10 of the best bike tours in Copenhagen

What’s the best way to go sightseeing in Copenhagen? By bike, of course.

Cycling is the best way to get round Copenhagen

The city is regularly ranked number one in the index of best cities in the world for cycling, and its network of dedicated cycle paths are a joy to use.

So, why not do as the Danes do and explore the city on two wheels?

Why is Copenhagen so good for bike tours?

Over the last decade or so Copenhagen has invested more than $200 million in its cycling infrastructure, and it now boasts 239 miles of bike lanes.

But it’s not just the excellent network of cycle paths that makes it such a bike-friendly city.

Bikes are considered a natural way to get around – nine of ten Copenhagen residents own a bike – and almost half of all commutes for work or education are by bike.

Commuting by bike is a popular way of getting to work in Copenhagen

And of course the city is fairly flat, with no hard hills to climb. So if you’re wondering where to bike in Copenhagen, the answer is pretty anywhere!

What you can see on a bike tour of Copenhagen

If you opt for one of the classic guided bike tours in Copenhagen , you’ll see all the main sights in the centre of the city, including the canals and lakes, the Little Mermaid, Nyhavn and the Amalienborg Royal Palace.

If you already know the main sights, you may prefer one of the themed tours, that visit lesser known parts of the city or take you to places of specific interest.

When the tours run

Some bike tours in Copenhagen run year-round, weather permitting, but you’ll get more choice in the peak seasons of spring and summer.

A bike tour is the best way to see the sights of Copenhagen

Of course, if you’re just renting a bike and doing doing your own self-guided bike tour you can go at any time of year you like. And many of the private bike tours of Copenhagen run year-round too.

Who can join a Copenhagen bike tour?

As long as you can cycle, you can go on a guided bike tour in Copenhagen.  If you find a conventional bike difficult to ride, you can opt for an e-bike.

If you’re looking for family bike tours in Copenhagen, most are happy to take children provided they are confident and competent on two wheels.

And if your kids are too young to cycle themselves, you can always take a cargo bike tour and put them in the bucket seat at the front.

The best bike tours in Copenhagen

So, if you fancy exploring the city by bike, here are some of our favourite bike tours in Copenhagen.

1. The classic best of Copenhagen tour

This is  the classic three-hour Copenhagen bike  tour that takes you round all the main sights, including Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle, the Amalienborg Palace, the Black Diamond library and, of course, the  Little Mermaid .

Take a classic bike tour round all the main sights of Copenhagen.

You’ll also get to learn all about the history and culture of Copenhagen from a knowledgeable guide.

2. A speedy highlights tour of Copenhagen

If you’re short of time, why not try this 90-minute tour that whizzes you round the highlights of Copenhagen.

If you're short of time, take a speedy highlights tour of Copenhagen by bike.

Your experienced guide will give you an insight into the city’s history and show you to the main points of interest.

3. Fun foodie trip

Foodies will love this three-hour foodie trip by bike to six different venues where you can sample the best of Danish cuisine.

You can take a foodie tour of Copenhagen by bike

The trip takes in a local food market, a smørrebrød restaurant and an award-winning Danish hot dog stand.

Check out these guides for more on Danish smørrebrød and where to get cheap food in Copenhagen .

4. Book a private bike tour

If you already know the city and have seen the main sights, you may want to   book a private tour  so that you can choose where to go or ask the guide to take you off-the-beaten-track to the lesser-known parts of the city.

You can do a private bike tour of Copenhagen, for just your family or friends.

And if you’re travelling with family or a group of friends, it may not work out much more than going on a group tour.

5. Take a cargo bike tour

When in Copenhagen, you just have to have a go on a cargo bike , also known as Christiania bikes, after the suburb of Copenhagen where they were invented. (For more on the freetown of Christiania , read our guide.)

Discover Copenhagen's sights on a cargo bike.

These distinctive bikes with a big bucket in front are great fun to cycle, or you can sit in the cosy front seat and let the driver do the peddling.

And because these cargo bikes are electric it’s not that hard work, so just about anyone can have a go at cycling.

Most people swap around and have a turn in the bucket seat and a turn cycling, or you can stay in the saddle and put your dogs or children in the front seat!

6. Hang out in hip Nørrebro

Seen the main sights already? Then why not  explore the lesser-known areas of Copenhagen by bike .

See the cool street art on a bike tour of Copenhagen's trendy Nørrebro district.

Hang out with hipsters in the trendy district of Nørrebro, a former working-class area that has been gentrified and is now a lively, vibrant, multicultural suburb.

You’ll check out some striking street art, artisan coffee shops, ethnic cafés, craft beer houses, design shops and artists studios, plus the grave of Copenhagen’s most famous son Hans Christian Andersen.

7. Cycle with Bike Mike

Considered by many to be the best Copenhagen bike tour, no rundown of cycle trips in Copenhagen would be complete without the iconic Bike Mike tours .

Go on a cycle tour of the city with Bike Mike, Copenhagen's ultimate bike guide.

A longstanding institution, Bike Mike has been cycling round the streets of Copenhagen for almost fifty years and has become legendary amongst cycle guides for his non-conventional and authentic tours.

8. Go easy with an e-bike tour

If you fancy a bike tour, but don’t want the effort of cycling yourself, this e-bike tour takes all the hard work out of it.

E-bikes make it easy for everyone to see Copenhagen's sights by bike.

All the iconic sights are included and you’ll also spend some time in Christiania which you can explore on foot.

Bikes and head-sets (so that you can hear the guide) are included and because e-bikes go faster then push bikes you’ll get to see more of the city in less time.

9. Hunt the Forgotten Giants by e-bike

This open-air treasure hunt by e-bike takes you out of the city to search for four Forgotten Giants.

Take a tour of Thomas Dambo's giant sculptures around Copenhagen by bike

Dotted around the countryside of greater Copenhagen, these huge sculptures by sustainable artist Thomas Dambo are made out of recycled materials and rubbish.

Not only will your guide take you to see these wonderful works of art, but you’ll explore some of the lesser-known countryside around the city and in Zealand too.

10. Rent your own e-bike

For those who know where they want to go and don’t need a guide, renting an e-bike is the fastest and most fun way to get around.

