This quilted MZ Wallace tote bag earned major points for having a spacious capacity without feeling bulky or weighted down when it’s packed full. Although we found this tote bag to be exceptionally lightweight, it boasts a trolley sleeve to secure the bag to a suitcase to give your shoulder a rest when needed. It also comes with a detachable shoulder strap to carry the bag as a crossbody when desired. 

This bag came highly recommended after thorough testing and the only slight inconvenience we ran into is that the tote is unstructured so if there isn’t a laptop in it, the items sag at the bottom. However, the variety of pockets help to distribute the weight, so we still think this bag is the ultimate travel companion for storing the essentials.

And when it comes to durability, you can’t beat a tote bag constructed with enough reinforcement to carry over a dozen cinder blocks.

The unstructured design of the tote means that small or heavy items with a pool at the bottom of the bag, but beach towels , jackets, or any bulkier items will fit perfectly and provide some structure to the bag.

This year, “micro mini bags are being traded for more practical oversized styles,” Noelle Sciacca , Senior Fashion Lead at The Real Real, says. “That’s because as people spend more time out and about, they need large tote bags that can carry their day-to-day necessities.” Fashion-forward brands have taken notice of the shifting landscape and are now offering bags that rethink proportions for a more elevated and practical look and feel. Citing Louis Vuitton’s Onthego carryall and Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato tote as recent examples, Sciacca tells WWD. We also see the infamous Saint Laurent ICARE tote make its rounds on A-listers like Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whitley.

Today’s totes feature unexpected details, whether it’s an abstract shape, sustainable materials, or colorful finishes. “However, this doesn’t mean you should discredit mini totes altogether,” Sciacca adds. “We normally see a lift in demand for them come the holiday season.” 

Another prominent trend is the movement with sustainable tote bags. As the season progresses, more designers are using innovative and eco-conscious materials. “ We are going to see increased interest in leather-alternative handbags that have a reduced environmental impact,” Marta Gramaccioni, Head of Buying at Luisaviaroma , says. Additionally, “Shoppers are looking to pre-owned vintage tote bags to make smart investments.” Sciacca says. “Classic styles like the Hermès Birkin or Kelly have the highest resale values of any bags on the secondhand market; both are great examples of luxury handbags that regularly sell for or above current retail prices. Adding, “Louis Vuitton’s Neverfull tote continues to be a bestselling, volume-driving style from the brand, reselling for over 80% of its original retail price, on average.”

What to Look for In the Best Designer Tote Bags

• Size: “When searching for your ideal designer tote, first identify what you will use it for,” Sciacca says. That’s because tote bags are available in different sizes, so depending on the purpose, you’ll have to think about what you’ll need to fit inside. “Are you hoping this will carry your laptop back and forth between the office and home? If so, check the listed dimensions to ensure they will fit your devices. Will this tote double as a luxe gym bag? If the answer is yes, look for a style with extra pockets to separate pre-workout and post- workout clothes , sneakers , socks, etc.,” Sciacca adds. If you’re traveling, a more oversized tote will be necessary to pack in-flight essentials and maybe even clothes for the weekend getaway.
• Material: When it comes to handbags, the materials are fundamental. Even the most beautiful totes will fall short if crafted with the wrong textures like polyester. Instead, look for sturdy, durable, soft to the touch, and easy-to-style materials like leather, Gramaccioni tells WWD. Leather stands the test of time and “holds up to everyday wear and tear,” Gramaccioni adds. Canvas is also a long-lasting and flexible fabric that can be the right choice for those who see heavy daily use.
• Color: Have you ever made an impulsive purchase because the bag you were interested in came in a color you loved, only to get home and realize it doesn’t go with your clothes? That’s why considering the color of your tote bag — especially if it’s an investment — is essential. First, take the time to go through your wardrobe and identify the colors you wear the most. “If you want this closet staple to blend in with your existing wardrobe seamlessly, opt for a neutral color that will pair well with everything like a black patent Bottega tote,” Sciacca says. “If you’re planning for your carryall to be your go-to statement piece, search for bolder colors and prints like a bright blue Balenciaga A4 tote or the Fendi Vertigo bag.”

