Everything you need to know about Disney Cruise Line in Australia

September 22, 2022 by ohsobusymum 15 Comments

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DISNEY CRUISE LINE IN AUSTRALIA

I’m so EXCITED! Disney Cruise Line is bringing the Disney Wonder cruise ship to Australia for the very first time! You might have noticed that the price of a Disney cruise is a little more than others currently sailing in Australia, so I thought I would break it down for you and let you know exactly what is included and everything you need to know about cruising with Disney Cruise Line in Australia.

disney cruise sydney review

Yes, a Disney cruise is more expensive than others available (I call that the Disney tax) and here is why. Firstly it's Disney; everything Disney attracts a higher price, but behind the Disney name comes that Disney magic at sea that can't be matched by other cruise lines. If you have ever visited a Disney Park, you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "Disney magic".

Disney Cruise Line is all about families, and everything on board has been designed and planned with families in mind. From having split bathrooms with bathtubs (say what?) to the activities and food choices on board. Disney is a 5-star cruise line with the magic starting the second you check in for your cruise.

disney cruise sydney review

I’m beyond excited about this announcement, and I will be online with thousands of you trying to secure a spot on one of the Disney cruises out of Brisbane. If you’re trying to secure a spot, I recommend you jump online to the Disney Cruise Line website and sign your account before the cruises are released on September 29th at 8 am AEST or 11 am NZDT to increase your chances of securing a booking.

DIsney cruise line food

The Food

Disney Cruise Line works on ‘rotating dining’ with 3 main dining rooms. There are also casual dining options. Disney's rotating dining means that you will rotate between the three main dining rooms during each night of your cruise, and your servers rotate with you. You will have to reserve your dining time when you book, with the main seating at 5:45pm and the second seating at 8:15pm.

animators-palate-restaurant-00

Animator's Palate

Animator's Palate celebrates the art of storytelling with an interactive dinner. The restaurant will change from black and white images to colour masterpieces throughout your dining experience. Guests can draw characters and see them come to life in animation. It's a fun and interactive dinner that will soon become one of your favourites.

Tiana's Palate

Tiana's Palate is a themed restaurant based around the story of the Princess and the Frog. The style of this restaurant is a New Orleans style party with live music to keep everyone entertained. It's fun and entertaining, but loud with the live music. You can expect Southern style cuisine from steak, chicken to fish and the kid's menu will not disappoint.

Triton's is named after Ariel's father from The Little Mermaid and is the most upscale restaurant on rotational dining aboard the Disney Wonder. It's themed ‘under the sea’ with a French and American menu. Triton's is the only dining room to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Palo (extra charge)

Palo is a paid upscale restaurant that is adults only serving up Italian cuisine. It makes the perfect date night dining experience without the kids. Palo also serves brunch. You can expect to pay an extra $40USD ($60AUD) per person to dine here. You can read reviews online to see if it's worth it for you.

disney cruise sydney review

Casual Dining

Pinocchio's Pizza - Grab a slice of pizza throughout the day whenever you're hungry!

Eye Scream Treats - The perfect spot to grab a soft serve ice cream (eat as much as you want!)

Pete's Boiler Bites - You will find classic American food like hot dogs, tacos and burgers.

Daisy's De-Lites - Grab a salad, sandwich, wraps or some fresh fruit here

Cabanas - Cabanas serve a buffet style breakfast and lunch (hello Mickey waffles) and at dinner, transform to table service where you can enjoy a 4 course meal

Room Service - Included in the price of your cruise, room service is available 24 hours a day, for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Any room service gratuity/tips are at your discretion and should be around $1 per item

disney cruise sydney review

Bars and Lounges

French Quarter Lounge - A perfect stop to grab a coffee or cocktail while listening to some live music. During the day, it turns into a family friendly spot with games and activities plus character meets

Crown & Fin Pub - This is an adult only bar that resembles a British pub. You can enjoy watching sporting events and live music

Cove Cafe - This is another adults only bar that offers cocktails, wine and specialty drinks

Cadillac Lounge - Adult only exclusive in an intimate piano bar with a 1950's theme

Signals - This is located right next to the Cove pool, so it makes it the perfect place to grab a drink while lounging around the pool area

disney cruise sydney review

The Kids Club

The Disney Wonder has 5 options when it comes to kids clubs on board. When I say kids club, it's not your typical kids club. Disney Cruise Line kids clubs are world class with themed play areas. Kids will even have the chance to meet their favourite characters!

Oceaneer Club - Disney's Oceaneer Club is suitable for ages 3-12 years old (must be fully toilet trained). It's all about fantasy here with Andy's Room multilevel playground, Marvel Superhero Academy, Disney Junior games and a Frozen Adventure area.

