During the encore Beth, Peter was handing out roses to people in the audience (see picture 7). Picture 6 gives you a look at the diamond shaped lighting rig used on this tour!

Several other new things were supposed to be introduced for this tour: one of these was a laser show. Supposedly the band was to enter the stage through a curtain of laser light, but did not work properly. It was only used once, at the first show of the tour, and all what the fans got to see, was a distant blue haze! The laser equipment was returned to the manufacturers, to be repaired, but did not appear again! Years later the firm, that had built the equipment, sued KISS for non-payment.

Another new idea was KISS World... a traveling amusement park, with KISS rides, KISS museums, and 3-D movies! The logistics of this prevented the thing to happen, but the idea was brought out in life during the 90's... though not as originally conceived!!

When ‘The Return of Kiss’ Tour Hit a Snag

In February 1978, Kiss ended a grueling five-year touring cycle that helped them become one of the biggest bands in the world. Yet, when the foursome returned to the road a year and a half later for a jaunt dubbed the Return of Kiss, they found their position in the rock hierarchy was anything but secure.

The tour was to follow one of Kiss more audacious stunts, the release of four solo albums after the conclusion of their 1978 dates in support of Alive II . They'd then issued a disco hit, " I Was Made for Lovin’ You ," in advance of the May street date for Dynasty , with shows set for the entire second half of 1979.

These concerts, which began on June 15, 1979, at Lakeland, Fla., would be the biggest and boldest yet from a production standpoint, even while reflecting those solo efforts through the individual band members’ costumes. Each contained colors from their respective albums. So, Paul Stanley ’s costume was purple, Gene Simmons ’ was red, Ace Frehley ’s was blue and Peter Criss ’ was green.

The Dynasty tour also saw the introduction of several new effects in the Kiss live concert arsenal. It was during this tour that fans first got to experience Simmons flying in midair . Frehley's guitar, meanwhile, was tricked out with a new rocket-shooting stunt as well.

But something had changed since the last time Kiss toured the States. Audiences had begun shifting away from the bombastic stage presentations favored by the group. By this time, both punk and disco had gained solid footholds in the country. All of a sudden, the Kiss circus seemed somewhat out of step. Markets that had once been surefire sellouts were canceling gigs or downgrading to smaller venues.

Watch Kiss Perform on the Dynasty Tour

"It wasn't a good omen when our first show was canceled," Paul Stanley dryly notes in his book Face the Music . "The bottom got pulled right out from under us." Audiences were beginning to dwindle, and so the scale and scope of the tour was lost on many.

It was the only Kiss tour to feature tunes from all four original members' solo albums. But the band also included their sturdiest tunes to date, closing out most nights by playing "Shout It Out Loud," "Black Diamond," "Detroit Rock City," "Beth" and "Rock and Roll All Nite."

In Los Angeles, an additional night at the Forum was scaled down to the 10,000 seat Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County. A rambunctious fan base that had once painted its faces in anticipation of the spectacle to come seemed in large part to have been replaced with families. It seemed that Kiss' out-sized marketing – not to mention their new dance-influenced hit – brought in new fans, even while costing them some of the die-hard fans.

By the end of the Dynasty concert series, change was in the air. The market had turned, as had people's musical tastes. And Kiss, for the longest time, seemed lost. They would eventually resort to taking off the makeup , but not before trying a weird concept album .

In a larger sense, nothing was ever quite the same again. The final show of this tour, held Dec. 16 at the Toledo Sports Arena in Toledo, would be the last gig featuring all four original members until their 1996 reunion .

Skid Row's Sebastian Bach sells Lincroft home, says Jersey 'haunted' for him now

Sebastian Bach, the frontman for the classic late '80s hair band, has finally sold his longtime home in Lincroft that had been condemned after Hurricane Irene.

Sebastian Bach, the Skid Row frontman who made New Jersey his home for 21 years, has finally sold the Lincroft home that was condemned after massive flooding from Hurricane Irene  in 2011, and tells NJ Advance Media what New Jersey has meant to him -- and why he had to move on.

Jersey natives Rachel Bolan and Dave "The Snake" Sabo formed Skid Row in Toms River in 1986, and recruited Bach (real name: Sebastian Bierk), a Canadian, in 1987. The band found major success with its first two albums, "Skid Row" and "Slave to the Grind," and opened for Bon Jovi and Guns 'N Roses, but Bach was fired by the band in 1996 in a clash of personalities.

