Las Vegas Rail Bike Tours: Boulder City to Railroad Pass

Rail Explorers Las Vegas

Las Vegas Rail Bike operation is temporarily suspended as it transitions to the Nevada Railroad Museum operating the rail bikes.

Las Vegas Rail Bike Tours offer pedal-powered cart excursions covering an eight-mile round trip from Boulder City’s train museum to Railroad Pass Casino. Thanks to the battery-powered pedal-assisted rail bikes available for the ride, the tour is a fun adventure that most age groups can enjoy. The rail bikes come in two- or four-passenger capacities, making them ideal for families and groups of friends looking to explore the area’s beautiful scenery.

Nevada Southern Railway Museum

Las Vegas Rail Bike Tours: What To Expect

Each tour consists of pedal-powered rail carts that accommodate 2 or 4 people. Before the tour begins, the participants are given instructions on how the cart operates and a safety check. One cart is sent off at a time, with a tour guide leading in the front and another guide following in the rear. To ensure safety, the rail carts are power-assisted, are limited to 10 mph, and require minimal rider effort.

Four seat rail bike

The rail carts follow the same tracks used during the Hoover Dam construction. As there is no need for steering, passengers can fully enjoy the scenic beauty of the desert. Please note that children under eight may not be able to reach the pedals, but they can still sit and enjoy the ride. It’s important to remember that the maximum weight for rail biker riders is 300 lbs. So, if you have been indulging in Las Vegas all-you-can-eat buffets, this ride might not be suitable for you.

Heading to Railroad Pass

Rail Tours Operating Hours

Tours depart on select days at 11:15 AM, 1:15 PM, and 5:15 PM. Guests should arrive at the starting point in Boulder City at least 30 minutes before departure time. We highly recommend making reservations in advance. The tour starts at the museum on the Las Vegas Strip and covers 4 miles through the desert until we reach the Railroad Pass Casino. After a 20-minute break at the desert oasis, the railbikes returned 4 miles to the museum’s starting point.

Rail Explorers Excursion

History of the Union Pacific Rail Line

In 1931, the Union Pacific built a rail line connecting their Las Vegas main line to Boulder City. They also constructed a branch that extended the line to the Boulder Dam site. Although the dam had been completed, the line was eventually abandoned. Nowadays, the right-of-way has been converted into a walking trail. In 1985, the Union Pacific Railroad gifted the Henderson-Boulder City segment to the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Today, Las Vegas Rail Bikes operates along a section of the Union Pacific Henderson to Boulder City line.

Boulder City Nevada, Railroad Museum

Las Vegas Rail Bike Tickets and Reservations

You can book tours online through the Las Vegas Rail Bike Tours website . The cost of the rides is per bike (2 or 4-seat bikes), and they last for 90 minutes. During the day, before or after your ride, you can stroll around the Nevada Southern Railway Museum and enjoy its beautiful displays. Address: Nevada State Railroad Museum Boulder City is at 601 Yucca Street Boulder City, Nevada.

Las Vegas Day Trip Ideas:

Good Springs Nevada

Good Springs Nevada Pioneer Saloon

Goodsprings is a small town that is mostly abandoned. However, the Pioneer Saloon, one of the oldest bars in Nevada, attracts visitors to the area. The saloon is believed to be haunted, but whether you believe that depends on how many cold beers you drink. Bikers are known to frequent the Pioneer Saloon, but everyone is welcome to visit Goodsprings and check it out for themselves. Visit Website .

Lost City Museum Overton Nevada

Lost City Museum Overton, Nevada

Overton’s Lost City Museum is about an hour from Las Vegas. The museum boasts a unique attraction: a replica of Anasazi Pueblo Grande de Nevada, which showcases how Las Vegas looked 2,000 years ago. Additionally, hundreds of baskets and artifacts on display were left behind by the native Indians who used to inhabit the valley. Visit website .