Oceaneer Lab - suitable for ages 3 - 12 years old (must be fully toilet trained). With four lands to explore in the Oceaneer Lab, your kids won't want to leave (connected to the Oceaneer Club so kids can move between the 2). It's all about fun and learning with an animator's studio, captains workshop, craft studio and the wheelhouse where kids can steer the ship in any direction they please.

Edge - Suitable for ages 11-14 years old , edge provides a hangout spot for tweens to have fun and make new friends. Tweens can play video games, take selfies on the dedicated wall, do scavenger hunts, karaoke and dance on the dance floor.

Vibe - Suitable for ages 14-17 years old and is a teens only hangout! Teens will find video games, board games, dance parties and a coffee bar to serve up non alcoholic drinks.

It's a Small World nursery - Suitable for ages 6 months - 3 years old and an extra charge. Disney's trained staff will take care of the little ones and keep them entertained.

Make sure you register your children for the kids club on the first day of the cruise.

disney cruise sydney review

Entertainment

Mickey's Sail A Wave Party - To kick off leaving the dock, you will enjoy the most magical party to celebrate with dancing, singing and character visits

Pirate nigh t - This one is a favourite night to celebrate! Dress up as a pirate and enjoy dinner with your pirate bandana and end the night with a celebration on deck (some cruises have fireworks)

Outdoor movies on the big screen - You can enjoy an ice cream or cocktail by the pool while watching one of the Disney classics

Live shows - You won't get bored with the range of musicals and shows on board in the theatre

Fireworks - It hasn’t been announced if fireworks will be included on the Australian cruises, but we can all cross our fingers for this experience

Character meets - Meet, greet and strike a pose with some of your favourite Disney Characters! Kids of all ages can share hugs with Cinderella or goof around with Goofy. Take pictures with Mickey, Minnie and Peter Pan or collect autographs from that lovable but ever-mischievous duo, Chip 'n Dale

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique - Book an appointment at this enchanted salon where kids arrive as themselves and leave as a princess, knight or sea captain (paid)

Thanks so much for clarifying so much in this post. I'm amazed to discover while yes there are cheaper cruise options out there, this is still affordable for a family if placed on a payment plan. I only wish Stitch was on board as that would seal the deal for my little family.

Hi. I was looking at the 2- night cruise departing Melbourne 3 nov 2023. Where does this sail to? Any idea why it’s considerably more expensive than the 2- night cruise departing Sydney on the 1st? Thanks for your detailed post- it’s very helpful!

I have no idea about that one either. Brisbane is more expensive than all of them.

June 28, 2023 at 7:47 pm

Hi, thanks so much for the great information... we have booked for the 2024 season and are so excited. I'm just wondering if the times shone for on board means that's when they let you on or everyone should be on already? So ours says 4.45pm on-board and 7.15am off .... surely we're on the boat before 4.45? And don't have to be off by 7.15? Any advice would be great 🙂 thank you in advance

June 29, 2023 at 7:43 am

When you check in via the Disney Cruise Line App, you will be able to select a boarding time. Priority boarding is always first and around 11am, so I recommend that you select the earliest time available so that you can get on board and start enjoying the ship and have lunch etc. 4:45 would be the the time that everyone has to be on the ship by, not boarding time.

Poor Customer Service

Booked a cruise which cost 12k. I was working when the excursions were released. By the time I had logged on there was nothing worth doing left. The whole point of a cruise is to experience different things not stuck on a boat for 12 days.

Date of experience : 10 May 2024

The service provided by Disney Cruise…

The service provided by Disney Cruise Line is always exceptional. The cast members and crew are always going above and beyond to help guests. The quality of food is amazing, the entertainment is brilliant and the magic of Disney is astounding. We choose to sail with Disney Cruise Line every time and won’t sail with any other cruise company. The expanding fleet of ships means there are new opportunities and even more magic to choose from. 5 star service.

Date of experience : 01 March 2023

Fantastic experience

Wow, what an experience. My wife and 2 children took the Caribbean cruise earlier this month on the Disney Dream and the service is exceptional. Considering the ship is full of sugar fuelled children, the staff were so calm and helpful, the ship was spotless in all areas and the entertainment and facilities were amazing. Food was second to none for the price you pay for the cruise and our little one has allergies to dairy, soy and fish, for which they had plenty of alternatives. I would highly rate this cruise.

Date of experience : 22 April 2023

What a great experience

What a great experience! The characters were out the entire trip, the food was amazing, the shows were great! No complaints my kids had a great time aged 6 and 3. A little pricey but well worth it we are already planning on another one! Thanks Olivia and Jasmine!

Date of experience : 29 April 2023

Amazing service

Amazing service! Disney have gone above and beyond to make sure my experience is amazing and i havent even gone on my cruise yet. So excited for it now

Best support

I have a problem with my booking and need to cancel my trip. Disney Cruise Line make everything possible to help me and give my money back. Thank you Disney, your team is awesome!

