Visitors to the UAE can now come to the country on a three-month visa, Khaleej Times can reveal.

A call centre executive at the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) said that people who want to visit the UAE for 90 days can make use of the opportunity. “They should consult their travel agents who will help them in issuing the 90-days visit visa,” said the call centre executive.

According to industry experts, this visa was introduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days. The visa can be extendable within the country at an additional cost based on the service provider.

Residents are not aware of this three-month visa, Libin Varghese, sales director at Rooh Tourism LLC, said.

According to industry experts, this was reintroduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days.

Different types of entry permits

“There are two types of entry permits — a tourist visa or a leisure visa and a visit visa. A tourist visa is issued for 30 or 60 days. The visit visa is issued for 90 days,” said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide, adding that this extended visit visa complements the existing tourist visa options, which includes a 30-day or 60-day stay, offering travellers greater flexibility in planning their itineraries.

The 30-day and the recently introduced 60-day tourist visas have long been popular among visitors seeking shorter stays in the UAE, providing ample time to explore the country's iconic landmarks and indulge in world-class shopping and dining experiences.

Who can apply?

Industry experts said that anyone can apply for this visa. “Currently, we have not received much inquiry about it, and visitors who prefer this entry permit are their family members residing in the UAE, as they want to spend a longer time. Take for instance, if a child who is studying in his home country visits UAE during vacations or parents of a resident,” said Varghese.

The fee for a 90-day-visit visa varies depending on your issuing travel expert, with a starting price of Dh1,500 and can go up to Dh2,000, which can even be extended within the country. “The exact details of extension has not been announced as the visa was introduced a few days ago,” said Varghese.

Documents required

According to Subair, one must submit the following documents if planning to apply for the long term visit visa:

  • Recent passport-size coloured photograph
  • Passport copy
  • Processing time

“Once a person applies for this visa, it may take up to five working days. But we can even receive it in two days,” said Subair.

Visitors to the UAE whose visas are about to expire can extend their stay by up to 60 days if necessary.

Anyone who does not go through the proper procedures and stays beyond the validity of their visit visa will be subject to fines of Dh50 ($13.61) a day.

Visitors who stay beyond the time allowed without renewing their visas can also be arrested for staying in the country illegally. Inspection campaigns are regularly carried out to catch offenders.

Here The National explains how to avoid these fines by applying for a visa extension.

No more 'grace period'

Visitors to Dubai will no longer be granted a 10-day grace period when their tourist visa expires, so travel agents, The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) are urging visitors to apply for a 30-day extension visa before their original visa expires.

This extension can be applied for twice, resulting in an additional 60-day visit.

“People wishing to stay in the UAE after their visit visa expires should apply for a 30-day extension visa to stay legally in the country,” said an ICP call centre agent.

“They can apply for a second 30-day extension, maximum.”

More than 14 million people visited Dubai in 2022. Reuters

The authority encouraged visitors to arrange the extension in advance of the current visa expiring, and warned of the upper limit for number of days spent in the country.

“People should be aware that the total duration of stay within a year should not exceed 120 days,” the agent said.

How much does it cost?

According to the ICP website, the cost of extending a visit visa is Dh610.

However, according to Amer, an immigration service centre, the cost for an extension of a visa issued by GDRFA-Dubai is Dh800.

Fees can vary between Dh800 and Dh1,100 when applying through a travel agency.

Where do I go to get the extension?

“The 30-day extension visa can be issued by the same travel agency that issued the visa for the customer in the first place," said Roshan Davis, manager of Golden Talent Tourism Agency in Dubai.

Visitors who obtained a visa on arrival can apply for an extension via the ICP or GDRFA-Dubai websites, or customer service centres.

Anyone with a visa on arrival can also take their passport to Dubai airport immigration in the Terminal 3 arrival area, Mr Davis added.

What are the required documents?

Holders of a visit visa should send a copy of their original visa and passport to the travel agent for extension. They can also visit the ICP or GDRFA-Dubai website to apply for an extension and the visa will be extended within 48 hours.

