Full List: Fort Lauderdale Park & Cruise Hotels Near Port Everglades

When it comes to cruising, the cost of parking often catches people by surprise. For instance, the cost of parking at the Port Everglades cruise port in Fort Lauderdale runs $20 per day . On a 7-day trip, you’re spending $140 on parking alone before you even step onto the ship.

Best Western Fort Lauderdale

But here’s a money-saving tip: If you are staying in the area the night before your cruise, many hotels have special parking offers. You stay with them for one night and they will let you park your car for the length of your cruise.

This parking is much cheaper than parking at the port, plus many hotels will provide you with a shuttle to the cruise port. Often the cost of parking runs just $5-10 per day, instead of the $20 charged at the port.

Now, if you weren’t already planning to stay near the port the night before your trip, then what you save on parking is not worth the extra expense of the hotel room. However, there’s no doubt that staying in a Fort Lauderdale hotel with cruise parking can save you some serious cash.

That’s why we called dozens of hotels located near the port to ask about their parking deals. We have all the details below.

Click the hotel name to read reviews and see pricing on Kayak.com. For locations with parking packages, you may have to book directly through the hotel. Most hotels you can just let them know at check-in that you’d like to leave your car there.

Cambria Hotel & Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport South & Cruise Port Cambria sits in a cluster of several mid-priced hotels just off of I-95, but still secluded from the freeway. It’s among the highest-rated hotels on our list, with an average rating of 4.5 out of five. There are a number of chain stores and hotels nearby and you are only a few minutes from the airport. Parking is $10 per day while you cruise (much cheaper than parking at the port). Simply let the front desk know when you arrive. There is also a shuttle to Port Everglades.

Comfort Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport South Another mid-range hotel, this is a good option for those who want to stay near the airport without breaking the budget. Parking costs $15 per day according to the front desk when we called. There is a shuttle to Port Everglades for extra. Getting back to the hotel you’ll need to arrange your own ride, but a quick Uber/Lyft trip won’t cost that much.

  • Distance to Port: 7 miles

Best Western Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port Staying here offers a discount off parking at the port, at just $10 per day while you are on your cruise. It’s then a $15 per person shuttle to Port Everglades. The location is convenient and the hotel is priced affordably for Fort Lauderdale. You won’t be at the beach, but still in a nice area that’s only 10-15 minutes from the cruise port.

SpringHill Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port Located in a cluster of similar-level hotels, SpringHill offers suites for those needing a little more space. The best news is that parking costs $5 per day . Considering that you save $15 a day off of cruise port parking, that means you’re pocketing $105 in savings during a weeklong cruise. You’re also only about 10-15 minutes from the ships at Port Everglades.

  • Distance to Port: 5 miles

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport South Perhaps the easiest hotel to get to if you are coming from the airport, the Holiday Inn Express is a straight shot south on Highway 1 in Dania Beach. The area is busy, and parking is in a garage. Parking costs $10 per day with an $15 shuttle to the cruise port. Your ride to the ships should only take about 10 minutes on the day of your cruise.

Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port One of the best deals in Fort Lauderdale hotels with cruise parking, this hotel offers parking that costs just $10 per night , along with a $20 per person ride to the cruise port (or you can take an Uber/Lyft). Homewood Suites Fort Lauderdale

Homewood Suites by Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port Easy access to I-95, yet not right on the freeway, Homewood Suites offers a nice place to stay with easy access to get around the city and to the port. Parking and shuttle are included when booking parking package on the hotel’s website (look for the “Fort Lauderdale Cruise Package”). There are also a number of nearby spots to grab a bite to eat and a relatively easy ride to your ship on cruise day.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise The Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites (below) share a parking lot, so if one is booked up or more expensive, then you should definitely try the other. They are in a prime location convenient to both the airport and the cruise port. You can simply pay $10 per day for parking and $15 per person for a shuttle. All you have to do is let the front desk know at check-in that you want to park.

Candlewood Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise We consider the Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites to be sister properties. They sit right next to each other and offer many of the same amenities. The hotel features the same $10 per day rate for guests who want to leave their car while they cruise. There is also a ride over to the cruise port for $15 per person. For an affordable price you can get a comfortable stay only a few minutes from Port Everglades.

Extended Stay America – Fort Lauderdale – Convention Center – Cruise Port A nice mix of convenience and budget (assuming you catch them during an off-peak time of year), the Extended Stay is within a decent walk of the cruise port. A call to the hotel told us that parking is just $7 a night while you cruise for guests who stay a night. Compare that to the port at $20 per night, even though it is close to this hotel.

