Everything You'll Want to Know About Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Concert Film

Swifties rejoice: you can finally relive the Eras Tour in your living room.

era tour intro

I am a die-hard Swiftie . Over the past decade of my life, I've analyzed her endless Easter eggs, had Taylor top my Spotify Wrapped for years, and you better believe I checked out the Eras Tour this summer. The concert was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I made and traded friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties and sang every word to every song while I was at the show. I even went to the Eras Tour concert film and relived every second of the extravaganza.

Swift's highly anticipated concert flick premiered in theaters earlier this fall, and it smashed records. CNBC  reported  that it's the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever, bringing in between $95 million and $97 million. Recently, Swift announced that the Eras Tour will be coming to living rooms, as the film has been released for rent on several on-demand services.

If you got snubbed in that Ticketmaster debacle , or if you just want to relive the magic that was the Eras Tour, I've got you covered with all the important information you'll want to know before attending from the comfort of your own home.

For more entertainment-related fare, here are  10 things you can do to save money on streaming , and here are the best smart TVs of 2023 .

What is the Eras Tour?

Swift's stadium tour swept through more than a dozen US cities plus Mexico City this summer. The Eras Tour is a love letter to her impressive musical career and the fans who have seen her through it. The numbers indicate the tour draws massive public appeal. The tour is projected to gross $1 billion , including Swift's overseas tour next spring.

That billion dollars is, by all accounts, a fantastic measure of Swift's power, but it doesn't even account for the thousands of fans who attended her concerts from parking lots and bridges outside of the concert venues this year. Already, Swift's journey around the US has proved an economic boon to host cities.

So, what is the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film?

Filmed over her Los Angeles dates at the SoFi stadium, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a two-hour, 45-minute chronicle of her hit tour. For fans who are familiar with the tour, this raises some questions as to what has been cut from the film. The concert I attended ran for about 3 hours, but by the end of the tour, it was about three and a half hours long. Curious fans finally have their answers.

The film had its premiere on Oct. 11, and we finally know what's been cut. Be warned, I'm going to get into some major spoilers for the concert film, so if you want to be surprised while you watch, just skip this section.

It looks like Swift has nixed five songs from the setlist she performed the nights she recorded the film. Entertainment Weekly reports that the songs No Body, No Crime; Long Live; Wildest Dreams; The Archer and Cardigan were all cut from the concert film. Fans of Long Live do have some recompense; it plays over tour bloopers and videos of fans during the credits.

Of the six surprise songs she recorded (Swift performs these during the rotating acoustic portion of the show), the songs Our Song and You're On Your Own, Kid ended up making the final cut. Fans can also expect to see shortened costume changes and transitions between Swift's different eras in the film.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in theaters?

Swift's concert film hit theaters worldwide on Oct. 13. According to Insider, the film had to be shown in theaters for four weeks following its release. Insider said Swift circumvented Hollywood studios and negotiated the film's distribution directly with AMC, allowing her to have more control. Time has reported that Swift's concert film has brought home an impressive $248.9 million at the box office, cementing itself as the highest-grossing concert film at the US box office. Given this accomplishment, it's safe to say the concert film will be hanging around theaters for a while.

How can I get Swift movie tickets?

You can buy tickets to the concert film where you would ordinarily buy tickets to most movies, either online or at an in-person box office.

Swift's website has links to sites where you can buy tickets through AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Fandango. You could check your local indie theater's website too, to see whether it's showing the concert film.

Fan reaction to ticket sales was swift (pardon the pun). Wanda Gierhart Fearing,  Cinemark 's chief marketing and content officer, told me that the company saw "frenzied traffic to [its] website and app the moment tickets went on sale" and that "we are ready for Swifties to be enchanted by this concert film in the unprecedented number of auditoriums we have booked to meet demand."

How much do tickets cost?

Adult tickets go for $19.89, which is a nod to the year of Swift's birth and the title of her fifth studio album, 1989. Fans also know that the album 1989 is about to get the Taylor's Version treatment, with the artist's rerecording of the album dropping 14 days after the film hits theaters. Seniors and children's tickets go for $13.13, a nod to Swift's lucky number.

Right now, it's unclear whether subscribers to paid theater subscriptions like Regal Unlimited will be able to use the deals available to them on tickets for this film, given the special pricing. In a FAQ on AMC's website, the company said that this film is excluded from the company's A-List program's reservation feature.

Cinemark confirmed to CNET that members of the Cinemark Movie Club can apply all standard benefits of the membership.

Can I treat this like a normal concert?

While a concert film can be exciting and almost feel like a real concert, it's best practice to be respectful of other theatergoers both in your showing and in other showings at the theater.

This doesn't mean you can't keep up with other Eras Tour practices, like wearing a fun costume based on Swift's songs and lyrics or making and trading friendship bracelets with other Swifties. You could even quietly sing along and dance in your seat, as long as you're considerate of viewers around you and don't interrupt others' viewing experience.

If you're attending the film at an AMC theater, then you're in luck. The company has provided you with guidelines for how to behave during the film -- and it all boils down to being respectful of those around you.

I saw the concert film at an indie theater, and in my experience, people were pretty quiet during the film. There was no singing loud enough for me to detect, and the only people who danced in my theater were several smaller children. Based on my experience, I recommend going in with the expectation of watching this film just like you would any other movie.

If you just have to sing and dance along to all of your favorite Taylor Swift hits (which I totally understand the urge to do) you do have some options. In a press release distributed to CNET, Cinemark announced Private Swiftie Parties -- an extension of its Private Watch Parties offering -- that allow fans to reserve an entire auditorium for singing and dancing. In the release, Fearing said "our larger-than-life screens and captivating surround sound deliver a most enchanting environment to sing and dance along with friends and family to the concert of the decade." Right now, these Private Swiftie Parties are on sale on Cinemark's website and app. The watch parties are available at participating locations for $800 and can accommodate up to 40 fans.

How can I watch the concert film at home?

This week, Swift announced that the Eras Tour concert film, extended version, will be available to rent on Dec. 13 (none other than the singer's birthday) on Apple TV, Vudu, Prime Video, Xfinity, Google Play and YouTube. Fans can expect some extra content from the extended version, with previously cut songs Wildest Dreams, The Archer and Long Live being added back in. Renting the concert film will set you back $19.89, and you'll be able to stream the film for 48 hours.

There's not an exact date on when we can expect the concert film on streaming services, although TV Line reports that Swift can't put her concert film on streaming platforms for 13 weeks after the film comes out. Jan. 12, 2024, would be the earliest possible date the film could wind up on a streaming service.

As a seasoned Swiftie, my recommendation is to keep a close eye on any hints Swift might give over the next few months for a streaming release date. Her well-known Easter eggs have given fans clues to album release dates and music video drops, so it's possible she'll use one to reveal the film's streaming debut.

We break down everything you need to know before you head to the biggest concert of the moment. By Dani Maher

era tour intro

TAYLOR SWIFT’S INFAMOUS Eras Tour is unprecedented in more than a few ways.

It’s a record breaker, smashing through past benchmarks to become the highest-grossing music tour to date and the first to surpass USD$1 billion in revenue. It has also ushered in a whole new level of dedication to concert dressing, with fans taking inspiration from the 10 ‘eras’ of Swift’s career that are highlighted throughout the three-hour concert. And not only that — it’s also unearthed a whole new approach to concert behaviour , with fans banding together on social media to successfully implement little trends and unspoken rules regarding chants and rituals that have been picked up by Swifties across the globe.

If you’re not sure about what we’re talking about, or you’ve only just heard word about so-called Eras rituals and chants, don’t panic — they’re pretty low-key (and fun!). Below, we’ve rounded them all up for you to memorise — in order and arranged by era, of course.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour chants and rituals in order

“cruel summer” bridge.

@taylorswiftvietnamfc Who loves #CruelSummer? #TaylorSwift #SwiftTok #TheErasTour #TSVNFC @Taylor Swift @Taylor Nation ♬ original sound – Taylor Swift Vietnam FC – Taylor Swift Vietnam FC

Chant: “I’m drunk in the back of the car / And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar (oh) / Said, ‘I’m fine,’ but it wasn’t true / I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you / And I snuck in through the garden gate / Every night that summer just to seal my fate (oh) / And I scream, ‘For whatever it’s worth / I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?’ / He looks up, grinning like a devil”

The “Cruel Summer” tradition is less of a call-and-response chant, more of a compulsory sing-a-long moment — so consider this your warning to study up on the lyrics. The song, which is the second in the setlist, has had a resurgence in past months (and again recently when Australian singer G Flip’s cover went viral ), with fans rediscovering a love for the iconic bridge. So when it comes along, at Swift’s command, be sure to scream it out.

“You Need To Calm Down” chant

@colorado.swiftie13 SHADE NEVER MADE ANYBODY LESS GAY!!! #denvertstheerastour #erastour #swifttok #swiftie #taylorswift #taylorsversion #TSTheErasTour #concert #lover #YNTCD #YOUNEEDTOCALMDOWN ♬ You Need To Calm Down – Taylor Swift

Lyrics: “You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace / And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate”

Chant: (with Taylor) “‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay”

In her Lover era, Swift released “You Need to Calm Down,” an anthem in support of queer Swifties — so when she sings this song in the opening era of the concert, fans are extra enthused. At the end of the second verse, audiences have taken to singing the final line along with Swift, extra loud: “‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay!”

