Why Choose Us for Your India Nature Adventure?

  • An All-Encompassing Wildlife Itinerary...in Less-Traveled Parks This is the ultimate India experience for nature lovers. Boost your chances of seeing Bengal tigers—plus a host of other Indian wildlife—on visits to three different national parks that are home to some of India's most concentrated tiger populations. Most travelers go to Ranthambore National Park at peak season, which is heavily advertised and very crowded. We visit equally appealing Bandhavgarh National Park instead, plus Kanha and Kaziranga, which are more remote with far fewer tourists. Kanha also offers some of India's best tiger-viewing possibilities, while Kaziranga offers close encounters with rhinos and wild elephants. We also have a chance to see seven deer species and 600-plus bird species among an impressive diversity of wildlife.
  • India’s Finest Naturalist Guides Our India Expedition Leaders average more than 15 years' experience—with top-level training including resources from WWF scientists. You won’t find more knowledgeable, personable or enthusiastic guides than those who are proud to work for us. Our philosophy is simple: a nature adventure is only as good as the guide who leads it, so we provide the very best! See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  • A Small Group Means More Authentic Nature Experiences Most visitors to India travel in large groups aboard tour buses, focusing on cities and crowded cultural monuments. But that’s no way to experience India’s rich nature, which is our focus. We take just 11 guests, for a lower impact in nature reserves and more personal encounters with wildlife and local people.
  • Nine Days of Wildlife-Focused Activities in Varied Habitats Spend three days each in three premier wildlife reserves as we explore contrasting Asian habitats: the dry mixed deciduous forests of central India and the moist floodplains and grasslands of the Brahmaputra basin. Morning and afternoon safari outings provide a variety of perspectives.
  • Distinctive Accommodations Enhance Your Safari When you travel with us to India, our accommodations ensure your every comfort. Environmentally sensitive ecolodges, while secluded, offer exceptional amenities. Each is selected for proximity to wildlife and the high quality of the guest experience. India’s luxury urban hotels are renowned worldwide, and the 5-star hospitality of the landmark Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi and the Taj City Center New Town Kolkata offer welcome indulgences before and between our safari adventures.
  • Our Presence Directly Helps to Protect Tigers After years of precipitously declining tiger numbers, India is charting steady increases. Its 2022 quadrennial tiger census counted 3,682 tigers, up from 2,967 in 2018, an annual rise of 6%. Conservation groups attribute a share of the increase to responsible ecotourism. The economic value of visitors to India's tiger reserves benefits local communities, offering people an incentive to protect the wildlife they share the land with. Given that India is home to 75% of the world's remaining wild tigers, our presence here for wildlife tourism here is integral to that continued success.
  • Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Outstanding India Wildlife Safari With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive quality value guarantee that promises we will meet the high expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.

History and Culture

Legend estimates it to be over 5,000 years old. Over the millennia, Delhi is said to have been built and destroyed 11 times. The oldest alleged incarnation of the city shows up in the Indian mythological epic Mahabharata as Indraprastha.

Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India's first planned city. Jaipur is a major tourist attraction amongst Indian as well as international travellers. Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly colored buildings, which were originally painted this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Mughal cities. The present earthy red color originates from repainting of the buildings undertaken for a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876.

Varanasi or Banaras Ganga Ghat

Varanasi, or Benaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi is the India of your imagination. This is one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities, and one of the holiest in Hinduism.

Detailed Itinerary

After clearing Customs and Immigration, step into the receiving area, where our representative will meet you and escort you to the hotel.

Overnight at the hotel

On the tour of “ Old Delhi ,” you will head out to explore this exotic locale with its narrow dirt roads, myriads of people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. Drive past Red Fort and visit the Jama Masjid , one of the largest Muslim mosques in India. A bicycle rickshaw will take you into the heart of Chandni Chowk (the silver square - so named because of the silver merchants).

Drive past India Gate , a 42-metre archway built in memory of Indian soldiers killed during the First World War and Rashtrapati Bhawan, built in the early 20th century as the Imperial residence of the Viceroy. Today, it is the official residence of the President of India.

