Portland Spirit Dinner Cruise

We were visiting family and went on a dinner cruise on a Sunday evening. It was a leisurely cruise down the Williamette River. We all enjoyed the scenery; seeing Portland and vicinity from this perspective was pretty awesome. The dinner was good. It was a very enjoyable evening, even with a 2 year old!

Hi Gloria, Thank you for reviewing our Portland Spirit dinner cruise! We are glad to hear you enjoyed the cruise, scenery and cuisine. Fun for the whole family and a great escape while visiting Portland. We hope to have your family on board again! Thanks, The Portland Spirit

Everything was so good! Food, Music, Drinks and Enviroment! Until Jay, the bar manager disrespected me in front of my friends and the rest of people were there. I open a tab on the second floor bar to avoid swapping my card several times. At some point during the night we moved to the upper level. They do have another bar up there but my tap was opened downstairs. So I went to the bar for second time to grab a drink for my wife and myself, same as the first time. Jay came up saying only one drink per person and I said "but the first time I had two, one for me and one for my wife. He raised his voice and said "only one drink I said". So I got my wife's drink, gave it to her and came back for mine. Jay again raised his voice saying, "I told you only one drink per person, you have to show me the second person" I decided to close the tap downstairs to open another one upstairs and I did not give him a tip since he was extremely rude. Then he followed me upstairs and told the bartender upstair to not serve me. Then he came out of the bar directly to me and in front of my friends and croud raising his voice again. " I am cutting you off for the night, what you did downstairs was really disrespectfull and i am cutting you off" I mean, the guy was inches from my face. I am an Active Duty, Veteran with PTSD. With this said that situation could've been worse if it wasn't for my lovely wife. Then we decide to talk to the main manager who was really polite and noticed I wasn't drunk or acting disrespectfull or anything. Well, he pulled the bar manager aside and not sure what happend but I was able to keep drinking and had an amazing night with friends and wife. Bottom line, I love the cruise just not going again knowing the bar manager could be there again!

I'm a local Portlander and native Oregonian. The Heart of the Gorge was a smaller motor craft that probably accommodates 30 guests. Board in downtown Portland, cruise to the Columbia River, head east up the Columbia destination Cascade Locks for lunch. I was seeing sites from a water perspective I'd never seen before. That alone was worth the trip. However, at Bonneville Dam, we stayed on board the vessel passing through the locks! I'd seen other craft do this, but I had never been on board while this was happening! Definitely an experience. The captain and the tour guide were friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. All around a wonderful day and well worth the cost. (I scored and found a discount on Groupon.)

Hi Lisa, We appreciate your review of our "Heart of the Gorge" cruise aboard the Explorer Jet Boat. This adventure trip is a great way to experience all the river history and adventure on the Willamette and Columbia River. The travels through the Bonneville Locks is a must. Glad to hear you had a wonderful time! Thanks, The Portland Spirit

My family was visiting in Portland over 4th of July to celebrate my Grandma's 80-something birthday. I was looking for an event where we could all watch the fireworks without the stress of the crowds and found the Portland Spirit cruise. Although I was a little skeptical because I've been on several tourist cruises in the past that I wished I hadn't been on (ahem - NYC Hudson cruises), I'm glad I did this one, as everyone (there were twelve of us) really enjoyed ourselves. First of all, they had reserved sitting on the boat, so we were all seated together at the same table with a great window view (tip - if it's hot outside when they board the boat, find some shade until the line gets shorter instead of standing in the sun. Your space on the boat is reserved, so you don't have to worry about getting on early to find a seat). The staff was very friendly, and did a great job at servicing us with food, beverages, and entertainment (yes, a few of them sang for their tables!) throughout the trip. The dinner was decent, which in our table included the salmon and hangar steak. There were a few of us spoiled by NYC meals, which in general leads to pretentious reviews of any food outside of NYC, but for the rest of the group, they were very pleased with the meal. Considering the number of people being served at one time, I give high credit. Tip - the ticket price includes the dinner entrée, a desert (cheesecake), and water. Appetizers, other beverages, and other desert selections are extra, but reasonably priced. For the craft beer purveyors out there, they had a decent selection of Widmere ales (hefe, IPA, etc.). The cruise itself was enjoyable. Being that it was the 4th of July, there was a lot of activity on the river, including other boats, swimmers/campers on the shore, and house parties along the river. It was fun to see the houses along the river. Tip - on the boat ride, try to sit in the direction the boat is going; otherwise you'll end up with the sun in your eyes. After dinner, several of us went to the top deck for the rest of the trip and to get ready to see the fireworks. We found that they were announcing highlights of different attractions we were passing on the top deck (not sure if the announcements had been going on the entire trip). There was also another bar at the top of the boat. Tip: if you plan to watch the fireworks, get to the deck earlier to secure yourself a chair to sit on. There was about a 30 minute wait between the time the boat docked and the fireworks started. My final tip is that if you aren't into the fireworks, leave when the boat docks to beat the traffic getting out. Some of us came from towns with much more impressive fireworks, and those that left as soon as the boat docked just had to manage getting through the crowds waiting to see the fireworks, and then easily got out of the area. The rest of us that stayed on the boat ended up in the throngs of everyone else in Portland to see the fireworks, and it took us several hours to get out of Portland. Overall, I definitely recommend the Portland Spirit as an experience to see Portland and the surrounding areas from the river; and definitely for the 4th of July if you want a good seat with dinner to see the fireworks.

Hello ~ Thank you for your review of our 4th of July cruise! We are glad your enjoyed the cruise and appreciate your tips and feedback for our future guests. We hope to welcome you on board again in the future! Thanks, The Portland Spirit

Our group of 14 Kiwi tourists were celebrating a birthday so booked the lunch time cruise online. We paid deposit and were told the balance could be paid at the ticket booth before embarking. Two hours before we were advised they needed payment in full before confirming booking - a little miscomunication which they apologised for. The cruise lunch was an appetiser (at an additional cost), entree choice of chicken, cod, or beef and dessert (also additional cost). Tea coffee and water was included. Feedback from our guests was the chicken was great, beef was very chewy (not particuarly enjoyable) but the cod was good. However one guest came across an insect (earwig) in their cod meal. The cruise apologised and took it way but did not offer a refund or discount. The cruise itself was enjoyable, commentary on Portland interesting, and the entertainment (staff singing) good. Enjoyable overall on such a beautiful day.

Hi Russ, Thank you for taking the time to review our lunch cruise. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us to improve upon our products and services. I've forwarded your concerns regarding the Cod. We are glad you enjoyed the overall experience! We look forward to having you on board again ~ Thanks, The Portland Spirit

This is a nice way to get a feeling for the city of Portland. A variety of tour options are available. We chose a two hour afternoon cruise that took us upstream as far as Milwaukee and downstream to the beginning of the industrial port area. Narration covered historical information as well as covering local landmarks, try turns and wildlife. Well worth the time to learn more about this city.

Hello ~ Thank you for your review! We are glad you enjoyed the sightseeing cruise. Best, The Portland Spirit
