $6.7M-$7.1M weekend. The Ishana Shyamalan feature directorial debut gets a C- CinemaScore and 57% Rotten Tomatoes audience score. RelishMix notices negative chatter: “Negative convo on The Watchers is limited to those turned off by M. Night Shyamalan’s involvement as a producer after being dissatisfied with many of his past cinematic ventures.” This despite the fact that the social media universe metrics at 150.7M are running 9% above first installment horror norms across TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube and Instagram combined.
Watchers diagnostics saw a low PostTrak of 55% positive, 36% definite recommend. Male leaning at 53% on this PG-13 movie with 27% of the audience between 18-34 years old and 32% of the audience 35+ years old with the largest demographic being 25-34 years old at 28%. The movie pulled in 45% Caucasian, 26% Latino and Hispanic, 18% Black, 6% Asian and 5% other. The genre movie most predominant area was South Central, Mountain and West with the AMC Burbank the pic’s top grossing venue at $14K to date.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Exhibitors and distribution execs, even non-Sony ones, are breathing a sigh of relief as it looks like the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence fourthquel Bad Boys: Ride or Die is heading to $50M this weekend at 3,885 theaters. This is after a $20M-$21M Friday, which includes Thursday night previews of $5.9M . Last night’s evening shows were solid, and they held up against the first night of NBA Finals. Very good news after this summer has seen such notable event movies like The Fall Guy and Furiosa underperforming.
Bad Boys 4 has all the octane from PLFs and Imax screens.
Sony can crow further about its hold on the No. 2 spot this weekend with The Garfield Movie , which is seeing a third frame of $9M-$10M , -32%, for a running total of $68.6M on the high end by Sunday at 3,959 theaters.

Third place belongs to Paramount’s family movie IF, with a fourth weekend of $7.1M at 3,582 theaters after $2M Friday, -32%, for a running total of $92.6M by Sunday. That will be 1% ahead of Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy at the same point in time; that 2021 pic ended its U.S./Canada run at $121.6M.
Crashing in fourth place is New Line’s Ishana Shyamalan-directed thriller, The Watchers , with $3M today, including $1M previews, for what’s looking like a $6M-$7M start at 3,351 theaters. M. Night Shyamalan, who produced his daughter’s movies, also self-finances them and then sells them to the studio. In the wake of working with Universal, Warner Bros. attracted him over to its lot. I’m told that the studio shelled out $30M before P&A for The Watchers alone. This movie is not a Lionsgate genre thrifty price-profit special.
FRIDAY AM: Sony’s R-rated Bad Boys: Ride or Die did $5.875 million in domestic box office Thursday in previews that began at 3 p.m., a total that is actually only 8% off from the previews of the franchise’s previous long-awaited threequel, 2020’s Bad Boys for Life, which did $6.36M.
That’s a great start for Bad Boys: Ride or Die as it enters what has been an embattled marketplace due to lack of movie inventory from the strikes, not to mention a lack of mass-appealing movies — that is outside of Disney/20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes , which just crossed $144.3M. Audience reaction last night to the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence reteam was 5 stars and 88% positive on Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak, while Rotten Tomatoes audience score stands at 97%.
Demos, which change throughout the weekend, were 36% Black, 29% Hispanic and Latino, 20% Caucasian, 10% Asian, and 4% other. Men over 25 were dominant at 40% followed by women over 25 at 38%.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die saw a $23.6M first day, which led to an ultimate best-in-franchise three-day total of $62.5M and a four-day of $73M, but keep in mind that the threequel was working off the heat of a 17-year gap between sequels, not to mention it was MLK weekend. If all goes well, Bad Boys: Ride or Die winds up north of $40M.