  • Distance to Port: 0.5 miles

Hotel Dello Fort Lauderdale Airport Sitting on Highway 1 due south of the airport, it’s a straight shot from Hotel Dello out to the beach, and just about 10 minutes out to the cruise ships. They offer a third-party shuttle for $15 per person.

Rodeway Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port The Rodeway Inn & Suites might not impress the folks at your next cocktail party, but it’s a solid choice to stay before your cruise. The cruise port is a straight shot down Marina Mile Boulevard from the hotel.

There is also a shuttle over to the port for $15 per person.

  • Distance to Port: 6 miles

Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port Fairfield offers a “Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Transportation” package . This deal offers a ride to Port Everglades, plus parking for up to 7 days. In our search, it was only about $70 more than the base rate — a big savings over parking at the port. Parking is also offered at the hotel through TropicalAirportParking.com at $8.45 per day.

Hilton Garden Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport-Cruise Port Set back from the street and surrounded by trees, this hotel gives it a bit of a secluded feeling. Those closest to the port with parking include:

  • Candlewood Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise
  • Extended Stay America – Fort Lauderdale – Convention Center – Cruise Port

Which Fort Lauderdale hotels offer free or included parking? Free parking is a rarity in Fort Lauderdale. In our search, hotels near the airport and cruise port either have parking packages (which are priced higher than the regular room rate) or charge a flat daily fee for parking.

After the cruise now do you get back to a hotel where you have left your car for the week ?

You can take an Uber/Lyft or a taxi.

Hello, Are there any hotels in Fort Lauderdale with extended parking that provide shuttles to Miami international airport? … We are flying to Europe from MIA to cruise transatlantic into Fort Lauderdale. Thanks

Not that we know of. If traveling to the Miami airport, your best bet is to use Uber or Lyft. As for parking, there are a number of hotels that have parking for you but you’ll need to arrange your transportation to the airport.

Some of the links are directing correctly. Such as the Holiday Inn Express cruise port location. It seems to be going to tripadvisor Hampton Inn instead. FYI

Fixed. Thanks!

Two years ago is was free to park at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise. My husband and I just called the hotel front desk this evening and they are currently not offering any parking until February-ish of 2018, when their parking garage is predicted to be complete. Parking will then be $10/day.

Where did you parked, and how much cost, if you don’t mind please. Thanks and God bless!

Look for three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and plenty of Caribbean sailings ranging from five to 21 nights on some of the world's hottest ships such as Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex; Holland America's Nieuw Statendam; Sky Princess ; Carnival Sunrise ; Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas; and Silversea's Silver Moon. There's also a wide range of sailings to Mexico and the Panama Canal from the port.

In addition to the cruise lines that make Port Everglades home, the fast ferry Balearia Caribbean transports passengers from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island.

Note that Port Everglades does not offer wheelchair service. If you need a wheelchair from the curb to ship, or parking lot to ship, contact your cruise line to make arrangements.

Disembarking from Port Everglades is also a breeze since it participates in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Global Entry program . Be sure to pack your Global Entry card and you'll zip through the immigration process so you can quickly make your way to the airport or your hotel.

Nearest airports

Port Everglades, the only U.S. cruise port adjacent to an international airport, is easily accessible and just 10 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest, Spirit and United all fly here from gateways across the U.S.

Farther away but still accessible are Miami International, just under 30 miles south, and Palm Beach International (PBI), which is 50 miles north. If you're traveling to Miami, look for flights on American, Delta, Frontier, Sun Country and United. From Palm Beach, fly Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southern Airways Express, Southwest, Spirit and United.

No matter which airport you pick, you can leverage airline programs to save money on airfare. Headed to MIA? Two airlines -- Alaska and Delta -- offer companion certificates as perks of their cobranded credit cards. Get the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card and receive a companion certificate on the card's anniversary. The certificate allows a companion to fly with you for $121 ($99 fare and the cost of taxes from $22). And, several Delta credit cards offer a similar companion certificate . Finally, you can bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass .

If you're flying to MIA or PBI instead and are a member of Frontier's Discount Den , look for Friends Fly Free and Kids Fly Free offers, which the airline sells periodically. You can also check American's Reduced Mileage Awards to see if FLL, MIA or PBI are on the current list, and watch for JetBlue flash sales.

As your packing for your trip, don't forget to bring any credit cards that confer lounge benefits. For example, while FLL doesn't have a Priority Pass lounge, it does offer a credit at Kafe Kalik in Terminal 4. Your Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card come with a Priority Pass membership (enrollment required) — as do many other credit cards .

The information for the Hilton Aspire Amex card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

If you carry The Platinum Card® from American Express, you have access to the Delta Sky Club at FLL, MIA and PBI.

How to get to the port

Cruise line transfers.