Rent an e-bike and explore Copenhagen on your own.

Bikes come with baskets (so you can go shopping) and helmets, though they’re not compulsory in Denmark and you’ll see plenty of Danes cycling without them.

You can rent a bike from two hours up to five days, and they have a range of 80km so you can explore out of the city centre too.

Best Copenhagen Bike Tours

A bike tour is the best way to experience Copenhagen. Copenhagen is one of the most cycling-friendly cities in the world. It’s how all the locals get around the city. So by taking a Copenhagen bike tour, you are seeing Copenhagen like a local.

1. Copenhagen: 3 Hour Bike Tour with Guide

A picture of a cyclist on the road in Copenhagen, cycling past a yellow building with Danish flags hanging off the wall.

⭐ RATING: 4.6 out of 5 Stars (550+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

My favourite Copenhagen bike tour is the Copenhagen: 3 Hour Bike Tour with Guide . It’s the best bike tour of the city, and it’s extremely highly rated with an average score of 4.6/5 stars with over 550 reviews.

Review which says, "It was such a nice way to get to know the city! Our guide was very passionate when he talked about Denmark and Copenhagen and we learned a lot of interesting facts and saw special places. Many thanks! Would recommend all my friends to do this experience and will be happy to do it again."

When I book a tour, I always like to go with the “tried and tested” option, and this is the tour with the highest amount of positive reviews. And I can personally vouch for it too, top quality.

During the 3 Hour Bike Tour with Guide , you will get to see most of Copenhagen’s main attractions. Taking a bike tour allows you to get around quicker than if you are walking, meaning you can see more things in a shorter amount of time .

The tour visits the Little Mermaid, Christiansborg Palace, Nyhavn Harbour, Freetown Christiania and many other sights. My favourite is Nyhavn, seeing it in real life makes the pictures seem lame. It’s stunning.

By booking this guided tour, you are also guaranteed to learn a lot about Copenhagen. The company prides itself on “ unique storytelling ” along with learning what “Copenhagen is all about”. As the review above says, the guides are indeed very passionate. And as someone who studied history in school until I was 18, I really enjoyed learning about the historical aspect of things.

You also get to try some delicious Danish cuisine, as there is a break at a local food market. Cycling can get pretty tiring! Although the tour does go at a leisurely pace, so don’t feel like you need to be an experienced cyclist to take part. But who says no to a food break? I know I definitely didn’t, especially since the food in Copenhagen is so tasty.

If you want to take a cycling tour of Copenhagen, 3 Hour Bike Tour with Guide is the best tour for you . Book it now!

2. Copenhagen 3-hour City Highlights Bike Tour

A picture of Rosenborg Castle, a key stop along most Copenhagen bike tours.

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (340+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

Another great option for taking a bike tour of Copenhagen is the Copenhagen 3-hour City Highlights Bike Tour , which is also very highly rated, with an average rating of 4.5/5.

Review which says: "The 3 hour tour was very fun and manageable, with quite a few stops along the way to rest and absorb the sights. A mix of couples and singles were in our small group, and we did not feel rushed at all. Our terrific and knowledgeable guide, kept us informed and entertained along the way. Highly recommend!"

Copenhagen 3-hour City Highlights Bike Tour has also been awarded Viator’s “ Badge of Excellence “ meaning it has met their quality standards check and is one of the best tours they offer worldwide.

As the review says, there is a great mix of people and this tour is suitable for anyone and everyone. What I really liked about this tour is that the guides felt like they were part of the group- they enjoy cycling through Copenhagen as much as we do and they’re so happy to answer any questions along the way too.

The review also mentions about not feeling rushed. This is an important factor when taking a cycling tour. You want to have time to stop at each attraction and take some time to look around, rather than stopping for 2 minutes and going again.

I always hate tours which are rushed, and I’m so glad this isn’t the case here, but I guess it fits in right with the way of life in Copenhagen which is super chilled and laid back.

This tour visits 10 attractions throughout Copenhagen. Including Rosenborg Castle (pictured above), The Little Mermaid, Amalianborg and more. And who could forget the beautiful houses of Nyhavn?! My personal favourite as I said.

The guides of this tour are also known for great storytelling and being very knowledgeable about Copenhagen. As always with a tour, if you have any questions: simply ask! Your guide will be more than happy to answer them.

Taking a biking tour allows you to maximise your time in Copenhagen and see the attractions in a short period of time, and there are few tours better than this one!

It’s also very slightly cheaper than the first option, so if you are visiting Copenhagen on a lower budget , this could be a great option.

Looking to explore all of Copenhagen’s attractions on bike? Copenhagen 3-hour City Highlights Bike Tour ticks off all of them!

3. Guided Bike Tour in Wonderful Copenhagen

A picture of Amalianborg

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (200+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

Guided Bike Tour in Wonderful Copenhagen is, as the name says, a wonderful tour. It has over 200 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐reviews! Once again, tried and trusted. It’s passed the test of over 200 people.

Review which says "Biking is the best way to see Copenhagen, and this tour did not disappoint. The guides are highly knowledgeable and personable. I hope to come back again to visit and rent out a bike."

Guided Bike Tour in Wonderful Copenhagen is a very traditional and classic bike tour of Copenhagen.

The above review says “ biking is the best way to see Copenhagen ” and this could not be any more true. There’s a reason it’s how the locals get around town. And after taking tours myself, I can see why. It’s so easy to get about, and it’s really efficient too. Plus, cycling through the picturesque quaint streets is amazing.

Unless you know Copenhagen like the back of your hand, you’ll need a guide to take you around the city and guide you to the main tourist attractions. The tour company themself say “No need to study a map—a guide leads the way on this bike tour”.

This is one of the biggest tours on this list with over 17 stops! You get to see and stop at all the main attractions.

Guided Bike Tour in Wonderful Copenhagen goes a little further outside of the centre too with a view of Copenhagen Opera house, one of the city’s most beautiful and unique buildings. As much as it’s cool seeing it while cycling, I think the best view of the opera house comes from the water during a canal tour.

The size of the tour group is also limited, so you will have a small group , leading to a more personal experience. A group of 10 is much better than a group of 50, right? I always like smaller groups as the guide can actually talk to you rather than just shout information at a large group.

