About this Cruise

Imagine waking up every morning to the spectacular scenery of snow-capped mountains and filling your days with uplifting worship and powerful Bible studies. Imagine exploring the wonder of God’s creations as you spot magnificent glaciers and awe-inspiring wildlife like humpback whales, bald eagles and grizzly bears. I invite you to share these incredible experiences with me and the Pathway to Victory family as we cruise through majestic Alaska June 15 – 22, 2024. Over the years, I have become passionate about purposeful travel–gathering with friends and family to seek God in places that proclaim His power and glory. Fellowshipping and praying with other believers in the beauty of God’s Creation, away from the routines of our day-to-day lives. These experiences fill my heart with joy and connect me with Him in a profound way. We will chart our adventure aboard the luxurious Holland America’s Koningsdam, which will take us to charming Alaskan ports like Juneau and Ketchikan–historic destinations renowned for their scenery, delicious food, and friendly locals. And even though our trip will immerse us in an unforgettable and wild landscape, the beauty is only a faint reflection of the One who created it. I know He has so much planned for us as we seek Him together in these awe-inspiring settings. I can’t imagine a more spiritually fulfilling way to “get away” than an experience like this cruise! I encourage you to make the most of your summer by joining me in this travel opportunity. I look forward to it all: bonding with friends and family, the sights and sounds of Alaska, and the opportunity to study God’s Word together. I promise the experience will draw you closer to Him than ever before.

Alaska Christian Cruise/Retreat – 2024 with the Slamps & the Mark Dubbeld Family

Alaska Christian Cruise/Retreat 2024

Alaska is way at the top of peoples’ travel wishes. Here is your answer to attend a Christian Cruise at sea AND enjoy Alaska at the same time. David and Kathy Slamp will host the cruise and lead devotional services at four times throughout the week. The Dubbeld Singing Gospel Family from Virginia will lead worship. This is an absolute winning combination.

About David and Kathy Slamp

David and Kathy Slamp reside in Vancouver, WA. David is a retired pastor and university professor. David pastored churches in four states and taught at two Christian universities. In 2011 David retired from “full-time” ministry, and he and Kathy volunteered to serve one semester teaching in an African Bible College. That one semester changed drastically. From 2012 to 2022 David and Kathy visited 18 different African countries as volunteers. In these countries David taught over 5,000 Africans in leadership and Christian community. Both David and Kathy spoke for many different groups throughout Africa. Their African adventures were all unexpected blessings beyond human imagination.

While David was teaching in Christian universities, he began taking students to Israel on pilgrimages. He and Kathy continue to lead these pilgrimages; they will lead their 12th in Sept. 2023. And, because of his experiences in the Middle East, David speaks on major cruise lines about the Holy Land, Turkey, and Southern Europe. Please visit our invitation to Israel Pilgrimage 2023!

Kathy served for many years in public education for many years, teaching everything from Kindergarten to College as well as serving as Master Teacher and High School assistant principal. In 2001 she left public education and created and began Vessel Ministries, Inc. Please visit Kathy’s Speaking Website: Vessel Ministries, Inc.

Through Vessel Ministries Kathy traveled globally as a Christian conference and retreat speaker. During those years, she spoke to audiences in 45 states as well as several foreign countries. During those same years, she spent her summers on cruise ships in Alaska where she served as the ship’s Naturalist and Alaska Expert. Since 2001 Kathy has served in this capacity on over 160 Alaskan cruises, working for major cruise lines such as Princess, Celebrity, and Viking. What is a Christian Fellowship Package?

Have you been on a vacation that was not a blessing because you did not travel with other Christians? This list of Christian Packages is simply a means for you to enjoy the friendship, Bible study, and encouragement that you gain when traveling with people of like mind and faith. Many group leaders offer study tours and private group packages as well.

Reserve your tour at least 6 months in advance for an Early Booking Discount

Groups and parties of 6 or more click here for special rates, scheduled tours, christian tours: frequently asked questions.

Are there opportunities for spiritual enrichment and worship during the tours?

Yes, there will be opportunities for spiritual enrichment and worship during our Christian tours. You’ll get to visit and learn about sites that played a key role in the stories of the Bible and Christian history. These experiences also give you a chance to learn more about the world and the different cultures that have shaped it.

