well this song is great it is about operation ivy breaking up
Great song summing up the late operation ivy... Why hasn't anyone posted on the rancid lyrics?
interesting third verse summing up the attitude of outsiders to the east bay punk scene, and it was great of the guys to remind everyone of operation ivy, great song. J.
this song seems to be more about closure rather than the greatness of operation ivy. tim reflects about his previous band and asks himself what went wrong with such a great thing. he doesnt glorify operation ivy so much as he describes the foolishness of the group of kids that tried to take on the world. their mixed feelings of ambition and exhaustion as their fans became more and more demanding were part of what drove the band apart. tim seems to look back his earlier days with mixed emotions and realize the lessons to be learned
No NO nO....the song is aobut the hourney to the end of there FRIENDSHIP and the verse "Started in '87 ended in '89, you got a garage or an amp, we'll play anytime
It was just the four of us, yea the core of us ,too much attention unavoidably destroyed us" os all about opt ivy....i really liked the band......i didnt know them then cuz i was just born when they started and i was 2 when they ended! so dont know much about them!
this is probably one of my favorite rancid song's....but then again, they are all great. it is a song that you can sing along to
agreed, this is a great song, about opt ivy, another great band which will go down in thee history books of us all
yeah, this song is about Operation Ivy...Kick ass band!
so what are sum other good songs by rancid?

Journey To The End Of The East Bay by Rancid
SongfactsÂź:
- This song was written by Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong and is about the days he and bass player Matt Freeman spent in their previous band, Operation Ivy (1987-1989). Operation Ivy actually disbanded because they were becoming too popular, hence the lyric, "Too much attention unavoidably destroyed us." >> Suggestion credit : Kieran - Mount Gambier, Australia
- The East Bay is in San Francisco, where punk rock flourished. Most of the bands that played there in the '80s stayed underground, but in the '90s, acts like Rancid, Green Day and The Offspring emerged from the scene to go mainstream.
- This song was part of Rancid's third album, ...And Out Come The Wolves , which made them far too popular for the tiny clubs of their come-up. Tim Armstrong had mixed feelings about their success; he didn't like the idea of backstage passes and press parties.

Windir - Journey to the End Lyrics
Artist: Windir
Album: 1184
Genre: Rock
A vague shadow lurking in the dark, A sane man's worst nightmare, A vision containing death, As a wake in honour of himself, For equal sane mortals, It's a nightmare becoming real, But I, I see it as the Final clause of a neverending deal, I embraced my vision, as it was common for me, A fate, a destiny, an inevitable early death Finally I'm dead, And the vision is revealed for everyone else (faelfilth)

Rancid is an American punk rock band formed in Berkeley, California in 1991. Founded by 80s punk veterans Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, both of whom previously played in the highly influential ska punk band Operation Ivy, Rancid is creditedâalong with Green Day and The Offspringâfor reviving mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States during the mid-1990s. Unlike Green Day and The Offspring however, Rancid remained signed to an independent record label and retained much of its original fan-base, most of which was connected to its underground roots. more »

10 Best Karaoke Songs of All Time Guaranteed to Shake the Room
K araoke is an excellent way to spend a night out on the town, enjoying the company of friends and strangers alike, and engaging in some crowd-wide bonding , provided youâve chosen an appropriate song. There is truly something magical about belting out your favorite tunes to a backing chorus of raucous applause, with an optional side of alcoholic beverages .
Of course, not all karaoke songs are equal in quality. Some tracks have a special ability to inspire the crowd, taking your average pop single to new heights, while others languish in relative obscurity. For those struggling to find the right song, hereâs a list of 10 of the best karaoke songs you could possibly pick, guaranteed to blow the top off of the establishment. From timeless dance classics to generational anthems, these are the 10 best karaoke songs of all time.
10. âDonât Stop Believin'â by Journey
If your aim is to get everyone in the room singing along with you, or just to trigger the fight-or-flight response in a fan of The Sopranos , âDonât Stop Believin'â by Journey is one of the best karaoke songs you can choose. This anthem needs no introduction, as the iconic track has become a cultural phenomenon, commonly played at proms, reunions, bars, and other party settings. Its memorable piano intro is sure to perk up the ears of those only half-tuning in, while its soaring chorus gives you an opportunity to flex your vocal cords on the main stage. The inspirational lyrics and messages of positivity and perseverance make âDonât Stop Believin'â an uplifting anthem sure to shake the room, and punctuate your karaoke experience with an unforgettable groove.