New Line’s PG-13-rated The Watchers , the feature directorial debut of Ishana Shyamalan, is showing previews of $1M at 3,000 locations. That amount of Thursday night cash is on par with Universal’s Abigail. However, reviews are sour here at 29% Rotten, and the PostTrak exits were really bad at 1 1/2 stars, and 52% positive. Yikes. This despite a rather even turnout among age demos with 36% men over 25, 24% women under 25, 20% women over 25, and 20% men under 25. The projection for this movie heading into the weekend was $8M-$10M. Abigail opened to $10.2M off an 85% Rotten Tomatoes audience score.
The rest of Thursday shook out as follows:
1.) The Garfield Movie (Sony) 4,108 theaters Thu $1.5M (-7% from Wed), Wk $21M , Total $58.6M /Wk 2
2.) IF (Par) 3,783 theaters, Thu $1.2M (-7%), Wk $15.9M , Total $85.5M /Wk 3
3.) Furiosa (WB) 3,864 theaters, Thu $730K (-38%), Wk $15.5M , Total $54.4M /Wk 2

Justin Bieber ’s Sunday night show at Los Angeles’ Staples Center was as much a homecoming for the 22-year-old as a statement of purpose. True, the Canada-born, LA-based singer hadn’t been away for all that long — Bieber last took the stage of the 18,000-seat arena in Nov. 2015 for a fan-only record release party — but in the time between, he had come far, scoring a rarefied second No. 1 single , the irresistible “Sorry,” and winning the respect of the industry as it acknowledged he was no longer just a teen sensation.

Indeed, the crowd at Staples proved that new fanbase is growing in numbers and diversity — shrieking tweens dominated, of course, but there were plenty of child-free ladies on a girls’ night out to be found and even the occasional dad didn’t look the least bit miserable. And it’s no wonder: Bieber is a showman through and through. His aim is to entertain, and he does so with a mix of nonstop visuals, dance moves and killer hooks that are impossible to deny. And if that doesn’t impress the arms-folded parent, maybe a trampoline stage descending from the sky will.
Read on for five standout moments from the March 20 stop of Bieber’s Purpose Tour.
Trending on Billboard
Bieber in a Glass Cage of Emotion
The dramatic opening to the Purpose show involves a transparent cage which ascends from beneath the stage. Inside: Bieber making a solemn promise with the song “Mark My Words.” It’s one of several hydraulic feats throughout the show, another of which — Bieber performing inside an LED structure — is reminiscent of technology U2 put on display during its most recent Songs of Innocence.
Justin Bieber and Marilyn Manson Take Selfie in Los Angeles
A Fashionable Nod to Grunge
Bieber’s tour wardrobe is meant to give a “street grunge with a very vintage skater feel,” tour stylist Karla Welch recently told Billboard . It’s a look that works as Bieber’s ever-expanding T-shirt collection includes nods to Marilyn Manson (with the words: “Bigger Than Satan” and “Bieber” on the back), Metallica (worn during “Baby,” no less) and 2Pac , who first started his rap career mere miles from the Staples Center. Bonus: Bieber rocks a robe like nobody’s business, no doubt emulating what countless fans have done at home perhaps with a hairbrush as a would be microphone. Dare we say, it’s sexy?
Pep Talks with Purpose
It’s not often that a pop star takes time on stage to openly address such weighty issues as insecurity and authenticity, but Bieber does several times throughout the show. “I’ve been so broken … and so hurt in my life,” Bieber says during one such moment. During another, Bieber speaks of trying to “be real” but realizing that he inevitably will “slip up.” Ultimately, he adds, it’s “truly about finding our purpose.”
Justin Bieber Asks a Fan Put His Hair in a Ponytail on Stage: Watch
Did Somebody Say Trampoline ?
Proof that Justin Bieber is living out his wildest dreams: a boxing ring-like stage that descends from the top of the arena where the “floor” is essentially a trampoline. Bieber executed more that a couple good flips at the end of “Company,” which was a relief, since he’d hit his head on one of the stage fasteners earlier in the song.
Cameos Galore!
Bieber brought out Big Sean for “No Pressure” and Chance the Rapper for “Confident” at Staples Center — cameos that proved his cool cred, and, even in a town crawling with celebrities, made for an extra special show.
Bonus: Rain in L.A.
Much has been written about the penultimate finale to each Purpose show, during which it literally rains indoors. As crazy as it sounds, during “Sorry,” the onstage baptism felt like an appropriate bookend to what’s essentially a religious experience for countless devotees — and on Palm Sunday, no less. Preach.