Many times, it makes sense to buy the cruise line's bus transfer from the airport to port and vice versa. Flying into FLL isn't one of those times. The airport is so close to Port Everglades -- a 10-minute drive -- that it makes sense to simply grab a taxi or Uber. It will cost less, and you won't need to wait around as the cruise line fills the bus with passengers.

If you're flying into MIA, however, which is about an hour's drive to Port Everglades, you should price out the cruise line's transfer option and see what's a better deal.

Hotel shuttles

If you plan to spend the night in Fort Lauderdale before your cruise, look for a hotel that offers a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel as well as a free or paid shuttle from the hotel to the cruise port the next morning. These three points properties fit that bill:

  • Hampton Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport/South Cruise Port has a free airport shuttle and paid shuttle to the cruise terminal. Rooms range from 26,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
  • SpringHill Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port has a free airport shuttle and a $10 one-way shuttle to the cruise terminal. Rates start at 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night on standard dates.
  • Ramada Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port has a free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to Port Everglades. Rooms start from 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night.

Independent van and car services

There are several van services from FLL, too. GO Airport Shuttle costs $11 per person to Port Everglades, and vans hold a maximum of 10 people. Alternatively, you can book a luxury sedan seating up to four through GO Airport Shuttle for $40 per person.

Metro Shuttle Service costs $8 to $15 per person for the ride from FLL to Port Everglades, depending on the number of people in your group. The more people on your reservation, the lower your per person rate.

Taxi and ride-hailing services

The average one-way metered taxi fare from FLL to Port Everglades is between $15 and $17. The fee jumps to $75 if you're taking a taxi from MIA and it's $130 to $160 for a taxi ride from PBI, which is about an hour from the port. Most cabs accept credit cards, but always ask before getting in.

Uber and Lyft also serve FLL, MIA and PBI. The average rate from FLL to Port Everglades is between $10 and $15.

Public transportation

While there are public buses in Fort Lauderdale, there's no easy or convenient way to transit from the airport to the port.

Port parking

Port Everglades offers secure, well-lit parking in two garages and three gated surface lots with patrols. You can park your car within walking distance of nearly all the terminals. Cruise terminals 2 and 4 share the 2,500-space Northport Garage, though a new 1,888-space parking garage is under construction to serve both terminals. Terminals 18 and 19 each have their own surface lots named after them; the Terminal 19 Parking Lot is shared between the two. Four terminals -- cruise terminals 19, 21, 25 and 29 -- share the 2,000-space Midport Garage, but only cruise terminal 29 has a complimentary shuttle service between the parking spots and terminal.

Fort Lauderdale Port Everglades cruise terminal

There's a $15 daily maximum charge for standard vehicles, while oversized vehicles that exceed the width and/or height of a parking space (think: RVs) have a $19 daily maximum fee.

Port Everglades also provides parking for people with disabilities with unimpeded access to crosswalks and elevators. Parking is free for anyone who:

  • has a Florida Toll Exemption Permit
  • drives a vehicle modified with specialized equipment, such as ramps, lifts or foot/hand controls
  • displays the Florida "DV" license plate -- Disabled Veteran -- or an equivalent license plate from another state

Where to stay near the port

Fort Lauderdale is a major vacation destination in its own right, so there are plenty of hotels from which to choose. There are a lot of points hotels -- close to the port, near the beaches and at the airport -- as well as other boutique-style and luxury resorts. Here are some of our favorite places to stay before after a cruise.

Hotels closest to the port

Several good points properties are less than a 10-minute drive from Port Everglades. They include:

Crowne Plaza Fort Lauderdale (455 FL-84): Book a room from 20,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night (1.9 miles from the port).

Holiday Inn Express Fort Lauderdale Cruise-Airport (1500 SE 17th Street Causeway): Rooms are available from 15,000 IHG points per night (1.9 miles from the port).

Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port (1851 SE 10th Avenue): This is one of the most popular pre-cruise hotels with travelers who often book cruise itineraries embarking from Port Everglades. Rooms are available from 12,000 World of Hyatt points per night. Don't forget, you can also transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to your Hyatt account on a 1:1 basis. (2.3 miles from the port).

Stay on the cheap

These hotels are also less than 10 minutes from the port but are a great value -- on both points and in cash -- most nights of the year. Be sure to price out both the cash and points price to find the best value. During certain times of the year, the cash prices are so low, it simply doesn't make sense to spend your hard-earned points.

Four Points by Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port (1800 South Federal Highway): Get a room from 35,000 points per night on standard dates or use a 35,000-point award night certificate like the one you'll get on the anniversary of the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card. Just note that, depending on the season, cash prices may be a better value. (2.4 miles from the port)

Embassy Suites by Hilton Fort Lauderdale 17th Street (1100 SE 17th Street): Spend between 33,000 and 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night (2.5 miles from the port).