Thereafter, visit the most prominent Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh house of worship)- Bangla Sahib . It was originally a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh, a 17th century Indian ruler. It is open to people of all faiths, castes or creeds. The premises house a sacred pond in which devotees bathe. They believe that this would wash off their misdeeds and thus allow them to attain peace of mind. The 'Langars' or the community kitchen proves to be the ideal example of prodigious hospitality of the Sikhs. Anyone and everyone can have scrumptious meal irrespective of caste, color or class.

Conclude the day by visiting the Delhi's most striking monument, the Qutub Minar , which looms majestically across the wide plains of Delhi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was constructed in 1192 by Qutub-Ud-Din Aibak. Built in red sandstone and marble, it has a height of 72.5 meters (237.8 ft) and contains 379 stairs. A soaring conical tower, it is an exquisite example of Indo-Islamic Afghan architecture and is the tallest minaret in India.

On arrival, check-in to the hotel and thereafter proceed to visit the imposing Red Fort of Agra (also known as Agra Fort). A creative, architectural, and strategic masterpiece, the Fort is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In a cruel twist, Emperor Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal and whose grandfather built the original Fort and who also assumed the throne himself, was imprisoned here at the end of his life by his own son - in a room looking out on the Taj Mahal across the river.

This evening, savor a travel highlight as you embark on a tour of the Taj Mahal , the magnificent tomb of white marble built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz, who had implored her husband to build a monument symbolizing their undying love for each other. Some 20,000 laborers and artisans from around the world spent 22 years constructing what became Mumtaz’s mausoleum, which was begun in 1632. Along with its exquisite symmetry, the Taj features striking examples of pietra dura, a decorative art in which craftsmen embed precisely cut semi-precious stones in marble to form dazzling patterns.

Our guide to north and south india.

Incredible India is a vast and intricate country.

This makes it a gift to travellers embarking on an Indian safari, but it also means that it is easy to get lost in the wonder of it all.

The land is enormous in size, and the options and experiences seem infinite. A traveler who sets out to conquer all of India will have to devote months or even years to their Indian safari quest.

Of course, the never-ending quest is not the only option open to modern adventurers.

Our Guide To North And South India02

Where there is a specialist, there is a way to design the best safari in India :

  • An Indian holiday that will include the perfect mix of attractions, events, and sights.
  • An Indian safari that beautifully matches the plethora of offerings from the country to your particular preferences, interests, and tastes.
  • An itinerary that also takes your familiarity with India into account (First-time travelers to India may prefer a schedule that differs vastly from the circuit that someone who has traveled to India before will find stimulating.)

Our Guide To North And South India03

Several distinct differences characterize North India and South India, and understanding what they are and how they may affect your experience of the country is a great place to begin your pursuit for a flawless luxury safari in India .

While there is no clear boundary between the North and the South, most people will draw the line between the two halves like this:

The states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana (i.e., the Dravidian parts of the country) are considered part of South India.

Our Guide To North And South India04

The rest of the country is known as North India, although the actual definition of the North is a little vaguer because states like Goa and Maharashtra may be considered Western India and West Bengal and Orissa are part of East India.

Our Guide To North And South India05

How do the two sides of India differ?

The Northern part of India has a fast pace with many cultures, people, languages (Hindi, English, Urdu, Punjabi, Kashmiri, and Dogri are spoken here) and experiences coming together in exhilarating chaos. You can expect car horns, cows, cars, call to prayer, tuk-tuks, rickshaws, and millions of people everywhere you look. The largest city in North India is Delhi, and the landscape includes mountains, deserts, towns and smaller villages separated by vast open countryside.

Our Guide To North And South India06

South India is a little slower with the large population of elephants and nature reserves. Begging, smoking, and plastic is banned. The literacy rate is 100%, and the first transgender school in the country opened here. The largest city is Chennal, where driving and walking takes place at a much more civilized pace. Languages spoken include Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, and Sourashtra, and South India will slake a traveler’s thirst for both beaches and tropical forests.

Our Guide To North And South India07

The Climate

North india.

North India is so large that the weather is diverse. In the Himalayas, snow can fall in Ladakh in July, while temperatures may reach over 110 o F ( 43 o C) during the same month in Delhi and Rajasthan.

Of course, Ladakh can only be visited during the height of summer, and even Delhi and Rajasthan may be quite chilly in the winter.

The monsoon season begins late in June and continues into September.

Delhi and Rajasthan may suffer floods during these months, but the northeast and east are generally most at risk.

