Noble Caledonia

Since the early 1990s, Noble Caledonia has specialised in offering small ship cruises to several of the world’s most beautifully captivating destinations. From the idyllic coastlines of western Africa to the mysterious White Seas in the Arctic Circle, Noble Caledonia is the perfect cruise line choice for passionate adventurers.

Guests who choose Noble Caledonia are guaranteed to love their exciting itineraries, enrichment-filled ship/land programs, and remarkable attention to detail.

Noble Caledonia – onboard lifestyle

Noble Caledonia has steadily built a reputation for excellence in all areas, so it is no surprise that many of its guests return year after year. On a Noble Caledonia vessel, you’ll find a warm, welcoming environment that acts as a “home away from home” for your cruise. Each cruise ship has a total capacity of 114 guests, looked after by no less than 76 highly-trained, friendly staff members.

The accommodations and public spaces are wonderfully inviting, with each ship’s interior designed to create the perfect ambience for relaxation. Food lovers will also find much to enjoy aboard a Noble Caledonia cruise ship, with delectable cuisine expertly prepared using locally sourced produce and some of the finest ingredients available.

Noble Caledonia Cruises 2024/2025

In addition to its customary itinerary programme, Noble Caledonia introduces enticing options for extended travel in 2024 through its innovative Grand Expedition programme. Among its highlights is the captivating ‘In The Wake of Shackleton’ cruise, retracing the renowned explorer’s footsteps on a voyage encompassing the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula. Alternatively, the 2024 collection offers new sailings to the Seychelles islands and Tasmania, providing a warmer climate for those seeking different experiences.

Looking ahead to 2025, Noble Caledonia presents an expansive collection of small-ship cruises and extraordinary expedition voyages. Particularly noteworthy is a new 12-day cruise from Darwin that explores Australia’s remote Kimberley region, as well as the Along the Barbary Coast itinerary aboard MS Hebridean Sky . This itinerary calls at an array of ports throughout Algeria and Tunisia. Additionally, Noble Caledonia will return to South America for an in-depth tour of Chilean Patagonia, starting from Ushuaia and concluding in Valparaiso.

Noble Caledonia Tours & Excursions

No matter which cruise you choose, Noble Caledonia goes above and beyond to ensure you’ll get the maximum out of your voyage by adding an attractive variety of tours and excursions.

Whether you’re snorkelling in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, spotting the brown bears dotted along the rugged shoreline of eastern Russia or visiting a wildlife reserve in Central America, your Noble Caledonia voyage will be enhanced in ways that you didn’t think possible. Each vessel also comes equipped with zodiac rafts to allow easy access to landmarks or ports situated in more remote surroundings.

Best of all, the majority of excursions and tours offered by Noble Caledonia are included in the fare at the time of booking, so you won’t need to sign up while onboard or face disappointment upon learning your chosen excursion is fully booked.

Reasons to cruise with Noble Caledonia:

  • A great choice of destinations includes Central America, the Polar Regions and the Caribbean.
  • Small yet perfectly formed ships, perfect for sharing experiences with fellow travellers.
  • A superb variety of shore excursions is included in the price.

noble caledonia travel

Designed to carry travelers in comfort to the most remote corners of the world. Noble Caledonia’s ships provide access to free onboard intranet and a number of resources, including on-demand movies, daily programs and landing site information, photos from the voyage, live camera feeds, international news, a full gift shop catalogue, and information about the ship and the team. Guests can access the intranet wirelessly with their tablet, laptop, or smartphone from anywhere on the ship.

Wine, beer, juice, and soft drinks served with lunch and dinner are included, as well as coffee, tea, chocolate, cappuccino, water, and snacks throughout the expedition. Alcoholic drinks and other beverages can be purchased at the ship’s bar.

Noble Caledonia’s passion is small ships and each year they create a captivating and diverse collection of worldwide journeys. Their ships are big enough to sail the seven seas comfortably but small enough to drop anchor in places off the beaten track, avoiding the regular, crowded tourist stops whenever possible.

Whether you join one of their voyages close to home in the Hebrides or one in a far flung and exotic destination such as Papua New Guinea you can be assured of a warm welcome onboard and a team of knowledgeable expedition staff and guest speakers who will make your journey an enjoyable and rewarding one.

