Night Safari Singapore is the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park . Housing over 900 animals from approximately 100 species , it offers two main experiences : a tram ride or a walking trail .

On the tram, you can see a variety of animals like Malayan tigers and White African lions, each in their element under the cloak of night.

If you choose to walk, expect close encounters with creatures like sloth bears and Asian otters.

Time We Visit:

We visited the Night Safari Singapore during the earliest time slot at 7:15 PM. I highly recommend doing the same because you get to see the animals in much better light.

Our Tram Ride Journey:

We began our adventure with the tram ride. It’s a great way to get up close with the animals, although taking good photographs from the moving tram can be a bit challenging.

Animal Show Experience:

After the tram ride, I recommend checking out the Creatures of the Night show at 8:30 PM. It’s not only entertaining but also really informative, giving you a fascinating glimpse into the world of nocturnal animals.

Walking Trails Feedback:

Finally, we explored the four walking trails. It’s a chance to see different species of animals, many of them are active at night.

While some animals are easily visible, others are harder to spot. It requires a bit of patience, but taking your time to observe the animals is definitely worth it.

How Much Time We Allocated for the Park Visit:

We spent around 3 hours exploring the park, and it was time well spent.

There’s so much to see and experience, so I recommend setting aside at least this much time to fully enjoy the Night Safari.

Overall Experience:

We thoroughly enjoyed the Night Safari Singapore as a unique zoo experience. It’s a fantastic place to spend an evening, and adding it to our Singapore 5-day itinerary was a choice I’m happy about.

Also, a useful tip: don’t forget to bring a water bottle. You can refill it at the free water dispensers near the washrooms, which is both convenient and eco-friendly.

Thing We Didn’t Like:

There are some mosquitoes at the Night Safari, so I highly recommend bringing mosquito repellent. This small preparation can make your experience much more comfortable.

When you buy tickets at the Night Safari’s on-site counter, the regular prices are SGD $55 for adults and SGD $38 for children aged 3 to 12.

But here’s a tip: book the Night Safari tickets online here to enjoy special pricing. We did this and it was a smooth process.

You’ll receive e-tickets in your email, which you can simply show on your phone for a convenient and easy park entry.

For the best experience at the Night Safari Singapore , aim for the earliest admission time at 7:15 PM .

Going early helps you see the animals more clearly, as it’s less dark. This also gives you plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed.

Additionally, more animals are active during this time , increasing your chances of seeing high-energy animals in action.

The park is open from 7.15 PM until midnight, with the last entry at 11:15 PM.

Entry Time Slots: 7:15 PM, 7:45 PM, 8:15 PM, 8:45 PM, 9:15 PM & 9:45 PM

To effortlessly navigate Night Safari, I suggest downloading the zoo map here . This will make it easier for you to explore the park using just your smartphone.

It’s not advisable that you use a hardcopy map because it can be very hard to see and read it at night.

To make the most of your visit, I suggest having dinner early and lining up at the entry gate by 6:30 PM . This lets you catch the earliest tram ride at Night Safari and cut down on waiting times .

While it’s tough to take good photographs from the moving tram, the upside is that you can fully immerse yourself in observing and enjoying the animals. It’s a unique opportunity to see them up close without distractions.

The Night Safari Singapore offers 4 walking trails that allow you to see the animals up-close . These are Leopard Trail , Fishing Cat Trail , East Lodge Trail , and Tasmanian Devil Trail .

Each trail comes with a variety of animals. So, you just have to pick the trail that you are interested in.

1. Leopard Trail

The Leopard Trail lets you see nocturnal animals in action. You’ll spot popular cats like Sri Lankan leopards, clouded leopards, golden cats, civets, and lions.

But it’s not just about cats; as you walk further, you’ll also encounter porcupines, eagle owls, giant flying squirrels, and fruit bats.

2. Fishing Cat Trail

On the Fishing Cat Trail, you’ll find predators like striped hyenas and fishing cats. These animals are highly alert and strategic in hunting their prey. Keep your eyes open to catch their impressive moves.

Besides these, you’ll also see binturongs, pangolins, Asian otters, and more!

3. East Lodge Trail

The East Lodge Trail blends African and Asian wildlife, showcasing animals from both tropical and grassland environments.

Here, you’ll find Malayan Tigers, serval cats, sloth bears, and spotted hyenas.

Also, keep an eye out for unique species like babirusas, anoas, and bongos. If these animals fascinate you, this trail is a must-visit.

4. Tasmanian Devil Trail

The Tasmanian Devil Trail offers a unique chance to see wallabies, often with babies in their pouches.

This area, focusing on wildlife from Australia, New Guinea, and New Zealand, features charming animals like sugar gliders, barn owls, and possums.

You can also spot the impressive white-lipped python here.

To fully enjoy your Night Safari experience, don’t miss the “Creatures of the Night” show at the Night Safari Amphitheatre.

The show runs at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:30 PM. On Fridays to Sundays, there’s an additional show at 10:15 PM.

This show puts a spotlight on some amazingly talented animals. You’ll be entertained by owls, civets, and fennec foxes, each showcasing their adorable antics.

Remember, you can only book seats 2 hours before each presentation. So, it’s crucial to plan ahead and reserve early to ensure you get a spot.

You can enjoy dinner at Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant , located right next to the Night Safari entrance .

Designed in a rustic village style , the restaurant serves a variety of dishes, ranging from local specialties to international cuisine .

It’s an ideal spot for a quick snack or a leisurely meal, surrounded by the sounds of nocturnal wildlife.

When visiting Night Safari Singapore, it’s crucial to remember that flash photography is not allowed . This is to protect the animals, as bright flashes can startle and disturb them.

For night photography, here are some tips:

• Use a High ISO Setting: This helps your camera capture more light, making it easier to photograph in low-light conditions.
• Experiment with Exposure: Longer exposure can capture more details but requires a steady hand or support.
• Be Patient: Night photography requires time and patience. Wait for the right moment to capture the animals in their natural behavior.

How to Get to Night Safari Singapore

Even if there’s no MRT station that takes you directly to Night Safari Singapore, no need to worry! You can easily reach the place from the MRT station then by bus.

1. By MRT and Mandai Khatib Shuttle

The best way to go to Night Safari is by MRT and Mandai Khatib Shuttle especially for first-time visitors.

Take the MRT to Khatib Station , then head for Exit A to board the Mandai Khatib Shuttle to Night Safari . The journey takes about 15 minutes and costs SGD $2 .

The shuttle operates from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM , with services running every 10 to 20 minutes .

Kindly take note that the Mandai Khatib Shuttle only accept EZ-link or NETS Flash card and it didn’t accept cash.

2. By Bus 138

If you’re staying close to Ang Mo Kio area , you can board the bus 138 go to Night Safari . The bus fare is SGD $1.72 (if pay by EZ-link or NETS Flash card) and SGD $2.50 (if pay by cash) . The one-way trip will take around 39 minutes .

If you’re paying with cash, it’s advised to use the exact fare, as no change will be provided.

