ABOUT DEBBIE GIBSON

For more than 30 years, Debbie Gibson has proven she’s an entertainer of immeasurable talent. From singer, songwriter, and musician to actress and producer, she embodies what it truly means to be an entertainer. A music prodigy, Gibson burst on the Billboard Pop Charts at the tender age of 16 with the self-penned “Only In My Dreams.” The “Original Pop Princess” quickly became the youngest artist ever to write, produce, and perform a No. 1 hit song, “Foolish Beat,” on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the Guinness Book of World Records. To date, she is still the youngest female to hold that record. Gibson has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide and starred in 17 musicals in 17 years, from Broadway’s “Les Miserables” to the West End’s “Grease.”

In 2016, Gibson created, executive produced, and starred in Hallmark Channel’s “Summer of Dreams,” which was the highest-rated and most-watched movie premiere in the network’s “Summer Nights” franchise with 2.5 million total viewers, becoming the No. 1 rated program and telecast on August 27. She reunited with Robert Gant to walk down the aisle in the sequel, “Wedding of Dreams,” that premiered September 8, 2018 on Hallmark Channel. In 2019, Gibson joined NKOTB on The Mixtape Arena Tour. Later that year, she also served as a celebrity judge on Nickelodeon’s “America’s Most Musical Family.”

In 2020, her single “Girls Night Out” soared to No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard and U.K. MusicWeek charts. 2021 was a busy year for Gibson. Her guest starring role in the musical episode of “Lucifer” debuted on Netflix. She took Vegas by storm with her pop soulmate in the “Debbie Gibson & Joey McIntyre: Live from Las Vegas” mini residency. Gibson released a new duet of “Lost in Your Eyes,” featuring Joey McIntyre, as well as the DJ Tracy Young co-penned “One Step Closer,” with an exclusive remix by DJ John Michael debuting on the Debbie Gibson Peloton Ride. Her first pop album of original material in 20 years, “The Body Remembers,” came out on her own label Stargirl Records to rave reviews. The new album promptly shot up to No. 2 on the Apple Pop Sales Charts and achieved one million streams in its first month.

In 2022, Stargirl Records released “One Step Closer Remixes” reaching No. 3 on the Swiss dance charts and landed at No. 8 on the Commercial Pop MusicWeek chart in the UK. Gibson appeared on numerous national television shows, including CBS “Secret Celebrity Renovation,” and she showed off her musical chops while sitting in with The Roots on “The Tonight Show” starring Jimmy Fallon. She embarked on a U.S. solo tour of “The Body Remembers” and celebrated the 35th anniversary of her debut album “Out of the Blue” with three sold out shows in NYC followed by the release of her first-ever holiday album “Winterlicious” and tour of the same name.

Gibson’s 2023 found her frequently on national TV whether it was competing against Donny Osmond on Criss Angel’s “Magic With The Stars,” as the “Night Owl” on Fox’s hit show “The Masked Singer,” or raising money for charity, nearly 200k combined, on “Celebrity Name That Tune” and “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.” She executive produced the highly acclaimed LGBTQ TV movie for Hallmark “Notes of Autumn.” The Body Remembers Encore Tour, rolled across the US while she dropped her new single and music video for “Love Don’t Care,” appeared on HSN’s Christmas in July special, and released “Love Don’t Care – The Remixes.” Gibson also announced a book deal with Gallery for her upcoming memoir.

Gibson shows no signs of slowing down. 2024 kicked off with an appearance on Fox’s “We Are Family.” She was honored with the Trailblazer Award from The Women’s International Music Network at the 12th Annual She Rocks Awards. She is celebrating the 35th Anniversary of her No. 1 hit “Lost In Your Eyes” and No. 1 album “Electric Youth” with a brand new “Electric Youth” Newstalgia Remix by Tracy Young and embarks on special anniversary shows.

Leonid & Friends

Passion. Persistence. Perfection. By Scott Schwebke

With multiple sold-out U.S. tours under its belt and hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, Leonid & Friends continues to astound its global audience with its unique ability in capturing the spirit, musicality, and fire of American supergroup Chicago. And what is even more stunning is that Leonid & Friends, comprised of 11 of the finest musicians in Russia, haven't seen Chicago perform live until recently, yet replicates the band’s complex arrangements amazingly note for note. Chicago has never been in Russia, and none of us have attended their concerts until just recently in the United States," said Leonid Vorobyev, a multi-instrumentalist who is the band’s leader. "We have only recordings and videos (to help us learn Chicago songs)."

