quotation

What a wonderful introduction to our week in Paris! Richard was the perfect guide on our tour through the Montmartre area, showing us interesting places not frequented by many tourists. It was only our family on the tour, so the children received individual instruction on the manual settings of their cameras. This made a huge impact on their photos for the duration of our holiday. Well worth the money." – 5-Star Review

Photograph Paris by Night

Paris Photography Night Tour

Shooting at nighttime requires a little different knowledge than shooting during the day. But, that's when Paris is at its best. And that's why we think this activity is a great idea.

The 3-hour private tour takes you to many of the iconic sites when the monuments and buildings are all lit up for night viewing… and night shooting. To capture the best images your expert photo guide will tach you about night photography, including long exposures and capturing the streaking light of passing cars. Available most days. Departure time changes with the seasons so you can capture Paris when its dark.

Absolutely loved my night photography tour. It started with the sun setting at the Louvre and moved on to Joan of Arc and then the Eiffel Tower. I had never done any night photography, but Alexander brought along the tripod and was just brilliant at explaining how I should get the best out of my camera to get some totally memorably images. And I saw parts of Paris at night that I would never have experienced. Go for it, brilliant!" – 5-Star Review

NEXT PARIS PHOTO TOUR IN

Photo tour details.

This Paris Photo Tour , from December 3rd to 10th, 2022 , will allow you to photograph one of the most beautiful cities on Earth, for a whole week. Paris, also known as ‘The City of Light’ and ‘The City of Love’, is just the perfect destination if you like photography , specially for architecture and urban landscape photo lovers. During this Paris Photo Tour, we’ll have an impressive list of photo locations to discover , including top monuments, museums and remarkable buildings.

Paris is one of those magical destinations that all of us dream with, as well as a really emblematic city. The mixture of ancient and modern architecture , and the many touristic (and photographic) attractions, will make you love the city. We are sure you will not be disappointed with all the photo possibilities that Paris will bring you.

What to photograph during this Paris Photo Tour?

As we have already stated, this Paris Photo Tour will be focused on architecture and urban landscape photography .

First of all, we will focus on the most famous and beautiful spots in Paris , such as the Eiffel Tower , the Louvre Museum , the Arc de Triomphe , the Sacre Coeur , or Notre Dame (despite its terrible 2019 fire), to name just a few. But, at the same time, we will also photograph other not so famous places , including squares, viewpoints or skyscrapers, which will bring us great photo opportunities. Our photo guide , Sergio Lanza , has visited Paris more than 10 times , so he knows the city perfectly.

Although Paris is mainly recognized for its classical architecture and monuments , there is also incredible modern architecture to enjoy in the town. We will be able to prove this in our visit to La Defense , the business district by Paris. Dozens of skyscrapers , modern sculptures and vantage points , will allow us to get wonderful shots .

As we always do, we are going to pay special attention to sunrises and sunsets . Given that these are the best moments of lights everyday, we have prepared each of these special moments at the best locations. By other hand, we will also focus on blue hour , that magical moment when the sky keeps getting blueish, as the city lights are on. That will be a perfect moment to practice long exposure photography . We’ll be able to get movement in the clouds, or to capture beautiful light trails from the moving cars.

However, we’ll keep exploring this beautiful city during all the day, with a long list of places to cover. We’ll have plenty of chances to photograph the magical City of Lights , so you can get hundreds of great pictures.

Why doing this Paris Photo Tour during this time of the year?

We decided to set this Paris Photo Tour on this dates, because it’s one of the best times of the year to visit the city . By one hand, we are close to Christmas, and that means that we’ll be able to capture the beautiful Parisian Christmas lights , specially at places like the Champs Elysees Avenue. Then, statistically, we have got nice results in previous trips during this time of the year. Colder temperatures usually mean softer colors in the sky and, good chances for colorful skies when we get some clouds .

Finally, some of the sessions we have prepared include the sun rising or setting in a particular position , making this period the only possible time of the year to get the shoot.

Even though there are more chances of rain during this season, we can benefit from that for our sessions. Once it stops, the rain bring us lots of places to get perfect reflections of our subjects. We have got really beautiful compositions in previous trips, just searching for reflections of Paris’ most impressive locations.

Who is this Paris Photo Tour for?

This Paris Photo Tour is suitable for all physical conditions , ages and photography levels . First of all, this can be considered an easy trip, with no complicated hikes or requirements. All the places we will photograph are in town, so we will just need to walk to the locations, or take the Metro. Just take into account that, give the Covid-19 situation, we will try to avoid the Metro as much as possible. Therefore, we will try to walk to get to our locations, always we can do it.

Equally, there is not an age limit , anyone can join the trip as long as he or she is reasonably well.

Finally, there is not a minimal photography level required to participate . No matter if you are a beginner or a professional, our photographers will bring you personalized attention , adjusted to your needs, in order to help you capturing the best images of Japan. Our mission is trying to help you getting outstanding images during this photo tour.

To sum up, what we offer is an intense week of photography in Paris . A very complete photo tour, with plenty of great photo opportunities, in which you’ll get fantastic shots while you learn or improve your photography.

