Ultimate Bali Honeymoon Tour Guide: Romantic Escapes to the Island of Gods
Welcome to the enchanting island of Bali, where romance permeates the tropical breeze and sunsets paint the sky with hues of love. A honeymoon in Bali is not just a vacation, it’s an experience etched into the hearts of couples forever. This Ultimate Bali Honeymoon Tour Guide is tailored for lovebirds seeking a blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion in one of the world’s most idyllic destinations.
Luxurious Accommodations for Honeymooners in Bali
The first step to an exceptional honeymoon in Bali is choosing the perfect nest. Consider the tranquility of Honeymoon Green , where infinity pools merge seamlessly with the sky or opt for the exclusive Ubud Nyuh Bali Resort & Spa , which offers personalized service within an embrace of Ubud’s serene nature. Then there’s the iconic Kuta Romantic Getaway , a haven that not only provides intimacy but also keeps you connected to Bali’s vibrant coastal scene.
Whether your preference lies in the opulent climes of a high-end resort or the discreet charm of an intimate villa, such as the Berry Amour Romantic Villas , you are sure to find a haven that not only reflects your love story but also enhances it. These resorts offer tailored experiences, from romantic dinners under the stars to couple’s massages that align with the island’s spiritual ambiance, all ensuring that your honeymoon becomes a treasured memoir of shared moments.
Romantic and Intimate Experiences in Bali
Beyond the walls of your luxury accommodation, Bali opens up as a canvas for romance and shared experiences. Discovering the island’s intimate side can be as simple as a sunset stroll on a secluded beach, or as exhilarating as a private sunrise hike to the summit of Mount Batur. Each activity is an opportunity to create memories that resonate with the special bond you share.
Imagine starting the day with a sunrise breakfast on a secluded beach, followed by a private surf lesson where you both can ride the waves amidst the warm embrace of the Indian Ocean. Seek out the sacred and hidden spots like the Gardens of Tirta Gangga, where hand-in-hand, you walk amidst historic water gardens, or indulge in a couple’s spa day where the scent of frangipani accompanies traditional Balinese healing practices.
For an unforgettable evening, why not embark on a sunset dinner cruise? Bali offers several options, where you can dine on exquisite local cuisine while basking in the radiant glow of the setting sun. Intimate moments are not in short supply; from custom jewelry-making workshops in Ubud, where you can forge lasting tokens of your love, to star-gazing in the highlands of Munduk, every day invites a new exclusive experience.
A Culinary Journey Through Bali
Honeymooning in Bali is an invitation to embark on a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds and offers a taste of the island’s cultural richness. Balinese cuisine is a symphony of flavors that seduces the palate, whether it’s through a traditional ‘Megibung’ feast for two or a romantic dinner in a candlelit garden. Each dish tells a story, infused with local spices and age-old cooking traditions, making dining out a cultural excursion in itself.
Couple’s cooking classes have become a quintessential Balinese experience. Here, you can learn how to craft dishes like ‘Bebek Betutu’ (slow-cooked roast duck) and ‘Sate Lilit’ (spiced minced meat satay) from the wisdom of local chefs. These intimate courses often begin with a visit to the morning markets, selecting fresh ingredients which you will transform into delightful Balinese fare, creating not just meals, but lasting memories.
For those evenings where you crave sophistication, Bali is home to world-class fine dining establishments. Places like ‘Mozaic’ in Ubud offer gastronomical adventures with tasting menus that fuse local ingredients with modern techniques. Meanwhile, the beachfront ambiance of ‘Sundara’ adds a layer of tropical elegance to your dining experience, perfect for an enchanting evening with your significant other.
Adventurous Activities for Thrill-Seeking Couples
For those who equate romance with adrenaline, Bali’s diverse landscapes provide the backdrop for exciting shared adventures. Whether it’s chasing waterfalls, such as the majestic Sekumpul Falls, or diving into the deep to explore vibrant coral reefs together, Bali has a wealth of activities to get your hearts racing in unison.
There’s something inherently bonding about conquering fears and trying new things as a couple. Thrill-seekers can venture into white-water rafting down the Ayung River or paragliding over the cliffs of Uluwatu, offering not just thrills but also unique perspectives of the island. For a more leisurely yet equally engaging pursuit, cycling through the Jatiluwih rice terraces can be a serene way to connect with nature and each other.
And let’s not forget the magnetic allure of the ocean – surf lessons in Canggu, or a dive trip to the USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben, offer immersive adventures and the opportunity to bond over new shared passions. Bali’s natural wonders are not just a spectacle to behold but a playground to explore, promising to elevate your honeymoon to an expedition of love and discovery.
Enchanting Natural Landscapes: Bali’s Scenic Outdoors
Bali is not just a showcase of cultural wonders, but it is also an emerald paradise teeming with otherworldly natural beauty. Honeymooners can retreat into the tranquility of Bali’s landscapes, from the serene Lake Beratan to the majestic Mount Agung, which stands guardian over the island. Wander through the misty pathways of Bali Botanical Garden, or relax on the tranquil shores of Lovina, famously known for its dolphin sightings at dawn.