Ironically, Vorobyev wasn’t always a fan of horn bands, and as a teenager gravitated to the hard-driving guitar-based sounds of the Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple, and Grand Funk Railroad. "In the early 1970s in the USSR, electric guitars, amplifiers, and drums were rare to find so at school we were playing self-made instruments," Vorobyev explained. "We were allowed to rehearse in the same room with a horns band. Those musicians almost always were drunk and quite often tried to play with us our rock songs. It was a nightmare, and I hated them all!" But that all changed when Vorobyev heard Chicago. He became an instant fan. "I loved so much the brilliant mixture of rock guitars, drums, and jazz horns with bright vocal harmonies," he said. In 2014, Vorobyev decided to indulge his love for the band by gathering a few fellow musicians in a studio to record a video of them playing his favorite Chicago tune, Brand New Love Affair. No charts or scores of the song existed so Vorobyev transcribed the tune by ear. The result was a YouTube video that quickly went viral. Since then Leonid & Friends has recorded videos of other Chicago hits including Make Me Smile , 25 or 6 to 4 , and Saturday In The Park . All total the videos have received more than 50 million views. Also, Leonid & Friends has recorded two albums showcasing its tribute to Chicago. The process of getting each tune just right is a painstaking labor of love. In addition to scoring and arranging, Vorobyev oversees mixing and mastering of each song. However, he credits his highly skilled bandmates for making each tune sing. "All of my musician friends are highly professional," he said. However, Leonid & Friends hasn’t been satisfied with merely connecting with fans through videos and recordings. In early 2019, the band embarked on its first tour outside of Russia that had fans dancing in the aisles at sold-out shows in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Florida. Two other scorching coast-to-coast U.S. tours followed that same year. “The fans were so eager to see us that some traveled from as far as Hawaii and the Philippines not mentioning flying across the U.S .and driving for hours to attend our shows,” Vorobyev said. “I was expecting a warm greeting but I didn't expect such a warm reception and with so much love and gratitude for us.” In Los Angeles, the band met its musical heroes, founding members of Chicago, keyboardist Robert Lamm, and drummer Danny Seraphine as well as Michelle Kath Sinclair, daughter of late, great Chicago guitarist Terry Kath. “We were so thrilled that Robert, Danny, and Michelle took the time to visit with us,” Vorobyev said. “It was an experience that we will cherish and remember forever.” When Leonid & Friends isn’t touring, band members are in the studio in Moscow immersing themselves in Chicago’s storied catalog of hits and deep tracks while preparing for the next tour. In September of 2018, the band recorded its first song from legendary supergroup Earth, Wind, & Fire and also paid tribute to the band Blood, Sweat & Tears as well. Borrowing a line from one of Chicago's biggest hits, "it's only the beginning" of great things from Leonid & Friends.

Scott Schwebke has been a journalist for more than 30 years and a longtime fan of Chicago dating back to its incarnation as CTA. His work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Denver Post, Orange County Register and various publications across the U.S.