During a full week, we’ll explore all the hot spots in Paris , searching for the best images. All of these, with the organization of our own official travel agency for photography lovers , and guided by professional photographers with plenty of experience in the destination.

Given this, we are totally sure that you’ll love this Paris Photo Tour . Do not miss this great chance to photograph this magical city, and book your spot now . Seats are limited to 12 participants!

What to expect from this Paris Photo Tour?

  • Photographing the most beautiful monuments and buildings in Paris
  • Discovering amazing panoramic view of the town from different spots
  • Practicing long exposure photography by blue hour, capturing movement in the clouds and the traffic light trails
  • Understanding and learning the importance of using neutral density filters in photography
  • Capturing the contrasts between Paris old architecture and the modern one
  • Getting tips, ideas and instruction for composition, as well as learning different photography techniques

Our Paris Photo Tour will begin with the meeting of the group at our hotel , by early afternoon. From this very first moment, we’ll go out in search of the first images from the tour. For this session, we’ll visit the Ile de la Cité area , photographing some of its beautiful buildings.

We’ll stay in this area for the rest of the day, capturing the sunset in one of these bridges. As soon as the sun is gone, we’ll see how the city lights are on, and we’ll wait to capture the blue hour too.

Afterwards, we’ll get to our hotel to rest.

Today, we will wake up early to visit the Trocadero gardens for sunrise . From here, we’ll have the impressive view of the Eiffel Tower just in front of us , as the sun is rising in the background , behind it.

After breakfast, we’ll walk to the Champs Elysees , the most famous avenue in Paris. We’ll walk around the area, before visiting the interior of a fabulous library . Once here, we’ll get beautiful compositions of the building, regardless how the weather is.

Next, we’ll visit the famous Opera Garnier , one of Paris’ most spectacular buildings. Apart from photographing the building from the outside , we’ll get inside , to capture its fabulous interior. Certainly, it will be a very fruitful visit.

After having lunch, we’ll move to the nearby Louvre area . For many, this is the most important museum on Earth. Its interior includes one of the largest and most impressive art collections around the world . Among them, we could highlight the extraordinary Gioconda (also known as Mona Lisa), the Venus de Milo or Michaelangelo’s Dying Slave , just to name a few. But, besides this, the Palace where the museum is located , is one of the top Paris jewels. We’ll photograph sunset from this location , with the impressive Louvre Pyramid in front of us . Again, some minutes after the sun is gone, it’s time for blue hour images . Therefore, we’ll keep at the same location, to capture spectacular images during that magical time.

Before getting back to our hotel, we may return to the Opera Garnier, in order to get a few night shots of the beautiful building.

viaje fotografico Paris

Again, we’ll wake up early to photograph the Ile de la Cité area by sunrise . We will be exploring the many photogenic views that we’ll find in the neighborhood. Again, the lovely bridges located here will bring countless photo opportunities.

After sunrise, we’ll visit the nearby Sainte Chapelle , one of the most beautiful churches in the city. This Gothic Temple, is among Paris’ most famous locations. This time, we’ll specially focus on its interior , capturing its marvelous stained glass windows .

Then, we’ll visit the stunning Notre Dame Cathedral , which suffered a tragical fire on April the 15th, 2019. Although there won’t be many photo opportunities, due to the works that will take place there during years, to recover its original state, we could not leave the area without visiting Notre Dame for a short time.

We will continue our journey visiting the Place des Vosges , before getting to Montmartre . This is probably the most picturesque district in the city, with its bohemian ambient. We’ll photograph the little streets and the famous painters in the area before getting to our sunset location , the Sacré Coeur Basilica . Again, this is one of the most spectacular churches in Paris, and will bring us fabulous chances for sunset and blue hour photography.

Finally, we’ll come back to our hotel to rest after a long photo day.

Today we’ll take the Metro to get to our sunrise location , La Defense , the business area West to Paris. Once in the area, we will get to the huge Arc de la Defense , its most remarkable building. Getting the first rays of daylight as they illuminate this and the other gorgeous skyscrapers in the area, will allow us to get fabulous shots .

Following this, we’ll stay all the morning in the district , exploring its unique buildings, squares and monuments. We’ll also practice long exposure techniques during this visit, getting really interesting effects if the sky is cloudy. The neighborhood has countless opportunities, and we’ll try to enjoy the best spots during our exploration.

After lunch, we’ll take the Metro back to the downtown, visiting the Rive Gauche area . Same as in the whole city, we’ll find many photogenic locations here. First of all, we will capture the majestic Les Invalides building, one of Paris most important monuments. We’ll continue to the Luxembourg Gardens , with the same named Palace, with many possibilities from a photographic point of view. Then we’ll end up by the nearby Pantheon , other of Paris’ most valuable treasures.

For sunset , we’ll get to the top of the Montparnasse Tower . From this spot, we’ll certainly enjoy one of the most awaited sessions of the whole tour, with incredible views of Paris . This view, for many the best one in all the city, will allow us to capture the sunset over Paris , as well as a great blue hour and night session . Specially, we would like to highlight the extraordinary view of the Eiffel Tower . Being able to capture its night illumination from here, is something truly unforgettable.