Whilst there are many large sailing ships offering passages around the world there are few if any, that can compare in terms of luxury to Sea Cloud II. To be on deck when the sails are fully extended is a marvellous and unrivalled experience as Sea Cloud II glides through the water powered by the wind catching in her sails.

In a world where places seem to be becoming ever more crowded, exploring by river offers a respite and the opportunity to enjoy the ever-changing landscape from the comfort of your floating hotel. From the Danube to the Ganges or the Amazon to the Irrawaddy, Noble Caledonia offers a diverse range of worldwide river cruises.

For those remarkable places in the world which cannot be accessed by sea or river, Noble Caledonia offers an extensive array of escorted land tours many of which involve travelling by private train.

Small Ships – Big Experiences with Noble Caledonia. For those who enjoy seeing and learning about the wonders of nature, be it birds, mammals, marine life, geology or botany, Noble Caledonia’s worldwide expedition cruises offer the perfect environment.

Nile Cruise on SS Misr

We took the Nile cruise on SS Misr in 2023. Very disappointed. The boat is not a good choice as cabins are cramped and impractical not to mention dark and dingy. The sun deck us unusable due to constant emission of smuts and black soot from the engines. Many guests had clothes ruined and seat cushions were unusable for the same reason. Food questionable and boring buffet every day. Only tables of 6 and limited dining hours. Personally I had the worst sickness/ diarrhea of my life, twice. Approx a quarter of guests affected too. After returning home we wrote to the company voicing our complaints but didn't even have the courtesy of a reply. I would never use this over priced company again.

Excellent small group travel

My wife and I have travelled with Noble Caledonia over 10 times and each time have had little or no complaints . The trips are well organised with great expedition staff, excellent food and ,where necessary , good quality hotels . We have taken both land, river and small ship holidays and do recommend travel with them. We have had some small complaints which have been dealt with quickly and always resolved in our favour. The holidays are not cheap but you get what you paid for .

I don’t believe these negative reviews

I read the reviews on this site with interest. Personally I have been on 3 Noble Caledonia tours in the last year. The first to Italy (Venice ) and Croatia, the second on a Nile cruise and the third a cruise from Egypt to Greece where I took the opportunity to spend 2 additional nights in Athens. Each and every cruise was super. So I fail to see why there are negative reviews. The accommodations, the Noble staff, the ships crew and the official guides were all phenomenal. I’m currently on a Noble land tour. I’m half way through it and so far it has been the same as the previous 3, well organised, interesting and I’ve met a lovely crowd of like minded individuals. Do yourselves a favour. Try again, I’m sure you’ll be surprised.

Accident on board a cruise

In short, a chair on which I was sitting in my cabin broke and I was thrown to the floor. This was September 2022 and I write this in July 2023. The company accepted no responsibility, merely wishing me a speedy recovery. The last half of my holiday was ruined and I am still not fully recovered some ten months later. Shoddy behaviour by an allegedly reputable company.

My wife and I became non-persons…

My wife and I became non-persons confined to our cabin when she tested pos for covid a few days in to our very expensive Scottish Isles cruise. Eating tray meals sitting on the prison bed wasn't part of our expectation. We were strongly encouraged to leave the ship at Stornoway, which we did rather than spend another 6 days in confinement, and then spent 4 difficult days trying to get home whilst dealing with covid symptoms. Meanwhile, not a single phone call from them to establish whether we were ok. Hey ho ! But top marks to the ship's Doctor, a sympathetic Ukrainian who did his best. So if you book with them, you need to factor in a fairly unsympathetic response if you are unlucky enough to contract covid from other passengers.

Having joined an aborted cruise in March 2020 (covid) we found their office both unhelpful and obstructive when trying to claim some recompense for curtailment from themselves and our insurance company. Generally their cruises are overpriced for v average accommodation/food. The mediocre guides/experts all enjoy a 5* cruise at your expense. Definitely not worth the money. Avoid at all costs

No go if you are an American!

I guess it would be nice to be able to write a review, but as an American I am not able to book a cabin on any cruise at all. They simply do not return calls or emails, or state that all the cabins are sold when there are available ones on their website. I guess they have forgotten that they would all be speaking German were it not for our fathers.....