The romance of Bali’s nature is also found within its marine life and coastal magnificence. East Bali’s Blue Lagoon offers secluded snorkeling spots with schools of vibrant fish flitting among the coral gardens—a serene underwater ballet to observe hand-in-hand. For the adventurous couples, a journey to the remote West Bali National Park promises encounters with exotic wildlife amid lush greenery, echoing the untamed spirit of your love.
And let’s not overlook Bali’s famed sunsets that turn the sky into a canvas of gold, pink, and purple—a daily spectacle best enjoyed from the cliffside temple of Tanah Lot or the sandy expanse of Seminyak Beach. Sitting side by side, as the sun dips into the horizon, is a moment of reflection and connection that embellishes the tale of your honeymoon with the vivid colors of nature.
Vibrant Nightlife: Bali After Dark
As the sun sets, Bali transforms into a vibrant playground for the night owls. Honeymooners can find their rhythm within the eclectic mix of nightspots that offer everything from cliff-top clubs with panoramic ocean views to laid-back beach bars where the sand is your dance floor. Seminyak pulsates with high-end venues such as Potato Head and Ku De Ta, which pair crafted cocktails with DJ-curated beats under a canopy of stars.
If intimacy is what you crave, seek out the speakeasy bars tucked away in the nooks of Ubud or the roadside bistros with live acoustic bands in Sanur. For an evening steeped in tranquility, Jimbaran Bay provides a quaint setting with its seafront seafood restaurants, where you can dine on the day’s catch while enjoying the soft whisper of the waves.
Not to be missed are Bali’s iconic beach clubs, such as Finn’s in Canggu, where the party vibe is balanced with plush loungers perfect for couples to snuggle on while sipping sundowners. The vivacity of Bali’s nightlife scene is matched only by the island’s spirit of serenity, offering honeymooners the chance to craft their perfect evening, whether it involves dancing the night away or savoring a quiet moment together in paradise.
Rejuvenating Wellness Retreats for Couples

Day 1-3 of your Bali Honeymoon: Sanur
So, you’ve landed on the Island of the Gods — now what? We suggest easing into your 12-day Bali honeymoon or romantic holiday in the beautiful seaside town of Sanur, just a half-hour drive from the airport.
Often called ‘the Bali of old’, Sanur offers a gentle introduction to this magical island and visitors fall in love with the lazy beach days and charming beachfront restaurants. While known for its low-key vibe, this east-coast gem still has plenty to tempt you off your sun lounger (or not).
Once you’ve settled at your luxury Sanur accommodation — there are plenty of boutique hotelts and a handful of big-brand resorts — take a stroll along the beloved promenade that wraps the coastline. Flanked by resorts, cafes, and vibrant traditional jukung fishing boats, this it the perfect introduction to Sanur’s five-kilometre stretch of beaches.

If you can’t wait to throw down a towel, Sanur Beach is known for its calm waters (thanks to an offshore reef) which are lovely for a leisurely swim. Craving something a little more action-packed? Along with paddle-boarding and windsurfing, kitesurfing is one of the most popular water sports here, with lessons available for beginners and numerous rental shops along the beach.
Temple enthusiasts will love Pura Blanjong, home to what is believed to be Bali’s oldest historical artifact: Prasasti Blanjong (Blanjong Pillar), circa AD 914. Meanwhile, art-lovers can drop by the Le Mayeur Museum, former home of Brussels-born artist Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres.
Oh, and if you’re up in time for a legendary Sanur sunrise, join a sunrise yoga session (there were some free ones happening on the beach when we were there) or head on to the Sanur Morning Market for a taste of local life. If you’re looking forward to a good sleep-in (and who could blame you after all that wedding prep!), try the Sindhu Night Market for delicious and authentic street food instead.
Bali honeymoon heaven starts here.

Don’t miss:
· Book a spa treatment or a yoga session – or both! – at the gorgeous Koa Shala , a boutique spa with professional therapists, a superb spa menu, and a holistic wellness centre with regular yoga classes. It’s located in the heart of Sanur.
· The Sanur Night Market, located on the town’s main road, offers epic street food at super affordable prices! Don’t miss the pisang goreng (a local fried banana dish) for dessert.
· Take a stroll (or two) along the seaside promenade which is dotted with great restaurants and cafes with postcard-ready views of traditional jukung boats and the ocean beyond.

Day 4-6 of your Bali Honeymoon : Ubud
It’s time to swap those beach walks for green hues and tropical jungle vistas. Just follow the sounds of gamelan music and scent of incense to Ubud (under an hour’s drive from Sanur), home to lush landscapes, secluded day spas, and an extensive array of luxury villas, some perched over the sacred Ayung River. No Bali honeymoon is complete without Ubud on the itinerary – it is truly magical and unlike anywhere else in the world!