Once our session has finished, we will return to our hotel.

louvre viaje fotografico Paris

We will get back again to the Louvre area for sunrise , so we can capture it under different light conditions this time. This way, we’ll have new chances to photograph the Louvre Pyramid with the beautiful palace in the background. We’ll move from here to the Banks of the Seine , to capture the Pont des Arts under the golden light.

Our next stop will be the Place de la Concorde, maybe the most photogenic square in the city. We’ll pass some time photographing its precious fountains , before walking to the nearby Tulleries Gardens .

Then, we’ll get to the Orsay Museum , located in an old railway station. This is another of the most famous museums all around the world and, although we could spend a whole day visiting it, we’ll have to reduce our visit to a couple of hours.

From here, we will move to the Francois Mitterrand Library . This modern style construction, is composed by four large buildings, which look like open books when seen from above. Surely, a new chance to get really original shots.

We will give some free time after lunch , so you can go shopping some souvenirs, clothes or even jewels by the Champs Elysees and nearby avenues. Afterwards, we’ll visit the top of the Arc de Triomphe , from where we’ll photograph the sunset over Paris. This extraordinary lookout will bring us 360 degrees views of the city , including the Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower, the Sacré Coeur or La Defense.

We’ll get down after our session and head to our accommodation.

viaje fotografico Paris

For today’s sunrise , we’ll get again to the Eiffel Tower . However, this time we’ll place at a different location, photographing the iconic location from the Champs de Mars . Now, the sun will be illuminating the tower as it rises, so we’ll get beautiful golden tones over its structure. Following this, we will get to the top of the tower , to enjoy the amazing views of the city from the second and third floor viewpoints.

We’ll spend the whole morning in the tower, and will continue or visit heading to the Grand and Petit Palais , precious buildings which look particularly beautiful from the left banks of the Seine. Then, we’ll take the Metro to Les Halles area , where we’ll capture the beautiful Saint Sulpice church .

For sunset , we will visit the iconic Galleries Lafayette mall. Apart from photographing its huge Christmas tree , the most famous in Paris each year, we’ll get out to its panoramic terrace . This is the place where we’ll stay for sunset and blue hour .

Once the night has arrived, we will get to our hotel.

viaje fotografico Paris

This will be our last full day in Paris . Therefore, we’ll make the most of it from the beginning! For sunrise , we’ll visit the Alexandre III bridge , maybe the most photogenic one in town. After our session, we’ll go for a photo walk by the Seine River , capturing different bridges and views of the city.

Afterwards, we’ll visit the Pere Lachaise cemetery . Undoubtedly, a very different visit, but also interesting from a photographic point of view. Be sure that we’ll have many compositions and great images to capture here. Then, next stop will be La Bastille , as we get back to the downtown.

After lunch, we will visit the Rodin Museum . This will be the last museum we’ll visit during the trip, and will bring us the opportunity of photographing the famous ‘Thinker’ sculpture .

For our last sunset in Paris , we’ll get back to the Trocadero Gardens , from where we’ll be able to s hoot the mythical image of the Eiffel Tower at blue hour and at night . Certainly, a fabulous end for a great photo tour. After the session, we’ll get to our hotel to sleep.

Today, we’ll wake up early to have breakfast together, after which the tour will come to its end.

General Considerations

This Paris Photo Tour is organized by the Official Travel Agency ‘Viajes Fotográficos – Dream Photo Expeditions’ ( hereinafter referred to as ‘the travel agency’).

The travel agency carefully studies and designs all the trips that we offer, always trying to adapt them to our travelers needs. All our itineraries and activities are chosen from a photographic point of view. However, the itinerary shown here is just an idea of some of the places that we will be visiting, not being contractual information about what we’ll do during the trip. The tour leaders, photo guides, other guides and/or the travel agency and organizers of the tour, reserve always the right to do any kind of changes to the itinerary and the tour, both before and during the trip.

In this sense, it will be up to the photographer/s guide/s or to the travel agency, the decision of changing any of the programmed activities, places to visit, and shooting sessions for each day, depending on factors as weather, security or light conditions, but not limited to these. We will always be in search of the best possible experiences and moments of light for the customers of this trip. However, sometimes we may decide to change plans depending on some factors. The program may also be changed in case of emergency, injury of illness of any of the participants or main photographers.

At the same time, both the photographers and the travel agency reserves the right of changing the tour leader/s, in case it’s necessary. Some of the reasons might include injuries, illness or hospitalization, severe health problems, accidents, (both of themselves as well as first grade relatives too), etc. In those cases, the agency will bring another photographer able to guide the group in the same destination.

Documentation

Each traveler is responsible of having all the documentation needed for the trip, as well as for entering the destination/s. To visit France, you need a valid Passport and might need a visa or an electronic travel authorization to enter the country. Always check the requirements with your country authorities before traveling to a foreign destination. The photographers and the travel agency have no responsibility about each traveler’s documentation, or about the requirements to be allowed to enter in France or any other country.