Date of experience : 18 April 2023

Sadly, the magic is gone from the Disney brand.

Sadly, the magic is gone from the Disney brand. We originally booked a Mediterranean Cruise with Disney for the Summer of 2020. It was rescheduled and eventually cancelled; because of course for unforeseen circumstances that the world had to deal with. We ventured back for our 4th Disney Cruise last year, from San Diego to Mexico. We noticed some differences from our first three cruises. Mainly less staff, food quality had went down and certainly less magic (all for of course much higher costs). That being said, we REALLY wanted to get our 5th sailing in. We felt the time was right to reschedule the Mediterranean Cruise; so in April of 2023 we booked the Summer of 2024. Now a trip like this takes a lot of planning. You have to fly overseas. You have to book stays, and arrange to get to and from. I won’t go in to all that, as it’s not Disney’s problem. I’ll start with stating that when you’re out of your element, it’s always nice to have assistance. Disney offers to pick you up from a hotel of their choosing on the day of the cruise. We called and asked what hotels, they told us and said they weren’t ready to add the transfers yet. Call back first of the year they said. So we did, and what do they say after I booked and paid for the stay…. “We cannot take you from the resort to the shop because you didn’t book the Hilton resort through us.” Isn’t that grand? They wanted us to cancel my reservation directly with the hotel and spend $800 more booking direct from Disney so we could then pay them to take us to the ship. Never been an issue before, but now it is. Not a big deal, we’ll find our own way. Fast forward to today. We’re logged in to our reservation, and see that they cancelled our day in France. Just poof, gone. Enjoy your additional Day at Sea! So all the things we had planned for that day are no more. Our guides, and excursion, no longer valid or refundable. Now how does Disney make this right… they offered a $250 credit! We lost 3x that from bookings we made. We also are now sailing around the Mediterranean an extra day instead of experiencing the culture we had expected. At $7100 for a 5-night cruise I asked them to do better. They were cold and uncaring (Hi, Maddie!). They’d rather refund the trip and let us figure it out ourselves. So that’s what we did. Look, we’re blessed to be able to afford trips like these. We’re smart enough to navigate around the country and make the most of the time there. What we won’t do any longer is be gifting Disney exorbitant amounts of money for lackadaisical offerings and poor planning on their part. There was a time they would have made this right. There was a time their parks were easier to navigate. There was a time we looked forward to venturing to Disney. That time has passed. Disney has become a vacation for the privileged, which is sad for the country. However, if that’s your consumer, you keep them happy. You make it right. It wouldn’t cost much to do so. Disney can read this review, my name, and see we’ve been to their cruises and parks 30+ times in 15 years. Loyalty like that should be rewarded and not ignored. So, now think about the aftermath… no longer will we spend money on their cruise line. We likely rethink anything Disney at this point, and now someone with 300k followers on socials gets to talk about why you too should avoid Disney altogether. Hopefully reviews like this sting enough for the powers that be to take a hard look at customer experience. I know my company would suffer if I snubbed my customers in the same manner.

