I’m not sure why this app has such mediocre reviews- it is SO HELPFUL. First of all, it is very easy to use (at least on my iPhone). The layout is simple and I was able to easily find my booking here, even though I booked through a different site. They also give a timeline of when you should get to the airport, check in, etc and offer transportation options. The mobile/online check in and boarding passes make everything so simple. I wish every airline had an app like this!
First time I am dealing with Wizz Air, but it looks like the company is trying very hard to discourage me from flying with them. I guess they don't need any money. My first disappointment came when I have tried to book a trip on the website. The website kept arbitrary changing my travel dates and didn't let me choose the dates I have wanted, even though according to third party websites there were available flights on that date. Then I thought I will try it on this app. In order to do that one needs to register. I have filled out the registration form but it wants me to confirm my email address. However the confirmation email doesn't come. I have double checked my email and my junk folders but there's nothing. This is the worst outfit I have ever dealt with.
No Apple Pay in this the year 2023 AD. Date selector doesn't allow you to pick a date in the future when selecting the passport issue date but the date selector prompts you left to right to select the day, month, year. So it ends up spinning around to a date you did not select if your issue date day or month as later than the current date. It’s also unclear if you are required to scan your passport with your camera or if it’s simply a tool you can optionally use. We’ve all been there trying to scan a passport with your phone, trying to get the lighting right, keep all your fingers out of they way. Such a struggle.

8 Tips for Flying Wizz Air

' height=

See recent posts by Peter Thornton

Flying within Europe? You’ll likely come across some incredibly cheap flights on Wizz Air—especially if you’re flying to/from Eastern Europe. Based in Budapest, the airline, along with its subsidiaries Wizz Air UK and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, flies to over 160 airports around Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

While the airfares on Wizz Air are often shockingly low, you’ll want to know what you’re getting into before you get too excited about that €10 ticket. Much like Spirit and Frontier in the U.S. and Ryanair in Europe, Wizz Air is an ultra-low-cost carrier that adds fees for just about everything. Follow these tips to have the best experience and learn how to take advantage of its cheap flights without paying exorbitant fees.

Pay for Bags in Advance

Man walking down glass hallway in airport while wearing a backpack

Don’t be tricked by the terminology used by Wizz Air for what baggage is included in your ticket. Wizz Air only includes one small “carry-on” bag that does not exceed 40 x 30 x 20 cm and 10kg in the initial ticket price. This is similar in size to what U.S. airlines consider a “personal item” that fits under the seat. If you have a larger carry-on bag or checked luggage, you’ll want to pay for it during booking for the best prices.

Baggage fees vary depending on weight, season, and where you purchase. Any excess weight or baggage fees paid at the airport are considerably higher than if you were to book in advance. The fees are actually somewhat reasonable if you pay for your bags during booking. Sure, it may be double the airfare but your total cost could still be much cheaper than flying other airlines.

Purchase Wizz Priority

If you want to bring a larger bag onboard the aircraft and avoid checking luggage, you’ll need to purchase Wizz Priority . This allows you to bring a “trolley bag” onboard, which is similar to a normal sized carry-on bag allowed by U.S. airlines. The trolley bag is in addition to the smaller carry-on bag included in your ticket and can be up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 10kg.

Wizz Priority also includes priority check-in and priority boarding. The fee varies between €5-40 according to the website. For the flights I recently purchased, it was around €15 per flight which was cheaper than any checked bag fees and well worth it. I got the feeling that Wizz Priority passengers were less scrutinized on the size/weight of their luggage. Technically, my bags may have been too large or too heavy but I was never asked to weigh or size my bags.

Of course, there is no guarantee that you won’t have your bags weighed or sized but there’s much less of a chance if you avoid the check-in counter all together. During boarding, agents are more interested in getting the flight off on time than checking the size of your bag—especially for priority passengers boarding first.

Compare Bundles

If you do have checked luggage, you’ll want to compare the bundles offered to simply purchasing all of the extras you need a la carte. Wizz Go includes a trolley bag, 20kg of checked luggage, seat selection, free airport check-in, priority boarding, and priority check-in. This can be a good choice for flyers who travel with multiple bags and wish to choose seats. Otherwise, you may be able to pay less by paying for just a checked bag or seat selection separately.

