In our Travelers' Health Service, infectious disease specialists and nurse practitioners provide you personalized counseling on necessary precautions, immunizations, medications and medical care for travel-related illnesses.

Vehicle registration fees increasing in Maryland this summer
Vehicle registration fees will increase in Maryland this summer.
The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration said the new prices that take effect July 1 are based on the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act of 2024.
"As directed by state law, the MVA is required to adjust vehicle registration fees that will help provide critical revenue for the Transportation Trust Fund, which ensures all of the state's infrastructure is in a state of good repair," Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer said in a statement. "In order to make these new fees as affordable as possible, the MVA is now offering customers the convenient option to choose either a one or two-year registration at time of their renewal."
The methods that states use to determine vehicle registration fees varies widely across the country. Some states factor in a vehicle's weight and/or age, its miles per gallon performance, the vehicle type and whether it's registration for a new car or a renewal.
In Maryland, the new base rate for registration fees -- which have not changed since 2004 -- is based on vehicle class and weight. The typical passenger car weighing up to 3,500 pounds will incur a fee of $110.50 after July 1. For two years, it'll cost $221 -- that's a more than 60% increase over the previous fees.

In all, the new rates represent about a 60% to 70% increase. The rules also set up new weight classes for passenger vehicles.
For one-year vehicle registrations in surrounding states, Delaware costs $40, Pennsylvania costs $45, Virginia costs about $31 and Washington, D.C., costs $72. So, Maryland will now be the most expensive state by more than 50%.
Vehicle owners with registrations that expire on or after July 1, 2024, will pay the adjusted rates.
Customers who are currently eligible for renewal or have vehicle registrations that expire through the end of June 2024 will continue to pay current vehicle registration rates.
Customers can see their registration fee and renew their vehicle registration online with a myMVA account .
The MVA said this fee increase will provide critical revenue for the state's Transportation Trust Fund, which is used to maintain the state's infrastructure. The vehicle fee also includes a health care service surcharge that benefits Maryland trauma centers, including medevac services and training.
