Travel + Leisure / David Hattan

The day you scratch the heck out of your favorite sunglasses on some detritus at the bottom of your travel bag wilI be the last day you go without a case. It doesn’t have to be expensive or boast a designer label, but a basic sunglass case is an absolute must to protect your shades from ruin on any kind of trip.

Our picks for the best sunglasses cases include softside and hardside picks, plus options in every type of material, from recycled polyester to metal. A good option is both protective and portable so we love that our top choice folds completely flat when the shades are on your face — a smart space saver for travel days. Check out the eight best cases below.

Best Overall

Real sic magnetic hard case.

This hardshell case folds down to store completely flat so it takes up less space when you’re not using it.

Smaller sunglasses may slide out of this folding case as it is plenty roomy.

For travel, compactness and efficiency is always the name of the game — and this simple-but-smart sunglasses case checks those boxes nicely. It weighs just above four ounces, and folds completely flat for compact storage in your bag when the glasses are on your face.

This case is also made of vegan leather, so it’s cruelty-free, plus rings in at a budget-friendly price point. You can scoop up several if you like to travel with multiple pairs and you just may be tempted to do so as this smartly designed case comes in 26 different colors. It has a reasonably rugged hard shell and closes by magnet, so there are no buttons or snaps to break either.

The Details: 7.5 x 4 x 0.6 inches | Vegan leather | Magnetic closure

Best Hard Case

Madewell sunglass case.

This hard case is totally protective — and just plain cute for tropical travels.

There’s only one color and size available.

This classic clamshell-closure hard case made of rugged coated canvas is a longtime favorite among Madewell fans, available in various styles over time. It strikes just the right balance between ample size and compactness, with room for even oversized sunnies without any risk of sliding out on the go. Best of all, the cute woven style makes an ideal accessory for your next beach vacation.

The Details: Cotton | Clamshell closure

Best Soft Case

Chums sleeper polyester case.

This lightweight case has plush padding and a zipper closure to keep your sunnies fully secure in any conditions.

The outdoorsy look skews more casual than elegant.

This sleeping bag-like case from 40-year-old brand Chums evokes camping gear, but it’s ideal for everyday, all-purpose use, too. The padded case has a zipper closure to keep your specs secure, and the super-soft lining protects lenses from scratching — even in a rugged outdoor environment. Plus, it’s lightweight and compact, so it preserves precious bag space.

The Details: 10.19 x 3.63 x 0.75 inches | Fleece and polyester | Zipper closure

Best Leather

Ray-ban leather sunglass case.

It’s a timeless, all-purpose carrying solution in rugged genuine leather.

This case is conveniently roomy for larger frames, but expect it to take up a fair amount of real estate in your travel bag.

This Ray-ban case is simply a classic. It’s made of real leather with a foldover flap and snap closure, plus a super-soft lining to protect lenses. It’s roomy enough for big sunglasses, and structured enough to protect them thoroughly. Bonus: It also comes with a lens-cleaning cloth to keep inside for swiping out smudges on the go.

The Details: 6 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches | Leather | Snap closure

Oakley Large Metal Vault

Metal makes this case durable and ultra-protective.

Expect the shiny exterior to show some scratches and dings (even while the case keeps the contents fully protected).

Oakley doesn’t call this case a “vault” for nothing: Its metal hard shell affords serious protection for your most precious (or fragile) shades. The look skews punk rock, but a soft lining banishes scratches. And, although the slim case is durable and compact, it is deceptively lightweight and roomy on the inside as well.

The Details: Metal | Clamshell closure

CAMP Eyewear Accessory Pouch, Sleeping Bag

This multifunctional zipper pouch attaches to gear or clothing, and it’s sustainably made.

The soft exterior may not provide much protection against smashing or crushing.

This zippered pouch is a case for sunglasses, but it’s also a hard-working multitasker for travel. Its versatile shape securely holds all sorts of small accessories — think headphones, keys, and pens — with a zipper closure and protective microfiber interior. (It can even help keep a small beverage insulated in a pinch.) The paracord loop means you can attach this to any gear or clothing so it won't get smushed inside a larger bag. Plus, it's made out of 100-percent post-consumer recycled polyester.