9. âJuiceâ by Lizzo
Clocking in at number 9 on our list is a relatively new song that is as bold and vibrant as they come. While âJuiceâ by Lizzo may not have had enough time in the cultural zeitgeist to reach each and every partygoer at your karaoke event, the infectious anthemâs funky baseline and catchy chorus surely makes it a hit amongst crowds of all creeds. The track packs a punch of sass and attitude that makes it impossible to stand still, providing you with a chance to ooze charisma on stage, and liven a quiet event. âJuiceâ is a guaranteed mood-booster, sure to leave a lasting impression on every other karaoke participant of the evening. Unless another singer takes the stage to perform one of the other high-quality tracks on this list, youâre guaranteed to be the highlight of the evening with this one.
8. âRegulateâ by Warren G & Nate Dogg
Hip hop tracks tend to be a little too verbose and fast-paced for most people to sing-along with, though there are a few notable exceptions. For those party-goers who prefer a rap-centric tracklist, the best karaoke song is surely the G-funk anthem âRegulateâ by Warren G and Nate Dogg. This hip hop classic blends a smooth, laid-back beat with irresistibly groovy vocal melodies, offering those who choose the song an opportunity to slow things down for the evening in the best way possible. From the iconic opening riffs to the silky tones of the late, great Nate Dogg, this track offers a timeless appeal loaded with infectious energy. Luckily, this song also requires very little vocal range, making it ideal for karaoke singers with less confidence to find their voice. By the time you reach the closing croons on the back-end of âRegulate,â your cool-factor will have risen exponentially.
7. âNo Scrubsâ by TLC
Sometimes, you just need to take the stage to provide an informed opinion on what exactly constitutes a scrub. In case you need a refresher, this track opens with the powerful lyrical statement â a scrub is a guy who thinks heâs fly, and is also known as a buster. â This empowering track is one of the best karaoke songs of all time, serving as a fierce self-worth anthem for women and a hilariously self-aware jaunt for men. The harmonies of âNo Scrubsâ may be slightly more treacherous to traverse in front of a crowd than something more laid-back like âRegulate,â though fans of the hard-hitting song will surely assist with backing vocals from the comfort of the crowd. TLCâs unapologetic attitude on this track is part of what cemented the group as a musical force to be reckoned with, making âNo Scrubsâ one of their biggest tracks of all time.
6. âI Want It That Wayâ by the Backstreet Boys
Number 6 on our list is âI Want It That Way,â originally performed by the Backstreet Boys. However, depending on your age, you may know this song best as the track performed by the police lineup in a viral cold-open of Brooklyn Nine-Nine , or the basis of a hilarious parody about strange purchases made on Ebay by Weird Al Yankovic. Any way you slice it, this iconic ballad is the karaoke staple that you need to take your big night on the town to the next level. The infectious crooning and heavenly harmonization makes the 1999 hit a major crowd-pleaser, while the lyrics about unrequited love and differences of worldview within a relationship allow everyone in the building to relate. âI Want It That Wayâ is a nostalgia trip to the turn of the century, making it a perfect throwback for the karaoke stage.
5. âSay My Nameâ by Destinyâs Child
Speaking of a nostalgia trip, the next option on our list of best karaoke songs of all time is the R&B masterpiece âSay My Nameâ by the inimitable Destinyâs Child . If your friends hear the opening lyrics to this iconic jam and donât immediately launch into a fervor, you need new friends. The infectious harmonies, soulful instrumentation, and simple yet effective lyrics make this love ballad of suspicion and betrayal a karaoke favorite, rife with opportunity to bring the house down. While you may not have a realistic shot at mimicking the impeccable vocal delivery of the original song, karaoke is all about cutting loose and having fun, regardless of your sonic capabilities. Having said that, this may be considered an expert-level karaoke song, reserved for dive-bar veterans and those who have logged their 10,000 hours of singing in the shower at home.
4. âI Wanna Dance With Somebodyâ by Whitney Houston
This list simply wouldnât be complete without at least one iconic vocal performance by Whitney Houston. While there are many incredible karaoke songs to choose from the multi-platinum selling singer known as âthe voice,â âI Wanna Dance With Somebodyâ is the best. The timeless and electrifying pop hit holds an unmatchable energy, and an upbeat tempo which commands listeners to leap from their seats and bust a move on the dance floor. If you need a feel-good vibe to lift the spirits of the karaoke establishment, you canât do much better than this spectacular jam.