Disney cruise line is the best cruise liner in the world

I sailed with Disney cruise line twice and we keep booking cruises with Disney cruise line although Disney cruise line are more expensive than other cruise lines it's worth every penny. I've been on the Disney magic and Disney Fantasy. When I go my online check-in I usually choose port arrival times for 11.45am to 12pm so I can enjoy lunch at cabanas buffet. When I first got on a Disney cruise ship the magic and fantasy cast members asked my for my surname and I said O'Brien and they said on the microphone please welcome O'Brien family and there was in line of cast members clapping hands. I went to Cabanas and there was lot's of food to enjoy there was pizza's, macaroni cheese, rice, crabs and shrimps and there was a selection of desserts pumpkin pie, jello, apple crumble and lemon mousse. People are friendly on the cruise and we made a lot of friends on the cruise from day 1. On the Disney cruises tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water and soda's such as CocoCola and sprite are complimentary at beverage station, cabanas and in main dining rooms. On the Disney magic and fantasy I went to the oceaneers club/lab during open house hours because during open house hours anyone of all ages can participate in youth facilities during youth activities open house hours and in the oceaneers club in the toy story room I was excited and surprised when I seen Woody I had a photo with Woody. On the Disney cruise navigator app Woody wasn't on the daily navigator so that was a lovely surprise. On the fantasy cruise ship I sat in the green RC car and when I went on the Disney magic ship I went on the slinky dog. I enjoyed the star wars machines on the Disney Fantasy in the oceaneers club and I enjoyed doing puzzles on the magical dance floor. I enjoyed the oceaneers club/lab open houses on port day's because they have lot's going on and it's opened for all ages and I enjoyed the dance party with Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie and they had BB8 encounters in the star wars room. I went to cove cafe because the when I order a cappuccino or latte the bar man said to me what picture do I like and I chosen Belle from Beauty and the Beast and he did a picture of Belle on top of the coffee froth which was magical and also they have complimentary cakes in cove cafe I love chocolate orange cake. In the D lounge they had an activity anyone can cook inspired by Disney's pixar ratatouille and it was a demonstration of cooking lobster ravioli and the sauce and you get to try it out and also you get a free glass of wine during anyone can cook event. The chef gives the opportunity for anyone to ask questions and they give you a recipe to take home. One thing that's my favourite about the cruise is character greetings I found it awesome on formal nights when Goofy was in a tuxedo that was great fun and it's fun greeting with characters especially Mickey and Minnie because Mickey wears a tuxedo and Minnie wears a wedding dress on formal nights. I like the Frozen gathering and Princess gathering because you can book Frozen and Princess gathering on the Disney cruise line navigator app and when you turn up you get to straight in to greet them and collect autographs. I like meeting Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie on embarkation day and sea day's they told me that they were driving the ship. I loved the meet and greet with Peter Pan it was a long queue but it was worth it he liked my pirates hat and he said we'll see you tonight for our pirates party I also met Captain Hook and Smee. Pirate Mickey and Pirate Minnie were there too. I also met Daisy and Minnie they were dressed up for a tea party. The fireworks out on deck were excellent, colour and magical. I loved Castaway Cay because it's Disney's private island I did the stingray adventures and I met Captain Jack Sparrow I told him that it's the best beach in the world. At cookies BBQ I had lunch there the food was delicious I had pulled pork in a bread roll, corn on the cob, packet of chips ( Lays make ) salad and french fries. The food at cookies BBQ at Castaway Cay is included in the price of the cruise fare and soda's, tea, coffee and hot chocolate at beverage stations at Castaway Cay. I hire out a river tube and went swimming in the tropical sea with it the sea is crystal clear. On the Disney magic I had Oceanview stateroom my stateroom number was 1078 and on the Disney Fantasy I had an standard inside stateroom my stateroom number was 7679. I enjoyed animators pallate restaurant because I talked to Crush the sea turtle and I enjoyed the character dance party in Enchanted gardens. On the Magic I like Rapunzels Royal Table restaurant I ordered Mickey bars every night for desserts even though they not listed on menu. I enjoyed the shows and musicals in Walt Disney theatre my favourite was frozen the musical on the fantasy and I liked Tangled the musical on the magic because I loved the lanterns.

Before You Book

  • Typically, a 20% deposit is due at the time of booking, though this may vary depending on the time of booking. The deadline for your full cruise payment depends on your cruise length, stateroom category and embarkation and disembarkation ports.
  • Cancellation fees vary depending on your cruise duration and type of accommodation. For more information on the cancellation policy, visit Disney Cruise Line's terms and conditions  page .
  • Disney offers a Vacation Protection Plan that covers trip cancellations/interruptions, emergency medical services, baggage loss or delay and emergency medical transportation. The insurance plan also includes another advantage: If you cancel your cruise for any reason not listed above, you'll receive a cruise credit of up to 75% of the cancellation fee to apply toward a future Disney voyage.
  • For most sailings, Disney Cruise Line requires passengers to be at least 6 months old, though some itineraries require guests to be 1 year or older. Pregnant women who will hit 24 weeks by their embarkation date or during the cruise may not take the voyage due to safety concerns.
  • Guests who require special services must fill out a special request form 30 days before U.S. sailings.  This form can be used for requesting a wheelchair-accessible room, requesting a sign language interpreter or indicating if someone is traveling with oxygen or with a service animal. Disney also lists what European cruises offer American Sign Language interpreters on its website . If an interpreter is needed by a guest on one of the listed sailings, the same special request form should be filled out no later than 120 days before the cruise.

Before You Board

  • Visa and vaccinations may be required to travel to select ports of call. For current visa and vaccine regulations for each country, check the  U.S. Department of State , the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  and the  World Health Organization  websites.
  • Along with a passport or other proof of citizenship, you will need to bring a completed Online Check-In Port Arrival Form.
  • Online check-in is available, and the timeframe for check-in is determined by your status within Disney Cruise Line's loyalty program called Castaway Club, ranging from 30 days for first-time cruisers to 40 days for top-level Pearl members. Disney Cruise Line requires you submit passport information at least 75 days before your trip starts.
  • Cruise terminals generally open for embarkation at 11:15 a.m. Travelers will be checked in during their designated Port Arrival Time, which should be selected in advance online. Cruisers who arrive after the Guest Onboard Time listed on their cruise confirmation may not be permitted to board.
  • You can pre-book shore excursions, some childcare, spa services and activities, such as Character Greetings, as well as dinner reservations at the adults-only restaurants, Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Enchanté or Remy online 75 days prior to your departure date (if you're a first-time passenger) to 123 days before sailing for Pearl Castaway Club members and Concierge guests. If you are a Concierge Stateroom or Concierge Suite guest, you can call the Shoreside Concierge Associate team 130 days in advance to make bookings over the phone before online bookings open. Dining reservations, character meet-and-greets, some spa services, and some excursions are also available on a first-come, first-served basis once on board.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship’s Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship’s Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.

