Visit Umiam Lake: This lake is situated at the Shillong-Guwahati highway, the best time to visit here is 9.00 am to 5.00pm. This is best place for photographers and artist because the view of lake is too good to watch. This place is so relaxing and peaceful, here you can do some activities like sailing, fishing, cruising, water scooter diving. In umiam lake there are also some small island, and one side is surrounded by forest.

Shillong - Cherrapunji - Shillong

1. Visit to seven sister falls, 2. Nahkhalikai Falls, 3. Mawsmai Cave

Visit to seven sister falls: As it name suggest, seven sister falls has seven different waterfalls which is arranged accordingly on a very high rocky peak. This waterfalls looks remarkable even from the distance. The view becomes totally eye capturing when the rain comes and the entire zone comes alive.

Nahkhalikai Falls: This waterfall is located near Cherrapunji. It is known as the tallest waterfall in India. The view of this waterfall is so mesmerising in monsoon season that's why its good for photographers for capturing images.

Mawsmai Cave: Mawsmai Cave is nearby Sohra. In Cherrapunji, this is the only cave around which is fully lighted and among the very few which is opened for a tourist. It consist of impressive formation of large passages and chambers. The formation of the rock is something which gave you a surprise because this kind of formation of rock in different shapes and sizes is also new to everyone. Overall the cave is amazing and magnificent natural wonder. It is most revered landmarks in Cherrapunji.

1. Koh Ram Hoh & Eco-Park, 2. Nohkalikai Waterfalls

Koh Ram Hoh & Eco-Park: This place is the main attraction of visitors. It is known by the name of Mothorp and Pillar Rock. The major thing here is attractive shaped rock and this rock is covered by two smaller rocks and this can be picnic spot as well for tourist. According to some viewers these cone shaped rock is belonged to some evil spirit.

Nohkalikai Waterfalls: This waterfalls is located 54 km far from Shilong and it is consider as one of the tallest waterfalls in India. This spectacular waterfall shows marvellous structure of nature in itself. Travellers can have fun to standing under the waterfall and experience the lush green cliff. There are lots of fascinating legends are affiliated with this place that makes it more attractive and interesting. • AC will not be functional anywhere in cool or hilly areas.
• Entrance fee, parking and guide charges are not included in the packages.
• If your flights involve a combination of different airlines, you may have to collect your luggage on arrival at the connecting hub and register it again while checking in for the onward journey to your destination.
• Booking rates are subject to change without prior notice.
• Airline seats and hotel rooms are subject to availability at the time of booking.
• Pricing of the booking is based on the age of the passengers. Please make sure you enter the correct age of passengers at the time of booking. Passengers furnishing incorrect age details may incur penalty at the time of travelling.
• In case of unavailability in the listed hotels, arrangement for an alternate accommodation will be made in a hotel of similar standard.
• In case your package needs to be cancelled due to any natural calamity, weather conditions etc. GoingBo shall strive to give you the maximum possible refund subject to the agreement made with our trade partners/vendors.
• GBO reserves the right to modify the itinerary at any point, due to reasons including but not limited to: Force Majeure events, strikes, fairs, festivals, weather conditions, traffic problems, overbooking of hotels / flights, cancellation / re-routing of flights, closure of /entry restrictions at a place of visit, etc. While we will do our best to make suitable alternate arrangements, we would not be held liable for any refunds/compensation claims arising out of this.
• Certain hotels may ask for a security deposit during check-in, which is refundable at check-out subject to the hotel policy.

It is walkable distance from the hotel to the market. The room was really nice. I went with my friend so we got a separate bed, unexpected that we will get the big room like this because there is two connecting room in one room. It is perfect for the family traveller. The toilet is clean and hot shower is available. The gate will close at 10 PM or 11 PM( I could not remember exactly, please come back before time. Breakfast is included. Because it is out of the centre, therefore, I quite like this place. I don't like noisy area.

It is a good resort to take total rest far from the madding crowd amidst forest greenery on the top of a valley with a partial view of the Lake Umium (Barapani). The room is cozy with an attached bath equipped with all modern furniture and fittings of latest design. Our 2-day's stay was very comfortable full of luxury. The quality and varieties of food supplied from the kitchen is superb. Regarding Cons, the location is so remote that none can move to any place outside (not even to the Lake for boating) without a cab. Secondly, the Restaurant of the resort is under construction and no supply of even filtered water is available in the rooms for drinking --- you will have to purchase double-priced mineral water for your needs. Thirdly, Intercom facility is yet to be introduced --- and so you have to call the Caretaker over your phone for your all needs and queries. However, the service of the caretaker named "Bishnu" was found excellent and our stay was very comfortable.

We spent the Christmas eve + a couple of days at Habitat this year. As the other reviewers have pointed out, this is a very clean property tucked away in a one way lane in one corner of the city. However, Police Bazar, the main shopping area is hardly 3 kms from this place. One of the biggest attractions of Shillong, the Don Bosco Cathedral is just a stone's throw away and you have a few good eateries (Cafe Shillong etc) within walking distance. Coming to the property, we just loved it. The rooms were tastefully decorated and extremely clean. So were the washrooms. The breakfast, though of limited options, was tasty. The fact I liked more is that there weren't a plethora of choices which finally gets untouched or hardly consumed - that situation, in a typical hotel industry, lead to recycling of those items at a later point in time. So I was assured of the freshness of our breakfast and other meals. We had dinner at the hotel - the menu is fixed for the day but you have the option to either go for a full meal or opt for just portions of it - that was suggested to us and was really helpful to balance out quantity needed and overall costing. And of course, the dishes were really tasty. The rooms are slightly smaller but definitely manageable and the library, lobbies and other sit outs are free for all to use when needed. The beds, quite comfortable for 2 adults and one kid - we had nice sleep on all the nights :o) Lastly - the service staff were extremely helpful and courteous. It was them whose involvement made our stay so memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a decent stay in Shillong. Note: If you're driving down on your own, keep in mind that the parking lot is a cramped one. We didn't face that issue.