The Details: 6.75 x 3.25 inches | Recycled polyester | Zipper closure

Best for Multiple Pairs

Biovioy glasses organizer.

With a smart roll-up design, this case holds five pairs at once, and it conveniently hangs at your destination for display and storage.

The tradeoff for holding five pairs is that this case is bulky in a bag.

This thoughtfully designed case holds five pairs of glasses, so you don't have to leave your favorites at home — or you can tote shades for the whole family at once. It’s also genius for use at a hotel, Airbnb, or even at home: When you unfold the case, you can hang it anywhere by the attached loop to store and display your frames.

The Details: PU | Snap closure

PPIOOY Glasses Case

This sunglass case comes with two different lengths of lanyards with many practical carrying applications for travel.

This case may not securely hold smaller-sized sunnies.

This soft, leather-like case has a novel approach to storing sunglasses: It holds the arms securely on the outside while protecting lenses from scratching inside the pouch. It’s super practical for travel as it also comes with two lanyards — one longer and one shorter — so you can wear it around your wrist or your neck, or clasp it onto a bag. Plus, six color choices from neutral to bold just may tempt you to wear it like an accessory, too.

The Details: 7.09 x 4.33 x 0.59 inches | PU | Snap closure

Tips for Buying a Sunglasses Case

Consider the size.

When it comes to travel, size matters: You’ll want a case as compact as possible to take up precious little space in your bag. But you’ll also need one adequately big enough for your frames as well as the number of pairs you’re traveling with.

Choose the best material and style

First decide where and when you’ll use this item. Rugged adventurers may prefer a hard-shelled case in metal or leather. Day trippers might prefer a more compact style, such as a sleeve or soft-sided case, in lightweight materials like polyester. If you’re transporting your sunglasses in a purse or carry-on, softside cases with plush lining may be all the protection you need. But if you’re tossing the case into a checked bag, protective styles and hardy fabrics are key.

Yes, you can use eyeglasses and sunglasses cases interchangeably as long as your frames fit inside. But you should also be able to store all your glasses at the same time when you need to — say, when you get in the pool and have none on your face at all. So, for two pairs, you’ll need at least a second sleeve or multi-pair storage case to store both at once in the same location.

The primary point of a case is to protect the delicate lenses — so do your part by inserting your glasses with care. Place them in with the lenses facing up (not down) if the case is the type with a distinct top and bottom, and consider putting a cleansing cloth on top for added lens protection.

How long your sunglasses case will last depends entirely on the specifics of the case itself. Cases made of rugged, durable materials like leather may hold up longer, even for many years, compared with some manmade alternatives. (In some cases, durability and quality correspond to cost — but not always.) Sunglass cases with fewer working parts like hinges and snaps tend to last longer as there are fewer components that could break.

There’s no hard and fast rule as each type can run the full gamut of price ranges but you may find hard cases to be more expensive than soft ones. This is because the materials might be more substantial (such as metal or leather over polyester), or there may be more hardware involved (such as hinges and clasps).

Best Quality. The Chums Sunglass Polyester Case is going to be your shades’ BFF! This eyeglass case is a high-value imported product from China. So, made from fleece and polyester, the case is sturdy as well as durable. As a result of that, the cover performed to perfection on our trips to the Gulf deserts a month back. On top of that, it’s light like a feather, and you will find it a breeze to slip it into your backpack.

There’s more – we weren’t worried that our favorite lenses would get scraped up inside, thanks to the warm and soft fleece lining on the interiors of the sleeper. If you want fool-proof security for your high-end shades, we say, you take a look at the Smith & Wesson Glasses Pouch! It might look ordinary. In reality, it’s anything but that! We used the pouch a couple of days back on our trip to India. We wanted a hell of a cover to keep our shades intact, considering the rough use across the Indian countryside. Well, it did the job! Made from hardwearing materials, the pouch was able to take and absorb harsh handling. Plus, it has a velcro closure at the end that safely holds back our eyewear from falling out. Smith & Wesson Glasses Pouch - by Amazon

Best Versatility. This may be the best designer organizer on the market! The BOSHKU Sunglasses Organizer is simply a class apart. Our experience? We were overwhelmed with its so many exciting features! To begin with, the case is constructed from a hard and durable material that keeps the contents safe from external threats. But the hardness doesn’t necessarily diminish its beauty. In fact, it’s quite chic and complements so many trendy looks with its outright versatility. What most buyers (including us) found super useful was a proper organization for a bunch of glasses. This amazing strategic feature allows us to store our blue blockers, sunnies, and reading glasses all in the same place.