To get on the bus 138, go to Ang Mo Kio bus terminal, which is connected to Exit C of Ang Mo Kio Station .

The bus 138 runs every 6 to 17 minutes from 6:00 AM to 11:45 PM.

If you want a comfortable way to get to Night Safari, then you can take a taxi. To save some money, you can take a taxi from the Exit A of Khatib Station and it costs around SGD $13.

• Singapore Zoo : Vibrant and traditional, it features a variety of animals in a lush, open environment with natural sunlight.
• River Wonders : Specializes in aquatic and riverine animals, showcasing a mix of land and water creatures.
• Night Safari: Focuses on nocturnal animals. It’s quieter, with a mysterious atmosphere, and animals are viewed under subtle lighting. The tram ride provides a guided tour through different zones, a feature unique to Night Safari.

In Summary:

Singapore Night Safari: Know Before You Go

Do you love animals and walking in nature?  Do you ever wonder what creatures of the night get up to while you’re sleeping? Does your imagination ever run wild with dreams of new travel experiences and close encounters?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above then a trip to the Singapore Night Safari is a must for you!

During our visit to the Singapore Night Safari, we discovered a lot of things we wish we’d known before visiting. And now here we are to share our tips and experiences with you. I hope you find them helpful.

About Singapore Night Safari

Singapore Night Safari (sometimes called Mandai Night Safari) was first thought of in the 1980s and officially opened in 1994. It’s the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park and consistently wins awards for its innovative ideas.

Attracting around 1.3 million visitors every year, the park covers a whopping 86 acres of rainforest. 

There are around 900 animals from 100 different species to see with around 41% of those being endangered. From lions and tigers to elephants and hippos, there’s a lot for you to see. 

But perhaps the most important thing about the Night Safari is that it’s an ethical attraction.

The park has single-handedly bred threatened species, such as Malayan tigers, Asian elephants, fishing cats, Malayan tapirs and Asian lions to name just a few, to help prevent total extinction.

Night Safari, alongside other top places to go in Singapore like the Singapore Zoo , Bird Paradise (formerly Jurong Bird Park) and River Wonders (formerly River Safari) are all managed by the Mandai Wildlife Group. This organisation is on a mission to “provide meaningful and memorable wildlife experiences with a focus on protecting biodiversity in Singapore and the region.”

Furthermore, the wildlife reserve’s owners routinely listen and act on the guidance set out by local animal welfare organisations such as Acres .

As an example, back in 2005, Acres identified issues with the animal shows at the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. After providing feedback, changes were made at the zoos, prompting Acres to say : “We hope that other zoos and parks will follow the example set by the Singapore Zoo.”

Please note that t he Singapore Night Safari is NOT within Singapore City. It can be found near the Mandai district, Singapore Zoo and the Upper Seletar Reservoir, which are all approximately 16 miles from downtown Singapore. 

Singapore Night Safari Review: Our Barebones Honest Feedback

Before we get into our Singapore Night Safari tips and top things to know before you go, you might be wondering whether it’s really worth it.

Below is our quick and honest Singapore Night Safari review – we’ll think you’ll like our answer!

Before visiting, we’d seen a few bad reviews online but this didn’t detract from its overall four-star rating . 

We loved the idea of being able to see animals we wouldn’t normally see – and they would even be awake. We couldn’t wait .

And we WERE NOT AT ALL disappointed!

Quite the opposite – it was one of the top highlights of our Singapore itinerary and of our entire honeymoon!

Because we followed some advice we read before our trip, we missed out on long queuing times and hoards of people. 

Instead, we felt like we had free reign of the park, and at times, it often felt like we were wandering around a tropical and wild rainforest as opposed to just a tourist attraction!

Towering trees surrounded us, crickets noisily chirped all through the night and the occasional rustle from the undergrowth made us jump a few times.

And all of this was in addition to seeing so many incredible animals.

Have you ever seen a clouded leopard chilling on a tree branch? What about a fishing cat searching for its prey in the water? And have you ever experienced bats whipping past your head at breakneck speeds?

All of this and more is possible at the Singapore Night Safari. Can you tell we were completely and utterly impressed?

But for your visit to be just as incredible as ours was, it pays to know a few things in advance. Here’s everything we think you need to know before you go… 

Top Tips For Visiting Singapore Night Safari

All of our Night Safari tips below are based on our own experiences and what we noticed during our visit.  We’ve also updated this blog post since our visit to record what’s changed since then.

Tip #1. Book tickets online to reduce queuing times and disappointment

Do you need to book the Singapore Night Safari online in advance? 

No – but it comes highly recommended by the park itself, as well as by us and every other blog we’ve read about it. 

Booking tickets in advance online from the official Night Safari website reduces the amount of time you’ll spend queuing – and helps to avoid disappointment.

You’ll be able to join the queue at the entrance gate straightaway with either a printed ticket or e-ticket on your mobile without having to pick any tickets up first.

The Night Safari is also a hugely popular attraction, so to avoid disappointment (each entry time has a maximum number of visitors allowed in), it’s best to book in advance. 

We booked our tickets the month before arriving and there were only 300 tickets left for the 7.15pm entry time – so it pays to plan ahead!

Tip #2. Arrive early for the fire show and to reduce queuing times

We wanted to ensure we had as much time as possible to see everything so we chose the earliest entry time of 7.15pm. 

Being organised travellers, we arrived early (at around 6.40pm) and joined the queue straightaway. 

And boy, are we glad we did! 

We not only got the chance to see the Thumbuakar Fire Performance at 6.45pm, but we were even let into the park early at 7pm – that’s less than 20 minutes of queuing time!

Other Singapore Night Safari timings include 8.15pm, 9.15pm and 10.15pm.

Tip #3. Don’t miss out on the walking trails!

You’ll be sorely disappointed if you think that the Night Safari tram takes you to every single animal enclosure. It doesn’t. You’ll see more on two feet than you will on four wheels.

So make sure you don’t skip the walking trails – they are so much fun and you’ll see a lot that you would miss out on by only using the tram service.

There are four walking trails in total: the Fishing Cat Trail, East Coast Lodge Trail, Leopard Trail and the Wallaby Trail. 

My husband and I walked at a leisurely pace around every single trail and it took us around two hours in total.

Tip #4. Skip the trams and take to foot first

We had read various reviews and blogs that recommended skipping the tram and walking around the park on foot first. It turns out that this was EXCELLENT advice!

Just as we were setting out on foot at 7pm, we saw hundreds of people queuing for the tram.

So not only did we miss out on extra queuing time (we got the tram later on at 9pm and there was no one in front of us), but we also got a chance to walk around the park practically by ourselves.

We saw less than a dozen other guests while we were on foot and only a handful of staff who we met while crossing roads.

It was simply INCREDIBLE to feel like we had the park to ourselves – just us and the animals!

Tip #5. Don’t miss out on the tram later though!

But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go back to do the tram ride later on.

The Night Safari tram runs at scheduled times throughout the night and allows you to see some animals and parts of the park that walking alone cannot offer, such as elephants, male lions and free-roaming deer.