Throughout the 2 hours you spend on this tour, you will create memories to last a lifetime. What are you waiting for?!

4. Copenhagen Highlights: 3-Hour Bike Tour

A picture of Copenhagen City Hall, another key stop along most Copenhagen bike tours.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (240+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

A fourth option for Copenhagen bike tours is the Copenhagen Highlights: 3-Hour Bike Tour with over 200 reviews averaging at 5/5. We’re really spoilt for choice with great bike tours!

bike tour of copenhagen

As cycling is the way the locals travel, you get to experience Copenhagen as a local by hopping on a bike. When visiting places, I always like to live like a local in some aspects. Whether it’s eating street food in Bangkok or having wine for breakfast in Italy, I like to embrace the local culture.

And Copenhagen Highlights: 3-Hour Bike Tour focuses on this factor and prides itself on the insight into local life and culture you receive from your guide.

Another big selling point of this tour, in particular, is you get to visit some hidden gems of Copenhagen, on top of seeing the most popular tourist spots.

For example, as well as seeing Nyhavn, you also pass by the Royal Danish Theater, as well as seeing Rosenborg Castle, you also get to stop at the Royal Library. I always like going a bit beyond the beaten track , and Copenhagen’s hidden gems are definitely gems!

It’s a great way to see Copenhagen as a tourist, and as a local. I personally always seek to get a bit of both. I want to see the touristy things, but I also want to go beyond the touristy front.

And Copenhagen Highlights: 3-Hour Bike Tour is the perfect way to do so. What better way than by having a local guide you?

5. Copenhagen: 3-Hour Culinary Bike Tour

A picture of some Danish pastries on a cafe's display.

⭐ RATING: 4.6 out of 5 Stars (120+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

What better way to see Copenhagen than to combine a bike tour with a food tour? Copenhagen: 3-Hour Culinary Bike Tour is the PERFECT option for foodies who also want to do a bike tour.

bike tour of copenhagen

A bike tour of Copenhagen is an amazing experience. A food tour of Copenhagen is an amazing experience. Combining the two leads to one of the best tours you will ever take anywhere in the world! And that’s exactly what Copenhagen: 3-Hour Culinary Bike Tour offers.

Danish food is absolutely delicious. I couldn’t eat enough if I tried during my time in Copenhagen! This tour takes you to 6 incredible local eateries across Copenhagen, providing you with plenty of opportunities to try the mouth-wateringly tasty Danish cuisine.

I’m quite a fussy eater, to be honest, and I still loved the cuisine in Denmark. So taking a food tour is one of the best ways to experience everything at once.

There is a chance to try Danish fish meatballs, Danish chocolate dessert (Flødebolle), hot dogs and more. Oh, and of course, the famous Danish Smørrebrød . I’m a fan of Flødebolle personally- nothing beats a sweet treat!

Combine the yummy food with your guide’s expertise and you are guaranteed to have a great trip. Not to forget the cycling!

Fan of cycling? Fan of eating? You can’t go wrong with booking the Copenhagen: 3-Hour Culinary Bike Tour .

6. Cargo Bikes and the Science of Happiness

A picture of 2 cargo bikes with 4 group members on them.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (40+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

One of the most unique Copenhagen bike tours is the Cargo Bikes and the Science of Happiness . Instead of cycling around Copenhagen on a normal traditional bike, you get to explore the city on a cargo bike.

Review which says "We really enjoyed our ride around the city in our cargo bike. The topic of our tour was the Science of Happiness and it was insightful into the lives and design of the Danish people and communities. We stopped along the route for a hot drink and had a lovely conversation. I would definitely recommend that you add this to your "things to try" while visiting Copenhagen."

I love tours that offer something a bit different and aren’t just the same as every other tour, and Cargo Bikes and the Science of Happiness offers this.

Another unique selling point for this tour is that the tour focuses on the “Science of Happiness” which is very applicable to Copenhagen. Did you know that Copenhagen is one of the happiest cities in the world ?

Taking a tour of Copenhagen on these unique bikes, combined with the unique focus on happiness, you’re destined to have a positive experience.

When I visited Copenhagen for the first time, I really felt the atmosphere straight away. Everyone is so relaxed anything phases them, it’s a really safe city too and I think the perfect example is that the locals don’t lock their bikes, they just leave them in the street and no one steals them.

The tour is also capped at 10, so you are guaranteed to have a personal experience. The tour is also offered in 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Russian)!

If you want a unique bike tour, this is the option for you!

7. Copenhagen: Private Bike Tour

A picture of Christiansborg Palace, another key stop along most Copenhagen bike tours.

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (80+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 3 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

Taking a Copenhagen bike tour is great. But taking a private bike tour is super duper really great ! Copenhagen: Private Bike Tour offers this, and you can’t go wrong with a private tour.

Review which says "If you want to get to know Copenhagen "properly", you should definitely do it by bike. The city itself is also easy to explore on foot because it is compact, but those who get around by bike see more in a reasonable amount of time. Above all, you see more when the tour is guided."

Having a private tour is the most personal experience you can have for any tour anywhere in the world. There are so many benefits that come with getting a private tour, it’s definitely worth it. And Copenhagen: Private Bike Tour is the best option.

You can ask your guide any questions you have without having a big group asking even more questions. You can also dictate how long you spend at each attraction. You can ask your guide to take photos of you at any moment. The list goes on!

I’m always hesitant to take private tours because of the price, but they always pay off.

Although it is a little more expensive, it is more than worth it. You get what you pay for. The company say you are able to “determine your own route and ride at your own pace” which is something you do not get with a group tour.

For the most premium bike tour of Copenhagen, book the Copenhagen: Private Bike Tour .

8. Copenhagen: Guided City Bike Tour

A group of 3 cyclists cycling through a street in Copenhagen.

⭐ RATING: 4.6 out of 5 Stars (80+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

As the 8th of these Copenhagen bike tours, Copenhagen: Guided City Bike Tour is yet another solid option to see the city on 2 wheels.

Review which reads "I am an experienced cyclist, but not in a busy city. My guide was able to guide through all of the controlled chaos that is in Copenhagen with pedestrian, cycling, and car traffic. She lead us by unloading trucks, tour buses, etc. Threading our way to the various sites. She also had some good stories to tell."