Travel Insurance

This Paris Photo Tour includes a basic assistance insurance. However, we strongly recommend you to bring a full travel insurance, which has unlimited or high limit money coverages in case of accident or disease.

Personal Counseling

The travel agency will give personal counseling and advice to travelers when purchasing their trip. Customers will receive a list with everything that they might need for the route, tips about how to prepare a medical kit for the travel, recommendations about the photography gear for the place, etc… At the same time, our staff will be happy to help and solve any doubt that the clients could have while they are preparing their trip.

Responsability

We are completely sure that this Paris Photo Tour will be an unforgettable experience for travelers, as well as an intensive learning process. The travel agency will always try to promote values such as respect (cultural, social and environmental). Those values will always prevail in all our trips. At the same time, ‘Dream Photo Expeditions’ will always ensure that the impact of their trips is never negative for the country, their citizens or their wildlife.

The travel agency, tour leaders, guides, or the photographers hosting the trip, will have no responsibility at all for any accident, loss, theft or damage suffered by the customers participating on it.

Each customer declares that he or she accepts all the conditions on this trip at the time he or she is doing a reservation request and/or payment for it.

At the moment of booking, the client will be required to send an initial payment of US$600 (US$863 if choosing single room). RECOMMENDED PHOTO GEAR

We recommend you to bring a DSLR or Mirrorless system camera with interchangeable lenses, but you can join the photo tour bringing any kind of camera, including compact ones, or even a smartphone.

Wide Angle Lens

A wide angle lens will be really useful to capture to photograph many of the nicest monuments and buildings in Paris. It’s also interesting that it’s a fast lens (f/2’8 or faster), for interiors.

Standard Zoom

An standard zoom, like a 24-70mm, or a 24-105mm, will be probably the most important lens for a trip like this. With that focal length range, you will be able to capture a great variety of the scenes we’ll find.

A tripod will be needed for our low light photography sessions, such as the sunrise, sunset and night photography ones. We recommend you bringing a really sturdy one, so it’s not easily moved by the wind.

PHOTOGRAPHY FILTERS

We recommend you bringing ND filters for long exposure photography, as well as graduated ND filter for sunrises and sunsets. A polarizer filter will be very useful too, to add saturation or avoid reflections.

REMOTE CONTROLLER

Bringing a remote or an intervalometer will be a great idea, because they will be very useful in low light sessions, avoiding the need to touch the camera, and therefore minimizing the risk of moved images.

PRactical Information

Is there a minimal physical level to join this trip.

This Paris Photo Tour is recommended for any person, no matter the age or the physical level to join the trip. You should only be able to walk around two or three hours each day. We will be walking to many of our locations during the trip, and using the Metro to get to others. However, this is considered an easy trip.

At the same time, there isn’t age limits for the tour, as well as your health and conditions are reasonably good.

Do I need a minimal photography level to join the trip?

There is no need of a minimal photography level to join this Paris Photo Tour. You don’t need to be a professional photographer to come to this trip, nor even having a lot of experience with your camera. All our photo tours are open to all levels, even for beginners, or unexperienced photography users. Sometimes, we even have people just taking shots with their smartphones.

One of our highlights is providing customized attention, so we will help you to get the best possible images, regardless your previous level. We’ll be there to help you becoming a better photographer!

What kind of weather can I expect during this trip?

During this Paris Photo Tour, we can expect low to cold temperatures most of the time, but easy to deal with if we are prepared correctly. Average temperatures during this period are normally around 36º to 50º Fahrenheit  (2º to 10º Celsius). Sunrise and nights will be the times when temperatures will be lower.

Therefore, we need to be dressed properly. You should bring a warm down jacket or parka, to be safe from the cold. At the same time, a Gore Tex jacket or similar could be also useful, in case of rain. Once you confirm your booking, you will also receive a guide withe the recommended gear list for this Paris Photo Tour.

Are meals included on this trip?

This Paris Photo Tour, as most of our trips, doesn’t include meals (breakfast, lunch or dinner). This will give us maximum flexibility during the trip, in order to focus mainly in the most important thing: photography. Normally, we will be having breakfast in the hotel or in cafes near the area, before or after our sunrise shooting session (depending on timing). For lunch and dinner, we will be visiting some of the many restaurants in the city.

Anyway, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the great French cuisine in the Parisian bistros and restaurants.

Which payment options do you offer?

Currently, the main payment option we have is the bank transfer. However, if you prefer it, we also have other payment options, such as credit or debit card, PayPal or Transferwise. Please notice that these other payment options may apply a commission fee. You can ask us about these different payment options.

If you choose to pay by credit or debit card, or by PayPal, you can process your payment online, when you finish the booking process. For bank transfer payment, you just have to proceed with the booking and then, once you finish the process with the chosen payment method, you’ll receive an email with al the instructions and bank details.

What kind of accommodations will we have?

During this Iceland Photo Tour, we’ll be good quality 3 or 4 star hotels. Each traveller will be staying in a double twin shared room, shared with another participant of the tour. Rooms will always include a private bath.

If you come with another person to the trip, you’ll share the same room. However, if you are traveling alone, we’ll choose a roommate for you between the other participants in the trip (always same genre). Anyway, you will also have the chance to choose a single room for you, paying an extra supplement. Contact us for all details.