At the end of 2014, Leonid decided to give himself a gift to celebrate his retirement by recording a cover version of Chicago’s song Brand New Love Affair. Many people took notice of his talents and in 2012, he began composing music for the film and television industries. Along the way, Sergey made many friends in the music industry and considered a number of them very close. In 2014, he was approached by one of those friends and asked to participate in recording a cover of a song from the American band Chicago for Leonid Vorobyev. The audio recording and subsequent video of the song Brand New Love Affair were not supposed to be anything more than a birthday gift to his friend but the rest of the world didn’t see it that way. After posting it on YouTube for their friends to view the word began to spread, and what was supposed to be a simple act of kindness for his friend, turned into the band Leonid & Friends recording many more songs which have been viewed in over 150 countries at last count. SONIC YOUTH A Consumer Guide to their live albums by Joe Yanosik (June 2020) Two middle class art students and a punk rock fan with a shared attraction to the bohemian promise of lower Manhattan (as well as the Velvet Underground and other kool things), Sonic Youth came together in 1981 and soon evolved from an experimental avant-punk outfit into one of the world's greatest rock bands, mainly by expanding the vocabulary of the electric guitar. Famous for modifying cheap guitars with alternate tunings specific to a single song, they are the exalted godfathers of indie rock - cool NYC hipsters who invented "alternative" a decade before it broke on commercial radio thanks to their DGC label mates Nirvana who were only the most famous of the many bands they paved the way for. Though they never achieved the commercial success of the Teen Spirit crew, the albums that Sonic Youth released during their 30-year career comprise one of the most extraordinary discographies in rock. Once drummer Steve Shelley joined in 1985, the band (Thurston Moore - guitar/vocals, Kim Gordon - bass/guitar/vocals, Lee Ranaldo - guitar/vocals) produced an album every two years until ceasing operations in 2011 when Kim and Thurston's marriage dissolved. Aside from the avant-garde experiment Goodbye 20th Century , not a single one was less than excellent ( NYC Ghosts & Flowers haters are hereby directed to give that one another try). In addition to their incredible studio album legacy, Sonic Youth will go down in history as one of the most amazing live bands of all time and their concert recordings merit serious attention. Although they only released a handful of official live albums while still active, over a dozen more complete concerts have recently been made available via their Bandcamp page . One sad truth about live music is that not every performance is worthy of a live album. It's rare that a single show is compelling from beginning to end, not to mention free of wrong notes or false starts, especially in rock music. Live jazz albums tend to be more reliable - think of masterpieces like Sonny Rollins' G-Man or Monk's Misterioso . Not to say it doesn't happen with rock. Winners like Nirvana's Live at Reading and Ramones' It's Alive do exist but they're the rare exception. Even classic live albums like Before the Flood and Live/Dead were assembled from two or three nights of shows. It's not surprising then that the following concert recordings are far from perfect - but that doesn't mean select performances can't be highlighted or that certain shows don't stand out. How many versions of "The Sprawl" do you need? Start deciding here. NOTE: This guide includes all official Sonic Youth live albums to date and was initiated when the band added a dozen complete concerts in digital download format to their Bandcamp page late last March, all of which had previously been available exclusively on nugs.net. It skips such renowned bootlegs as Walls Have Ears (a murky 2-LP record of their acclaimed 1985 UK tour worth seeking out for the cover art alone) and the Brighton Beach Party tape (see the video on YouTube ) as well as the limited-edition fan-club-only picture-disc Live in Bremen which documents their Europe '91 tour with Nirvana as featured in the excellent rock doc 1991: The Year Punk Broke . Live in Venlo 1983 , Live at the Continental Club 1986 and Blastic Scene (Live in Lisbon 1993) were all previously available only via the Sonic Youth fan club (as CD's) but are now band-sanctioned "official bootlegs" that are currently available digitally via the band's Bandcamp page. Live in Moscow 1989 is a newly released band-sanctioned bootleg which features decent performances but inferior sound quality. The Sonic-Death cassette of live juvenilia is long out-of-print but you won't miss anything if you die before hearing that one. Albums are listed in chronological order of date of recording, as opposed to date of release. Sonic-Death: Sonic-Youth Live (Early Sonic 81-82) (Ecstatic Peace! cassette 1984) 68 mins. DUD (Over)Kill Yr Idols (Forced Exposure 7" vinyl single 1985) 7 mins. Once a giveaway to Forced Exposure subscribers, now a rare collectable, this 45 (containing two songs from a Berlin show on 10/30/83) is primo live SY. The A-side "Making the Nature Scene" is already the concert highlight it would remain for their entire career with Kim Gordon chant-shouting the lyrics over the catchy bass riff and tribal drum beat until those eerily quiet guitars ignite and blast off midway through. The B-side "Kill Yr Idols" (here charmingly re-titled "I Killed Christgau With My Big Fuckin' Dick" in reference to the Dean of American Rock Critics whose negative reviews of the band's early albums had riled the ire of this media-savvy band) is even better. Scarier and wilder (and longer) than the version on the Kill Yr Idols EP, it's an awesome performance featuring guitar tones stretched into unnatural shapes, intense feedback, bass strings being slammed into submission and a brutal rhythm attack that revs up faster and faster into a tension-building rave-up with a truly maniacal vocal by Thurston Moore screaming "Kill yr idols/Sonic death/It's the end of the world/Your confusion is sex" over it all. If Sonic Youth had broken up after making this single, they would still be remembered today - it's as much an indie noise-rock classic as Black Flag's "Louie Louie" or Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick" or Flipper's "Sex Bomb." Only 1,246 copies made (featuring picture sleeve art by Raymond Pettibone) so nowadays it's easier to find a digital facsimile online. Just make sure to download the Forced Exposure versions - and turn it up. A- Live in Venlo 1983 (Sonic Death 1995) 46 mins. DUD Smart Bar: Chicago 1985 (Goofin' 2012) 66 mins. CHOICE CUT : "Brother James" Live at the Continental Club 1986 (Sonic Death 1992) 51 mins. CHOICE CUTS: "Kill Yr Idols", "Death to Our Friends" Trenton, NJ - City Gardens - May 22, 1987 (nugs.net 2019) 49 mins. On the superior Hold That Tiger recorded 5 months later, you can appreciate their alternate tunings - here, on a dozen Sister