Wizz Plus includes premium seat selection, Wizz Flex, and 32kg of checked luggage in addition to all of the extras included with Wizz Go. This is the best option if you want an all-inclusive experience without worrying about extra fees to change your flight or receive a travel credit if plans change and you can’t fly. Still, if you don’t think you’ll use all of the extras included, it may be cheaper to just purchase what you need a la carte. Since prices vary, you’ll need to compare for each booking.

Plan to Sit Apart or Pay Extra (Unless Traveling with Children)

Family sitting together on airplane

One of the most annoying fees that has become commonplace in the airline industry is the fee to choose a seat assignment. If you’re traveling with a companion, you won’t be guaranteed seats next to each other when flying Wizz Air unless you pay extra. The seat selection page makes it seem like you have no choice but to pay extra for seat assignments by auto-selecting recommended seats.

If you want to take your chances and have seats auto-assigned at check-in for free, you’ll need to select the “choose seats later” option. If you’re traveling with two adults, you’ll be given a pop-up with an option to pay €12 for a “ sitting together ” add-on. This doesn’t allow you to choose specific seats but guarantees you’ll at least get seats together. If you don’t want to pay, make sure to click “No, thanks”.

Children under 14 years of age will be auto-assigned a seat next to at least one accompanying adult so you don’t have to pay extra to guarantee a seat next to your child.

Download the App

One of the best tips I can give for flying Wizz Air is to download its mobile app . This will make the check-in process, boarding, and verifying documents much easier. You can easily take photos of your COVID-19 vaccine and testing documents and upload them to your reservation via the app, which is required for most flights these days. And with the app, you don’t need to worry about paying extra to check in at the airport since you can get a mobile boarding pass right on the app.

Related: 5 Apps You Need for COVID-19 Travel

Check-In Online

If you don’t have the app, you’ll want to make sure that you check-in online at least 3 hours before scheduled departure time. After that cutoff, you may be forced to check-in at the airport and pay a fee to do so. If you didn’t purchase a seat assignment, you can check-in starting 48 hours before departure. If you paid extra for a seat, online check-in is available 30 days before departure.

For airports that don’t allow online or mobile check-in, you’ll be able to check-in at the airport free of charge. To be sure, it’s always a good idea to attempt online check-in first.

Be At the Gate on Time

Empty terminal at airport

Wizz Air’s business model is all about reducing the amount of time an airplane sits on the ground between flights. For this reason, it is imperative that you are at your departure gate no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time as Wizz Air is very strict on this cut-off time.

You’ll often need to board a bus which brings you to the airplane. This means that boarding closes earlier than you may be used to when flying on other airlines that primarily have jet bridge gate access. Give yourself extra time to make it to your gate. There is no reason to add stress by running late.

Become a Member

Lastly, consider signing up for the Wizz Discount Club . Standard membership allows the member to receive benefits and is only €29.99/year. Group membership gives benefits to the member and up to five companions for €69.99/year. Benefits include €10 off all fares that are at least €19.99 and €5 off checked bag fees for 20kg or 32kg bags. Simple math will tell you that the membership can pay for itself after just three flights and even fewer if you have checked bags.

I decided to pay for the membership for two flights I recently purchased since it saved me €20 off the bat. Chances are that I’ll be flying within Europe again sometime in the next year and the membership will pay for itself. If you plan to take multiple flights in Europe, a membership may make sense— specially if you travel with heavier checked luggage.

Frequently asked questions

These are some of most common questions about Wizz Air.

Yes, both crew members and passengers are required to wear face masks on board. Wizz Air disinfect their aircraft on a daily basis to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

Wizz Air Holdings plc is the parent company of Wizz Air Hungary Ltd. They are based in Jersey, they're listed on the London Stock Exchange, and they make up part of the FTSE 250 Index. The current CEO is József Váradi.

  • Aircraft – Wizz Air – We can’t deny that the A320neos are a nicer plane to fly on and easily take on the older Boeing 737-800. And with Ryanair doubling down on the Boeing 737 MAX for their future fleet, it does leave us wishing they had a bit more diversity.
  • Seats – Ryanair – Bigger legroom and more comfortable seats go a long way, especially if you are flying a long way too!
  • Baggage – Depends on how much baggage you have and how far the route is. Wizz Air might be cheaper if you have a lot of baggage or a short flight, and Ryanair offers the most consistent prices.
  • Food – Ryanair – Ryanair easily wins with their bigger range, although they are a bit more expensive.

Yes, you can change the flight and name of the passenger up to 4 hours before the departure, however, there is a fee that will be charged.