Aside from that, the box has a lovely folding design that turns into a pentagonal roll with a secure buttoned closure. Plus, each compartment inside has elastic straps fixed with velcro so that everything stays put in the right place. So, considering the awesomeness, we guess this does fit the bill, doesn’t it?

  • The compartments are spacious for big glasses.
  • It can also be used as a hanging organizer.
  • The style is suited to both men and women.
  • The size may be larger than what you want.

Presenting the top option when it comes to stylishness and quality, here’s the Ray-Ban Original Leather Case! Another chic and strong case for ray ban sunglasses, this case is made of 100 percent leather! Frankly speaking, being leather, we naturally expected it to be tough and strong. And, you know what? It sure was! Aside from that, the interior offered a soft feel to our eyeglasses as well as maximum protection from random scratches and rubs.

On top of that, we found the case extremely compact and designed for the user’s convenience. In addition to that the construction is very light so it added no extra weight to our carry-ons – making it highly portable! Finally, as we mentioned before, this is a product of Ray-Ban! Heard the name, right? So, it’s a true representation of class and functionality. That means it’s a travel case for sunglasses that brings more value to the table than you can imagine!

Also, go over this interesting tutorial of real vs. fake ray ban cases by Voice of People Today on YouTube!

Coming straight from a top-rated brand from China, the RayLove 3 Pack Sunglasses Case is a fitting choice for those looking to use convenience without compromising on looks! Well, for one thing, it’s definitely fashionable, isn’t it? So, made out of synthetic EVA material with a soft wall inside, the pouch came in handy for hassle-free storage of our expensive eyewear. We carried it in the handbag wherever we traveled, and it occupied little to no space.

Besides being a space-saver, this case offered exemplary protection for shades with its semi-hard texture. The clip is the cherry on top because it lets us attach the pouch to our backpack. Honestly, it will be an exciting gift for anyone traveling with high-end sunnies. Also, a feature to mention is the themed zippered closure that makes the case all the more user-friendly. In a nutshell, this has been a worthy buy for us regarding our sunnies’ protection. Yeah, we recommend it!

  • The case is good for multiple styles of lenses.
  • It’s a trendy yet practical solution.
  • You can use it indoors and outdoors.
  • A buyer reviewed the product as bad-smelling.

Let’s check out the LTOHOE Sunglasses Case , a reliable sanctuary that is more than just ordinary storage for your glasses! Made to perfection, we view this safe as a classy travel partner for our sunnies. It’s fashionable as well as versatile enough to complement a variety of looks. Of course, from the very look, we could tell the cover was rugged and heavy-duty. However, when tested we got a first-hand experience that we are sharing here. Basically, it’s a silicone rubber construction that serves as a solid shield for glasses of all kinds. That means it keeps its contents unharmed during rough outdoor adventures.

Apart from that, a soft lining inside effectively ensures that the sunnies stay free from damaging scratches against the case’s inner walls. Further, the case is compatible with sunglasses of many styles. So, all in all, it’s an impressive clip on sunglasses case featuring a combo of style and usability!

  • You can toss it around without breaking your sunnies.
  • The case is handy and lightweight.
  • It comes with a microfiber cloth for extra protection.
  • A user reported that the clip broke on first use.

The Londo Genuine Leather Case is a convenient accessory for our travels. It proved to be a super cool shade holder – offering us sufficient versatility for all outdoor events! The case is a reliable and sturdy construction of genuine cowhide leather. So, it unquestionably adds to our bold style while giving heavy-duty protection to our designer shades. Apart from that, no matter how hard the outer shell is, this soft layer inside the case prevents our shades from getting scratched up. Awesome, right? Well, there’s more! We were pretty impressed with the sleek yet artisanal raw look. Honestly, men in our group particularly loved the “masculine” look. However, it’s a top choice for women too. Additionally, the cover has a sturdy make, so it can take rough use during travel in a stride. So, it’s a solid option, to say it all!