The passport should have a validity of at least six months to apply for an extension.

For how many days can validity be extended?

The service allows visit visa holders to extend their visa for up to 60 days, in two applications of 30-day extensions.

Who is the tourist visa for?

Those who do not qualify for a visa on arrival or visa-free entry to the UAE can apply for a tourist visa.

Citizens from 69 countries and states are eligible for a visa on arrival in the UAE . Females below the age of 18 are not eligible to apply for a tourist visa unless they are travelling with their parents.

How can I apply for a tourist visa?

Visitors from countries that do not have a visa-on-arrival arrangement with the UAE can apply for their visas in advance through a travel agency or through the airline.

UAE Visit Visa Extension: New Rules and Fees Simplified

Main Points

Extend Your UAE Visit Visa: New Rules and Costs Explained

Opens in a new tab.

If you have a visa to visit someone in the UAE, you can now extend it for 30 days, regardless of whether your original visa was for 30, 60, or 90 days. This decision was made by the UAE Cabinet and has been in effect for a few weeks.

Documents Required for the extension of UAE Visit Visa:

To extend your visa, you need to use the “UAEICP” smart application and provide

  • your original entry permit
  • a recent photo.

Your passport must also have at least six months of validity left.

Cost of extending UAE Visit Visa

The fee for extending a visit visa for 30 days is Dh750, which includes various charges like issuance fee, application fee, smart services fee, and an insurance and authority fee.

To be eligible for this service, you should be a relative or friend of someone living in the UAE, and you need to provide proof of your relationship and reasons for your visit.

If you make any mistakes or miss documents in your application, it may be rejected electronically after 30 days. You can get a refund of the fees you paid if your application is rejected, and this can be done through credit card, check, or bank transfer.

The UAE government is making it easier for residents to apply for visit visas for their relatives or friends through a user-friendly online application to improve customer service and meet the needs of various residents and foreigners in the country.

If you’re a tourist in the UAE and want to stay longer, you can extend your tourist visa , but you can only do it once for 30 days. This rule was decided by the UAE government.

How to Extend your UAE Visit Visa ?

To extend your UAE visit visa, here’s what you need to do:

  • If a tourist agency initially issued your visa, you should contact them to request an extension.
  • Keep in mind that when you apply for an extension, it will only be granted once, and it will be for a one-month period, as per the latest information from the ICP.
  • You can only extend your visa through the agency that initially applied for it. So, if a travel agency arranged your visa, you’ll need to go back to them for the extension.
  • If you want to stay longer than that, you’ll have to leave the country and then apply for a new tourist visa to re-enter. Some travel agencies offer a service to help you do this, but it depends on the approval of your new visa application.
  • Always stay within the timeframe of your visa to avoid legal problems due to overstaying.

UAE updates visit visas extension procedures

uae visit visa extension 2023

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) provided a new service for extending a visit visa for a relative or friend for one or multiple entries for a period of 30, 60 and 90 days, through the ICP’s smart channels. ICP also made it possible to extend the visa for a period of 30 days and for one time for holders of 90-day visas, but it is not allow to apply for residency renewal if the residency validity is more than 6 months (separate residency services).

It also provided the service of canceling and amending visa data for citizens of the GCC countries who do not have a UAE ID. Residents of the UAE can apply from abroad and on their own to obtain a visit visa for a relative or friend through the UAEICP smart application, ICP added.

ICP called on everyone to download the UAEICP smart application and take advantage of the many and varied services provided, including a request for a visit visa, which requires logging in through the app with the UAE Pass digital identity, then selecting “Start a new service”, then clicking on “New visa” where a list containing a visa for several trips would appear, depending on the type of visit visa, 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days.

“Once the applicant selects the service of issuing a visit visa through the app, according to its duration, all the data of the individual to be visited in the UAE will appear automatically, and then the steps for submitting the application can be completed after filling in the identification data of the applicant, to be followed by attaching the required documents and finally paying the prescribed fees”, ICP indicated.