I flew on Europe's 3 biggest budget airlines: easyJet, Ryanair, and Wizz. The best wasn't the cheapest, but its friendly staff made all the difference.

  • I flew with Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz in a two-day trip to compare Europe's main budget airlines.
  • Ryanair's small carry-on size and efforts to maximize profits were irritating.
  • EasyJet's cabin crew were perhaps the friendliest I've ever encountered.

Insider Today

Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz are Europe's three biggest budget airlines, but the experiences can be quite different.

If you're planning a vacation soon, you might find the prices are similar — or have found a great deal with Ryanair .

Last month, to compare the three airlines, I flew from London to Madrid with Ryanair, then on to Rome with Wizz , and back home with easyJet.

Ryanair's base price was $44, but I chose a seat and also upgraded from its restrictive carry-on size to make it $83. The easyJet flight cost around $76, and Wizz was $59. Of course, prices can vary wildly depending on demand. I've seen Ryanair tickets as low as $18 and as high as $250.

After my trip, I think the biggest difference was with the staff. EasyJet's flight attendants were friendlier than most I've encountered flying economy with legacy airlines.

The British budget carrier also seems to have the most respect for its customers because it doesn't have as many additional fees as Ryanair and Wizz.

I took three flights in two days to compare Europe's three main budget airlines. They were all around two-and-a-half hours long.

I was most impressed by easyjet thanks to its friendly flight attendants, and least liked ryanair because it felt like the airline tries to squeeze out as much extra money as possible..

wizz travel

Booking the flights, easyJet was helpfully straightforward. There weren't any surprise pop-ups and every stage was clear.

wizz travel

There wasn't too much to complain about in the Ryanair booking process, but it definitely took longer with a couple of pop-ups and a range of addons to click through. It had the cheapest base price at £35 ($44) without extras, but I paid £8 ($10) to choose a seat.

wizz travel

The booking process at Wizz Air was irritating. To avoid signing up for its "Discount Club," you have to scroll down and click some tiny text. I missed this the first time and had to start all over again.

wizz travel

The button to agree to sign up was the same design and in the same place as the skip button for every other page. I didn't realize this until I noticed the membership fee at checkout.

Wizz is also the only one of the three that doesn't take American Express, which can be disappointing if you want to maximize your rewards points.

Since budget airlines have restrictive baggage rules — and it was a one-night trip — I only traveled with my trusty tartan rucksack. The night before my first flight, I checked its size against the airlines' limits.

wizz travel

Since my bag's laid flat, it measured an inch or two wider than after I'd packed.

EasyJet's app has a nifty augmented-reality tool which means you don't need a measuring tape for its size limit — the largest of the three at 45 x 36 x 20cm.

wizz travel

This matched up at the airport's sizer. I couldn't find one for Wizz, but its limit is slightly smaller at 40 x 30 x 20cm.

wizz travel

But I was disappointed to see just how tiny Ryanair's limit is: 40 x 20 x 25cm. My bag still squeezed into the sizer, but I'd already paid an extra £24 ($30) because I wanted to ensure I wouldn't face a fine of up to 70 euros ($75).

wizz travel

Ryanair's free carry-on size is also smaller than US budget carriers like Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant, and Southwest.

However, when boarding, the staff didn't seem to care how big anyone's bag was — and some looked much larger than mine. I didn't risk it because Business Insider paid for the flights, so being stuck with a fine would be hard to explain to my boss.

All three airlines charge extra for checked luggage, and the prices vary by route and season. EasyJet starts at $8.75, Wizz starts at $9.15, and Ryanair starts at $12.90.

wizz travel

EasyJet doesn't say what its prices could go up to. For Wizz, a 20kg bag could be as much as $93, and on Ryanair it could be as much as $75.

If you have a large suitcase and you're visiting several cities on vacation, you might find it cheaper to travel around Europe via train. Of course, this varies route by route, but it's worth looking into.

I rode on one of Europe's fastest high-speed trains in first class from Amsterdam to Paris for $160. It easily beat flying.

Fortunately, all of my flights were on time. However, a 2022 analysis of data from the British aviation regulator found Wizz had the longest average delay at 44 minutes.

wizz travel

Wizz was named the worst short-haul airline in a survey published in February by Which?, a British consumer advocacy group. It said 44% of passengers reported some kind of problem.

I've heard bad stories from friends about Wizz cancellations. Last summer, my roommate had his flight home canceled twice, and it took him several attempts to get his money back.