songs, they're often just out of tune. ("Stereo Sanctity," "Hot Wire My Heart") * NOTE: This album is titled Live at City Gardens 1987 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Hold That Tiger (Live at Cabaret Metro 1987 ) (Goofin' 1998) 59 mins. This fiery Sister -era show, self-released by the band in '91 and then re-mastered in '97 for improved sound, remains incontrovertible proof of how fast and punk they once were (even without the Ramones encore), and how lucky we are they kept evolving. ("Expressway to Yr Skull," "Pipeline/Kill Time," "Tom Violence") *** NOTE: This album was pitch- and tempo-corrected when it was rereleased on the Sonic Youth bandcamp page in May 2020. Chicago, IL - Cabaret Metro - November 5, 1988 (nugs.net 2018) 71 mins. Not-bad-sounding audience tape from start of the tour promoting the just-released Daydream Nation , but apart from an incandescent "Candle," other live renditions of these songs shine brighter. ("Candle," "Eric's Trip") * NOTE: The cover art incorrectly states the date of the show as November 11, 1988. This album is titled Live at Cabaret Metro 1988 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. New York, NY - CBGB - December 13, 1988 (nugs.net 2018) 55 mins. With the same set list as the 11/5/88 Chicago show right down to the Stooges encore, you could justifiably attribute this show's superiority to a month on the road and better sound - or just figure Our Heroes were extra proud to show off their new songs at their old haunt. ("The Sprawl," "Eliminator Jr.," "The Wonder") *** NOTE: This album is titled Live at CBGB's 1988 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Live Daydream (Geffen 2007) Stashed away on Disc Two of the 2007 Deluxe Edition reissue of Daydream Nation resides one of Sonic Youth's best live albums. Celebrating and preserving for posterity their historic and influential tour which ran from fall 1988 to summer 1989, it was constructed by cherry-picking strong live renditions of every Daydream track recorded at six different concerts including the 1988 Cabaret Metro and CBGB's gigs reviewed above but with half taken from two European shows from March 1989 when the album had already begun to achieve critical acclaim. The songs are in different order than on the studio album yet in both cases blend together in one big wave of sound - only here, random feedback and audience noise add to the ambience and the excitement. Apart from "The Sprawl" with its dramatic intro and the explosive "Silver Rocket" with its wild guitar/drum interlude, these versions are a minute or two faster than their studio counterparts - aggressive, heated, intense - yet always the anthemic melodies make themselves heard (and felt). Steve Shelley's drumming is fierce throughout as he propels the squall forward. From Kim Gordon's best-in-show vocals on "Cross the Breeze" to Thurston Moore's fretwork on "Candle" (from Cabaret Metro) to the band's noisy groove on "The Wonder" and "Hyperstation" (both from CBGB's) to "Eliminator Jr." with its superfuzz ZZ Top riff to "Total Trash" with its two-minute avant-punk prelude and off-the-rails finale, this is a powerful and impressive document of the band at an early peak. A Live in Moscow (Feelee 2019) 66 mins. CHOICE CUT: "Silver Rocket". NOTE: This album is titled Live in Moscow 1989 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Irvine, CA - Crawford Hall - November 3, 1990 (nugs.net 2019) 69 mins. Well-recorded show from the Goo tour, remixed in 2005 for projected live album release but then shelved until 2019, it benefits from its multi-track source tapes and shiny remix but the performances are hit or miss as the band adapts their art-punk past to their alt-rock future. ("Dirty Boots", "Kill Yr Idols") ** NOTE: Five tracks from this show (in the original mix) were released in 1991 on the "Dirty Boots" maxi-single. San Francisco, CA - The Warfield - March 5, 1993 (nugs.net 2019) 86 mins. CHOICE CUTS: "Catholic Block," "Sugar Kane," "Theresa's Sound World" NOTE: This album is titled Live at the Warfield 1993 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Blastic Scene (Live in Lisbon 1993) (Moneyland 1995) 71 mins. Supersonic classics plus previews from the not-yet-recorded Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star , as played to a few hundred lucky fans in a Lisbon bull ring - and if some of the new songs are still works-in-progress, others are already works of art. ("Self-Obsessed & Sexxee, "Cotton Crown," "In the Mind of the Bourgeois Reader") *** Los Angeles, CA - Veterans Wadsworth Theatre - May 28, 1998 (nugs.net 2019) 104 mins. Created organically in their own brand-new studio, 1998's A Thousand Leaves was a mid-career high point, as much a masterpiece as Daydream Nation but created by mature elder statesmen and reflecting their more settled stations in life. The album's songs seemed relaxed and comfortable, often slow and gentle, allowing the listener to luxuriate in their beautiful and adventurous sounds. In the '90's, the band had gotten serious about modifying their guitars with alternate tunings and creating songs around specific instruments, and A Thousand Leaves is an impeccable showcase for the music they conjured out of that gear. Here, on a mid-tour concert proudly promoting the album, the songs had become tighter and more defined. Beautifully recorded with sharp stereo separation, the near-flawless performances combine with the tougher arrangements in what amounts to an alternate version of the album. The instrumental title track of 1997's Anagrama EP is a perfect intro to the nine A Thousand Leaves songs that follow where the focus is always on the atmospheric texture of each piece, many of which rival the studio versions. "Female Mechanic Now on Duty," with Kim strumming the hook and growling her pro-feminist lyrics while Lee and Thurston's guitars combust around her, is more menacing. The sculpted feedback on "Karen Koltrane" is wilder. Lee's note-perfect "Hoarfrost," taken at a slightly slower pace, is prettier. "Wildflower Soul"'s blanket of noise more breathtaking, the 10-minute Ginsberg jam more trippy. The following summer, their collection of customized guitars, amps and pedals would vanish when someone stole their tour bus containing the gear out of a motel parking lot. But here, on this magical night, they've got a fuzzbox and they're gonna use it. A NOTE: Omit the feedback-heavy encore and the first 10 songs fit snugly onto a single (and awesome) CD-R. This album is titled Live in Los Angeles 1998 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Live at All Tomorrows Parties 2000 (sonicyouth.bandcamp.com 2020) CHOICE CUT: "Free City Rhymes" Paris, France - Olympia - June 7, 2001 (nugs.net 2019) CHOICE CUT: "NYC Ghosts and Flowers" NOTE: This album is titled Live at L'Olympia 2001 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Chicago, IL - Cabaret Metro - August 17, 2002 (nugs.net 2018) 87 mins. Following the 1999 theft of their customized gear, the band's sound changed as they resorted to using older guitars in their possession not used since the '80's. Simultaneous with