The Chicks had so much fun on tour in 2022, they’re doing it all over again this summer.

Starting July 21 and running up until Sept. 18, Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire will travel all over North America as part of their 2023 World Tour .

“Thank you to all our fans for making last Summer so fun!” the trio shared over Instagram . “It’s time to get the party going again! We can’t wait to see everyone!”

This time around, the 12-time Grammy winners will play New York venues three times midway through the run.

First, they’ll hit Bethel’s Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Aug. 3, Saratoga Springs’ Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Aug. 6 and Canandaigua’s Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center on Aug. 11.

Plus, the “Cowboy Take Me Away” singers won’t be going it alone.

On select dates, The Chicks will be bringing along special guests Maren Morris, Ben Harper and Wild Rivers.

Best of all, tickets can be secured as early as today .

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Thursday, Feb. 16, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before they’re officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

The Chicks 2023 tour schedule

Before The Chicks jet-set all over the globe, they’ll headline six nights at Las Vegas’ Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood from May 3 through May 13 .

Once their “Six Nights In Vegas” residency concludes, they’ll perform all over Europe before returning stateside on July 21 for their first U.S. concert as part of the official summer tour at Tulsa, OK’s BOK Center .

From there, the country stars hit big cities like Nashville (July 27), Hershey, PA (Aug. 10), Madison, WI (Aug. 26), Kansas City (Aug. 29) and Vancouver (Sept. 5).

The tour wraps up at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Sept. 18.

A complete calendar including all U.S. and Canada tour dates, show start times, venues and links to buy tickets can be found here .

The Chicks new music

In 2020, The Chicks dropped “Gaslighter,” their first album made up of new songs since 2006’s “Taking The Long Way.”

Made up of 12 tracks, the empowering record tells the story of Maines’ divorce from her husband, “Heroes” actor Adrian Pasdar.

Rolling Stone said “(‘Gaslighter’) conveys a push toward a calmer sort of freedom” for the group.

If you want to hear the poppy, earnest record, you can listen to “Gaslighter” in its entirety here .

The Chicks set list

Last summer, the group formerly known as The Dixie Chicks stuck to a 22-song set that they played at most gigs with just a bit of variation according to Set List FM .

While we can’t predict what they’ll play this time around, here was what one could expect when they played last year:

01. ) “Sin Wagon” 02.) “Gaslighter” 03.) “Texas Man” 04. ) “Julianna Calm Down”

05.) “The Long Way Around”

06.) “My Best Friend’s Weddings”

07.) “Sleep at Night”

08.) “Travelin’ Soldier” (Bruce Robison cover)

09.) “Wide Open Spaces”

10.) “Tights on My Boat”

11.) “Lubbock or Leave It”

12.) “Cowboy Take Me Away”

13.) “Long Time Gone/Daddy Lessons”

14.) “Landslide” (Fleetwood Mac cover)

15.) “Truth #2” (Patty Griffin cover)

16.) “March March”

17.) “For Her”

18.) “White Trash Wedding”

19.) “Everybody Loves You”

20.) “Young Man”

21.) “Not Ready to Make Nice”

22.) “Goodbye Earl “

The Chicks opening acts

If each show of The Chicks’ tour seem like co-headliner concerts, that may be intentional — the group is bringing some high-profile names along with them this time around.

Here’s what you need to know about each of The Chicks’ special guest opening acts.

Maren Morris headlined all over the U.S. in 2022 as part of her “Humble Quest Tour.” With a Grammy, six albums and a “Sesame Street” appearance under her belt as well, she has quite an impressive resume for an opening act. Want to see if you recognize her voice? Check out “The Middle” which has been streamed over 1.3 billion times on Spotify.

Ben Harper , 53, rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with his backing band The Innocent Criminals. These days, Harper remains active having just released the 11-track record “Bloodline Maintenance” in 2022. For our money though, his greatest song though will always be the jangly “Homeless Child” from his 1997 album “The Will To Live.”

Wild Rivers is a Canadian folk group made up of vocalist Devan Glover, guitarist/vocalist Khalid Yassein and guitarist/synths Andrew Oliver. As of now, Wild Rivers has only released two records — 2016’s self-titled “Wild Rivers” and 2022’s “Sidelines.” If you want a taste of their sound, start with the band’s biggest single “Thinking ‘Bout Love,” which is emblematic of their heartland sound.

Country stars on tour in 2023

It’s a good year for live music.

Many of the biggest names in country are on tour all year long and we can’t wait to see them live.