While it’s tempting to laze your days away in the privacy of your luxury villa (seriously, there are so many breathtaking accommodation options in Ubud!), the township and region beyond have an incredible array of activities.
Ubud is well-known for its wonderful arts and crafts, with many of the island’s most creative artisans calling this home. Browse the multitude of galleries and boutiques in the bustling town or book yourselves an art tour to discover the best spots to view and buy local masterpieces. The streets are dotted with restaurants and cafes, inviting you to enjoy local food and take a breather from sightseeing. Bali is also renowned for its traditional dance performances and we highly recommend catching one of these in your travels.
When you’re ready to escape the buzz of the town centre, a wealth of gems awaits nearby. Take in iconic Ubud views from the Campuhan Ridge Walk: a nine-kilometre track best enjoyed in the relative cool of early morning or timed to catch the sunset. Our recommendation? Follow the signs towards the breathtaking 8th century Pura Gunung Lebah temple for a dose of beautiful Balinese heritage or treat yourselves to a massage at the Karsa Spa, located on the Campuhan Ridge. You’ll also be close to the stunning Saraswati Temple. Dedicated to the Hindu goddess Saraswati, this is one of those ‘see it to believe it’ spots that looks lifted straight from a movie set, with ponds of blooming lotus flowers enhancing the serene experience.
And no trip to Ubud would be complete without wandering the beautiful rice fields and terraces. Our tip? Book a bike tour to learn more about these areas from a local guide — and be sure to factor in a photo op at the Tegalalang Rice Terraces UNESCO site. Stunning.
Don’t Miss:
· Goa Gajah (or elephant cave) is a must-see historical site dating back to the 11th century, with entry via the carved mouth of a demon!
· Pampering for two at any of the amazing spas in Ubud. You’ll even find some surrounded by rainforest or overlooking a river valley below.
· Ubud’s Insta-famous Bali jungle swing is a photo op you don’t want to miss. Our tip? Make a day of it and book the swing with a combined tour of attractions including Goa Gajah and the Tegenungan Waterfall.
· If you’re looking for a high-energy honeymoon adventure, try white-water rafting. Ubud is known for it!
· A traditional cooking class is a Bali must-do, and Ubud has countless excellent options to teach you a few new moves you can practise at home.
Day 6-9 of your Bali Honeymoon : Seminyak/Legian
Ready for the west coast? Thanks to Bali’s compact size, you’ll be back on the beach in around an hour. Find two of Bali’s most famous stretches of sand, Seminyak and Legian, right next door to one another plus a huge range of gorgeous resorts and retreats, legendary beach clubs, and incredible local shopping.
Seminyak is a busy neighbourhood that happens to be home to some of Bali’s hippest dining spots and epic nightlife. You’re spoiled for choice here, so why not change it up each night? Many beach clubs are also open during the day, meaning the party vibe never has to end! Some resorts have their own complimentary club, but day rates tend to be very affordable across the board.
The surf is excellent off Seminyak Beach, but if that’s not your thing, just relax and take in the scene. With numerous local stalls selling cold drinks and fresh coconuts (you can even rent a sun lounger!), it won’t take long to feel at home. Just make sure you’re beachside for a legendary Seminyak sunset before dinner and drinks at a local restaurant.
Want to take things down a notch? Look to Legian, one of the island’s main tourist destinations but with fewer crowds and a more low-key feel than Seminyak. The beautiful waters here are guaranteed to delight, so why not book a surfing lesson with your loved one? This area has a reef-less seabed, making it ideal if you’re just learning to catch a wave. Ready to shop? Lose a few hours in the Merta Nadi Art Market, one of Legian’s myriad shopping streets which sells everything from knock-off handbags to local handicrafts and authentic souvenirs.
· Potato Head is easily one of Bali’s most iconic clubs. Enjoy two infinity pools, daybeds, epic food and drink, and pumping music — all beachfront.
· Pop into Nyaman Gallery for a contemporary mix of Bali-based emerging artists and international names.
· The legendary KU DE TA bar serves world-class food, drinks, and tunes all day: but stick around because the real magic happens after sunset.
· Ground Zero Memorial is a must-see when visiting this region, built in memory of Bali’s 2002 terror attack.

Day 10-12 of your Bali Honeymoon : Jimbaran/Uluwatu
Get ready for an unforgettable three days to complete your trip! At the south-western tip of Bali, about half an hour from Seminyak if the traffic is light (Bali’s traffic is unpredictable and at peak times it could be longer!), the dramatic Bukit Peninsula is home to Uluwatu and the beloved Uluwatu Temple (or Pura Luhur Uluwatu). Perched 70 metres above the waves, this clifftop Hindu sea temple is arguably the most enchanting site you’ll visit on your honeymoon to Bali. And it takes on an incredibly magical quality at sunset when the sky is ignited with colours and the rousing Kecak fire dance performance begins in the amphitheatre.