DISCRIMINATION to Single traveler - only allowed lowest rated cabins for top rate price

Just called to book a trip with Noble Caledonia - single traveler prepared to pay for higher rated cabin pus the extortionate single supplement. Response was singles only allocated lowest rated cabins! Is this discrimination? Prepared to pay but not allowed to? What is wrong with a lone traveler? Is this even legal?

Date of experience : 09 May 2018

We have just lost our case under the…

We have just lost our case under the ABTA Arbitration scheme after a river cruise on a very poor chartered vessel. Noble Caledonia were able to state that they never claimed the vessel was "more akin to a private yacht or a country house hotel" (see their website), because that statement was not in the contract for the chartered vessel. We will never travel with this company again. If you wish to spend big money (as was the cost of this river cruise) then we would recommend Seabourn, who unlike Noble Caledonia go more than the extra mile to help if anything goes wrong, no matter how small. The Travel Industry must be laughing all the way to the bank to see the end of the Ombudsman scheme.

Another Single Not Allowed to Book!

I called to book a trip with Noble Caledonia following an email clearly detailing single cabin availability. I asked if they had cabins available for the specified trip and was told there were. I then said I wanted to book as a solo traveler as per their email. I was told they weren't accepting solo bookings until they knew they could not sell cabins for double occupancy - they lost money when including solo travelers and 'odd numbers' could prove disruptive!!! Reading the previous reviews it looks as if I have had a lucky escape - I still would like to do that trip though (maybe another company offers a similar routing).

Blacklisted after 38 previous trips!

We are possibly one of Noble Caledonia's most loyal customers. At the time of taking our last cruise on MV Elixir we had four more already booked and this was our 39th trip with them. They have had over £600,000 of our money over the years and yet with no explanation they have decided that our custom is no longer required... We suspect that the reason for this is that the cruise director was completely useless. Specifically the Zodiac procedures on this ship were, in my opinion, dangerous. Despite a safety briefing lasting less than 5 minutes, the crew made no attempt to follow their own procedures. On the first return to the ship, the zodiac was not secured to the ship, there was nobody on the landing platform, the two crew on the zodiac were holding onto the landing stage, no two handed grips were used - you get the picture. The cruise director was at the top of the ladder and when I tried to tell him about the potential dangers, he completely blanked me. I tackled him later over lunch. He was dismissive and said he had no control over the procedures as these were down to the ship. When I pressed him, he accused me of shouting at him and said that he deserved respect. I was not shouting at him and walked away to get a drink to defuse the situation. When I returned he said he would arrange for me to speak to the captain. It never happened. At Delos the crew of the zodiac were literally hanging on by their fingertips to the tread of the old tyres on the dock wall. They overloaded the zodiac. I did remark that it felt like a cross channel migrant crossing. Again when we returned to the ship, it was not secured. I was the first passenger off and refused to move until the zodiac was secured, one member of crew had got onto the landing platform, and the proper two handed safety grips were used. I tackled the cruise director again at a briefing meeting. He said he would talk to me separately afterwards. It never happened. So I wrote a long letter of complaint to Noble Caledonia. Rather than a response, I received a cursory letter from Noble informing me that they had received reports of rude and abusive behaviour (after 39 trips this was never commented on previously?) and that they had decided to cancelled all future bookings. I suspect that knowing that I was going to complain about the completely useless cruise director, he'd managed to put the boot in first. Needless to say I don't expect they'll be bothering to read my complaint letter. This is an appalling way to treat loyal and long standing repeat customers. No discussion. No attempt to establish my viewpoint. There are plenty of other cruise companies offering the same trips, especially bearing in mind that Noble now have only 2 ships of their own. I've already re-booked two of my banned journeys with other companies. My advise - don't use them. They don't care about you.

Date of experience : 21 October 2023

Refused to make good on a full refund after they held our deposit for over two years and then canceled their own tour.

Date of experience : 30 September 2022

Do not use - they will cancel your trip!