As the review says, Copenhagen can be hard to navigate on a bike without a guide. That’s why you should book any of these bike tours!

Copenhagen: Guided City Bike Tour , in particular, visits “90 % of Copenhagen’s highlights”, which in 2 hours is extremely impressive.

You can see most of the tourist spots in 2 hours and then spend the rest of your trip however you like! There are so many things to do that make Copenhagen worth visiting so getting all of the typical tourist sights out of the way earlier is a big advantage.

By booking this tour you also get a headset in order to hear your guide. This is pretty common with most tours. But this tour also offers rain gear and extra warm clothes, which can come in very handy if you visit Copenhagen when the weather isn’t so great.

The guides on this tour also encourage you to “strike up a conversation about life in Copenhagen” which shows how passionate this company is about you learning as much as possible throughout your tour.

While taking a tour is a great way of seeing the city, sometimes I want to know what living in it is like. A simple “so what’s it like living here?” can lead to great conversations, so much so that I can see myself living in Copenhagen in the future.

It’s hard to say no to seeing 90% of the attractions in 2 hours, and that’s why you should consider booking this tour for your trip to Copenhagen.

9. Copenhagen: 1.5-Hour Bike Tour

A picture of the Little Mermaid statue in Copenahgen.

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (220+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

The shortest of these Copenhagen bike tours is Copenhagen: 1.5-Hour Bike Tour lasting only an hour and a half which is the perfect option if you are short on time . It’s also rated highly with nearly 150 reviews and an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Review which says "This tour was such a highlight of our visit to Copenhagen. The guide was incredibly informed about the area, adding lots of funny stories and went with the vibe of the group."

As Copenhagen: Guided City Bike Tour is so short, you spend less time at each of the attractions. I still wouldn’t say it’s rushed though. The tour is averagely-paced, giving just enough time to see the attractions, take some photos and learn some quick facts.

You can also vote as a tour group to visit locations not on the original route or to skip locations too. Of course, it depends on the majority vote. This is a pretty cool feature, I have to say. I wish more tours did this.

With fun stories and anecdotes from the guide about Danish culture, you are guaranteed to have a productive 90 minutes in terms of education, fitness and sightseeing. 3 amazing things to pull together, right?

If you’re short on time or want to see Copenhagen quickly, you can’t beat booking the Copenhagen: Guided City Bike Tour

10. Copenhagen: Palace, Fountain, and Church Guided E-Bike Tour

A picture of St. Albans Church, a key stop along this particular Copenhagen bike tour.

⭐ RATING: 4.8 out of 5 Stars (25+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 2 hours | 🚲 BOOK NOW

If you aren’t the biggest fan of getting active and would prefer to take a tour on an electric bike , Copenhagen: Palace, Fountain, and Church Guided E-Bike Tour is the perfect tour for you.

Review which says "It was the highlight of our Copenhagen trip. The best way to get to know this city. We were not only taken to the most beautiful places but also guided off the tourist route and were thrilled. Great e-bikes, helmets available for free on request headsets to follow all the explanations and an open-minded nice guide who showed us his city."

Of course, taking a Copenhagen bike tour on an E-Bike really speeds up the process.

Copenhagen: Palace, Fountain, and Church Guided E-Bike Tour say that you can see as much in 2 hours on an E-Bike as you could in 3 hours on a normal bike. That’s quite the difference!

You don’t have to worry about keeping up with the group or putting in much physical activity, as the E-Bikes will drive themselves- all you really have to do is steer!

As the tour says, you get both sightseeing and fun in one tour! E-Bikes can go up to 30km/hr which is quite a thrilling experience.

I love electric bikes and scooters, they’re really fun. I actually experienced both for the first time in Scandinavia, bikes in Copenhagen and scooters in Stockholm so I can recommend the e-bikes here!

The tour itself is also quite unique as it focuses on palaces, fountains and churches. It’s definitely one to consider!

Want to combine fun and sightseeing? Take the Copenhagen: Palace, Fountain, and Church Guided E-Bike Tour .

Copenhagen is an extremely bike-friendly city. According to VisitCopenhagen.com , 44% of all trips to work or school in the Danish capital are made by bicycle.

Map of my Copenhagen self-guided bike tour

For those who want to do their own independent bike tour of Copenhagen, in this article I have outlined the exact route and stops that I followed on my last Copenhagen trip.

I have embedded a map below, so that you can see exactly where to go and how long it will take. I have designed an efficient bike route, so that you don’t find yourself cycling back and forth around the city.

This Copenhagen self-guided bike itinerary covers all the main attractions in the city, meaning you won’t miss a thing! As you can see from the embedded map below, the route only takes 40 minute or so to cycle.

That gives you plenty of time throughout the day to take your time with each stop, visiting the beauties of Copenhagen and taking coffee and food breaks along the way.

Copenhagen self-guided bike tour details

I always love a good map, but where exactly will you be going? I included a bit more information on each stop, and why you should be adding them to your Copenhagen itinerary .

Start in Tivoli – With its historic wooden roller coaster among many other attractions, this amusement park is world famous. It even inspired Walt Disney to create his own amusement park; Disneyworld.

Christiansborg Palace – Just a short cycle up the road is this Christiansborg Palace, which is the seat of the Danish parliament. It’s one of the most beautiful buildings in the entire city.

Borsen – Then it’s on to Borsen on your bike tour of Copenhagen. This 17th-century former stock exchange at the center of the city is also an important seat of government in the city.

Old Town (Indre By) – This colourful area is the most historic part of the city. Here’s where you’ll find many of Copenhagen’s sights, along with streets lined with charming old buildings.

There will be lots of pedestrians around, so make sure to be careful with your bike.

Nyhavn – An iconic part of Copenhagen. The 17th-century waterfront is renowned for its colourful townhouses that today play host to bars, cafes and restaurants.

Cycling along the canal, taking in the beautiful coloured houses and canal boats, is a unique experience that should feature on everyone’s Europe bucket list .

Here you’ll find also plenty of bars and restaurants with outdoors seating. You can take a break from the cycling, take a seat and enjoy some local Danish delicacies while enjoying the view.

