Fuel rose to prominence during the new millennium's post-grunge scene, achieving a number of hit singles with their well-polished, hard rock sound.

Formed in Kenton, Tennessee, US, the band came together in 1989, featuring singer/guitarist Brett Scallions, guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie and drummer Kevin Miller. Having established their presence on the local scene, Fuel relocated to Pennsylvania in 1993, hoping to find a more fertile ground for their music to develop.

They made their record debut in 1996with the independently released EP, "Porcelain," which became a local success, bolstered by radio airplay of their single, "Shimmer." Sony's 550 imprint saw the band's potential and signed them to their roster, releasing the "Hazleton" EP in 1997 before then releasing their debut album, "Sunburn," in 1998. 'Shimmer" again became a hit, almost breaking into Billboard's Top 40. Bolstered by three further hit singles, Fuel's debut was certified Platinum, establishing the band on the hard rock scene.

Their second effort, "Something Like Human" was released in 2000, prompting further commercial success, reaching number 12 on the Billboard album charts and selling double-Platinum. 2003's "Natural Selection" continued to find Fuel hits, with the lead single, "Falls on Me," although it failed to muster the same number of sales as previous albums.

After releasing a greatest hits album, lead singer Scallions decided to depart from the band, wishing to pursue other musical interests. Toryn Green became a worthy replacement, making his debut on the band's fourth record, "Angels & Devils." Miller also left the drum stool, with Fuel filling the void with both Tommy Stewart (ex-Godsmack) and John Freese (Nine Inch Nails/A Perfect Circle). The album appeared in 2007, finding moderate chart success.

Scallions returned in 2010, with the band continuing to tour across the US. They returned to the studio in 2012, beginning work on their fifth full-length, enlisting producer Eddie Wohl to work on the album. The record saw an eventual release in March 2014, with the album breaking into the Billboard's album chart's Top 100 at number 77 upon its debut.

Live reviews

On paper, at least, the post-grunge movement shouldn’t really have had any kind of longevity attached to it; for my money, the whole idea of prefixing ‘post’ to a musical movement is to provide a kind of place holder, in terms of musical terminology, until the next major stylistic shift occurs. Despite that fact, though - and despite the fact that they share their name with a frankly horrendous Metallica album - Fuel are still going strong, twenty-five years after their formation, even though that genre tag was one that they struggled to shake off early in their careers. Admittedly, they’ve hardly been massively prodigious in terms of their work ethic - turning out just five records, an average of one every five years - but they’ve succeeded in securing a cult fanbase, which would explain why they were still a going concern as of the release of Puppet Strings earlier this year. The album met with strong reviews and saw the band hit the road once more, tearing through their impressive back catalogue night after night across America; frontman Brett Scallions is showing no signs of slowing down with age, and UK fans will be waiting with bated breath for an announcement from the band as to British tour dates before the year is out.

Although Fuel have gone through a huge amount of lineup changes and alterations, they remain to be a fantastic example of the post grunge revival of the 90s in the modern age. A movement that has very much depleted as of late, Fuel still continue to tour globally to an energised and dedicated fanbase who continue to pack out venues in order to hear classic 90s material alongside new releases such as 'Angels & Devils'.

The quartet onstage seems re-energised and despite losing lead guitarist Carl Bell in 2010, they appear strong as a unit. They are not a particularly charismatic outfit, and neither is their stage show as they step onto a pretty sparse stage and take up their instruments. However the audience has not come for production values, they have come to hear cult classics such as 'Shimmer' and 'Sunburn' in all of their grunge majesty. The band does not disappoint, playing note perfect renditions of all the hits before ending on a particularly chaotic version of 'Hemorrhage (In My Hands)'. Long live the grunge.

I've seen Fuel 7 or 8 times in the last few years. I follow them from Texas to Oklahoma and Missouri. I have seen umerois venues and although I like The Lava Cantina in The Colony (outside Dallas) I feel the stage is too high to watch from the floor.

Last nites concert was a celebration of their anniversary for their previous album and they were on point. Bret looked quite the rocker in his vest and hat. Such a big change from his typical plaid shirt look. The pictures I took were awful from the shadows of the stage lights, but I have several other pictures from other shows.

Also wanna say a great big thanks for Jason's solo guitar time. He is such a thrill to listen to.

So, until the next show. So long for now. Please continue to post videos on social media. I love to see them. Best wishes!!

The Bride, "everyone here is so old, I feel like we are the youngest people in here."