Ocean calling you back? Perfect, as although Uluwatu has long been a magnet for surfers, there’s also plenty of beautiful beaches and hidden coves to discover here. And because nothing says romance quite like a sunset cruise, we highly recommend experiencing this gorgeous region on a private boat. Or perhaps a fishing charter where you can have your freshly caught fish cooked into a simple yet memorable feast.
Now, we may have saved the best for last because just north of Uluwatu you’ll find Jimbaran Bay and what many believe is the best beach in Bali (stroll its crescent of clean white sand and you’ll soon see why). The sensational sunsets, relaxed fishing village vibe, and string of seafood warungs (food stalls) right on the beach make this a top spot to enjoy your last days on the island. And despite its low-key feel, Jimbaran is home to a handful of luxe resorts and boutique retreats (we love Kayumanis Jimbaran Private Villas & Spa) to cap off your romantic Bali honeymoon.
It’s always hard to say goodbye to this captivating isle — but chances are you’ll be planning your anniversary trip on the plane home!
· Had enough of dancing your way through the nights? Yeah, we didn’t think so. Jimbaran’s iconic Rock Bar showcases Indian Ocean views from 14 metres up with entry via AYANA Resort & Spa’s epic cliffside inclinator! A honeymoon highlight if we ever saw one.
· Seek out Suluban Beach (north of Uluwatu Temple), a tiny gem sheltered by limestone cliffs and accessible only by a winding path of steps.
· Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, or GWK park, is one of Bali’s most iconic landmarks and a great way to see more of the beautiful local culture.
· Break up the sun-drenched days with a duo spa experience in the comfort of your resort.
If you’ve got more time to spend in beautiful Bali, you could easily extend your days and spend longer in any one or all of these destinations.
Why not venture further afield and jump on over to Lombok, or head up north to Mejanagan or Bali’s eastern region where you’ll find Candidasa and other areas offering well-preserved ancient villages, mysterious temples and beautiful beaches?
And if you are keen divers, you may be familiar with the USAT Liberty shipwreck, a renowned shore-based dive about two hours north of Sanur in Tulamben. Whether you’re a newly certified diver or a complete pro, this site is worth the trip for its ease of accessibility and excellent visibility.
So, there you go! From luxury hotels to cultural charms and gorgeous beaches to world-class dining, use this Bali travel guide as your compass and tweak it to match your style (beach-lovers, extend your time by the golden shores, culture-vultures be sure to stay longer in Ubud), and you can’t go wrong! Any Bali honeymoon that includes these divine locales is bound to be one full of incredible experiences and indelible memories you’ll take with you through life.

Good to know about Bali
Time Zone : GMT +8
Language : Indonesian
Capital : Denpasar
Population : 4.5 million on Bali
Currency : Indonesian Rupiah Rp
A few phrases :
Thank you: Terima kasih
Goodbye: Selamat tinggal
Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia , just north of Australia, between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. There are over 17,000 islands in this archipelagic nation
The population is 280 million, making it the planet’s 4th most populous. The religion is mostly Muslim, although Bali is mainly Hindu.
Bali is a province of Indonesia and the westernmost of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It’s East of Java and west of Lombok.
The province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller offshore islands, like Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.
Best time to visit Bali for honeymoon
Bali and Indonesia have a tropical climate. It doesn’t have four seasons or experience winter. Instead, it experiences monsoon or simply put, rainy season and dry season .
The best time to visit Bali for a honeymoon is from April to October , during the dry season. This is the time of year with the least rainfall and humidity.
While many couples travel during the rainy season from November to January and particularly over the Christmas/New Year period, expect some bouts of showers, including occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Discover the best time to visit Bali with our month-by-month guide!
How to get around Bali
Bali is approx 150km from east to west and 110km from north to south, but the main Bali honeymoon destinations aren’t too far away from each other.
The traffic can be heavy. Whatever time Google Map tells you to get somewhere, double it!
It’s very rare to hire a car in Bali, but many tourists rent mopeds/scooters to get around Bali. You’ll need an international driver’s licence / permit and ensure your travel insurance covers you in the event of an accident.
If you don’t have experience driving a moped or are cautious about driving in Bali (and to be honest we wouldn’t blame you!), we’d recommend using local drivers or taxis instead.
You can use Uber style local ride-sharing apps like Grab . There’s also a competing ride sharing app, GoJek , too. Either is safe to use.
Hiring a driver for the day is inexpensive, while it may not be as quick as a moped, it’s safer and a more leisurely way to travel! Book a 5-star rated driver.
Dining & Drinking in Bali
Bali resorts are usually booked on a bed & breakfast board basis because Bali has an incredible dining scene! Like the rest of Asia, the regional food is delicious.
