Grand Design Reflection 150 Series 295RL Road Test

Luxury that’s half-ton towable.

By Norm Rosen.

R V  Lifestyle Magazine has had the pleasure of road testing several of the Grand Design RV fifth wheel models over the past few years , and we have always been very impressed with the design, the fit and finish, and the overall quality of these trailers. When we had the opportunity to check out the new half-ton towable Reflection 150 series, we jumped at the chance, and headed off to Outdoor Travel in Hamilton, Ontario , to take a close look at what may very well be the most innovative approach to serious fifth wheel touring in recent years.

The Reflection 150 series from Grand Design is an all-new concept that is engineered to give you the best possible towing experience with your half-ton pickup – the 295RL model that we selected for this road test measures 32’9”, and features two large slide-out sections… it tips the scales at just 8,496 pounds dry weight with a hitch weight of just 1,391 pounds. Compare this to a similar Grand Design 303RLS model that measures 32’5” long, and features three slide-out sections, and you will find a dry weight saving of about 750 pounds and a hitch weight saving of 300 pounds – that’s the difference between towing with a half-ton pickup and a three-quarter ton tow vehicle.

The Grand Design engineers have really done their homework to create a rather large fifth wheel that is half-ton towable. Whether you have a standard box pickup or a short box, you will be able to tow and safely maneuver this trailer thanks to the use of the Turning Point Swivel Pin Box – a Trail-Air design from Lippert Components. This pin box has two pivot points – the regular pin location, and a rear pivot approximately 22 inches behind the pin… you simply lock the front pin pivot and unlock the rear pivot, and the geometry of the pin box changes, letting the front of the trailer rotate around the rear pivot so you can clear the rear of the cab with no problem at all. When set up by your RV dealer to precisely match your trailer to your truck, this “Turning Point” pin box lets you tow without the need for the much more complicated (and more expensive) “slider” fifth wheel hitch that had, until recently, been the solution for towing with a short box truck.

Construction

As with all Grand Design RV models, the Reflection 150 Series features outstanding fit and finish – PDI and quality control at the factory is the class of the industry, and every detail is double-checked at the dealership.

Weight distribution is very well engineered in the Grand Design 150 Series – front to back and side to side, the unit is very well balanced – for example, the slide-outs in this unit are approximately the same size and carry similar weight – our unit had the free-standing dinette and the theatre seating in the slide-out on the passenger side, and the galley with pantry, refrigerator, and the entertainment centre on the driver’s side.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

The Reflection, like all Grand Design fifth wheels, utilizes a fully bead welded aluminum frame, with fully laminated construction and block foam insulation the solid wall structure is covered by a 3-year structural warranty. There is full pass-through storage in the underfloor compartments, with motion sensor lighting.

The overall construction of the Reflection 150 series trailer follows the traditional Grand Design concept, which is to build their trailers to a “higher standard,” using fully laminated walls with R-9 radiant foil and fiberglass insulation, a double insulated floor with R-30 insulation, a double insulated roof with R-40 insulation, and a double insulated front cap with R-40 insulation. Heated holding tanks, a heated utility centre in one of the exterior compartments, and heated and enclosed water system drains make this an all-season trailer.

If you plan to travel in the dead of winter, you can specify an “Arctic 4-Seasons Protection Package” which has been tested in a climate-controlled chamber to a range from -6°F to +101°F. We tested the Reflection 295RL on a cold winter day when it was -10° C, and the furnace warmed up the trailer interior in about ten minutes to the point where we were comfortable, and after about 20 minutes the interior was 20° C. The trailer is pre-wired for solar panels.

On the Road

The Reflection 150 Series rides on nitrogen-filled E-rated Westlake Radial Tires with alloy wheels. These come with a full five-year warranty and a 12 month “no questions asked” warranty. The Dexter axles, brakes, and suspension are ideally suited for a fifth wheel of this size and weight, and the result is one of the best towing trailers we have tested.

The rear hitch on the 295RL is a convenience hitch that is rated 300 lbs. Perfect for bike and accessory racks.

At the Campsite

Your family and guests will enjoy easy access to the trailer thanks to the all-aluminum side entrance step and the Lend-A-Hand grab handle.

Take a minute to extend your awning and flip the switch to illuminate the LED lighting at the base of the awning support rails, and your campsite will have a very attractive evening ambiance.