Our Guide To North And South India08

South India

The tropical weather of South India offers temperatures that hover around 70-80 o F (21-27 o C) throughout most of the year. The humidity is high (this can make the area feel much hotter) with dryer winters and low rainfall between November and April.

The Indian summer monsoon begins in June and continues through August, and even though temperatures do not vary much in the south, the best time for a visit is between October and February.

Our Guide To North And South India09

If you enjoy Indian food outside of India, it isn’t too farfetched to assume that you may readily recognize the heavy curries and naan bread that are typical of North Indian cuisine. Curry aficionados will love the abundance of Punjabi, Rajasthani, and Bengali favorites.

The cuisine is VERY spicy (order extra roti or naan bread to tame the heat) and heavy featuring thick curries, many meat dishes, creamy gravies, spiced tandoor-fired kebabs, and deep-fried samosas all accompanied by paratha (flatbreads) and basmati rice.

In Varanasi, you can enjoy banarasi paan (betel leaf drowned in aromatic spices and sweet syrups), and if you have a sweet tooth you should try phirni (ground rice, milk, cream, sugar, and saffron)

It is in the North of India, where you will find Indo-Chinese food and Tibetan treats.

Blog Our Guide To North And South India11

Breakfast is considered an essential meal in South India. Get ready for masala dosas (lentil and rice crepes filled with potatoes) and idlis (steamed rice cakes with lentil stew).

The food is frequently cooked in coconut oil, the curries are a little more watery, but thicker varieties of rice are common. Try idiyappam (rice noodles with sweet coconut milk) and medu vada (savory donut-shaped lentil batter snacks).

Street food includes jalebis, paddus, dosas, obattu as well as many other curries, snacks, and sweets.

Don’t miss the seafood of Chennai and Kochi.

For all its tea plantations, South India is also coffee country – and they drink it with a lot of milk and sugar.

The Thar Desert

Also known as the Great Indian Desert, the Thar forms a natural border between India and Pakistan. It is ancient (estimates vary between 4000 and 10000 years) and rather large 500 m (800 km) long and 250m (400 km) wide across four Indian states. It is also the most populated desert in the world.

On your Indian safari the Thar is a playground where you can go parasailing, dune bashing, or camel riding, and for more laid back individuals, there are ruins to visit, overnight camping, and a rather magnificent sunrise and sunset.

spiritual capital of India

Splendours of Northern India

Destination, mughal monuments and majesty.

India is a land of rapturous liveliness, of art and devotion and flowering creativity, a land that values intense quietude amidst its endlessly swirling colour.

And, of course, it’s a land of sublime natural and perhaps matchless human-made majesty. Based from some of the world’s most expertly luxurious and serene hotels, this brilliantly choreographed two-week journey brings us into intimate contact with many of India’s most compelling splendours: Delhi’s many monuments to Mughal and British imperial pride; Jaipur’s whimsical pink buildings and vast royal residences; beautiful Udaipur’s lakeside and island straddling palaces; and perhaps especially with the Taj Mahal, an edifice so bewitching that Micato’s friend Theo Cruz “had to shut my eyes to escape the feeling of being in a dream.”

Splendours of Northern India

There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won’t go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited…it was as if all my life I had been seeing the world in black and white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant technicolor. Keith Bellows
  • India’s zestiest cities and grandest monuments: the incomparable Taj Mahal; bustling Delhi; the ornate and vast palaces of Jaipur; and beautiful, lakeside Udaipur.
  • Around-the-clock services of a Micato Travel Director and our unique, always-on-call Concierge Service.
  • Some of the world’s most revered hotels: Agra’s entrancing Amarvilas, the majestic Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, and the scintillating Udaivilas in Udaipur.
  • Encounters with some of India’s most fascinating movers, thinkers, and shakers.
  • Access to normally off-limits palace quarters.

Our days in India’s capital will be eye-openingly active. Largely a creation of the British Raj, New Delhi is magnificently planned, with spacious, tree-lined avenues and fanciful Indo-Saracenic architecture. We’ll visit Rajpath, one of the world’s most impressive civic boulevards, and—with our Travel Director’s well-practiced help—we’ll navigate Old Delhi’s twisting maze of narrow, bustling, intriguing, shop-thronged byways.