How to Clean a Designer Tote Bag

Before cleaning any type of tote bag, empty the bag of all items and double-check the tag for washing instructions. Once you’re ready to wash, you can take a few different methods depending on what fabric your bag is made from.

• Leather tote bags: Leather handbags are fairly easy to clean if you use a mild soap made for leather and a barely damp cloth. Then, you can finish by applying a leather conditioner to help the bag remain flexible and stain-resistant. Often, at-home treatments work for leather bags; however, if you own a very expensive, delicate leather tote, we recommend taking it to a leather specialist for professional treatment.
• Suede tote bags: Suede tote bags can be the hardest to clean because oftentimes, suede can get discolored with water. So, if you want to remove any markings, use a white dry cloth and gently rub your bag to remove surface marks. If there is a stain, use a pencil eraser or cleaning eraser. 
• Canvas tote bags: When it comes to canvas, you want to start on a small area of the bag to ensure the whole thing won’t get damaged. Start with a soft washcloth and warm water: If the stain still isn’t coming out, then you can use a toothbrush and mild soap, but make sure not to scrub too hard. You can also wash it by hand with a mild detergent or another cleaning solution like talcum powder or cornstarch.
• Nylon tote bags: If your bag is nylon, you’ll clean it differently than leather or suede. Since nylon is water-resistant, gently hand-wash it with mild soap, rinse it with water, and let it air dry.

If you’re looking for the creme de la creme of luxury travel totes, you don’t get much better than Rimowa’s Never Still tote. Yes, it’s more expensive than most, but if you travel a lot, we think the timeless, durable silhouette is worth it.

Unpacked in our Rimowa Never Still review , we are massive fans of the brand’s illustrious line, with the Never Still tote featured as one of our most recommended purchases. Why we love it? Made from durable materials such as canvas and premium leather, the black, sleek silhouette is equally timeless, making it a true investment into a life in motion.

If you aren’t a frequent traveler and just want something that gets the job done without costing the earth, this Bellroy Tokyo tote is excellent value. Plus, it also makes an excellent everyday tote so you’re guaranteed to get ample use out of it.

It may not be the most fashionable travel totes on the market, but it has to be one of the most functional. Lightweight, foldable and compact, it fits effortlessly into a suitcase. The luggage sleeve makes it equally easy to roll through the airport. And the water-resistant silhouette makes it a must-have for coastal getaways and pool resorts.

Okay, so this tote isn’t turning the heads of stylists and it-girls, but we simply cannot get enough of how functional this packable carryall is. In fact, after one trip, we’re sure that we’ll never be able to travel without it again. Initially, we were attracted to how small it was once folded. And whilst we were unsure of how much we would use it on the coast, it was compact and lightweight enough to pack in anyway. 

When it came to utility on the trip, we were completely wrong. We used it most days—from laundry to groceries to wet beach towels. The large, nylon silhouette is incredibly durable and water resistant with one or two pockets, so it really does tick all the boxes. If you’re like us and usually return from vacation with more than you brought, look no further than this high-performing tote . Oh, and make the most of that lifesaving (read: back-saving) luggage sleeve.

The roomy interior is small enough to fit into the overhead compartment and the luggage sleeve makes it effortless to wheel through the airport. Our only complaint is that the nylon silhouette is less structured than other fabrics, so when it isn’t full, it tends to look a little floppy. 

Horizn Studios Shibuya: Best convertible women’s travel tote

Cuyana is our queen of elevated essentials and this one is extremely difficult to fault. Featuring zipped pockets, protective feet, a luggage sleeve and plenty of space, this travel tote is a guru in effortless overnight getaways.