After the issuance of the visa, the visa holder must enter the country within 60 days from the date of issuance, and the validity of the entry permit will be 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days, after which he must leave the country or extend the entry permit before expiration to avoid being fined with Dhs100 for each day, according to ICP.

ICP has set 4 conditions to obtain a visit visa, the first of which is that the visitor be a relative or friend of a citizen or resident in the UAE, attaching evidence of kinship and the reasons for the visit, and paying the financial guarantee determined according to the purpose. “If the purpose of the visa is that the foreign wife wanted to visit her husband who is a citizen of the GCC countries, it is required that she must have a valid residency in the home country of the husband.”, ICP explained.

UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023

The UAE is a country that attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year. Recently, the UAE Authorities announced there was a new entry system in the UAE , which established the procedures individuals had to follow to be able to enter the country.

Now, the Emirati Government is enforcing the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023, which state that visit visa holders cannot renew or extend their visas from within the country.

uae visit visa extension 2023

Nevertheless, it is important to point out that this was the rule previously, but they changed it when they announced the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2021 as part of humanitarian concerns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given that travel became difficult during the lockdown, the UAE allow individuals with a visit visa to renew or extend their stay without exiting the country. This was aimed to support employers in the UAE during the COVID-19 crisis and to relieve this burden from travellers since there were no worries about having to fly outside the country.

This regulation continued even during last year, so there were no UAE visit visa extension new rules 2022. However, now that travel is back to normal due to open borders, the UAE Government has decided to revert the rules to how they were earlier.

It is worth noting that these rules also apply to those that have landed a job and need a UAE Employment Visa and to those that want to change their visa status.

1.1 Understanding the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023

These new regulations were announced by the UAE Government, and they came into effect on December 23, 2022. Thus, this caused the discontinuation of within-the-country visa extensions in the UAE.

Although many are opting for an airport-to-airport visa change, it can be costly for some individuals and their family members. Nevertheless, there is also the option to leave by bus to Oman and re-enter the UAE, but this has been in high demand and is not available for everyone.

The UAE also announced some new visa reforms in October 2022. One of the reforms is that tourists can get a 60-day visit visa and they can choose the extension. For example, they can choose between single and multiple entries, of durations between 30-60 days.

About permits cancelled by sponsors or employers, individuals can apply for a new tourist visa without any issues. So, it is the perfect choice for those that want to stay for a little while in the UAE while they decide what to do.

2. Leaving the UAE to renew a visit visa is now mandatory

Since as part of the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023 it is now mandatory to leave the country, individuals need to follow the best advice to know which steps they should take next.

One of the first effects that this new regulation caused is that there has been a massive increase in demand for flight or bus tickets. Travellers in the UAE go to neighbouring countries like Kuwait , Bahrain , Saudi Arabia , and others to make the status change.

This is because individuals are advised to exit the country and re-enter to extend or request a new visa.

It is important to point out that individuals have to be careful with the grace period of the UAE Visa since they must leave the country or arrange the status change so they do not have to pay to  overstay fines in the UAE .

2.1 Comprehend which options are available to exit the country and re-enter the UAE

Here we have the most popular options for tourists as these UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023 take effect:

  • Exit the UAE by bus: this is the cheapest option since visitors can exit the country to Oman and request a visa change. However, this option is only available for those individuals from the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Also, buses are running at full capacity, so it will probably be difficult to get a bus ticket.
  • Airport-to-Airport: the airport visa change is also very common, however, it is a little more expensive. The process consists in travelling outside the UAE and then re-entering to make the visa change.

Many individuals want to know if there is still the possibility to extend the visa from within the UAE. Dubai allowed visitors to do the extension within the city, but now that is also suspended. Therefore, people have to leave the country and apply for a new visa.

Those that have to apply for a Dubai Transit Visa do not have to worry about this news, since this does not affect them.

2.2 Renew your tourist visa by the border with Oman

In case you are not sure about your visa validity, you can always check your UAE Visa with your passport number . Thus, you can see up to which date you can stay legally in the country.

