How to dress up for Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester

Dressing appropriately for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester is essential to ensure your comfort and enjoyment throughout the day. Here are some tips on how to dress for this type of excursion:

Comfortable Footwear

Chester’s streets can be uneven, and you’ll likely be doing some walking as you hop on and off the bus to explore attractions.

Opt for comfortable walking shoes or sneakers with good arch support. Avoid high heels or uncomfortable sandals that may leave you with sore feet.

Weather-Appropriate Clothing

Chester’s weather can vary, so it’s crucial to check the forecast before your tour. Dress in layers if the weather is unpredictable.

Bring a lightweight jacket or sweater, even in summer, as it can get cooler on the open-top bus. In colder months, consider a heavier coat.

Sun Protection

If you’re taking the open-top bus on a sunny day, be sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. This is especially important if you plan to sit on the top deck, as you’ll be exposed to direct sunlight.

Bring a compact, portable umbrella and a waterproof jacket or poncho in case of rain. While some buses have a covered top deck, you may still be exposed to rain and wind.

Comfortable Clothing

Wear clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably. Loose-fitting clothing, like a casual dress or comfortable pants, is a good choice. Avoid tight or restrictive clothing.

Backpack or Bag

A small backpack or crossbody bag is handy for carrying essentials like your camera, water bottle, snacks, and any items you purchase during your tour. Ensure it’s secure and won’t swing around as the bus moves.

Camera and Smartphone

Don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the beautiful sights along the way. Make sure you have enough storage space for photos and a portable charger if needed.

Identification and Tickets

Keep your identification and tour tickets in a safe and easily accessible place, like a zippered pocket or a secure section of your bag.

Respect Local Customs

Chester is a relatively conservative city, so it’s a good idea to dress modestly. Avoid overly revealing clothing or offensive slogans on t-shirts.

Consider the Season

The time of year will influence your clothing choices. In spring and summer, light and breathable fabrics are suitable, while fall and winter may require warmer attire.

Best time for Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Chester Tour

The best time for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester depends on your preferences and the experience you seek.

Spring (March to May) offers milder weather and blooming gardens, with fewer crowds than summer.

Summer (June to August) brings pleasant weather but more tourists, so consider morning or evening tours. Early autumn (September) boasts pleasant weather and colorful foliage.

Winter (December to February) offers a charming holiday atmosphere, despite the chill. Weekdays are usually less crowded than weekends. Check the weather forecast for an enjoyable experience.

Opt for early tours to beat the crowds or evening tours for a unique perspective on the city. Chester’s Hop-On Hop-Off tours offer a delightful experience year-round.

Review: The Big Bus Tour in New York City

I absolutely loved the Big Bus Tour in New York City. It’s the best way to go sightseeing in an open-top, hop-on hop-off, top-rated tour and explore the best New York attractions !

If this is your first-time visiting New York and you want to see all the top landmarks, this double-decker tour bus will take you there.

The Big Bus Tour in New York

You may be wondering if a hop-on hop-off bus is worth it. Absolutely, yes!

If you consider the time and money spent on transportation costs, waiting for buses, navigating the subway (which can be confusing for visitors), and getting from one point of interest to another, it is worth every dollar!

I had a great visit to New York City on Big Bus Tour. My goal was to show the city to some friends from Italy who were visiting the US for the first time.

Since we only had about two days to spend together, the hop-on hop-off was undoubtedly the best decision.

From our experience, we’ll answer commonly asked questions about the Hop-on Hop-off bus while visiting New York City.

Google Reviews

Why take the big bus tour in new york.

While seeing New York from the open-top deck of the double-decker bus, the city unfolded block by block with panoramic views from every angle.

As we traveled through the streets, the sights were unobstructed and new visual backdrops were revealed.

The towering skyscrapers and colorful billboards filled the air with excitement and as the cityscape continued to change, it gave a grand feeling to the experience.

I especially enjoyed being able to relax from the upper deck of the bus while taking in the energy of city scenes.

Because I also live in a large city, the rhythm felt familiar from the elevated vantage point .

Car horns were honking, crowds traversed through the streets and there was an endless hum of activity.

Best of all, the tour gave me the chance to interact with other travelers who were seeing New York while waiting for the tour to began.

We struck up conversations and exchanged stories, insights, and recommendations during our stay in New York.

