I'm Laura Thornton ~  Director of Operations for Sharon Walters Travel . Growing up with a diverse background, I have had the privilege of residing in various cities across Texas, as well as in Hawaii, Virginia, Louisiana, and California. This early exposure to travel opened the door to exploring more than half of the United States, along with Mexico and Canada, sparking a profound passion within me for uncovering new destinations.

The fusion of my organizational zeal and my love for travel became the driving force that led me to a pivotal role in supporting Sharon with the day-to-day functions of our thriving travel business. Backed by my extensive journeys and an unwavering commitment to streamlined operations, I am wholeheartedly prepared to contribute to the company's triumphs and to ensure our clients embark on unforgettable travel escapades.

Born and raised in the South, but residing in San Diego, Rachel has spent most of her career in the sports and entertainment industries. With the Atlanta Braves and a few of the most well-known sports and entertainment agencies among her resume including WME - Endeavor (previously IMG) and Creative Artists Agency (CAA), she realized her strong passion for helping athletes learn the life skills necessary for success outside of the field, court, or stage they have built their brand upon. Her work ethic and extensive trust among clients led to an incredible opportunity to start her own company, PERKS Lifestyle Management, in which she assists clients with day-to-day needs as well as personal and professional development in all aspects of their lives. 

Rachel’s clients range from professional athletes to world-famous musicians, meaning no two days are ever the same. Her typical “day in the office” can include anything from setting up last-minute dinner reservations and coordinating domestic and international travel logistics to planning proposals, Super Bowl parties or world tours for high-profile clients. Her passion for travel has only grown throughout the years, as she is often found working in various cities around the globe, including 18 countries and counting.

She has become a professional in navigating clients among various time zones, and is extremely passionate about her clients, putting 100% effort into everything she does, no matter how big, small, or “crazy” the ask might be. Her friends and family often joke and call her a “professional babysitter,” but her clients are never surprised when she quickly and efficiently creates solutions for their unique needs and challenges. When she is not traveling, she is typically working from her home office in San Diego with her dog, Ghost, who rarely leaves her side.

Greetings, I am Sharon. Born in the foggy streets of London and raised amidst the windswept plazas of France, the sun-drenched hills of Italy, and the tulip-lined canals of the Netherlands, my wanderlust was ignited from a young age.

And so began my descent into the addiction of travel. I have traversed more than sixty lands, many of them more than once, and have developed a particular fondness for those destinations suffused with warmth, humidity, and tropical delights.

I am driven by my passion, and it is my joy to imbue my clients with that same fervor and craft for them a journey of a lifetime, each and every time.

Independent travel agency aims to raise £10,000 this year following cancer diagnoses for two employees

An independent travel agency in Northampton aims to raise £10,000 this year, as two employees were sadly diagnosed with breast cancer in recent months.

Footsteps Tours, located in Harborough Road, was first established in 2007 by Jo Brooks and offers escorted coach day trips and holidays, with pick ups nearby from The Cock Hotel.

The business also offers individual holiday bookings, boat and river cruises, group and family travel, and solo travel options.

It was in October last year when the business expanded, seeing it move from its former premises in the bowls club near Kingsthorpe Recreation Ground to Harborough Road.

Two Footsteps team members, Sharon and Andrea, were both sadly diagnosed with breast cancer in recent months.

As a result of this sad news, the travel agency decided to host a charity event each month of the year with the aim of raising £10,000 for Breast Friends Northamptonshire and Breast Cancer Now.

More than £500 has already been raised months in advance of an 11 kilometre walk around Pitsford Reservoir on July 13.

The news of Sharon and Andrea’s diagnoses “deeply impacted” the Footsteps team and they decided to share it on their social media platforms to followers – who Jo described as a “valued part of our extended community”.

Footsteppers are being asked to join the walk, to show solidarity to Sharon and Andrea and contribute to the global fight against breast cancer by raising vital funds.

Breast Friends was founded in 2017 by three women undergoing treatment, with the aim of providing support, promoting prevention and fostering a community for those facing their own battles across the county.

With the help of Macmillan Cancer Support and healthcare professions, the group became a registered charity offering peer support and organising events – and Andrea is now involved herself.

Jo, who shared that Andrea and Sharon received their diagnoses in March and April, said: “We were absolutely devastated. We’re a small, independent and very close working team.”

Despite being on very different treatment packages, for six and 15 months respectively, the pair have each received one round of chemotherapy already.

“In situations like this, you want to help,” said Jo. “You can’t make them better but you want to help in any way you can.”

The business already does a lot of charity work and it made sense for them to fundraise specifically for two important breast cancer charities. The upcoming monthly events also include an afternoon tea and a silent disco.

Jo says organising the fundraisers is giving Andrea and Sharon a goal to work towards and they are working hard behind the scenes for the important causes.

The money will make a “tremendous” impact, particularly to local charity Breast Friends Northamptonshire, and they are already more than a quarter of the way towards their £2,000 target.

As a small and independent travel agency, Jo stressed the importance of supporting local and getting behind one another as a community. She is pleased that around 40 people have already signed up for the sponsored walk around Pitsford Reservoir.

Twenty years in the military have given me many experiences and relationships that I cherish. My last assignment in Alaska led my husband and I to our decision to make our forever home in Idaho. We have lived in Latah County now for over fifteen years. I joined the staff at the University of Idaho and enjoyed working with so many wonderful people for over thirteen years.

I enjoy the beauty of Idaho, have traveled from Bonners Ferry to McCall to Nampa and surely believe we live in the most beautiful and bountiful state in the union. Our granddaughter has joined us on our annual ride on the Hiawatha Bike trail since she was five years old.

Having raised our children, with one daughter and granddaughter making their home close by in Latah County I have time to reflect and enjoy life. One of my passions has been real estate. Buying and selling many properties before we chose our forever home in Idaho, I continued my passion for real estate by purchasing and selling over 13 properties in Latah County. I have a keen sense of what is involved in first deciding to purchase a property and what is involved in selling your home.

My family and I have had to relocate numerous times and I have experienced the emotion and stress that sometimes accompany moving your family. Finding a place that feels like home and negotiating the purchase of that home is something I have worked through many times.

I have been blessed to live and work in our unique community and have had the opportunity to volunteer in our local schools, have adopted several fur babies from our local shelters and worship with awesome folks at our local church.