For the utmost convenience when hooking-up and maintaining your holding tanks, the Reflection 295RL features an exterior utility compartment equipped with a Nautilus water utility panel that puts control of all the water and holding tank systems at your fingertips – even the holding tank valves.

Comfort and Convenience

The 35,000 BTU forced air furnace is quiet and capable, bringing the interior temperature of the trailer up to a pleasant 20°C in a matter of minutes. The heat vents in the living room area are ducted under the galley island, eliminating the unsightly vents in the floor that tend to attract dust and dirt. The heat vents in the bedroom are also at the base of the walls.

The Reflection 295RL is a bright trailer, with lots of large windows, and overhead Fan-Tastic Vent fans to help eliminate the moisture in the galley.

The Reflection 295RL features premium Congoleum vinyl flooring throughout the main section of the trailer, with carpeting in the master bedroom area.

In the Galley

Like all Grand Design models, the Reflection 295RL has a galley that will bring a smile to the face of any serious campground gourmet. There is a very well-appointed island with a large “farm style” rectangular stainless-steel sink, and lots of counter space and cupboards, and a huge pantry in the galley slide-out section. The appliances are also impressive – Grand Design uses the Furrion “blue lighting” oven and range.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

The Reflection features hand rubbed maple cabinet doors and solid hardwood drawer fronts. The overhead cabinets in the galley are lower than most – this is a major asset for shorter RV chefs.

One of the really nice features of many Grand Design fifth wheels is the “service hutch” adjacent to the galley. This can be used for a bar or an RV office.

In the Lounge

The Grand Design fifth wheel features RV furniture designed specifically for comfort, opulence, and durability. The Thomas Payne theatre seating in the dinette slide is a very nice touch, with reclining back and leg rest, and a range of massage, heat and lighting accents. There is a tri-fold sofa bed on the rear wall of the trailer, ideally placed to provide additional seating for your guests to enjoy the entertainment centre.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

The entertainment centre features a 40” LCD TCL Roku TV, Furrion DVD player and stereo. There is a very attractive 5,000 BTU electric fireplace below the TV. This fireplace sends a very nice warm breeze through the area.

In the Bedroom

The Reflection 150 Series trailers have moved the typical front closet to the bulkhead between the bedroom and the bathroom. This not only reduces the trailer’s pin weight, it shifts a substantial amount of load weight farther back in the trailer, contributing to a better front-rear weight distribution for better half-ton towing and better roadability.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

In addition to the spacious hanging closet, the queen-size bed has flip-up under bed storage. The Grand Design fifth wheels feature residential mattresses – your sheets will fit these beds!

There is a backer in the wall and outlets for a TV to be installed in the bedroom – our test unit did not have the optional TV.

In the Bathroom

There has been considerable thought applied to the placement and design of the bathroom in this unit. For example, the engineers have used a pocket door instead of the typical swing door that forces you to back down the stairs to open the bathroom door.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

The Reflection 295RL has a very spacious and well-appointed bathroom with a large ABS tub surround with a Nautilus shower curtain, a vanity with sink and medicine cabinet, and a porcelain foot-flush toilet.

The Bottom Line

The Grand Design Reflection 150 Series brings the highly acclaimed luxury and interior design of the standard Grand Design models to the RV enthusiast looking for a half-ton towable fifth wheel.

The combination of engineering excellence, top-level quality control, and impressive interior design make these fifth wheel trailers the class of the industry in 2018.

Grand Design RV Review: 4.5 Out Of 5.0 Stars

Grand design overview, grand design rv cost, grand design rv models, grand design rv build quality, grand design rv warranty, grand design rv ratings and reviews, grand design rv review: should you buy one, faq: grand design rvs, grand design rv review.

Grand Design is one of the country’s most popular recreational vehicle brands. And, it would seem, for good reason. Owners of the vehicles speak highly of the company’s build quality and after-sales service in many Grand Design RV reviews online.

Our team took an in-depth look at the manufacturer to get a better idea of what the company offers, how much it charges, and what people think about its products. Overall, it’s one of the best RV brands on the market.

Through research, our team found that Grand Design offers a wide selection of consistently high-quality towables and looks after its customers. That was enough to earn Grand Design a 4.5 out of 5.0 stars and a place among the best RV brands in the country.

