Woman Seeks Refund for Canceled Bus Tour

Barbara D’Occhio was out $832 after she paid Meriden-based Silver Mill Tours for a now-canceled September bus trip for two to the Adirondacks. For weeks, she struggled trying to get her money—or even a phone call—back.

"If she just called and said, 'I’m working on it, I’m a little short of money, just be patient with me'," said D’Occhio. "It was the fact that she never answered my calls."

She told NBC Connecticut Responds she paid the full amount back in July, after seeing an ad in the paper.

"It was a little expensive," D’Occhio said. "But I said, 'Let’s just go'."

In August, Silver Mill sent her a letter saying not enough people signed up. The company offered to refund or rebook D’Occhio and her husband for a different trip.

"All the trips were to baseball games in New York and Massachusetts, and things like that," D’Occhio said. "I was not one bit interested."

After agreeing upon the refund, D’Occhio waited six weeks, leaving voicemails and speaking with receptionists. Her last call was to NBC Connecticut Responds.

When Responds reached out to Silver Mill Tours, the owner said she had no comment but decided to send D’Occhio a check for all $832.

Rosie worked for Dattco Inc for several years and then in 2005 went to work for Silver Mill Tours as a tour director and within a year became the Operations Manager until the passing of the Owner. At the end of August 2020 several people asked for me to continue the tour company and I said okay Next, Rosie decided to continue the tour company. Then it was time to find a new name. Lilly was my long-haired Chihuahua, and when I was on the road my family would take and spoil and love her to death. On Aug 5th she passed away very unexpectedly. I have a cousin that has dreams and she woke up in the middle of the night saying the name of the tours was to be Lilly’s Tours. This is how I came up with the name. Those that have been with me, know how much she was loved. The name of the tour company is in honor of her.

Yes, if the scheduled bus tour is more than 45 days away from the time of booking, a deposit may be made. Please call to make your deposit. A full payment may be made prior to the tour.

Deposits accepted:

• $20.00 Deposit for Bus Tours under $100.
• $30.00 Deposit for Bus Tours over $100.
• $150.00 for overnight Tours.

If the scheduled bus tour is less than 45 days away from the time of booking, full payment is required.

Our bus tour company is located in Bristol, Connecticut. Our bus tours depart and arrive in Bristol. If you have any questions about our tour schedule, please call now!

All sales are final. There are no refunds if you decide to cancel. However, if a bus tour is cancelled due to lack of sales, I will send back a check for the amount that you paid within 30 days of cancellation. Lillys Tours can only refund what is paid to us. We cannot refund any deposit or payment that you paid to Silver Mill Tours. Gratuities for drivers, tour directors, and local guides not included.

Donna L. Calvi-Sullivan OBITUARY

Donna Louise Calvi-Sullivan, loving wife of Mark Sullivan, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2020 at the age of 72. Donna was born in Meriden on May 1, 1948 to Albert and Clara (Cantarini) Calvi. Donna was a graduate of Orville. H. Platt High School (1966) and Central Connecticut State University (1970). She started her career as an English teacher at Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford CT, was a long-time employee of Dattco in New Britain CT, and for the last 15 years Donna was the proud owner of Silver Mill Tours in Meriden CT. Donna loved her family dearly and made friends any place she went. She loved to travel, was an avid Red Sox Fan and loved the theater. She bestowed these passions onto everybody that she loved. Above all else, Donna loved to make other people happy. Whether it was taking someone to a baseball game, on a trip to Washington DC or simply giving a birthday card, Donna never failed to give all the love she had in her heart. Donna is also survived by her stepchildren Kyle and Taylor Sullivan, grandson Julian Montanez, and her brother and sister-in-law Albert and Kathy Calvi. Donna is also survived by her many, beloved cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, June 29, 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E Main St, Meriden, CT. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jimmy Fund at www.jimmyfund.org/ways-to-give/ .