In order to bring you the most objective review possible, we tried to look for faults in this overnight bag, but Cuyana made it almost impossible. As an overnight bag, this illustrious leather tote has thought over everything. From a spacious, compartmentalized interior to protective feet and a luggage sleeve, we really felt the difference sailing through the airport with this tote in tow. 

As one of the most sustainable luxury brands, Cuyana even has a recycled plastic option available for vegans and its leather option is responsibly sourced and LWG certified. If we had to find a downfall to this powerhouse travel tote , it would be that it’s slightly heavy for everyday use, but a lightweight packable tote or backpack solves that problem easily. 

Beis The Weekender: Best weekender travel tote bag

This compartmentalized, spacious tote makes for the perfect weekender bag. However, if you’re looking for something smaller to accompany your check-in luggage, you may prefer something more compact.

This is our go-to travel bag for those short weekend getaways that don’t require check in luggage. As one of our best carry-on totes, the structured silhouette is perfectly sized for overhead compartments, while still large enough to fit the essentials (including a hairdryer if that’s one of yours.)

But it’s not just the bag’s roomy interior that makes it a weekender win, it’s also the tote’s effortless organization and durable exterior. With a total of nine pockets, there’s a specific spot for every device, document and travel snack. This travel tote truly is an elevated essential. Yep, you can probably find a grocery bag for under a dollar, but it’ll never be as durable, stylish and suitable to carry all things (other than just food.)

For us, this bag wasn’t love at first sight, but it’s kind of addictive once you start using it. So much so, that now we’ve added multiple colorways to our arsenal and barely go anywhere without one, especially while traveling. 

And while we prefer a more structured (like a backpack) at the airport, we love having a tote on holiday (especially when hitting the beach or heading to a market.) The Dagne Dover Dash is incredibly lightweight and compact to pack. It’s a lot more durable than other grocery totes (we tested it with a 600-page book and watermelon and it held up well.) And we appreciate the internal pocket for all those elusive smaller essentials like keys, cards and your phone. Just be warned that it’s almost impossible to settle on just one color, so you might as well add more than one from the get go.

We know that a tote can look pretty online, but the real test is if it can survive the true wear and tear of everyday life. So we commuted, traveled, and camped on the beach to see which totes truly held up their promises and which let us down. After testing the totes over a few months to a few years, we graded them on their storage, organization, comfort , and durability . Here are the totes that performed best in our real-world testing .

With a roomy, laptop-friendly interior , an adjustable shoulder strap , zippered interior pocket , and under-$40 price tag, Baggu’s duck bag has become our go-to tote for work, school, and everything in between. The canvas is lightweight yet substantial (ideal for carrying heavy books and groceries), and the lightly structured shape keeps items organized and secure when on the go. And while tote bag straps tend to slide off of our shoulders — especially when wearing a thick winter coat — the Duck Bag’s adjustable crossbody strap stays put. Plus, because it’s made from easy-to-clean cotton , ours has withstood dozens of washes (and stood up to several stains) in the washing machine. What We Love: The vegan leather looks and feels real, and it’s generously sized. 

What We Don't Love: Given the size, it could use an interior divider to keep contents more organized.

If you’re in the market for something more polished than a canvas shopper, genuine and vegan leather totes are more durable than cotton, meaning they can hold up for decades with proper care. The only problem with leather bags, however, is that they can often feel heavy — especially for those who walk or take the subway to work. But according to InStyle Former Senior Fashion Commerce Editor Chloe Anello, that isn’t the case with Freja’s generously-sized NY Lafayette tote. 

It’s made from a lightweight vegan leather — the “best looking (and feeling) faux leather I’ve ever seen,” she says — that never feels “far too heavy” when full. It holds “everything” she needs for work, including a 16-inch laptop , various chargers, and a water bottle, and even has a double magnetic snap closure that stays put while on the move. When you consider the four interior pockets and detachable key leash (and the five luxe colorways), we think it’s a worthy splurge.