Kastellet – Translating to “the Citadel”, this 17th-century fortress is a well-preserved star-shaped structure that still plays home to the Danish military to this day. Otherwise, it’s a tranquil place to hang out.

Little Mermaid – Nearby is arguably the most iconic sight in the whole city. You’ll find the statue of the Little Mermaid in human form, sitting on a rock gazing out to sea.

Should you join a bike tour or do it independently?

It ultimately depends on your travel style and preference, there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. Since you’re going around a city with plenty of cycling lanes, you can easily do it alone.

It’s not like going mountain biking on a dangerous route where you could get lost and need a guide. That said, having a local guide is always an added plus.

If you join a tour you will have a local guide taking you to all the best spots in Copenhagen, both the famous and hidden ones, and telling you about their history as you go.

It will obviously be less independent, but you will learn more about Copenhagen, plus if you’re a solo travellers it’s a great way to meet other people.

Regardless of whether you choose to do it alone or join a tour, in this article I have listed everything you need to know for both. From the self-guided route to follow, to the best tours you can join, you have all the info!

Your all-encompassing Copenhagen bike tour

For an all-encompassing bicycle tour of Denmark’s dynamic capital, look no further than the Copenhagen Highlights Bike Tour! In just 3 hours, your guided tour takes in Copenhagen City Hall, Christiansborg Palace, Royal Library, Old Stock Exchange, Nyhavn, Royal Danish Playhouse, Copenhagen Opera House, Amalienborg Palace, Marble Church, Little Mermaid, Kastellet, King’s Garden, and the Copenhagen Lakes. With the added benefit of bike rental, you can really capitalize on your time in Copenhagen, the ‘City of Spires’.

Your day tour starts at Copenhagen City Hall, an awe-inspiring Art Nouveau masterpiece with an ornate exterior complete with a glimmering gilded statue of Absalon. The hall also houses Jens Olsen’s World Clock! Here, your guide will also tell you about the Tivoli Gardens, visible from the City Hall and the world’s third oldest working amusement park. Your bicycle tour continues in this grand theme to Christiansborg Palace, the seat of Danish Parliament. The Palace is the only building in the world to house all three branches of a country’s government - executive, legislative, and judicial. Ride on to the Royal Library, one of the largest libraries in the world, comprising the old red brick building of 1906 and the 1999 Black Diamond Building.

Onwards to the Old Stock Exchange, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Built in 1625, this phenomenal building has been known for its iconic tower designed to look like four intertwined dragon tails. The copper roof you see today is comparatively recent - the original lead chosen by King Christian IV was removed to make cannonballs during the Swedish Occupation in 1658-9! Sadly, the entire building, including the spectacular tower, were engulfed in flames in April 2024 - a devastating accident for the people of Copenhagen.

Next on your bike tour is Nyhavn, the iconic rows of colorful buildings that line the canal. These charming buildings are predominantly townhouses and bars from the 17th and early 18th Centuries, and represent a quintessential Copenhagen backdrop.

Ride on to the Royal Danish Playhouse, which throws a resplendent reflection in the Frederiksstaden harborfront. Nearby, on the island of Holmen, you’ll find the Copenhagen Opera House, one of the most expensive venues of its kind ever built, at 2.5 billion DKK. Some of the materials used in this lavish building include Jura Gelb limestone, Sicilian Perlatino marble, maple wood, and gold leaf amounting to the equivalent of 1.5 kilos of gold!

Arriving at Amalienborg Palace, admire the official residence of the Danish Royal Family, comprising four palace facades in an octagonal courtyard wherein stands an enormous equestrian statue of King Frederick V, founder of Amalienborg. Your day tour moves on to the Marble Church, also known as Frederik’s Church. Likely inspired by the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, this resplendent rococo building is truly beautiful to behold. You’ll pedal next to the Langelinie promenade and park up your bicycle next to the iconic Little Mermaid, a brilliant bronze statue perched on a rock designed by Edvard Eriksen and depicting a mermaid becoming human.

Your guided bike tour continues to Kastellet, one of the best-preserved fortresses in Northern Europe, comprising a pentagon-shaped citadel with bastions at each corner. You'll then cycle around the King’s Garden, one of the oldest parks in Copenhagen. Your bike tour carries on to the Copenhagen Lakes, where you’ll be rewarded with an atmospheric oasis of tranquil rectangular lakes curving around the city’s western margin.

The Best 1-Day Copenhagen Bike Tour, from city to small towns

Sustainable travel expert, adventure seeker

Chicago, IL, USA

Copenhagen and cycling are essentially synonymous— the two exist in harmony, a match made in heath heaven. Believe it or not, there are more bikes in the city than actual residents. The bike scene is brimming with enthusiasts, structural innovators, and people like me who enjoy leisure exercise and saving a few bucks from skipping the metro. We’re talkin’ exploring Copenhagen on a serious budget .

Copenhagen’s neighborhoods have endless miles of trails, but that doesn’t mean you should relegate yourself to city limits. If you really want to see Denmark, you should hit the road for a 29-mile day bike from Copenhagen to the northern port city of Helsingør. With plenty of sights to see and cozy Copenhagen cafés along the way, this is an unforgettable way to spend a day in Denmark.

Here’s our favorite one-day Copenhagen bike tour:

Head North to Bellevue Beach

Bellevue Beach, Klampenborg, Denmark.

New riders in Copenhagen might feel a bit intimidated by the organized professionalism of other riders, lanes, and social norms of riding. Rest assured, after a few trips through town you’ll be feeling like a local— or at least a little bit less of a blatant tourist. The infrastructure for cyclists is impeccable, making inexperienced riders feel welcome and safe on the roads. Bikes take precedence over cars, making your exit from city limits an enjoyable and uneventful experience.

Your first Copenhagen bike tour stop will be Hellerup Strand , a beach about 25-minutes into your ride. This spot is popular with locals and can attract quite the crowd on a sunny day. Sunshine is unpredictable in Denmark, so when it peeks through the clouds you can count on everyone to be outside making the most of it. Take a water break here, and grab a smoothie or ice cream from a beachside vendor.

If you simply can’t get enough of the beach, Bellevue Strandbad is on the way up the coast right after Hellerup. This beach has a park area, if you’re already hungry for a picnic lunch. Bike rides and beach hopping – what more do you need in life?