Here are just five of our favorites you won’t want to miss when they come to a venue near you over the next few months.

•  Carrie Underwood

•  Reba McEntire

•  Shania Twain

• Bonnie Raitt

Here Is The Chicks’ World Tour Setlist For 2023

Megan Armstrong

In late July, The Chicks began the North American leg of their 2023 world tour with Ben Harper , Maren Morris , and Wild Rivers taking turns as the opener.

Unfortunately, shows in Nashville, Tennessee (which was supposed to take place on July 27), Knoxville, Tennessee (July 29), Greensboro, North Carolina (July 30), and Columbia, Maryland (August 2) have had to be rescheduled “due to an ongoing illness.” The Chicks were also forced to cancel their scheduled stop at Bethel Woods Center For The Arts in Bethel, New York.

The band revealed on Instagram that they will now visit Greensboro on August 8, Columbia on September 20, Knoxville on September 21, and Nashville on September 23. All forthcoming dates can be found here .

It’s possible that more shows are impacted by the ongoing, unspecified illness within The Chicks’ tour party, but prepare for their return to the stage by studying their setlist below. It’s based upon the setlist chronicled on setlist.fm from The Chicks’ July 25 concert at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

1. “Gaslighter” 2. “Sin Wagon” 3. “Texas Man” 4. “Julianna Calm Down” 5. “The Long Way Around” 6. “My Best Friend’s Weddings” 7. “Sleep At Night” 8. “Ready To Run” 9. “Travelin’ Soldier” (Bruce Robison cover) 10. “Wide Open Spaces” 11. “Tights On My Boat” 12. “Daddy Lessons” / “Long Time Gone” 13. “Cowboy Take Me Away” 14. “Landslide” (Fleetwood Mac cover) 15. “Rainbowland” (Miley Cyrus cover) 16. “Don’t Let Me Die In Florida” (Patty Griffin cover) 17. “March March” 18. “For Her” 19. “White Trash Wedding” 20. “Everybody Loves You” 21. “Not Ready To Make Nice” 22. “Goodbye Earl”

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting The Chicks tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Review: The Chicks are fearlessly political in world tour

Armita mirkarimi ’25 reviews the chicks 2023 tour after seeing them in concert in gilford, new hampshire..

the chicks.png

I went to see The Chicks so I could sing “Wide Open Spaces” at the top of my lungs. I wanted to jump up and down to Martie Maguire’s fiddle and let Natalie Maines’s voice wash over me. But, instead, I was confronted by music as a language of resistance.

On Aug. 5, the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion venue in Gilford, New Hampshire was filled with women spanning from Generation X to Generation Z. Light-up cowgirl hats peppered the lawn as the sun set. Mothers held the hands of their young daughters as they waited in the long merchandise line for the band’s “Goodbye Earl” and “Sin Wagon” t-shirts. The humid New Hampshire summer breeze breathed on my neck as I waited for the opener — Wild Rivers — to play the only song of theirs I knew, “Thinkin’ Bout Love.”

The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, have long been a voice of defiance in country music to me. Their feminist anthem, “Goodbye Earl,” blasted from the speakers during my carpools throughout high school, and the fast-building bridge of “Not Ready to Make Nice” aided me through every breakup and falling out. The trio gave me musical language to express the hopes, dreams and despairs of growing up.

Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines and Emily Strayer, the three members of The Chicks, have not put out music since 2006 — a nearly 14-year hiatus — following heavy criticism in 2003 for speaking out against the war in Iraq. According to The Gazette, Maines, the trio’s lead singer, directly called out then President George Bush in front of their London audience.

“We don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas,” Maines said.

Their CDs were burned by the public and the trio received numerous death threats in the aftermath of Maines’s comment. In 2020, the country band made their return to music with their album, “Gaslighter.” They also changed their name from The Dixie Chicks to The Chicks. According to NPR, the band committed to the change in order to “distance” themselves from a name associated with the Confederacy.

The trio opened the show with “Gaslighter,” which also begins their album of the same name. The first verse of the song is sung without instrumental accompaniment, so I was blessed with a three-part harmony of the opening lyrics, “Gaslighter, denier, doing anything to get your [sic] further / Gasligher, big timer, repeating all the mistakes of your father.”

The mother-daughter pairs in the audience screamed these two verses into each other’s faces as cartoonish men with masks on backdropped The Chicks. Throughout the concert, the digital visuals behind the group competed for my attention. The graphics started as surreal and absurd, and a projected countdown jumping from the number seven to nine to 83 preceded every song.

