FKA Twigs Makes Musical Return With Two Shell on ‘Talk to Me’

The dance duo Two Shell have been teasing their latest single “Talk to Me” for more than two weeks. On Bandcamp , they’ve been rolling out cryptic renditions of the record, each paired and branded with a different artist. There’s a Frank Ocean version, with the singer’s face emerging from glitchy artwork. There’s a Taylor Swift version, which has a distorted image of her bursting out of a gold treasure chest in outer space. The Chris Martin, PinkPantheress, and JungKook versions are similarly chaotic.

But the latest version is the only rendition to receive an official release across streaming services with its official featured artist: FKA Twigs . The record, which features an entirely new arrangement and instrumental, marks the first release from the musician since 2022. The cover art similarly features Twigs’ face breaking through a nearly indecipherable image, with the members of Two Shell on either side of her.

Earlier this year, Twigs began teasing her forthcoming album on Discord. The project was inspired primarily by the move she made to Prague a few summers ago, where she “fell in love with techno.” The musician clarified that “the album isn’t techno but the spirit is there,” adding: “It’s deep but not sad… I’m not sad anymore.”

While in album mode, Twigs hasn’t been keeping up with much of the new music landscape, but mentioned that she’s recently found herself drawn to Two Shell. Their collaboration is a leap forward for Twigs, who began crafting her next era from scratch after dozens of her demos were leaked by a hacker last October. “I got hacked, somebody leaked 85 of my demos,” she wrote on Instagram Stories at the time. “Well done, no new music for a while now.”

Two Shell on DJing: “In some circles it’s more about clout and name dropping than the music”

In their first published interview, Two Shell spoke about DJ culture and making music last forever

Two Shell have spoken about their ambiguous public image and shared their thoughts on dance music culture in a new interview with The Face .

The London duo have stirred significant interest since releasing their debut EP on Livity Sound in 2019, releasing a number of dancefloor-conquering bangers that merge club functionality with sugary sounds, experimental edge and threaded concepts, primarily through their own Mainframe Audio label.

They’ve also captured attention for their enigmatic approach that has seen the duo remain anonymous and appear to skewer certain elements of contemporary dance music, apparently wanting to shift away from elitism in dance music and focus more on the music and having fun.

Speaking to Chal Ravens in The Face , Two Shell noted: “it’s important for us to push the form and focus the attention on the music. like we were saying before about the music industry thing, it’s kind of the same with djing in a diff way. in some circles it sort of exists for itself, like some big networking machine where it’s more about clout and name dropping than the music”.

For a recent Boiler Room session session at Barcelona festival Primavera , the duo are rumoured to have sent two MF Doom-style imposters in their place to dance in front of the decks on camera while a pre-recorded set of theirs was played through the system.

Speaking about their approach to community building around the project, Two Shell said: “we want to make new ways for people to feel excited about the things they like, and to maybe change the perceived value of certain items, like music files.

“it’s also about making things accessible, we believe in letting go of our music and not having a hierarchy where the makers live up in the big oak tree and the villagers can't get up to pick the good berries. it’s like, let’s shake this tree and let all the tasty fruit come crashing down - and we do like to think we make tasty fruit.”

When questioned about what party they would visit if given access to a time machine, Two Shell kept their focus on the now and the future: “we’re here to help peeps feel something in the now. we can use music to bring back spirits of dead people, we don't need to bring back the old days for our grandaddies to feel smooth and sexy, we love him just the way he is”.

Elsewhere in the interview, they discussed their shell.tech site, wanting to make their own pop stars, and understanding how music can last forever.

• In the two months since it finally came out, Two Shell's " home " has already ascended to the pantheon of post-dubstep greats, its chipmunk vocal and melancholy melody joining the likes of classics from Jacques Greene and Fantastic Mr. Fox. But it still sounded distinctly now, with its breakneck speed and sugary hyperpop glaze. Those touches made "home" more fun, or at least less self-serious, than its brooding predecessors. The duo follow-up "home" with ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ , a 21-minute mixtape—available here until the end of the month—of originals that shows off everything polyrhythmic techno to a flip of Hannah Montana's "Hoedown Throwdown." ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ touches on all kinds of UK dance music, but the only track in the mixtape that could be mistaken for their earlier Livity Sound releases comes in around seven minutes. Two Shell unleash a bassline so fierce that it tears through the drums as if they were made of papier-mâché. The rest of the mixtape builds upon the SOPHIE-inspired neon sheen we heard on "home." The album's second track, for example, is a duet between a bright arpeggio and a sugary vocal that sounds more Hannah Diamond than Hemlock. The guitar strums that snake over the 2-step drums on the opener hits closer to " BTSTU '' than " CMYK ." On the mixtape's back half, the duo leave their roots behind to try trance and progressive house on for size. With a notable vocal contribution from Siri (the track that starts around the 13-minutes is built around her asking, "Mum is calling. Would you like to answer?"), buoyant xylophones and dubby chords turn the mood summery. But it's a distinctly British summer, with the broken, syncopated drums like clouds covering up the sun. ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ is a tour through the some of the shiniest bits and bobs of UK dance music from the past decade-and-change. What made the original post-dubstep records in the early 2010s so compelling was their bold, swooning emotion, often borrowed wholesale from R&B tracks. And though the London duo go exceptionally big with their choices here, each track still feels intimate and sincere. They channel both the sonic and emotional palettes of post-dubstep, though Two Shell's sometimes silly, sometimes vulnerable brand of dance music is also very 2022. ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ underlines why Two Shell are quickly giving Bicep and Overmono a run for their money as the UK's most beloved purveyors of wide-eyed dance music.