Warungs are traditional and usually family-run establishments with super affordable Indonesian food. You get incredible value, with dishes only costing a couple of dollars and a must for diving into local cuisine.
Consider doing a cooking school shortly after arrival to immerse yourself in Indonesian cuisine (and also demystify things if you’re not adventurous eaters!).
You’ll also find many other world cuisines to choose from in the major tourist centres too. Plus, there are so many cute vegan and organic cafes with great coffee, particularly around Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud.
Bali is not only a wonderful foodie honemoon destination , but it’s ideal for couples who like a little hedonism. You’ll find plenty of nightclubs and bars and some of the most fun beach clubs on the planet.
Bali Honeymoon Resorts & Hotels
Bali has so many incredible honeymoon resorts , you’re so spoiled for choice!
The hotels and resorts are not all-inclusive and the hotel prices usually include bed & breakfast.
There is a range of accommodation types and room categories, from the world’s most luxurious five-star hotels to villa rentals to budget guesthouses.
The good news is that it’s very affordable. In fact, you get some of the best value in the world in Bali.
If you love luxury (or if you have champagne tastes on a beer budget!), Bali is your perfect honeymoon destination.
Book a suite or villa with your private infinity pool and indulge in that floating breakfast you’ve been dreaming of! Keeping reading and we’ve got some of our favourite Bali honeymoon spots below.
Bali Honeymoon Destinations
Bali is jam-packed full of things to do and sights to see. Whether it’s a day at the spa, a yoga class at sunrise, snorkelling, diving, partying, cultural pursuits, or shopping — the list is endless.
Where to go and where to stay? Let us take you on a tour to help you decide on the perfect Bali honeymoon itinerary !
West Coast Beaches – Seminyak, Legian & Canggu
Most couples will want a stay on the west coast beaches and Seminyak is our top choice to start your Bali honeymoon itinerary.
It’s full of luxury resorts, places to eat and party while still being a little classier than its more rowdy back-packer neighbouring area to the south, Kuta.
You also have Legian between Kuta and Seminyak, and Canggu, which is north of Seminyak.
Canggu has risen in popularity in recent years as it’s a popular spot for digital nomads and surfers. While the beach isn’t as nice as Seminyak, it has a laid back bohemian vibe and has some lovely Bali honeymoon resorts worth considering.
These areas are quite close together. The coastline from Kuta to Canggu is only around 15 kms.
The west coast is more built up because of the proximity to the capital and the airport and so the traffic can be heavy so we’d recommend choosing the beach area you want to spend most of your time in so you don’t have to jump in taxis the whole time.
Seminyak, Legian & Canggu are great Bali honeymoon spots for just relaxing by the beach or pool.
It’s also perfect for dining, shopping, day trips so a good introduction to Bali, albeit busy outside.
It’s a great jump off point for exploring on your Bali honeymoon. Take a day trip to Nusa Penida , learn to surf and spend the day at Potato Head Beach Club.

South Coast Beaches – Jimbaran Bay & Uluwatu
The Bukit Peninsula is home to Uluwatu and Jimbaran Bay and some of the most luxurious and impressive Bali honeymoon resorts .
It’s quieter than Kuta & Seminyak, but it’s only an hour away and close to the airport, too.
Some of Bali’s best beaches are in this area, like Padang Padang Beach, Dreamland Beach and Nyang Nyang.
The dramatic cliff scenery is stunning. It’s super romantic and, like Seminyak, one of the best areas to start or end your Bali honeymoon itinerary.
Visit Uluwatu Temple, go surfing, hit Sundays Beach Club and watch the most beautiful sunsets.

Southeast Coast Beaches – Nusa Dua, Sanur & Tanjung Benoa
The south-east coast beaches around Nusa Dua and Sanur are popular with couples seeking a more resort based stay on their Bali honeymoon itinerary.
You can still get out on day trips but it doesn’t have the more thriving dining scene, independent boutiques and beach clubs you’ll find in Bali honeymoon destinations like Seminyak.
There are plenty of luxury hotels and you’ll find the Bali honeymoon resorts on this side of the island are cheaper than Seminyak, Uluwatu and Jimbaran Bay.
This area is very popular with families and it’s a great spot for watersports. One downside to staying on the south-east coast beaches is that it’s not on the sunset side (although there are beautiful sunrises for early risers!)

Ubud is Bali’s most famous town, and it’s really a must add on to your Bali honeymoon itinerary.
Located inland, it’s the perfect spot for jungle adventures . Known for its arts and crafts, the town is surrounded by rainforest and terraced rice paddies dotted with Hindu temples and some of Bali’s most famous landscapes.
Ubud and the surrounding area has some of the best Bali honeymoon hotels where you can enjoy the surroundings from the luxury of your own private infinity pool , complete with floating breakfast.
Take a yoga class, visit Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary , and get that insta shot on the Bali swing. Do a cooking class, make your own jewellery and take a hot-air balloon ride .