We spent years researching and saving for a once-in-a-lifetime voyage to Antarctica, and finally settled on the Noble Caledonia cruise ‘Antarctica – Land of Heroes’, an extensive cruise to the Falklands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. We booked early to make sure we could select the cabin we wanted and Noble Caledonia happily took our deposit, thereby (we thought) guaranteeing our place on the cruise. Safe in the knowledge that our place was assured we booked our return flights to Buenos Aires, again early enough to get the exact flights we wanted. Three months after taking our money Noble Caledonia decided they could make more money by redeploying the ship MS Island Sky to Easter Island and cancelled our cruise. This was a crushing disappointment for us. Worse still, Noble Caledonia resolutely refuse to offer any kind of compensation for the loss of our flights even though this was entirely their decision. Now we feel utterly betrayed as well as disappointed. Noble Caledonia’s booking conditions are desperately one-sided. If the customer cancels for any reason they forfeit a massive expense – anywhere from 10% to 100% of the total cost. If Noble Caledonia cancels for any reason they don’t incur any expense at all – they merely return your deposit. It’s one thing to write such escape clauses into the small print, but it’s another thing entirely to actually treat your customers with such contempt. The Noble Caledonia business model is based on alienation of existing customers for short term gain. If they have done this to us they will certainly do this to others. Avoid this company at all cost!!!

Date of experience : 17 February 2023

1 star: Bad – unacceptable experience, unreasonable and rude conduct.

After spending a small fortune on a 2017 cruise we expected - and I quote -"The experience and atmosphere onboard one of our vessels is very different to that onboard the usual big cruise ships and is more akin to a private yacht or country house hotel" - well, it certainly didn't feel like that to us when we were rudely and unreasonably 'ejected' from the ships restaurant at 10.15 one evening following a specious complaint from an anonymous fellow passenger. Profuse apologies subsequently followed, but not a penny offered in compensation! We agree with what TrustPilot says "We believe that people's voices should be heard, which is why we're dedicated to helping everyone share their genuine experiences".

New Caledonia: Partial calm but gunfire in French territory under state of emergency

A sixth person was killed in the archipelago on Saturday, following an exchange of fire in the North Province.

Residents line up to buy groceries at a supermarket along a street blocked by debris and burnt items following nighttime unrest in the Magenta district of Nouméa, New Caledonia, May 18, 2024.

The New Caledonian government called for the roadblocks in and around the capital of Nouméa to be lifted on Saturday, May 18. The local government of the French territory in the Pacific Ocean "strongly condemns any obstruction to people's access to their essential needs," said a press release.

Since Friday, the state of emergency has restored a tentative calm. However, the capital city, which the authorities say attracted some 10,000 militants and young delinquents at the start of the week, remains in a state of disorder. The official death toll from the violence on stood at six on Saturday, including two gendarmes and three Indigenous Kanak. The latest casualty, a Caldoche (White descendant of settlers) man, was killed on Saturday in the north of Grande Terre, the main island in the archipelago, when he tried to cross a roadblock at Kaala-Gomen, as first reported La 1 ère television station and confirmed by officials to Agence France-Presse .

"We're killing each other, we can't go on like this," said Vaimu'a Muliava, a member of the local government. "It's going to be very, very difficult to get back on our feet. But there's still time. Free the roads! It's not just the government's watchword, it's the people's."

According to La 1 ère , 146 commercial and public establishments "have burned or are burning." Calls to attack town halls have been posted on social media.

'Serious clashes'

The radical CCAT cell, set up by the pro-independence group Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS), claimed to have issued instructions for restraint. In a press release on Friday, it reiterated that it had "mobilized the country for a noble cause" – independence – and held "the State responsible for the loss of human life, the atrocities and the destruction of the country's economic fabric." The French government, which described the CCAT as a "violent mafia" organization, said it was holding two conflicting at once.

In the quiet suburbs of Nouméa, residents of "protection committees" posted videos of friendly, multicultural meals. "Courage! The high commissioner himself said that the neighborhood protection committees should be maintained," posted Virginie Ruffenach, president of the loyalist right-wing Rassemblement party.

There were reports of armed militiamen engaged in manhunts against rioters. And there continued to be high tensions in the northern districts, such as those in the towns of Dumbéa and Païta.

On a platform created for its residents, the South Province offered what it calls "verified information," sharing messages from its loyalist president, Sonia Backès. On Saturday morning, Backès, a former member of President Emmanuel Macron's government, stated that "there were still serious clashes last night, particularly in Magenta. We're still a long way from a return to calm. But we're getting there."