But that doesn’t mean the luxury RV manufacturer is without its downsides. Here’s a quick look at the brand’s advantages and disadvantages.

Grand Design RV was founded by former leaders from Keystone RV in 2012. As part of its brand strategy, the Middlebury, Indiana company puts an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with its customers.

After watching the brand’s quick rise to prominence with popular models like the Grand Design Reflection and the Grand Design Solitude, RV giant Winnebago bought the company in 2016. However, Winnebago has allowed the company to continue to manufacture its campers independently, enabling it to maintain its strict quality and service standards.

Grand Design RVs come at a wide range of price points and tend to be a little more expensive than many of its competitors, with models starting at around $30,000 and climbing up well past $160,000 . Grand Design sells towable travel trailers, fifth-wheels , and toy haulers. It doesn’t sell motorized RVs like Class A , Class B , or Class C RVs.

Below, you’ll find a table of each of Grand Design’s RV model groups along with their starting MSRP. Models range from the single-axle Imagine Aim to the spacious Solitude line for full-time RVers. Many floor plans offer slide-outs for expanded living areas. Be aware that, given the popularity of the RV lifestyle, these prices will likely fluctuate. Your local Grand Design RV dealer will be able to give you actual quotes on models.

*Price reflects Grand Design ’s pre-selected options on all models.

Grand Design has as strong a reputation for quality as any RV manufacturer in the world. The manufacturer’s build quality is a consistent talking point in Grand Design RV reviews from customers.

That’s not just anecdotal, either. For starters, Grand Design opts for higher-end materials. Many RV makers use Azdel, a lightweight manufactured material for their exterior panels. While this is cheaper, many consider it inferior to Luan, which is made from natural wood and stronger than Azdel. Grand Design only uses Luan on its campers.

Grand Design Pre-Delivery Inspection

Where Grand Design really excels, however, is in its quality control. Many companies save on labor costs by using their assembly team to conduct pre-delivery inspections. This can often result in things being missed and becoming problems down the line.

Alternatively, Grand Design employs a separate team just to do its pre-delivery inspections. This is a rigorous 300+ point inspection that rivals any quality assurance system in the RV industry. That level of inspection can offer you peace of mind in an industry where build quality is often an issue.

Grand Design Customer Support

Another of Grand Design RV’s major selling points is its strong reputation for customer service. In addition to its helpful customer support line, the company launched the website GDRV4Life.GrandDesignRV.com to serve as a resource and knowledge base for owners around the world.

Another unofficial forum, GDRVowners.com, serves as an additional resource for information and community-building. The site has nearly 4,000 registered users and has over a dozen subcategories dedicated to issues such as electrical systems and HVAC.

Grand Design packages two warranties with its new RVs:

  • Base Limited Warranty : This one-year warranty covers factory defects in quality and materials across the entire RV and can transfer to new owners if the RV is sold.
  • Limited Structural Warranty : This plan covers defects in structural components for three years, but does not transfer to secondary owners.

Both of these warranties come with important exclusions in the fine print. For starters, they only cover problems that arise from driving and camping. It won’t cover damages that come from commercial use, lack of maintenance, or any use outside of normal RVing.

These warranties may seem paltry compared to those you might find on a new car. However, these warranties actually exceed many of those offered by Grand Design’s competitors. While many RV companies do package a one-year warranty with their campers, these often don’t transfer to secondary owners.

Grand Design RV reviews from both industry organizations and customers are overall positive. On the industry side, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) issued the company an A+, although it has not accredited the company. The BBB lists about 60 complaints about the company over the last three years. Given the amount of RVs it sells, that number is small.

On RVInsider , Grand Design has a solid 3.9 out of 5.0 stars overall, earning its highest marks in the Floorplan and Driving/towing categories. Below are samples of both positive and negative reviews for the RV manufacturer on the site.

Positive Grand Design RV Reviews

Among favorable customer reviews for Grand Design, owners consistently mention the craftsmanship of their RVs as well as the campers’ overall comfort.

“The RV designers planned a floor plan to meet the needs of a family or couple who enjoy traveling, and the outdoors with the comforts of home. The sturdy structure made towing smooth and safe.” – Cynthia, 2019 Grand Design Imagine
“This 5th wheel has been amazing for our family. With the size it made it comfortable to get out of the weather as needed on our trips.” – Kristy, 2017 Grand Design Momentum M-Class

Negative Grand Design RV Reviews

Unfortunately, some people do not have as positive an experience with their Grand Design RVs. Most of the complaints we see center around things coming loose on the vehicle. However, this is a common complaint across nearly every RV brand.