Fearless era

“fearless” heart hands.

@lindsayylindss Thank you @Taylor Swift 🫶🏼 #taylorswifterastour #erastournashvillenight3 #erastour #fearless ♬ original sound – Lindsay Romney

Lyrics: “You pull me in and I’m a little more brave / It’s the first kiss, it’s flawless, really something, it’s fearless”

Response: [heart hands]

Back during her Fearless era in the late 2000s, Swift made a habit of putting her hands up in a heart shape at the end of the bridge. Now, nearly two decades later, Swifties honour that tradition by joining in with the singer, with the whole stadium raising up their heart hands ahead of the final chorus — following the lyrics above.

“You Belong With Me” double clap

@erastour_tx The evolution of the ICONIC You Belong With Me double clap 👏🏼👏🏼 from Fearless Tour – Reputation Tour 💚💛💜❤️💙🖤💗🤍🤎💙 #reputation #reputationtour #fyp #foryoupage #swiftie #swifties #reputationstadiumtour #reputationera #youbelongwithme #youbelongwithmetaylorswift #fearless #fearlesstaylorsversion #fearlesstour #fearlesstour2009 #fearlesstour #speaknow #speaknowtour #speaknowtour2011 #speaknowtaylorsversion #red #fearlesstv #redtv #redtaylorsversion #redtour #redtourtaylorswift #redtour2013 #1989 #1989taylorsversion #1989worldtour #1989era #taylorswiftlive #theerastour #erastour #taylorswifttour #taylorswiftconcert #taylorswiftyoubelongwithmedoubleclap #taylorswiftedit ♬ original sound – erastour_tx

Lyrics: “Oh, I remember you driving to my house / In the middle of the night / I’m the one who makes you laugh / When you know you’re ’bout to cry”

Response: [double clap on the beat]

Another tradition that has evolved from some of Swift’s earliest performances of one of her hit songs from 2009 album Fearless is the clap during the “You Belong With Me” bridge. After the lyrics “I’m the one who makes you laugh / When you know you’re ’bout to cry,” join in with the rest of the crowd with a quick double clap.

Evermore era

Phone lights for “marjorie”.

@grilledcheesier she’s so freaking cute omg #erastour #erastourtaylorswift #phillynight3 ♬ original sound – grilledcheesy

One of Swift’s most heartfelt songs from Evermore is “Marjorie,” which she wrote in honour of her late grandmother, who died when Swift was 13. Marjorie herself was a singer, and her operatic vocals feature in the background of the song when Swift sings: “And if I didn’t know better / I’d think you were singing to me now” in the outro. In a sweet tribute, fans collectively switch on their phone torches during the song, creating a sea of light for the singer to see — with Swift frequently tearing up at the gesture.

Reputation era

“delicate” intro.

@atmospheres_tampabay 1 2 3 lets go bitch! #taylorswift #erastourtampa #tsmidnightsts #delicatetaylorsversion #taylorswifttampa #erastourtampanightone ♬ original sound – Atmospheres of Tampa Bay 🦩

Lyrics: “We can’t make / Any promises now, can we, babe? / But you can make me a drink.”

Chant: “One, two, three, let’s go bitch!”

If there is any Eras chant you might have heard of, it’s probably this one. Between the introduction and first verse of Reputation ‘s “Delicate,” the crowd has adopted a chant that even Swift herself has come to encourage — one which was originated in 2018 by a then 15-year-old fan named Emily Valencia during the Reputation tour.

“Take us to church” during “Don’t Blame Me”

@angelfacemusic she just naturally has that effect on me. don’t blame me, taylor made me crazy 🤪 #theerastour #erastour #taylorswift #taylurking #taylornation #erastourglendale #glendaletstheerastour @taylorswift @taylornation ♬ original sound – angel♡

Lyrics: “Every time you’re, every time you’re lovin’ me”

Chant: “Take us to church, Taylor!”

Following the bridge and just before the breakdown of “Don’t Blame Me” from Reputation , one fan recorded themselves shouting “Take me to church, Taylor” — and since then, fans have adopted the chant worldwide.

Lyrics: “And your mother’s tellin’ stories ’bout you on the tee-ball team / You taught me ’bout your past, thinkin’ your future was me / And you were tossing me the car keys,”

Chant: “Fuck the patriarchy!”

Swift’s release of the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” was something of a cultural reset — and fans have been embracing the new lyrics on the Eras tour. In the third verse, they’ve taken to screaming one line particularly loud: “Fuck the patriarchy!”

“How’d that make you feel?” during “All Too Well (10 minute version)”

@laureno009 HOW’D THAT MAKE YOU FEEL #taylorswift #tampatstheerastour #theerastour @Taylor Swift ♬ original sound – Lauren

Lyrics: “You said if we had been closer in age, maybe it would’ve been fine”

Chant: “How’d that make you feel?”

Lyrics: “And that made me want to die”

There’s a second chant for “All Too Well” — it is 10 minutes long, after all. In the fourth verse, after Swift sings “You said if we had been closer in age, maybe it would’ve been fine,” fans yell, “How’d that make you feel?” before Swift continues, singing: “And that made me want to die”.

“What time is it?” during “Style”

@starbornn.reader THANK YOUUUUU! 🫶🏻 #taylorswift #taylorsversion #swifties #swiftietiktok #theerastour #erastouratlanta #atayl #taylornation #style #1989 ♬ Style – Taylor Swift

Chant: “Hey Taylor, what time is it?”

Lyrics: “Midnight / You come and pick me up, no headlights”

Another chant that originated with a fan shouting a question for Swift to “answer” with her lyrics comes in the 1989 era with “Style”. Just before Swift sings the first lines of the song, ask her the question: “Hey Taylor, what time is it?”

City name during “Blank Space”

@suburbanlegend13 taylor swift creates the famous “SYDNEY!” chant at the 1989 world tour, 2015. . . . . #TaylorSwift #BlankSpace #Sydney #SwiftTok #Fyp #Swiftie #1989TaylorsVersion #1989 #1989WorldTour ♬ original sound – SpotifySongs

Lyrics: “But I’ve got a blank space, baby / And I’ll write your name”

Chant: “[City name]”

This tradition will be particularly special during the Australian leg of the Eras tour, because it’s one that was popularised in Sydney back in 2015 on the 1989 world tour. Ahead of the bridge of “Blank Space,” Swift took to shouting the name of the city she was in as a chant, and the Sydney edition made it into the film of the tour. Be sure to sing your city’s name along with Swift — and get extra excited if you’re attending in Sydney.

Triple clap in “Shake It Off”

Lyrics: “But I keep cruisin’ / Can’t stop, won’t stop movin’ / It’s like I got this music in my mind / Sayin’, ‘It’s gonna be alright'”

Response: [Clap three times on the beat]

More clapping, if your hands aren’t already tired — following the pre-chorus, be sure to clap along three times to the beat leading up to the chorus of 1989 ‘s “Shake It Off”.

“Hey stop” in “Bad Blood”

@brilayfield hey @Taylor Swift THANK YOU from all of us on the floor for yelling at that security guard. he was a pain in the ass the entire night and the fact that this happened during #badblood made it even better 😆 PS show was PHENOMENAL 🫶🏻 Philly night 2 #taylorswift #theerastour #tswift #youneedtocalmdown #fyp #badbloodtaylorsversion ♬ original sound – Briana 💎 CRYSTALLIZED by Bri

Lyrics: “‘Cause, baby, now we got bad blood / You know it used to be mad love / So take a look what you’ve done / ‘Cause, baby, now we got bad blood”

Chant: “Hey stop!”

During a concert in Baltimore on the Eras Tour in May 2023, Swift accidentally started a new trend during “Bad Blood” after telling off a security guard who was allegedly hassling an excited fan. “She’s fine! She wasn’t doing anything. Hey, stop! Hey stop!” Swift sung throughout the chorus of the song. Naturally, fans have adopted the final “Hey stop!” at the end of the chorus as a new chant.

Lyrics: “Band-aids don’t fix bullet holes / You say sorry just for show / If you live like that, you live with ghosts”

Chant: “You forgive, you forget, but you never let it / go!”

There’s a second “Bad Blood” chant, which comes during the bridge and originates from the song’s remix, which famously featured Kendrick Lamar. Fans have taken to chanting a section of Lamar’s lyrics: “You forgive, you forget, but you never let it / Go!”

Midnights era

“taylor you’ll be fine” in “anti-hero”.

Lyrics: “Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism / Like some kind of congressman?”

Chant: “Taylor you’ll be fine”

Another chant that originates from a remixed version of one of Swift’s songs comes during “Anti-Hero”. In the Bleachers remix of the song, the band’s frontman Jack Antonoff (who has produced many of Swift’s albums, including Midnights ), responds to a line in the second pre-chorus by singing “Taylor you’ll be fine” — and now, fans have taken it upon themselves to sing the line to Swift at the same point during the song.

“Where are you going Taylor?” in “Bejeweled”

Lyrics: “Puttin’ someone first only works when you’re in their top five / And by the way,”

Chant: “Where are you going Taylor?”

Lyrics: “I’m goin’ out tonight”

Another enthusiastic fan initiated this chant at the end of the first verse of ‘Bejeweled’ off of Swift’s album Midnights , in the final “era” of the concert. “And by the way,” Swift sings before pausing. In the gap, fans ask “Where are you going, Taylor?”, to which she ‘replies,’ “I’m goin’ out tonight”.

