Injora Brass & Aluminum 59mm Long Threaded Shocks for the TRX-4M

New from Injora are their Brass & Aluminum 59mm Long Threaded Shocks (#4M-63BK) for the Traxxas TRX-4M . If you want more suspension travel paired with added low-chassis weight, these shocks offer the best of both worlds.

These shocks feature aluminum bodies and top shock caps with a black finish. A brass spring retainer and rod end help provide additional weight where you’ll need it the most. Each shock will add 8g to your TRX-4M.

A faux oil reservoir caps off the visual appearance of these shocks by adding a slight touch of scale detail. Two spring sets are included with these shocks (.45mm and .5mm), allowing you to tune the performance of your rig to fit your needs.

This a set of Big Bore Scaler Shocks, designed specifically for the TRX-4M™. Take your TRX-4M™ to the next level of performance in Pro-Line Style! Just like our best-selling 1/10 version, these miniature Big Bore Scaler Shocks feature CNC machined Aluminum Shock Caps, Threaded Bodies, Bottom Caps, and Polished Steel Shock Shafts for added style and durability over the stock shocks. A double O-ring seal on the main shaft eliminates leaks and provides a smooth, low-friction shock action.

The Big Bore Shocks come pre-assembled in a set of 4 with all mounting hardware included. All you need to do is unscrew the top cap and add silicone shock oil (20wt recommended) to fill the shock body. Replace the cap and compress the shock 3-4 times to fully lubricate the shock shaft. Now you're ready to start your next small-scale adventure!

Three spring rates are included with these shocks: Green (Soft) for the front, Yellow (Medium) for the rear, and optional Red springs (Hard) for heavier bodies or just to tune to your specific conditions. I’m always excited when a new R/C model hits the market, and from what I’ve been reading and watching, the TRX-4M from Traxxas looks to be an impressive machine. This 1/18-scale R/C crawler and trail rig wonderfully captures the stunning 1:1 details of the modern Ford Bronco and classic Land Rover Defender with ABS plastic bodies. Under the hood, these vehicles feature a time (and trail) tested ladder-frame chassis, four-link suspension setup, brushed motor, and oil-filled shocks.

Monument to Alexander III

On May 23, 1909 the controversial monument to Alexander III was opened in the center of present day Ploshchad Vosstaniya. It depicted a very stout bronze figure of the counter-reformist and unpopular Russian Tsar combined with a very heavy horse on a pedestal. The monument was hardly opened when it caused an intense public scandal. Petersburg society was divided. The more reactionary part of society was indignant. They said the caricature of the Tsar was too open. However, democratic society welcomed the powerful and exposing monumental sculpture. In fact, the debate even reached the city Duma, which seriously reviewed the question of the right of the statue's existence. Only the author of the monument Paolo Trubetskoy remained unflappable and said, "I do not engage in politics. I simply portrayed one animal for another."

In St. Petersburg there were rumors that the monument to Alexander III would be erected in the Urals, high in mountains on the border between Asia and Europe. This was explained by the massive figure of the horseman and his pony, and their continuity with the land. Designers of the monument planned to have people look up at the monument from below, from a great distance, for example from windows of a dashing train to conceal the heavy weight of the Tsar and completely take in the sculpture.

The monument was ostracized in February 1917. Critics of the monument labeled it everything from "scarecrow" and "bureau" to "brute" and other uncomplimentary names. The monument seemed to be a riddle whose answer brought incredible joy to the street's masses. Several popular riddles of the day underscored the unpopular and uncomplimentary view of the Tsar.

Moreover, the controversial production of monumental sculpture suffered an unfriendly fate. In 1937 it was removed from Ploshchad Vosstaniya and placed in an interior court yard of the Russian museum where it was ostensibly separated from the city. According to popular folklore of the day, the monument became "the prisoner of the Russian museum."

At that time in Leningrad there was a popular belief that the well-being, honor and merit of the city were guarded by the three horsemen: the Peter the Great monument on Senatskaya Ploshchad, the Nicholas I monument on Isaakievskaya Ploshchad and the Alexander III monument on Ploshchad Vosstaniya. The fact that one of these guardians of the city was removed from its historical home in 1937 was seen as a sign of imminent misfortune.

The official reason for the monument being removed was that it apparently obstructed the trams which went along Nevsky Prospekt even though the trams had been moving along Nevsky Prospekt without incident for more than 30 years prior.