What type of accommodations can I expect during the tours?

Most of the tours we offer are all-inclusive, which means airfare, lodging, and most meals are included in the price of your tour. This includes everything from Ireland tours to cruises and tours of Alaska. You can find individual itineraries and tour details for each of our tour packages on our website, and you can contact us if you have any questions.

What safety measures are in place for travelers?

We can’t guarantee your safety, but we do take traveler safety seriously. Safety is a top priority with all of our Christian travel groups. We work with destination management companies who prioritize/commit to safety, and we’ve built strong relationships that allow us to provide an incredible experience whether you book one of our Europe or U.S. tours .

Are meals provided during the tours? Are dietary restrictions accommodated?

We provide meals and other accommodations during most of our tours, but you should check the details on our website before booking your tour. Hotels may also provide various options that can accommodate different types of diets, allergies, and other restrictions.

Can I customize my tour itinerary to include specific religious sites or activities?

We offer several Christian tours, so you can choose the tour that piques your interest. Some of our tours — including Italy and Greece tours and cruises —include optional activities and visits to religious sites. You can decide which sites you want to visit and spend your time relaxing on the shore or cruise ship when you’re not busy sightseeing. We do offer pre-nights or post-nights before and after our tours for those that want to take some time to rest, relax or get caught up on jet lag.

What is the group size for these tours?

Group sizes are typically between 25 and 35 people, although group sizes can vary. Some tour groups may be as large as 40–45 people, but it depends on the tour and the group leader. We try to maintain reasonably sized tour groups for our Christian vacations.

How far in advance should I book my Christian tour?

The sooner you book, the better. Our tour groups can fill up fast, but we do our best to give everyone a chance to visit other countries and learn about early Christian history throughout the world. Many of our tours offer an early reservation discount if you sign up for a tour 6+ months in advance. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to have a valid passport — and visa if required — before departing.

Do I need travel insurance for these Christian tours? Is it included in the package?

We strongly recommend purchasing a travel insurance plan — whether you’re booking one of our Christian Alaska cruises or a trip to Europe. Travel insurance charges can be added to your final bill, but they’re not included in your tour package. We can provide a total approximate cost for travel insurance when you book your tour.

Are there any extra fees or expenses not included in the tour package?

We do our best to offer tour pricing that includes as much as possible. You’ll need to pay a $300 (USD) deposit per person to book one of our Christian tours, $100 of which is non-refundable at time of deposit. However, most of our Christian travel packages include lodging, food, and all the other accommodations you’ll need during your trip. From Costa Rica tours to Alaska cruises, we offer a luxurious and enriching experience.

What is the cancellation policy for these tours?

You must notify Pilgrim Tours of your cancellation 91+ days before your departure date for a refund of your deposit minus service fees. Canceling on shorter notice will result in a smaller refund, and you won’t receive any refund if you notify us of your cancellation 7 days or fewer before your departure.

Can I extend my stay at any of the destinations beyond the tour dates?

Our Christian tours follow a specific itinerary, so you’ll need to stick with the tour group throughout the tour. During some of our tours, we’ll even travel to different countries and meet new tour guides throughout the trip. Travelers do have the option to book extra hotel nights either before the tour or after the tour.

Do you provide transportation between destinations?

We provide transportation for all of our Christian tours, from US to Germany tours . While transportation costs are included in the price of your tour, tips to guides and drivers aren’t covered.

What should I pack for the tour? Are there any specific clothing or items recommended?

You should pack appropriate clothing for the destination you’re visiting. Consider the culture you’re immersing yourself in and dress modestly according to cultural norms. You should also pack a phone charger, personal care products, medicine, and anything else you typically bring on a vacation.

A New Agreement Would Limit Cruise Passengers in Alaska's Capital. A Critic Says It Falls Short

(AP Photo/Becky Bohrer, File)

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A new agreement between Alaska ’s capital city and major cruise lines seeks to cap the daily number of cruise ship passengers arriving in Juneau starting in 2026, though a prominent critic of the cruise industry said Tuesday the planned limits do not do enough.

