Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness

Honest Nick made our journey through the Highlands and Loch Ness memorable. He was a font of information on Scottish history, flora, fauna, and whiskey (ice cream). The 300+ mile drive along winding roads was set to a mixtape of Scottish minstrels like Simple Minds, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and KT Tunstall. We very much appreciated Nick taking the time to check in with all travellers and explain the wheres, whens and whos. We wont soon forget our trip with Nick, Dave and Nessie.

Professional from beginning to end

Professional from beginning to end. Easy on-line booking. Friendly greeters at bus station who gave clear instructions. Clean bus. Driver, Kylie, was knowledgeable tour guide who made sure guests were well tended. Nice drive through the Scottish countryside.

Loved this Outlander Adventure day tour!

My sister and I loved everything about this Outlander locations tour! The driver/guide kept us safe, informed, on time and entertained. We also had plenty of time to discover each location on our own, outside the bus, so that our picture taking could document our memories. And the kilted guide, James (we called him Jamie ;), made it so much more fun! He modeled, at request for several of our Outlander photos. I highly recommend this tour.

3-day Isle of Skye is well worth it!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day trip to Isle of Skye. Penny, our guide, was fantastic in every way: she immediately learned everyone's names at the start of the trip, which was quite amazing. She was friendly, humorous, knowledgeable, flexible, and very accommodating to our group's interests and requests, and often gave us options of what to see and do. Penny was also a great driver and shared a wealth of historical facts, as well as interesting stories. With such a wonderful tour guide and unusually pleasant weather, our tour could not have been better! Scott & Robin

Lovely tour run by a great company

The tour was incredible. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, Our guide was knowledgable and funny, and everything was organized well. Definitely the best tour company I used while traveling in Scotland. I only wish the guide spoke more to the flora and fauna instead of just history and pop culture. The main attraction of the highlands is the beauty of the nature, so I would have liked to hear more about it.

Loch Ness, Inverness & the Highlands - 2 day tour

Just did the Loch Ness, Inverness & the Highlands - 2 day tour with Willie. We were a group of 8 visiting from Canada. Had a fabulous tour! Willie was very informative, witty and accommodating. Great choice of music too. Highly recommend! Thank you very much Willie!

Highland adventure

Our driver, Jim Divine, was fantastic and really made the trip. The only negative of the trip was the Chieftain Hotel that Rabbies booked us in for our first night. that hotel was terrible, holes in walls, very old and worn feel, no wifi in the room. Overall a bad hotel to start the trip, but luckily from there the hotels got better. The scenery was beautiful and our driver's Scotland knowledge and demeanor was great!

Gregor was a wonderful guide and very…

Gregor was a wonderful guide and very helpful with small requests ( taking pics etc) the tour covered what we wanted to see and although the weather didn’t cooperate we had a great time! Also Mark our driver was excellent!

west highlands 1 day tour

The tour was great! Amazing scenery, fantastic views en our guide Jim Scot was entertaining with a mixture of historic facts and a personal touch of humour and his passion photography of the highlands. There were enough sanitary breaks and time enough to eat. 1 remark: the village of Luss was nothing special. But I understand the tour has to stop at a famous loch (loch Lomond in this case). perhaps there are no other options...but we had a great time and will book a rabbies tour again in the future when we return. We've done the 3 day Isle of Skye 7 years ago.

Pretty good, but could be tweaked to be awesome!

The trip was great overall, but it was definitely a lot of driving/van time packed into the 7 days. The tour is broken into two separate groups and you swap on day 5 - the first half of the trip was significantly better than the first with a lot more scenic stops and things to do. I would recommend the 5 day trip around Dingle/Ring of Kerry, but not so much the 3 day portion around Waterford/Kilkenny. The first half of the trip we had a great guide who always had a fantastic story to tell! The second half of the trip we had a newer guide who wasn't as familiar with the roads and kept getting lost/not stopping at many scenic viewpoints. I still had a great time, but do feel like there could be some improvements overall!

Dunnottar & Royal Deeside, a perfect combination!

Enjoyed the history of Dunnottar & the Ancient Forest , plus the peacefulness of Balmoral . ( we had the option to choose between Braemar & Balmoral) Our guide Jim was great ! We would prefer to have music by Scottish artists or Celtic music played on the bus.. Overall a great experience !

Great trip! We were fortunate in the weather, which allowed us to reach both Iona and Staffa, highlights of the trip (Fingal’s Cave and the puffins on Staffa were a special delight). Alastair fully carried out both halves of the description “driver-guide.” He managed the challenging single-track roads of Mull with seeming ease, while dispensing information and keeping his good humor. He also provided a variety of musical selections related to the areas we drove through, a fun soundtrack to our experience!

Amazing trip

Our 3-day tour to Lewis and Harris with Kev was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed gorgeous views under a 20 degree sun. Kev arranged a surprise stop that delighted us all on the last day. He was friendly, funny and knowledgeable, not to mention his great driving skills. 100% would recommend.

Outlander tour is a must for fans.