We’ll pay our respects at Humayun’s magnificent Tomb, resting place of the second of India’s 19 Mughal emperors. And we’ll get acquainted with India’s ethnic mosaic at the country’s largest mosque, the imposing Jama Masjid, and at bustling Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a centre of worship and community for India’s 21 million Sikhs. Our Delhi hotel, the sparkling and strategically located Taj Mahal , is a lovely introduction to the country’s talent for mixing modernity with timeless grace and charm.

A morning drive on a modern toll road takes us to Agra and the inimitable Taj Mahal, a structure that blurs the line between nature and art, stone and spirit, wakefulness and a wondrous dreamworld. Luckily, our Agra domicile, the fabled Oberoi Amarvilas , enjoys a dramatically apt location: its every beautifully designed window looks out at the Taj—only a couple of thousand feet away.

We’ll visit the Taj in early morning and at sunset, and drive to the gardens of Mehtab Bagh for a view across the Yamuna River. It has long been a cliché that the Taj is one of the few world-iconic sights that lives up to its star billing; many of us agree with traveller Thomas Bacon, who wrote way back in 1835 that “had fifty times as much been said in its praise…all these rhapsodies [would fall] short of its real magnificence.”

Agra is home to much more than the Taj, of course—it was said in the official Mughal history, the Padshahnama, that “who sees Agra has seen the world;” the Mughals left a liberal sprinkling of fascinating tombs, mausoleums, and the vast UNESCO World Heritage Site of Agra Fort, more an endlessly fascinating walled city than a fortress.

We drive west to the Pink City of Jaipur, steeped in history and endlessly vibrant with life and colour. Our headquarters for three Jaipurian nights is the magnificent Rambagh Palace , once home to Maharajah Sawai Man Singh II, the last of Jaipur’s famously stylish and extravagant reigning maharajahs. The Rambagh is a good example of one of Jaipur’s joys: the tangibility of its past, which comes alive at the Rambagh, at the fabulously ornate City Palace, at the almost whimsical yet stunningly accurate observatory of Jantar Mantar, and at Amber Fort, a massive, sandstone-walled marvel with lavish interior murals, frescoes and carvings. (At the Fort’s Sheesh Mahal, or Mirror Palace, strategically placed lamps reflected in thousands of multicoloured mirrors create a sparkling, magical mist of light.)

A heartwarming early morning hot air balloon ride takes us over Jaipur’s marble quarry hills and suburban homes and gardens: dogs bark, teakettles whistle, bicyclists head for work, and kids race off for school; we wave and smile, and becharmed Jaipuris smile and wave back and take out their handy cell phones to take our picture.

We’ll delve into Jaipur’s famous jewelry, carpets, fabrics, and you-name-it emporia, visit the lapidary Samode Palace and gardens outside the city, and one enchanting evening we’ll enjoy time with some well-cared for elephants and take to the Rajasthani countryside for a regally catered al fresco dinner.

We fly southwest from Jaipur to Udaipur, beloved throughout India for its calm lakes and reposeful airs. On the shores of the main lake, Pichola, is our hotel, the scintillatingly reposeful, superbly imaginative, and downright gorgeous Oberoi Udaivilas (if you think we’re rather free with our adjectives, note that the Udaivilas was recently named planet Earth’s number one best hotel in the annual Travel + Leisure rankings). Udaipur’s City Palace is a huge but delicate wonder. Its museum and the living quarters of the fiercely independent Maharanas of Mewar will impress us even after we’ve experienced eight or nine days of Indian splendour. Activities abound: We may boat on the lake (in parts reminiscent of the Bosphorus’ meeting of water and stately architecture) or wander and shop on the lively street below the palace. And just north of Udaipur is the thousand-year old temple complex of Eklingji—108 intricately carved Hindu temples—and nearby Nagda, the site of two fourth century temples with walls lavishly embellished with wonderfully carved stories from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, co-starring goddesses and gods and lovers in inventive embrace.

After an optional yoga session and lunch at the Udaivilas, we fly to Delhi and the Oberoi Gurgaon , where we’ll have rooms available until our late night international flights.

How much does india cost.

Typically, expect to budget around £8,000 for a 10-day experience staying at two or three luxury tented accommodation. For a longer 22-day safari in India, expect to budget from around £14,000 per person. This will generally include domestic flights to and from Delhi or Mumbai, private jeep safaris in Pench, Kanha and Ranthambore National Parks, four camps and additional unique sightseeing stops.