3. âPurple Rainâ by Prince
Rounding out the top 3 best karaoke songs of all time is âPurple Rainâ by Prince. The transcendent power ballad takes listeners on an emotional journey unlike any other, with haunting guitar riffs and soulful melodies that demand a masterful performance. Unlike many of the other songs on this list, âPurple Rainâ may not inspire the entire room to burst into a sing-along with you, as most fans are familiar with only a handful of the lyrics, making this pick something of a tight-rope walk. Still, if youâre confident with your public singing skills, busting this song out on the big stage will make you the highlight of the night. The raw passion and emotional resonance present in the track are difficult to nail in one try, as the unparalleled genius of Prince continues to shock audiences to this day.
2. âBohemian Rhapsodyâ by Queen
Our penultimate pick for best karaoke song of all time is the timeless genre-blending rock opera from Queen, âBohemian Rhapsody.â If you donât mind having your voice drowned out by the entire room full of people guaranteed to be scream-singing along with you, this is the end-all be-all of karaoke favorites. From the haunting beauty of lyrical passages like â Mama, just killed a man. Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now heâs dead. Mama, life had just begun, but now Iâve gone and thrown it all away â to the thunderously rocking refrain â Galileo Figaro â this theatrical mixture of vibes and sounds will transport the club into a new dimension of rock and roll. This song may be viewed as an easy pick, since someone is all but bound to whip this hit out at any given karaoke party, but thereâs a reason why the classics are classics.
1. âI Will Surviveâ by Gloria Gaynor
The undisputed GOAT of karaoke songs is the triumphant anthem âI Will Surviveâ by the living legend Gloria Gaynor. The timeless disco-funk hit offers some of the finest instrumentation in the history of music, with lyrics that offer a declaration of strength and empowerment. From the moment you press play, âI Will Surviveâ is 100 percent guaranteed to electrify the crowd, blowing the roof off the establishment and cementing your place as the king or queen of the stage. This spirited song allows your powerful voice to shine through, with plenty of prolonged instrumental solos to catch your breath and cut a jig on the stage.
No matter your karaoke mastery, choosing this song showcases your indefinable spirit and unwavering confidence, and captures the very essence of karaoke as a fun and lively evening activity. With all this in mind, go forth, and sing with reckless abandon, dance like nobody is watching, and enjoy your delightful evening in the company of friends old and new.

Catching up with Ma Lo Ma, the Coke Studio Bangla song ruling your Instagram Reels
Coke studio bangla's "ma lo ma" is a song about inevitable transitions of life and not just bangladesh, the world is catching up to it..
Listen to Story
There are songs that make you fall in love and then there are others that give you motivation. There are ghazals that make you yearn for your lost love, and then, of course, the jazz that makes you want to dance the night away. But how many songs actually make you want to ponder your life’s choices, the journey of life and the dualities of adulthood?
Coke Studio Bangla Season 3 has released its second song "Ma Lo Ma" which has kind of caught up with music enthusiasts across borders. With the rap and folklore brought together in the Bangladeshi song, it is a perfect example of modernity meets tradition.
Listen to the song here:
Produced by Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, “Ma Lo Ma” is sung by Pritom Hasan, Shagor Dewan and Arif Dewan. It is Shagor and Arif’s ancestors who were the original writers of the song “Ma Lo Ma Jhi Lo Jhi”.
They are fourth-generation singers and are synonymous with the folk song genre pala gaan (old performative form that involves the reciting and singing of long narrative oral verses accompanied by mimetic gestures ) .
The brilliant rap, on the other hand, which adds a modern edge to the song, has been done by Aly Hasan.
Trending on YouTube and Instagram
Ma Lo Ma: What does it mean?
The song starts with the chorus sung by Arif Dewan which goes like this –
Ma lo ma, jhi lo jhi
This translates to: Mother, O mother, Daughter, O Daughter
Boin lo boin, ami korlam ki
This translates to: Sister, O sister, see what I have done here!
Ronge bhanga nouka
This translates to: Just playfully I came to row
Baite anlam gange
This translates to: A broken boat in this riverway
This folk fusion song beautifully captures the journey of life, using powerful metaphors like a broken boat representing life's challenges while river symbolises the world. Through these images, the song explores themes of personal growth and discovery, offering a reflection on the inevitable life changes.