Which Of The Five Disney Cruises Is The Best? Here's The Definitive Ranking

T here's just something special about Disney. Whether we're talking about the theme park's most iconic rides , its long list of highly-rated resort hotels around the world , or the brand's penchant for captivating storytelling and unforgettable experiences, it's safe to say that pretty much everything that Disney touches quickly turns to gold. Their top-ranked cruise line is no different .

The first iteration of Disney's Cruise Line set sail in 1998 under the name Disney Magic. One year later, the Disney Wonder took to the sea. Today, at the time of writing, the current Disney fleet includes a list of five enchanting ships: the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic, Disney Wish, and Disney Wonder. Coming in December 2024, a new vessel is set to join the crew: the Disney Treasure.

For travelers planning their own sea-bound adventure, it can be difficult to differentiate and ultimately choose between the five. After analyzing reviews, the cost-to-value ratio, unique amenities, each ship's design, and onboard entertainment options, we finally settled on our definitive ranking of Disney's cruise ships — all so you can choose which Disney cruise might be right for you .

5. Disney Wish

Although there aren't any necessarily "bad" Disney cruises, the Disney Wish has come under fire from travelers and Disney fans since its official launch in 2022. Specifically, most reviews believe the ship has some pretty glaring issues in terms of spacing and overall layout — both of which make it incredibly difficult to get around. According to previous travelers, the ship — one of the largest of the Disney Cruise Line fleet — surprisingly only has two sets of stairs and elevators for everyone onboard. This, in turn, means there's always a crowd. It also means that adult activities, like nightclubs and lounges, are scattered around, so there is no dedicated adult-only zone, which ultimately muddles the experience.

When it comes to entertainment, however, the Disney Wish does a slightly better job at redeeming itself with four theaters, the kid-favored Oceaneer Club, three main restaurants (assigned on a rotational basis to passengers), adult-friendly bars, and more. As for the pools, some travelers say that these feel more like hot tubs because of their small size. And the water slides? Per online blogs, they're mediocre at best.

It's worth noting that Disney Wish is one of the highest priced of the Disney Cruises for not that much more value, aside from being a more modern vessel — according to reviews on Cruise Critic and Tripadvisor . As an example, Disney Wish offers three- and four-day itineraries from Florida to the Bahamas, with the ship's most affordable route — a three-night cruise from Port Canaveral — priced at $1,925 for two guests.

4. Disney Dream

Operating since 2011, the Disney Dream cruise ship is a strong contender in terms of amenities. Throughout its 14 decks, the ship boasts five main restaurants (including two that are adults only), theaters, bars and lounges, adult-only and kid-friendly pools, sun decks, and plenty more to keep travelers entertained. Nonetheless, some online reviews have expressed disappointment that the ship's dining experiences feel fragmented — leaving plenty to be desired in terms of themed dining.

Considered one of the most kid-friendly cruise lines, the Disney Dream is brimming with kid-focused activities — including daily princess meet-and-greets, movie-themed shows, character cameos, and a bustling kid's club. However, according to a recent discussion on the r/DCL subreddit , the ship's history of shorter itineraries typically makes it less desirable than its counterparts, since there's only so much you can enjoy with so little time — although it's important to note it has expanded itinerary options to include week-long and 12-night trips in Europe.

Lastly, in terms of pricing, the Disney Dream's rates vary depending on length and route. For example, a three-day trip to the Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale will set you back around $1,700 for two people. Meanwhile, on the farther and pricier end of the spectrum, the Disney Dream's 12-night Norwegian Fjords and Iceland cruise carries a higher price tag at $8,565 for two.

3. Disney Wonder

Even though it's a smaller ship, one of Disney Wonder's main selling points is that — out of the five vessels currently sailing today — it's the only ship that offers Alaska-bound cruises, as well as trips along New Zealand and Australia. Given this, it's no surprise that the Disney Wonder often ranks in the top-half of fan-favorite Disney ships — especially for first-timers who want to get a feel of the experience before moving up to a larger ship.

Beyond the ship's unique destinations, some of the Disney Wonder's most notable amenities include three main restaurants (with rotational dining), three heated pools for when you're traveling to cooler destinations, nightly entertainment options, a prim and proper "Royal Court Royal Tea" for the little princesses and princes to enjoy, and even a nightclub for the adults who crave a party. As for dining, one of the highlights of the ship is the New Orleans-inspired restaurant, Tiana's Place. Not only does the restaurant serves some pretty delicious meals, but it also hosts nightly entertainment and its own mini-version of a Mardi Gras parade.