Grab a bite at Café Rosenhuset

Café Rosenhuset, Vedbæk, Denmark. Credit: Café Rosenhuset

As soon as you pass city limits, you’ll be in awe of the charming Danish countryside towns. Although they’re fairly close to the capital, towns along the way such as Skodsborg and Vedbæk will make you feel like you’re in an old-timey Scandinavian storybook.

Café Rosenhuset is a casual, airy café right on the beach in Vedbæk . They have a light lunch menu, along with a rotating variety of pastries. This endearing café is a perfect place to rest your legs – you’ve made it halfway! Take a seat on the second level and bask in the views of the cool blue waters of the Øresund straight. A slice of midday cheesecake (if available) won’t hurt either.

Stop at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Helsingor, Denmark. EQRoy / Shutterstock.com

If you haven’t lingered too long at the beaches, take a break from your Copenhagen bike tour and stop to wander around the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art . This waterside art museum changes exhibits frequently, but always maintains an impressive collection of funky, avant-garde art. One of the more popular ongoing exhibits comes from Yayoi Kusama , a Japanese artist with a knack for mind-bending pieces.

After checking out the indoor exhibits, make your way outside to the outdoor sculpture garden before jumping back on your bike.

Arrive in Helsingør for Kronborg Castle

Kronborg Castle, Helsingør, Denmark. Dennis Jacobsen / Shutterstock.com

After a long bike tour around Copenhagen with breezy beach stops and artful ventures, you’ll simply have to take a seat in front of one of Denmark’s magnificent 15 th century castles. Helsingør is Hamlet’s hometown, if you’re one of those Shakespeare types. Kronborg Castle can be explored from the outside, or you can go inside for a reasonable fee.

Helsingør’s cobblestone streets are a relaxing final destination, with colorful homes peppering the streets up and down. This historical hotspot is best explored on foot – so take a break and lock up your bike.

Trek it Back to Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark.  Nikolay Antonov / Shutterstock.com

Ready for 29 more miles back to the city? You bet! If you’re lucky, you might catch some sunset shades while you meander back down the coast. If you’re feeling a bit exhausted from the day, you can hop on the train with your bike and ride back as a passenger, with ease. Get on the Öresundståg Line at Helsingør Street, and you’ll arrive at Copenhagen’s Central Station in a little under an hour.

The last item on your Copenhagen bike tour agenda is to enjoy an ice-cold Carlsberg or Tuborg beer back in city center – two of Copenhagen’s finest!

Admittedly, navigating the Danish capital’s bike networks can feel daunting if you’re new to the city. But don’t worry; as long as you stick to the rules, cycling in Copenhagen is incredibly safe and a joyous experience.

If you’re only in Denmark’s largest city for a few days, you can always join a tour. Here are some of the best cycling tours in Copenhagen.

Forgotten Giants e-Bike Treasure Hunt

The Forgotten Giants are some of Denmark’s best-kept secrets. Throughout the country (and further afield), you’ll find several large mythical statues. In the Copenhagen region, you’ll find four Hidden Giants – and this treasure hunt is the perfect option to find them.

During the tour, you’ll get to ride an e-bike – which is much kinder on your legs than on an ordinary bicycle. You’ll receive a bottle of water, along with safety equipment. The tour takes place in English, Danish, Russian, and Arabic.

The tour begins outside Nordvestkirken, which is in the district of Bispebjerg. Note that this church is different from the famous Grundtvigs Kirke so that you don’t get the meeting point confused.

Complete Copenhagen City Tour

Copenhagen has plenty of hidden gems just outside the city. If you travel slightly further up the island of Sjælland, for example, you’ll find acres of beaches and the likes of Frederiksborg Castle. But even if you never leave the downtown area, you’ll find plenty of things to see and do.

This tour gives you a complete picture of Copenhagen, and you’ll also see some of the lesser-visited parts of the city. For example, you’ll cycle across the architectural marvel known as Cykelslangen – a bridge designed exclusively for bicycles. You’ll also pass some of the city’s diverse architecture, such as the newly-built Kaktus Towers.

Of course, you’ll also get to see many of the main sights in the inner city. For example, you’ll get to see Amalienborg Palace – which is Denmark’s answer to Buckingham Palace.

Rent Your Own Bike

Although you’ll find plenty of bike tours in Copenhagen, arguably the best way to explore the Danish capital is by allowing yourself to wander aimlessly. The vast majority of streets have well-maintained bicycle paths, making it easy to get around (be careful in Frederiksberg, though, as some bike lanes are among the traffic).

If you want to explore Copenhagen by bike, you have several options. Many hotels in the city offer bike rentals for guests, with two examples being Scandic Kødbyen and WakeUp Borgergade .

Throughout the city, you’ll also notice several bright orange Donkey Republic bikes. You can rent these via the app and drop them off at numerous points in Copenhagen; how much you pay depends on the amount of time you ride the bike for.

Copenhagen also has numerous bicycle rental stores that let you borrow bikes for an affordable price. You can use the white Bycyklen bikes, too, but be warned – you’ll out yourself as a tourist because most locals don’t use these.

A Bicycle Adventure in Copenhagen

You might want to save the solo bike tour for after you’ve managed to get an idea of Copenhagen’s layout. So, what better way to do that than with this cycling tour of the city ?

Whereas the other bike tours we’ve mentioned go a little more off the beaten path, this is a better option if you want to see the main sights. You’ll pass by the iconic Nyhavn harbor, along with seeing Rosenborg Castle and several other tourist attractions.

The tour is operated by Scandinavian Guides, and you can meet at a souvenir shop in the city center. Note that a maximum of 15 people can book this tour.

A Private Tour With a Local

If you’re looking for something that doesn’t involve a lot of strangers, consider booking this private tour instead. You’ll meet on Åboulevard, which separates the Frederiksberg and Nørrebro districts. During the trip, you’ll see some of the locals’ favorite spots – such as Islands Brygge, which is a great place to relax when the sun’s out.

Is Denmark A Socialist Country 1

Defining the Danes: Is Denmark a socialist country?

During the tour, you’ll get a better understanding of how Copenhagen works as a city. And as you wander the bike lanes on your two-wheeled companion, you’ll get to enjoy how everything works perfectly in sync.