Many considered that one of the first real victories for democratic society in post-communist Leningrad was the "liberation" of the monument to Alexander III from behind the tracery of fences of the Russian Museum. The monument was moved to the yard near the entry of the Marble Palace where not long ago on a low pedestal stood Lenin's famous political rallying armored car. At the time, city authorities said that this was only a temporary site for the monument. However, it is very unlikely that the monument would ever be moved back to its historic home on Ploshchad Vosstaniya in front of the Moscow Train Station because that area is now home to the Hero City Leningrad obelisk.

"Extreme" G5 geomagnetic storm reaches Earth, NOAA says, following "unusual" solar event

An "extreme" G5 geomagnetic storm reached Earth on Friday, NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center said , after issuing a watch earlier in the day warning of the potential for a severe impact. 

The watch followed days of solar activity that sent several explosions of plasma and magnetic fields toward Earth. 

G5 is the strongest level of geomagnetic storm , on a scale from G1 to G5. 

"Widespread voltage control problems and protective system problems can occur," NOAA warns. "Some grid systems may experience complete collapse or blackouts. Transformers may experience damage." 

Radio transmissions and satellite navigation may also be disrupted.

The last G5 geomagnetic storm, in October 2003, caused power outages in Sweden and damaged transformers in South Africa.

A geomagnetic storm also means aurora borealis , otherwise known as the northern lights , could be seen as far south as Alabama and in Northern California. 

Earlier, NOAA had issued its first watch for a potential G4-level geomagnetic storm in almost 20 years. "If geomagnetic storms were hurricanes, 'severe' would be category 4," SpaceWeather.com says. 

In a press release on Thursday, NOAA said the most recent series of solar events started on May 8, when a large cluster of sunspots produced "several moderate to strong solar flares." Solar flares are bursts of radiation known to be the solar system's largest explosive events, according to NASA. The area where the flares are occurring is 16 times the diameter of Earth, the NOAA said, and more solar activity is expected. 

That sunspot is so big you may be able to see it with your own eyes  — with your solar eclipse glasses. The spot is known as AR3664 , and it was responsible for most of the geomagnetic activity Friday, the NOAA reported. According to Space.com, it measures about 124,000 miles across and is one of the "largest and most active sunspots seen this solar cycle." 

The NOAA reported that a strong solar flare was observed peaking from AR3664 at 9:23 p.m. Eastern Time Friday. 

"Flares of this magnitude are not frequent," the prediction center said .

There has also been a series of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are explosions of plasma  and magnetic fields that come out of the sun's corona, the outermost part of the sun's atmosphere. At least five CMEs appear directed toward Earth and could arrive as early as midday on Friday and persist through Sunday, the agency said. 

"This is an unusual event," NOAA said.

In a call with reporters on Friday, Shawn Dahl, service coordinator at the Space Weather Prediction Center, said that some CMEs "are catching up with other ones." He said officials are expecting a "big shock arrival" when they hit Earth. Dahl said at the time that while officials weren't predicting a G5 storm — the strongest of geomagnetic storms — they couldn't discount a "low-end G5 event."

"We're really buckling down here," Brent Gordon, chief of the space weather services branch, also said on the call.

G4 conditions were detected by Friday afternoon, marking a "major disturbance in Earth's magnetic field," NOAA said, adding that "the public should stay properly informed of storm progression."  

In a forecast discussion at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center said that solar activity is expected to continue at "high to very high levels" through the weekend, with additional solar flares expected, including X-class flares , the most powerful class of solar flares.

As of Friday afternoon, NOAA said it had observed a moderate solar radiation storm that could expose people in high-flying aircraft to "elevated radiation risk" and cause infrequent issues with satellite operations. 

Radio blackouts have also been detected with an R3 designation, meaning that the blackouts were "strong" on a scale from R1 (minor) to R5 (extreme). At this level, wide blackouts of HF radio communication is expected, as well as loss of radio contact, for about an hour on the sunlit side of Earth, as low-frequency navigation signals decline for roughly an hour. 

"Geomagnetic storms can impact infrastructure in near-Earth orbit and on Earth's surface, potentially disrupting communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations," NOAA said. "[The Space Weather Prediction Center] has notified the operators of these systems so they can take protective action."

Dahl agreed Friday that the event is "pretty extraordinary" and said that it could impact infrastructure, including high-voltage transmission lines of the power grid. Dahl said that infrastructure operators have been notified to adequately prepare. 

This is the first time a storm watch has been issued for a G4 since January 2005. There is an average of 100 severe geomagnetic storms every solar cycle, but so far, there have only been three observed in the most recent cycle that began in December 2019. The most recent occurred on March 23.