Can I join this photo tour regardless my country of residence?

Anyone can join this Paris Photo Tour, no matter your country of residence. Our main travel agency is settled in Santander, Spain, but our trips are open to customers from countries all around the world. Therefore, we may have clients from different places in our photo tours.

This Paris Photo Tour will begin meeting up at our Parisian hotel. Therefore, all the participants need to get there for the first day of the tour, traveling from their country of residence, and there is no need to travel to a particular town to fly together to France.

What else should I bring to the tour?

Once you have confirmed your booking for this Paris Photo Tour, we will send you the trip info with a recommended gear PDF guide. This will include suggestions not only about the photography gear, but also about the clothes and accessories you might need during this photo tour. To sum up, you won’t have to worry about anything, since our expert photo leaders and guides will inform you about everything you will need, so you can enjoy your travel as much as possible!

As a first tip, we would suggest you bringing a light color down or shell jacket(for example red, orange, yellow, light green, etc…). That jacket will protect you from the cold and the rain but, at the same time, you’ll look great when photographed in front of the Eiffel Tower of the Louvre Museum!

‘I went on a photo tour with Sergio last December 2016 to Paris. From the get-go, Sergio and his team were very accommodating and answered all my questions and helped me out with the travel details. It was my first time in Paris and even if I was the only lady in the group, I didn’t feel excluded nor out of place. I learned a lot as well and got into places I would never dream of going into alone. This photo tour has given me not just an amazing experience but good friends as well. Definitely would join another tour again!’

Miguel Ángel Mateos

‘The Paris photo tour was an unforgettable experience, high above my initial expectations, both from the touristic and the photographic point of view, since I had not visited the city previously. A great organization, together with the tips and help from Sergio Lanza all the time, as our photographer guide, made this trip a perfect combination between holidays and a photography-enjoying experience. All this, in a city which is inspiring at every corner, both if you like the old and classic Paris, or the new and modern one’

A Photographer’s Guide to Paris

Where to take beautiful pictures in paris.

Paris evokes a feeling of wonder. Avenues exude French character; monuments portray elegance with gothic architecture, not to mention the Parisian rooftops, cafes and gardens.

Photographing Paris is definitely a journey through time and you’ll want to visit famous icons and unique locations to secure the best view possible of this incredible city.

What started out as my top five locations soon developed into more of a guide to the incredible sights and hidden gems you can photograph around the French capital. It’s definitely too hard to narrow this list down any further so be sure to give yourself a few days to explore all that this beautiful city has to offer.

Below you will find a list of the best photography locations in Paris alongside a collection of images I’ve personally taken at each one.

** Paris Photography Location Map: Scroll to the bottom of this guide for a Google Map with a suggested walking route + all Paris photography locations mapped out for your next visit to this gorgeous city. There’s also a handy little section with links to other photogenic regions in France!

eBook Announcement – If you want to skip the ads and download a Paris eBook for photographers straight to your device, I’ve just released my brand new ‘Paris Photography Location Guide’, it’s big, beautiful and filled with over 65+ photography locations, 75 pages, custom maps and self-guided walking tours to follow in my footsteps.

D’accord, allons-y (ok, let’s go!)

Paris photography locations:, #1 basilique du sacré-coeur – panoramic views + sunset.

Overlooking the entire city, the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur offers what is in my opinion, the best view in Paris. Few people realise you can access the top of the dome so at sunset you’ll be sharing with only a handful of visitors who dared to take on the 300 stair climb. The peak of the dome has a narrow walkway that gives you 360degree views, an incredible scene to witness as the sun sets over Paris. Be sure to check closing times before you start the climb as they vary from month to month and sometimes even day to day. View the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur site with further visitor information here .

Paris Photo Tip –

In summer the sun doesn’t set until late in the evening, offering the chance to wander the streets and soak up the beautiful golden light. Plan a route to follow or simply wander back from Montmartre and get wonderfully lost along the way. Read more about tips for photographing in sunset and golden hour her e.

The path around the dome with lots of photo windows to see and capture the city from.

#2 Saint-Michel + The Latin Quarter – Street Scenes + Cafes

For quaint cobbled streets lined with cafes and restaurants that ooze charm, this is the place to wander. You’ll find this area just over the river to the south of Notre Dame. Roam along Rue de la Bûcherie and Rue Saint- Séverin for photographs of traditional Crêperies and street scenes.

Wander from the banks of the Seine towards Tour Montparnasse to pass by a lot of the highlights of Saint-Germain-des-Pres and Left Bank. Read more about my adventures photographing the Left Bank of Paris here .

Left Bank Paris Photographs from the Seine to Tour Montparnasse

#3 Montmartre – Artisans + French Character

One of the best places to take pictures in Paris and home to resident creatives and street artists, Montemartre is the epitome of French character. At first glance it might seem like a tourist frenzy but if you venture away from the Place du Tertre (artist square) you’ll find a village like atmosphere with a unique ambience unlike anywhere else in Paris. Have a peek at the cute pink restaurant ‘La Maison Rose’ and the draping vines along Abreuvoir Street then head down to the windmill of Moulin de la Galette on the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Girardon.