The agreement, finalized late last week, seeks a daily limit of 16,000 cruise passengers Sundays through Fridays and 12,000 on Saturdays. However, officials said that doesn't necessarily mean there will be that many people every day.

Cruise passengers numbers ramped up rapidly after two pandemic-stunted years, hitting a record of more than 1.6 million passengers in Juneau last year. That's caused tension between businesses that rely on tourism and residents who are fed up with increased traffic, busy trails and the hum of helicopters ferrying visitors to glaciers.

Cruise seasons also have gotten longer, with the first boat this year arriving in Juneau in early April and the last set to arrive in late October. On peak days in the past, passenger numbers have totaled about two-thirds of Juneau's population of roughly 32,000 people.

A daily limit of five large ships took effect with the current season, as part of a separate agreement signed last year.

Alexandra Pierce, Juneau’s visitor industry director, said Tuesday that the aim with the current agreement is to hold cruise passenger numbers roughly steady, in the 1.6 million range.

“The idea is that the agreement buys everybody time not only to see if it is sustainable but also to build the infrastructure that will help it feel more sustainable,” she said.

Pierce said she expects a number of projects will be completed in the next five years “that will help our current numbers feel less impactful." She cited plans for a gondola at the city-owned ski area, updates to the downtown sea walk and increased visitor capacity at the popular Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area .

The agreement, which was signed by the city manager and major cruise line executives, also calls for yearly meetings to “review lessons learned, to review and optimize the subsequent season’s operations, and align on community and industry parameters, goals, and opportunities.”

Pierce said city leaders are “trying to balance the needs of our residents, the needs of our economy, the needs of future opportunities for people to stay in our community.”

Karla Hart, a longtime critic of the industry, is skeptical of the new agreement, saying it doesn't do enough to address concerns many residents have that current tourism levels are unsustainable.

“It feels like we’re just getting led along again, and expansion will continue and more time will pass" and impacts will continue, she said.

Hart is helping push a proposed local ballot initiative that would institute “ship free Saturdays,” with no cruise ships with a capacity of at least 250 passengers allowed to stop in Juneau on Saturdays or on July 4. The signature-review process for the proposed measure is underway. If the measure is certified, it could appear on the October ballot.

Renée Limoge Reeve, vice president of government and community relations for Cruise Lines International Association Alaska, a trade group, said initiatives “remove the opportunity for collaboration and discussion, and I think that that leaves a lot to be desired."

She said the agreements with Juneau are the first such agreements the industry has signed in Alaska and underscore the cruise lines' commitment “to being good partners in the communities that we visit.” Juneau and other southeast Alaska communities are popular stops on cruises that leave from Seattle or Vancouver. The much-smaller community of Sitka also has been grappling with the debate over tourism numbers.

Reeve and Pierce also participated Tuesday in a Greater Juneau Chamber of Commerce news conference to discuss the agreement.

Agreement to limit cruise passengers in Alaska’s capital criticized as insufficient

christian cruises alaska 2024

Record of more than 1.6 million cruise ship passengers visited Juneau last year

A new agreement between Alaska’s capital city and major cruise lines seeks to cap the daily number of cruise ship passengers arriving in Juneau starting in 2026, though a prominent critic of the cruise industry said Tuesday the planned limits do not do enough.

The agreement, finalized late last week, seeks a daily limit of 16,000 cruise passengers Sundays through Fridays and 12,000 on Saturdays. However, officials said that doesn’t necessarily mean there will be that many people every day.

Cruise passengers numbers ramped up rapidly after two pandemic-stunted years, hitting a record of more than 1.6 million passengers in Juneau last year. That’s caused tension between businesses that rely on tourism and residents who are fed up with increased traffic, busy trails and the hum of helicopters ferrying visitors to glaciers.

Cruise seasons also have gotten longer, with the first boat this year arriving in Juneau in early April and the last set to arrive in late October. On peak days in the past, passenger numbers have totalled about two-thirds of Juneau’s population of roughly 32,000 people.

Pierce said she expects a number of projects will be completed in the next five years “that will help our current numbers feel less impactful.” She cited plans for a gondola at the city-owned ski area, updates to the downtown sea walk and increased visitor capacity at the popular Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area.