The Biovioy Glasses Organizer is the ultimate choice for the modern traveler on the move! We adored it and so will you. To begin with, the chic accessory is made of a premium kind of plastic, PU, which is both high-quality and hardwearing. Plus, the central feature is the five simple pouches, clubber together in one organizer, that can all carry any style of sunglasses. So, it makes the case a must-have pick for travelers with multiple pairs of lenses. Aside from that, the design proved strong enough to ensure that our eyewear wouldn’t suffer accidental damage from harsh handling as we traveled.

In addition to that, also note that it’s not made only for jet-setters. We also use it at home – just to organize our eyeglasses in a safe setting. So, it is a nice option for the price; we rate this as a practical option for the careful organization of multiple sets of glasses!

On a side note, perhaps you’d like to take a look at the best sunglasses on a budget. Wouldn’t you?

  • The case is great for both men and women.
  • It will easily fit into your travel stuff.
  • You get a 30-day money-back guarantee from the seller.
  • With big glasses, it may be difficult to close the case.

We rate the Vera Bradley Women’s Glasses Case very highly in terms of style and quality! In fact, this large sunglasses case complements our travel in so many ways. Basically, it’s made from top-quality polyester and comes off as a stylish yet decent protection for our frames. There are two compartments in the case, making it possible for us to carry two sets of glasses (specs and shades, maybe?) at the same time. The two-in-one feature was a rare quality to us because not all cases on the market offer that.

Aside from that, we liked how the case easily went with anything we wore. So, it’s definitely not a dowdy old case that you need to keep inside but an accessory that you can flaunt to highlight your style! Also, it’s tough and durable. With this shade cover, we recently took a trip halfway around the world. And it did great!

P.S. Have a look at the official listing as well as customer reviews for a better assessment of the product.

  • The material is lightweight microfiber.
  • The case is compatible with machine washing.
  • It will easily fit in your carry bag.
  • There’s no closure, so the frames could slip out.

Best Value for Money. For hardcore expeditions in the wild, we found nothing better than the ACEXIER MOLLE Glasses Pouch to hold our sunnies! Made from tough and high-tenacity nylon fabric, the pouch effectively withstands the elements that would naturally take a toll on your gear. Apart from that, the overall protection is quite impressive. For instance, we could throw around our backpacks and stuff without fearing that we would smash our darling shades! But, of course, that’s not something we’d intentionally do. Also, the interior lining is pretty soft and cozy, and that’s the perfect thing for a pair of glasses to prevent unwanted scratches on the lenses.

Moreover, what’s particularly interesting is the expanded portability with MOLLE straps that allow us to attach the pouch to our belts, vests, backpacks, rucksacks, etc. So, it is a well-designed, practical choice for our crazy hikes!

  • The pouch is a top option for outdoors.
  • You get good value for the buck.
  • It’s suited for reading lenses plus sunglasses.
  • The pouch might fall off if not snapped right.

Best Portability. Embrace the elegance of leather with the PPIOOY Glasses Case Holder ! The accessory turned out an all-weather friend to our eyeglasses and sunshades! Made of soft PU leather, the case is soft and cozy. It gives our sunnies a foolproof protection against threats like unwanted scratches and weather damage. Also, on a side note, as we run our fingers over the case surface, it feels super luxurious and chic. Besides that, this product is no sweat to maintain and can be cleaned out with just a bit of a hand wash.

In addition, we loved the foldable design, which comes in handy when you’re on the go and just want to stuff everything into your travel bag. So, since it’s slim and folds, it takes no extra space in our carry-on when not in use. Finally, with a metal snap fastener, the case offers top-level perfection both in terms of looks and practicality!

Also, here are some of the best brands for sunglasses, in case you’re interested.

  • The case is beautiful, soft, and textured.
  • It will give you many years of service.
  • There are multiple color choices for you.
  • It’s not smash-proof in case somebody sits on your glasses!

One of our personal favorites, the Real Sic Magnetic Folding Hard Case , is exactly what you need to protect your chic shades from travel damage! We found the hard case pretty handy because of its revolutionary telescopic design that turns flat when it’s not in use. So that makes it a breeze to carry in your pocket or bag compartments. Further, constructed from heavy-duty eco-leather, the case is an extremely thoughtful product. It’s not just the leather quality but, essentially, the fact that no animals were harmed in the making of this case. How thoughtful, isn’t it?