"No, that's how old he look now."

"Really?"

"Yes. Today I found a gray pube."

Fuel rocked that 500 person crowd like they were playing to 50,000 people. Sometimes you can still party like it's 1999, Even in 2016. I thought, by now in life, I'd be too jaded to get excited about a fist bump from Brett scallions, but it had me glowing like a teenager for at least five minutes. And Shimmer is still one of the 10 greatest most melodic rock songs of my life.

Fuel is just such an amazing band to see. So full of energy and appreciation for their fans, they absolutely rocked the Starland Ballroom last night -- was such a great show!! The only downfall for me was Jason Womack was not there - a personal favorite of mine, he was sorely missed...but his replacement was very good also & the show went on in its amazing style as always!!

Happy 20th Anniversary Sunburn!!

I saw Fuel at The Paramount on Long Island. Probably one of the BEST concerts I’ve seen in a long time. Stood right up front and just lived the hell out of them all. They were awesome!! Fit to meet them after the show- it was a great night. CANNOT WAIT for them to come back for the Sunburn tour SOON!!!

Had a great time seeing Fuel..good performance, great night. Free concert allowed me take kids, friends and they're kids to get to experience a good concert. They were one of the first bands I ever saw years ago...hope to see more of them in the future.

The Fuel show was awesome. Brett Scallions sang his ass off. This was the 2nd time I have seen them, and they did not disappoint. They had a "guest" lead guitarist from the previous band who did an absolutely great job.

20th Anniversary of the Sunburn album and they sang it in its entirety. Brett sings his heart out and it doesn’t go unnoticed! Lifetime Fuel fan for sure, they rock! I will see them every time they’re in town.

Destiny unfolds unexpectedly. However, it pushes us exactly where we’re supposed to be at just the right time. In this respect, you could say the 2021 rebirth of GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi platinum rock band Fuel was simply meant to be.

Formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell in 1989. They are known for their hit songs “Shimmer” from the album Sunburn, “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” and “Bad Day” from the album Something Like Human, as well as “Falls on Me” from the album Natural Selection as well as many other rock singles and albums. In addition, the band had multiple videos in heavy rotation on MTV, numerous live network TV performances in the US, Canada, and Australia, and songs on film soundtracks such as Scream 3, Daredevil, A Walk to Remember, and Godzilla. The album Sunburn is certified platinum by the RIAA, and the album Something Like Human is certified double-platinum.  "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" held the #1 spot on Billboard’s Rock charts for over 3 months and in 2013 became the No. 6 Alternative Rock song of the past 25 years according to Billboard's Alternative Chart 25th Anniversary Top 100 Songs.

After rebuilding their brotherhood, founder, guitarist, and songwriter Carl Bell and longtime drummer Kevin Miller didn’t just celebrate their history together. They rushed into the future joined by new blood—Aaron Scott [lead vocals, guitar] from The Voice, Mark Klotz [guitar, vocals], and Tommy Nat [bass, vocals]—and armed with their first album together in 18 years, Ånomåly. Much like the title suggests, it serves as the aberration rock music needs.

Fuel’s New Lineup and Live’s Enduring Passion: A Night to Remember in Cincinnati

' src=

CINCINNATI, OH- Fans from all over converged on the Hard Rock Cincinnati Outdoor Arena to witness a nostalgic performance by two of the ’90s modern rock giants. As we waited for the concert to begin, the atmosphere was electrified with anticipation. Despite both bands having faced lineup changes, legal disputes, and other challenges that many groups encounter, they’ve managed to sustain their popularity and not merely become cautionary tales. Now, both groups have rejuvenated with new lineups and a fresh passion for music.

Fuel at Hard Rock Cincinnati Outdoor Arena 8/26/23. Photo by Michael Bunuan (@Michael_Bunuan_Photogrpahy) for www.BlurredCulture.com.

Fuel kicked off the concert. Founding songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell and longtime drummer Kevin Miller introduced a new lineup in 2020 after Brett Scallions, the original singer, left. Now they’re joined by singer/guitarist Aaron Scott (a contestant from Season 19 of “The Voice”), guitarist Mark Klotz, and bassist Tommy Nat. The band played with a cohesion that made it seem as if they’d been together for decades.