Lombok & The Gili Islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno & Gili Air
Lombok is a large neighbouring island to the east of Bali and a world away!
It’s much quieter than Bali with better beaches like Pink Beach and amazing snorkelling and diving. Plus, it has beautiful hikes where you can swim in hidden waterfalls .
A trip to the ‘hidden Gilis’ , Gili Petagan, Bidara, Kapal and Kondo is a must, too. There are some lovely honeymoon resorts on Lombok.
Offshore, on the northwest coast of Lombok, there is a trio of laid-back tropical islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air .
While you can get to the Gili Islands from Bali, Lombok is a great jump off point to the islands as they’re just off the coast.
The Gili Islands are car-free paradises with more white sand and calm turquoise waters than Bali. They’re super laid back and ideal for snorkelling and diving.
The accommodation is a bit more rustic than in Bali or Lombok.
Gili Trawangan is a party hub and the largest and most developed of the three islands, with a bustling nightlife and beach clubs.
In contrast, Gili Meno is a serene paradise, perfect for those seeking tranquillity and seclusion .
Gili Air is a balance between the two, with a laid-back vibe while still providing a range of activities and dining options.
The Gili Islands are the place to get that insta-worthy shot of a swing in the ocean .
It’s best to take a private fast boat to the Gili Islands from Bali, which take around 3 to 4 hours and they depart from a few spots on the island.
Book your boat transfer early if travelling in high season.
During the rainy season, the seas can get choppy between Bali and Lombok and the Gili Islands and there can be ferry cancellations, so some couples will choose to fly to Lombok instead (airport code: LOP). Occasionally, the seas can be choppy during the dry season, too.

The Nusa Islands – Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan
Home to some of the best and most instagrammable spots in Bali, the Nusa Islands are a trio of islands off the east coast of Bali.
They’re super close, and you can hop on a speedboat and be there in 30 minutes.
For many years, most couples just took a day trip to Nusa Penida, but with the advent of Instagram, they’ve become more popular to stay for a couple of days, too. If you have the time, that is.
Some of the best beaches in Bali, like Kelingking Beach , Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach, are on Nusa Penida.
There are beautiful hikes, cliff jumping and boat trips, diving and the heavenly natural infinity pool, Angels Billabong .
Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are two tiny islands, but they’re connected by a bridge, so it’s very easy to explore both.
They get fewer day trippers from mainland Bali than Nusa Penida, so if you want something a little less busy on your Bali honeymoon itinerary, then they’re 100% worth considering.
The Nusa Islands are closer than the Gili Islands, so ideal if you only have a night or two to explore an extra island.
Although remember they are different, the Gili Islands are more flat, sand islands with beaches and bars and no cars. Whereas the Nusa Islands are more rocky, and you need transport to get around.
You won’t find ultra luxury Bali honeymoon resorts on the Nusa Islands, but that’s what adds to its charm.
You can explore the beautiful beaches and watch the sunset from Devil’s Tear. Go cliff jumping at the Blue Lagoon.
Nusa is another great spot to get a shot of the swing in the beautiful blue sea. There are beach bars and great dining on the Nusa Islands, too.

Off The Beaten Track Bali Honeymoon Ideas
While parts of the south of Bali suffer from the scourge of over tourism, it’s still possible to get off the beaten track on your Bali honeymoon!
West Bali National Park is home to one of the most untouched parts of Bali. Stay at Plataran Menjangan Resort & Spa where you can cycle, trek through the jungle and visit Ijen Crater to catch the stunning turquoise coloured crater lake.
You can also visit Menjangan Island , which is a hidden gem and home to a herd of deer.
Lovina is a beach town in the more secluded north of the island, away from the hustle and bustle of the south.
It’s known as a jumping off point to find dolphins that live along the coast. The beaches are more black sand and this is a part of Bali to experience more authentic local life. Stay at Puri Mangga Sea View Resort and Spa .
Amed is a fishing village on the northwest coast with black sand beaches. One of Bali’s most famous temples and site of millions of Instagram images, Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang, also known as Gate of Heaven Lempuyang Temple, is just 30 minutes away.
Nearby Tulamben is also one of the best diving sites in Bali with the WW2 shipwreck, USAT Liberty. Stay Mathis Lodge Amed .
There are also a couple of luxury resorts by Alila Manggis and Amankila near the east coast’s much less visited Manggis.
Just an hour east of Ubud is Sideman . It’s almost like Ubud before the crowds came with rice paddy fields and waterfalls.
Nearby you can go whitewater rafting and Mt Agung is just 45 minutes’ drive, so the ideal spot for that incredible sunrise hike .
Mt Batur is a little further north and you can do a sunrise hike there , too. Plus, Batur has hot springs at Lake Batur. You can also visit these easily from Ubud.
Stay at the heavenly Wapa di Ume Sidemen or Samanvaya Luxury Resort & Spa .