If you would like to renew your visa, you can exit the country and travel to Oman. Here is the process you have to follow:

  • You need to purchase a bus ticket to Oman, or you can also self-drive to the border
  • Pay the exit and entry fee for Oman
  • Re-enter the UAE and apply for an on-arrival visa.

If your country is not eligible for an on-arrival visa, you have to apply for a prepaid visa.

2.3 Get a new visa with an airport-to-airport visa change

The other option available for extending your visit visa is to do an airport-to-airport change. You will have to follow the next steps:

  • Select the nearest Middle East airport to where you would like to travel. Keep in mind that flight tickets are in high demand, so it will probably be difficult to find one.
  • Prepare all the documents you will need to exit and re-enter the country, like a visa copy, a passport colour copy, and a photograph with a white background.
  • Book your visa change ticket as per the availability. This is a special flight ticket which has a visa change stamp.
  • Once you get to the airport, you will get an exit stamp and boarding pass.
  • Fly to the chosen airport and come back to the UAE
  • Get your new UAE Visa and enter the country to continue residing for the stipulated time

In case you are applying for an immigration change status to UAE resident, make sure to find out everything about the Dubai UAE Visa Stamping .

uae visit visa extension 2023

Regarding the pre-entry visa Oman requests to visitors, it is not necessary to do this process as long as you get a visa change air ticket.

Also, you can fly back to your home country and arrange a new visa, but this method can be very costly. The flight ticket can be much more expensive than to a nearby country. Moreover, perhaps you will have to buy a return ticket too, for when you exit your country.

Therefore, it is important to consider your choices very carefully for extending your UAE visa. Since the airport-to-airport is the most common one, then you can book a flight with your visa change ticket and solve this matter easily.

3. Learn about the extension options for on-arrival nationals

UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023

Individuals that can apply for a 30-day on-arrival visa can extend their document by following any of the next procedures:

  • Extension of on-arrival visa: the individual can extend the on-arrival visa for 30 more days. This visa has a 10-day grace period and during this time the individual can exit and get the new on-arrival visa.
  • Apply for a prepaid visa: the individual can apply for a prepaid visa (if eligible) and exit the country. Then, they can re-enter and get a 60-day prepaid visa.

In the case of those with a 90-day on-arrival visa, they can do the following:

  • Exit the UAE and apply for a prepaid visa: this is the cheapest option. They can leave the country through the border and enter with a 30 or 60-day prepaid visa.
  • Get an e-Visa: individuals can do the airport-to-airport visa change and get an express 30 or 60-day e-Visa.

You can request an extension for your tourist visa, even if it is a single-entry or a five-year multi-entry tourist visa .

4. See the extension options for Prepaid/Pre-arranged visa holders

According to the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023, those that are not eligible for on-arrival visas, can apply for a prepaid UAE visa before their arrival to the UAE.

The options you have available are the following:

  • Renew your prepaid visa twice: if you have got your prepaid visa with a sponsor, you can extend it for 30 more days. However, there are still no clarifications about the new reform, so it is essential to wait until there are updates about it.
  • Bus to Oman: some nationalities can get a bus to Oman to get access to visa run services with stay options.
  • Airport to airport: as with any other type of visa, prepaid visa holders can also fly to a near airport of another Middle Eastern country and get back to apply for a new visa.

5. Understand what you can do to extend your visa once it is cancelled

If you follow the process for UAE Visa Cancellation 2023 , you must know that you have two options. You can either apply for a new visa, perhaps a self-sponsored UAE visa , or just leave the country.

As part of the UAE visit visa extension new rules 2023, you can request a tourist visa and stay longer in the country if you have not finished what you have to do.

So, if you cancel your UAE visa, you should know you have a 30-day grace period to determine what you will do next. During this time, if you want to leave permanently, you can settle all your credit cards, loans, tenancy contract, mobile bills, and others, and book your flight for your next destination.