“Been in the shop for water leaks more than with us since May this year. Numerous small detail problems from backsplash glue coming loose, patio completely out of adjustment and patio awning same.” – Dave, 2021 Grand Design Momentum G-Class
“Trailer is falling apart after 1,500 miles and the warranty is no good. The doors won’t stay closed going down [the] road. Already ruined the back door… None of the compartment doors close correctly. The propane tanks are held in with banding iron and clips.” – Jim, 2017 Grand Design Momentum M-Class

If you are in the market for a high-quality towable RV and don’t mind paying a little more, a Grand Design RV is an excellent choice. The brand’s reputation for quality found in Grand Design RV reviews seems to hold up under scrutiny, and its after-sales service rivals that of any brand in the industry.

With the variety of models and floorplans Grand Design has to offer, you’re likely to find exactly what you’re looking for. You also have the ability to customize your RV on the company’s website and request a quote. However, it is always a good idea to find a Grand Design RV dealership near you and see one in person.

Is Grand Design a quality RV?

Based on the Auto Service Research Team study, Grand Design builds high-quality RVs. The company also uses an extensive 300+ independent inspection to ensure that quality remains consistent across every RV it sells.

Who manufactures Grand Design RV?

Although Winnebago purchased the brand in 2016, Grand Design continues to manufacture its RVs independently. This has allowed the company to uphold its strict quality standards.

What is the top-of-the-line Grand Design RV?

Grand Design ’s premier model is the Solitude. This luxury fifth-wheel RV offers the company’s highest trim and features.

What is the lightest Grand Design travel trailer?

Grand Design ’s Imagine XLS is the company’s lightest travel trailer . Starting at just over 4,500 pounds, drivers can safely tow the Imagine XLS travel trailer with most SUVs and medium-duty trucks.

Key Features and Benefits of Each Model

Both the Reflection travel trailers and the fifth wheel RVs encompass a suite of Grand Design RV options that speak to meticulous craftsmanship and ingenuity. While steeped in luxury, the travel trailers offer a more compact size, making them ideal for shorter trips or those new to the RV scene. The fifth wheel models, on the other hand, boast expanded interior space and sophisticated amenities, often considered for full-time living or extensive travel adventures.

  • Reflection Travel Trailers : Known for their lightweight design, cost-effectiveness, and variety in style, they offer an introduction to luxury without the need for advanced towing equipment.
  • Reflection Fifth Wheel RVs : Stand out with their higher ceilings, spacious interiors, and increased storage, delivering an elevated living experience akin to a residential home.

Which Reflection Model Suits Your Travelling Style?

Identifying the Reflection model that harmonizes with your travel rhythm hinges on a blend of lifestyle considerations and logistical requisites. Whether embarking on a weekend sojourn, a seasonal dwelling, or embracing the roads as a perennial abode, your choice between the travel trailer and fifth wheel will shadow your trajectory.

The selection of a Reflection travel trailer or a Reflection fifth wheel RV ultimately crystallizes around the nucleus of individual travel narratives and the irrevocable call of the road. Delve into the fabric of your wanderlust to discern which Reflection profoundly echoes your aspirations of travel and habitation.

The Allure of High Ceilings and Spacious Living in Fifth Wheels

The quintessence of luxury fifth wheel living is exemplified by the Reflection fifth wheel’s spacious interior, designed not only to tantalize the aesthetic senses but to deliver a living experience that rivals the comfort of a traditional home. The allure of high ceilings in these RVs extends the notion of open-concept living to the great outdoors, promising an ambiance that is equally liberating and elegant.

Reflection fifth wheel spacious interior with high ceiling

Capturing the essence of adaptable living, the Reflection fifth wheel series elevates the concept of space within the RV lifestyle . These models are ceaselessly acclaimed for their generosity of interior volume and the clever use of space, which manifests in a myriad of ways to enhance the owner’s experience.

From the onset, the grandiosity of high ceiling RVs imparts an air of majesty that is seldom found in traditional travel setups. This architectural liberty allows for installation of high-end appliances that would typically be constrained by shorter vertical limits. Furthermore, it provides room for additional storage solutions — a luxury in the world of mobile living — thus delivering functionality without compromising on style.