The route will vary from tour to tour, so you can enjoy a nice surprise each time.

Tips for Taking a Bike Tour in Copenhagen

When you participate in a bicycle tour in Copenhagen, remember that you’re sharing bike lanes with the locals. While the locals are typically a friendly bunch, acting like a nuisance on your bicycle is a great way to learn Danish profanities – and we don’t recommend it.

Here are some useful tips to follow:

  • Keep to the right-hand side of the bike lane. In Copenhagen, the outer side of the bike lane is for people to overtake and ride faster. Stay close to the pavement if you’re going to take a leisurely ride through the city, and move there if someone rings their bell.
  • Keep a single file on busy streets. Most bike lanes in Copenhagen can fit two normal-sized bikes. Try to cycle in a single line, though, as it can be annoying if two people are biking next to each other.
  • Use hand signals. Use your left hand if you’re turning left and right for the other direction. If you’re stopping to get off your bike or to change direction, put your hand up; you don’t need to do this when stopping at a red light.

Plenty of Ways to Enjoy the World’s Most Bicycle-Friendly City

You’ll find plenty of bicycle tours in Copenhagen, and the city is perfect for getting around on two wheels. A well-developed infrastructure makes getting around a breeze, and many of the Danish capital’s best sights are close to one another.

When visiting Copenhagen, you can check out the main sights and find other tours that show you the less-trodden paths. And, of course, you can always rent your own bike and explore for yourself.

What are the most important bicycle rules we should be aware of in Copenhagen?

Always keep to your right and make way for other cyclists wanting to overtake you. When you need to make left hand turns in intersections then you cannot turn diagonally with the cars. You will have to go straight across and then wait for the green light signal to go over again. For a more visual explanation then please see: http://cycleguide.dk/2010/05/how-to-do-a-hook-turn/

Using your phones while e-biking is also prohibited and you can get a fine should the police catch you. If you need to take pictures then make a full stop and do so.

Wearing safety helmets are not a requirement but at your own discretion, personal need for comfort safety. We do recommend it especially if you are not used to biking. We will always be advocates of putting your safety first and therefore helmets are included in all tours and rentals.

Du vil elske læskende retter i København.

Assault that left Danish PM 'shaken' likely not 'politically motivated'

A 39-year-old Polish man, apprehended after hitting Mette Frederiksen on Friday evening on a Copenhagen square, was remanded in custody until June 20.

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen attends a ceremony at the Danish monument outside of Sainte Marie du Mont, Normandy, on June 6, 2024.

Danish authorities said on Saturday, June 9, that an attack on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, which she said left her "shaken" but "fine," was not thought to be politically motivated.

A 39-year-old Polish man, apprehended after hitting the prime minister on Friday evening on a Copenhagen square, was remanded in custody until June 20 after appearing before a court in the Danish capital, prosecutor Taruh Sekeroglu told reporters.

"It is not our guiding (...) hypothesis that there is a political motive here. But that is something that the police of course will investigate," Sekeroglu said. Sekeroglu said the man was suspected of violence against a public servant and deemed a flight risk. In a post on social media platform Instagram on Saturday evening, the head of government said she needed "peace and quiet."

"I am saddened and shaken by the incident yesterday, but otherwise I am fine," said Frederiksen, 46. She thanked people for the "many, many, many messages of support and encouragement," and said she now needed to be with her family. Frederiksen's office told Agence France-Presse (AFP) earlier that she had been taken to a hospital for a check-up after the attack which had caused a "minor whiplash injury."

Suspect intoxicated

During the hearing on Saturday, the prosecution presented a statement from a doctor describing the defendant as mentally unbalanced and intoxicated, Danish media reported. Broadcaster DR said police had described the man, who denied being guilty of a crime, as "probably both under the influence of substances and drunk" when arrested.

The broadcaster also reported that while in court the prosecutor asked if the man could remember what he was doing between 5:30 pm local time and 5:45 pm the day before. "To be completely honest, then no, not much," the man replied, according to DR.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday joined European leaders in denouncing the attack, labeling it "unacceptable," in a statement on X. "I strongly condemn this act and wish Mette Frederiksen a speedy recovery," Macron added.

Two witnesses, Marie Adrian and Anna Ravn, told newspaper BT they had seen Frederiksen arrive at the square while they were sitting at a nearby fountain, just before 6 pm on Friday. The newspaper cited the women as saying that a man gave Frederiksen "a hard shove on the shoulder, causing her to fall to the side" but not hit the ground. It said they described the man as tall and slim and said he had tried to hurry away but did not get far before being grabbed and pushed to the ground by men in suits.

'Despicable act'

The attack was widely condemned by leading European politicians, including EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, who said it was a "despicable act which goes against everything we believe and fight for in Europe." In 2019, Frederiksen became the country's youngest prime minister at the age of 41 and kept the post after emerging victorious in the 2022 general election.

The incident follows a spate of attacks on European politicians from across the political spectrum ahead of this week's EU elections. Several politicians in Germany have been attacked at work or on the campaign trail.

On May 15, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot four times at close range as he greeted supporters after a government meeting. Fico, who survived the assassination attempt, underwent two lengthy hospital surgeries.

Danes head to the polls for their EU vote on Sunday.

How to plan a design-focused cycling tour of Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city

With sinuous canals, half-timbered houses and well-connected cycleways, this bastion of Swedish design is best explored by bicycle.

Ringed by the waters of the Baltic, the Kattegat and the Øresund, Malmö is Sweden’s third-largest city. Originally part of Denmark, it became Swedish in 1658. Today, you get the sense that the southern port city is thumbing its nose at both Copenhagen and Stockholm by remaining far cheaper to live in than either capital — and in doing so, it’s attracted a crowd of dedicated creatives unafraid of experimentation.

Great design is the lifeblood of Malmö — right down to the layout of its bike paths, earning it a reputation as one of Europe’s most bicycle-friendly cities. While you’ll find many of Malmö’s treasures around the walkable Gamla Staden (‘Old Town’), renting a bike will allow you to capture the full sweep of the city. Pedalling from bohemian Möllevången to ultramodern Västra Hamnen, you’ll witness the complete evolution of southern Swedish design — from its origins in the courts of kings right up to the present day.