How Much is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The regular price of an adult and child ticket is $60.00 and $50.00, respectively. However, you can use the link below for discounted fares.

Get discounts for the Big Bus Tour NYC  here .

How Long is the Big Bus Tour in New York

The round-trip New York City Big Bus Tour takes about two hours from start to finish.

The bus is the perfect solution for visitors worldwide because they offer pre-recorded audio narratives and translations in five languages — French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English.

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

No. Unlike charter buses, you won’t travel long between stops. So the best thing to do is exit at a stop, find a public restroom, see an attraction, if desired, and then catch the next bus.

If you are not sure where to find one, ask a Big Bus guide on the street. The driver may also have some suggestions.

Charter buses come equipped with a bathroom because travel is expected to be for a much longer period.

How Does the Big Bus Tour Work in New York City

The tour offers three options for purchase — 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day.

When you decide the number of days of your tour and purchase your ticket, the clock starts when your ticket is scanned while boarding the bus for the first time.

The ticket is good for 24, 48, or 72 hours. So, if you have a 1-day ticket and board the bus at 11:00 AM on Monday, it can still be used until 11:00 AM on Tuesday.

We found a ton of touring options for sightseeing in New York.

Aside from the extended period, the 2 and 3-day tickets also offer discounted bike rentals.

The buses run every 20 minutes on average. However, the first stop at the M&M store can be a long wait during peak season.

You can exit or board at any of the designated stops as much as you want.

The only exclusion is the one-loop tour Night Tour which is a panoramic non-stop tour.

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in New York City

During the tour, the buses only stop at designated stops.

Your ticket is good for as long as the buses operate during the day and it may be used on both the red and blue routes.

When you board, make sure you get a hop-on hop-off New York bus route map!

Big Bus NYC Red Route

The red route sightseeing tour covers lower Manhattan and you’ll see many landmarks like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Wall Street, the Chrysler Building, and General Grant’s Tomb.

You can catch a tour at any one of the following bus stops and you can get your tickets in advance of boarding.

1 – M&M’s World – 7th Ave & W 48th St (Outside M&M World & Majestic Deli)

2 – Times Square East – W 42nd St & Broadway (at Knickerbocker Hotel)

3 – Empire State Building / Korea Town – 5th Ave & W 32nd St (at CVS Pharmacy)

4 – Flatiron District – 5th Ave & W 23rd St (at Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop)

5 – SoHo – Broadway and Spring Street (at Nike Store)

6 – Chinatown / Little Italy – 100 Lafayette Street (near the corner at Walker St)

7 – Brooklyn Bridge – Park Row & Beekman St (across from 33 Park Row)

8 – Wall Street / Charging Bull – Broadway & Wall St (Southwest corner near Rector St)

9 – Statue of Liberty / Battery Park – State St and Bridge St (at Subway Entrance)

10 – Circle Line Sightseeing – 12th Ave & 40th St (opposite Pier 81)

11 – Times Square North – 7th Ave & W 50th St (at Majestic Deli)

Big Bus NYC Blue Route

The blue route covers upper Manhattan, and half of the ride is mostly views of Central Park. You can switch to the blue route at red stop #2.

We recommend changing routes at stop #11 (the Majestic Deli) where you can take a break and have a nice lunch.

12 – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – 5th Ave & E 83rd St (near 83rd St)

13 – Central Park Zoo – 5th Ave & E 66th St (opposite 845 5th Ave)

14 – Columbus Circle – Central Park & Columbus Circle (SW corner of Central Park)

Tips and Things to Know Before You Go

The bus has two levels, the upper level offers panoramic views of the city but be careful of overhanging traffic lights and trees. Don’t stand while the bus is in motion.

  • After you find a seat, check the audio to confirm it is working.
  • Snacks are allowed. Bring a frozen bottle of water and protein bites to keep you energized.
  • When on the upper deck, cover up with sunscreen to protect your skin on hot sunny days.
  • If you are a family of 3 or more, take seats across from one another so you’ll have views and photos from both sides of the bus.

Tourists were lined up at stop #1 at least an hour before departure and the line extended the entire block and rounded the corner.

We decided to see other points of interest and returned around 11:00 AM.

The wait to board the bus was about 20 minutes. It was a relaxing ride and there we saw so much!

By the time we reached stop #9, we were pumped and ready to exit the bus so that we could explore the city! And you probably will be too.