My cousin is on holiday from Canada. I booked this tour for her as I know she loves Outlander. She thoroughly enjoyed the tour, her guide/ driver was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed the experience so much, I have booked her on another tour next week to Oban/Fort William/Glencoe.

Dedicated tour team!

Although I was super travel sick from the windy roads, guide Niles and driver Mark made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I liked the mix of history and storytelling and thought Stirling Castle was picturesque. One thing I would say, Loch Lomond was underwhelming, at least from where we stopped and you don’t really get to see the highlands so if that is what you are hoping for, pick another Rabbies tour!

Informative, fun, and highly hospitable

Michael, the tour guide, was supremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. He did an excellent job at anticipating the needs of guests. You can tell he loves what he does and his country. He made the tour a true delight.

North Coast 500

We have toured all over Scotland but the NC 500 was the best tour yet, taking in lochs, castles, beaches & incredibly picturesque scenery. We couldn't have hoped for better weather or a better driver/guide than Scott.

Our Rabbie's tour to Loch Lomond

Our Rabbie's tour to Loch Lomond, the Kelpies and Stirling Castle was outstanding. Our guide, Gregor, was delightful, knowledgeable and entertaining. He was clearly proud to be a Scot and we enjoyed every minute of the tour. We would highly recommend Rabbie's to anyone and can't wait to experience another tour sometime in the future.

Loved this three-day tour of Skye

Loved this three-day tour of Skye! Our driver guide (if I remember correctly, it was Trevor) did a fantastic job of storytelling and sharing his love and pride of Scotland. The bus itself was comfortable and I so appreciated the air conditioning during these muggy, warm days. Accommodations arranged by Rabbie's were also much appreciated. Thank you to the Rabbie's team for making my first-ever Rabbie's tour and my first-ever visit to Scotland a memorable one! :)

Graham is amazing

Graham is super considerate, provided wonderful advice, and sooooo funny at the same time. Had an amazing time under his care! Fair pace for sight seeing in general, whist through Oxford a bit but still able to attend a 60 mins Christ Church College guide tour, panorama city view from St Mary’s tower, and a short break for tea.

Reviews of Rabbie's Tours Tours

This Tour was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone and our Guide and Driver John was extremely informative regarding the History of the area.
Neil was an excellent tour director/driver. His local knowledge as we passed thru villages was very helpful in understanding how Wales 'works'. I liked the late start in the mornings-9a.m., and the fact that we stayed for 2 nights in 2 locations. I would have liked the opportunity to walk in Snowdoniia
The entire tour was amazing. I really enjoyed everything about the experience.

Customer

Just returned from a fanstastic and rich experience in moscow, the Golden cities and St. Petersbrg. We felt taken care of as if we were royalty! our guides were extremely knowledgable and so we learned so much and gained such an appciation for the people, the struggles and the country. Witout the guide and driver, we would have just appreciated the architecture but learned nothing. You helped at every turn - this could not have been a better experience and we cannot thank you enough.

I just want to inform you that we have completed our trip to Russia. We really enjoyed the arrangement you have made for us, from the airport transfer, picking up our Bolshoi tickets, the hotel in Moscow, and of course the Golden Ring tour itself. Our tour guide, Irina, provided us with a lot of information on the buildings and history, which make our following visits to Moscow+St. Petersburg more rewarding. Thanks again for making our visit to Russia a wonderful one.

The Golden Ring of Russia

The Golden Ring is a group of medieval towns and cities that form a ring to the northeast of Moscow. These towns played a significant role in early Russian history and in the formation of the Russian Orthodox Church. The towns are full of ancient Russian architecture from the Middle Ages including kremlins (walled fortresses), monasteries, cathedrals and churches. Visiting the Golden Ring will give you a chance to go back in time and imagine a Russia that used to be. The cities are associated with Russian Princes and knights, early Tsars such as Ivan the Terrible, the Mongol invasions and many other historical figures and events. Listening to the history and legends told by your experienced guide will evoke memories of storybooks and fairy tales. The towns of the Golden Ring are all in the Russian countryside which is beautiful – full of forests and fields and rivers and lakes. Apart from the Golden Ring, we also offer tours to the Silver Ring of Russia. These tours include such famous towns as Veliky Novgorod and Pskov. Your time in these ancient areas will be a great break from the bustle of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Walk along ancient Kremlin walls and see the onion domes rising from cathedrals where time has stopped, or follow paths along old riverbanks – travel back in time with our Golden Ring tours. An unforgettable adventure awaits.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

How far are the golden ring cities from moscow.

The Golden Ring cities are located within 2-4 hours drive of Moscow. The distance by road between Moscow and Suzdal is 219 km (3-4 hours drive), between Moscow and Sergiev Posad – 73 km, nearly a 2 hour drive. However, the distance between the cities of Golden Ring is rather short: e.g. between Vladimir and Suzdal it’s only 37 km.

Which cities of Golden Ring are worth visiting?

The following cities are the most well-known and attract the most attention: Suzdal, Vladimir and Sergiev Posad. If you have more than 1-2 days, we recommend Yaroslavl, Rostov Veliky and Kostroma.