1. Mitt Möllan

Pick up a bike at one of Donkey Republic’s many rental stations and head to Mitt Möllan, a collection of independent design boutiques in multicultural Möllevangen. Browse handmade North African ceramics at La Kasbah and rune-stamped rings at Pill & Punch before stopping for a bite in the food court, where you’ll find couples sharing bao buns and bento boxes beneath paper mobiles crafted by Swedish designer Egil Jansson.

2. Artibus Malmö

This artist cooperative provides studio space for 30 of Malmö’s ceramicists. Members range from hobbyists to seasoned professionals, with many selling   their reactive-glaze vases and hand-thrown tableware in the shop. The space is usually only open on the first weekend of every month and on weekends throughout December, though it can sometimes be visited outside of these times if you enquire in advance.

3. Moderna Musset

Cross into the Gamla Staden (Old Town) for Malmö’s main contemporary art museum. Housed in a former electricity plant that opened in 1901, it was given a modern makeover in 2008 by Swedish architect firm Tham & Videgård, who replaced its industrial brickwork with a striking electric orange facade. The upstairs galleries stage rotating exhibitions, while the boutique sells minimalist mobiles and other art-themed homeware.

two men walking beside their bikes in the city

4. Form/Design Centre

Don’t leave the Old Town without paying a visit to Malmö’s unofficial design headquarters. A workshop and gallery space dedicated to all things craft, it hosts regular exhibitions on thought-provoking topics such as sustainability and semantics. The shop is packed with independent Swedish design, with globular glass sculptures by lighting brand Swedish Ninja sitting alongside traditional throws by Klippan Yllefabrik.

5.   Malmöhus Castle

A museum of two halves, this vast and varied labyrinth displays everything from stuffed leopards to leopard-skin coats. The upper level holds a plethora of highly functional household furnishings and decorations from the 1950s’   ‘golden age’ of Scandinavian design. You’ll also find a recreation of an interior from the Gustavian Era (1772-1809), a period many historians claim laid the foundations for 20th-century Swedish design.

End with dinner at Aster, a design-focused grill restaurant where the dishes are as aesthetically pleasing as the berrylike lighting fixtures. Expect artfully charred skewers garlanded with herbs and vegetables from the owners’ garden. It’s located in the Västra Hamnen (Western Harbour) and presided over by the Turning Torso, a 623ft-high, twisting skyscraper by Spanish sculptor and architect Santiago Calatrava.

2024 Tour de Suisse: Yves Lampaert wins stage 1 time trial

Yves Lampaert (Soudal-QuickStep) blasted to the opening victory in the Tour de Suisse, a short, ultra-fast individual time trial through the streets of Vaduz.

Second was Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-Easy Post), three seconds back, with Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) in third.

Averaging a speed of over 56kmh, the flying Lampaert established an early best time of 5:05 for the technical, flat 4.77 km course, held over a mixture of bike paths, rural lanes and city streets.

The former Belgian National TT champion held on throughout the afternoon of variable weather conditions to take his first win since the 2022 Tour de France opening TT on the streets of Denmark.

Lampaert will now lead the Tour de Suisse into its second rolling stage from Vaduz to Regensdorf, likely to end in a reduced bunch sprint.

“I didn’t expect to beat the Swiss specialists like Bissegger and [Stefan] Kung,” Lampaert said afterwards. “I’m really proud to do it, I know this distance suits me well.”

With his previous win now nearly two years distant, Lampaert said that he was delighted to be able to add a second stage victory in Suisse to the time trial triumph he captured back in the 2019 edition of the race.

“Yes, absolutely, nowadays the level is so high in cycling, at one moment I started to doubt myself. But I never gave up believing and kept training as well as possible. So it gives me a lot of satisfaction that I could take the victory today.”

How it unfolded

Racing started at just after 2 pm, with plenty of the top names opting for an early time to try and beat the difficult weather conditions forecast for later in the day. Of the 162 riders taking part, Jan Sommer (Switzerland National Team) was the first to go down the start ramp, but double Portuguese TT national champion Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) quickly went top of the leader’s board with a time of 5:12.

With riders off at minute intervals the changes to the provisional ranking looked set to come thick and fast. The first surprise, though, was that local TT star Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) failed to oust Almeida from the top spot, the former European Time Trial Champion falling four seconds short. An even bigger one came when after beginning his race just over half an hour after the first starter, Lampaert put no less than seven seconds into the Portuguese racer’s time, consequently gaining a spot in the hot seat the 33-year-old Belgian was destined to keep for the rest of the day.

The strength of Lampaert’s top provisional time of 5:05 became steadily clearer as riders of the calibre of Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) and reigning Swiss TT champ Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost)  were unable to topple it. Try as they might on a course which featured a little of everything in four kilometres, from city roads to country back lanes to a segment of bike path running alongside a river, Lampaert continued to rule the rankings.

The rain that set in with around an hour’s racing left certainly played in Lampaert’s favour, just as the change in weather from dry to wet had done in Copenhagen two years ago. But the fact of the matter was that he had set a very impressive time and regardless of the favourable circumstances, that was the bar that had to be broken.

In fact none of the final wave of riders came close to troubling Lampaert with former Tour de France stage winner Søren Kragh Andersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) the only late starter who broke into the top ten.

Barring disasters, such a short course was never going to have a huge impact on the GC. So although Almeida now goes into the remainder of the eight-day course as the best-placed overall favourite, last year’s overall winner Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) at 11 seconds,  Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) is at 15 seconds, Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) at 19 seconds, and none of the other favourites is too far distanced.

What is certain is the four summit finishes to come in the second half of the race, as well as an uphill time trial on the final day that still await the 2024 Tour de Suisse peloton will surely establish far bigger differences.

Prior to the feast of Alpine climbing on offer in Suisse this year, stage 2  from Vaduz to Regensdorf will be finely balanced between favouring the breakaways and the sprinters, with two cat.2 climbs early on and a cat.3, the Regensberg, peaking out just 12 kilometres from the finish.

“I think tomorrow [Monday] is a really nice stage, probably a lot of the sprinters can make it also,” Lampaert observed. “Let’s hope it’s a sprint stage with a small group and I can try to keep the jersey.”