Here is an overview of how the spacious interiors and high ceilings of Reflection Fifth Wheels convert to quantifiable benefits:

The Reflection fifth wheel’s interior not only offers a physical expanse but also a psychological one; the feeling of being “cramped” is no more. With the transformation of interior layouts to accommodate lifestyles that favor prolonged travel periods or even full-time living, the journey on the road becomes synonymous with freedom and luxury. This is truly indicative of the splendor that Grand Design offers through their acclaimed Reflection series.

Thus, the Reflection fifth wheel stands as a testament to the harmony of space, luxury, and functionality. It provides an environment where one can bask in the expansiveness of high ceilings while reveling in a living space that is as vast as the horizons that beckon beyond the open road.

Comprehensive Guide to Reflection’s Enhanced Usability Features

As modern RV enthusiasts lean towards sustainable RV living , the Grand Design Reflection series stands out by integrating technological advancements aimed at enhancing usability. By focusing on eco-friendly solutions, Grand Design Reflection has set a new precedent for luxury RVs equipped for the future. Let’s explore the key enhancements that make the Reflection series a perfect choice for those seeking a harmonious blend of comfort and sustainability.

Advancements in Solar Power Integration

The integration of RV solar power systems signifies a transformative step in energy independence for RV users. Reflection’s solar-ready features are particularly impressive, offering options for a 180-Watt solar panel combined with a controller and inverter prep. This setup not only ensures that power is harnessed efficiently from the sun but also provides the means for owners to expand their solar capacity to meet their specific needs.

Such solar advancements support a variety of on-the-road activities, from powering lights and appliances to ensuring that battery banks stay charged, even when boondocking. The move towards RV solar power systems reflects Grand Design’s commitment to fostering sustainable RV living , providing a cleaner, greener way to enjoy the freedom of the open road.

Tankless Water Systems for Endless Comfort

The Grand Design Reflection series goes beyond just power sustainability. Through the integration of tankless water heating systems, the Reflection provides uninterrupted access to hot water. The convenience and efficiency of Grand Design Reflection tankless water heaters offer endless on-demand hot water, which is not only a hallmark of comfort but also a considerable reduction in water waste.

With these tankless systems, gone are the days of rationing hot water or waiting for the water to heat up. Reflection owners can enjoy the luxuries of home with a continuous flow of hot water – perfect for showers, cooking, and other daily needs, all while minimizing their ecological footprint on the environment.

In essence, the two-fold leap in usability – through solar power enhancements and innovative tankless water systems – evidences Grand Design’s commitment to merging luxury with responsible living. RVers can now relish the full extent of their adventures without compromising on comfort or ecological considerations.

Reflection Prices: What You Need to Know

Stepping into the market of luxury trailers, the Grand Design Reflection has garnered attention for its premium amenities and robust features. Yet, understanding the nuances in Grand Design Reflection prices and the cost of owning an RV can be instrumental in making a prudent purchase decision. Whether you’re eyeing a new model straight off the dealership floor or seeking a budget-friendly used option, several factors will dictate the total financial commitment involved.

Breaking Down New and Used Reflection RV Costs

Embarking on RV ownership starts with a clear evaluation of costs. New Reflection RVs, replete with fresh features and the latest design upgrades, start at approximately $46,000 for travel trailers and $49,000 for fifth wheels. The allure of a new model comes with the promise of untouched hardware and the lack of wear and tear. Aspiring owners seeking RV investment strategies may find value in new models that come with warranties and dealer support.

In the market for used RVs, prior ownership translates into lower price points, with Reflection travel trailers and fifth wheels costing between $20,000 to $100,000, depending on their condition and model year. Those with a keen eye for value can spot a deal, where the depreciation curve favors the buyer, granting access to the premium Grand Design lifestyle at a fraction of the original price.

Getting the Best Deal: Tips on RV Purchasing Strategies

Securing your Reflection RV needs a blend of strategy and understanding the subtle shifts in the RV marketplace. Here are some pivotal steps and considerations:

  • Research extensively online and through dealer visits to understand market pricing.
  • Consider the end-of-season sales or RV shows, which can offer significant discounts.
  • Factor in the cost of owning an RV , which includes maintenance, storage, and operational expenses.
  • Investigate financing options that allow for comfortable payment plans without overleveraging.
  • Don’t shy away from negotiating on price, particularly with used models.
  • Ensure thorough inspection before purchasing used, or consider certified pre-owned models for added assurance.