this sonic rebirth was the band's renewed interest in avant-garde music, and the results were 1999's Goodbye 20th Century and 2000's better NYC Ghosts and Flowers , both documented on the Paris 2001 show, where the Steve Reich and John Cage noise experiments, interspersed with Yoko Ono scream pieces, feel more like a museum show than they intended, whereas the impressionistic "NYC Ghosts and Flowers" encore sounds alive for its 11 minutes. With new member Jim O'Rourke on board, 2002's song-strong Murray Street was hailed a comeback as was the tour that followed. This concert, while not as amazing as the previous week's Central Park NYC show per my recollection, is well-paced, captivating and features monster performances of all seven Murray Street songs as well as older songs from their career, which they'd begun adding to their shows. The sharp, trebly mix allows you to appreciate the guitar playing which sounds neat and clean while O'Rourke takes care of the requisite dissonance with his electronics. Highlights include "Rain on Tin" with its delicate guitar interplay between Thurston and Lee that grows torrential, a sharp, LED-quality "Candle" and, above all, the epic soundscapes of "Sympathy for the Strawberry" and "Karenology." Kim is terrific throughout, but especially on a pretty "Shadow of a Doubt" and a "Drunken Butterfly" that's not pretty at all. A- NOTE: This album is titled Live at Cabaret Metro Chicago, IL 2002 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Sonic Youth su Tim Barnes: Koncertas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui (SYR 2005) 66 mins. DUD Asheville, NC - Orange Peel - August 20, 2004 (nugs.net 2019) 114 mins. Sonic Nurse live, plus one gem each from their '86-'95 album run, with tuneful riffs and extended jams outnumbering the strange noises, here supplied by Jim O'Rourke's keyboards as often as those spiffy guitars. ("Kool Thing", "Expressway to Yr Skull," "New Hampshire") *** NOTE: This album is titled Live at the Orange Peel 2004 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Sonic Youth med Mats Gustafsson og Merzbow: Andre Sider af Sonic Youth (SYR 2008) 58 mins. DUD ABC Glasgow August 2007 Daydream Nation (nugs.net 2018) 111 mins. Daydream Nation was added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2005, which led to the 2007 Deluxe Edition reissue and a 20th anniversary tour where the band played the album in its entirety (and in album order). On this live album, constructed from two consecutive nights, the band sounds fine and yet many of the performances are somewhat subdued, with Thurston's vocals in particular seeming to substitute satire for passion. As with Patti Smith's live reinterpretation of her classic Horses on its 30th anniversary, the Youth sound looser and more confident with the elapsed years, maybe wiser too - but unlike Patti's 2005 concert, the Daydream songs here seem to lack that show's urgency and verve - although the outer space-y electronics on "Silver Rocket" are a nice touch. By contrast, the encore's batch of Rather Ripped songs sound fresh and kick things up a notch - but then it's over. For live Daydream , stick with Live Daydream . B+ NOTE: This album is titled Daydream Nation Live in Glasgow, Scotland 2007 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Battery Park NYC , July 4th 2008 (Matador 2009) 43 mins. Sonic Youth's best live album, and I swear I'm not just saying that because I was at this free concert on that glorious summer afternoon in lower Manhattan. Selecting 10 of the best performances from an exquisitely-recorded 16-song show and sequencing them for maximum effect, it's a strong argument for the theory that SY's last decade was their live peak. Since 2000, the band had been slowly rearming themselves with new customized instruments to replace the stolen gear and by now they'd rebuilt their arsenal, and since Jim O'Rourke's departure in 2005, they'd been adding more old songs to their shows. The eclectic set list here spans songs from their earliest records right up to the then-current Rather Ripped as well as staples from Daydream Nation which the band had been playing nightly for the past year during the 20-year anniversary tour. No other Sonic Youth album better presents maestros Moore and Ranaldo unveiling the sonic possibilities of the electric guitar. On display, in glorious stereo, is the full panoply of their sounds and effects - the metallic clangs and feedback squelches of "She Is Not Alone," the power chords that envelope "World Looks Red," the whirrs and buzzes that swirl around "Hey Joni," the tandem strumming on "Jams Run Free," the awesome wall of noise that is "Hyperstation," the extended distortion that opens a searing "100%." Steve Shelley proves with every beat why the greatest bands need great drummers, and Kim Gordon has rarely sounded better than on the four numbers she sings, especially the no-wave finale "Making the Nature Scene," where new bassist Mark Ibold lays down the punk-funk rhythm and Lee plays his guitar with a drumstick. If you could see Kim dancing, it would be perfect. A+ NOTE: This album was previously only available on vinyl to fans who pre-ordered the 2009 album The Eternal , or as the bonus disc to a Japan-only 2-CD edition called The Eternal - Sonik Tooth , a holy grail that has eluded this fan for years. It was rereleased as a vinyl album and digital download in 2019. Berlin, Germany - Columbiahalle - October 21, 2009 (nugs.net 2018) 100 mins. Stretching out on the sharp, hooky songs from The Eternal , but the tunes would shine brighter if the mix favored the guitars and vocals as much as it does the bass and drums. ("Silver Rocket," "Sacred Trickster") * NOTE: This album is titled Live in Berlin 2009 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page. Brooklyn, NY - Williamsburg Waterfront - August 11, 2011 (nugs.net 2018) 93 mins. Last (gulp) US show ever (sniffle) features a solid set of deep cuts from across the sonic elders' entire oeuvre, which is fun - yet leans a little too much on the droning goth-punk dirges of Bad Moon Rising , which isn't. ("Kotton Krown," "Drunken Butterfly," "Starfield Road") ** NOTE: This album is titled Live in Brooklyn 2011 on the Sonic Youth Bandcamp page with different cover art. Per the band, hundreds of hours of live material remain in their archives so hopefully we can look forward to more concerts being released in the months and years to come. Foremost among these should be recordings from their excellent 1995 Washing Machine and 2006 Rather Ripped tours, which have yet to be represented. In 2011, Sonic Youth went on an indefinite hiatus from which they have yet to return. But NYC is forever kitty - and angels are waiting for them. Thanks to the following individuals who contributed to this project in one way or another: Michael Azerrad, David Browne, Robert Christgau, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley. Electric Wizard are a doom metal band hailing from Bournemouth, UK who since their formation in 1993 have helped shaped the genre producing iconic releases such as “Come My Fanatics” and “Dopethrone”.

