Tips for embracing joy in daily life

  • Balance Your Mental and Emotional Health

Person with arm up, expressing joy

Stress isn't new. Modern technology has made some tasks easier, but stress levels have stayed the same or increased. About 27% of U.S. adults report that they are so stressed most days that they are unable to function. Over 75% experienced at least one stress-related symptom in the last month, like headache, fatigue, nervousness or feeling depressed.

Joy is a powerful emotion and harnessing it can be a remedy for stress-related burnout. Contentment and joy can positively improve physical and mental health and overall well-being. Here's what you need to know to build, cultivate and sustain joy in your life.

Joy versus happiness

It's easy to confuse the emotions of joy and happiness because they often are experienced at the same time. Yet, some nuances should be distinguished. Often, happiness is the emotional reaction to what is happening around you. Whereas joy isn't reactionary and often is driven by internal motivations like working toward a goal or finding a purpose in life.

"Happiness is an emotion, whereas joy is more a state of being," says Rebekkah Frunzac, M.D. , general surgeon and chief wellness officer at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin and Albert Lea , Minnesota. "When you are joyful, it doesn't mean you are always giddy or happy. But it means you can appreciate moments of happiness within the bigger context of life."

Karizma Maxson agrees. She is a neonatal ICU nurse manager at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and previously implemented joy activities at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse , Wisconsin.

"Happiness is fleeting, but my joy still drives me on a terrible day," says Karizma. "Because I have a purpose in life, I still have joy even during a horrible time."

Compounding joy

Joy isn't experienced in a vacuum. Most of the time, it's a feeling or sentiment that spreads to others through your attitude and actions.

"I think of joy as a ripple or a domino. On my team, we share a connection of wanting to care for women and children," says Karizma. "This shared purpose, and joy, builds a connection between everyone on the team. When you link joy together, it becomes even stronger."

Tips for discovering joy

Joy looks different to each person and can be found in everyday situations. Some people find joy in caring for others, spiritual connections, spending time in nature or continually learning. Other people discover joy in different activities, relationships or personal empowerment.

Karizma refers to these pursuits as "filling my cup" and encourages people to feel empowered to seek and discover what brings them joy. Having activities or a purpose replenishes physical and emotional energy and helps people be more resilient when times are tough.

Dr. Frunzac and Karizma offer additional tips for embracing joy daily:

Focus on what you can control..

Many possible stressors in life are outside of your control. The weather, how others treat you, your past, natural disasters, your relatives and other aspects of your life exist without your input. While building joy, focus your time and attention on things you can control.

"I've learned to not internalize the things I can't control," says Dr. Frunzac. "This frees me up to better navigate the situation and focus on my personal happiness and mental health."

This can be easier said than done. Write out the details of a stressful situation and outline which aspects are in and outside your control. Then make an intentional decision to shift your attention to things you can change, including your attitude.

"Our attitudes are often a choice. We can spend time ruminating on something that is negative and out of our control or decide to see the good in something and choose joy," says Karizma.

Express gratitude.

Gratitude is being thankful or showing appreciation for the things and people around you. This could be sending positive thoughts to someone special, writing a text message to a friend or listing three things you are grateful for each day. Practicing this daily helps your brain shift its focus to appreciation and blessings, instead of problems and challenges.

"It's easy to get bogged down in what we don't have, what we want or situations where we feel like we have been taken advantage of," says Dr. Frunzac. "Being deliberate about listing our blessings helps us recognize that, even with stressors, most people are very lucky and fortunate."

Assume good intent.

When stressed, any additional inconvenience or misunderstanding could be viewed as unjust and an intentional barrier to your joy. In most cases, people are simply doing their best with the information and skills they possess, and their actions are not malicious or spiteful.

"When you start a relationship from the position that somebody else is bad or wrong, then that relationship is set up for failure," says Dr. Frunzac. "But if you can assume positive intent and approach every problem as though you are sitting on the same side of the table attacking the problem together, rather than attacking one another, you can find common ground and fulfillment."

Concentrate on building relationships.