Let’s glance at a table that breaks down the costs associated with new and used Grand Design Reflection models to give you a snapshot of what to expect financially:

Is The 2024 Reflection 100 22RK a Good Value?

The 100 series is full of smart features that make it a good value for a reasonable price . No, it’s not the least expensive 5th wheel, but you get a lot for your money.

You’ll also pay less for this than a Grand Design 150 series . This 100 series is similar to the Cougar Sport Series – another bang for your buck option compared to the more expensive Cougar line.

Grand Design’s RVs may be more expensive than some options, but they are also known to be well built. Read more about Grand Design’s manufacturing and inspection process for more details.

The kitchen, living and sleep space also use space efficiently, so your RV feels cozy, not cramped.

  • Spacious Countertop
  • 180 Watt Solar Panel

Living & Dining Areas

The living and dining space in the Reflection 100 Series RV is designed for convenience, comfort, and social interaction. Plus, they’ve paid extra attention to practical details like heating, storage, and using space well.

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

Theater seat:

The sofa faces the dinette so you can see and talk with family and friends.

No floor vents:

If you’re bringing along pets, kids, or you just like an easy to clean floor – ventless floors are a big win. It’s easier to sweep and keep your vents clean. Besides, it looks better!

The TV is mounted pretty high up. The space below the TV is empty, so you could possibly add a drop-down TV mount if the higher up TV is a problem for you.

Storage and Utility Spaces:

This 5th wheel has extra cabinets to store your stuff. Since the slide-out is on the smaller end, this is even more helpful.

The overhead cabinet in the living space also has a power outlet beneath it.

2024 22rk main bedroom

  • True, 60” x 80,” queen-size bed with plenty of space to get around the bed.
  • Storage! Including a large closet and dresser drawers down to the floor, so you’ll have room for your clothes and necessities.
  • TV hookup in the bedroom if you want to install a TV
  • Convenient charging and power for your devices with USB plugs in a small shelf above the bed
  • Windows on both sides for a nice cross-breeze and more natural light
  • The main AC unit is a 15,000 BTU, centrally ducted system. It’s also wired for 50 amp service, so it could support a second air conditioner, if you need one for the bedroom.
  • Watch your feet! There is an extra step, or, as Josh says an “ankle breaker step of death.” This step is actually needed to make the upper deck structure stable. So, it may not be ideal, but it makes the overall RV better and safer.

Grand Design Reflection 22RK Bathroom

Shower:

Plenty of headroom in the 22RK shower! Josh is over 6’ tall and still had plenty of headroom.

The shower is rectangular so you’ll have more elbow room in the shower, especially compared to the more standard radius RV showers.

You’re probably used to seeing a skylight in an RV shower – but not this one! Instead of a skylight the bathroom uses recessed lighting. Cutting the skylight cuts down the risk of roof leaks/seal issues. It also means the temperature in your bathroom will be more like the rest of the RV – instead of getting too hot or too cold.

Sink & Counter Space

Here you’ll find a large sink with a good amount of counter space. This also leaves room for extra drawer storage below.

Bathroom Heat Vent

Just above the floor you’ll find a heat vent. This will keep your bathroom warm, even when it’s chilly out.

This porcelain foot flush throne is not crowded. RVers come in all shapes and sizes and this is a comfortable fit for most. Well done, Grand Design.

100 RK 5th Wheel Exterior Features

grand design reflection travel trailer reviews

  • Solar Panel and Controller: The 22RK includes a 180-watt solar panel on the roof, and a 60 amp MPPT solar charge controller for expanded solar capacity – if you choose.
  • Tires and Suspension: This RV uses Goodyear endurance radials and includes a MORyde suspension upgrade package to improve your ride quality and how this 5th wheel handles the road.
  • Towing Package: A 3,000 lb towing package on the back of the RV adds to its utility and functionality.
  • Pass-Through Storage Compartment: The full pass-through storage includes forced air heating and TV hookups. Versatile and convenient!
  • Gas Grill Quick Connect included for outdoor cooking
  • Auto-Leveling System: The auto-leveling control system is easy-to-reach, but high enough to avoid accidental damage.
  • Docking Center
  • Dual sewer system: We call this the “two-headed sewer monster.” It has separate gray tank outlets for the kitchen and bathroom.
  • Battery Disconnect and Storage Mode Features: The RV includes a battery disconnect system to prevent your battery draining when the RV is in storage mode.
  • Roof Designed for More Solar: The roof is built to support more solar panels if you want to add more.