Dance on “shimmer” in “Bejeweled”

Lyrics: “Best believe I’m still bejewelled / When I walk in the room / I can still make the whole place shimmer”

Response: [Twinkle your fingers on shimmer]

Back in October of 2022, a fan posted a video choreographing a dance to the ‘Bejeweled’ chorus, and it promptly went viral. Then it went viral all over again when Swift surprised audiences by recreating his moves on the Eras tour opening night. Naturally, it’s now a compulsory move during the song.

Response: “Facts!”

Another nod to another remix, during “Karma,” fans have taken to imitating Ice Spice , who appears on the deluxe edition of Midnights .

Ever since Swift famously changed the “Karma” lyrics as a nod to her new boyfriend, NFL player Travis Kelce , fans have been getting on board with the lyric swap. Instead of singing “Karma is the guy on the screen,” in reference to ex Joe Alwyn , fans sing “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,” referencing Kelce’s Super Bowl-winning NFL team.

One of the most popular Eras traditions is the making and swapping of friendship bracelets, paying homage to a line in “You’re On Your Own, Kid”: “So make the friendship bracelets / Take the moment and taste it”.

Australian fans should note, however, that event organisers have warned that they need to wear their bracelets on their arms or stow them in their bag for safety reasons. “Friendship bracelets are allowed to be brought into the venues but must be worn on patrons’ arms — strictly no carabiner, d-rings or other,” Frontier Touring have clarified.

Not all the tracks are performed in full – some are shortened versions. There's also a couple of additional little interludes that pop up throughout the show.

For context, on the Rep tour, Taylor performed 19 tracks in total, including several mashups that featured some of her older songs. For The 1989 World Tour, she performed 18 songs, while 17 songs were performed on The Red Tour and the Speak Now World Tour.

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department?

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist?

Aside from a few song changes, the Eras Tour setlist remained the same throughout the 2023 shows and every show up until the release of 'The Tortured Poets Department'. During the first Paris show in May 2024, Taylor changed the order of the setlist, removed six songs and added seven new ones from 'TTPD'.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform ' Castles Crumbling ' with Hayley Williams at some point, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. Unlike Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM, who joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts, a 'Castles Crumbling' duet might be more likely to appear as a surprise song.

Taylor will finish her European leg in London in August 2024, before returning to North America in November 2024. It's possible that she may make more changes to the final leg of the show.

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the 'Speak Now' bops, 'Red' bangers and '1989' hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift adds 7 new songs to her Eras Tour — plus all the other changes she's made to the show

"The Tortured Poets Department" has officially joined the setlist.

era tour intro

Taylor Swift is fresh out the slammer, and right back into the Eras Tour grind.

Swifties everywhere had been anticipating her Thursday show in Paris because it's the first concert of her worldwide tour since the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , which dropped on April 19. Since she first announced the record, fans have wondered if she would incorporate it into her nearly three-and-a-half-hour Eras performances, and what songs may get cut or changed to accommodate it.

Speculation went into overdrive recently when Swift posted a YouTube Short of herself preparing for the tour that included what looks like a new mic, set pieces, and choreography — strongly implying that the first major changes to Eras were imminent.

Swift has made small tweaks to the show, like adding "Long Live" to the "Speak Now" section when that re-recorded album came out during the tour, or swapping out "Invisible String" for the "The 1" in the "Folklore" set in the wake of her breakup with Joe Alwyn . But adding a whole new era would be the most seismic shift yet, and all eyes were on the City of Light to see if and how the singer-songwriter did it.

So, come one, come all, [the Eras Tour] is happening again — and Entertainment Weekly has highlighted all of its changes below.

"Tortured Poets" added to the intro mash-up

While the introduction to the first Era of the evening, "Lover," remained largely the same, the audio that plays before Swift takes the stage — which includes snippets from all of the show's featured albums — boasted a short bit from her new song "The Tortured Poets Department," off her latest album of the same name. The singer also debuted a new orange-tinted bodysuit and matching jacket during the first era.

"The Archer" cut from the "Lover" set

The "Lover" set used to end with "The Archer" and go straight into Swift's "Fearless" era, but no more. Now the set ends after "Lover." But its stunning transition with the sparkler effect is still intact.

A new "Fearless" dress

Swift donned a shimmery fringe dress in her second album's era.

The set order changed!

Instead of "Fearless" giving way to the "Evermore" era, Swift transitioned to the "Red" set — though the music box mime that previously kicked off the era is still in the show. This was the first indication of the night that major changes were coming to the tour, and it meant the entire performance will now unfold in a different order. The new order is:

"Lover" "Fearless" "Red" "Speak Now" "Reputation" "Folklore + Evermore" "1989" "The Tortured Poets Department" Surprise songs "Midnights"

"Red" got some updates

Swift debuted a new shirt during the top of the "Red" set that reads: "This IS NOT Taylor's Version." She also made remarks to the crowd before performing the 10-minute version of "All Too Well." Previously, she engaged with the audience like this during the "Evermore" era.

"Speak Now" got new visuals, but "Long Live" got cut

The era for Swift's third LP, Speak Now , began with a new, prolonged choreographed number accompanying instrumentals from the album before the singer eventually showed up (in a new ballgown, naturally) to sing "Enchanted." The visuals on the big screen were also new — but still very purple, of course.

However, fan-favorite Speak Now track "Long Live" did not survive this set, meaning "Enchanted" is now the sole song for this era.

"Folklore" and "Evermore" were combined

Featuring an updated intro with tweaked visuals and instrumentals, the "Folklore" set also started with a completely different song. Previously, the era began with Swift atop a cabin singing "The 1," but now she kicks things off with "Cardigan." But Swift — who also wore a new yellow dress for the set — still gave a little speech before performing "Betty." Instead of going right into "The Last Great American Dynasty," however, she revealed another twist: The eras for her 2020 sister albums, Folklore and Evermore, have officially been combined. She then proceeded to play "Cardigan."

The setlist for this new sister era is: "Cardigan" "Betty" "Champagne Problems" "August" "Illicit Affairs" "My Tears Ricochet" "Marjorie" "Willow"

This means the following songs were cut from the "Folklore" and "Evermore" sections: "'Tis the Damn Season," "Tolerate It," "The 1," and "The Last Great American Dynasty."

A new 'fit for "1989"

The singer debuted a new multicolor separate set for this era, complete with mismatched shoes.

"The Tortured Poets Department" makes its Eras debut

After "1989," new literary-themed visuals floated on the big screen, paving the way for the first new era of the tour: "The Tortured Poets Department." Naturally, this meant brand-new choreography and costumes, as well as black-and-white visuals throughout — of a haunted house, alien spaceships, and the asylum from the "Fortnight" music video . The platform on the stage also seemed to move around the set in ways we haven't seen before as the singer performed on top of it. At one point, Swift was picked up off the ground and forced to change on stage as circus-type music played in the background. She then segued this into "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," which featured several old Hollywood motifs and choreography involving top hats and canes. The "The Tortured Poets Department" setlist includes:

"But Daddy I Love Him" and "So High School" mash-up "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" "Down Bad," which segued into "Fortnight" "Fortnight" "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"

Surprise songs

Nothing changed in this section of the tour besides Swift donning a new magenta dress. But she performed "Paris" on guitar and the TTPD track "Loml" on piano, officially confirming that the new album could be performed in the acoustic set from here on out.

A "Midnights" costume change

Swift debuted what seemed to be a new "Midnights" bodysuit during her performance of "Midnight Rain." This era was otherwise unchanged.

New Eras Tour merch!

Immediately after the show, the singer's website was updated with new merchandise featuring an Eras Tour logo with Tortured Poets art front and center — previously, a Midnights promo shot was used. The new merch curiously features names such as "The Eras II Tour Gray Crewneck."

‘This Is Extraordinary’: Why the Eras Tour Is Taylor Swift’s Greatest Live Triumph Yet

By Rob Sheffield

Rob Sheffield

“Jersey, welcome to the Eras Tour!” Taylor Swift yelled on Friday night. “There is one thing that I daydream about with the childlike enthusiasm of a hundred birthday parties, and that is MetLife Stadium Night 1.” That gets the mood about right. She spent this weekend at her long-awaited MetLife Stadium shows in New Jersey destroying the hearts and lungs of 83,000 of the planet’s most godforsaken messes. All three shows were chaotic jubilation, full of songs we’ve waited years to sing. And Taylor missed this more than any of us.

This weekend I spent three consecutive nights at these shows, singing and weeping and suffering and agonizing through an emotional epic Tay-pocalypse every night. But it feels brutal that it’s over so soon. Nobody wanted it to stop. Not even Taylor, who paused on Sunday night at her piano during “Champagne Problems” to rave, “If you think I’m just coasting along thinking this is normal, I can assure you this is not the case. This is extraordinary.”

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, 25 most influential creators of 2024.

The communal vibe is always intense at a Swift show, but never more than at this one. I was in the Night 1 parking lot about 10 minutes before someone I’d never met gave me a BETTY’S CARDIGAN friendship bracelet that I’m still wearing right now. I brought extra packs of pocket tissues, which came in handy when the Fearless interlude inspired a few meltdowns in my row Sunday night. When Taylor began the Evermore section into “Tis the Damn Season,” the security guy came over and said, “You the guy with the tissues?” Another couple of fans were having tear-duct emergencies, sobbing to me, “I really love this album!” ONLY at a Taylor show.