Why do people call this group of cities the “Golden Ring”?

The cities of the Golden Ring, located northwest of Moscow, are spread out in a ring shape. The term was created in 1967 by historian and journalist Yuri Bychkov who wrote travel articles under the name “Golden Ring” because his route took the shape of a ring as he travelled through these cities.

How to get to the Golden Ring cities of Russia?

You can travel by train from Moscow to Vladimir, Sergiev Posad, Kostroma, Rostov Veliky and Yaroslavl. Alternatively, you can order a private tour and go by car with a private driver

What can I do while visiting the Golden Ring cities and towns?

Golden Ring cities and towns are very different from Moscow and St Petersburg. Instead of visiting art museums and ballet performances, you can enjoy exploring local Kremlins and fortresses, ancient churches and monasteries, listening to the church bells ringing, enjoying local foods and drinks, visiting banyas, spending time in pristine nature, and strolling along the Volga river.

About Rabbie's

We love travel as much as you do.

We prefer it to any roller-coaster, movie, or concert.

But there are a few things we don’t always love about travel.

Like when you get stranded on a dark single track road. Or end up at a large hotel that only serves frozen food. Or when you see something incredible, and have no way of finding out what it is.

So, our award-winning small-group tours take care of details and ensure you and your driver-guide’s adventures are free from the things that make travel less lovable. Whether travelling overseas to Europe or staying closer to home with Scotland , England , Wales or Ireland tours , we do the planning so you can enjoy the experience.

Here’s how we deliver travel experiences you’ll love:

You learn from the best storytellers in the world . And this is no overstatement. Our driver-guides are world famous for their knowledge, facts, quirky stories, history, and fairy-tales. They truly take you beyond the guide books and into your adventure.

You explore in top of the range 16 seat mini-coaches. This means you never get lost, you always take the scenic route, you have great views through large windows, and you’re free to sample the local tipple without worrying about driving.

You support the local communities. You do this because we take you to the lesser known attractions and recommend locally owned accommodation. What’s more, for every ton of carbon we use, we donate £10 to environmental and community projects.

Guaranteed departures: you book, you go. When you choose to book with us, you’re going - no minimum numbers.

Guaranteed experience or your money back. If you feel you’ve not had the experience you deserved, and we’re at fault, we’ll give you your money back.

So, take a tour with us and learn to love travel even more than you thought you could.

Why we only travel in small groups

We’re going to be honest with you.

A long time ago we tried larger coaches.

In theory, it would have been good for our bank accounts.

But in the end, we stopped using them because of three simple reasons.

Firstly, we received worse customer feedback. It turned out you guys preferred mini-coaches and didn’t appreciate trampling over a peaceful forest with 20, 30 or 40 other people.

Secondly, we found it harder to give back to the local communities. It’s not as easy to stop at that local bakery when you need to bring 30 other friends with you.

And thirdly, the big buses made it hard to go down the small roads that lead to your favourite hidden-away local treasures.

So, we went back to our 16-seat mini-coaches.

And we won’t ever go back to big ones. Because we’re never going to value anything more than your enjoyment, our environment, and the world’s best kept secrets.

Choosing responsible travel

Responsible travel is so much more for us than a box-ticking exercise. We truly want to make the world a better place through travel. That includes doing as much as we can to help preserve the places we visit for future generations to enjoy. To put these thoughts into action, we have initiatives to help make our vision a reality. By committing to small mini-coaches, donating our carbon tax and volunteering through our ‘ We Care About There ’ project, we’re making a commitment for change.

How we started

Robin Worsnop started our tour company in 1993.

All he had was an old sherpa van and a few people telling him it would never work.

Robin likes to think he started the company because he ‘saw a gap in the market’, ‘wanted to create an ethical way to travel’, and ‘knew what independent travellers wanted’.

But we know the truth.

He simply wanted to spend his time travelling around gorgeous places, discovering his homeland, and enjoying a dram with friendly faces from around the globe.

And he could have carried on doing this forever.

But there was a gap in the market; he had created an ethical way to travel, and he showed people a really, really good time.

So, people started to talk about Robin’s quirky tours.

Robin had to hire more people, buy more mini-coaches, start working with spreadsheets, and concentrate on building the company, so more people could live his dream.

And now we have award-winning small-group tours departing from all over the UK & Ireland.

Sadly, Robin is too busy to see all these gorgeous places as much as our guides. But he’s happy others are now getting to see the places he loved in the way he loved seeing them.

Throughout his journey, Robin has been guided by his vision to the make the world a better place through travel.

Award-winning travel company

Becoming an award-winning travel company is a huge honour to us. We have been very fortunate over the last decade to have won a range of travel awards including:

  • Queen’s Award - for enterprise in International Trade
  • Silver Green Apple Award
  • British Travel Awards 2019 - Best Escorted Tours Holiday Company
  • Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice 2018
  • Silver Thistle Award 2016
  • Business in the Community (BITC) SME of the Year 2016

We always strive to deliver great experiences, so it is wonderful to know that the hard work and dedication to providing customers with the best UK and Europe tours is being recognised.