Road Mode: Towing & Travel Access in a 100 22RK

What you need to tow a 22rk:.

You may be able to tow this smaller, more versatile 5th wheel with a half-ton truck. But, a ¾ ton truck will be an even more comfortable fit. Always find out what your truck can tow and handle before you buy a 5th wheel.

Check out Josh’s video guide to figuring out what you should tow, for more info:

Can You Access a 100 22RK With the Slides In?

The slide in floor plan has been reworked to allow access to the bedroom and bathroom when the slide is closed. The travel access is a standout feature for this RV. If you plan to be on the road quite a bit, you’ll likely appreciate the travel layout.

Pros and Cons of a Reflection 100 22RK 5th Wheel

Overall the Reflection 100 Series as a well-rounded RV with many features that make it especially usable. But, no RV is perfect for every RVer, so you’ll want to consider the pros and cons before you decide if this RV is what you’re looking for.

  • Light Weight with Plenty of Cargo Capacity: This weighs less than 7,000 lb dry and has about 3,000 lb of cargo carrying capacity. For an RV of this type, it’s relatively lightweight, but still able to carry a significant load.
  • Great Travel Access: The closed slide still allows access to the bedroom and bathroom. This is a unique feature not usually seen with this floor plan on other RVs.
  • Solar Power Included: The 180-watt solar panel and 60 amp MPPT controller support off-grid camping and there’s room for more solar.
  • Auto Leveling: Even though this is a more budget-friendly model, it still includes an auto-leveling system. A notable feature for an RV in this class!
  • Interior Layout: The social seating arrangement and practical kitchen and bedroom designs emphasize comfort and function.
  • Pass-Through Storage: A full pass-through, heated storage compartment with TV hookups is convenient and usable.
  • Possible Half-Ton Towing: With less than 1,100 lbs of hitch weight, it may be suitable for some half-ton trucks.
  • High TV Placement : The high-mounted TV might not offer the best viewing angle, although there is potential to swap for a drop down mount.
  • Bedroom Storage Access: Some of the storage in the bedroom might require a step stool to access. The higher cabinets may especially be hard to access if you aren’t very tall.
  • Dual Sewer System: The dual sewer system (“two-headed sewer monster”) could complicate your setup and maintenance processes.
  • Exterior Sewer Hose Storage: The placement and necessity of a sewer hose caddy tube may not appeal to you.

Is This the Right 5th Wheel for You?

The 22RK is a good fit if you want:

Full access with the slide-in: If you’re on the road a lot or just want to be able to get to the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen, this is a great option.

To go off-grid: The 180-watt solar panel and a 60 amp MPPT controller make it possible to get off-grid when you camp.

To use a smaller truck: If you don’t have a heavy-duty tow vehicle and don’t want to put too much burden on your truck, the 22RK’s lower hitch weight and lighter design may be the right answer.

Comfort and amenities at a reasonable price point: With higher end features like auto-leveling, the thoughtful interior layout, ample storage, and comfortable sleeping arrangements – this 5th wheel hits a high-value sweet spot for many 5th wheel buyers.

To camp with your kids or pets: The vent-free floors make this safer, and easier to clean. A great combo for pet owners or families on the go.

Practicality over luxury: The focus of this RV is more on essential features and efficient use of space than luxury additions. If you’re practical-minded and need the necessities without a lot of frills, this may be your RV.

This RV is not ideal for:

First-time RV owners: The RV’s features, such as the dual sewer system and the specific towing requirements, might be overly complicated if you’re starting to RV.

RVers wanting ultra-luxurious features: If you’re looking for high-end luxury you might find this RV’s focus on essential and practical features a bit underwhelming.

Large families or groups: This RV sleeps 4 adults, so it might not be spacious enough for very large families or groups who need a lot of living and sleeping space.

Owners of smaller, less capable tow vehicles: Yes, it’s lighter weight, but the 22 RK still requires a truck with a decent towing capacity. If you own a half-ton, it may be possible to tow this RV. But, if you have a smaller truck, this isn’t a good fit.