Two Shell release new EP, 'home', on Mainframe Audio: Listen

The title track became a mainstay in the sets of DJs such as Four Tet and Ben UFO last summer

Two Shell have released their much-hyped track 'home' as part of a new two-track EP.

Out now on their own Mainframe Audio, the track is backed by another cut called 'no reply'. 'home' became a mainstay in the sets of DJs such as Ben UFO, Four Tet and Avalon Emerson last summer, with Ben UFO also featuring the track in his most recent Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1.

Both tracks were previously only available on a limited edition 12" white label, which sold out quickly last summer. Now available digitally, they've also been given the repress treatment on vinyl.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Overnight storms brought cool, dry air Sunday to the Charles Schwab Challenge, where two young players with a history will compete in the final group.

Golf’s most dominant player of the moment, Scottie Scheffler, shot 7-under 63 in the third round to earn a spot in Sunday’s final group. He’ll begin the round four shots behind leader Davis Riley.

Scheffler is No. 1 in both the FedExCup and the world ranking by wide margins after winning four of his previous six starts, including THE PLAYERS and Masters Tournament. Riley is ranked 250th and 151st in the FedExCup. He is seeking his first individual win on the PGA TOUR; he previously won the TOUR’s lone team event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, with Nick Hardy in 2023.

They have vastly different resumes, but they also have a history.

Both players are 27 years old and played college golf at two of the country’s top programs. Scheffler went to Texas, while Riley played at rival Alabama. They also met in the final match of the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, California. Scheffler won that match, 3 and 2, after Riley called a one-stroke penalty on himself after his ball moved as he addressed a birdie putt on the 16th hole. The resulting bogey ended the match.

“It took a lot of heart to do that,” Scheffler told the Reno Gazette-Journal that day.

It will take a lot of heart for either of them to prevail Sunday at Colonial Country Club. Riley will have to fend off one of the best closers in golf. Scheffler, a 10-time winner with four wins already this season, will have to erase a significant gap.

“Going into today I wanted to post a good number,” Scheffler said Saturday afternoon. “I didn't obviously know what the leaders were going to do, but just tried to do my best to not look too far ahead and continue to go out there and execute and try and give myself as many looks as possible.”

He has made plenty of birdies after shooting 2-over 72 on Thursday. Scheffler followed with rounds of 65-63 to vault from the cut line to contention. He has made 12 birdies and no bogeys in his previous 36 holes.

Riley opened the third round with five birdies through eight holes to build a seven-shot advantage. But he had trouble finding the narrow ribbons of fairway at Colonial, and he made bogey on the ninth and 10th.

“I turned to my caddie, I was like, ‘Let's reset, we're doing a lot of good things, let's just hit the reset button and get back in our process,’” Riley said. “And I feel like we did a good job of that and yeah, played, I guess it was 1-under on that last, I guess, seven or eight holes. So I was proud of the way – with the gusty winds and stuff like that, I was proud of the way I kind of handled it.”

Their last pairing is scheduled to start at 12:50 p.m. local time under a blazing sun. Pierceson Coody and Hayden Buckley will start three strokes behind them, at 9 under. Stalwarts such as Keegan Bradley (6 under), Tony Finau (7 under) and Collin Morikawa (6 under) are within range at the par-70 Colonial, where low scores and hot streaks are legend.

One year ago, Riley and Scheffler reprised their junior amateur match at the last World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Scheffler, the defending champion, dispatched Riley in the first match at Austin Country Club. He went on to finish fourth.

“I've known Scottie for a long time and played a lot of junior golf with him, college golf, and he obviously is playing some really good golf right now,” Riley said. “So he's going to come out swinging, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and it will be a fun day competing out there.”

Recalling their previous tussles, Riley added: “We’ll see if we can rewrite the script a little bit.”

How a shell casing, phone calls and a ‘shiesty mask’ helped jso connect a teen to his father’s murder, shane payne jr. is accused of plotting to kill his father then murdering the friend who he conspired with.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Early one morning in 2022, someone living in The Palms at Ortega apartment complex took their dog for a walk.

During the walk, behind a dark apartment building in the Ortega Farms neighborhood on the Westside of Jacksonville, they discovered the lifeless body of Timothy Dixon, 16 .

Dixon had been shot once in the head, investigators said, and a single 9mm shell casing was found on the ground near his body.