But almost everyone heads for the tram first resulting in long wait times.

Instead, head out on foot first and get the tram later – we can almost guarantee you that there will be no queues after 9pm!

Tip #6. Don’t expect to get amazing photos of the animals

As this is a park dedicated to nocturnal animals, they’ve done a great job of keeping the lights low to mimic moonlight – and flash photography is strictly forbidden.

You’ll need to squint and keep your eyes peeled for the animals at times, but this also means you shouldn’t expect to get amazing photos unless you have professional camera equipment.

We just about managed to get a few good shots of the animals with Scott’s old Huawei phone, which has a decent night mode… but as you can see, they’re still not exactly epic shots.

That said, you’ll probably find it therapeutic to simply put your phone away and look at the animals without any pressure to fill up your Instagram feed .

Tip #7. Squint hard and look everywhere… the animals could be lurking anywhere!

Although some of the animals choose to sit front and centre within their enclosures, others sometimes shy away into the shadows.

But if you take the time to look and squint into the darkness, then you should be able to see most if not all of the animals.

And once you’ve found one, its mates probably aren’t too far away from it!

Tip #8. Remember to use your Night Safari map

The Night Safari covers 86 acres of rainforest. 

Although the walking trails are well signposted and nicely laid out for you to follow, you could run the risk of missing out on seeing something if you don’t use your Night Safari map !

Tip #9. Take plenty of water and snacks

Singapore has a very humid climate. If you’re not used to it, then it feels like you’re walking around in a permanent sauna or oven – and there is no relief from the heat even after the sun goes down.

And as the Night Safari is set within a rainforest, its humidity is doubled!

Take plenty of water and snacks with you to keep your energy and hydration levels up.

And if you’ve chosen to follow our advice of taking to the walking trails at the Night Safari then you can fill up your water bottles in the many water fountains dotted around the park. Just find any toilet facility and there will be a water fountain somewhere next to it .

Tip #10. Invest in a battery-powered handheld fan

Although there are powerful fans dotted around some of the enclosure huts, there’s a fair amount of walking to do out in the humid Singapore air.

A battery-powered handheld fan like this one from Amazon is perfect for taking in your backpack ready to be used when you just need a few minutes break from Singapore’s humidity – and they often cost less than a tenner.

The Night Safari tram is also a great relief from the heat. It’s open on all sides so you get a very welcome breeze as it whips around to each attraction.

Tip #11. Pack your umbrella, coat or waterproof poncho

Singapore is known for its sudden downpours of rain. They come with little to no warning – especially at night when you can’t see the clouds – and quickly flood areas in a matter of minutes.

So make sure you pack an umbrella, coat or waterproof poncho in case you suddenly get caught in the rain!

Tip #12. Wear comfortable shoes and light layers

As mentioned before, the park is dimly lit. There are also a few uneven paths, as well as steps and slopes, so a comfortable pair of shoes is a must.

We’d suggest wearing a comfy pair of trainers that are lightweight and breathable.

And as Singapore is so humid, it also pays to wear lightweight clothes and pack a jacket, coat or umbrella in case it rains.

Tip #13. Set aside four to six hours for your visit

The duration of your visit to the Night Safari in Singapore will vary based on whether you’re travelling with children or anyone with accessibility issues and what you choose to do while you’re there.

But we’d suggest setting aside four to six hours for your visit.

We followed every single walking trail at a leisurely pace and it took us around two hours in total. The Night Safari tram takes 40 minutes (not including wait times).

Please note that these timings don’t include queuing times or time spent getting to the park.

Tip #14. There are a variety of ways to get to the Night Safari

The Singapore Night Safari can be found at 80 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore, 729826.

From public transport options to taxis, there are several different ways to get here depending on what works best for you and how much time you want to spend getting from A to B.

Using public transport to get to the Night Safari

The nearest MRT station is Khatib on the North-South line. You’ll likely need to get two trains if coming from Singapore City. This is a great option if you already have a rail card or tourist pass .

There’s a shuttle operating between Khatib MRT Station and the Night Safari, which costs just S$2. It runs every 15-20 minutes with the last shuttle back to Khatib at midnight. 

Cash isn’t accepted on the bus; you have to buy your ticket at the Night Safari Coach Bay upon your return. This sounds strange and it’s something that took the bus driver two attempts at communicating to us as we just didn’t understand.

If you’d rather just pay a one-off fee to get to the Night Safari then there are several direct buses from Singapore City, which include the Safari Gate Bus, Singapore Attractions Express and StarIsland Travel Bus. Details of costs and timings can be found here .

Driving to the Night Safari

If you’re driving to the Night Safari then please note parking charges apply. The first hour is S$3 with additional hours costing S$2 each up to a maximum of S$10 per car.

A taxi from Singapore City to the Night Safari (or vice versa) will cost around S$15 to S$25 depending on the time. All taxis are metered though so you don’t need to haggle over pricing. 

To ensure you get a taxi when you need one, it’s better to call in advance or book via the Grab mobile app . Uber isn’t used in Singapore but Grab works in the same way.

Tip #15. Pay for the Night Safari shuttle upon your return

If you want to catch the Khatib MRT shuttle bus to the Night Safari then you pay for the shuttle upon your return if you don’t have an EZ-link or NETS FlashPay card.

You’ll get your ticket at the Night Safari Coach Bay before boarding the return shuttle, which will cost you S$2 per adult. This ticket covers the first shuttle you got and the second one you’re about to take.

If you’re unsure about anything, just ask the shuttle driver when you first get on and he or she will point to a sign that indicates payment on return from the Night Safari park itself.

Apologies to the driver who took two attempts to tell us this when we visited – we were very confused at the time! 😉

Tip #16. Singapore Night Safari isn’t the same as Singapore Zoo

Something that often confuses visitors is whether the Night Safari and Singapore Zoo are the same thing and just operating at different times.

Let’s get this settled once and for all: they are COMPLETELY separate attractions!

They’re located right next to each other (it takes just 5 minutes to walk between the two entrances), but they operate at different times, offer different animals and attractions and have separate entry fees.

Tip #17. Don’t miss Rainforest Lumina at Singapore Zoo (now sadly closed)

Sadly, Rainforest Lumina had its final season in 2022 , so it’s no longer possible to see it. This is such a shame because it was amazing!

During a 45-minute walking trail, we followed lights, sounds and virtual animals . We even had the chance to play various games throughout our visit .

Despite this attraction being closed, we decided to keep this section in our blog post, so you can see how it once looked. I have to say, though, I truly hope they launch it again one day because it was an incredible experience.

Very insightful review! Just wondering, how dark can the walking trail be?

I’m glad you found our review helpful! 😀

So, we visited in September 2019 and were walking the trails between roughly 7-9pm. Although they’ve kept the trails fairly dark, we didn’t feel like we needed a torch or anything. I also have a feeling this probably wouldn’t have been allowed anyway as flash photography is also prohibited.

However, all of the animal enclosures have dim lights so you can see what’s going on inside, there are lights dotted around the trail here and there and also lights throughout little picnic areas (and where the toilets, vending machines, water fountains, etc are), which altogether, felt like enough light. Especially given it was twilight at the time for us and our eyes got used to the dark pretty quickly.