Ramada by Wyndham Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port (2275 W SR 84, Marina Mile Boulevard): Rooms from 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night (4.1 miles from the port).

Full-service hotels

Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina (1881 SE 17th Street): Stay here for between 27,000 and 60,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port (1617 SE 17th Street): This Category 5 Marriott property that costs 35,000 points per night on standard dates (or use a 35,000-point award night certificate).

Luxury hotels

If you'd prefer staying at a luxury property, look to the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach (available from 66,000 to 95,0000 Hilton Honors points per night); The Pillars Hotel , which you can book with your Chase Ultimate Rewards points; or The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale (a Marriott Category 7 property available from 50,000 points per night on off-peak dates or using a 50,000-point award night certificate).

Where to shop near the port

Within Port Everglades, you'll find Seafarers' House. Its mission is simple: to be a "welcoming place where mariners can connect with their communities and families, seek guidance and get emergency help if needed."

While the 4,200-square-foot facility is designed to provide services to crewmembers, cruisers are also welcome. You can shop at the on-site convenience shop, access free Wi-Fi and visit the chapel.

If Seafarers' House doesn't have what you need before embarkation, there's a CVS at 1700 Federal Highway, about a 10-minute drive from port and close to the hotels we mentioned above. There's also a Publix grocery store (1940 Cordova Road) and Total Wine (1906 Cordova Road) in that area in the Harbor Shops plaza.

Where to eat

Fort Lauderdale is a cosmopolitan city with all types of restaurants, from casual diners to fine dining. You can find everything from Southern comfort food and local seafood dishes to Caribbean and Latin American cuisines, Asian fusion and more.

If you arrive at FLL early in the morning and need breakfast before heading to the port, try The Floridian Diner (1410 East Las Olas Boulevard). Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you can order your favorite egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, breakfast wraps and more. At dinnertime, they serve pork chops, country-fried steak, St. Louis ribs and fried chicken, among other hearty plates.

Lester's Diner (250 FL-84), just 10 mins from Port Everglades, is another favorite spot for all-day and all-night dining. It's been in business for more than 40 years and is a terrific place for a quintessential diner breakfast. Try the breakfast skillets, Belgian waffles and omelets. At lunch and dinner, order Greek and Italian specialties as well as burgers, deli-style sandwiches and roast chicken.

Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor & Restaurant (128 S Federal Hwy, Dania Beach) makes its frozen dairy treats on-site every day from fresh ingredients. Pick your favorite flavor and then take a look at the largest collection of rural American memorabilia in the country. This local legend is about 15 minutes from the port.

Tom Jenkins' Bar-B-Q (1236 S. Federal Highway, about 10 minutes from port) is a Southern-style restaurant known for its ribs and barbecue sauce. If you don't have time to taste its classic soul food dishes, you can still take home a bottle of its famous barbecue sauce.

Seafood restaurants abound, leading among them is 15th Street Fisheries at the Lauderdale Marina (1900 SE 15th Street), with amazing waterfront views. Other popular spots include the Rustic Inn Crabhouse (4331 Anglers Avenue) and Islamorada Fish Company (220 Gulf Stream Way, Dania Beach). All of these restaurants are within a 20-minute drive from the port.

For brew fans, the Ale Trail awaits. Greater Fort Lauderdale's thriving beer culture encompasses many nano- and micro-breweries that offer over 500 beers. How about a Hefeweizen made with Florida-grown mangos? New to the Ale Trail are 3 Sons Brewing Co. in Dania Beach as well as American Icon Brewery Kitchen and Taproom, Sistrunk Marketplace and Brewery and Dangerous Minds Brewing Company, all in Fort Lauderdale.

TPG also reached out to a local and cruise industry insider -- Mark Conroy, managing director of the Americas for Silversea Cruises and a Broward County resident -- to get his take on the best places to eat in Fort Lauderdale. He singled out Rainbow Palace (2787 E Oakland Park Boulevard) for "the best Chinese meal in South Florida." He said it's "not inexpensive" but serves "great food," adding, "It tastes like you are in Hong Kong, not Fort Lauderdale."

He also suggests Fort Lauderdale's Greek Islands Taverna (3300 N Ocean Boulevard) with "amazing flavors" and "reasonable prices." No reservations are taken, though, so visitors might have to go early and wait in line. "It's definitely worth the wait," Conroy promised.

Conroy also is a fan of Coconuts (429 Seabreeze Boulevard), on Route A1A adjacent to the Swimming Hall of Fame on Fort Lauderdale Beach. "It's a typical beachy seafood hang-out," he said, "with beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway with a casual, relaxed vibe."