"To me, New Jersey is Skid Row," Bach, who now lives in Los Angeles, tells NJ Advance Media at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, where he was promoting his latest TV project, "Breaking Band," in which he and other musicians  mentor younger bands. (The show premieres on AXS on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.)

"That's why I moved there. That's the reason I bought a house there. New Jersey means so much to me about rock and roll. The Stone Pony , you know, Asbury Park. The beach. The boardwalk. The Count Basie Theatre, downtown Red Bank. Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash . Vintage Vinyl . I lived in those places for 20 years. For me, walking around Jersey is, like, haunted.

"I played Giants Stadium when I was 20 years old for 75,000 people. New Jersey is Skid Row. We came from there. We are New Jersey. So without Skid Row, I can't be in New Jersey."

The contemporary house he bought in 1988, which was featured on "MTV Cribs" and filled with Skid Row and other rock memorabilia, is located on three acres of land adjacent to a large swath of undeveloped forestland. "I knew every rock. I knew every tree. I knew every pile of dirt. I knew every inch of those woods," Bach recalls. After long stints on the road, that's where, he says, "I became a human being again."

The house had never flooded until Hurricane Irene hit in 2011. According to Bach's Facebook post in the aftermath, the stormwaters "snapped the bridge in half next to my house and sent the bridge straight into my garage, knocking the house half off its foundation." Bach lost precious memorabilia, including Skid Row master tapes and KISS gargoyles from the 1979 tour, and the home was condemned.

Somewhere under this water is a KISS pinball machine & 2 gargoyles from the Dynasty tour. If you see them floating past your house, they're mine. Or at least they were :( Posted by Sebastian Bach on  Sunday, August 28, 2011

"How I wish there was a reason to do a box set or something before Hurricane Irene hit," he wrote. "Nobody cared. Now it's too late. Don't know what you got till it's gone, indeed."

He put the house on the market in 2012, and at once point was asking as much as $669,000 for it, but it sold for $272,500 -- about $85,000 less than what he paid nearly 20 years ago, according to Zillow .

Sebastian Bach 'in shock' as Irene takes house

He's not exactly headed to Skid Row, but this sucks anyway.

Rocker Sebastian Bach wrote on Facebook Sunday that he was "numb, in shock and devastated to report" that his Red Bank, N.J., home was condemned in the wake of Hurricane Irene after a nearby reservoir overflowed and sent a bridge careening into his garage, knocking the house off its foundation and flooding his basement.

The good news, Bach says, is that his ex-wife and kids are safe. The bad news, then?

MORE: Hurricane Irene Hits Hollywood as East Coast Shuts Down

Countless pieces of Skid Row and KISS memorabilia are under water.

"Gone are irreplacable [sic] items, such as my KISS Gargoyles from the 1979 tour," Bach lamented. "KISS pinball machine. Skid Row master tapes, video & audio, concerts, master tapes from Oh Say Can You Scream etc. Boxes & boxes of one of a kind Skid Row memorabilia, from the first tour to our last, all stuff I collected on the road that no one else had. I had a library in the basement with every single magazine that had Skid Row on the cover ... All of this is lost now."

Bach says he's relieved that his sons and their friends moved all of his father's artwork and his comics collection from the basement to the third floor, which remained dry. But, he adds, they're not allowed to return to the house to retrieve any belongings because the house "could conceivably collapse at any second."

"As soon as the power is off we will pump out the basement & salvage what we can," he continued. "Everything will be put into storage & then it looks like we will level the house :("

Now that he's divorced, however, Bach added, he figures this was a sign that it's time for him to move to Los Angeles to join his girlfriend and start over.

"I will always love New Jersey but now there is literally nothing left for me here except memories of a past life," he concluded. "Hello, Los Angeles. Hello, New Life. Here I Am. It's time for a new start. Like I have a choice."

SINGER SEBASTIAN BACH’S HOME DESTROYED

seb-bach-house

A “numb, in shock & devastated” Bach reports that the house, once featured on MTV’s ‘Cribs,’ has been ‘destroyed, condemned and deemed uninhabitable,’ and that cherished mementos  were lost in the onrush of reservoir water.