I actually wasn't intending to write a review about the Night Safari because the Night Safari is like the Singapore Zoo and Bird Park which most of us locals are familiar with it. But then again before we made the trip, I was searching up info and asking people about bookings and ticketing (I haven't been there in years!) and it was then I realised despite Singapore easing COVID restrictions, visiting some local attractions are not still as straightforward as it used to be. The attraction may also have new and improved ways of doing things and what I knew about visiting an attraction a few years back no longer applied.

So here's a blog post on what you REALLY SHOULD KNOW before visiting the Night Safari, especially if you are bringing kids along. I actually tried searching some of these info on the Mandai Wildlife Reserve's website - it's the consolidated website for the Night Safari, Zoo, Bird Park and River Wonders - and I couldn't find the answers to my questions. Personally I do not find their website user-friendly as lots of info are under links that you wouldn't realise would direct you to what you are looking for. In the end, I googled and asked my friends.

So here are 10 things you need to know before visiting the Night Safari and our review (of sorts).

1) Check out ticket promos

If you go to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve's website you'll see that local residents can get up to 30% off standard tickets of $55 for adults, $38 for children 3-12 years old and $20 for senior citizens above 60 years old. (BTW local residents mean Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and ICA-approved or MOM-approved passes with a valid FIN number, including holders of employment pass, student pass, work permit or dependent pass.). But even with the 30% discount, it still works out to be rather expensive at over $100 for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.

There are actually better promotions than the local resident rate. There are bank and merchant card promos that can give you 40-60% discount off standard rates and I only found these promos after I googled "Night Safari ticket promo" - I couldn't find it when I was searching through the Mandai Wildlife Reserve's website. Turned out the bank and merchant card promos are at the "Things to Do", then "Promotions", then "Partner Promos" at the website - who knew right?

There you'll find discounts with bank cards like those of Maybank's, HSBC, POSB and merchant cards like NTUC, Safra and Passion Card and most are offering 40-60% discount depending on whether you're going on a weekday or weekend.

I had also checked Klook and the best discount they have there is the 30% local resident discount. So do make use of the bank and merchant card promos for savings!

2) You need to book a visiting time

OK, hopefully you have one of those cards listed above and if you've booked through the promo card's link, they will ask you to choose a preferred entry time from 715pm onwards .

Choosing a particular timeslot doesn't mean you will only be allowed entry at that time. Staff will still let you enter even if you show up at other timings after its opening time of 630pm . The timeslot booking is to help the park better manage its crowd.

If you are getting the local resident ticket, you'll also need to book an entry time but I am unsure if they would ask you to do so when paying for the tickets as I didn't book through this avenue. But in the website's FAQ, there is a link that will take you to the page to pre-book your entry time and it's under the Jurong Bird Park tab. Now you know what I mean about the website not being very user-friendly?

3) Go after 7pm

You might think, hey might as well arrive when the park opens at 630pm to enjoy the park a bit longer! Well, advice from my friends and Tripadvisor is that the 630-7pm timing is the peak entry time - people visiting the other attractions there would go right after the daytime attractions close, so there tends to be a queue for entry and tram ride if you go early. So I guess it is also reason why the earliest entry time they let you book is 715pm?

When we arrived around 720pm on a weekday night, there weren't queues for entry but we could see a long queue for the tram ride. So, my advice is to go after 7pm. When we took the tram at around 8pm, we were ushered up the tram pretty quickly. The park closes at 12 midnight , so there's ample time to get around (unless you have kids who need to sleep early!). But I can only say this is so for a weekday. I would assume weekend queues would be much longer.

4) If you want to catch the show, you have to book it

If you want to catch the Creatures of the Night main show at the Night Safari, you'll need to book ahead on the website and bookings only open 2 hours before the show . The show, which take about 25 minutes, starts at 730pm, 830pm, 930pm and 1030pm (The 1030pm show is only available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, eve of public holidays and public holidays.) On successful booking, you'll receive a confirmation email/sms that you'll need to show the staff there before they allow you to enter the amphitheatre.

The park advises being there 25 minutes before the show starts. But honestly, I don't think you need to go that early. The centre blocks of the amphitheatre are mostly taken up when we arrived 10 minutes before the 730pm show but the amphitheatre is not big and I think even if you take the seats at the side or at the back, you'll still be able to enjoy the show.

The seats at the 730pm show were almost all taken up on the Wednesday night we were there. So I assume on weekends, bookings for the shows would be snapped up pretty quickly. So book fast when booking opens !

BTW, the shows would not be available after 31 October 2022 until further notice due to refurbishment at the Night Safari. So if you want your money's worth (the show is included in your ticket!), might want to visit before the date. It's definitely worth watching and completes the experience at Night Safari. My girls (10 and 12 years old) totally enjoyed it and the younger one says she loves the show the most at the park!

5) The earlier it is, the more crowded it is

As explained above, the Night Safari is more crowded close to its opening hours. Some friends were remarking the attraction looked so crowded when I posted a video of the amphitheatre crowd in my Instagram stories. Well, it did look crowded at the tram queue and amphitheatre at 7plus in the evening, but when we were going on the trails around the park, it wasn't crowded at all.

Also note that tourists are returning to Singapore after the easing of COVID restrictions. In fact, when we were there on a Wednesday night, most of the people there looked to be tourists. And given that many countries, including Singapore, have opened up and mask wearing have become optional, most of the visitors we saw then did not wear masks. Actually, only my family and probably less than ten people we saw wore masks.

Honestly, I wasn't quite comfortable with the lack of mask wearing because COVID cases have been rising in Singapore but the good thing is its an outdoor venue and the park - other than at the amphitheatre and tram queues - wasn't crowded on a weekday. We probably wouldn't go on weekends knowing that it would be crowded and most wouldn't be masked up. So if you're concerned about this as well, you might want to avoid going during the weekends too.

6) Budget at least 2 hours

According to the Night Safari website, people spend about 3-4 hours there. We were there for about 2 hours on a Wednesday - this includes the 25-minute show, 20-minute tram ride and the hour-plus of exploring the trails on foot. I'd assume it would take us longer if it was the weekend when you might have to spend time queuing for the tram and some jostling to see the animals?

I would have liked to go for a second tram ride if the girls weren't complaining they were tired after an hour of walking. So if you have young kids, they might not be able to last 3-4 hours at the park. But generally budget at least 2 hours to enjoy the full experience of the park.

7) Bring good walking shoes and umbrella

Wear good walking shoes and bring an umbrella and/or raincoat (most of the park is unsheltered). The tram ride takes you to see many of the animals but to see everything and have a better close-up view, you'll still have to explore the trails on foot. We spy water coolers near the toilets, so you can refill your water bottle at these water coolers.

8) Use of camera flash when taking photos of animals are disallowed

You are not allowed to use camera flash when taking photos of animals at the park. So at most of the trails where lighting is dim, photos don't turn out really nice when you are using a normal phone camera.