In north central Bali, Munduk has one of the best natural treasures, the stunning waterfalls trail. Explore beautiful Sekumpul waterfall and Banyumala waterfall .
At nearby Bedugal , one of the most famous images of Bali, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple can be found.
Accommodation is much more rustic around this lesser visited part of Bali. You’ll find more home stays and guest houses, but if you’re staying in this area, Sanak Retreat is the perfect rural retreat.
How to plan a Bali honeymoon itinerary
It can be a little overwhelming trying to create the perfect Bali honeymoon. Confused about where to go and how long to stay? No matter where you go, you’ll have a gorgeous time.
Bali can be a relaxing destination where you can do nothing and pass the time away on the beach or in your private pool villa or suite, but as you can see there are lots of activities to do, islands and beaches to see, mountains to climb and foods to try!
While you can base yourself on one area, if you have time, we’d recommend picking a couple of spots / islands and moving around a little.
How much time you have and how much you want to relax vs sightseeing will help you decide on your Bali honeymoon itinerary .
When planning your itinerary, remember that 2 nights will only give you 1 full day to explore/relax, 3 nights = 2 full days, 4 nights = 3 full days, and so on.
You’ll definitely want some relaxing days, but you’ll also want to get out and explore this magnificent island.
Here is what we’d recommend for a Bali honeymoon:
If you have 7 nights , pick a beach area like Seminyak, Uluwatu or Nusa Dua (if on a budget) and take day trips or split your stay into 4 nights at a beach and 3 nights in Ubud.
If you have 10 nights , either add another beach to the end of your itinerary or consider adding the Nusa Islands or Gili Islands for 3 nights in the middle of your itinerary.
If you have 14 nights , relax by the beach / pool in Seminyak or Canggu for 3-4 nights, then pick some islands and come back to Bali to do Ubud and finish up with 3 nights in Uluwatu.
If you’re lucky enough to have over 14 nights , add in an off the beaten track area. We love Sideman, Munduk and Amed.
Bali Honeymoon Frequently asked questions
Is bali good for a honeymoon.
Yes! Bali is one of the best honeymoon destinations . There is a wide range of luxurious and affordable honeymoon resorts and hotels with private pools and floating breakfasts.
There are many romantic activities for honeymoons – sunrises, sunsets, hikes, culture, and adventure. The food is delicious and Balinese people are very hospitable!
However, it does have issues with over-tourism so if you can, try to get off the beaten track a little.
Is Bali safe for LGBTQ+ couples?
Indonesia is a Muslim majority country, so it is a conservative destination .
While homosexuality is not illegal, LGBTQ+ people do not have an easy time and can suffer discrimination and harassment.
Bali is mostly Hindu and a little more liberal than the rest of Indonesia.
However, it is still a conservative island and even heterosexual couples should be sensitive to local sensibilities when it comes to sexuality and public displays of affection.
In the large international resorts, you shouldn’t have any trouble as a same-sex couple in terms of honeymoon amenities however, elsewhere discretion is recommended.
Overall, Bali is a relatively safe place to travel for LGBTQ+ couples.
How long should we stay in Bali on our honeymoon?
We recommend at least 10 nights for a Bali honeymoon for a mixture of relaxation and sightseeing and experiences.
However, the ideal duration of a Bali honeymoon will vary depending on personal preferences and budget.
Longer will allow you more time to explore the different areas and islands surrounding Bali and allow you to have some time for adventure and relaxing.
When planning your Bali honeymoon itinerary, remember that 2 nights will only give you 1 full day to explore/relax, 3 nights = 2 full days, 4 nights = 3 full days, 7 nights = 6 full days and so on.
How do we get to Bali?
The capital city of Bali is Denpasar in the south of the country and this is the location of the airport ( airport code: DPS ).
Although there are currently no direct flights from Europe or the US to Bali you can easily get there via another hub in Asia like Singapore (3 hours), Bangkok (4 hours) or Kuala Lumpur (3 hours) and the Middle East hubs like Dubai (9 hours), Istanbul (12 hours) and Doha (10 hours).
There are direct flights from all the major Australian cities (4-6 hours). Plus, you can fly from other regional Asian airports like Tokyo (7 hours), Ho Chi Minh City (4 hours) or Manila (4 hours).
Do we need a visa for Bali?
A visa is required for Bali . Most nationalities can enter Bali for up to 30 days if you obtain a eVisa online. You can arrange your Indonesia eVisa on iVisa.com .
You need 6 months of validity left on your passport.
Do we need travel vaccinations for Bali?
Bali has a lower risk of malaria. Anti-malarial drugs may be recommended for rural parts of Bali and other parts of Indonesia.
Bali is not Zika free .
We encourage you to visit the Center for Disease Control website for up-to-date travel vaccination recommendations or speak to a Tropical Medicine Specialist.
Is a Bali honeymoon package expensive?
Bali is an inexpensive honeymoon destination from a western point of view. Known for its luxurious and affordable resorts and boutique hotels, cheap eats and affordable transport and activities.