“Somewhere under this river is a Kiss pinball machine and 2 gargoyles from the Dynasty tour,” he writes beneath the photo at left. “If you see them floating past your house, they’re mine. Or at least they were. :(”

The house, at 99 Swimming River Road, is just a couple of hundred yards downstream from the reservoir spillway. A turbid rush of wash flowed over the spillway during Tropical Storm Irene Sunday morning, washing over the Swimming River Road bridge and prompting rescues of several residents downstream.

sebastian-bach

I am numb, in shock, & devastated to report that my home of 21 years, my house featured on MTV Cribs, has been destroyed, condemned, & deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding courtesy of Hurricane Irene. In the 2 decades I have lived in this home, there has never been a single drop of water in the basement or anywhere else in the structure. Now Irene has overflowed the reservoir adjacent… to my house. The surging waters have snapped the bridge in half next to my house & sent the bridge straight into my garage, knocking the house off of its foundation. The basement that has been dry for over 2 decades is now overflowing with water & I am not even allowed to start pumping the water out due to fears of electrocution. Original Skid Row & KISS fans, I have bad news for you . Gone are irreplacable items, such as my KISS Gargoyles from the 1979 tour. KISS pinball machine. Skid Row master tapes, video & audio, concerts, master tapes from Oh Say Can You Scream etc. Boxes & boxes of one of a kind Skid Row memorabilia, from the first tour to our last, all stuff I collected on the road that no one else had. I had a library in the basement with every single magazine that had Skid Row on the cover. This library took up a big part of the basement. All of this is lost now. We will salvage what we can of course. But how I wish there was a reason to do a box set or something before Hurricane Irene hit. Nobody cared. Now it’s too late. Don’t know what you got till it’s gone, indeed. The good news is that all my fathers artwork , including the 16 foot “Slave To The Grind” mural, is all ok. My sons & friends moved all my dads art to the 2nd level of the structure before Irene destroyed our home. My Silver Age Comic Collection is all on the 3rd level, with the David Bierk Archives, which is a completely dry level. But we are not allowed into the house yet to retrieve everything because the foundation has crumbled & the house could conceivably collapse at any second. We are working with the police & fire department to get the electricity turned off so no one gets electrocuted entering the premises. As soon as the power is off we will pump out the basement & salvage what we can. Everything will be put into storage & then it looks like we will level the house 🙁 This has really taught me that the best things in life are indeed ‘free’ . What makes me happy is that my children & ex wife are safe. My dads art is unharmed. No one got hurt. My scrapbooks of memories of my life are dry & safe. The only things that are making me smile today is cranking Black Veil Brides “Set the World on Fire” CD over & over again. Texting Danny from Asking Alexandria who may become my new roommate in LA . Getting texts from my girl Minnie in LA making sure I’m ok & trying to cheer me up. My neighbours in New Jersey clamouring around my house, calling me, offering help in any way they can. These things mean more to me than mere posessions. I have been holding on to my house since December, when my divorce papers were filed. I just could not let go of the only home I had ever known. Well, God has other plans for me it seems. He has made His decision for me. My home has been taken away by an “Act Of God”. I just think He is giving me a much needed push, is all. New Jersey, thank you all so much for 25 years of rock n’ roll. It’s all over now. I will always love New Jersey but now there is literally nothing left for me here except memories of a past life. Hello, Los Angeles. Hello, New Life. Here I Am. It’s time for a new start. Like I have a choice.

Rocker Sebastian Bach's NJ House Condemned After Irene Hit

By eric alt • published august 30, 2011 • updated on august 30, 2011 at 8:15 am.

Sebastian Bach, frontman for the metal band Skid Row, says he is "numb, in shock, and devastated" following news that his Red Bank, New Jersey home has been condemned due to damage suffered during Hurricane Irene.

The storm flooded a nearby reservoir, and reportedly sent portions of a bridge into Bach's garage, which knocked the house of its foundation. His basement was also flooded.

Although he and his family were not home at the time, Bach took to Facebook to report that countless pieces of Skid Row (as well as KISS) memorabilia was destroyed.

"Gone are irreplaceable items, such as my KISS Gargoyles from the 1979 tour," wrote Bach. "KISS pinball machine. Skid Row master tapes, video & audio, concerts, master tapes from Oh Say Can You Scream etc. Boxes & boxes of one of a kind Skid Row memorabilia, from the first tour to our last, all stuff I collected on the road that no one else had. I had a library in the basement with every single magazine that had Skid Row on the cover. All of this is lost now."

He added that the house "could conceivably collapse at any second."

Recently divorced, Bach took the news as a sign that he needs to move and start fresh on the west coast.

"I will always love New Jersey but now there is literally nothing left for me here except memories of a past life," he posted. "Hello, Los Angeles. Hello, New Life. Here I Am. It's time for a new start. Like I have a choice."