Visiting Montmartre in the early afternoon gives you plenty of time to wander the streets and then enjoy the changing atmosphere as evening approaches. Street photography opportunities are great around lunch time then again once the crowds start appearing for dinner.

#4 Notre Dame Cathedral – Low light interiors and panoramic city views

*Update – Due to the fire inside Notre Dame in April 2019, it’s not possible to currently access this beauty from the inside. You can however still see and photograph Notre Dame from various spots alongside the banks of the Seine River.

One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, Notre Dame is an essential photo stop in Paris, even if you can’t venture inside. Take advantage of glowing morning light along the Seine and head straight for Pont Saint-Michele where you’ll have a beautiful vantage point toward Notre Dame. The roof and spire at the back of Notre Dame were damaged the most in the fire, however the front towers are still as they were, albeit with a little more scaffolding.

I’ll also mention my description from prior to the fire as I loved visiting Notre Dame and hope that one day, if you haven’t already, you’ll be able to go inside too. The interior is dimly lit offering shadowed arches, intricate detailing and patterned flooring. If you arrive early enough in the day (before 10am) you’ll avoid lengthy queues to climb to the top of the cathedral…an absolute must for a fabulous view! Climbing the narrow staircase to the top is an experience in itself then once you arrive to the open air walkway circling the tower you’ll be greeted with views along the Seine River all the way to the Eiffel Tower. My favourite angle was looking down upon the Parisian rooftops where the Gargoyles sit, such a unique way to view the city! Be warned however it’s very popular and can feel a little rushed due to groups being ushered through to avoid congestion.

Notre Dame 2022 - Image by Google

Updated image by Google – A current view of the construction at Notre Dame. It’s best to photograph from Pont Saint-Michel for the time being to capture the front facades, compose your image to exclude the cranes/scaffolding and instead photograph Notre Dame with the Seine in the foreground. *Unless you like to document the construction, in which case you’ll find many angles to do this from!

#5 Eiffel Tower – Iconic Scenes + Photo Locations

I’m pretty sure that if you’re going to Paris you want at least one shot of the magical Eiffel Tower, right? Well the great news is you’ll see this mighty icon popping up from different vantage points all over the city. The most popular spot is of course right underneath it or from the gardens of the Champ de Mars but if you’re looking for somewhere different here are a few options…

  • Printemps Department Store. Catch the elevator up to the rooftop café and enjoy views over the Parisian roof tops with the Eiffel Tower standing tall behind them.
  • Chaillot Hill and the Trocadéro. You definitely won’t be alone here but the view is hard to beat and you can use the Fontaine de Varsovie (Warsaw Fountain) as a great subject to compose your image against the Eiffel Tower.
  • The banks of the Seine. Stroll along the river banks to take some unique images of the Eiffel Tower framed with trees, as boats pass by or just a varied city scene from the norm.

Skip the Ticket Queues –   Secure your Eiffel Tower Tickets in advance here . If you’re planning to visit other attractions, purchase The Paris Pass prior to arriving, save up to 31% and map out all the museums and attractions you want to visit with the one ticket. Take a peek at the options here .

#6 The Louvre – History + Architecture

As a central landmark in Paris and one of the most inspirating Paris photography locations, the Louvre was originally built as a fortress in the 12 th century. Now the most visited museum in the world housing over 30,000 objects from history, you could spend all day here taking photos and that’s just the interior. Outside are the perfectly landscaped spaces, The Carrousel Garden and The Tuileries. When the weather warms up you’ll find people sharing picnics and soaking up the sun in the gardens creating a great atmosphere! The Cour Carrée is another great photo location within the Louvre complex. This square courtyard was completed by King Louis XIV as part of the ‘Old Louvre’ and is perfect for composing linear angles.

Travel Tip – Purchase ‘Priority Entrance’ for The Louvre and skip the queue which can take up a lot of your day! You can opt to have a professional tour guide, audio guide or wander with your camera and browse at leisure, this ticket just means you save time.

#7 Jardin du Luxembourg –  Fountains + Gardens

A green oasis amongst the 6 th arrondissement of Paris, the Jardin du Luxembourg is known for tree lined promenades and chestnut groves. The perfect place to set yourself up for the day to capture lifestyle images and have a picnic at the same time! You’ll also find little sailing boats available for hire to float around in the fountain in front of the Palais du Luxembourg. Fontaine Medicis is nestled in a little corner and is well worth a peek too.

#8 Avenue des Champs-Élysées –  Evening Slow Motion Shots

Perhaps the most famous street in the world, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is bustling throughout the day with shoppers, tourists and locals visiting the stores and offices that reside here. The best time of day to photograph here would be in the evening once the stores have closed and the streets are a little emptier. You’ll find the beautiful Arc de Triomphe sitting pretty at the top of the street waiting to be photographed as the traffic lights glow below. In the middle of the road are pedestrian islands so you can stop and take slow motion shots without worrying about being hit by a car!