Rising from the ashes of former band Lord of Putrefaction- Justin Osborn (lead guitar, vocal), Tim Bagshaw (bass) and Mark Greening (drums) came together in 1993. Taking inspiration from two Black Sabbath tracks “Electric Funeral” and “The Wizard” and compounding the titles, the trio had found the their new name and thus Electric Wizard was born. Their debut track “Demon Lung” was released later that year as a split single alongside Our Haunted Kingdom (who would later be known as Orange Goblin).

In 1995 the trio signed London based independent label Rise Above Records where they released their debut self-titled album the following year. Falling comfortably into the doom metal genre, the band were able to make quite an impression with critics as they praised the fine quality of stoner metal showing incredible promise.

By the time the band had released their follow up album “Come My Fanatics” in 1997, their sound had greatly evolved incorporating more elements of grunge which assisted in creating Electric Wizard’s distinctive sound. The album not only showcased their new and improved sound but also acted as a defining moment in the band’s career as the album featured at number 37 in Terrorizer magazine’s top 50 definitive doom albums list.

After the release of the album, the band would find them plagued by a series of unfortunate events with everything ranging from: broken limbs, burst eardrums to various legal issues and battles. Despite these seemingly major setbacks, the band appeared unaffected as they released the “Supercoven” EP in 1998 followed the musical masterpiece “Dopethrone” in 2000. As a pivotal album in the doom metal genre with more intricate and aggressive tones and rhythms, Electric Wizard had carved their name in stone resulting in Terrorizer magazine naming it as Album of the Century.