Sights to see

There are plenty of things to see and do when in Fort Lauderdale. Here are a few of our favorite recommendations for cruise passengers passing through town.

Las Olas Boulevard

We love shopping along this 2.5-mile avenue that stretches from downtown Fort Lauderdale to the ocean. It's the city's premier shopping venue and the ideal place to stroll and people-watch. Just a few miles from Port Everglades, the promenade along New River features high-fashion boutiques, sidewalk cafes and bars, along with multiple art and entertainment venues and nearby attractions. If you're looking for somewhere to eat, you'll find a plethora of options here, including Greek, Peruvian, French, Italian, Mexican, Asian, Kosher and more.

The Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi, with multiple stops and commentary, provides easy access to the promenade. Other stops include the Hilton Marina and Convention Center, Beach Place and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Water Taxi tickets cost $28 for adults, $23 for seniors 65 and older and military personnel, and $14 for kids ages 5 to 11.

Sawgrass Mills

In Sunrise (12801 W. Sunrise Boulevard), this mall offers 350 name-brand outlets and value shops -- everything from Nike to Kate Spade to Gucci, Lululemon, Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger. There's also a movie and IMAX theater as well as a variety of restaurants. Paul Maison de Qualite and SushiGami are two of our favorites. The mall is a 25- to 35-minute drive from Port Everglades.

Dania Beach Ocean Park and Pier

Locals adore Dania Beach, a 20-minute drive from FLL or Port Everglades, because it's one of the least-crowded stretches of sand in the area. Yet, it even has a marina and pier from which you can fish. If you just want to enjoy the views, grab a bite to eat at Quarterdeck Restaurant (300 N. Beach Road, Dania Beach), which is right on the pier itself. At the beach, there's a playground, restrooms with showers and lifeguards on duty. You can also rent kayaks from area vendors.

Dania Beach Pier Fort Lauderdale Florida

Jungle Queen riverboat tours

A visit to the "Venice of America" won't be complete without taking a trip down its beautiful waterways lined with landmark homes. A local institution since 1938, Jungle Queen Riverboats (Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Boulevard) takes you on a 90-minute guided sightseeing tour up and down Fort Lauderdale's Intracoastal Waterway. The ship also offers a tour with dinner and show on a private island. (Tour tickets are about $24 for adults, $21 for seniors, $14 for children and free for infants.)

Museums and gardens

Historic home fans might tour Bonnet House Museum & Gardens (900 N. Birch Road; $20 for adults and $16 for kids ages 6 to 12) on Fort Lauderdale Beach or Historic Stranahan House Museum (335 SE 6th Avenue; $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and $7 for students), particularly lovely when it's decorated Victorian-style for the winter holidays.

Offering a robust "look back" into Fort Lauderdale's early days are several museum buildings of History Fort Lauderdale (231 Southwest Second Avenue; access to all three museums is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for students). Located in the former 1905-era New River Inn is the History Museum with exhibits covering prehistoric times through the modern era. The 1907-era Pioneer House Museum is set up with period furnishings, antique dolls and toys, much as it was back in the day, while the 1899 Schoolhouse Museum has period wooden desks and textbooks.

Hollywood Beach Boardwalk

This 2.5-mile promenade (101 S. Broadwalk) along the Atlantic Ocean is a wonderful place to stroll. The boardwalk connects three parks, 50 restaurants and dozens of shops. You can walk the boardwalk or rent a bike, and there are benches and public restrooms along the way.

Hollywood Beach Fort Lauderdale Florida

Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

Clocking in at 180 acres, the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park (3109 E, Sunrise Boulevard, between the Intracoastal Waterway and SR A1A) lets people leave the crowds of Fort Lauderdale behind for a more relaxed experience. Within the park, there's a concession stand where you can rent bikes, kayaks and book Segway tours. Or, just enjoy the walking trails at a leisurely pace. As you walk along the Intracoastal, keep your eyes peeled and you may spy manatees. There's also a Water Taxi stop here.

Bottom line

Fort Lauderdale is a vibrant vacation destination on its own, but it's also one of the easiest home ports for embarking on a cruise. Port Everglades is so close to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport; it's a breeze to make your way from your flight to ship. The array of cruise ships and itineraries available out of Port Everglades is also impressive, which is one reason why it's one of the most popular home ports in the state for Floridians driving to their cruise vacation. Check out upcoming cruise itineraries and see if it's the right embarkation port for you.

Cool Cruiser

We have a choice of Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina or Sonesta Fort Lauderdale beach.  The cruise will be in the Spring break period.  I prefer a room with a balcony which the Marina has and the Sonesta doesn't appear to have, but I get the impression the Sonesta would be quieter.  We would like to be within walking distance of shops, restaurants etc.  We like a sea view from our room.  Thanks.