Scott seemed entirely at ease leading the band, at one point scaling the scaffolding mid-song. With the music’s intensity, Bell delivered several remarkable solos during the performance. A bare-chested Miller animatedly drummed, encouraging audience participation. While they released “Anomaly” in 2021, most of their set drew from their first three albums, including hits like “Bad Day” and “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)”. They have upcoming festival performances in November and April 2024.

I’ve been an avid fan of Live since hearing “Pain Lies on the Riverside” on MTV around 1991 or 1992. The drum intro, funky bass, and especially Ed Kowalczyk’s soulful vocals captivated me. After buying “Mental Jewelry” on cassette, I became smitten with the album. I recall seeing them perform at the University Of California Riverside’s student center in the ’90s, though I’m unsure whether it was before or after the release of “Throwing Copper.” My lasting impression was just how much I enjoyed the music. Today, only original singer Ed Kowalczyk remains. After taking charge of Live in June 2022, the group now features Kowalczyk with touring members guitarist Zak Loy, drummer Robin Diaz, keyboardist Nick Jay, and stand-in bassist Rachel Loy, who temporarily replaced bassist Chris Heerlien.

Taking the stage in white jeans, a black tee, a well-worn jacket, and sunglasses, Kowalczyk and Live began with “Hold Me Up”, a track from the 25th-anniversary reissue of “Throwing Copper.” They played seven songs from this album, including “All Over You” and “Freaks”. Ed’s vocals, as stirring as ever, brought back memories from their prime. Other standout performances included “Selling the Drama”, “Dolphins Cry”, and “Pain Lies on the Riverside”. I wished they’d played “Operation Spirit” or “Brothers Unaware.” Their rendition of “White, Discussion” was lively, with Kowalczyk energetically roaming the stage.

After a brief interlude, the band returned for an encore, starting with “Overcome” and transitioning into “Lakini’s Juice”. The lighting and visuals during this song were particularly memorable. Kowalczyk’s vocals, particularly during “it was an evening I shared with the sun”, resonated deeply. The encore concluded with two of their biggest hits, “I Alone” and “Lightning Crashes”, the latter featuring a sing-along with the crowd. As the night came to a close, Live took their bows, and while I yearned for more, I left feeling content. I recommend catching Live in their upcoming October/November shows. I’m optimistic about new music from them in the future, but until then, their classics suffice.

Rock band Fuel’s new lineup proves themselves more than worthy at hometown concert

I have been  a long time Fuel fan, since the 90's when drummer Kevin Miller, and then lead vocalist Brett Scallions hung out at Casey's bar on Front Street in Allentown . ( Formerly the Green Pine Inn).

Kevin Miller left the band in 2014, and Scallions in 2020, to pursue their own thing. In between that time , founder Carl Bell wrote a country solo cd, from his longtime home in Nashville.

Miller, had several successful bands over the years, starting with early 90's band Shotgun Wedding, then Fosterchild, and most recently his band, Pop Rock Party Band "Smashed"

It was in his most recent band , that he hooked up with the great players that would come to be the new reinvention of Fuel. With the new  addition of   vocalist John Corsale, guitarist Mark Klotz, and bassist Tommy Nat, he knew he had a winning team of musicians.

Kevin, who was Fuel's original drummer and friend, contacted Carl Bell, Fuel founder and told him he had the perfect band, and all Carl had to do is write.

With Covid restrictions, this was the perfect project for Carl to focus on, and sink his teeth into. The results were worth every minute he spent, and he was excited because this was to be the best lineup of musicians he had ever worked with.

The question was: Could Brett Scallions replacement on lead vocals, John Corsale cut it for both the old Fuel sound that fans had come to love, and the new 2021 sound? Could the band pull off the Fuel hits, and sound good on the new material?

The answer is a resounding yes! Corsale , who had vocal training with local musician, Connie Edinger, had nuances of Scallions vocals,  while maintaining his own identity. Not only did he have great stage presence, but also played great guitar as well.

The anticipated appearance of the new Fuel lineup and music, drew a crowd of  standing room only fans, which fell slightly under the 1000 capacity mark.

There was much appreciation evident by this crowd of faithful Fuel followers, that sang along to all their hits, as well as songs off their new Cd Anomaly.

The band was a tight knit unit, moving flawlessly from one song to the next, starting with  "Last Time",  and ending with all time favorite Fuel song, "Hemorrhage In my Hands".

With this new lineup, and what the  new cd says about Fuel, is to not discount them out of the current music scene, because they are back with a vengeance!

I look forward to hearing more music from Carl Bell and the boys, and seeing future concerts as well!