To various degrees, all people need social connections with others. For many, helping lift others creates a sense of purpose and joy. If building healthy relationships is at the core of your efforts, you can find happiness and joy in your life.

"One of the best parts of leadership is finding out what fills the cups of your team," says Karizma. "Part of being a good friend, good partner and good spouse is to recognize what is great in everyone and lift them up. Sharing in their joy and cheering them on helps us recognize the good things in ourselves, too."

Keep perspective.

Some decisions or situations have serious, long-lasting effects on your life. But often, things that seem important today may only matter a little or not at all in five or 10 years. It's common to recall the feeling of stress or worry years later, but not the actual scenario that caused it.

As you strive for joy, remember to keep perspective on which situations and decisions are monumental and which are not, like little annoyances.

"Everyone has aspects of their jobs that they don't enjoy," says Dr. Frunzac. "But learning to accept those parts helps compartmentalize them. Not everything we do is a defining moment in our lives. Sometimes, it's just a job that needs to be done."

Help is available

Even joyful people have difficult or unhappy days. Dr. Frunzac and Karizma stress that help is available for anyone struggling with depression or anxiety more days than not. Your health care team can help assess your symptoms and offer local resources to help you.

Mayo Clinic Health System invites you to try one or more of these free, self-guided virtual programs to help you improve different aspects of your health and wellness:

The Ultimate Guide to Find Joy in the Journey

What does it mean to find joy in the journey.

Would you consider yourself joyful? Would you like to be?  Doesn’t it seem like there is just not enough happiness or joy in the world today? That’s just not acceptable, is it?  Welcome to the ultimate guide to finding joy in the journey.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Right?

In this ultimate guide, we’ll dig into the Bible to see what God says about joy . And then we’ll discover tons of ways for finding joy in the ordinary as well as ways to find joy in the journey. There’s absolutely no reason that we should be miserable in this life we lead. Yet most of us are. We’re so focused on the end goal, that we forget to stop and smell the roses along the way. It’s time we slowed down a bit. Don’t you agree? So let’s get started.

What is the difference between happiness and joy?

Many people wonder if there even is a difference between the two.  Let’s look at the definitions.  Dictionary.com defines happiness as “the quality or state of being happy; good fortune; pleasure, contentment;  joy.”  I believe in this definition, the operative word is “state.”  I looked up the definition of state and found, “the condition of a person or thing, as with respect to circumstances.”  In other words happiness is temporary and conditional.

Joy, on the other hand, is defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.”  If you are a child of God, that “something that is exceptionally good” comes from the Lord. Joy is part of who you are. It’s a fruit of the spirit.

Your joy doesn’t leave you when a negative event happens, like someone cutting you off in traffic or having a bad day. In other words, it is completely normal to experience finding joy in the ordinary, everyday aspects of life.

I believe that there is a very real difference between happiness and joy. Joy is a belief from the heart that comes from the Lord. It’s an internal emotion that doesn’t change regardless of what’s happening on any given day.  Happiness, on the other hand, is a surface-level emotion that’s based on external factors.

For instance, you might think that finding true happiness might come from getting a raise at work, or a new puppy. But our happiness can change. For instance, if your lovable little puppy bites you or tinkles on the carpet. That might alter your mood a bit. I am a firm believer that you can choose to be happy if you want to. Then again, I suppose you might choose not to be happy as well.

What does the Bible say about seeking happiness?

In the KJV Bible, the word “joy” is mentioned 155 times.  The following Scriptures show how joy comes from the Lord. When you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you are filled with the Holy Spirit, and you become safe from eternal damnation.   This is where joy comes from.

Let’s look at the Fruit of the Spirit. It’s called a fruit because it’s a product of the tree it grows from. Jesus is the Vine, and we are the branches. There’s only one fruit but there are nine traits of someone who follows Jesus in their life. Each trait reflects how the Holy Spirit is working in our lives. Joy is the second trait.  It’s not something we choose to do. It’s a by-product of following Jesus.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

What does it mean to find joy in the little things?