But really, don't bother too much about taking photos of the animals when you're at the Night Safari, chances are pictures of the animals wouldn't turn out great because of the lack of lighting. In a way, I actually didn't mind that as it let me focus more on seeing and reading about the animals rather than taking photos and videos like I always do when visiting attractions.

9) Check opening hours before you go

At the time of writing the Night Safari is opened daily from 6.30pm to 12am (last entry at 11.15pm). It is located at 80 Mandai Lake Road Singapore 729826.

10) Read the FAQ if you are taking taxi

We drove to the Night Safari so this is not relevant to us but there is a a huge FAQ section on the Mandai Wildlife Reserve website about taxi surcharges at the park which you might want to check out if you're going by taxi.

Okay, and that is all for the blog post/review I had never intended to write but felt obliged to after visiting the Night Safari! All in all, our family enjoyed the visit and my girls found the experience very interesting, especially since it was their first time there. Ukraine-Russia war: Putin sets conditions for ceasefire - but Ukraine says it is 'complete sham'

Vladimir Putin has promised a ceasefire if Ukraine withdraws its troops from occupied regions, saying Russia would be ready for talks "tomorrow". But Ukraine has dismissed his remarks as a "complete sham", while the US has said Moscow is in "no position" to dictate.

Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) are reportedly investigating alleged Russian cyberattacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure as possible war crimes.

According to sources familiar with the case gathered by Reuters, the probe is examining attacks on infrastructure that endangered lives by disrupting power and water supplies, cutting connections to emergency responders or knocking out mobile data services that transmit air raid warnings.

Ukrainian teams are said to be helping to investigate cyberattacks committed from the beginning of the invasion in February 2022.

Probes could look as far back as 2015, the year after Russia's seizure and annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine.

Moscow has previously denied that it carries out cyberattacks.

The ICC has already issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin over alleged war crimes.

In a statement, the court issued the warrant on suspicion of unlawful deportation of children and unlawful transfer of people from the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

Vladimir Putin has not offered a peace plan to Ukraine but instead set a list of "maximalist demands", says a senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center.

Speaking today at a meeting with Russian foreign ministry officials, Mr Putin said his country would be ready for peace talks "tomorrow" if Ukraine agreed to his demands.

Those include the immediate withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the assurance that Ukraine will give up on its plans to join NATO.

"This is not a peace plan but a series of maximalist demands directed at the West and Ukraine in exchange for ending hostilities," Tatiana Stanovaya posted on X.

"Moscow offers no concessions; there is no scope for compromise."

Timing of Swiss summit

Mr Putin's peace proposal has come the day before world leaders are due to meet in Switzerland to hold an international peace summit.

The high-level gathering is aimed at broadening support for Kyiv's peace plan and dialling up pressure on Moscow to end the conflict.

The timing of Russia's peace plan immediately before the Swiss summit is "with the intention of devaluing it," according to Ms Stanovaya.

She added: "Contrary to the popular belief that 'Putin has time,' he urgently needs to consolidate Russia's military advantage in Ukraine through a 'peace process' to render this superiority irreversible, as Russia may lose its military advantage in the coming year. 

"Thus, Moscow views the Swiss conference as an escalating action against Russia, an effort to solidify an anti-Russian stance globally, and the Kremlin is determined to thwart this."

Putin sowing destabilisation and discord

The Kremlin is also aware that a destabilised Ukraine and a divided West would bring Russia closer to its definition of victory in the conflict.

That, according to Ms Stanovaya, is a key reason for Mr Putin's peace plan announcement.

She argues that the plans are designed to spread division, with some likely attracted to the idea of an immediate ceasefire even if it comes with accepting Russia's demands.

"Putin's immediate goal is to create conditions that would compel Zelenskyy to step down and draw Ukraine into 'negotiations' that would destabilise the state, thereby coercing Kyiv to acquiesce to Russian demands in the future," added Ms Stanovaya.

"This strategy would relieve Russia of the need to continue military action and reduce the necessity for the West to arm Ukraine. 

"At the same time, the 'proposal' is designed to sow discord in the West and appeal to those who desire immediate peace, encouraging support for the Russian 'proposal'." 

The last operational trans-shipping point for Russian gas exports to Europe has reportedly been shelled by Ukraine.

According to Alexei Smirnov, the acting governor of Russia's western Kursk region, Ukraine shelled several settlements including the key town of Sudzha.

Mr Smirnov made no mention of any damage to the gas infrastructure, though said two people were treated for injuries. 

He also said a residential house was destroyed as a result of the shelling.

Russian gas supplies to Europe have plummeted since the start of its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. 

The country supplied a total of about 63.8 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to Europe by various routes in 2022, according to Gazprom data and Reuters calculations. 

The volume declined by 55.6% to 28.3 bcm last year. 

Russia has increasingly centralised their command and control of irregular forces, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.

Irregular military is any non-standard military component that is distinct from a country's national armed forces.

In February 2023, Russia established its Volunteer Corps, uniting over 20,000 volunteers, reservists, mercenaries and ex-convicts, who serve in numerous irregular units.

Since then, more irregular forces have been deployed in Ukraine, mainly as light infantry units which, according to the MoD, "lack integrated artillery or air support". 

As a result of this, the MoD says Russia's irregular forces have likely sustained proportionally higher casualty rates than Russia's regular units over the last nine months.

Ukraine is planning record power imports today following significant infrastructure damage by Russian missile attacks, Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo said. 

Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's energy sector have intensified since March, resulting in blackouts in many regions.

This has forced Kyiv to start large-scale electricity imports from the EU.

A ministry statement said the country would import 31,904 megawatt hours (MWh) of power today versus the previous record of 29,796 MWh on Wednesday.

We have been reporting today on comments made by Vladimir Putin at Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs meeting.

Now, John Foreman, who served as UK defence attache in Moscow from 2019 to 2022, has reminded people to keep the words issued by Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas in 2022 in mind.

At the Munich Security Conference, Ms Kallas had explained Soviet negotiating tactics and noted it was important to "keep that in mind all the time".

She said if the West were to consider offering Russia something when it made demands then Moscow "would get something that [it] didn't have before".

Quoting Soviet-time foreign minister Andrei Gromyko, she noted that he had said negotiation tactics of the Soviet Union involved three things.

"First, demand the maximum," she said.

"Do not ask, but demand something that has never been yours.

"Second, present ultimatums.

"And third, do not give up one inch in negotiations because there will always be people in the West who will offer you something.

"And then in the end you will have one third or even half of something you didn't have before. So we have to keep that in mind all the time."

Vladimir Putin's ceasefire offer cannot be trusted, the Ukrainian president has said. 

Speaking to our partner network Sky TG24, Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned the Russian president would not stop his offensive, even if his demands were met. 

His comments on the sidelines of the G7 summit come after Mr Putin set out a list of requirements he wants Ukraine to meet before negotiations can begin. 

These included Ukraine giving up its plans to join NATO and its troops withdrawing from the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As ever with Vladimir Putin, timing is everything.

It's no coincidence this speech was made on the eve of the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland. 