We were impressed with the reliable performance given the reasonable price. A great buy, indeed! WOW Travel

Aside from that, the inner core is made from top-notch aluminum and cardboard. Well, that is to give the case a solid backbone to hold your expensive shades just the right way. On top of that, there are multiple color options – and, taking advantage of the amazing variety, we snapped up quite a collection of these!

  • The case fits glasses of most sizes.
  • There’s a magnetic lock for safe closure.
  • It’s suited for rugged use outdoors.
  • With the glasses in, it takes up some space in your bag.

Best Overall. If you’re after a next-level hard case to provide your Polaroids with extra protection, we give you the Flying Fisherman Sunglass Case! Constructed from top-notch EVA material, the case is durable and sturdy. Unlike most semi-hard cases, this option is crushproof, and we can toss it around without worrying about damaging our high-value shades. Aside from that, it’s a sporty case for eyewear that we are able to use back-to-back and in wild adventures to guard our lenses against the rough and tumbles of hiking, biking, skiing, and all. Another feature that came in handy was the good-for-all quality. As a versatile case, we have used the case to keep several different glasses of various styles and brands.

And the dynamic dimensions of the case fit them all perfectly. Further, there’s a zipper closure for ease of use as well as maximum security. So, to say the least, getting one should be a no-brainer! The product pays you back in full!

  • It’s a good-for-all eyewear case.
  • The interior is soft and prevents scratches.
  • There’s a clip for hassle-free attachment.
  • A user found the clip cheap quality-wise.

We found the Flying Fisherman Sunglass Case as the best overall option, considering the many amazing features. However, we rate other top options pretty highly in terms of their specific features. Check them out below!

  • Best value for money: ACEXIER MOLLE Glasses Pouch
  • Best quality: Chums Sunglass Polyester Case
  • Best versatility: BOSHKU Sunglasses Organizer
  • Best portability: PPIOOY Glasses Case Holder

How to Choose the Best Sunglasses Cases for Travel?

You need to consider multiple factors when choosing a sunglasses case for travel. However, we usually look at just three important features that help us pick the right thing no matter how many choices we face. So, what are the key points to go over? Let’s see them below!

The first thing we look at in a shades cover is the construction of the product. Of course, what you need is enough space in the case to accommodate eyewear of different styles, shapes, and brands. So, it should be spacious. Plus, it should be lasting and tough.

We want the style of the case to match several different settings. That lets us use the cover on more than one occasion. For example, while traveling, we may be attending a concert or a party, and everything from the shades to the cover has to be versatile enough to suit the situation. That’s how we go!

Finally, it’s super important that the pouch or cover is portable enough for easy and hassle-free carriage. Sometimes, they come with a strap that you can attach to your backpack, jacket, or travel gear. That’s good. On the other hand, a sunglasses case should be compact enough to fit in any bag or hand luggage. So, portability matters.

It’s best to use a hard case to store your sunglasses when traveling to save them from the consequences of rough use.

Most top brands provide a case with their sunglasses for a better user experience. Take Ray Ban sunglasses cases, for example. Basically, a sunglasses case can help avoid unwanted damage to your lenses. It can prevent costly mishaps like your sunnies being stepped on or scratched.

The best way to protect your sunglasses is to keep them in a soft case when not in use. This will make sure that your glasses do not suffer scratches, smashes, cracks, etc.

TRUST US. WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 109 YEARS.

We know one size does not fit every face. Trust us, we’ve being doing this for over 100 years!

Need help finding your size? Refer to MEASUREMENTS on each product page, grab your favorite frames and compare.

This is the width of a single lens and how we numerically size our frames.

This is the width of the frame front from edge-to-edge.

MOSCOT recommends size based on face width: narrow for smaller faces and wide for larger faces.

If your face is on the slimmer side or hats tend to be loose.

Most MOSCOT customers are comfortable in this range. If you're unsure, choose these sizes.

If your head is on the wider side or hats tend to be a bit snug.

If your head is especially wide, or hats require a bit extra room.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

travel sunglass case

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

travel sunglass case

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

travel sunglass case

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

travel sunglass case

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

travel sunglass case

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

travel sunglass case

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