Muna's Katie Gavin Debuts New Song With Japanese House at L.A. Show

Ice spice's new york show was a coronation for a budding icon, ice spice caps off 'y2k' release day with medley on 'fallon'.

Over the show, she celebrates every part of her career, except her 2006 country debut, which surprisingly doesn’t even make a token appearance, though she’s done some of the songs as acoustic one-offs. (There’s no other career where such a great debut could turn out to be Not Era Enough.) Some of the eras turned into full-blown dance parties, like 1989 , Reputation , and Midnights . Fearless was the one era where she flashed her early twangy side — she made such a statement by stepping out on the catwalk after the first verse for a triumphant power twirl. It was pandemonium when she introduced “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story” by asking, “Jersey, are you ready to go back to high school with me?”

By the time she got to the Folklore era, it was already a few hours into the show, but her emotional brutality never let up — honestly, the worst thing that she ever did was what she did to us. She sang “The One” on the roof of a mossy cottage — the line that blows up into a real audience screamer is “You meet some woman on the internet and taaaaake her hooome .” She did just the peak of “Illicit Affairs,” the “don’t call me kid” chant — a song about sordid meetings in parking lots hit hard coming an hour after “Fearless,” a very different song about a couple in a parking lot, but maybe the same girl a few years down the line. So many of the songs felt extra cathartic live, since virtually all of us in the crowd learned to sing these songs in a moment of extreme solitude and isolation. She did “Betty,” “Cardigan,” “My Tears Ricochet,” and the unstoppable “August,” pouncing on that final “get in the car!” Also, it wouldn’t be Tay’s style to forget that MetLife Stadium is literally behind a mall .

She slips acoustic surprise songs into the set list every night, one on guitar and one alone with her piano. On Friday night, she did “Getaway Car” (with Jersey boy Jack Antonoff) and “Maroon.” On Saturday, it was a pair of New York love songs, “Holy Ground” and “False God.” But the peaks were Sunday night, when she did a stripped-down “Welcome to New York,” leaning hard on the line that people chose to overlook in 2014 — “You can want who you want/Boys and boys and girls and girls.” Then she did a devastating “Clean” on piano. Her enthusiasm spilled over with quips like “You guys always give 113 per cent” or “You will get a treat for that!” Early on Friday night, she declared, “You guys are historically a great crowd. Do you think that you want to continue that tradition?” When the fans roared, she replied, “I was hoping you would say that. In case you said no, I was going to just ditch this plan completely.”

“All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)” was the coup de grace, filling up the enormous space with the sound of just Taylor and her thousands of confidantes. It couldn’t help but evoke the moment when she sang it the first time she played MetLife Stadium — 10 summers ago, in July 2013. That night, it already seemed incredibly to think of how far she’d come so fast. But 10 ears later, hearing “All Too Well” in that same venue, it seemed to sum up everywhere she’s traveled in those past 10 years. Like the rest of the Eras Tour, it was a celebration of all the holy ground she and her audience has covered.

At one point on Sunday night, during the Midnights finale, I heard voices and thought the security guard near me was arguing with a fan. It turned out they were just trading friendship bracelets. It’s THAT kind of show. That’s the world this woman and only this woman creates, on an epic scale, night after night. There’s no experience in music like being part of that world Taylor Swift creates for a few hours. And there’s no way not to feel joyful about taking it all with you when you leave.

Missed the Eras Tour when it came through your city? Don’t worry, you still have a chance to catch it — but this time, on the big screen.

Taylor Swift announced on Aug. 31 that she’d be bringing her massively popular global trek to AMC theaters all across North America, following the conclusion of its first U.S. leg earlier this month. Sharing an 80-second trailer jam-packed with shots from Swift’s career-spanning stage show, the 33-year-old pop star took to social media to announce the exciting news.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Is Officially Coming to Theaters: How to…

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far,” she wrote. “I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”

The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at… pic.twitter.com/eKRqS8C7d1 — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) August 31, 2023

Just like with the Eras Tour tickets, anticipation for the concert film is so high, Swifties brought down the ticketing app — in this case, the AMC app instead of Ticketmaster — with Swifties tweeting about wait times, and some noting that they couldn’t even get the app to load. Ahead of the concert announcement, the company had even upgraded its website so that it could handle more than five times thelargest ticketing traffic it previously experienced.

“AMC is … aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale,” the company had said in a statement announcing the concert film, which also warned fans of possible delays and outages of its website.

Keep reading to see everything Billboard knows so far about the Eras Tour concert film, below:

When It Comes Out

Taylor Swift

The Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour   movie arrives in theaters Friday, October 13.

How to Get Tickets

AMC will offer the film in IMAX and Dolby Cinema as well as standard screenings, with fees varying by format and theatre. In anticipation of an expected rush of interest — a.k.a., a repeat of Ticketmaster’s hectic presale roll-out for the U.S. Eras Tour dates — AMC upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic ever experienced by the company.

With all that said, standard tickets are $19.89 (plus tax) for adults and $13.13 for children and seniors (plus tax). The film will be available in AMC theaters in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, as well as certain other movie operators that AMC is working as distributor for in those three countries ( Cinemark , Cineplex and Cinepolis).

Every U.S. AMC Theatre location will run the movie at least four times per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays while it’s showing.

Tickets are already on sale. Read on for more information on how to get tickets here .

When It Was Filmed, And Where

The Eras Tour film was shot over the course of Swift’s first three shows at SoFi Stadium, where she performed a total of six straight shows in early August. The Los Angeles venue attracted a total of nearly 500,000 fans.

Possible Surprise Songs

The pop star performed a total of six surprise songs during her Aug. 3-5 dates at SoFi, meaning each of them are possible contenders for a featured spot in the film: “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “Our Song,” “You Are in Love,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid.”

One possible hint as to which of these songs will be included is that the Eras movie trailer shows Swift’s “self-titled” debut as being featured in the film. The sole song from her first album performed at any of the three taped shows was “Our Song,” which cropped up during her acoustic set on Aug. 4.

Plus, against her early tour promise that she wouldn’t repeat any non- Midnights surprise songs, this was Swift’s second time singing “Our Song” during the acoustic section of an Eras show — the first being in Las Vegas in March. Coincidence?

The Runtime

Taylor Swift

An average Eras Tour concert runs for more than three hours, but Swift’s publicist Tree Paine confirmed to Billboard that the concert film has an official runtime of 2 hours, 45 mins.

It’s unclear what parts of Swift’s show her team may have shaved off to get the movie down to a shorter length.

The Director

The Eras Tour film was directed by Sam Wrench, the filmmaker behind past concert movies like Billie Eilish Live at the O2 and  BTS: Permission to Dance . The Grammy-nominated creative specializes in shooting live music content, with a resumé that includes projects for Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Mary J. Blige.

There Are Already Easter Eggs

Notice anything odd about those ticket prices?

AMC is charging a standard $19.89 fee (minus tax) for adults, a clear callback to Swift’s 2014 fifth studio album 1989 — which, coincidentally, is also her next “Taylor’s Version” re-record on the docket, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) arriving this October. Plus, kids and senior tix are priced $13.13, a not-so-subtle reference to Swift’s famous lucky number, 13.

Then, not so much an Easter egg but something worth decoding, Swift included this in her announcement post for the film: “1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk).”

Need an explainer? Allow Billboard to translate. Dating back to the Reputation Tour, it’s been a tradition for Swifties to yell “1, 2, 3, let’s go b-tch!” in between the opening refrain and first verse of “Delicate,” which Swift still sings live at the Eras Tour. It all started with a viral video from one fan who originated the phrase, and you can be sure to hear it ripple through the audience in the Eras Tour movie.

It's Going to Be A Full Experience

Taylor Swift

It seems like Swift is doing her best to make the Eras Tour film viewing experience feel as similar as possible to experiencing an actual Eras Tour concert. That’s because she encouraged fans to engage in all the same festivities as they would at a live show when they hit theaters for a screening: “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” she wrote in her announcement for the film.

Inspired by a lyric in Midnights track “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” Swifties have spent the summer exchanging handmade friendship bracelets at Eras Tour shows — even celebrities have gotten in on the trend!

The Song You Probably Won't See

“‘Tis The Damn Season” is usually a fixture in the Evermore set list, but it probably won’t be included in the Eras Tour concert film. That’s because it was replaced with “No Body, No Crime,” which Swift performed with openers HAIM, in all of the performances that were taped for the movie.

The only way you’ll see the fan-favorite soft jam on the big screen is if it was shot at another one of Swift’s shows without anyone noticing.

It's Not Swift's First Documentary

Swifties may remember that this isn’t the “Anti-Hero” singer’s first time in a feature documentary film, and it certainly isn’t the first time she’s put together a concert film for one of her tours.

Taylor Swift | Eras Tour will follow Swift’s Netflix documentary Miss Americana , which came out in 2020. The Lana Wilson-directed project largely captured the star as she was transitioning from her Reputation era to Lover while finding confidence as an activist.

Prior to that, Swift released concert films for her Reputation and 1989 tours, via Netflix and Apple Music, respectively. She also released DVDs of her first two headlining treks before that: 2010’s Journey to Fearless and 2011’s Speak Now World Tour — Live .