10,000+ Club

At that time of year I would chose the HIlton.

The Sonesta is directly across the street (A1A) from the beach which is not where I would want to be during spring break.  Any other time of the year, the location isn't a problem.  During spring break the beach, the sidewalks, and the crosswalks are packed.  Locals avoid driving the beach stretch because it can take forever to make any forward progress due to jaywalkers.  Make sure you tell your driver not to take A1A to get to the hotel if you do chose it.   In many places - especially south of the Sonesta where the bars and restaurants are located - the sidewalks are mobbed.

The Hilton isn't located on the beach, it is within a block or two to one of the entrances to the port, and has plenty of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance even during spring break. It is also much closer to the airport and hence cheaper airport to hotel to port transportation.

I have to disagree with Capriccio.  Sorry.  I have been to the Sonesta numerous times; it is our hotel of choice whether cruising out of FLL or Miami, and when we do land vacations in FLL, we ALWAYS stay at the Sonesta.  It's about 1/2  mile from the Galleria Mall.  Primantis Pizza is around the corner and open damn near 24/7.  Awesome pizza, and very good and reasonable place for breakfast.  There is a liquor store about a block away, and also about 1/2 mile away is Blue Martini (bar/restaurant with live bands every day)  I have never encountered many young people at this hotel or on the beach across the street.  This is a much quieter area in FLL.  Service is fabulous at the Sonesta and all rooms are oceanview.  No balconies though. If you've never stayed, give it a shot.  I'll be there for a girls' vacation (leaving the hubbies home) from 9/15 - 9/18 this year and I will be there on 1/1/22 for one night with my husband before we get on the Radiance of the Seas on the 2nd.

I would chose the Sonesta the rest of the year but not during spring break.  We avoid the beach front every March because of the location (and the attendant crowds) not the hotel.

Like

Oh, one more thing.  If you decide you will definitely stay at the Sonesta, check prices on hotwire.  Pick 4 star in Fort Lauderdale Beach area.  If you see a hotel and it says it is .7 miles from the Galleria Mall, that hotel is the Sonesta.  I was able to book ours on hotwire for 1/1/23 for $265 night, plus taxes and resort fee, as opposed to the extremely high price of booking it on Sonesta's website directly.

Thank you.

Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport - South & Cruise Port

Is this a good place for just one night before a cruise? How far from port is it?

I had a cruise during Spring Break in 2018.   We stayed at Best Western Oceanside, 1180 Sea Breeze, FLL.  We took the trolley along the beach area.  It took us 2x times the normal time to travel along the water front.  The sidewalks were so crowded with college kids. Across the road, the restaurants were crowded with music blaring and kids dancing on tables.  Police were out in full force.

We keep saying, we were so glad our hotel was away from that area.  Our hotel was 100 yards from the beach and the beach was empty and quiet.

What are the actual dates of spring break?

22 minutes ago, delondin said: What are the actual dates of spring break?

College and university dates vary throughout the month.  Schools with kids between the ages of 5 to 18 usually have the week off before Easter (which is in April 17 next year) or sometimes the week after.

Its the college and university students who can be most disruptive.  The families with younger kids aren't disruptive but be aware that hotels jack up their prices for the before and after Easter weeks.

So our cruise is 13 March will this avoid the main break ?

I have no experience with this website aimed at students but it includes hundreds of US colleges and universities to give you an idea of spring break dates.  The table can be sorted by date. March 12 to March 19 looks like a very popular week.    https://www.studentcity.com/plan-a-trip/when-is-my-spring-break/

We have stayed at this hotel several times.  It is fine for a night pre-cruise.  It is clean and the staff has always been great.  We book through Valuetrips.com because they have discounts for this hotel.

It is a short ride, perhaps a mile or two at the most, from the port.

You talking about the same one? I looked at Valuetrips and they listed the one on 10th and this one is at  91 Southwest 18th Avenue ,   Dania Beach, Florida, United States, 33004

pooh/tigger is inquiring about the Hyatt Place in Dania Beach ( 91 SW 18th Ave and about 6 miles south of Port Everglades), not the Hyatt Place (1851 SE 10th Ave) off 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale.

I'm sorry as I am directionally challenged and the 10th St Hyatt Place is what I've seen as the cruise port Hyatt.  I've not stayed at the other one.  Thanks for correcting me.

Hi, it is quite likely March is in the middle of spring break......it can vary from state to state and university to university as well as high schools too.  I remember sailing during spring break once (stupid of me on my part)......not realizing there would be so many kids on board. If I sail in the spring now? It is not to the Caribbean anymore.

