American electronica synthpop band, The Glitch Mob is based in Los Angeles, California currently consisting of Edward Ma (aka edit), Justin Boreta (aka Boreta) and Josh Mayer (aka Ooah).

Originally formed in 2006 by edit, Boreta, Ooah, and Kraddy (born Mathew Kratz) and made a name for themselves under the name The Glitch Mob in the growing Los Angeles underground electronic music scene. Continuing to tour up and down the west coast, the band gained a large following, especially in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and releasing a series a singles and mix tapes. As they traveled they showcased their talent using laptops and MIDI controllers for their bass-driven electronica. Unfortunately in 2009, Kraddy left the group due to creative differences, but the group carried on as a trio and by 2010 they released their first full length album “Drink The Sea.”

“Drink The Sea” reached number 57 on the CMJ college radio Top 200 chart. Continuing to tour around the United States in 2014, The Glitch Mob developed a new musical element called The Blade, and had staging that included set pieces designed by movie set designers. The setting included extravagant paint jobs, and it holds both lighting and instruments. The Glitch Mob also released a second album entitled “Love Death Immortality.” The record featured various guest vocals from Metal Mother, Nico Vega’s AjaVolkman, and Sister Crayon’s Terra Lopez.

Live reviews

I remember going through Youtube videos one day back in 2010 and I came across a parkour video that featured The Glitch Mob. I had never heard of them before, nor had I heard music like theirs before. I was so focused on the music that I barely watched the video. I immediately looked them up and discovered that they were a new group, and only had one album out: Drink The Sea. So I listened to it a couple hundred times on repeat and showed all my friends, because it's just not right to hold back amazing music. Their popularity began to grow and some of their music was even featured in movie trailers, like Captain America and G.I. Joe, which I thought was awesome; I was so happy for them.

After a couple years of listening to them, I wondered when they were going to release a new album, so I did some research to see if I could find anything. During my search, I found out more about the group that made me appreciate them even more. They have their own, independent label, which means that they essentially do all the work including merchandise and making videos. I thought this was awesome because it just shows how much they truly care about their music and how much time they devote to it. I follow them on social media sites and they're really down to earth, funny guys; they're a group I'd want to hang out with even if they didn't produce music. They really appreciate their fans and try to interact with them as much as possible. Anyways, I should write about my concert experience now. I never had the chance to see them until this year at Ultra Miami. Not going to lie, they were the main reason I went. They had just come out with their new album Love Death Immortality, so I really didn't know what they were going to play in their set, but regardless, I was excited. I made sure I was very front row, of course. I'm a pretty quiet person, but when The Glitch Mob came out, I screamed as loud as I ever have. They opened up with one of their new songs, Skytoucher, and even if you hadn't heard it before, it would still get you going. They mixed in some of their old classics too like Drive It Like You Stole It, which I thought was really cool because I had been listening to them for years, since The Glitch Mob's start. The atmosphere was simply ecstatic, I felt like everyone was enjoying it as much as I was. I looked over and there were not one but two guys in wheelchairs that were lifted up by the people around them. I thought that was pretty cool. There was no dull moment in their set, they just kept everybody pumped up the whole time. I was exhausted after it was over, and also disappointed that it couldn't have just gone on forever.

Overall, I think The Glitch Mob is one of the best up and coming electronic groups of today. Their music is different than most other current electronic stuff, but in a very good way. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you see them in concert, or at least listen to their music.

Justin, Josh, and Ed are amazing guys and I hope they keep doing what they're doing.

I saw The Glitch Mob at The Mid, which is a club venue. It was a DJ set rather than a live performance, but their energy and crowd interaction was great nonetheless. They played a fair amount of music from both Drink the Sea and Love Death Immortality as well as a couple of remixes, including their stellar remix of The White Stripe's "Seven Nation Army", which I was dying to hear.

The sound quality was great, in part because of the club size and the fact that it wasn't live. The three of them work so well with each other and it's easy to see how the energy bounces between them. The set itself was very fluent, and even after their set time was over they stayed up on stage and played a few songs off of iTunes and just had a good time up there instead of walking off right, which I appreciated. Even though it was "just press play" moment, it was nice to still have them up there as long as possible. This also gave them more time to really talk to the crowd and keep them hyped up. I watched most of the show from up close, and later moved up to the balcony. Even up there I definitely felt the love coming from the Mob. At first, I wasn't sure if watching a DJ set would be worth it, but they definitely brought all of the energy as a live show with The Blade would have had.