With Wizz and easyJet, I boarded via a jet bridge, whereas Ryanair has steps built into its planes to save time between flights, and minimize costs.

wizz travel

I tracked the Boeing 737-800 on Flightradar24 and saw that boarding opened at my gate almost as soon as it touched down at London Stansted Airport, leaving the crew with little time between trips.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the three flights was the friendliness of the cabin crew. There was no hello when I boarded Ryanair; Wizz greeted most passengers; and easyJet said a grinning hello to everybody.

wizz travel

After boarding the Ryanair flight, I was somewhat flummoxed when I found my seat was in the emergency exit row, even though I paid £8 ($10) for a normal aisle seat.

wizz travel

Of course, this would usually be a benefit, but it hampered my ability to compare like-for-like. Also, it suggests people could spend extra to choose row 18 but end up with a normal amount of legroom.

A Ryanair spokesperson said this happened because after I booked, the aircraft was changed from a 737 Max to a 737-800, "due to operational reasons."

I also thought the Ryanair interior was ugly, with its garish color scheme and ads on the overhead lockers.

wizz travel

The easyJet Airbus A319 I flew on was 13 years old, so the interior looked dated, although I thought the seats' moquette pattern was fun without being overbearing.

wizz travel

Wizz Air had the most modern plane of the bunch, a 14-month-old Airbus A321neo fitted in its latest interior with blue leather seats.

wizz travel

All of the airlines are no-frills so there were no plug sockets, and none of the seats reclined. I was comfiest on board Wizz, but that might just be because its seats were more than a decade newer.

wizz travel

Ryanair maximizes its turnaround time between flights by eschewing the seat pocket so it doesn't have to be cleaned out. This can be a bit of a nuisance if you want somewhere to stow a book or water bottle.

wizz travel

However, there is something to be said in favor of that because on easyJet, both myself and a passenger in front found some trash in the pockets.

wizz travel

The Ryanair plane was indeed the cleanest. On board Wizz, I found an empty coffee cup in the bathroom — plus there wasn't any soap in the dispenser.

wizz travel

EasyJet's bathroom was pretty spacious and included its own branded bottle of soap.

wizz travel

Ryanair also had airline-branded soap — plus a custom no-smoking sign in eight different languages.

wizz travel

Video shows police hauling a Ryanair passenger off a flight after he was caught smoking in the plane's toilet

I was the least impressed by the flight attendants on board Ryanair. The food and drinks cart was one row away from me when the seatbelt sign came on, but never returned even when it went off again.

wizz travel

I didn't plan on buying food or drink — let alone scratch cards or tax-free cigarettes — but I was surprised I wasn't even given the option.

I had low expectations for Ryanair but still came away disappointed, especially after I'd flown with Wizz and easyJet the following day.

wizz travel

Looking through Ryanair's list of fees is almost exasperating.

Remember to check in on the app at least 2 hours before departure, or pay $69 at the airport. It's also $144 to change the name on your booking. Plus, there's a $69 fee if you need to reserve therapeutic oxygen for medical reasons.

Coupled with the tiny carry-on size, it feels belittling.

Wizz and easyJet don't list fees for therapeutic oxygen. The former charges up to $43 to check in at the airport while it's free with the latter.

The Wizz crew appeared to be professional and friendly and knew what they were doing. But I'm wary of its record for delays and expected the bathroom to be in a better condition.

wizz travel

Seeing the friendliness of the easyJet cabin crew made me smile after a long day of traveling. They were chatting to passengers and sharing stories about Rome during the trolley service.

wizz travel

I'd even say they were friendlier than most flight attendants I've spoken to in economy class on legacy carriers.

EasyJet also says it will let you fix spelling mistakes on bookings for free, which is a nice touch in the world of budget airlines where fees can pile up.

In short, it felt like the only airline that properly cared about the customer, with a friendly crew, fewer fees, and the largest carry-on size.

Even though the base price of my ticket was the most expensive, I thought it was worth more than the Ryanair and Wizz experiences. On some routes, it might even turn out cheaper with easyJet.

Of course, ticket prices and the cabin crew depend a lot on where you're flying to, and some destinations might only be served by one airline. If you have a suitcase, you might even find it cheaper on a legacy carrier.

Tourists will soar to 100,000 feet (30,500 metres) in the space lounges and be rewarded with 360-degree views of Earth below

Danish Michelin-starred chef Rasmus Munk has offered a peek into what he's preparing for guests aboard the world’s first floating spaceport, set to take off on its maiden flight in 2025.