BlueHerons

I agree with Capriccio.  I would avoid the Sonesta mid February through mid April.  Spring break is packed on the beach.

Disney Cruise Line Joins Maritime Leaders to Host Career Day at Port Everglades

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  - More than 90 high school students learned about cruise and cargo operations at Port Everglades during National Maritime Month.

The marine industry is vital to U.S. commerce and responsible for 2.3 million jobs each year, according to the latest data from the Marine Economy Satellite Account. Over the course of two days, Broward County students in the Junior Achievement of South Florida Pre-Apprenticeship program learned about careers in the maritime industry during discussions with Disney Cruise Line cast and crew members, staff from Port Everglades Terminal LLC, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), and the president of the International Longshoremen's Association Local 1526.

The Junior Achievement of South Florida Pre-Apprenticeship is a six-month program designed to help young people ages 17 to 24 to build work-readiness skills and gain knowledge of trade industries.

The career day wasn't all talk. The students toured  Disney Magic  while it was docked and visited the cargo area where MSC/Port Everglades Terminal operates. Students gained insights from Disney Cruise Line shipboard crew members and officers in a range of areas, including human resources, guest services, and entertainment. Crew members shared details with students about their roles, life at sea and tips for pursuing a maritime career.

"The opportunities available in the maritime industry are diverse and high-paying," said Acting Port Director Glenn Wiltshire. "We appreciate the chance to share with the students the various career options available on land and at sea."

"It's especially fitting that during National Maritime Month we could share with the participants how we don't just move cargo but we power the local and global economies," said Rick Blackmore, CEO of Port Everglades Terminal, LLC.

The career day marked the first time Disney Cruise Line has partnered with the Junior Achievement of South Florida's maritime Pre-Apprenticeship program. Last year, in recognition of Disney's arrival to Port Everglades, the cruise line announced new community investments, including in Junior Achievement of South Florida, with donations supporting the JA Career Bound as well as other programs such as a special marine service technician track that educates students about the maritime industry, marine basics and engine fundamentals.

"Through our partnership with Junior Achievement of South Florida, and our support of their Pre-Apprenticeship program, we hope to inspire the next generation of maritime professionals," said Beth Thibodaux, Disney Cruise Line External Affairs Director.

About Port Everglades As one of Florida's leading economic generators, Broward County's Port Everglades is the gateway for international trade and cruise vacations. Consistently ranked among the top three busiest cruise homeports in the world, Port Everglades is also one of the nation's leading container ports and South Florida's main seaport for receiving energy products including gasoline, jet fuel and alternative fuels. The Port Everglades Department is a self-supporting Enterprise Fund of Broward County, Florida, government with operating revenues of $182.4 million in Fiscal Year 2023 (October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023). It does not rely on local tax dollars for operations. For more information on Port Everglades, visit PortEverglades.net or email [email protected].

About Disney Cruise Line:  For more than 25 years, Disney Cruise Line has established itself as a leader in the cruise industry, providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and children can experience all Disney has to offer. Today, the award-winning Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its blueprint for family cruising with a fleet of five ships - the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish - and three more ships planned, including the Disney Treasure, Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny. The Disney Cruise Line fleet sails to destinations in The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand. Frequently Asked Questions

Full itineraries for world cruises typically last anywhere from around 100 to 180 days, though Royal Caribbean International 's Serenade of the Seas is currently sailing the longest world cruise at 274 days. If you're not able to set sail for three to five months (or longer), some cruise lines also offer select, shorter segments of their full world cruise itineraries or grand voyages, which are typically two to three months in length.

World cruise fares can vary significantly between cruise lines. Some lines advertise cruise-only fares, which do not include meals at specialty restaurants, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, excursions, some entertainment, or other expenses. On top of that, many cruise lines' base prices exclude port fees and taxes. Given the length of a world cruise, even small expenses can add up after several months on the ship and in ports around the globe. Typically, travelers can expect to spend a base fare of about $15,000 for an inside cabin and as much as $90,000 (or more) for luxury accommodations and an all-inclusive fare.

If you're considering sailing beyond 2025, Regent Seven Seas Cruises recently announced its 140-night 2027 world cruise, World of Splendor, sailing from Miami to New York. The voyage embarks on Jan. 11, 2027, aboard Seven Seas Splendor , and prices start at $91,499 per person. If you want to reserve the over-the-top Regent Suite, you'll need to budget an unheard-of $1.7 million for two guests ($839,999 per person, to be exact).