Nelson Ghost Town Eldorado Canyon

Nelson Ghost Town Las Vegas Day Trip

Nelson Ghost is situated in the center of Eldorado Canyon. Although not little remains of the town, it remains a popular destination for those interested in taking the Techatticup Mine Tour. The Techatticup Mine property grounds are adorned with countless mining artifacts and props used in various movies and videos. Additionally, the property is available to host weddings and events. When in Boulder City, take a ride on the Nevada Southern Railway. It is a short 35 minute ride in and out of town, but the scenery is incredible. Sit in the outside car of the weather is good. The staff have a lot of information about the area. Dave J.
A family member recently had a wedding here at this venue. Such a unique location for a wedding to be held and such a great experience. We even got to ride on the train with a bar car on board, a section for dessert and plenty of seating throughout. It’s was fun walking through the different train cars. Not to forget our conductor John, who is a gem! He and the other volunteer staff were an added bonus! Audra S.
I’m a local from Summerlin and today was my first time at the Nevada Southern Railway and I loved it the train ride was a lot of fun I will definitely be returning! Jonathan T.
This little railway museum was an awesome place to visit with the family.  It’s inexpensive and only a 30 min drive from the strip.  The train ride was inexpensive and they have a really cool rail explorers attraction I definitely want to try. Zurama H.
Have enjoyed many trips on the train with my grandkids and family. They read Christmas stories at the holidays & have a train robbery. Fun filled time every time. Becky E.
Wonderful getaway for the family only 30 minutes from the downtown.  Staff (Michelle, CJ) were so friendly and accommodating. Expect to spend about 90 minutes there. Bring refreshments and snacks after the peddle pusher and train back and don’t forget to ask for the locals deal! Even an Easter bunny for the little ones. Good times! Aubrey R.
This is a neat museum that shows a lot of southern Nevada’s history with trains! There are mail and rocket carrier trains and you can actually go on one of the working trains for a ride. It’s a lot of fun for a family day. Sierra M.
I brought my toddler here for a train ride on a Saturday morning. We did 10 am train ride. She had a blast. I would definitely recommend it…We saw a group of sheeps near the cliffs. We also got a chance to ride on the steamers. Marie B.

Find train tickets to Las Vegas

Find train tickets to Las Vegas

Top tips for finding las vegas train tickets.

  • Consider booking your train ticket in advance if you're looking to travel on a budget. You'll find that affordable train tickets to Las Vegas sell out fast since the route is a popular destination for travelers. We recommend that you purchase your train ticket early when tickets go on sale, with some rail carriers exhibiting early bird offers as far back as 11 months before your scheduled departure date.
  • When looking for a train to Las Vegas, it'll be wise to have the destination for your train in mind. Here, you have the freedom to book a train that'll place you outside the city or near downtown. Depending on the distance from the arrival train station to your intended destination, you might part with quite a bit of money, but the amount can be less if you choose the railway station to arrive at wisely.
  • Book through KAYAK and enjoy the convenience of selecting between nonstop and trains with scheduled stops. You'll find that nonstop trains are usually quicker but tend to charge more. If you choose a connecting train, you're likely to get lower fares for a train to Las Vegas. You may have alternatives of choosing between one-stop or two-stop train routes, with the latter taking up more travel time but exhibiting cheaper prices.
  • It'll be worthwhile to think about special needs access if you have a disability. Since there are gaps between the train station platform and trains, having an option that allows the smooth entry of wheelchairs aboard trains can be a welcome resource. When booking your ticket, you can request wheelchair assistance services beforehand that assist with getting you aboard. Such services can include the help of a staff member or station-provided resources like wheelchairs.
  • Las Vegas's most searched train station on KAYAK is Las Vegas Downtown. It is located 1 mile from the city center.

You'll also have the convenience of traveling when you want, as trains often have multiple daily services and various departure times and routes. With Amtrak, you get to take your kids along on your trip and save money while at it. One child aged between 2-12 and traveling with an adult qualifies for a 50% discount on a full adult fare.