#9 The Paris Metro – Murals + Architecture

Underneath the streets of Paris you’ll find creative spaces and tunnels to photograph. Of course not every metro station is picturesque but some are little gems of creativity with murals, themed designs and art nouveau entrances. If you feel like training it around the city take a peek at Arts et Métiers, Saint-Michel, Varenne (Rodin Museum), Concorde (designed as a giant word puzzle), Abbesses and Cité stations.

#10 Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II

A flower markert on Ile de la Cite – A little oasis just near Notre Dame

Nestled in a quiet square one block away from Notre Dame is the tranquil Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II market of Paris, one of my favourite Paris photography locations. Here you’ll find what feels like a greenhouse of dreams with so many blooming florals in carefully arranged bunches, it’s hard to believe you’re right in the centre of the city. Little green market stalls link together to form a maze of all things gardening and decor, boy is it photogenic!

#11 Galeries Lafayette Haussmann

Other notable paris photography locations –.

Marché Mouffetard: A narrow street market described by Hemingway as ‘A Moveable Feast’. Colourful fresh food stalls and a vibrant atmosphere!

Place de la Concorde: A main thoroughfare for tourist buses and pedestrians, this is a great place to sit on the stone walls and watch the world go by. Located at the end of the The Tuileries Garden not far from the Louvre, it’s a giant public square decorated with fountains. Side note…you’ll also find THE best public toilet in Paris here at the entrance to the garden. I’m not even joking, you’ll thank me later!

Palace of Versailles: A 40minute train journey out of the city will take you to the Palace of Versailles, an extravagant royal chateau. Have a peek inside here .

Hotel de Ville: The town hall of Paris is home to the city’s administration offices however it’s exterior is far less boring. Looking more like a palace, the Hotel de Ville features a gorgeous Gothic roof and in winter it’s the backdrop to a giant ice skating rink…it looks beautiful lit up in the evening too!

Le Stade Roland Garros: Even if you’re not in town for the French Open in May, Roland Garros is a great day trip for tennis fans like me! You can get lucky and see a tournament or take a tour behind the scenes. Catch the Metro to Porte d’Auteuil and wander the lovely area and parks too!

St Etienne du Mont: An impressive Gothic church with unique details such as stone spiral staircases and giant stained glass window panels…light and airy.

Galeries Vivienne: A hidden little arcade off Rue Des Petits Champs filled with character.

Roland Garros…tennis fans get yourself here!

Where to Stay in Paris

When covering numerous Paris photography locations, there are of course thousands of hotels, apartments and boutique properties to choose between depending on which areas suit you best. For me, there’s one spot I love to stay when photographing Paris. Right near the Eiffel Tower. Not only because this iconic beauty is right outside the window, but because you’re close to the Seine and a short walk from some of the most beautiful areas in the city.

Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel – If you are looking for somewhere fabulous to stay in Paris that doesn’t break the budget BUT offers views of the Eiffel Tower from your room I’ve found just the place! The Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel is not only a funky and really comfortable hotel but it’s located one block from the Eiffel Tower! From your room you can watch as the tower sparkles before you drift off to sleep, only to wake and watch the sunrise glow behind the French icon. Because I only list places I’ve personally stayed, be sure to ask for room #1031, #1131 or #1211 for the best views of the Eiffel Tower! To check room rates visit – Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel

Start your walking tour in Saint-Michel then walk to all of the major sites of Paris, ending at the Luxembourg Gardens. This walk takes over 4hours without photo stops or going into museums etc, so I highly recommend breaking it up into a few days! If you are short on time, jump on the metro to zip between locations easily.

Now if you’re more into catching the metro or choosing which locations you want to see, here is a map to all of the photography locations listed below in this guide. You should be able to click open this map and add your own locations, or create a customised walking tour. Wow – I have seen a lot of photos of Paris, and these are among the most wanderlust inspiring. Thank you for the route, the tips, and most of all the beauty 🙂

Oh my gosh! Your photographs are simply stunning! I’m so inspired.

August 15, 2016 at 5:17 pm

I will going to Paris next month and planning to shoot the Eiffel Tower from afar. The Basiliquedu ‘3oo stairs up’ like you mentioned seems like a very good vantage point.

However, I’m a photographer who kinds of afraid of heights 🙂 When you mentioned narrow walkaway, does it mean the stairs are narrow from the beginning to the top or only from the dome area to the top?

Please advise. Thank you in advance 🙂

August 15, 2016 at 5:25 pm

Great to hear from you! Exciting news you’re visiting Paris soon. The Basilica is probably (in my opinion) one of the more fear of height friendly vantage points. It feels super secure at the top and there’s actually a walkway around the dome that has a thick stone/marble? barrier the entire way that’s about chest height so you never feel like you’re about to fall over the edge and always have something strong to hold onto. The staircase up is narrow and enclosed so if you’re a bit claustrophobic this would be the only issue 🙂 From memory there is one section about half way up where the staircase is on the exterior of the basilica but again, it has the stone barrier to hold onto. Have fun!! Tag your photos with #thewanderinglens if you use Instagram so I can have a look 🙂

Is there any chance you can share this map via google? This is an excellant resource and would like to add some items to this.