How It Got Around The SAG-AFTRA Strike

The Eras Tour film was created at a time when production on almost every other big screen project was halted by the SAG-AFTRA writers’ strike. Rules of the labor strike, which began in July 2023, mandate that no members are allowed to work on or promote any of their films until their demands are met by production companies — so how did Swift’s come together in that time period?

As it turns out, a source close to the Swift film confirmed to  Billboard  that the Eras doc obtained clearance under the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement before filming. The agreement green lights individual non-AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) productions that meet the standards sought by unions involved in the strike, including scheduled breaks, payment for fittings, meal and wardrobe allowances for principal actors and background actors, per diems, rest periods and more.

Billboard  also confirmed that the Swift film is included under an assumed name on the  list of approved interim agreement projects .

It's Already Breaking Records

Taylor Swift

AMC announced the morning after tickets went on sale that the film event had already broken its single-day advance-ticket sales revenue records . The haul? An astounding $26 million in just 24 hours. The theater chain noted that its the highest advance sales revenue day in the company’s 103-year history. The previous first-24-hours record for AMC was held by 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home , which brought in $16.9 million — an amount that the chain said Swift’s concert film surpassed in the first three hours tickets were on sale.

What Taylor Swift's All Too Well 10 Minute Version Lyrics Mean

Who taylor swift's "betty" song is about & how it connects to ryan reynolds, taylor swift: the eras tour movie ending - why midnights is the final era.

  • The Eras Tour movie, which is available on Disney+, features a massive setlist that includes songs from Taylor Swift's entire discography.
  • The theatrical version, video on demand version, Disney+ version, and 2024 live version of the concert tour contain slightly different set lists.
  • The Tortured Poets Department era added new songs to the setlist in 2024. These songs are not on the officially released recorded versions.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie takes the singer-songwriter's record-breaking concert series and brings it to the big and small screens, with over 40 songs from her 18-year career included on the setlist. There are now three versions of The Eras Tour movie: October 2023's theatrical release, December 2023's VOD release, and March 2024's Disney+ streaming release. Unlike its live event counterpart, each version of The Eras Tour movie leaves a few of Swift's biggest songs on the cutting room floor. Even so, it's not enough to incite any "Bad Blood" among fans; the concert movie is packed with all the spectacle, nostalgia, and thrills of Swift's billion dollar-earning Eras Tour .

The theatrical version of Swift's staggering three-hour performance clocks in at around 169 minutes, with the Disney+ streaming version clocking at the full three and a half hours . A journey through Taylor Swift's 10-album musical past and present, The Eras Tour movie fulfills every fan's "Wildest Dreams." Though songs from every album are featured on the movie's setlist, each version of the concert film has a different number of tracks cut for time-sensitive issues. The Eras Tour movie is the cherry on top of an ultra-successful tour for Taylor Swift — and every song in the film reiterates that she's not just a beloved musician, but a global pop icon .

13 Album/Era: Lover

Swift kicks off her Era Tour with tracks from Lover , her seventh studio album. The album was supposed to have its own tour in 2020, but it was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it makes sense that Swift would lead off with performances from the tour that couldn't happen.

Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince

The opening song on Swift's The Eras Tour movie, "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince" is a great way to immediately get fans into the concert. With a lyric that boasts, " It's you and me, that's my whole world " and a decidedly upbeat energy , it's hard to argue with this song's position as the concert opener. Swift somehow manages to sustain the energy from the tour kicking off here all the way to the end. Even in slower-tempo songs, she keeps the crowd in the palm of her hand.

Cruel Summer

One of her biggest releases in recent years, "Cruel Summer" also comes from Taylor Swift's seventh studio album , Lover . The chart-topping radio hit is not only easy to sing along to, with an incredibly catchy chorus that every audience member is sure to know, but it's also the first narrative-driven track on the Eras Tour setlist.

After enjoying much-deserved applause from the audience at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium, Swift playfully acknowledges that all the adoration might just go to her head. The cheers make her feel like " The Man, " she says, before launching into the Lover track of the same name. A fun bit of staging sees the singer kicking her bedazzled boots up in an office cubicle, all while rocking a shiny silver blazer that's an ode to Taylor Swift's iconic music video for "The Man."

The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , which is the most complete version of the concert film, is available to stream exclusively on Disney+. The entire setlist is available to stream through music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

You Need To Calm Down

The penultimate song off of Lover , "You Need to Calm Down" is a divisive one. Like so many of Swift's singles, it feels a bit disconnected from the rest of the album (though it's certainly a marked improvement over "ME!"). Even so, there's no denying that the song makes for a great live performance. With a catchy chorus and plenty of opportunities for Swift to pull some theatrical moments, it's a welcome addition to the setlist.

To close out the Lover era in the theatrical and VOD films, Swift plays the album's title song on an appropriately pink guitar. The twangs of the sweet, slow-burn love song are a welcome break from the blood-pumping tracks that opened the concert. Not to mention, "Lover" allows Swift to transition pretty seamlessly into another acoustic guitar-driven era — Fearless .

How To Watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour gives people new ways to experience Taylor Swift's concert. Here is how to watch the movie in theaters or on streaming.

The Archer (Taylor's Version)

Originally cut from the box office record-smashing theatrical version of The Eras Tour movie, the hit Lover song "The Archer" is included in the setlist in the Disney+ streaming version of the concert film. Rather than the titular track, Disney+'s The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) sees "The Archer" close out the Lover era before moving into Fearless . Of course, after changing up her set list for the live tour, the song was cut from the tour completely, though Swift still uses the "archer" move of mimicking launching an arrow from a bow in some of her dances.

Death By A Thousand Cuts (Taylor's Version)

The bonus acoustic sets included exclusively in The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+ includes the Lover track "Death by a Thousand Cuts" directly after "I Can See You." Stripped down to an acoustic guitar version, Taylor Swift described the Easter egg-filled song as " one of [her] favorites " before launching into the performance.

12 Album/Era: Fearless

After a quick costume change, Swift bounces back on stage wearing a gold-and-silver dress and strumming a sparkly silver guitar, all of which recalls the singer's Fearless era . Swift opens the shorter chapter in the show with the title track, inviting long-time Swifties to belt out the radio hit's catchy chorus alongside her. Catchy is the name of the Fearless era. All three of the songs performed here are tracks that got a lot of radio play with choruses that get stuck in the audience's head.

You Belong With Me

It's anything but a " typical Tuesday " night when fans get to sing along with Taylor Swift to her classic "You Belong With Me." For those who may not have been lucky enough to snag a seat in the bleachers (or elsewhere) on the Eras Tour , Swift makes moviegoers feel like proper cheer captains while singing this one — a song that's sure to put a smile on every viewer's face.

With its very country feel, the song captures the feeling of first love — and the desire to turn it into a fairy tale — perfectly.

Another early career-defining hit, "Love Story" consumed the airwaves upon its release, becoming a love-it-or-hate-it track for many. With its very country feel, the song captures the feeling of first love — and the desire to turn it into a fairy tale — perfectly. Watching Swift perform it all these years later, with hindsight and wisdom, is even more exciting.

11 Album/Era: Evermore

After closing out the Fearless era, Swift returns to the stage with a completely different vibe. To sell "willow," the lead single off her ninth studio album, evermore , Swift dresses in a witchy green cloak , surrounded by her coven of orb-toting witches. The backdrop of mist-laden pine trees only furthers this song's remarkable visuals, making "willow" a truly stand-out moment. The visuals during this era of the tour are stunning, which is why fans didn't want to see much of it cut to make room for more music.

How Much Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Has Made At The Box Office (& How Much It Cost)

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour could be a record-breaking box office hit. Here is how much it is expected to earn and how much it cost to make.

While not a chart-topper, "Marjorie" is one of Swift's most deeply personal songs — and a clear fan-favorite track. An ode to her late grandmother, "Marjorie" sees the singer giving one of her most emotional performances of the night , which is made all the more intimate by the fact that the SoFi audience holds their lit phones high, like candles, and sways to the melancholy tune.

Champagne Problems

The evermore era is full of memorable moments, and none of them miss the mark. After singing solo in the glow of the audience's lights during "Marjorie," Swift sits down at a moss-covered piano for one of the album's most beloved tracks, "champagne problems." While the artist is known for her mastery of a good bridge, the build and lyrics of "champagne problems " make for one of the most fun tracks for Swifties to belt out either alone or together.

Tolerate It

To close out the evermore era, Swift returns to the heavy staging of "willow," but strips things down a bit. Instead of playing in a witchy forest, Swift sings the heart-wrenching "tolerate it" to a soon-to-be ex-partner. Sitting across from him at a long dinner table, Swift captures the emotional distance of the song perfectly — and the drama of her swiping items off the furniture and then crawling toward the other actor is just great.

10 Album/Era: Reputation

… ready for it.

There's simply no other way to open the Reputation era. "...Ready For It?" will have viewers standing up in the theater chanting , " let the games begin! " as if Swift hasn't already been playing for over an hour. While Reputation received mixed reactions upon its release, there's no doubt that some of its songs were made for a stadium tour.

One of Swift's most beloved songs off of Reputation , her sixth studio album , "Delicate" is about a burgeoning relationship — one that Swift wants to start quickly, but without scaring off her partner-to-be. The track perfectly captures that flutter of anticipation and excitement, and it's hard not to grin while singing along with Swift.