From the beginning we weren’t pleased. Reception staff quiet unwelcoming and the entrance is through a dirty car park. We requested a non smoking room but got a room that absolutely smelt of smoke and they were unhelpful when we asked to change. The bed was one of the hardest beds we have had in India and just looked good in the photo but in reality was terrible. We foolishly included breakfast and when we were taken the next morning to a neighbouring sweet store to order a breakfast from a menu which ended up not being applicable that day. Instead we were given half an omelette and some stale bread. All in all we were so surprised it was this expensive when it’s location was still inconveniently distanced from any public transport to police bazar. When we requested boiled water politely. It never arrived which wasn’t a surprise to us.

Good hospitality, location, food. All good, just if you're a business traveller, avoid this one. We stayed here for 3 days, all was going smooth, until the checkout day, when we told the hotel staff at 12:45 to book a taxi for us to reach guwahati airport as we had a flight at 16:55, usually it takes 10 mins to get a taxi, someone at the hotel reception decided to take this matter and use it as an opportunity to get a small commission, and called a taxi that arrived around 1400hrs, the commission transaction happened in front of us, nevertheless, we were doomed to miss the flight, on our way to the airport, the guy who was driving tried his best to make it in time, as he started dring crazy, we had to tell him not to drive rash. Anyway, we reached airport after 1710, missing the flight, we had to reach Delhi in order to catch our next flight to pune. We booked new flight that cost us 16000. We wrote to the owner about this and received not a single reply not even an apology.

There location is good, as it's in the middle of town with lots of activity around. The hotel left us wanting. Here are a few challenges we encountered which effected our experience. 1. You cannot adjust the temperature in the room. (They offered a fan for the night, which did help.) 2. They wanted to keep our passports to be returned later!!! I insisted on waiting for them. The staff person was not pleased. You should never have to leave your passport if you are not comfortable doing so. 3. We were originally put in a room that was across the hall from the kitchen. Kitchen smells permeated the room! They did move us upon request. We can't believe anyone could stay in a room with those smells, and wondered why it was a room. 4. There was obvious mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. When we asked them to come clean it, they came and tried with a mop, but couldn't clean it til the next day as someone had taken their ladder. I wouldn't stay there again.

Weather in Meghalaya

Meghalaya is blessed with pleasant weather because it is a hilly region. It has a cold climate in winters and less heat in summer. The average daily maximum temperature is just 30 degrees celsius. The climate in Meghalaya is considered to be pleasant most of the time. The best time would be during monsoons when the waterfalls have the best sight. Or you can visit from October to March when you can find good hotels at reasonable prices. Remember that the climate here is quite humid, so you need to carry your outfits accordingly. Meghalaya can be visited during monsoons as well as during the winter season.

How to reach Meghalaya

For reaching Mehalaya you have to first reach Guwahati from where you can hire a cab to visit Meghalaya. Budget travellers choose to travel by bus as it is quite cheap, but it is not always comfortable. There are many tourist buses available to choose from. However, the buses are quite slow, therefore, many people favour hiring cabs from Guwahati to reach Meghalaya. There is a helicopter service here that can be used to travel to Meghalaya. People like this route as it takes just 20 minutes via helicopter to reach Shillong from Guwahati this way. The drawback is that this service is not available for tourists on Sundays. You can also hire a Guwahati to Shillong Taxi to reach Meghalaya from Assam by road. It takes around 2-3 hours to reach from Guwahati to Shillong.

Meghalaya is one of the safest places for people travelling alone. Solo travellers can enjoy their trip without any worry.

Cherrapunji and Mawsynram are not the same places. These two places are approximately 10 miles away from each other.

It is not compulsory to hire a guide with you for trekking the Double Decker Living Root Bridge as the route is marked properly and the route also has staircases to make the trekking organised.

The river in Dawki, Meghalaya named the Umngot River is the cleanest river in India. Its water is transparent to an extent that the river bed can be seen, especially while boating. You can also do Camping at Dawki, Shnongpdeng while you are in Dawki.

Meghalaya is home to the two wettest places on earth, Mawsynram and Cherrapunji. It is known as ‘abode of clouds’ as it has maximum rainfall due to its geographical location. This makes Meghalaya unique.

Meghalaya is famous for its spectacular waterfalls, lakes, caves, root bridges, parks, culture and warm & welcoming people.

The word “Megh” means “clouds” in Sanskrit, and the term “alaya” means “abode” in this language. That’s how this state got its name. 

Homestays in Meghalaya are safe and also a more affordable accommodation option to stay in Meghalaya.

The lush green forests, the beautiful waterfalls, the rainfall and crystal clear water bodies make Meghalaya a must-visit for tourists.

Normally it doesn’t snow in Meghalaya but sometimes during the winter season, there is a snowfall particularly when the weather is rainy and cold.

We recommend sparing at least 4 days and 3 nights to explore Meghalaya. However, you can also spend a week-long vacation here and visit maximum tourist attractions.