Tickets for the Disney Wonder start from $1,104 for a two-night cruise from Sydney to Brisbane for two passengers. Longer trips are also available — like a seven-night Vancouver to Alaska cruise for $3,424 for two, or a 10-night Hawaiian adventure for $4,013.

2. Disney Magic

The second-best ship on our list is the Disney Magic. After debuting in 1998, the ship has undergone plenty of updates and renovations to keep it modern and appealing — all while staying true to its original charm. Another one of the fleet's smaller vessels — with capacity for just over 2,700 passengers, compared to the others' ability to accommodate up to 4,000 (except Disney Wonder) — the Disney Magic isn't struggling to keep up with any of the larger (or newer) ships.

One of the ship's highlights is the AquaDunk — a top-rated water slide within the entire Disney Cruise Line fleet — which features a straight-down, three-story drop into the pool. Other amenities that make the ship worth your bucks include daily character meet-and-greets, nighttime entertainment (the ship's Cinderella-themed show is a must-see), and delicious dining options. Traveling with an adults-only crew? Disney Magic is ready to cater with bars and lounges, couples' games nights, and adult-themed trivia nights.

Price-wise, the Disney Magic offers trips that range from roughly $1,500 to just over $7,000 for two guests to either the Bahamas or other must-visit destinations in the Caribbean , including Mexico and Antigua. Specifically, a 4-night Caribbean cruise to Mexico will cost two travelers $1,534. On the pricier side, a 10-night cruise through the Eastern Caribbean will set you and a travel partner back about $7,359.

1. Disney Fantasy

Topping off the list, and coming in as the top-ranked Disney cruise, is the Disney Fantasy. After setting sail for the first time in 2012, the ship has quickly cemented itself a go-to for Disney fans and cruise lovers looking for a longer getaway. With six, seven, and 10-night cruise routes available through the Caribbean, the Disney Fantasy ticks all the boxes in terms of entertainment, comfort, and adventure.

Much like the other ships that belong to the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Fantasy is equipped with plenty of onboard entertainment and amenities that'll make any trip unforgettable. From kid clubs to Broadway-style stage performances, meet-and-greets with beloved Disney characters, and both kid-friendly and adult-only pools, the ship is anything but boring. Plus, as an added bonus, the Disney Fantasy is also home to one of the best adults-only districts, Europa. With bars and eateries inspired by European destinations, it's a great escape for adult travelers who want some respite from kid-centric spaces.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that — similar to the Disney Wish — the Disney Fantasy is pricier than other ships, with 3-night trips to the Bahamas starting from $1,996 for two people. However, the destinations more than make up for the cost. For example, the Disney Fantasy is the only ship to offer transatlantic journeys — like their 13-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Barcelona in Spain starting at $4,859.

Our Ranking Methodology

There's a lot that goes into each Disney cruise ship. From themed restaurants to activities, entertainment, and accommodations, each of the Disney Cruise Line's vessels are designed with pretty much the same intention: to provide guests with a Disney-themed experience where, in Disney's own words, "magic meets the sea," no matter the route or destination. Nonetheless — and in spite of these shared goals — there are certain things that some ships do better than others.

In order to come up with our ranking, our primary focus was on the relationship between guest experience and value aboard each ship. Scouring through online reviews and fan forums, as well as the official Disney Cruise Line website, we created a list of each of the ship's pros and cons. From there, we compared these factors against the price of a ticket for two travelers for an inside cabin (typically the most affordable rate). This ultimately helped us find a correlation between how much guests were paying to travel on the ship and what they were getting in return.

Transpacific Voyages

Please note the “international date line” portion of the transpacific itineraries.

The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth, established by the International Meridian Conference of 1884, that runs from the north to the south pole and demarcates one calendar day from the next. It passes through the middle of the Pacific Ocean, roughly following the 180° longitude but it deviates to pass around some territories and island groups. The IDL is on the opposite side of the Earth to the Prime Meridian. The Prime Meridian is used to define Universal Time and is the meridian from which all other time zones are calculated. Time zones to the east of the Prime Meridian are in advance of UTC (up to UTC+14); time zones to the west are behind UTC (to UTC-12).The IDL and the moving point of midnight separate the two calendar days that are current somewhere on Earth. A traveller crossing the IDL eastbound subtracts one day, or 24 hours, so that the calendar date to the west of the line is repeated after the following midnight. Crossing the IDL westbound results in 24 hours being added, advancing the calendar date by one day. The IDL is necessary to have a fixed, albeit arbitrary, boundary on the globe where the calendar date advances in the westbound direction. International Date Line Details from P&O Cruises

10/3/23 cruise is from Vancouver to Honolulu

' src=

Scott, the 10-night Hawaiian cruises are reversed. 10/3/23 is the outbound Vancouver to Hawai’i. 3/1/24 is the return Hawai’i to Vancouver.