In 2002, Electric Wizard released their fourth album “Let Us Prey” and on their North American tour to support its release, tension grew between band members which led them to announce their forthcoming split. However despite releasing the statement regarding the split, the band continued and parted ways with Greening and Bagshaw in 2003 who went on to form the band Ramesses. In their place, Electric Wizard welcomed Justin Greaves, Rob Al-Issa and Liz Buckingham to the line-up.

The band continued to tour the album in Australia and England releasing the album “We Live” in 2004. Electric Wizard’s sixth studio album “Witchcult Today” released in 2007 saw the band achieve similar success to the critically acclaimed “Dopethrone”. Using only vintage 70’s recording equipment the album featured the 11 minute instrumental "Black Magic Rituals & Perversions” taking audiences on a soundscape journey of varying elements of metal as the band really showcased their innate ability to create monumental and earth-shattering rhythms.

With a few more replacements along the way, the band line-up in 2014 included original member Jus Obsorn with Liz Buckingham, Clayton Burgess and Simon Poole as they released their eighth album “Time To Die” produced by Osborn.

In their lengthy career, the band have played festivals such as Roadburn, Roskilde, Reverence, Hellfest and Damnation providing their definitive infusion of grunge and doom metal and reaffirming their stature as an instrumental band in the genre’s development.

Live reviews

I've been an Electric Wizard fan for about 15 years and have never had the opportunity to see them live. In fact, knowing they had played Maryland Deathfest X a few years back, before I starting attending it, had me gritting my teeth in frustration at missing the spectacle. So learning of this tour was a big deal, to say the least.

I was also already a fan of opening act Satan's Satyrs so that was just pungent icing on the rotten black cake. SS put on a great show, are very lively on stage, and played for nearly an hour! Can't remember the last time I saw an opening band do that, if ever. Additionally, bassist/vocalist Clayton Burgess is now also the bassist for Electric Wizard, so for him to be enthusiastic and giving his all when he was about to play another full, even longer, set was commendable.

Just before the lights dimmed for the main event, a smoke machine started to pour on the atmosphere. Then darkness came along with the pulsing portion of "Crypt of Drugula" used as an intro. As the band took the stage, my anticipation was high to say the least. I was hoping for thunderous, floor-rumbling, chest-thumping DOOM in a league of its own.

Unfortunately I did not get it. Not at first, anyway. "Witchcult Today" and "Black Mass" are fine songs but are very different from the suffocating dirge of the Dopethrone material, the band's best. Likewise, these songs didn't bring the heaviness live. "Satanic Rites of Drugula" got a little closer, and "Dopethrone" closer still (though it should have been massive). Finally when "Return Trip" arrived, everything changed for the better.

"Return Trip" is a crushing track on record, and thankfully the band pulled it off live. Enormous, smothering riffs flattened the crowd and this song was the highlight of the show for sure. Moreover, it was as if this song unlocked great sound for the rest of the performance. Leaping forward to newer tracks "Incense for the Damned" and "Time to Die," these too sounded heavier than the first few songs of the set, and "The Chosen Few" followed suit. Soundboard and band were in synch now and glorious riff destruction followed.

"Funeralopolis" is arguably the best song the band have ever penned and it was fittingly used as a closer. The crowd had been relatively tame up this point, lulled by trudging doom, but as the "fast" section of this song erupted, a pit broke out as attendees became frenzied.

One other notable aspect of the show were the "visual aids." On a large screen behind the band were projected clips of campy '70s horror flicks with lots of naked woman, skulls, Satanic rituals, and the like. In other words, the classic schtick which is all part of the Electric Wizard motif.

The 'Wizard didn't fully bring the punishing, filthy, blown-out heaviness I was really hoping for, but they did put on a damn fine show that I would recommend to any doomster. You just don't get many opportunities to see these doom stalwarts.

Currently, the first result that comes up when you put Electric Wizard Live into Youtube is of the Dorset based Doom metallers pummelling the living out of a song called Satanic Rites of Drugula. This song title basically sums up everything about the band on record, containing as it does references to Satanism, horror iconography and illicit substances in four words and a handy pun. The video, on the other hand, shows you what to expect from an Electric Wizard concert, which is quite a lot simpler. Expect riffs. Riffs upon riffs backed up with a few more riffs before exploding into even more disgustingly heavy riffs. The four piece are led by Jus Oborn, a man who can quite easily and accurately claim to *be* Electric Wizard. Live, their business is to taking the sound and aesthetic of early Sabbath records and somehow drawing even more malevolence out of it by slowing the whole thing down by more than a few bpm. It’s the kind of loud that you feel, rather than hear, and it’s downright evil at points. Not in the Marilyn Manson style face paint and bondage gear way, you understand, it’s more primal than that. This is the kind of music where the very structure of it repels as much as it fascinates, and as good as it gets on record, it’s an utterly unmissable live spectacle for anyone with a fascination with the dark side of rock ‘n’ roll.