Russia won't be there as it hasn't been invited. So this was about putting Moscow's side across first and undermining the summit's legitimacy before it's even begun.

Is his peace proposal credible? Not according to Ukraine or the West - Kyiv, NATO and the Pentagon have already all dismissed it.

But the Kremlin sees things very differently, or at least pretends to.

"We didn't start the war," Russia's president said. "It was the Kyiv regime."

According to Mr Putin, Russia is the victim. Hence why he says Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the regions Russia occupies, rather than the other way around.

In reality, he knows these conditions are not something Kyiv will ever agree to. Ceding territory is a red line for Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

But that doesn't matter to Mr Putin. This was more about seizing the initiative ahead of the Switzerland summit, where Mr Zelenskyy will be centre stage. 

As for relations with the West, they are "close to the point of no return", he said. 

What does that mean exactly? 

There was no mention of nuclear weapons this time but it was a bleak assessment nonetheless and one that many in the West might agree with.

It's fair to say relations between Russia and the West have taken a sharp turn for the worse in recent days.

We've had new threats, new sanctions, and new military manoeuvres. 

Then yesterday, to top it off, the G7's $50bn loan deal for Ukraine using frozen Russian assets - a deal Mr Putin called "theft" that will prompt a retaliation.

We don't know what the response will be yet but it's likely to involve the seizure of private US assets in Russia - something that's already been discussed in Moscow. Last month Mr Putin signed a decree outlining how it would work.

It all gives the sense that we're suddenly moving more quickly along the path to possible escalation. And it makes one wonder - where will this end?

US defence secretary Lloyd Austin says Vladimir Putin is not in a position to be telling Ukraine what it must do to achieve peace.

Mr Putin said Russia would be ready for peace talks "tomorrow" if Ukraine agreed to his demands.

Mr Austin argued that Putin could end the war today if he wants to and called on the Russian president to withdraw his troops from Ukrainian territory. 

"He is not in any position to dictate to Ukraine what they must do to bring about peace," Mr Austin told reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels. 

Turkey will tell leaders at this weekend's peace summit in Switzerland that a meeting with both Kyiv and Moscow present will yield more results, a Turkish diplomatic source has said.

Foreign minister Hakan Fidan will join world leaders at the summit, to which Russia is not invited, to reportedly reiterate Turkey's call for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

NATO ally Turkey has sought to maintain good ties with both Kyiv and Moscow during the war, offering to host peace talks or mediate.

"(Fidan) will point out that a summit that all sides attend has a higher probability of yielding results," the source told Reuters.

Turkey supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and provides it with military support, but also opposes Western sanctions on Moscow.

How to Share a Bed While Getting the Best Night’s Sleep

F rank Thewes is used to hearing from people who wake up on the wrong side of bed because of their partner’s sleeping habits—but who don’t want to move into separate rooms. He was one of them, once. “It can be highly symbolic for somebody to consider a sleep divorce,” says Thewes, a couples therapist in Princeton, N.J. “For a lot of people, that’s scary territory, so they want to avoid it.”

Snoozing apart—for even just one or two nights of the week—often ends up being the best decision for a couple. But it’s not the only solution. Thewes has transformed his own sleep life thanks to a variety of new technologies (plus buying the biggest bed he could find), and now he and his wife both enjoy sleeping next to each other. “A heavily-equipped couple is a couple that can have great sleep without a sleep divorce,” he says. “You don’t have to wake up resenting your partner.”

The first step to figuring out a way to make it work is understanding that sleep is highly individualized: we all need a different amount and prefer different hours, says Jeff Kahn, CEO of the sleep tracker app Rise Science . If one person wants to go to bed at 9 p.m. and their partner would rather turn in at 1 a.m., there’s nothing wrong with either of them. “It’s a genetic thing, not a behavioral trait,” he says—and treating it as such can improve relationships. Your wife likes to sleep in until 10 a.m.? She’s not lazy; she needs it, Kahn says. Approaching conversations with that in mind can help you have more empathy for each other and talk out ways to coexist without sacrificing either of your zzz s, he adds.

With that goal in mind, we asked experts how couples can turn a few nightmare scenarios into sweet dreams.

Try a vibrating alarm

Couples who rise together, stay together? Not exactly. Plenty of people who share a bed go to sleep and get up at different times—and it’s important to have a conversation about how it’s working out, says Cali Bahrenfuss, a clinical sleep health educator who owns Delta Sleep Coaching in Sioux Falls, S.D. Ask your partner: “If I come to bed at 11, am I waking you up? Should I come in a little earlier, or a little later?” “A lot of people don’t have that conversation, and making a few small changes can go a long way,” she says.

For example: If one of you gets up way earlier than the other, ditch the screeching loud alarm clock. Instead, opt for a vibrating alarm, advises Shelby Harris, a clinical associate professor of neurology and psychology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. If you wear a smartwatch to bed, you could configure it there; you could also test out the Shake-N-Wake Vibrating Alarm Clock, or one of many similar options available online. Vibrating alarms are typically designed to slide underneath your pillow, and they’re popular among people who are hard-of-hearing, as well as early risers who don’t want to disturb their partner. “They’re really useful for some people,” says Harris, who’s the author of The Women's Guide to Overcoming Insomnia . “I try to get people away from regular clocks if the other person is really sensitive.”

Buy more pillows than you think you need

If your partner is creating light that bothers you, it’s time to build a pillow wall. Everyone should have at least two comfortable pillows, so that couples aren’t fighting over who gets the best one, Thewes says. Then invest in extras that can line the space between the two of you. “If you’re trying to go to sleep and your partner is watching their devices, it's like a tiny wall there, because you can't see over it,” he says.

Test out an eye mask

These days, they come in many different styles, Bahrenfuss points out. Some are marketed as “blackout” masks and designed to block all light; others are made out of silk or are weighted. “Smart masks” are equipped with features like bluetooth headphones and even soothing heat and vibration, taking the eyemask experience to the next level.

Change the temperature of your bed

Thewes runs cool, while his wife tends to be warmer. So who gets the final say on the thermostat? It turns out it doesn't matter: The couple invested in a dual-zone temperature system for their bed. A variety of companies offer contraptions that pump warm or cool into the bed, allowing each person to choose whatever temperature they like best for their own side. BedJet’s system, for example, can blast air that’s between 66°F and 104°F—at the same time. “ It’s brilliant,” Thewes says. “You can’t feel the other person’s [settings] at all. I go on vacation now, and it doesn’t matter how nice the bed is, I’m like, ‘I’m missing the ability to control the temperature.’”

Buy two duvets

If you’d rather stay low tech, consider the Scandinavian sleep method—a fancy term for using two separate duvets (or other covers). That way, you can choose the fabric and weight you like best, or even shake the blanket off altogether. And no one will get mad at their bedmate for hogging the covers. “With two separate blankets, we get to be together in the bed and have individualized control over the sleep experience,” Thewes says. “A blanket is not designed for two opposing styles—‘I roll this way and you roll that way.’ The people don’t have the shortcomings; the blanket does.”