' src=

It is not of benefit to my health to do the so called COVID vaccine. And by not having done the shot , those I encounter are at no greater risk of the virus no matter if they have had the shot or not. I ( as well as thousands of others) hope it is not a requirement in order to sail. I would be glad to test before during and/or after a sailing. So glad to have had the opportunity to do 14 cruises with DCL and visit almost all the ports they offered in the past. Sadly I feel the cruise experience with DCL may not be the same as in the past from all the articles I have tried to keep updated with. Glad to read that DCL is ready to venture to new water of the South Pacific. °o°

' src=

way to vent your %^&$ , no one cares about your vaccine hesitancy stupidity

' src=

Looks like dry dock 19th to 3rd as there is a gap.

' src=

I am beyond excited by this, as I live in Australia and will be able to board the beautiful Wonder from my home town of Brisbane next year!

' src=

I cannot wait!!!!!!!!

Scott, the titles & descriptions for the 2 Hawai’i cruises need to be swapped. Just a heads up.

' src=

Some of the dates are hard to understand.

Oct 3, 2023 10 nights Honolulu to Vancouver.

Oct 12, 2023 13 nights Honolulu to Sydney.

Will there be 2 different ships?

' src=

No. Scott has the dates mixed up. Check the included DCL leaflet which shows the correct dates.

No, just the Wonder. The article above has the title and descriptions of the 2 Hawai’i cruises accidentally flip-flopped.

' src=

Thanks for understanding this was an accident.

' src=

Catherine, it is Vancouver to Honolulu which should make much more sense 😉 Sounds amazing but way to far for us unfortunately being in Europe.

Thanks! Yes, they do sound amazing but, being from Canada flights would be long too. But, AMAZING itineraries!!!

What are the itineraries for the 2-6 night cruises departing from Sydney during October, November and December?

' src=

Any idea on when the cruises sailing from and returning to Australia will be revealed? Far more interested in those.

' src=

So, a lot to unpack here – on top of the transpacific announcement… So with the Wonder back in Vancouver on March 11…. This is too early to start Alaska… so a repo to San Diego for a few sailings and then back for Alaska? The timing makes sense and matches previous arrivals in SD post Panama… More Hawaii would be nice… but odds are that this would have been announced as part of this release. No sailings out of San Diego for the Winter 24 season? (unless the Magic was to go back again… doubtful)… and as suggested above, a drydock in late Sept. 23?

' src=

Safe to assume the standard early booking window also applies for the Australia/New Zealand cruises?

' src=

I just want to know where the 3 and 4 night cruises will go. That’s not long enough to get anywhere and back from most ANZ cities.

Ross, It sounds like these will be similar voyages to those offered last summer on the Disney Magic in Europe, where the ship was the destination and the voyages were all sea days. It sounds like we will learn more on Monday, September 26th.

' src=

Any idea what the booking dates are for the Australia cruises?

We should learn more by September 26th.

' src=

I’m surprised that they haven’t done a cruise out of China or Japan yet. Then again that would probably require a completely different cruise staff than one that caters to mostly English speaking guests.

' src=

those repositioning cruises sound absolutely epic and priced fairly; it’s just getting to or from sydney…

7 Best Cruises for Singles in 2024

Updated : May 29, 2024

AAA Travel Editors

Table of contents.

  • Celebrity Millennium: Bali, Malaysia and Thailand
  • Celebrity Apex: Norwegian Fjords
  • Celebrity Summit: Grand Heartland Adventure
  • Celebrity Edge: Taste of Luxury
  • Disney Wish: Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Oceania Cruises: In the Path of Cartier — Boston to Montreal
  • Oceania Riviera: Ancient World Wonders — Athens to Istanbul

Plan Your Cruise With AAA

With many cruise lines now catering to the single crowd, going on a cruise as a single adult can be a great way to meet interesting people to make new friends, new connections and lifelong memories.

No matter what you envision from your dream singles cruise, you can find a ship and a series of destinations that will create unforgettable memories. There are a lot of options to explore, however and the sheer range of choices can quickly feel overwhelming. To help, we've highlighted several of the best cruises for singles. Keep reading to learn what, exactly, sets these expeditions apart.

1. Celebrity Millennium: Bali, Malaysia and Thailand

Many singles gravitate towards exciting adventures in exotic destinations such as Bali, Malaysia and Thailand, which hold appeal simply because they provide such distinct scenery and such powerful cultural experiences.

Not all singles are willing or prepared to navigate these destinations on their own, however and this is where the Celebrity Millennium comes into play: an upscale cruise removes the hassle of planning and, instead, encourages you to relax in style.