Where to stay in India?

Complementing the obvious cultural charms that it has to offer; India is home to a truly impressive range of accommodations. Around the popular parks of Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Ranthambore you can find options ranging from authentic tented camps to treetop hideaways and luxury lodges. R ead more about where to stay in India.

When to go to India?

The best time to go to India will depend on the region you wish to go to, but if your focus is tracking tigers, it is best to travel during the drier periods between February and April, when rising temperatures increasingly draw predators and prey to fresh water sources. During monsoon season, July to September, most national parks are closed. Read more about when to go to India.

What to expect from a trip to India

Sl India Bengal Tiger Credit Steve Winter

Harriet was a great source of advice throughout the planning and the trip. We had many changex and she was patient and flexible in adjusting the itinerary. It was the second trip with her as the Specialist and it won’t be the last. Guides were great!! Loved the vibe and the excellent expertise. Thanks again for creating this memorable experience. Hotels were superb, luxurious but in time and with a local touch. Would have loved to stay longer in each of them.

Dealing with NWS is always a very easy and pleasant experience. You get it dead right for us each and every time we travel with you. We wouldn't even dream of using another agent ever again!

Harriet was fantastic to work with in putting together our dream trip. She turned around an incredibly quick and extraordinarily competitive itinerary for us when we had been let down elsewhere and managed all of our queries quickly and calmly. She was a pleasure to deal with and extremely helpful. This trip was a ten out of ten. We felt incredibly well looked after and utterly immersed in everything we saw. Fabulous local guides and naturalists at every turn ensured we took so much knowledge and appreciation home with us along with brilliant memories. The perfect introduction to this beautiful country. Did I mention we saw a tiger? We'd love to travel again with such brilliant destination information and on-the-ground teams combined with a competitively and sensibly priced approach.

Overall experience was magical and your whole team were very attentive and helpful. The guides were excellent and went above and beyond to make our trips and flights as easy and comfortable as possible. We were delighted with our entire experience!

We have always had excellent experiences with Natural World Safaris.

Many hotels and restaurants provide bottled or filtered water, and it's a good practice to use this water for drinking, brushing your teeth, and consuming ice. Additionally, be cautious with consuming raw vegetables and fruits that may have been washed in tap water. Staying hydrated is important, so ensure you have access to safe water sources during your stay in India.

It's important to check the specific visa requirements and application process for your nationality and intended activities in India well in advance of your travel dates.

Is India safe for travel?

India can be a safe and enriching holiday destination, but travellers should exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings. Best 7 National Parks for Tiger Safaris in India (Tips & Map)

India is the best place to see wild tigers. It enjoys 70% of the world's tiger population and has over 50 tiger reserves.

If you are a wildlife and nature lover, don't miss a wildlife safari tour in one of India's national parks.

The majestic Bengal tigers are the main stars — one of the top-draw animals for safari-goers, but you will also enjoy an array of other wild animals and the grasslands.

Jeep safaris, the most popular way to see the Bengal tigers in their natural habitat, are available in almost all of the national parks across India.

Read on for more information about tiger safaris in India covering the best national parks, best times, and other tips.

  • Best 7 National Parks for Tiger Safaris

How to Choose a Tiger Safari

A sample india itinerary with a tiger safari, the best time for a tiger safari in india, 1. ranthambore national park — most popular.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and best national parks for spotting wild tigers and other animals, such as jungle cats and Indian foxes.

It is close to Agra and Jaipur. The convenient location makes it easy to include in a classic golden triangle trip (of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur).

Moreover, Ranthambore National Park features sparse forest cover and open grassy meadows. A wider and unobstructed view increases the chance of seeing a tiger .

  • How to get there: about 170 km from Jaipur (3½ hours' driving)
  • Location: Rajasthan (a state in northwest India)

2. Kanha National Park — Most Wildlife

Kanha National Park is considered the largest national park in Madhya Pradesh (central India).

if you are interested in seeing more varied wildlife and a scenic jungle landscape, Kanha National Park is a good choice.

The dense forest, which provides good shelter for its tigers, may lead to less chance to spot a tiger.