Electric Wizard is one of the most exciting and heaviest alternative/rock/metal bands in UK. Until last moment I dond't know will I make it to see doom metal gods in The Ritz. About venue, this is one of two best places to watch any band in Manchester, the other one is o2 Apollo. Unfortunately, because I was there really late I missed all supports. What I can say about Electric Wizard? In their music is definitely more coven than drugs these days. I will not say it's bad, because it's not, I think their show was exciting, despising playlist. Their setlist made this gig one big, heavy as hell show! Their music flow for over an hour and most of the attenders was stunned. Of course, it was very hard to stop starring at Liz, as usual, but visualizations from musicians favorite movies were catching attention too! New-old drummer was fairly descent, but you can sound a difference between him and mighty Mark Greening! It was my second meeting with Electric Wizard this year and I must say that I can't wait for another one!

Always a thrill to see Electric Wizard live! An intense, Earth shattering event fit for an apocalyptical end to the world! I'm still shaking from the deep dark slow rumble of their instruments!

On another note, Midnight was surprisingly great! They need to adjust their vocal mics though so we can hear their singer better. Other than that, great band.

Lastly, Brooklyn Steel needs to post their price list for their libations. It's always sticker shock to buy a drink there as you don't know what you are getting into!

Good stuff!

The Wiltern is a horrible venue for a band like Electric Wizard. After two songs, the venue decided to cut their visuals because they deemed them inappropriate. That kind of censorship is inexcusable and disgusting. We all came out for a metal show, not some PG13 shit. I will never come back to The Wiltern and I hope they get an ass load of bad juju for the shit they're trying to pull.

Not much to say about the show other than it was rather dull and uneventful. I flew all the way to Amsterdam from New York to see them as well... At least Harrlem and all of Amsterdam was enough to make my trip there memorable!

Good show. Once again thanks to crappy PA at Circus (Helsinki) some of the guitars and singing were too quiet to hear. Really awesome visuals. Mostly songs from old albums and Funerapolis at the end was purely fantastic.

Electric Wizard is always a great band to see when you can.

A crushing force upon your skull, and your ears will cry in joy. Relentless and unforgiving, just relax and accept the raw power.

U of I Locations: Moscow (Main Campus)

From the moment you step on campus, you’ll understand why the University of Idaho has been named the most beautiful college in the state . Iconic buildings are connected by tree-filled green spaces, walkable paths and welcoming plazas. Don’t be surprised if you’re greeted with a friendly smile and wave from a peer or professor, especially on the historic Hello Walk.

Our community extends way beyond campus. Moscow is a tight-knit town of about 25,000 people, full of vibrant activities, businesses and events that love to welcome college students. You’ll find incredible opportunities for recreation and exploration in the surrounding area, too.

Want to see it all for yourself? Plan your campus visit today .

Life on Campus

Whether you live in the residence halls , a fraternity or sorority or off-campus, you’ll be minutes away from your classes and places to study and play.

There’s always something to do: grab a snack in the Idaho Student Union Building , check out a book from the U of I Library 's more than 2 million holdings, take in the beauty of nature in the Arboretum and Botanical Garden , watch a play in the Hartung Theater  or a game in the ICCU Arena , take a fitness class in the Student Recreation Center , catch a Vandal Entertainment -sponsored concert and so much more.

A True College Town

Venture only a few minutes off campus and you’ll be in downtown Moscow. It’s no wonder Seattle Magazine called it “a college town with a soul that shines through year-round” — the calendar is packed with festivals, cultural events and community gatherings like our award-winning farmers’ market on Main Street.

No matter what you like to do, you’ll find an activity to fall in love with . Experience a local art museum or theater production, dance to a live band at a street fair or a local coffee shop, dress in period garb for the Moscow Renaissance Fair or enter a local 5K run or bike race. Volunteer opportunities abound with local nonprofits that support the arts, sustainability, youth and children, the LGBTQ community, health care and more.

And did we mention food? You’ll find a huge co-op with natural and organic options, cozy pubs and coffee shops with Pacific Northwest vibes, locally owned restaurants with cuisines from around the world, and funky hole-in-the-wall spots for affordable college-town snacks.

A Hub For Outdoor Adventure

Moscow sits at the heart of the Palouse, a one-of-a-kind landscape of rolling hills and scenic vistas. We’re surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers full of opportunities for adventure , whether you love hiking, biking, camping, fishing or just taking in a gorgeous sunset. You’ll experience all four seasons in North Idaho, too — so bring your sunscreen for a late-summer rafting trip and your parka for skiing, snowboarding or ice skating in the winter.

Gain outdoor skills and connect with other adventurous students through the U of I Outdoor Program . Want to take your own excursion? Rent equipment through the Outdoor Rental Center .