Don’t Blame Me

" Lord, save me, my drug is my baby/ I'll be usin' for the rest of my life, " Swift belts in "Don't Blame Me," the penultimate song of the Reputation era. Again, this is one of those tracks that was written to be sung live in front of a massive audience and finds Swift digging deep to provide a vocally charged performance.

Look What You Made Me Do

The last song in the Reputation era is one of the highlights of Taylor Swift's: The Eras Tour movie. "Look What You Made Me Do," the lead single off the album, sees Swift singing about her new self — while her past selves bang on glass cages. It's an incredibly fun trip through the eras of Taylor Swift's career (and her most memorable looks) and the backup dancers help make this number soar.

9 Album/Era: Speak Now

The only song Swift delivers from the Speak Now era in the theatrical version , "Enchanted" is, simply put, an enchanting performance. With purple lighting and a periwinkle princess-like dress, Swift sings the beautiful 2010 song in one of the concert's softer moments. It's a much-needed comedown that's perfectly sandwiched between Reputation and Red .

Long Live (Taylor's Version)

Among the most disappointing song omissions from the theatrical version of The Eras Tour movie was her Speak Now track "Long Live." While the song played over The Eras Tour movie's closing credits, her performance in concert was enthralling. The song is finally restored to the setlist in the Disney+ version of The Eras Tour movie , where it plays directly after "Enchanted" in her Speak Now era.

The song is one of the tracks eventually cut from the tour to make room for a Tortured Poet's Department era, which disappointed a lot of long time fans, but there's always a possibility cut songs could return in the form of surprise songs.

I Can See You (Taylor's Version)

Only included in Disney+'s The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) movie , the closing credits are followed by bonus songs from her Los Angeles acoustic sets. This includes her first-ever live performance of the song "I Can See You," which was one of the vault tracks released in her Speak Now (Taylor's Version) album re-recording.

8 Album/Era: Red

Swift kicks off the Red era with her chart-topping "22" — and, for those in the audience, it really will " feel like the perfect night. " An infectious track, "22" sees Swift donning her iconic black bowler cap as well as a white T-shirt that references one of the song's more funny moments.

Every live performance of the song during Swift's tour sees her give the hat away to a fan in the audience. It's become a memorable experience to watch some of Swift's youngest fans be the recipient of the "22 hat" while many of them pass on a friendship bracelet to Swift herself.

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Keeping the "22" look, Swift launches into "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," a seminal breakup song from the hit album. Swift and her fellow performers are having some of the most fun of the night singing and dancing to the string of Red hits , which makes the experience all the more entertaining for viewers.

Who Taylor Swift Gives The "22" Hat To In The Eras Tour Movie (Tragic Backstory Explained)

There's an emotional backstory behind the recipient of Taylor Swift's hat during her performance of the song "22" in The Eras Tour concert movie.

I Knew You Were Trouble

The last of Red 's big, chart-topping dance hits, "I Knew You Were Trouble" rounds out the trifecta of the album's most recognizable, most-played tracks. Again, Swift and the Eras Tour performers have a lot of fun with this one , playing into the over-the-top drama of the lyrics in a very tongue-in-cheek way.

All Too Well (10 Minute Version)

Without a doubt, the Red finale is one of the highlights — if not the highlight — of the concert. Swift takes the stage with a red guitar, wearing a bedazzled red jacket, and sings the Easter egg-filled 10-minute version of "All Too Well ," one of the most poetic, immersive, and intimate songs she's ever penned.

Audiences will sing every word in this 10-minute take-down of he-who-still-has-the-red-scarf, and there's nothing quite as cathartic or magical as belting out the "All Too Well" bridge in a full theater or at home.

Taylor Swift's 10-minute All Too Well version is supposedly about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. Here's a deeper dive into the song's lyrics.

7 Album/Era: folklore

While it's hard to hit the emotional highs of "All Too Well," Swift returns to the stage to deliver hits from her folklore era. Defined by its cottagecore vibes, folklore was the album that converted many casual listeners into full-fledged Swifties. Interestingly, Swift kept "the 1" in the film, even though the track infamously replaced another folklore song, "invisible string," in the Eras Tour setlist .

The folklore album is rife with narrative-driven tracks that hit home what an incredible storyteller Swift is — and always has been. Strumming her guitar, Swift breaks out the best example of this with "betty." Whenever Swift performs this one live, it's a treat. With a perfect emotional and sonic build, "betty" takes her country roots and amplifies the best qualities of the genre. The track is also grouped with folklore songs "august" and " cardigan" to tell a three-song love triangle story from different perspectives.

Taylor Swift performs a song called "Betty" during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and the inspiration behind the lyrics relates to Ryan Reynolds.

The Last Great American Dynasty

The visuals, which all feel a tad Great Gatsby , capture the story Swift is telling quite vividly.

An ode to Swift's Rhode Island mansion, "the last great american dynasty" is a visual feast that tells the story of the home's former owner. The visuals, which all feel a tad Great Gatsby , capture the story Swift is telling quite vividly. The performances features some of the most unique costumes of the tour as the dancers really take a step back in time.

One of the most well-loved songs in folklore , "august" is the perfect end-of-summer track , full of yearning and nostalgia. It's a treat to hear Swift perform it live during the Eras Tour as it's so easy to get lost in the song's amiable current.

Illicit Affairs (Excerpt)

While "illicit affairs" only makes a brief appearance in the Eras Tour movie, the excerpt is incredibly moving. It caps off "august" and transitions beautifully into "my tears ricochet," setting up a kind of three-part narrative from the folklore era. Swift actually uses a lot of her own songs to transition from one track to another during the concert , making for smooth changes in music, and a unique way to feature more songs, even if she only sings a few lines from them.

My Tears Ricochet

The last piece of the folklore era in the theatrical and VOD versions , "my tears ricochet" is more mournful, and it brings the mood down a bit. Nonetheless, the raw emotion on display is incredibly powerful, capturing an important aspect of the album.

Cardigan (Taylor's Version)

When The Eras Tour movie debuted in theaters, one of the few complaints was that "cardigan" had been cut from the film. Not only was this one of the biggest and most beloved songs from Swift's folklore album, but it also completed the three-song love story with "betty" and "august." Exclusively in the Disney+ version of The Eras Tour movie, "cardigan" is restored to the setlist and arrives after the more somber "my tears ricochet" to close out folklore .

6 Album/Era: 1989

One thing that never goes out of style is Taylor Swift's 1989 album, which was re-released just a few weeks after the theatrical version of The Eras Tour movie hit theaters. Swift opens the more upbeat era's set list with "Style," one of the album's catchy singles that's sure to bring the mood back up.

Blank Space

One of Swift's most beloved songs, " Blank Space" is also one of the artist's most iconic music videos . In it, the ever-self-aware Swift plays the version of herself the tabloids invented: a relationship-hungry woman who acts like men are disposable. In a cheeky nod to the video, Swift wields a glowing golf club, making the song plenty of fun in The Eras Tour .

Shake It Off

There's not one person in the audience who can sit during "Shake It Off," even if it isn't one of their favorite Swift songs. T he hit song off of her 1989 album makes for an exciting show with Swift's fellow dancers during The Eras Tour movie due to its catchy chorus and exciting choreography.

Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)

Another song that was cut from The Eras Tour movie released in theaters is "Wildest Dreams," the hit 1989 track that finds its way back into the setlist in Disney+'s iteration of the concert film. The song returns to its place between "Shake it Off" and "Bad Blood," which allows for a calmer track in-between the two high-energy songs.

The final pick from Swift's 1989 era, "Bad Blood" is also one of the most fun numbers of the night. Full of over-the-top flair (and fire), it features a send-up of Swift's "squad" — a group of pals she hung out with during that era of her life.

You Are In Love (Taylor's Version)

Moving into the piano version of the bonus "surprise song" acoustic sets on the Disney+ movie, Taylor Swift sings the track "You Are in Love" as a quieter but powerful ballad. From her album 1989, "You Are in Love" is such a beautiful performance that it nearly seems as if So-Fi Stadium has gone quiet to her hear singing.

5 Album/Era: Taylor Swift (Debut)

The first of Swift's surprise songs in the acoustic set for the Disney+ movie , "Our Song" is from Swift's self-titled debut album. For the performance, Swift stands adrift in a spotlight, strumming her guitar. It's a throwback to her 2006 introduction, but also a moment that shows just how far she's come.

4 Album/Era: Midnights

You’re on your own, kid.

The second surprise song for Disney+ is from Swift's most recent studio album, Midnights . "You're On Your Own, Kid" definitely plays against the optimistic "Our Song" in an interesting way , allowing Swift to reflect on her earlier eras with a kind of newfound knowledge. In a beautiful moment, the song sees Swift alone on stage playing her well-worn piano.

Lavender Haze

One of the big singles off Midnights , "Lavender Haze" sees Swift and the stage drenched in purple . For a track that's all about atmosphere, "Lavender Haze" more than delivers, kicking off the final era in style.

The lead single off of Midnights , "Anti-Hero" has become a sensation — even by Swift's high standards. Hearing the radio hit in the Eras Tour concert is a treat, especially since the lyrics are so widely known by audience members. Furthermore, The Eras Tour amps up the performance with a screen visual of a giant Swift knocking down buildings – a nod to the lyrics and music video.

Taylor Swift ends her lengthy set in The Eras Tour movie with tracks from Midnights, and there's a very reasonable explanation as to why.