FUEL Returns With New Singer JOHN CORSALE; Band Teases 'Hård' Single

Multi-platinum alternative rock icons FUEL have announce the upcoming release of their first album in seven years, "Ånomåly" , due out in October. The 11 original tracks were written by songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell reunited with original FUEL drummer Kevin Miller , accompanied by new singer John Corsale (lead vocals, guitar), Mark Klotz (guitar, vocals) and Tommy Nat (bass, vocals).

Founding member Bell , sole songwriter of all lyrics and music to all previous FUEL hits, returns to the helm as primary songwriter, and also as the producer. He even mixed the album. Carl wrote and recorded the songs in his Las Vegas studio with vocals recorded at Soundmine Recording Studio and King Studios in Pennsylvania.

Carl and Kevin recently shared a video of their emotional in-person reunion after a decade.

In a video posted on Facebook , fans reacted with the expected reverie as FUEL reignited their relationship with each other and with their fans.

"We were just patient with each other," Carl says. "From the first conversation, I recognized the same feeling in Kevin 's voice. FUEL was huge for us. It was a great moment in our lives, and Kevin was as grateful for the opportunities that FUEL gave us as I was. We bonded on that fact. I would've taken a bullet for him — I still would."

Kevin says: "For me, new beginnings are exciting, but more often than not, they scare the shit out of me. As much as I love touching my toe to new water, I'm always afraid of the creatures lingering in the depths.

"I am incredibly excited about this new venture and new lineup of FUEL . Making this record shed a lot of light on what will be, such an amazing amount of talent in this band."

Corsale hails from Pennsylvania and joins FUEL as Kevin and Carl reunite after a decades-long separation.

Carl adds: "A few months ago, I had no idea I would be returning to FUEL full time, so when it happened, my first call was to Kevin . He simply said, 'I have the band. I promise you, these are the guys.' He was right. All are great musicians, and John is this 26-year-old great guitarist as well as a great vocalist and frontman. He sounds fantastic on the album and amazing on our previous hits as well. From the moment I first heard him play and sing, I thought, 'Wow… This just got real interesting.'"

The first single from "Ånomåly" , "Hård" (the first song in the teaser),will be released on July 9, 2021 via Moon Chair Media / ONErpm and will introduce Corsale to fans eagerly awaiting this new music, also marking a new era for the iconic band.

Just before the turn-of-the-century, FUEL quietly emerged with a melodic brand of hard rock rooted in eloquent songwriting and heavy guitars. 1998's "Sunburn" not only went platinum, but it also yielded enduring anthems such as "Shimmer" and "Bittersweet" . Its 2001 follow-up, "Something Like Human" , earned a double-platinum certification and elevated them to arenas. The lead single "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" would reach No. 1 for 13 weeks and would even become the No. 6 Alternative Rock song of the past 25 years, according to Billboard 's Alternative chart 25th anniversary: Top 100 Songs, making it "one of the Top Ten most-listened to alternative rock songs for the past 30 years." Their music appeared everywhere from "Prison Break" , "Daredevil" and "Scream 3" to WWE pay-per-view events. 2003's "Natural Selection" bowed in the Top 15 of the Billboard 200 and garnered a Grammy Award nomination in the category of "Best Engineered Album. Non-Classical." Their catalog continued to resound throughout popular culture as well. DAUGHTRY famously covered "Hemorrhage" on "American Idol" , while modern platinum rock juggernaut RED also released their own rendition, and HANDS LIKE HOUSES notably performed "Shimmer" on Triple J in Australia.

A fuel is any material that can be made to react with other substances so that it releases energy as heat energy or to be used for work. The concept was originally applied solely to those materials capable of releasing chemical energy but has since also been applied to other sources of heat energy such as nuclear energy (via nuclear fission and nuclear fusion).

The heat energy released by reactions of fuels is converted into mechanical energy via a heat engine. Other times the heat itself is valued for warmth, cooking, or industrial processes, as well as the illumination that comes with combustion. Fuels are also used in the cells of organisms in a process known as cellular respiration, where organic molecules are oxidized to release usable energy. Hydrocarbons and related oxygen-containing molecules are by far the most common source of fuel used by humans, but other substances, including radioactive metals, are also utilized.

Fuels are contrasted with other substances or devices storing potential energy, such as those that directly release electrical energy (such as batteries and capacitors) or mechanical energy (such as flywheels, springs, compressed air, or water in a reservoir).