The murder of Dixon launched a nearly two-year investigation that eventually resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Shane Payne Jr., who is not only now charged with the murder of Dixon, his “very close friend,” but for the murder of his father, Shane Payne Sr., three days earlier.

According to an arrest warrant and other documents obtained by News4JAX, it was that single shell casing that first started to unravel the case.

This casing was submitted to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office firearm laboratory and it came back with a National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) hit indicating a match to a shell casing recovered from the murder of Shane Payne Sr.

Payne Sr. was executed on Aug. 3, 2022, while he lay in his bed inside a home in the Devinston housing development on the Northside. Investigators said there were several people inside the home at the time of the 11:30 p.m. murder , including children ranging from 4 years old to young teenagers.

Police said the shooter showed up at the house, walked straight to the back bedroom, shot Payne Sr., ran out of the house and drove off in a stolen Hyundai with “distinct damage.”

One of the teens interviewed that night was Shane Payne Jr., who was 15 years old at the time.

He told investigators he didn’t know who the shooter was, but gave a description of a man who was wearing a “shiesty mask,” a face and head covering similar to a ski mask that was popularized by rapper Pooh Shiesty .

Then a few days later, after Dixon was found dead, they started to realize that Dixon’s murder might be connected to the murder of Payne Sr.

Connecting the dots

As JSO was investigating the murder of Dixon, it started looking at Dixon’s phone records. They revealed that Dixon received four phone calls from Payne Jr. within an hour of when he was believed to have been shot, around 1:30 a.m.

JSO said Dixon and Payne Jr. were former neighbors and close friends.

While searching the phone, JSO also found a recent internet search for a “shiesty mask” as well as various screenshots of him getting GPS directions to the home where Payne Sr. was murdered. It also revealed that the device had logged a connection to the Payne Wi-Fi network early in the day on Aug. 3, the day Payne Sr. was killed.

According to JSO, Dixon’s cell site data showed that he got a phone call from Payne Jr. that day before his phone disconnected from the network. When the phone reconnected, its location was on the Northside, where the Payne home was located, and the subsequent data showed the device moving away from the Payne home back towards The Palms at Ortega apartment complex.

A JSO detective then reviewed residential surveillance footage and said it clearly showed what appeared to be a practice run of the eventual murder of Payne Sr. around 5:50 p.m. the day he was killed.

JSO said call records from Dixon’s cellphone records also revealed a large amount of communication between him and Payne Jr. on the day of Payne Sr.’s murder. Notably, there were two phone calls between the two less than 10 minutes before the murder took place, and the first call placed by Dixon after the murder was to Payne Jr.

Then on Aug. 13, investigators caught a big break.

On that day, about 10 days after Payne Sr.’s murder, and seven days after Dixon’s murder, JSO responded to a shooting off A. Phillip Randolph Boulevard.

The shooter was seen on video firing into a crowd of people. Luckily, no one was hit.

The investigation revealed that the shell casings recovered at that scene were linked to the murders of Payne Sr. and Dixon.

The shooter was eventually identified as Payne Jr., and he later pled guilty on Jan. 12, 2023, to carrying a concealed firearm during the shooting.

Arrest made

As JSO detectives started putting everything together, they interviewed Payne Jr. again in 2023 about the death of his friend after he was arrested in December in connection with an alleged home invasion robbery and kidnapping.

Payne Jr. told detectives that he did speak with Dixon the night he was killed, but went into his cousin’s apartment to get his hair cut. In the middle of their conversation, he said he went to use the bathroom and decided to be picked up by his mom when he was done. He said that he did see Dixon while on the apartment complex property, but when he left, Dixon was “alive and well.”

When he saw reports of a shooting at Ortega Farms, Payne Jr. told JSO he “knew” it had to have been Dixon.

Detectives spoke with Payne Jr.’s cousin who confirmed he did cut his hair but could not remember if he was at his home on that specific date, meaning the alibi was unconfirmed, JSO said.

But JSO saw that Dixon’s final incoming call before his death was from Payne Jr. at 1:20 a.m., and Payne Jr.’s phone records showed a phone call to his mother eight minutes later. There was also another outgoing call from Payne Jr. at 1:34 a.m. and witnesses on the neighborhood canvass during the initial response recall hearing a gunshot at 1:30 a.m., JSO said.

Between the phone calls, the cell tower data, the shell casings found at all three of the shooting scenes, and the close relationship between Dixon and Payne Jr., investigators now felt like they had everything they needed to establish probable cause that Payne Jr. plotted with Dixon to kill Payne Sr., and that Payne Jr. killed his friend three days later. Investigators allege it was actually Payne Jr. who let Dixon into the house to kill his father.

On Wednesday, JSO announced that Payne Jr. , who was already in jail, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

What is not included in all of the documents obtained by News4JAX, which are lightly redacted, is a motive. It’s not clear why Payne Jr. allegedly killed his father and his longtime friend. And that’s something that may never come to light.

Payne Jr. is being held without bond and a court date for he murder cases has not been set.