In case you are switching jobs, or you would like to stay longer, you can apply for a tourist visa with any of the other methods mentioned. Keep in mind that if you stay for more than 30 days, which is your grace period, you will incur overstaying. This can lead you to pay an AED 50 fine for each day.

If you are facing any issues like your employer delaying visa cancellation , you need to look for assistance. This is because you need to cancel your visa or you could face a UAE travel ban .

Financial Proof Required

To meet the new requirements, visitors need to present proof of having AED 3,000, which can be in cash or on a credit card. This measure is aimed at confirming that travelers have enough money to support themselves during their visit, thereby reducing the risk of overstays and ensuring they can cover their expenses while in Dubai.

Proof of Accommodation

In addition to financial proof, travelers must also provide an address where they will be staying. This could be the home of a relative or friend, or a hotel booking. This requirement helps authorities manage the influx of tourists and reduces the risk of illegal stays in the UAE.

Pre - Boarding Checks

These entry checks are now part of the pre-boarding process at various airports. Authorities are vigilant in verifying all required documents and proof before allowing travelers to board flights to Dubai. These measures are enforced not only in the UAE but also at airports in India and other countries to prevent non-compliant passengers from traveling.

Impact on Tourism

Officials believe that these stringent checks will positively impact Dubai's tourism sector . By ensuring visitors have enough funds and a confirmed place to stay, authorities aim to create a more transparent and secure travel experience. This proactive approach is expected to enhance the overall travel experience and maintain Dubai's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.

UAE's visiting visa rules: What has changed, what should travellers keep with them

 alt=

Dubai: The latest guidelines regarding the UAE visiting visa have become a matter of concern for many who were planning a trip to the country. Affi Ahammad, MD of Smart Travels said that the passengers should keep all the documents ready at hand to be produced at the airport, to ensure hassle-free travel. The guidelines state that the passengers arriving in the country on a visiting visa should carry: 1) A valid return ticket 2) Address of friends or relatives with whom they plan to stay. It's better if they travel from India with the relative with whom they are going to stay 3) Passport with a validity of six months 4) Copy of their Emirates ID 5) 5000 dirhams in account or equivalent amount as currency

Meanwhile, the guideline that one should carry a bank statement for the last six months isn’t strict. Also, if not 5000 dirhams, they should have at least 3000 dirhams with them or possess a credit card with the stipulated limit. Rules relaxed in 2020, but... The above rules existed earlier too, but they were relaxed in September 2020. The directives were repealed when the travel agencies expressed concern that it would disappoint job aspirants who wish to come to the UAE and that it would adversely affect the businesses. However, now, many are troubled that the government has made it stricter again. Many passengers, including Malayalis, who failed to fulfil these guidelines or produce necessary travel documents were detained at the Indian airports and were not allowed to board the planes.

Some others who managed to land in Dubai were reportedly detained by the immigration authorities there. The government’s move to make the visit visa guidelines stricter has quashed the dreams of many youngsters who were eager to find a good job in the UAE. People who belong to families that aren’t financially sound have struggled to arrange the money for purchasing visas and air tickets. Now, they can't arrange Rs 68,000 more so that they could adhere to the directives. In the beginning, the passengers were reportedly detained at the Dubai airport. However, now, checking has been made stricter at the Indian airports too. It was reported that a few passengers who hail from the Idukki district in Kerala were detained like this and sent back to India. But, the Dubai immigration authorities haven’t issued any official statement regarding this.

No new vacancies, boost for tourism The number of job seekers who arrive on visiting visas has gone up significantly, especially after the COVID-19 outbreak. Since the vacant posts were filled as soon as the pandemic subsided and the financial sector was recovering slowing, new vacancies weren’t created. Currently, hundreds of job aspirants are in UAE, trying hard to land a job. Among them, most Keralites are highly educated and experienced too. Inspections are conducted regularly at the airports in Dubai to ensure the safety of the passengers. Lots of cases have been reported for overstaying. Experts in the travel and tourism industry observe that the latest actions by the authorities would only boost the tourism sector in the Emirates. They say that strict inspection would make the immigration procedures transparent and would save the passengers from difficulties caused by miscommunication.