Operated by luxury spaceflight operator Space Perspective , a Florida-based start-up, six guests will ascend aboard Spaceship Neptune to the stratosphere, where they will enjoy an immersive dining experience from the edge of the Earth.

The bio-fuel-powered balloon-like vessel can accommodate up to eight guests and one pilot.

Munk, 33, will travel with the guests and serve the meal himself, from a small kitchen. He told the Associated Press his menu will be inspired by the impact of space innovation.

Though mysterious about his menu, Munk said he’s planning to incorporate glow-in-dark stars made from aerogel and jellyfish protein.

“We are also working on an edible piece of space junk from a satellite,” he said. “And then, we want to talk about some of the things going on the planet … from deforestation to temperatures rising and the rubbish in our seas.”

Munk’s Alchemist restaurant in Copenhagen, the Danish capital, has held two Michelin stars since 2020, and last year was ranked fifth best restaurant in the world.

Tickets on the Spaceship Neptune cost $495,000 each. Space Perspective said more than 1,000 have already been sold.

The flight won’t technically reach “space”. Spaceship Neptune will ascend to around 30 kilometres, well below the Karman line, the boundary separating Earth's atmosphere and outer space, which is some 100 kilometres from Earth.

More than 260 applications from 60 countries, a record number, have been received for UN Tourism's Best Tourism Villages.

Now in its fourth year, the annual listing was launched by UN Tourism, a specialised agency of the UN, to drive rural development and well-being via tourism. Applications are assessed by an independent body on various criteria including cultural and natural resources, economic sustainability, infrastructure and prioritisation of tourism by their governments.

A number of villages in the region have already made it to the Best Tourism Villages list, including AlUla in Saudi Arabia , which was listed in 2022. Oman's oasis Misfat Al Abriyeen was included in 2021 along with the heritage village of Rijal Alma’a , also in Saudi Arabia.

Popularly known as the “gingerbread village” because its buildings look like they are made of gingerbread, Rijal Alma'a is nestled in the mountainous Asir region of Saudi Arabia.

A a pristine example of the kingdom’s diverse heritage and culture, the village consists of several towering houses and palaces, each constructed out of natural stone clay and wood. UN officials said the Saudi village is “an outstanding example of rural tourism”.

Wizz air plans to receive 300 more planes by 2030: can airbus keep up.

The Hungarian low-cost carrier has always been keen to pursue growth.

  • Wizz Air plans to more than double its current aircraft portfolio to 500 by 2030-2032, aiming to operate one million flights annually.
  • The airline's expansion strategy includes adding more Airbus A320 and A321neo jets, with a focus on longer routes and new subsidiaries.
  • Wizz Air's growth ambitions also involve establishing new base airports, creating new airline companies, and doubling its current workforce.

More than most other kinds of airlines, low-cost carriers are known for their expansionist strategies, looking to grow quickly in a market where margins are low but capacity is high. Hungarian budget giant Wizz Air is a prime example of this, having made additions to its fleet and network even during the quietest months of the pandemic. Now, the carrier is aiming to more than double its aircraft portfolio.

Bigger and better

It is worth noting at this juncture that Wizz Air is far from a small airline, with the Hungarian operator also boasting smaller subsidiary carriers in Malta, the UK, and the UAE. These have helped it expand its reach beyond the frontiers of its European heartland, and it now has, according to Wizz Air CEO József Váradi in a recent interview with Index , 208 aircraft in its fleet. However, this number is set to rise.

Indeed, Váradi notes that the Hungarian low-cost carrier has " more than 300 more in the pipeline over the next 5-6 years ," adding that " our goal is to have a fleet of 500 aircraft by 2030-2032 ." Such a fleet expansion would assist the airline in achieving its goal of operating one million flights a year, and transporting some 170 million passengers in the process. But which aircraft types will form this growth?

Check out all the latest European aviation news here!

Like many budget operators, Wizz Air favors a uniform fleet model, with its aircraft family of choice being the Airbus A320. According to Airbus ' latest data pertaining to orders and deliveries, the carrier currently has 13 outstanding orders for the A320neo, and a whopping 310 for the larger A321neo model.

Longer flights and new subsidiaries

Data from ch-aviation shows that a reasonable proportion of Wizz Air's Airbus A321neo orders are examples of the extra-long-range A321XLR model. Specifically, the site lists 45 as being on order for Wizz Air's mainline division, as well as one apiece for its subsidiaries in Abu Dhabi and the United Kingdom.