Here’s the secret sauce that really made the experience memorable. Exit at stop #9 and take a FREE ferry to Staten Island.

To see the Statue of Liberty, stand on the left side of the boat. When returning, stand on the right side.

Traveling on a budget? Read my review of the Westside YMCA Hotel !

Final Thoughts About the Big Bus Tour in New York City

Overall, the tour was a pleasant way to see New York city and when you are on the upper deck, you hardly notice the traffic.

Some other advantages of seeing the city by bus include:

  • Avoiding parking hassles. I mean, who actually drives in New York?!
  • Photo opportunities. With the open-top or large windows, you have excellent photo opportunities as you pass by iconic landmarks and cityscapes.
  • Comprehensive sightseeing of major landmarks and attractions within two hours.
  • You can get local recommendations from the guides who operate the bus.

I usually opt for a hop-on hop-off bus when I am short on time or to get my bearings in the city before deciding what to do.

Either way, when you take the tour bus, it doesn’t appear impossible to take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Happy Travels!

People participate in a tour from the Chicago Workers Cottage Initiative.

Summertime doesn’t have to mean taking a break from learning. Here are some of the best walking tours for taking in Chicago history, including a jaunt from the Chicago Workers Cottage Initiative.

Tom Vlodek/Chicago Workers Cottage Initiative

These 5 Chicago history tours will show you a different slice of the city

This summer, brush up on your local history with tours that highlight everything from architectural styles to underground critters..

In a city with a history as rich as Chicago’s, summertime is full of opportunity to explore outside your neighborhood, fire up your kids’ summer brains or simply try something different.

This list presents you with options.

Head underground … and watch for rats

Why go on a walking tour that openly plugs rats? Because those critters own this city just as much as we do. For proof — and to earn a new appreciation for our fellow citydwellers — sign up for local tour guide Mike McMains’s “ Underground Chicago (Plus Rats!) Tour ,” a 90-minute exploration of the city under the city. Departing from the Mag Mile and quickly descending into the lower regions and underbelly of the city, it’s an educational way to learn something new about Chicago, entertain guests hankering for a tour or simply avoid the hot summer sun. $30, 90 minutes, tourswithmike.com .

Stroll the Jaffee History Trail

If you haven’t taken the time to explore the Jaffee History Trail , which opened in 2021 just east of the Chicago History Museum, put it on your list. Encompassing 4.5 acres of landscaped grounds planted with native pollinators, the little trail features eight informative stops with representations of the city’s history — from the giant hunk of metal discovered in the museum’s back yard to the infamous Couch Tomb. Most locals know Auburn Gresham–based historian Sherman “Dilla” Thomas from his viral TikTok videos proving “everything dope about America comes from Chicago.” But have you ever taken one of his neighborhood tours ? Learn about a seminal architectural style

If you pay any attention to residential buildings in older parts of town, you may be familiar with the typical workers cottage: small, 1½-story homes built for working-class families between the 1880s and 1919. Across the city, there are nearly 60,000 of these homes, but they’re rapidly being demolished. Enter the Chicago Workers Cottage Initiative , a small group who organized in 2021 to celebrate these little houses and preserve them from demolition. During the warmer months, the group occasionally leads informative, intimate tours of neighborhoods with a lot of workers cottages such as McKinley Park and Logan Square . Dig into the city’s love affair with film

Yes, we know about the Art Institute’s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tour — but this one’s better. “ From Fairgrounds to Film Set: Chicago’s Midway, Movies, and the 1893 World’s Fair ” starts from the Midway Plaisance, whose ties go back to the World’s Fair, then winds along the tree-lined streets of Hyde Park to showcase five stops tied to the movies. It’s worth your time just to stroll through the leafy University of Chicago campus, and you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for our city’s role in the film industry. $29.99, 75 minutes; chicagomovietours.com .

chester city tour bus

Fourth of July celebrations will deliver their annual dose of chaos to downtown D.C. on Thursday as roads, bridges and other areas close and transit options change.

Around noon, the National Independence Day Parade will bring a procession of bands, floats, military and specialty units, and celebrities that will block a stretch of Constitution Avenue NW. Thousands will fill the National Mall in the evening to watch the annual fireworks display , which the National Park Service claims will be “one of the most spectacular in recent memory."

Here’s what you need to know to get around D.C. on Thursday.