Most didn't have address proof The passengers who were detained at the airport in Dubai were the first batch of flyers who faced a crisis as they couldn’t produce proper travel documents. Even though most people could prove that they had the stipulated amount at hand, they failed to provide the address proof of relatives or other accommodation details. When some of them said that they were residing with their relatives, the officials inquired about their address and Emirates ID. But, the passengers had to return as they couldn’t produce these details. Meanwhile, some others had to wait at the airport for hours before returning. These people had to suffer such hardships at the airport as they weren’t informed about the guidelines by the travel agents. However, the travel agents say that they too had no idea as these weren’t stricter earlier.

'Yellowstone' filming begins for final season 5 episodes

Entertainment hollywood.

As 'Yellowstone' embarks on its final turn, fans brace themselves for emotional conclusion

Kevin Costner

After a prolonged hiatus, the acclaimed drama series, 'Yellowstone,' has finally recommenced production on its highly anticipated final season.

Paramount Network confirmed the exciting news on Monday, marking a significant milestone for fans eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the Dutton family saga.

Filming for the remaining episodes of season five has commenced in the picturesque landscapes of Montana, breathing new life into the beloved series, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite a delayed start, both MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios remain steadfast in their commitment to delivering the drama's conclusion as previously promised, with a tentative return slated for November, reaffirming expectations set forth last year.

Amidst the renewed excitement, questions linger regarding the involvement of key cast members, particularly the iconic portrayal of John Dutton by veteran actor Kevin Costner.

While hopes persisted for Costner's return to finalize his character's arc, recent developments cast doubt on his participation, signalling a potential departure from the series' conclusion.

A still from 'Yellowstone'

The series' hiatus left viewers hanging on a gripping cliffhanger, with tensions escalating within the Dutton family as Jamie Dutton challenged his sister Beth and father John, setting the stage for an impending showdown.

As filming progresses, anticipation mounts for resolutions to long-standing conflicts and the fate of fan-favorite characters.

Furthermore, the official episode count for the final season remains undisclosed, leaving room for speculation regarding the series' duration.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, creator Taylor Sheridan hinted at a possible extension beyond the initially reported six episodes.

As 'Yellowstone' embarks on its final journey, fans brace themselves for an emotional conclusion to one of television's most gripping dramas, eager to witness the culmination of years of storytelling and character development.

With filming underway, the countdown to one of the most-watched western dramas' farewell begins.

Home Office confirms changes to the EU Settlement Scheme

The changes will ensure that citizens can continue to prove their rights easily, and bring greater clarity for those required to check immigration status.

Changes to the EU Settlement Scheme announced today will ensure that all those granted pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme can continue to prove their rights easily, and bring greater clarity for those who are required to check immigration status, such as employers and landlords.

The changes support the Home Office’s practical implementation of the High Court judgment in the judicial review proceedings brought by the Independent Monitoring Authority for the Citizens’ Rights Agreements ( IMA ).

In response to that judgment, we announced changes to the EU Settlement Scheme in July 2023 to ensure that nobody loses their immigration status if they do not apply to switch from pre-settled to settled status.

The Home Office has continued to work closely with the IMA on the implementation of the judgment. Having listened to concerns raised by the IMA and others about the potential implications for those affected by the judgment, the changes announced today will ensure it remains easy for status holders to demonstrate their rights in the UK.

The Home Office will change the duration of pre-settled status extensions from 2 to 5 years. The Home Office will also remove the pre-settled status expiry date from the digital profiles shown to third parties in the online checking services for Right to Work, Right to Rent and View and Prove.

Alongside this change, employers, landlords and letting agents will not be required to conduct a further right to work or rent check where the individual remains in their employment or as part of that tenancy agreement.

The EU Settlement Scheme has been a great success. As of 31 December 2023, 5.7 million people had secured their rights in the UK through the scheme, with 2 million holding pre-settled status and 3.7 million holding settled status.