  • How to get there: 2 hours' flying form Delhi to Swami Vivekananda International Airport and 4½–5 hours' driving from the airport
  • Location: Madhya Pradesh (a state in central India)

3. Bandhavgarh National Park — Highest Density of Tigers

Bandhavgarh National Park is another popular national park for tiger safaris in Madhya Pradesh.

Bandhavgarh National Park offers the best chance of seeing tigers as it has a higher density of tigers. So, it is also a good choice if you are aiming at spotting tigers (and quickly). It is more remotely located than Ranthambhore and Kandha.

Besides Bengal tigers, it boasts a tremendous amount of species like the Indian guar, the world's largest bovine. You can also enjoy a guided walking safari to explore nature (not the tigers!) from up close.

  • How to get there: 1½ hours' flying from Delhi to Jabalpur Airport and 3½–4 hours' driving from the airport
  • Location: Madhya Pradesh (the state in central India)

4. Jim Corbett National Park — Rich Activities

Jim Corbett National Park is India's oldest national park, where you can find every geographical landscape , from marshy swamps to hills, from riverine belts to lakes.

Though it has over 200 tigers, it is not easy to see them in the dense foliage. It is more for wildlife and nature lovers than tiger sightseeing.

It is also the one of the only national parks in India where you have the opportunity to stay inside the park in over-100-year-old forest lodges.

Apart from tiger safaris, you can enjoy other outdoor activities like nature walks, cycling, river rafting, and rope courses.

  • How to get there: about 250 km from Delhi (5 hours' driving)
  • Location: Uttarakhand (a state in central north India)

5. Tadoba National Park — Night Safaris

Satpura National Park is notably Maharashtra's (the state in central west India's) oldest and largest national park.

Tadoba National Park is not as big, but has one of the highest populations of tigers in India . This means you would have a good chance of seeing a tiger.

Tadoba National Park also offers a night safari experience, which allows you to observe nighttime wildlife like rusty-spotted cats, civets, and a variety of owls.

There is also good chance to see the shy sloth bear and wild dogs. You can also find some of the Central India's best native woodland bird species in this forest.

  • How to get there: 1½-2 hours' flying from Delhi to Nagpur and 2½ hours' driving from the airport
  • Location: Maharashtra (a state in central west India)

6. Satpura National Park — Less Crowded

Satpura National Park is a relatively less-crowded park for tiger safaris, so it is no struggle to get safari tickets, except during festivals or New Year weekends.

The tiger population in the park is thought to be around 50, but they are sometimes more elusive. Leopards, gaurs (the largest of oxes), wild dogs, and sloth bears are seen more frequently.

There you can also do a walking safari, canoeing, birding, etc.

  • How to get there: 1½ hours' flying from Delhi to Bhopal Airport and about 3½-4 hours' driving (190 km)

7. Sasan Gir National Park — for Lion Safaris

What makes Gir National Park special is that it is the only place in the world outside Africa where a lion can be seen in its natural habitat.

There you can go on a lion safari by jeep to spot lions roaming free in the wild. You can also see leopards, different species of deer, Chowsingha — the world's only four-horned antelope, jackals, and many other animals, though no tigers.

  • How to get there: about 2 hours' flying from Delhi to Rajkot Airport and about 2 hours' driving (100 km)
  • Location: Gujarat (westernmost state in India)

There are three main factors you should consider when choosing a park for a tiger safari — the ease of getting there, the possibility of seeing a tiger, and the scenery of the park.

Bandhavgarh National Park, Ranthambore National Park, and Tadoba National Park will give you a better chance to see a tiger. Among them, Ranthambore is most recommended as it is easier to get to.

If you'd enjoy dense forest scenery more than the sighting of a tiger in open grassland scenery, with rivers, lush greenery, and other outdoor activities, Jim Corbett National Park, Kanha National Park, and Satpura National Park could be better choices for you.

If you would like a uniquely special experience (and if you are already in the Gujarat area of west India), an Indian lion safari in Sasan Gir National Park may be perfect for you.

Most national parks are open from mid-October to June and are closed during the monsoon season from July to early October.

For those who are especially interested in a tiger safari , the best time to visit the national parks is from April to June . This is due to drier weather conditions, making it easier for you to have the chance to spot the tigers, as they come out searching for water.

The cooler months from late November to February are the most comfortable time to visit, with pleasant midday temperatures, but vegetation remains dense and can make wildlife spotting challenging.