According to the description on YouTube:
“#MALOMA embodies the realisation that life is a journey where the inevitability of adulting and nostalgia work as two sides of a coin. As we grow up, there comes a time echoing the question: 'What am I doing here?' But within this very questioning lies the potential for a beautiful transformation, a self-acceptance that allows us to bloom even in the most demanding seasons. This folk fusion song serves as a conversation acknowledging this inevitable shift, using the metaphor of a broken boat symbolising life and a river symbolising the world.”
There’s another poignant part which evokes nostalgia about our own childhood when singer Shagor Dewan reminisces about his days as a child.
Chilam shishu chilam bhalo
This translates to: I was a child, I was good
Naa chilo shongsharer jala
This translates to : There was no family pressure
Sadai thakitam maa-er shonge
This translates to: I used to be with my mother always
Amar dehete ailo juwani
This translates to: And then, adulthood hit
These lyrics resonate with everyone. As children, we have nothing to worry about, and our world revolves around our mother's protection. However, inevitably, we must step out of that sheltered environment and confront the real world's hardships. This song eloquently captures life's transitions, both universal and personal, in various phases.
The composition gains depth from the infusion of "Chaad Petano Gaan," a form of Shaari Gaan rooted in folk traditions dating back to the Mughal Era. It was later adopted by labourers and building masons working in the urban landscape during the 80s and 90s. The unique musical style merges rhythm and melody with the labourers' toilsome work.

You don't have to be proficient in Bangla to enjoy the song. In case you haven't watched the music video of "Ma Lo Ma" yet, go and enjoy it now.

Tyler Tafolla was clear on what he wanted for his birthday last year and made it happen â a live table reading with friends of one of his favorite Muppet movies, âMuppet Treasure Island.â Not much of a surprise for the composer, lyricist, writer, and passionate fan of musical theater.
âWe all sat at a long table on a makeshift stage in my friendâs backyard. We had scripts and pirate outfits on, and we invited a bunch of friends,â he says. âOur group of eight performed all the characters, sang all the songs, and it was just a very silly evening where we could all laugh and celebrate one of our favorite movies, all our favorite parts and lines, and just put on a show for our friends.â
Later, one of his friends said they wished they could all put on their own Muppet show. That was the beginning of an idea that led to âTyler Tafolla Presents: Movinâ Right Along, a Tribute Concertâ at 8 p.m. May 25 at the City Heights Performance Annex. Itâs a cabaret-style concert featuring his and the castâs favorite songs from Jim Hensonâs extensive library of classics, he says.
Tafolla, 29, grew up in Ocean Beach and lives there today, with his wife, Megan, and their daughter, Lily. He earned a bachelorâs degree in musical theater from the AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy) in Los Angeles, where he wrote and produced his first musical, âScott Robbins and the Traveling Show,â which he later staged at Diversionary Theatre in 2022 . He took some time to talk about the immense creative influence of Jim Henson, the magic of musicals, and the animated films he can quote by heart (and recorded evidence of on TikTok, @tyleratafolla ).
Q: âMovinâ Right Alongâ is a celebration of the life and work of Jim Henson, the famed creator behind âThe Muppets,â âFraggle Rock,â and the characters on âSesame Street.â Can you talk about the inspiration behind creating this tribute show?
A: I have been a fan of The Muppets since childhood and far into adulthood. Growing up as an energetic child with a lot of imagination, an inability to stand still for very long, and a desire to make people laugh, I felt right at home when watching The Muppets. I have a huge passion for the creations of Jim Henson. They have transcended generations with their universal humor, relatable characters, and timeless messages. No matter what age, many of us have experienced or have been impacted by The Muppets in some way; whether it be learning our numbers and letters on âSesame Street,â to learning to follow our dreams watching âThe Muppet Movie,â to learning how to get along with those who are different than us on âFraggle Rock,â some of us have learned some of our greatest life lessons from these characters made of fabric and felt. It has made an impact on many of us, and I wanted to make an evening of theatre that could celebrate that.
What I love about Ocean Beach...
My family is very close and the neighborhood does play a huge part in that. Iâm currently living with my wife and daughter in the house I grew up in. My brother is my next-door neighbor, and my parents are just down the street from us. We try and do family dinners every other week or so at my parentsâ. My parents always lived in Ocean Beach/Point Loma. My dadâs grandparents settled here in the â40s and never left. So much of who I am was formed by living in San Diego. Itâs a part of me and Iâm incredibly grateful to be here.