Californian three piece electro outfit The Glitch Mob have been a band for less than ten years yet they have developed a slick live show at a rapid pace. The band is known to have one of the most dynamic, rousing shows on the circuit and this is due to the combination of anthemic electro and magnetic stage personas.

The crowds are known for being more than up for a party, there is a sort of agreement as a collective that every member will be thoroughly and whole heartedly involved with the gig. There shall be no standing and spectating this evening during the likes of 'Can't Kill Us' as the whole audience dance and jump as one.

Edward Ma jumps himself with even more energy to hype the crowd further before they play a cover of the White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army' as they are bathed in strobe lights. They have saved the A-Game for a finale of 'We Can Make the World Stop' as the whole audience garner their final energy to jump beneath the stage as the trio applaud their lively fan base.

What can I say they never fail disappoint I've seen them before when they toured London previously but this time I was blown away with tailored remixes of some of their tracks. It was great journey through past and present showing their own progression in terms of sound and identity. They tore the house down and so they should. Can't wait for them to come again

I'm so glad we arrived early and could get near the stage. Elohim was amazing during her opener and reallly brought the energy levels up. After that, The Glitch Mob took over and did their magnificent percussional experience. I saw them at Red Rocks earlier this year, and the more intimate setting of the Ogden was incredible. What a night.

Frogchop’s profile image

The list of bands playing at the concert was only made public halfway the night, which sucked because we discovered that The Glitch Mob would only be playing at 3AM (we entered the venue at 11PM). This was really really uncomfortable. Other than that, The Glitch Mob's performance was top notch!

sgotti’s profile image

The Glitch Mob played every song I wanted to hear, and there is nothing like hearing one of your favorite bands playing their best songs live. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Very high energy, lots of fun. I had a great time. One of the best shows I have ever attended.

Great show. District Atlanta is a cool intimate venue great for raving. Lights in the cieling are a great addition and add a awesome layer. Would suggest for anyone who likes electronic music, espeically if a favorite artist is playing there.

wpittman210’s profile image

The lightshow was a spectacle, their setup really goes well with their sound, and their music is incredibly well mixed for a venue like the Fillmore. This was a fantastic show, even with the fire alarm going off.

easchendorf8882’s profile image

Not great. It was only a DJ set plus it started at 4.30am. Furthermore, there was a mind numbing DJ duo as support playing extremely repetitive techno. Unfortunately, this was not the shoe I expected to see.

The Glitch Mob transcends time. These pioneers have been churning out some of the most forward thinking, and interesting music, in the game since the early 2000s, with no end in sight.

Their tours have legendary hardware, incredible sound and lights, and some of the most impressive and inventive mixing styles and production we’ve ever seen (Their Blade tours have been regarded as some of the most unique in the game).

They’re back with a brand new tour, with one of the craziest lineups we’ve ever seen! Titled The Alchemy Tour, the trio from Los Angeles are taking over The Gorge, Saturday, October 5th, with a mega supporting cast: Slander and NGHTMRE’s Gud Vibrations act, as well as PNW favorite Seven Lions to round out this incredible night of music.

Whom are you looking forward to seeing on the Alchemy Tour? Let us know in our comments section on Facebook , and Twitter !

The Glitch Mob Announces 2018 World Tour

The electronic group The Glitch Mob , made up of edIT (Edward Ma), Boreta (Justin Boreta), and Ooah (Josh Mayer), have been at the forefront of the scene since their start in the mid-2000s. Back in 2014, the group started touring with a musical element called “The Blade,” a customized, painted set piece built by movie set designers for housing both lights and instruments. Well it’s now 2018, and the Glitch Mob has just announced another world tour featuring “The Blade 2.0, “ a custom stage from the work of pioneering set designer, Martin Phillips, otherwise known as the man behind Daft Punk’s legendary Pyramid on their iconic 2006/2007 Alive tour. Phillips has also worked with big-name artists like Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, and more.

The aim of the custom set design is to break down the wall between The Glitch Mob as performers and the crowd. Everything is flipped from a traditional setup – the crowd can see what the group is playing in real time. “The Blade 2.0” is booth a custom-made instrument and a stage, creating an immersive experience for the audience. Not only will this massive, 36-date 2018 tour incorporate such an original and unique stage experience, but it will be the first tour The Glitch Mob has done since 2014/2015, after which the group took a short hiatus. For fans of The Glitch Mob, this is serious news and it sounds like they are back and fully prepared to put on an epic show.