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fares include almost everything you could need, including door-to-door luggage service, first and business class airfare, pre-cruise gala events, exclusive shoreside experiences, unlimited dry cleaning and laundry, prepaid gratuities, meals, open bars and lounges, unlimited Wi-Fi access, and more. Silversea also offers door-to-door pricing that includes private executive transfers, international business class flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels and transfers, baggage valet, all meals and beverages, butler service, bespoke special events, and other amenities.

Depending on the cruise line, you may receive many additional perks when booking a full world cruise, including shore excursions. All-inclusive luxury lines like Silversea and Regent Seven Seas offer a list of complimentary shore excursions in every port. In addition, Silversea hosts a bon voyage reception, a private dinner and an overnight hotel stay for world cruise guests. It also features exclusive world cruise cultural events in ports around the globe. If you're sailing with Regent Seven Seas, you'll also have pre-cruise gala events and exclusive shoreside experiences throughout the cruise.

Special inclusions, upgrades and other amenities are available with other lines that are not all-inclusive. For example, guests on boutique cruise line Azamara's 2025 world cruise will receive $25,000 in benefits, including $3,000 for shore excursions, 13 exclusive events and much more. Oceania's " simply MORE" offer includes $8,200 in shore excursion credit, as well as many other amenities.

If you're sailing with a larger cruise line, it's also possible to find deals that may include shore excursions or onboard credit you can use for booking tours. Holland America Line offers guests an early booking bonus that includes a list of additional perks, including one complimentary shore excursion, $2,000 per person in onboard credit ($4,000 for solo travelers) and more. MSC Cruises includes 15 free shore excursions and other perks when you book its world cruise.

You may want to consult with a travel agent specializing in cruises to see what additional perks they can offer if you book your world cruise through their agency.

Royal Caribbean International's 274-night Ultimate World Cruise, which set sail in December 2023, will visit all seven continents before guests disembark in September 2024.

Holland America Line's 132-day Grand World Voyage cruise aboard Volendam in 2026 will also visit seven continents, circumnavigating the globe. The epic journey will include a four-day Antarctic experience.

THE BEST CRUISE RESTAURANTS ONBOARD GRANDEUR OF THE SEAS

Looking for the best cruise food at sea your ship’s come in..

By Amanda Mesa| Published on May 22, 2024

If you’ve read any of my past guides to cruising, you know that I take food very seriously on all my vacations. A getaway without great meals is like a cannoli without any cream inside — it just doesn’t make sense. Of course, something Royal Caribbean always nails is cruise dining. It’s a big reason why their ships are always at the top of my list when I’m planning a vacation at sea — and Grandeur of the Seas is no exception.

This long-sailing cruise ship offers plenty of restaurants to please a diverse range of flavor preferences and cravings. Whether I’m in the mood for fantastic sushi, authentic Italian entrees, a hearty steak or a comforting bowl of soup, I know I’m only ever steps away from something delicious when I sail aboard this ship. When it comes to cruise fine dining, Grandeur also knocks it out of the park. Chops Grille, Izumi and Chef’s Table are wonderful, upscale options for celebratory dinners and dialed-up date nights. And of course, the main dining room serves up a fabulous multi-course feast in an opulent setting every night of your sailing.

Purchasing cruise drink packages takes every sailing a step further by letting you pair every bite with unlimited ice-cold brews, fine wines and vacation libations throughout your getaway. And buying a specialty dining package unlocks unrivaled discounts at the ship’s specialty restaurants, including Izumi, Chops Grille and Giovanni's℠ Table. Prefer to stick to complimentary cruise dining options? No problem — the complimentary restaurants onboard serve food that’s just as wow-worthy, at no additional cost. Here’s a quick rundown of all the cruise restaurants onboard one of my favorite Vision Class ships.

9. Room Service

Royal Class Room Service Breakfast

There’s nothing basic about wanting to stay in the comfort of your stateroom to enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner. And onboard Grandeur of the Seas , you can call up all your favorite eats whenever your cravings strike, thanks to 24/7 room service. The continental breakfast items on your room service menu are included in your cruise fare, though you can level up your meal with upgrades that include fried eggs, omelets and more. Have a beverage package? Order up some fizzy mimosas or a Bloody Mary. Lunch and dinner cover a wide range of options, from crispy chicken tenders, hot dogs and cheese toasties to the legendary Royal Burger — 225 grams of tender Wagyu beef topped with aged cheddar and crispy bacon.

These are all the incredible cruise restaurants onboard Grandeur of the Seas, though because the menu rotates in spots like Windjammer and the main dining room, you can always look forward to something new to try — even if you’ve tasted your way across all the other dining concepts onboard. Next, it’s time to check out all the fun activities, shows and cool things to do  onboard this cruise ship. Or, if you’ve ready enough and are ready to book, find your perfect itinerary .