Push two beds together

Some people perform elaborate gymnastics routines while they’re asleep—tossing and turning like it might earn them a prize. If you’re tired of all that motion, consider pushing two XL twin beds together, Bahrenfuss suggests. You can even use a mattress connector to create a practically king-size bed. “The easiest way to remedy the situation—and also remedy temperature control—is to put two beds together,” Bahrenfuss says. “That way your movement isn’t disrupting your partner, and you have access to your own sheet set and comforter. It’s a better way to be able to move around at night without fear of disrupting your partner.” It often works well, she adds, for people with insomnia who frequently leave the bedroom overnight but feel guilty about annoying whoever is on the other side of the bed. It can also be a solution for those who want to share their bed with a pet, much to their partner’s chagrin.

Another option, Bahrenfuss adds, is costlier: Shop around for mattresses like Tempur-Pedic’s that are designed for motion isolation, which means movement on one part shouldn’t be felt elsewhere. You can check out online reviews to help determine if they live up to their claims. But not everyone can afford a new mattress, Bahrenfuss acknowledges—or want to splurge without knowing it will work well for them.

Silence the snoring

Sharing a bed with someone who snores can be disruptive. But keep in mind that snoring—which is caused by an obstruction in the airway—sometimes signals sleep apnea, in which people repeatedly stop and start breathing while they sleep. If the dull roar of your partner’s snoring is keeping you awake, encourage him or her to see a doctor for a sleep study, Harris advises. Treatment with a CPAP machine could make a world of difference for both of you.

Beyond that, take a cue from Thewes and get acquainted with a pair of foam or silicone earplugs, or noise-canceling headphones. “This is the first line of defense if you have a snorer in the bed or somebody who likes to watch TV,” he says. As headphones get more advanced, they’ve also become more comfortable, he notes; he knows people who sleep in Apple AirPods Max, which slide on over the ears, but there are also lots of smaller, in-ear options that you’ll barely feel overnight.

You might consider, too, enlisting the services of a white noise machine. Thewes has been using one for more than 40 years, since he was 5. It helps create a “neutral sound in the room” that can conceal light snoring and other sounds, he says. Keeping a box fan on can also be helpful—some people find it soothing, he says, and it can drown out a good bit of sound. 

Experts agree it’s worth experimenting with a number of options until you figure out what works for you and your partner. “Getting good sleep is a foundational piece of mental health,” Thewes says. “If you can get good sleep and be well-rested, you’re more prepared for internal and external challenges the next day, and that includes being part of a relationship or going to work or being a parent or any other part of your life.”

WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 is right around the corner, so get yourself prepared with the watch info for another international PLE.

The site of WWE's next PLE will be the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Back in May, fans in Lyon, France tore the house down for the Backlash event. Some of their energy even rubbed off on fans in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for King and Queen of the Ring later that month.

It's safe to say that fans in Glasgow will also be loud for their favorite superstars, especially for one of their own.

At this point, fans in the United States are getting used to WWE PLEs running in the afternoon on the East Coast. Clash at the Castle this year is obviously no exception. The PLE will get started at 2 p.m. ET and will air live on the Peacock streaming service this Saturday (June 15).

The countdown show will begin at 1 p.m. ET, and MMA Knockout on Sports Illustrated will be posting a live stream on the homepage before air time.

9 am – Visit the Red Square

The first thing that every tourist should do by default is visit the very heart of Moscow – it’s main and most beautiful (which ‘krasnaya’ actually meant in Old Russian) square! 

There are several ways to explore it:

• Take a selfie with Spasskaya Tower
• Have a warm drink at the Christmas market (which lasts until mid-January)
• Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum
• Shop in the gorgeous adjacent GUM department store
• Visit St. Basil’s Cathedral (and learn that it’s actually several churches under one roof).           

11 am – It’s Kremlin time! 

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Entering the Kremlin is, actually, a bit of a quest, as it’s a presidential facility with no general access. You need to buy a ticket or, better still, book a guided tour. Inside the Kremlin’s walls, you will find ancient cathedrals, in which Russian tsars used to be crowned and buried, as well as explore the magnificent architecture of the Kremlin that reflects the rich history of the country. And, finally, you could also make a quick visit to the Moscow Kremlin Museums and admire artifacts from various Russian tsarist eras: carriages, thrones, crowns and the most incredible armory and jewelry.

2 pm – Watch the changing of the Guard

A very spectacular (and free) thing to do is watch how the honor guard does their ceremonial change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame, situated in Alexander Garden, right next to the Kremlin wall. Every hour, from 8 am to 8 pm, the 1st Company of the Kremlin (Presidential) Regiment performs this rather old and beautiful tradition. But, be warned, it's often overcrowded. 

3 pm – Enjoy a green oasis just in the center

Florarium in Zaryadye

Just a few steps from the Red Square, you will find the fabulous Zaryadye park. Opened in 2017, it is designed by renowned American architect bureau ‘Diller Scofidio + Renfro’. You can walk among the very cozy botanical decorations and explore Russia’s climate zones, as each of them is represented in dedicated areas, complete with flora from those zones.

The park also has an underground museum, an “ice cave” and a 3D cinema, where you can take part in a virtual adventure – a flight over Moscow! However, the piece de resistance is a floating boomerang bridge over the Moskva River, one of the best places to take a selfie.

You can also grab a quick lunch or relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the park.

7 pm – Arrange a ballet night

The Bolshoi Theater

Of course, the most fancy way to finish your day in Moscow would be to go to the ballet at the Bolshoi Theater (in a perfect world, to see ‘The Nutcracker’!). However, getting tickets to the Bolshoi is not an easy task and should be done well in advance of your visit. 

But, don’t be upset if you don’t manage to get tickets to the Bolshoi. Moscow has dozens of other options to see a ballet (or opera). No less brilliant performances can be seen in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater or in The State Kremlin Palace (by the way, this is another way to get a quick glimpse inside the Kremlin!).

10:30 pm – Have a late dinner in a fancy restaurant

There are not so many other cities with such a big choice of restaurants in a range of tastes and styles. In 2021, the authoritative Michelin guide announced their pick of the best of Moscow’s restaurants. And here’s our guide to all the places with Russian cuisine for any budget. But, if you happen to be in the area of the Bolshoi or Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater, then ‘Dr. Zhivago’ would definitely be a nice option (and it’s open around the clock).

DAY 2 

9 am – grab a moscow coffee.

Moscow is definitely a coffee city! You can find coffee shops on every corner and they all offer a huge range of drinks. Try a ‘raf’ coffee, a sweet, creamy drink that was created in Russia, or dare to pick one of the very unusual offers, like cheese coffee or a Soviet candy style one (check out our coffee guide here ).

10 am – Take a river cruise

Another exciting way to explore Moscow is to observe it from the water. Boats cruise along the Moskva River all year round. Most begin their route from the Hotel Ukraine, one of Stalin's ‘Seven Sister’ skyscrapers, and will bring you back to the same spot after passing the medieval Novodevichy Convent, Moscow State University and Luzhniki Stadium, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and giant monument to Peter the Great and many other sightseeings. 