Metro rides will be free after 5 p.m. Thursday

Thousands will inundate Metrorail stations as they head to the Mall for Fourth of July festivities. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, the Metro will offer free rides on all rail and bus lines and on paratransit services. Parking in Metro-owned garages and lots will also be free.

The waived fares will be in effect until midnight, when the rail system closes. Metrorail fare gates will be open and riders will not need SmarTrip cards to use the transit system.

Metro is increasing service on some rail lines all day to relieve congestion. The Red Line — along which four stations are shuttered for summer construction — will offer trains every six minutes. Other train lines will operate on normal schedules until 5 p.m. Then trains on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines will arrive every 10 minutes, and trains on the Green and Yellow lines will operate every six minutes.

The agency warns that the Smithsonian Metrorail station could become overcrowded after fireworks end, and suggests riders use nearby stations, including Metro Center, Federal Triangle, Archives, Gallery Place and Union Station. The Foggy Bottom station, which is also nearby, could become “entry only” after the fireworks to prevent congestion. The Arlington Cemetery station, another alternative to the Smithsonian station, will be open until midnight.

Metrobus riders who use the following lines should consider using Metrorail instead, as the buses will travel through tough-to-navigate routes that could cause delays on Thursday: 16E, 38B, 33, 32, 36, 42, 43, 52, 64, 70, 74, 79, 90, 92, G12, G14, P6, S2 and X2.

Access to the Mall

There will be four public entry points for visitors on foot directly to the Mall, open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.:

  • 17th Street SW, just south of the World War II Memorial
  • 15th Street NW at Madison Drive NW
  • 15th Street SW at Jefferson Drive SW
  • Constitution Avenue NW between 23rd Street NW and Henry Bacon Drive NW

Two other access points do not lead directly onto the Mall:

  • East Basin Drive at Inlet Bridge, west of the Jefferson Memorial
  • West side of Arlington Memorial Bridge

Fireworks can also be viewed from these locations along George Washington Memorial Parkway:

  • The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the Netherlands Carillon
  • Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on Lady Bird Johnson Park (Access to the Potomac riverfront is possible via the bike/pedestrian tunnel that runs underneath the Boundary Channel Bridge, a.k.a. the “Humpback Bridge”)
  • Gravelly Point, north of Reagan National Airport
  • Washington Sailing Marina at Daingerfield Island

Road closures

The following roads will be closed from 4 a.m. Thursday to around midnight, according to the National Park Service :

  • Arlington Memorial Bridge and Arlington Memorial Circle, to and including Lincoln Memorial Circle
  • Rock Creek Parkway south of Virginia Avenue NW to Lincoln Memorial Circle, including all approaches and ramps
  • Parkway Drive from Rock Creek Parkway to Lincoln Memorial Circle

  • East Basin Drive SW east of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial to Ohio Drive SW
  • West Basin Drive SW from Ohio Drive SW to Independence Avenue SW

  • The ramp from northbound Virginia Route 110 to Memorial Avenue

The following routes are closed from Thursday at 3 p.m. to around midnight:

  • Southbound and northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway ramp to 14th Street Bridge

Concurrently, the District will close several streets for parades across the city:

  • MacArthur Boulevard from Whitehaven Parkway to Arizona Avenue NW
  • Edmunds Place from Sherier Place to MacArthur Boulevard NW

  • Maple Street NW from Carroll Street NW to the D.C.-Maryland border

The Third Street Tunnel will remain open for travel into and out of the city.

Site closures

The following sites will be closed or operate with alternate hours over the Fourth of July:

  • The National Mall will be closed between 14th Street and the Lincoln Memorial from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday for a security sweep. Visitors who enter the area after 1 p.m. will be screened.
  • The Lincoln Memorial, including the steps and access ramp, will be closed on Thursday.
  • The Washington Monument will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen at 9 a.m. Friday.
  • Access to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial will be limited after 8 p.m. The memorial will remain open, but the public will not be able to access it from Independence Avenue after 8 p.m. Access will be available from West Basin and Ohio drives.
  • The World War II Memorial will close at 4 p.m. Thursday. Cleanup of the memorial will begin immediately following the fireworks show, and the site will open after the cleanup is complete.
  • Paddle boats at the Tidal Basin will not operate Thursday.
  • Big Bus Tours will not operate on the Mall on Thursday.
  • The D.C. Circulator’s National Mall route will not operate Thursday.