However, the cost of a honeymoon in Bali will vary widely depending on several factors including the time of year, the type of accommodations, the length of stay, and the activities planned.
The biggest expense with a Bali honeymoon package is getting there but once you do it’s undeniably affordable.
However, if you stay in 5-star hotels, only eat in your luxury hotel and book tours and excursions via your concierge you will pay a higher price tag but for couples who are even a tiny bit savvy, it is easy to arrange things with local companies or online before hand!
Should we use a travel agent to book our honeymoon in Bali?
A good travel agent who books Bali regularly will usually have a direct relationship with hotels in the country.
This means they may have preferential rates, so it’s definitely worth checking things with a trusted travel agent. Using a travel agent has a lot of advantages .
However, if you prefer to book a D-I-Y Bali honeymoon package , we’d recommend choosing a flexible hotel rate with free cancellation with Booking.com . You can get great discounts with their loyalty programme.
You can book transfers and ferries easily , along with tours and excursions on GetYourGuide or Viator .
When you’re booking flights , if you can’t fly directly and are booking connecting flights, give yourself enough time to change airplanes. We’d recommend at least a 2 to 3-hour layover for a stress-free experience.
Don’t forget to have travel insurance in place before booking!
What about travel insurance?
Here at The Honeymoon Guide, we want you to have the best honeymoon possible. Safety is paramount, so it’s important to have travel insurance in place when you book your honeymoon .
If you don’t have travel insurance check out WorldNomads.com to learn more.
World Nomads provide travel insurance for travellers in over 100 countries. As an affiliate, we receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using this link. We do not represent World Nomads. This is information only and not a recommendation to buy travel insurance from World Nomads.
What should we pack for a honeymoon in Bali?
Bali is a place full of adventure but it’s also a destination with sophisticated bars, beach clubs and hotels!
So while we’d say leave the heels at home, bring attire for adventures but also some chic, casual summer clothes for romantic dinners and partying the nights away.
Check our out Ultimate Bali Packing List for everything you need to know!
Should we bring cash / should we tip in Bali?
While you can use credit and debit cards in Bali at most luxury hotels, restaurants and tour operators.
You will need cash for incidentals and if you go to the islands around Bali.
You can take out cash at the ATMS on Bali rather than bringing a pile of cash.
Tipping is not part of the customs of Bali. However, it is still appreciated for good service. Round up the bill by the rupiah equivalent of a couple of dollars is ideal.
Where can we tag on to Bali for a multi-destination honeymoon?
As you can see whether you have a week or a month, Bali has so much to see and do that even two weeks is not always enough.
So if you want to spend your whole honeymoon there, you won’t be disappointed!
However, it is very easy to add other Indonesian islands like Java or Flores, to name a few.
Neighbouring countries are easy to add on, too. A city stopover in Singapore is one of our favourite combinations.
Malaysia, Vietnam , India , China , The Philippines and Japan are also great options for couples with more time.
Bali is also well connected to the Middle East . If you’re travelling via Europe, you could add city stops in fascinating Istanbul. Dubai is one of our favourite honeymoon city stopovers and neighbouring Abu Dhabi has a lot going on , too.
If you can’t decide between Bali and Thailand , we’ve got the lowdown on the what makes them different .
Or, if the Maldives is on your bucket list, while there is no direct flight between Bali and Maldives , you can easily travel via Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Bali & The Maldives is one of our favourite multi-destination honeymoon ideas .
Short on time and need to decide between Bali and Maldives? We’ve got the lowdown on that , too! Bali is a wonderful alternative to the Maldives .
Things to consider before you book your Bali honeymoon
While we love to recommend a honeymoon in Bali, there are some potential downsides that you might want to consider so you can make a well-informed decision and plan your dream honeymoon!
- Weather : Bali’s monsoon season from November to March, can occasionally lead to regular heavy rains which can spoil your honeymoon.
- Over Tourism : Bali is a popular destination, attracting tourists from around the world. Popular areas like Kuta, Seminyak, and Ubud, along with the popular sights can get crowded, which means the romance is dialled down if you’re out and about.
- Traffic Congestion : The traffic in Bali can be chaotic, especially in the more tourist-heavy areas. This can make traveling around the island time-consuming.
- Environmental Concerns : Bali faces environmental issues such as pollution and waste management problems. Beaches and streets can be littered in some parts of the island.
- Distance : Depending on where you are in the world, Bali may be further away and if you only have a short time for your honeymoon, it may not be worth travelling so far away. You don’t want to have to deal with jet lag for your whole honeymoon! If you’re flying more than 15+ hours make sure you have at least 10 nights.
Map Of Bali
- Best time to visit is April to October
- Relatively affordable destination but not all inclusive
- Best to move around and stay in at least 2 different spots
- You can tag on other destinations in the Asia for a multi destination honeymoon