It’s always at optimum temperature inside the boat, which also has huge panoramic windows. Select boats also offer a full dining experience, so it is also a nice place to have breakfast or lunch.

1 pm – Visit ‘Russia’ Expo and taste a bunch of Russian regional cuisines

Until April 2024, the Soviet-era VDNKh exhibition park is hosting the huge ‘Russia’ expo, with tons of activities and expositions devoted to Russia, its culture, science and nature. Check out our special guide on what to do there!  

An entire ‘House of Russian Cuisine’ has been opened at the expo. You will find 15 food stands with flagship dishes from Kamchatka, Siberia, Karelia and other regions of Russia. Imagine trying a range of cuisines and dishes in one place without even having to travel anywhere, be it Altai pelmeni, Tula kalach or Caucasian pies! A perfect place to grab some lunch.

The VDNKh exhibition park is a great place to visit, in general! Its pavilions are the perfect example of Stalinit Empire style architecture and you can almost feel as if you’ve traveled back in time! You will also find several interesting museums in the park – devoted to space exploration, Russian history and even a ‘Special Purpose Garage’, which showcases the various vehicles used by the country’s leaders.

And, finally, you can ride Europe's tallest panoramic wheel – ‘Sun of Moscow’ – that will give you panoramic views of the city – from a height of 140 meters!

5 pm – Ice skate with view & mulled wine

Ice skating is one of the most popular and affordable activities in Moscow. There are several great ice skating rinks in picturesque locations that are open all winter long. One of the biggest rinks in Europe is also at the aforementioned VDNKh or you can visit the one in Gorky Park, another very popular Moscow spot, or the small, but fancy rink – right on Red Square! 

All the parks offer ice skate rental, so the only things you need are warm clothes, a charged phone to record your memories and a good mood!  Moscow also gets dark at 4:30 pm in winter and hundreds of lights are switched on, turning the city into a giant fairy tale!

And, if you are not a sports person, we’ve picked several other unusual activities that you could do in Moscow instead. For example, did you know that there is an entire district of dacha (countryside) houses, just 10 minutes from the center, surrounded by giant new highrises? How about taking a stroll there and feeling the early Soviet atmosphere?

8 pm – Warm up & laugh out loud

After all these outdoor activities, what could be better than a warm cozy bar with a hot drink and nice company? Moscow is a city full of entertainment for all tastes. So, if you know the Russian language or want to practice it, go to a theater or catch a stand-up comedy show. Moscow even has comedy shows in English, where you can hear both Russians speaking fluent English or foreigners (including Brits and Americans) who live in Russia speaking in broken or heavily-accented Russian (Check their show dates on the ‘ Moscow English Comedy ’ Telegram channel)!

11 pm – Finish by partying the night away!

Moscow never sleeps, as you might have heard. Which means there are plenty of bars and nightclubs where you can have a drink (or two or three; be sure to check out how Russians make Black Russian and White Russian cocktails) and chat with incredibly different people. Have fun and don’t miss your flight (or miss it and stay longer in the best city in the world!)!

White nights festival - russia's biggest celebration.

World festivals mark global events that are a must-see for any dedicated traveler. Although lesser known than major global favorites like Carnival or Burning Man , the White Nights Festival in Russia is a collision of culture, arts and music that provides one of the richest experience around.

Every May through July, the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia, come alive with colorful celebrations and performances by some of the world's most talented artists. The White Nights Festival is an international arts festival that takes place during the season of the midnight sun, when the Northern Light shines at both dawn and dusk, allowing the millions of festival-goers that visit each year the opportunity to celebrate all day and all night long.

A Cultural Celebration of Music and Arts

The festival celebrates the arts of opera, ballet, and classical music and is kicked off with the "Stars of the White Nights" at the world famous Mariinsky Theatre. The program presents the company's most exceptional productions, with performances by leading Russian and international artists, and combines famous historical productions along with new premieres and contemporary pieces. This year's program kicks off on May 27th and has featured nationally renowned productions like Swan Lake in the past. During the festival there are daily evening performances of either ballet or opera at the theatre and classical or opera musical performances at the Mariinsky Concert Hall. The series of performances always features some of the biggest names in the arts world, including famed Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, Russian operatic soprano Anna Netrebko , and Los Angeles Opera conductor James Conlon. Ballet performances have included revivals of Russian choreographer George Balanchine's classics, as well as contemporary dance versions of The Nutcracker and Cinderella. The performances are all widely attended and visitors' best bet would be to purchase tickets online in advance.

Carnivals - Fun for the Whole Family

Carnivals also occur during the White Nights Festival and allow both children and adults to delight in traditional games and fine food. The largest carnival is held in the suburb of Peterhof, where historical figures and events are reinterpreted by costumed actors. Carnivals at the Catherine Palace and in the Pavlovsk suburb of St. Petersburg are also known for their highly artistic reproductions of the historic events that took place at those palaces. For music lovers, St. Petersburg's Palace Square becomes home to some of the international music world's biggest stars during the festival. The large square has been used for official military parades and massive demonstrations, and has also been the site of recent concerts by legendary musicians like Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones.

Fireworks and Finales

The culminating event of the festival is the Scarlet Sails celebration, which is a massive event to celebrate the end of the school year that is known for its spectacular fireworks display and a water show that features boats full of pirates battling on the Neva River. Musical acts and motorboat and rowing races are also highlights of the celebration. The tradition began in St. Petersburg after the end of WWII, when several schools in Leningrad united to celebrate the ending of a school year in connection with symbolism of the popular children's book "Scarlet Sails" by Alexander Grin. At the first celebration a boat with scarlet sails sailed along the English Embankment and the Admiralty Embankment towards the Winter Palace.

The prices are reasonable, and the staff is extremely efficient at this place. 

Located in Pokrovsky Boulevard, Mono Bar is a famous hangout spot for people from the LGBTQIA community. The club was started in 2014 and, since then, has gained a lot of regular customers. Mostly you will be able to hear European as well as Russian music at this club. There is a balcony which is the smoking area. If you want to meet more people, it is ideal for visiting this place after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. 

After-party clubs in Moscow

You have to ring the doorbell to get inside the club. The walls are made up of exposed concrete. The main venue downstairs is properly lit. Lime-stone staircase, wooden beams, and bar stools give the place a vintage vibe. The DJs mostly play Electronic music at this pub. One of the most exciting features of this club is that there are no menus. It would be best to inform the bartender what you want to drink, and he will serve it to you. Do not worry, as all the mixologists can converse in English. 

This after-party venue makes you feel like you have been transported to Berlin. The interiors of this place have an industrial feel to them. During the day, this acts as a bike repair shop. But at night, you can party at Entuziast till late at night. Mostly the hipsters tend to party at this place. The bar is made up of metal, and you can see racing flags all over the place. You can get a wide array of choices when it comes to beers and cider. Craft beer is extremely popular at this joint.  During the summers, you can sit outside on the beach chairs arranged on the deck. The snacks are light and ideal for eating with a pint of beer.