Midnight Rain

One of Midnights' moodier tracks, "Midnight Rain" is a catchy bop, for sure. The slower song may have been a surprising choice for the setlist over other Taylor Swift songs that were cut from The Eras Tour movie , but it still makes for an entrancing celebration of her 10th album, and it gives her a chance to catch her breath while the audience sings along.

Vigilante Sh*t

Sounding like a Reputation era reject, "Vigilante Sh*t" delivers a final moment of drama , allowing Swift to serve some looks while owning her past. While it may not have had the breakout moment of "Anti-Hero," the song is a Midnights standout.

In the "Bejeweled" music video, Swift joins burlesque icon Dita Von Teese for some of the dancer's most iconic moves . While the stage version of the song doesn't recreate the music video by any means, it still serves up Chicago -level vibes. The music video also featured Swift's collaborators like HAIM and Jack Antonoff , but the musicians aren't on stage with Taylor for this Eras Tour performance.

There's no denying that Swift is the "Mastermind" she sings about in the Eras Tour 's penultimate song. A softer moment, "Mastermind" is a bit of a comedown from the other tracks on Midnights , though it also allows the concert's grand finale to shine.

The endlessly danceable, easy-to-sing, infectiously upbeat song is the perfect note to end on, and it will certainly send viewers out into their night with a smile.

Probably one of the songs dominating the airwaves, " Karma" closes out the Eras Tour movie with flair and fun . The endlessly danceable, easy-to-sing, infectiously upbeat song is the perfect note to end on, and it will certainly send viewers out into their night with a smile. In all three versions of The Eras Tour movie, Karma is the final number. However, the VOD and streaming versions tack on a few songs afterward as bonuses.

Maroon (Taylor's Version)

The final surprise track included in The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) 's bonus acoustic songs for Disney+ is "Maroon," one of her biggest hits off her 2022 album Midnights . The song is even more hauntingly beautiful and powerful on piano, and serves as a strong second-to-last number for the streaming film's bonus acoustic sets ahead of "You're on Your Own, Kid."

3 What Taylor Swift Songs Are Cut From Disney+'s The Era Tour (Taylor's Version) Movie

Despite its truly massive set list, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour did cut a few fan-favorite songs from the final film version , even when adding back in the majority of the songs for Disney+'s streaming version. This is likely for the sake of time, but it's still disappointing considering the overall high caliber of the cut songs. The tracks still missing from the movie are as follows:

  • "'tis the damn season" ( evermore )
  • "no body, no crime" ( evermore )
  • "Seven (Interlude)" ( folklore )

Of course, these aren't the only songs that have been cut from the tour in general. Several songs have been removed from the tour since it began to make room for the inclusion of new performances. When that happened, the Folklore and evermore eras were shortened and combined. Some of those cut songs have returned as surprise songs, and some haven't. These songs were ultimately cut during the 2024 leg of the tour to make room for a new era.

2 The Eras Tour's Surprise Songs

While the set list has, for the most part, remained steady during the tour, Taylor Swift does keep her fans on their toes with the addition of new songs at every single tour stop. Two surprise songs are performed on each night of the tour, songs that aren't on the set list. In some cases, these are whole songs while in other cases they are mashups of some of her different songs put together. She has even employed other musicians to come out and sing with her on surprise songs for the audience.

When the tour began, the idea was that Swift would be able to make it through her entire catalog of music if she wanted to, but she has performed some songs several times. She has performed nearly 200 songs all or in part during the concerts with only a handful of album tracks, as of July 2024, not making it into her set just yet.

Of course, Swift does have more songs that she's written for other artists, performed on other artists' albums, or even recorded for soundtracks that are not on her own albums which would allow her even more song choices if she decided to perform any of those. With the tour continuing through December 2024, she will likely make her way through every song she wants to perform live.

It is unlikely that songs like "Ronan" or "Soon You'll Get Better" will appear as surprise songs at this point though. Both songs were written for people who were diagnosed with severe illnesses, one for a child, and one for her own mother. Both songs have been cited as difficult for her to perform. Songs like "So Long, London" and "Florida!!!," however, are still likely to appear since Swift enjoys performing tracks with location names in them at those particular places. She's got tour stops in both London and Florida before the end of the year.

1 Album/Era: The Tortured Poets Department

Following the release of Taylor Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department (and the surprise double album The Anthology ), Swift switched up her set list a little bit. She cut some of the songs that fans had already seen as part of the filmed versions of the Eras Tour to make room to perform songs from The Tortured Poets Department for the rest of the dates on the tour.

These songs are not on the officially released recorded versions since the concerts that were filmed for the concert movie were before the album’s release.

But Daddy I Love Him/So High School

When Swift added this new era to the tour, she kicked it off with “But Daddy I Love Him,” one of the songs that got the most social media attention after the album’s release thanks to the line, “ I’m having his baby - no I’m not, but you should see your faces. ” The addition featured stark white costumes for Swift and her dancers as well as black and white set lights to reflect the aesthetic she created for the album.

DID YOU KNOW: On April 19, 2024, Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department was the first album in Spotify history to have over 300M streams in a single day (via Billboard ).

“So High School,” which fans are sure is about Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chief’s football player Travis Kelce, is often attached to the end of “But Daddy I Love Him” because Swift performs an abridged version of the song. In fact, she usually only performs the bridge of it, seamlessly trailing from one song into the other. “So High School” acts more as an actual bridge between tracks, giving her dancers a moment to rest as the shortened song allows them to sit and vibe instead of running across the stage.

Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?

For “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me,” Swift didn’t just introduce a new track to her performances, but also a new set piece . As Swift sings the line, “ so, I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street ,” she’s raised off the stage on a mirrored platform that rotates and helps to bring the anthemic song to life while the dancers emerge again around her.

The first time audiences saw the new addition, they were elated, but the rotating platform has left Swift stranded above the stage during malfunctions a handful of times, getting dancers to think quickly on their feet and help her down to keep the show moving . The song ends with a pretty haunting image of Swift with glowing eyes on the screen, giving this era a truly different feel than the others.

Down Bad/Fortnight

“Down Bad” compares falling for someone to being abducted by aliens, and the concert aesthetic leans into that as the lighting changes to feature a spotlight and a spaceship on the view screen. “ Down Bad,” however, is utilized in the tour much like “So High School,” bridging to performances with an abbreviated version of the song, leading right into “Fortnight.”

Swift essentially recreates a minimalist version of the “Fortnight” music video on stage , just without Post Malone. A rotated and angled platform maneuvered by Swift’s dancers is utilized while she sings to a dancer who is meant to be the man she’s singing about. It’s an effective way to bring the audience into the music video since there are so many pieces of the video she wouldn’t be able to recreate on stage.

The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

When Swift kicks off “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” she’s alone on stage as the song builds. Once it gets beyond the initial verse, Swift sings alongside her dancers and drumline. It’s not an incredibly theatrical part of the tour, but an effective and emotional one for the audience. The drumline while Swift marches to the front of the stage, and then ultimately, when she collapses at the end of the shortened song, allows the audience to really empathize with Swift’s broken heart in the narrative told by the songs she’s chosen.

I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

The last song of The Tortured Poets Department regularly performed as part of the Eras Tour is also one that features Swift and her dancers in some of their most theatrical moments. Between “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart,” Swift, in character for the show, decides she can’t keep performing. Two of her dancers have to convince her to keep going and help her with a wardrobe change on stage before the show kicks off.

It’s become one of the most talked about sequences on social media since the performance between Swift and the dancers changes slightly with each performance. Sometimes the tantrum thrown is more dramatic than others, and at least once, Travis Kelce has come on stage as part of the ensemble of dancers to participate in the routine.

“I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” has become the anthem of The Tortured Poets Department because the song has allowed the audience a window into how Swift has felt while doing her job, which includes performing for audiences of thousands, even when she would rather be at home wallowing in her grief. It's fitting that this song ends the era.

Though The Tortured Poets Departmen t is the newest album of the Eras Tour, it is not the last era performed in the tour. Instead, the new addition has actually been added in between the 1989 era and the surprise songs Swift performs each night. The Eras Tour still ends with Swift's Midnights tracks.

The Eras Tour Stage: See the Intricate World-Building of Every Set in Taylor Swift’s Most Ambitious Shows Ever

Taylor Swift performs onstage during night three of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour

Since kicking off in March of 2023, the Eras Tour stage has provided an immersive backdrop to Taylor Swift’s most ambitious shows to date. Indeed, there was a joke circling the internet following the opening weekend of the now nonpareil: look at any random collection of photos taken throughout the night—some even snapped mere minutes apart—and you’d never know they all came from the same show. What starts in a hazy pink, cotton candy dreamscape ends in a sultry, sparkling twilight—with plenty of undulating stops in the middle, from ethereal fairytale woods to the energetic skyscrapers of the concrete jungle.

“[The stage] changes for almost every song, which is crazy to think about considering most artists have the same stage for their entire set list,” Maya Minocha, a fan who has attended multiple shows, tells  AD. Broken down by “era,” the concert takes fans on a three-plus-hour journey through nearly every album in the singer’s 18-year career. “The sets absolutely made this possible,” Ginnie Low, a fan who attended the tour and runs the TikTok account The Thrifty Swiftie , says. “I didn’t move from my tiny little seat area the whole concert, but was transported to 10 different worlds.” Ariel Miranda , another concert-goer agrees. “It was such an immersive experience,” she says.