Q: Iâve read that you grew up in Ocean Beach and that your parents were creatives who worked with a local youth theater company and also produced and directed local television programs. Can you talk about what it was like growing up in that kind of environment and how that shaped your own creativity and professional pursuits?
A: Growing up in that kind of environment gave me the permission to dream big. There was never really a time where I felt unsupported when it came to what I wanted to do when I grew up. My parents were always great at making me feel supported in any of my creative endeavors. I feel very privileged to have had that growing up. I think the big difference and the key to all of that is that they made sure I knew itâd be hard work. They made sure I knew there might not be immediate success or instant achievements. There definitely have been plenty of hard days, but I think what has kept me going more than anything is the joyâthe joy I feel when Iâm doing something I absolutely love. I want to feel that as often as I can. Thereâs nothing for me like being a part of the arts. Outside of my family, itâs the thing that brings me the most joy and thatâs how I know Iâm doing what Iâm supposed to do.
Q: In an interview with Shoutout LA , you talked about the power you found in musicals to inspire hope, redefine good and evil, and offer escape and healing. Are you comfortable sharing a personal healing experience a musical(s) provided for you?
A: A couple of weeks back, I got the chance to see some wonderfully talented colleagues and friends perform in âInto the Woodsâ at The Moonlight in Vista. That same week, I was adopting my daughter (which had been a five-year journey), and at the end of the musical, the company sings the lyrics, âCareful the things you say, children will listen.â This is a show I had heard throughout high school and college and was very aware of and knew quite well at this point. That song, specifically, brought on all new meanings and feelings for me during this new stage of my life. Without preparation, I found that tears just began flowing down my face and could not be stopped. When I first started dating my wife Megan and we knew we were going to be married and that I would become Lilyâs father, I always questioned how I could possibly parent and guide and make sense of the world to this child when, during that time, I felt so lost about my own understanding of the world. This particular show grapples with these exact topics and I found myself continuing to be reminded, throughout the performance, that people make mistakes, but that does not make you bad; that children will look to you for where to go, and that âno one is alone.â It was a healing, comforting, and reassuring experience for me.
Q: When you think about the kind of effect you would like âMovinâ Right Alongâ to have on its audience on May 25, what comes to mind for you?
A: In an interview once, Jim Henson said, âAt some point in my life, I decided, rightly or wrongly, that there are many situations in this life that I canât do much about. So, what I should do is concentrate on the situations that my energy can affect.â I find myself feeling very connected to this quote at a very pivotal time in the world we live in today. In these times we live in, there is so much we can do when it comes to staying aware to what is going on in the worldâgetting out there and voting, speaking out about whatâs right, being there for our fellow humans. There is also a whole heck of a lot that I cannot control, as much as I want to. So, I begin to ask myself, âWhat am I capable of? Just me.â I am capable of spreading love. I am capable of sharing joy with people. I am capable of making people laugh, even if it is just for a moment, even if itâs the first laugh theyâve had in a long time. I am capable of providing that to people who may desperately need that right now. Though it may seem small in comparison to other things, Iâve found that even the smallest acts of positive human interaction or community joy have made all the difference in my life. So, I hope during our performance, I can provide a safe space for people to laugh, to smile, and to sing along, just like Jim did for so many generations of people.
Q: What is the best advice youâve ever received?
A: I had a professor in college tell us that, âLuck is preparation meets opportunity.â That always stuck with me.
Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to find out about you?
A: I can quote all of âToy Storyâ and âThe Emperorâs New Grooveâ by heart (and I did record myself doing both of those movies in their entirety on my TikTok).
Q: Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend.
A: OK, do yourself a favor, save up the extra cash and rent a pontoon for the day and go out on Mission Bay, blasting that yacht-rock playlist youâve been saving for a special occasion. There are so many favorite spots though, itâs really tough. Any of the Consortium Holdings restaurants or bars (Polite Provisions, Raised by Wolves, etc.), youâll have a great time. Rockyâs in Pacific Beach is also a fave, as well as Grass Skirt. I mean, youâve got do Hodads in O.B., too, right? A Padres game and the zoo, of course. Oh, and do yourself another favor and make sure to see Cassie B and her band at Moonshine Beach to kick off your weekend right. Go forth and enjoy!