Wizz Air is already no stranger to a long route, with some of its services this summer scheduled to have block times of almost seven hours, as linked below. Nonetheless, the presence of the A321XLR would take its capabilities in this regard to the next level, unlocking further opportunities for operational growth.

Up To 6h 45m: Wizz Air's 11 Longest Routes This Summer

Indeed, Reuters quotes Váradi as saying that the carrier's planned fleet growth " will create opportunities for new base airports and even establishing new airline companies ," as well as more than doubling its workforce. As such, it is clear that Wizz Air's planned fleet expansion will enable it to grow in multiple facets.

Is such growth achievable?

Intending to more than double the size of what is already a large fleet is one thing, but achieving such an ambitious goal is another matter altogether. For Wizz Air to receive 300 aircraft in the next six years would require an average of four to five new planes to arrive at the carrier every month.

Data from Airbus shows that it received three aircraft in January and another three in February, with this figure rising to five in March before dropping back to three in April. As such, the carrier requires a small but consistent uptick in deliveries to meet its goals. Simple Flying has contacted Wizz for further information.

WIZZ Air celebrates "20 years of transformative air travel"

Press Release     07:22 - 21 May 2024

wizz travel

Wizz Air has proudly celebrated two decades of innovation, growth, and unparalleled service in the aviation industry.

Since its inception in 2003, Wizz Air has been at the forefront of revolutionising air travel, catering to over 400 million passengers worldwide and marking numerous milestones along the way.

The airline reflects on the journey and the early days of its operations. It was not always a smooth ride for the airline, however these moments are now an integral part of Wizz Air’s legacy.

The 19th of May 2004 was an important moment for Wizz Air. The day of the first flight, the team was excitedly preparing for the maiden take off scheduled for 6:00am. At 5:30am, the CEO - József Váradi - was still not at the location. It transpires that he overslept and was woken up abruptly by the chief Operations Officer at that time. With much yelling and emotion, he was on board by 5:51 am just in time for the take-off.

Later that day Váradi was invited to speak on CNN about the new airline. The interview had a little spin too when the anchor told him the following “Wizz Air is the 57th new airline recently created, who needs you? Come back in a year if you are still around”.

“The rest is history, however Wizz Air carried 400 million passengers in the past 20 years and even I’m still around.” – commented Váradi .

From its agile beginnings, Wizz Air has soared to new heights, serving as a beacon of connectivity and accessibility in Europe and beyond. With a commitment to democratizing travel, Wizz Air has facilitated unprecedented access to destinations, fostering economic and cultural exchange across borders.

In the past two decades, Wizz Air has achieved remarkable feats, including flying to nearly 200 destinations in 53 countries. Bolstered by a network of four airlines, the airline group has demonstrated firm dedication to safety, reliability, and excellence in operation.

With a relentless focus on sustainable practices, Wizz Air has set the standard for responsible aviation, earning recognition year after year the most sustainable airline in the world. Through innovative initiatives, and a young fleet, it continues to minimize its environmental footprint.

With ambitious plans to become a 500-aircraft airline by 2030, the airline is committed to continue shaping the future of aviation and enhancing the travel experience for generations to come and to liberate the lives of its passengers via affordable travel.

"I extend my greatest gratitude to every one of you for your continued support and relentless commitment over the past two decades. Together, we have changed the world and achieved a remarkable success. Thank you! Our eyes are on the next 20 years now," said Váradi .

Wizz Air has been one of the key players in Cyprus’ aviation landscape since 2010, transporting over 7 million passengers to date. In the past year alone, the company flew more than 2 million passengers, reinforcing its strong position. Offering over 26 destinations from Cyprus to 16 countries from Larnaca Airport. Wizz Air is honored to support Cypriot citizens and look forward to its continued role in shaping the future of air travel in Cyprus.