What We Don't Love: It doesn’t have a crossbody strap.

When we set out to find the very best canvas tote bag, we had very strict criteria in mind; It needed to have a structured bottom, inside pockets, long-ish straps, and some sort of closure to keep contents secure and organized. It also — we hoped — wouldn’t be exorbitantly priced, given that canvas totes are so often free. When we asked Hayley Cavagnolo, interior designer and founder of petites clothing line Hayley Bridget, about her work bag, it was clear Utility Canvas’s Mini Field Bag really couldn’t be beat. 

“It’s my go-to everyday tote. People stop me on the street to ask me about or compliment on the bag,” Cavagnolo says. Despite the “Mini” in its name, it’s the “perfect size for my laptop, lunch, and coffee mug,” she assures, while the side pockets are “super useful” for keeping essentials close at hand. It’s made in the US from durable 18-ounce cotton canvas, which is easy to clean and durable enough for heavy use. (For reference, the BAGGU Duck Bag is made from 16 ounce cotton canvas.) 

The thin, rounded straps are long enough to stay put, and the structured bottom keeps items in place, meaning you won’t have to dig around to find your wallet, credit card holder , or keys. Its one and only flaw is that it lacks a detachable crossbody strap — which is why we gave first place to the Duck Bag — but it does tick all of the other boxes.

Best Extra Large

What We Love: It holds up to 500 pounds and can last decades. Plus, it’s monogrammable.

What We Don't Love: When full, the 24-ounce cotton canvas gets heavy.

At the peak of prep, L.L. Bean’s virtually indestructible Boat & Totes were carried by just about every coastal New Englander. “My parents have been using L.L. Bean totes since before I was born,” says Gracie Wiener, who runs @ ironicboatandtote , an Instagram dedicated to ironically monogrammed Boat & Totes. “They are the most durable bags in the world, they’ll outlive all of us.” Wiener owns several, including the extra-large size, which, she recently found out on a post office run, can hold 10 medium-sized packages. 

We were excited to test the hype for ourselves and learned first-hand that all the rumors were true. We've taken it everywhere from the office to the beach to long weekend camping trips. The zipped version even gave us some security, knowing things wouldn't topple out even as we bent over to pick up our kid's fallen items off the floor.

All sizes come in two handle lengths , though Wiener prefers the longer straps for more versatile carrying and the medium size for everyday wear. But if you have some serious stuff to schlep, the extra-large , which measures 17 inches high, 19 inches wide, and 10 inches deep, can fit just about any cumbersome item. (While moving, we once fit two table lamps into the bag with room to spare.) And of course, it wouldn't be an iconic L.L. Bean tote if it weren't for their monogramming capabilities. While we do wish it came with a few more zipped compartments for keys, phones, and wallets, it hasn't been a deal-breaker for us so far.

What We Love: The durable leather can last decades.

What We Don't Love: It can feel heavy when full.

Is there a more popular tote than this Transport Tote from Madewell? After schlepping it around town, to the office, and on trips, we understood why it's amassed such a cult-like following. To start, the size is just perfect , comfortably fitting books, water bottles, and laptops without completely getting lost in a black hole. Next, the few compartments allowed us to keep our wallets, phones, headphones, and chapstick easy to grab.

“I’ve had this bag for nearly a decade now, and while I can’t say it looks brand new — it definitely looks worn in — it has held up over the year, even through a substantial amount of abuse,” says Anello of this no-frills leather tote, one of the brand’s longtime bestsellers. The zippered closure has made it excellent for travel, although it did tend to get heavy when overfilled, she notes. Using the recommended crossbody straps allowed us to shift the weight around more comfortably.