Now, over a year into the global phenomenon, the singer is still keeping fans on their toes with an ever changing assortment of costumes, track lists, and even a brand new set to commemorate her latest release, The Tortured Poets Department . With a distinct focus on world building,  AD takes a look at the incredible set design that helps bring her music to life throughout the triumphant concert.

The Lover Era

Swift opens the show with tracks off of her seventh studio album,  Lover. “It was as if she picked up right from where she left off,” Miranda says, referring to Swift’s COVID-19-induced cancellation of her sixth headline tour, Lover Fest, in 2020. Having characterized the album with yellow, pink, and blue pastels, Swift—outfitted in a shimmering leotard—belts songs like “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” and “Cruel Summer” while dancers wielding billowing tapestries perform beneath a rosy glow. Screens show two pink triumphal arcs, which were historically built to honor a person or commemorate an important event—a fitting gesture to begin the one-of-a-kind spectacle.

A familiar dollhouse-like home appears behind Swift later in the set, which many fans recognize from her “Lover” music video. “The screen begins flashing images that eventually piece together to become the Lover House, which was a huge Easter egg,” Miranda adds. In the video, Swift and costar Christian Owens move through various colored rooms  within a house in a snow globe. When the music video first dropped, fans theorized that each room represented one of her existing albums, and with the release of three new albums, many believe the home is now complete .

During The Man” Swift used scaffolding and office props to emulate a corporate environment.

Other notable scenes from the Lover section of the show include a full-scale office cosplay moment during “The Man,” where Swift sings about the sexism she’s faced throughout her career. While it’s been a part of the show since 2023, it certainly fits into the “ corporate fetish ” trend of late, in which offices have become unlikely muses.

The Fearless Era

Next up in the night, Swift performs three songs from her second album,  Fearless, for which she won album of the year in 2010 at the Grammys (the youngest artist to ever win the accolade). Though she was certainly popular in country circles following her self-titled debut album, it was this second record that established her mainstream success. And not only does the singer bring back some classic circa 2009  dance moves , she also showcases a dazzling gold motif that she employed when promoting the album over a decade ago.

Outfitted in soft curls and sequins, Swift was often portrayed as the girl next door and an American sweetheart during this period. Though she did, at times, lean into this persona, fans remember her determination to be bold, strong, and, yes, fearless. The sparkles and shine acted as visual representation of this.

For fans, perhaps the most exciting Easter egg was a nod to the bedazzled guitar that she toured with during her  Fearless era. In an Instagram story, Swift revealed that it was her parents who artfully stuck the shimmering crystals onto her acoustic instrument just days before the Eras Tour started.

The Red Era

During the European leg, Swift switched up the order of her sets, and moved the Red era to the third spot. The original tour for the album, which took place between 2013 and 2014, was her biggest at the time. It included a seven-piece band, fifteen dancers, multiple costume changes, as well as jumbotrons and multilevel stages. Though the Eras Tour stage certainly honors some of these larger-than-life moments from the first  Red tour, it also shows considerable restraint.

During one particularly emotional moment, Swift sings the 10-minute version of her critically acclaimed “All Too Well” with just her acoustic guitar. However, this doesn’t mean it wasn’t exciting. “Even some of her slower songs like “All Too Well,” where it was just her and a guitar, had insane stage effects that you wouldn’t expect, like snow confetti falling across the stadium and the stage rising when she starts singing a high note,” Minocha tells  AD.

The Speak Now Era

Though Swift only performs one song from her third album,  Speak Now —much to the disappointment of some fans—she makes sure it counts. The singer belts in a ballgown in a digitally crafted field of flowers, thanks to projections on the screens and the stage floor. The color purple defined the album’s aesthetic, and, though the shade is often associated with royalty, it can also symbolize ambition, power, and independence. Following her historic win at the Grammys for  Fearless,   Speak Now was a pivotal moment in her career. Could she keep up the pace or was she another teen star who lost momentum as they reached young adulthood? Not only did Swift deliver, she proved she could do it on her own: Speak Now was the first album she wrote entirely solo.

The Reputation Era

Spawned from Swift’s 2016 public feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West,  Reputation represented the singer’s reflection on fame, public perception, and an opportunity to rewrite the “good girl” narrative she’d carried around for years. Though the album is often billed as defensive and reactive, it remains one of her most misunderstood collections: It’s also full of love songs and sweet moments. The dark stadium and blood red risers certainly support the most common perception of the album; however, it’s hard to miss the lit candles just below her. After all, it’s no coincidence burning is just as frequently used to describe rage and anger as it is passion and love.

During “Look What You Made Me Do,” Swift’s backup dancers perform in doll boxes dressed in outfits inspired by previous looks she’s worn. The moment is a direct nod to the song’s  music video , in which Swift reenacts various moments throughout her time in the public eye in an eruptive, Easter egg-filled video.

The Folklore and Evermore Era

Taylor Swift on an A-frame during the Folklore set

To make room for new material, Swift now combines two albums, Folklore and Evermore, into one set. “I was so obsessed with the  Folklore set because it seemed like Taylor was living her best life in a little remote forest cabin even though some 60,000 people were watching her,” Minocha says of watching the opening night show in Glendale, Arizona back in 2023. (A version of this home was first seen in her  2021 Grammy’s performance .)

Thematically,  Folklore explored a fictional woodland world Swift dreamed up during quarantine, and while a cabin certainly captures that aura, the choice of an A-frame specifically is notable. Because they were relatively cheap and easy to build, the style of home grew in popularity in the United States following World War II as vacation properties—an appropriate connection given the album is centered around an escapist fantasy.

A-frames also represented a unique moment for architects who, with little financial consequences at stake, were able to test out their more speculative creative ideations. In many ways, with lockdowns, limited promotion, and no obvious answer for how or if the music would be performed live, this is what Swift’s  Folklore era represented too: the opportunity to explore,  uninhibited . “I love that album and she really created this whole world for it,” Low adds, “Building the folklore cabin and bringing us all into that world with her was just so cool.”

Swift’s ninth album, Evermore, was positioned as a deeper exploration of the “folklorian woods,” the fictional, cottagecore-inspired place Swift used to direct her first foray into indie folk music. In the combined set, trees circle the singer on the screens behind her while Swift croons behind a moss-covered piano.

The 1989 Era

“Another thing that I loved about the stage design in general was how there are basically three different parts of it that all connected together: the main stage, the diamond stage, and the catwalk that leads to the end of the stage,” Miranda says. “She really utilizes each and every one of these sections of the stage at different times during the night.”

Though examples are abundant, a particularly creative use comes during Swift’s  1989 set, a record which won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2016. While performing “Blank Space” on the central diamond, the raised portion displays a Shelby Cobra, which Swift and backup dancers “hit” with light-up golf clubs in a live reenactment of an iconic scene from the song’s music video.

The Tortured Poet’s Department Era

Following much speculation, Swift added a brand-new set to the Eras Tour when the show began its European leg in Paris on May 9. Designed for her latest record-shattering album, The Tortured Poet’s Department (TTPD), the stage takes on a noir palette for this portion of the show. Screen projections and props include a UFO ship that beams a spotlight on the singer as well as a rolling bed-table hybrid seemingly designed to resemble a 19th-century hospital bed. “ TTPD feels like its own mini production and it is so beautifully done,” says Molly Swindall, a fan who has attended shows since the set list additions. “The entire set also has elements that feel more like her past tours. I loved all of it.”

“For a minute I knew cosmic love,” Swift sings beneath the beam of a UFO.

The Tortured Poet’s set also includes the addition of a new stage piece: an elevated box that mirrors the floor projections, giving the appearance that Swift is levitating around the stage. Some fans have endearingly describe the prop as a “ stage Roomba. ” “The Roomba is what it has been deemed; it’s a smart way to move around the stage quickly,” Swindall adds. “I haven’t seen something like that before.”

The bed recalls Swift’s “Fortnight” music video.

The set ends with a highly theatrical performance of the singer’s “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” in which the stage takes on the appearance of a vaudeville-, burlesque-style theater . Many fans linked the design to Clara Bow, a silent film star who Swift name-checks on the album. However, perhaps the most notable aspect is the simulated proscenium arch. In theater architecture, the detail marks the metaphorical plane separating performers from the audience, similar in concept to the “fourth wall.” It’s a unique addition considering the architectural detail is not possible in a stadium designed for 360-degree views—generally the only venues in which Swift performs.

Swift sings “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” at The Eras Tour in Paris.

It’s particularly impactful when considering a recurring theme on the album: Swift’s complex relationship with fame and fans . In songs like “But Daddy I Love Him” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” she sings about the pressure to please fans and her frustration with commentary about her life and decisions. The proscenium could represent a metaphorical separation between Swift, the performer, and Swift, the person, showcasing which version of her she believes fans are entitled to.

The Midnights Era

The non-stop show ends with cuts from Swift’s 2022 album,  Midnights,  with the stage cast in dark light, representative of both the title of the album and the end of the concert. Standing firmly in the present,  Midnights still has its roots in the past, since the album tells “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Swift explained in a  Instagram post . It’s easy to follow the way the previous two-plus hours of sonic reflection—aided through the incredible set design—brings her to where she is now. As Minocha summarizes, “I’ve been to almost all of Taylor’s past tours ,and the stage and production has always been above and beyond, but because this one explores all the eras of her career, everything is just next level.”