This particular Celebrity Millennium adventure spans nearly two weeks, incorporating a unique blend of serene island adventures, cosmopolitan exploration and meaningful temple visits. Onboard, globally inspired menus and resort-style lounges are to be expected, along with plenty of adults-only spaces that will appeal to singles.

2. Celebrity Apex: Norwegian Fjords

If Norway's iconic fjords are on your bucket list, you can't afford to miss this awe-inspiring Celebrity Apex trip . Departing from Southampton, the eight-night cruise meanders along the coast of Norway, hitting pleasant spots such as Geiranger or Kristiansand for spectacular scenery and outdoor adventures. Side trips are available and, with up to ten hours docked, there is plenty of time to explore at your own pace.

Accommodation options abound and, when traveling alone, the staterooms' king-size mattresses feel extra spacious. An adults-only solarium will appeal to relaxation-oriented solo travelers, while abundant dining and entertainment options make it easy to find and connect with new friends.

3. Celebrity Summit: Grand Heartland Adventure

If you're struggling to choose between glamorous onboard experiences and outdoorsy experiences on land, you're in luck: Celebrity Summit provides the best of both worlds with its various Cruisetour offerings. There are many excellent options that depart from Vancouver, Anchorage or Fairbanks — but the Grand Heartland Adventure is worth considering if you crave something new.

During the Grand Heartland Cruisetour, you'll explore the stunning Inside Passage by cruise ship, before docking in adventure-oriented destinations such as Juneau and Sitka. From there, you'll continue to observe national treasures such as the Hubbard Glacier. Further exploration takes place aboard a glass-domed railcar and even a riverboat.

There's also a lot to experience onboard. The AquaClass stateroom represents a true oasis for single travelers, but the exclusive cocktail lounge and martini bar also warrant a visit. With nearly two weeks of cruising and exploration, you'll have plenty of time to unwind on your own but can also form fast friendships with similarly adventurous travelers.

4. Celebrity Edge: Taste of Luxury

Cruises for singles over 50 often emphasize the finer things in life, like elevated cuisine or exquisite wines. These sophisticated details are in abundant supply aboard the Celebrity Edge, which offers a decidedly elegant experience with its Taste of Luxury tour. Although often frequented by retired couples, Celebrity Edge's trips work well as singles cruises.

Available for three or four nights, this remarkable journey begins in Sydney and primarily emphasizes curated on-board experiences. That being said, there are enticing opportunities to explore while docked in Tasmania. With such glamorous suites, restaurants and clubs on board, however, the best attractions can be enjoyed without ever leaving this luxury cruise ship.

5. Disney Wish: Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral

Don't assume that Disney cruise adventures are only for kids or families. If you are a proud Disney adult, you can make amazing memories aboard a thematic cruise for singles. This is a popular vacation among theme park enthusiasts, who enjoy a dose of Disney magic while also finding valuable opportunities to indulge and relax.

Disney Wish's three-night Bahamian cruise is also an excellent option for singles who crave a sea-based experience but only have a few days to spare. Yes, young travelers will be around, but there are plenty of adult-only spaces, including sports bars, dance clubs, dedicated pools and even an onboard spa and salon. Musicals, 3D films and fireworks encourage you to embrace your inner child.

6. Oceania Cruises: In the Path of Cartier — Boston to Montreal

As we've mentioned, smaller ships provide some of the best cruises for singles over 50. Not everyone desires a river-based trip, however and with Oceania Cruises , there is no need to choose between exclusivity and ocean liner grandeur.

A signature experience can be found aboard Oceania Cruises' iconic Nautica ship, which is calming, yet elegant. Echoing the journey of the famed explorer Jacques Cartier, this tour provides a powerful introduction to Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

The land-based excursions are highly educational and, of course, beautiful to behold, but there's also a lot to love on board. Belgian chocolate, Bulgari amenities and turndown service await, with many accommodations also providing spectacular views. Open-seating dining makes it easy to interact with other vacationers while wine-tasting and guest lectures promise plenty of onboard enrichment.

7. Oceania Riviera: Ancient World Wonders — Athens to Istanbul

Another appealing option for singles who prefer slightly smaller ships, Oceania Cruises' Ancient World Wonders tour provides stops at some of the world's most iconic locations, such as Santorini and Corfu. Adventures in Dubrovnik and Istanbul can also be expected. On board this remarkable vessel, you'll gaze in awe at the Lalique Grand Staircase and, in general, enjoy a refined ambiance.

Be prepared to try new flavors and forms of expression as you explore unique offerings such as the Artist Loft and Culinary Center. Deep relaxation awaits at the Aquamar Spa or within your luxuriously contemporary stateroom or suite. This ten-night voyage provides plenty of time to lose yourself in the grandeur of the ship and the treasures of Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Turkey.