We recently had a guided tour through the Coach store, and found all the best bags and shoes worth splurging on. One of those items was this Rae tote, which immediately stood out for its superior leather , size, and design. There weren't many compartments inside, but it did come with a removable zipped pouch for you to store any creams or essentials in. The tote itself was extremely spacious as well. We were convinced you could easily stuff spare shoes, sweaters, books, laptops, and more in. Does that make it a little heavy in combination with the substantial leather? Yes, but it does have an extra long shoulder strap to spare your hands. And while we always appreciate a zip top for extra security, we recognize that would change the aesthetics of this bag. All in all, we simply fell in love with how luxurious this bag looked and felt. It will withstand the test of time and remain a classic piece to own forever.

Everlane The Italian Leather Mini Studio Bag

What We Love: It’s small yet functional, and the crossbody strap is comfortable. 

What We Don't Love: The suede lining is difficult to clean.

Similar to Madewell's Transport tote , Everlane's leather tote is basically the same thing — but mini and zip-less. This teeny bag didn't fit a ton, but for those days out when we didn't need to bring a laptop or a big water bottle, it was ideal. The tote still fit a good book and a journal, making it much more useful than a standard purse . With one inside pocket and one outside, we could easily compartmentalize our items and ensure our phones stayed within reach. And while it doesn't have a zip closure, it does have a single button to at least keep the top semi-closed. We also liked the canvas shoulder strap , as it felt durable and comfortable to use as compared to a leather strap. We realized we needed to be careful with what we put inside the bag, however, because the suede lining was not easy to clean.

Best Beach Bag

What We Love: There are straps on the exterior to carry your wide-brimmed hat.

What We Don't Love: You can't zip the bag closed.

We've brought many tote bags to the beach so far, but none have been as perfectly designed for the ocean like this one from Weezie. The exterior is made of terrycloth fabric , not unlike your beach towel, while the interior features an easy-to-clean, wipeable polyester fabric, so we never had to worry much about spills ruining the bag.

Most notably, there were straps to carry our beach hat on the exterior (!!). As hat girlies ourselves, we can't express how convenient it was not to have to distort our hats and stuff them into our bags when we didn't want to wear them. It completely changed the game in traveling with hats. And of course, there was plenty of room in this tote for towels, water bottles, books, and more. Our biggest fear is losing our keys or phone at the beach, so thankfully, the zippered compartment allowed us to secure our valuables. The only con truly is that we couldn't zip the top closed, which could have added a layer of security.

Best for Travel

What We Love: There's a compartment for just about everything.

What We Don't Love: The top zip doesn't close all the way.

Two things that are always lacking during travel: time and luggage space. Beis understood this obstacle and created the perfect bag designed to save you a little bit of both. It's compartment galore in this tote -- there are pockets for your laptop , passport, water bottle, phone, and even a key-strap on the exterior zipped pocket. You won't be caught rummaging around to find your documents and papers as you're rushed through security -- everything is exactly there where you put it. On top of that, each compartment is padded , so valuables are protected from any kind of pushing and shoving as well. Add in the luggage sleeve , and it's destined to become your favorite travel companion.

Even with all these compartments, we found there was enough space to store our sweaters, books, and tsa-approved skincare. We felt comfortable being able to protect everything with the zippered closure , although we're not completely sure why it doesn't close all the way. There are still some open spaces to the left and right of the zip.

Best for Work

What We Love: The plethora of pockets make it excellent for work and travel. 

What We Don't Love: It’s expensive for a cotton tote.

We don’t own Dagne Dover’s bestselling Vida Cotton Tote, but we did test one in-store — and nearly walked out with it. It’s not cheap, but it certainly isn’t lacking in features; The tote has a total of seven pockets , two sets of straps, an interior keyring , and a neoprene water bottle holder , making it by far the most sophisticated canvas tote on this list. And while some might prefer a leather tote for work, we find canvas totes lighter and easier to maneuver when commuting, especially when taking the subway or bus. The large size can comfortably accommodate a 16-inch laptop and is spacious enough to even be used as a weekender or carry-on. (Though if you don’t have much to pack, the small will fit a 13-inch laptop.)