I have used your map during my vists to my office and would like to build on it.

January 25, 2017 at 4:42 am

Hi Robert, I’m glad the map is of use for your time in Paris! The map should open up in Google when you click ‘view larger’? I’ve just added a second map that simply lists all of the locations noted in the guide, rather than a set walking path. The direct link to the Google map is https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ln1f9rlgO5l93XL-KnTlk7Qx1QM&usp=sharing hopefully you are able to open this up, add your own places and use the directions tab. Access is set to public so hopefully it works 🙂

April 24, 2017 at 12:52 pm

Great guide Lisa!

By far the most popular place to take photos of the Eiffel Tower is from Trocadero (on the lines 6 or 9). But beware that not all hours of the day or all spots here are good to take photos with the Eiffel Tower, because you will often get a lot of people in the background or even walking in front of your photos.

Also, if you take photos just on the lookout platform, you will probably get a shot where the person is dark and the Eiffel Tower in the background is super bright.

I found this to post to give you the best time and exact spots at Trocadero for pictures of the Eiffel Tower: http://www.ofleatherandlace.com/best-time-and-spots-to-take-photos-with-eiffel-tower-from-trocadero/

April 26, 2017 at 9:28 pm

Thanks for sharing Tina! Yes Trocadero is the most popular but like you’ve mentioned, it can get a bit overwhelming with the crowds and to be honest isn’t my favourite place. I must prefer the view from further afar where the Eiffel Tower looks all moody in the late afternoon haze. That said, any view of the Eiffel Tower is a good view and it’s absolutely worth testing them all 😉

I love how warm your photos are! they make me SO nostalgic for Paris one of my favourite cities in the world. I’ve been a few times in the summer/winter, but never in Spring so that’s next on my list. I wouldn’t be able to resist those incredible blooms. Amazing post!

Thanks so much Christina! Spring is such a gorgeous time to visit Paris, even better if you’ve been before because you can dedicate all your time to simply wandering and chasing blossoms!

June 23, 2017 at 5:17 am

Canal St Martin is in my opinion the most beautiful and photogenic part of Paris! There is a wonderful film that captures that beauty, it is called ‘Amelie’ (my daughter is named after her).

March 6, 2018 at 11:13 am

Oh what a wonderful tribute! I love the movie Amelie also, and it’s a beautiful name 🙂

I’m going to Paris soon and would like to download the “map: Paris Photo Walk” how do I do that? Photos are great! Thanks.

Hi Marshall, if you’re reading the article on your phone you should be able to open the map and it switches to Google maps so it’s accessible for you.

May 23, 2018 at 9:07 am

Excellent! Heading to London, Paris, Cologne and Zurich next months with my 4 kids. I’m mapping out walking trips. You had some points that weren’t on my map already. Thank you!

So, I’m second guessing carrying around thousands of dollars worth of camera gear but I know I’ll be upset if I didn’t. What gear did you take? What precautions did you take?

June 2, 2018 at 5:33 pm

That’s so great to hear! I hope you have a wonderful trip 🙂 it’s a beautiful time of year to visit Europe! I always have my gear with me and it’s just a matter of being wary and keeping it close, I’ve never had any issues with theft. If you’re feeling a bit funny about it, wear your backpack on the front so it can’t be unzipped from behind. Also sometimes when I travel alone I carry a camera handbag, it’s big enough to fit my camera + lens but doesn’t look like it’s got expensive gear inside!

Hi, Lisa. I´ve been checking your blog and really liked your pictures. I was checking the ones from the Sacre Coeur Dome and wanted to ask you how did you get to take them. I looked at the opening hours during the whole year, and I can see it is never open at sunrise. Do you have to ask for special permission or any type of authorization? Thanks in advance!

March 18, 2019 at 12:16 pm

Hi Martin, lovely to hear you’ve been enjoying my website! The images captured from the top of the Sacre Coeur were taken at sunset and at certain times of the year you’ll find the opening hours actually coincide with sunset. It’s best to head up to the top about an hour or more before sunset to capture the golden hour (which is what you see in my images), the stairwell closes roughly 30minutes before closing but always check this beforehand as times do change regularly!

The aim of our Paris Photo Tours is to help you bring back unique photos of your trip to Paris!

Some of our tours

Photo shoots in paris, latest news, superb lights in paris.

In France, the Spring of 2013 has been quite dreary: lots of rain and chilly temperatures far below the average. Howevever, sometimes you have nice surprises when the sun manages to peek from underneath the layers of clouds. On that day, the light was perfect in the Louvre courtyard as it is U shaped and turned towards the sunset. There was even a rainbow over the main building.

Love padlocks in danger

Love padlocks are a recent tradition in Paris. They can be found mainly on the Archevêché bridge and the bridge of Arts. They make a colorful and emotional subject for photographers.

They are generally pictured on-site, but according to this interview (in French), photographer Gilles Ouaki has a totally different approach.

He cuts the most interesting padlocks from the bridge of Arts to bring them in his studio and takes pictures of the broken padlocks there.

A quite selfish approach, if you're asking me.