In recognition of this milestone, Wizz Air is offering a once-in-a-lifetime prize package that will enable one lucky winner to explore nearly 200 of the airline’s destinations globally. The chance to win a lifetime’s worth of flights worth €20,000. For a chance to win, adventure-seekers should purchase a Wizz Air ticket and submit their booking code and name on Wizz Air’s 20 th anniversary competition page between 19 May 2024 00:00 (GMT+1) until 21 May 2024, 23:59 (GMT+1). The competition is open to any tax resident of the countries to which Wizz Air operates over the age of 18. With no restrictions on the prize, the winner will be able to take friends and family on as many trips as they like until reaching the €20,000 limit.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi launches fixed-price air ticket subscription service in UAE

Passengers can save 40% on airfares to summer destinations as well, says airline

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi Airbus A321neo

Abu Dhabi: Ultra-low-cost carrier Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a Hungarian ultra-low-fare Wizz Air subsidiary, has expanded its ‘Wizz MultiPass’ – a flight subscription service – to travellers in the UAE.

“The Wizz MultiPass enables passengers to enjoy a fixed price for their ticket and baggage for the entire year and travel every month on international flights from, and to, the UAE for a fixed monthly fee,” the airline said in a statement on Friday.

The airline said in a statement that the monthly flight subscription service offers consistent airfares unaffected by seasonal changes or last-minute bookings. With the subscription service, airline passengers can travel multiple times and gain loyalty rewards.

The travel scheme allows travellers to customise their subscription plan and enables flexibility with additional services, such as WIZZ Priority and/or a 20 kg checked-in bag.

Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, said, “The MultiPass is a smart innovation that provides more flexibility for our most loyal and savvy customers, ensuring they can access our best fares year-round. We are proud to offer products that enable our customers to tailor their experience, and we look forward to welcoming them to board soon.”

Passengers can choose between one-way or return flight options and whether to add the Wizz Priority service and/or baggage allowance. As with a regular Wizz Air ticket, the airline said that additional services can be purchased and added to the booking before the flight via the ‘Check-in and Bookings’ page.

The airline has said that with the ticket-only fare, its MultiPass subscribers can save up to 40 per cent on tickets between even the most popular summer destinations this year.

“This is a wonderful opportunity ahead of the summer peak season, especially for passengers who need to commute frequently from the UAE to any chosen international route,” it said.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi provides ultra-low fares to several destinations, including Alexandria, Almaty, Amman, Ankara, Aqaba in Jordan, Athens, Baku, Belgrade, Bishkek, Cairo, and Dammam. Other routes are Kuwait City, Kutaisi, Larnaca, Male, Madinah, Muscat, Salalah, Santorini, and Samarkand. The airline also operates to Sarajevo, Sohag, Tashkent, Turkistan, Tirana, and Yerevan.

Wizz Air set for ‘smooth landing’ despite engine issues and Israel-Gaza disruption

W izz Air is set for a smooth landing in its full-year results despite disruption stemming from conflict in the Middle East and supply chain issues with its Pratt and Whitney-manufactured engines.

The low-cost carrier is set to announce a return to profit on Thursday, with net income of between €350m and €370m (£318.2m), in line with market expectations.

Like rivals Easyjet and Ryanair, Wizz Air has benefitted from rising airfares and a surge in leisure demand over the last 18 months.

It carried a record 15.1m passengers in the final quarter to December, up 22 per cent year-on-year.

But the bumper demand was not enough to offset turbulence from supply chain disruption and the geopolitical developments in the Middle East, with Wizz ultimately swinging to a loss.

The war between Israel and Gaza has seen thousands of flights to the region cancelled since November, and chief József Váradi has warned of a “ripple effect” on demand in neighbouring countries.

At the same time, Váradi’s outfit was forced to cut capacity dramatically and ground aircraft as many of its GTF engines, built by Pratt and Whitney, were called in for inspection amid production hiccups. The capacity reduction brought annual profit guidance down to €450m (£387m) from €350m (£301m).

Shares in the airline have fallen 30 per cent in the last twelve months. However, despite the frustrations, analysts are confident that strong demand will keep Wizz Air on track in the long run.

“The GTF engine recall has been a headache necessitating engine inspections and the altering of schedules, although compensation paid out will have helped offset revenues lost due to the impact on capacity,” Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown, said.

“But strong demand for travel has offset the operational difficulties. The hike in ticket prices isn’t putting off holidaymakers, with consumers ringfencing budgets for trips abroad.

“As far as guidance for the coming year, the signs are that bookings remain robust. Recent data from Barclaycard for April showed that although overall retail spending dipped in the UK, transactions at travel agents soared 14.4 per cent while spend jumped by more than seven per cent, and similar trends will be playing out across Europe.”

She added: “Costs at Wizz Air have also been kept under control, with expenses growing more slowly helped by its good performance record and lower fuel costs and that’s also likely to be reflected in the full year numbers.’’