We were particularly impressed by the shoulder straps , which are a touch thicker and longer — and therefore easier to wear — than those on most totes, and the weight felt distributed evenly when full. Most surprising, however, was the bottom of the bag, which appeared to be treated with a dirt-resistant coating — an excellent feature for city commuters.

Best with a Zipper

What We Love: It’s roomy, lightweight, and can be packed up for easy carrying.

What We Don't Love: The straps aren’t adjustable.

The runner-up to our best travel tote, Longchamp’s long-beloved Pliage tote is a classic for a reason. It’s roomy enough to use as a carry-on (and fits perfectly under the seat in front of you, as we found out during our travels), it folds flat with both a snap and zippered closure , and even has a water-resistant lining to combat spills. Made from durable nylon and embossed leather — both of which are easy to clean — Longchamp’s totes can last decades even with everyday wear. (A friend of ours new-looking Pliage tote, we recently found out, is actually her mom’s from the ‘90s.)

The bag holds up very well, in part due to its sturdy YKK zippers : each one is finished with leather tabs to ensure longevity and seal out moisture . We did find however that the single side pocket in the interior wasn't big enough to hold the larger iPhone versions. It was only good enough for keys and credits cards. It also lacks any kind of adjustable straps. You’re stuck with two (albeit long) shoulder straps, which may or may not slide down your shoulder.

There hasn't been a trip, an office day, or a plane ride spent without this tote ever since it came into our possession. While its beautiful design and luxurious leather are big contributing factors to why, it's also its convenient size and convertibility that's made it such a hit for us. The two ends can be folded inward and clasped closed through a magnet, compressing its size and making it more friendly for daily use. The top handle and shoulder straps also offered multiple ways we could carry the bag. Laptops, notebooks, sweaters, and more fit into its big open space with ease, and any little miscellaneous items were placed in the removable pouch that came with the bag. Despite being made of substantial leather, the bag itself does not feel heavy . That being said, where there's a ton in the bag, the thin leather straps can feel like they're digging into the shoulders slightly.

With a leather handle , instead of straw, the tote looks more elevated than a traditional bag, and it will also be more comfortable to hold, especially when filled with necessities. Hand-woven in Morocco from date palm leaves, the bag is also sustainable , giving us an even better feeling about this back. We love how on top of being functional, it also looks particularly stylish. It will make a welcome addition to any vacation look. But to clean it, you need to hand wash it with the tiniest bit of vinegar and reshape it clean, which might be a pain.

What's the most durable material for a tote bag?

The durability of your bag will depend on several factors, including frequency of wear , the material, and how the bag is stored when not in use. Generally, leather and canvas are the most durable , and can withstand several years (if not decades) with proper care. Of the two, canvas totes are easier to repair should the bag become ripped, stained, or torn. 

How do you wash a tote bag?

No matter the material, it’s best to first check the care tag on your tote before washing. Most leather bags will require professional cleaning , and should not be wiped with or submerged in water. (If you’re just trying to buff out scuffs, however, you can try a leather conditioner.) Cotton and nylon totes are generally easy to care for, and can be hand-washed with a gentle detergent. Machine-drying totes is not recommended, as this can weaken the fabric and cause shrinkage.

We suggest finding a carry-on that is 20 inches or shorter to take on your international flights. And always check with your airlines.

Soft Shell vs. Hard Shell Luggage

If you’re a no-fuss kind of traveler, a soft-shell suitcase is for you. They’re able to withstand a bit more wear and tear whether you’re taking it glamping or stuffing it in the overhead compartment. On the other hand, if you are packing items that need some added protection (think: a pair of heels you don’t want to break or a beloved designer bag), we suggest going with a hard-shell suitcase so that none of your valuables sustain any damage.