A more traditional camping experience: Nothing wrong with being a little old school! If you like a little less technology and fewer amenities while you’re in nature, you may find this RV a little too much for your taste.

A tight budget: While this 5th wheel is a good price for the features, it still includes some advanced features like auto-leveling and a solar power system that might put it out of reach if you’re on a tight budget. You could consider a less expensive 5th wheel, a travel trailer, or wait to buy if this is out of budget.

2015 Grand Design Reflection Super-Lite 27RL Review

RVGuide.com

Eight floorplans are available to choose from and we decided to look at the Super-Lite 27RL. We want something that feels like home and is easy to tow and the 27RL delivers. It has a gross vehicle weight rating of 9,995 lbs, dry weight of 7,998 lbs, and hitch weight of 1,516 lbs. For measurements, the Super-Lite 27RL has an exterior height of 12’0” and exterior length of 30’11”. For liquids it has a fresh tank capacity of 60 gallons, grey tank capacity of 75 gallons, black tank capacity of 43 gallons, and water heater capacity of six gallons.

Grand Design’s reputation for quality products starts with its construction. The Reflection Super-Lite 27RL features a gel-coated tan fiberglass exterior and residential 5” truss rafters. The roof has walk-on decking, along with fiberglass and thermfoil insulation. Grand Design stands by its one-piece roof membrane with a 12-year warranty. The Reflection is equipped with easy to access low point drain valves and extra large fresh water drain valves. Sidewalls, end walls, and roof are laminated and aluminum-framed.

Starting with the exterior, the Reflection Super-Lite is designed to function efficiently and make your road trips as comfortable as possible. The aerodynamic front cap is equipped with a max turn radius. The LED hitch light is marine-grade, while the LED night-lights are located under the bedroom slide floor. As for the exterior, the Reflection Super-Lite features EQUA FLEX rubberized suspension and a Correct Track axle alignment system. Radius safety glass windows have an 80% tint. To fulfill your outdoor needs, the unit is equipped with outside speakers and an outside shower.

When you walk inside you’ll feel at home in the modest, yet beautiful atmosphere. Large panoramic slide room windows have residential-style window treatment and, more importantly, soak in lots of sunlight. Cabinetry features hand-rubbed maple cabinet doors and solid hardwood drawer fronts. As well, cabinetry is predrilled and screwed. Ball bearing full extension drawer glides make it easy and painless to open and close drawers. To add to the residential feel, the living room features ductless flooring.

Road trips require lots of fuel for your RV and your belly. Instead of picking up food at a drive thru or gas station, prepare your meals at home. The kitchen is equipped with the essentials so you can eat home-cooked meals, even when you’re on the road. Wash vegetables in the deep kitchen sink that features a high-rise faucet with a pullout sprayer. Once they’re washed, chop veggies up on the solid surface LG countertops. When everything is prepped, toss it on the three-burner range and cook. Serve meals at the freestanding dinette and store leftovers in the eight-cubic-foot, double-door refrigerator.

2015 grand design reflection super lite 27rl review

After a big dinner, you and your family will probably need a few hours to relax and digest. The living room is the perfect place to kick back your feet and enjoy some quality family time. You can choose between sitting on one of two theater seats or the hide-a-bed sofa, which converts into a queen-sized bed. Both options feature overhead cabinetry, which provides ample storage space. You can choose between watching your favourite TV shows on the 32” television, listening to music on the AM/FM/CD/DVD Bluetooth stereo system or watching the calming flames of the electric fireplace. With this kind of entertainment, you’ll never be bored!

Road trips can get messy, especially when they involve outdoor adventures and long drives. That’s where the bathroom comes in. The shower features neo radius doors and a wide view radius skylight. Grand Design also equipped the bathroom with heat duct, AC vents and a power vent fan. The extra large lavatory top comes with an acrylic sink and a large, mirrored medicine cabinet above.

When you’re finally ready to recharge for another day on the road, head to your bedroom. Equipped with spacious wardrobes, overhead compartments and underbed storage, you’ll be able to store your clothes and belongings in a highly organized fashion. Close the blinds on your window and get comfortable on the residential bedspread of your queen-sized bed, equipped with a black label pillowtop mattress. If you’re an entertainment junkie then you’ll be relieved to know that the bedroom comes with TV and cable prep.