The setlist was a mix of old fan favorites — “Cowboy Take Me Away, ” “Not Ready to Make Nice” and “Wide Open Spaces” — and their newer hits on the “Gaslighter” album like “Texas Man” and “Tights on My Boat.” Maines’s crisp vocals accompanied Maguire’s fiddle and Strayer’s banjo.

The group’s older songs like “Not Ready to Make Nice” were more theatrical than their more recent tracks. A piercing red light swept the stage as Maines screamed, “I’m not ready to back down,” and she controlled her voice up and down the octave as she approached the climax of the song. The band contrasted these bigger numbers with their intimate cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” As the song began, the digital backdrop faded. The stage was physically bare. All I could hold onto was Maguire’s guitar, Maines’s voice and Strayer’s banjo.

Following their hiatus, the new Chicks are particularly political. It is clear from their show that the group not only aspires to entertain but to empower marginalized communities. Halfway through the concert, Maines said that the Chicks celebrate Pride Month 365 days a year. The band followed the statement with a rendition of Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus’s “Rainbowland.” Unicorns and rainbows populated the visual background as the lyrics, “I won’t give up, I’ll sleep a wink, It’s the only thought I think, you know where I stand, I believe we can start living in a Rainbowland,” were projected on the screen.

After “Rainbowland,” the trio played one of their newer songs, “March March.” While video footage from the Selma to Montgomery marches started playing on the digital background, drum beats could be felt beneath our feet. The footage was then dispersed by visuals of the 2020 George Floyd protests. The lyrics of “March March” are especially poignant: “March, march to my own drum / Yeah, I’m an army of one.”

The song references the many mass shootings of the past decade (“Print yourself a weapon and take it to the gun range. Ah, cut the [sic], you ain’t goin’ to the gun range”),” climate change: (“Temperatures are risin’, cities are sinking” and bodily autonomy (“Tell the ol’ boys in the white bread lobby what they can and can’t do with their bodies”).

“March March” ends with a one minute and 53 second instrumental interlude. During that time, The Chicks stepped away from the center of the stage as the digital backdrop projected hundreds of names of Black Americans impacted by police brutality. The names started with Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd and ended with Emmett Till.

The audience shifted from linked arms, skipping to Maguire’s fiddle, to still bodies, glued to the screen. One minute we were screaming the lyrics to “Ready to Run” and the next, we were reminded of the ongoing struggle for freedom and equality in the country.

This is the distinct power of The Chicks. They remind me of my longing for adventure and the intense need to explode in moments of rage. The Chicks permit me to feel through all of my emotions, no matter how scary. The trio also highlights mass social movements in America. They force their audience to retreat from the bubble of “Wide Open Spaces” and face the injustices which take place in our communities.

After the concert, I found myself questioning if a concert is the right time to wrestle with social justice issues. But where else are we to learn to “March to our own drum” if not through song? I think of the 13-year-old ahead of me in line for the bathroom after the concert. She probably bounced up and down to “Cowboy Take Me Away” and froze in time during “March March.” The Chicks created this dual experience. Their musical genius does not lie in their tight harmonies or complicated riffs; The Chicks sell out shows after their hiatus because they are musically unapologetic. Their concert was fearless in both fiddle and belief.

2023 has so far been an excellent year to be a fan of The Chicks , with the Grammy-winning country group taking their sprawling array of chart-toppers across the US, Europe and beyond.

The Chicks started 2023 with an electric series of shows at Zappos Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada , before heading across The Pond to perform in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland.

One of the most exciting festivals of the summer has undoubtedly been BST Hyde Park , with The Chicks being booked to perform as opening acts for both of Bruce Springsteen's shows in July .

Here you can find The Chicks’ updated setlist as they embark on their 2023 concert tour.

Unsurprisingly, the much-loved trio have been interspersing all of their biggest hits throughout their 2023 sets, with The Chicks generally closing out their high-energy performances with a stellar rendition of their iconic track, ‘Goodbye Earl’.

Also making the cut this year is their anthemic, rose-tinted 1999 No. 1 single, ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’, which continues to be one of the main cover songs of choice for a plethora of modern country stars, such as Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce .

‘Wide Open Spaces’ is another crowd-pleasing inclusion, while elsewhere in the set The Chicks have been complementing their biggest numbers with a couple of impressive covers, including Bruce Robison's ‘Travellin’ Soldier’. In addition, they've thankfully been regularly performing their celebrated Fleetwood Mac cover, ‘Landslide’.