Two-Wheel Luggage vs. Four-Wheel Luggage

If you have ever been down-to-the-last-second late for a flight and almost missed it because you had to drag your heavy suitcase behind you, we suggest you get a spinner suitcase. A spinner has four wheels, which tend to be multidirectional, helping you not only have full control over your bag, but also allowing you to comfortably glide your luggage alongside of you as you maneuver through security to your gate. It was tested by Traveler 's global director of audience development Lara Kramer ; she brought it on an overnight staycation in Brooklyn and a four-night stay at the hospital for the birth of her baby. “You can easily fit a long weekend’s worth of clothes (and shoes!) in this bag. And, in our case, an abundance of pajamas, towels, and home comforts—think portable fan, slippers, a sound machine, and framed photos of family and our pet cat—for a long hospital stay,” she says. There's a handy bottom compartment that can hold two to three pairs of shoes (or your dirty clothes) that also features a removable padded tray that can be washed as needed. Kramer did note that because of its generous size and ample storage, this bag can hold a lot of weight. Everlane's ReNew Transit weekender has become a go-to for Spurrell, ever since she first brought it on a weeklong trip to Egypt . “This makes a fantastic, roomy personal item to top your carry-on for a trip when you probably should check a bag but refuse to. It’s also perfect for a casual one-nighter when you just want to throw pajamas, an outfit or two, and some other essentials inside,” she says. The bag features a wider bottom than top, which is great for filling it to the brim without dealing with items spilling out in the back seat. “It’s quite comfy on the shoulders, even in sleeveless clothes with which other straps might dig in, though the padded section of the strap doesn’t sit on your shoulders unless you extend the length quite a bit (I prefer to keep the straps short so the bag sits right under my arm),” says Spurrell. Worn by Hailey Bieber the brand focuses on making realistic vegan leather purses and we can attest to the hype. "I usually prefer real leather, but Freja's leather looks so real, from the pebbled texture to the microsuede lining, that I kept forgetting it's not real," says Emily Cieslak , associate commerce editor. What to Look for in a Leather Tote Bag

• Weight : When shopping for a tote bag, weight is an important factor to consider. “Make sure the tote isn’t too heavy,” says Meknat. “As you add your essentials into the bag, it will get heavier and hard to carry."
• Use : How you will use your tote bag is also important to think about. “Consider what the bag is going to be used for. For example, if it is for traveling or work, a nicer leather tote would be ideal,” Meknat explains. “However, if you want to use it for shopping or a picnic, you might want to consider a different material such as canvas."
• Color : If you’re shopping for a tote bag for everyday use, you’ll want one that goes with anything. “Choose a neutral bag color such as black, brown, or tan, so it won’t clash with the colors of your outfits,” Meknat advises.

While leather tote bags can’t be thrown in the wash like their canvas counterparts,  caring for your bag  is fairly straightforward—so long as you are aware of what can cause damage.

For starters, Meknat says that leather can absorb oil and grease very easily, so it’s important to be mindful of where you place your bag, and avoid grabbing it if you've recently applied a product with oil in it to your hands. “If it gets wet, blot it with a dry cloth as soon as possible,” says Meknat, adding that it’s a good idea to wipe the bag every few days with a soft and slightly damp cloth to get rid of dust. “For a more deep cleaning, use a leather cleaner, or take it to a professional who knows how to handle leather goods."

In addition to cleaning, conditioning the leather can also ensure that it stays in pristine shape. “You can use a leather conditioner to keep the leather soft and prevent it from cracking,” Meknat explains. 

Storage is also important when considering care. “Store your leather tote in a dry climate-controlled storage area,” Meknat suggests. “Stuff it with bubble wrap or parchment paper to keep the shape, and leave it in a dust bag when not used."

Not only do these high-end bags have room for your travel toiletry bags , but they’re also likely to last you years, if not decades—all while making your days en route feel like a true treat.

If those airline weight limits are your biggest foe, you should consider soft-sided luggage rather than hard cases, as they weigh less—meaning you can pack more. As an added bonus, Antler offers discounts on sets and bundles.