We know that joy is an integral part of a Christian’s life. So what does it mean to find joy in the little things? Thinking back to our quote, that “Life is a journey, not a destination,” the main message I get from that, is that we need to slooooow down. Take life in.

Literally, we need to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy those first sips of morning coffee. Linger in the intimacy you enjoy with your spouse and the hugs from your babies, regardless of how old they are. When was the last time you snuggled with your husband on the couch while watching a movie?

I don’t know about you. But even TV watching has gotten mechanical. We grab our dinner, turn on the tube and do almost the same thing every night. We need more spontaneity.

Some ideas for finding joy in the little things might be tucking a note in your husband or child’s lunch box. Having dinner on a blanket in the yard. Shake things up a notch and break the routine that’s wearing the traffic pattern on your carpet. That’s what it means to find joy in the little things.

Keys to finding joy in the ordinary

Opening the lock to finding joy in the ordinary starts with some simple keys. If you are a child of God, that means that you have been saved by grace through faith . You have ever so much to be thankful for. You are a child of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ.  If you’re looking at finding happiness every day, this is a great place to start.

Do you remember what David prayed after the prophet Nathan confronted him after he had been with Bathsheba?  David blew it! He sinned against God and he knew it. I encourage you to read all of Psalm 51 , but look at this verse:

Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Any time you fall away from the Lord, whether you consider it to be a major sin or a small one (hint: in God’s eyes they’re all the same,) repentance brings you back to square one. That is a huge cause for rejoicing.

Remember, finding joy in the little things is possible if only you pay attention. Here are some examples:

  • A sunrise that unexpectedly shows up in the most beautiful colors
  • A sale on your favorite grocery items
  • An unexpected check in the mail
  • A phone call from one of your kids
  • Finding $5 in the laundry (or even a quarter, because for me, any amount brings a smile.)
  • That smile you see when hubby walks through the door after a long day at work
  • The love of your pet
  • A gentle breeze on a hot day
  • Listening to the birds singing
  • I could go on and on….

7 Ways to find joy in the journey

There are many ways of finding joy in the ordinary. But I have found that there are some main umbrellas under which you can find happiness in small things.  Let’s start with the list. Then we’ll break them down.

  • Remember our goal is to seek ye first the kingdom of God

Stay positive

Count your blessings.

  • Remember that Garbage in = Garbage out
  • . Finding joy in simple things

Stop waiting for things to bring you joy

Remember our goal is to seek ye first the kingdom of god.

If you’ve been saved by the grace of God, you’ve got eternal security.   I can’t think of a better place to start where we can find joy in the Lord.  Eternal security means spending eternity with Jesus. I definitely prefer that over the alternative,  don’t you? I mean, we’re talking forever here. If you need some guidance, here are the basics for growing your faith in God.

Joy can be found by serving God, following Him, spending time in close communion with Him in prayer. As we look back on answered prayers, we can be reminded of how often and how great God works in our lives. This is why I’m a huge proponent of keeping a gratitude list or gratitude journal . It gives us a place to record those blessings.

Let me help you start. Grab your free 7-day Cultivate a Grateful Heart printable journal.

Grab your gratitude Journal here

Joy can also be found by delighting in the Word of God . Scripture tells us of God’s goodness. So it’s proper for us to rejoice in Him. We don’t just rejoice for what He’s given us, but for who He is. We give thanks and praise His holy name.

And by staying in His will, He bestows wisdom, knowledge and joy upon us. Our study of and closeness with the Lord keeps us finding joy in the Lord, throughout our whole journey of life.

Psalm 119:111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.
Psalm 97:11-12 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness .
Ecclesiastes 2:26a For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy:

We often find ourselves saying yes to so many good things. We become distracted and along the way, we lose our joy in the process. Remember, it’s about how to find joy in the journey, not just getting to the destination.

It’s possible to be busy doing good things all in the name of Jesus, but without actually being with Him. Remember don’t choose your to-do list over sitting at Jesus’ feet. Remember the story of Mary and Martha?   Martha chose the busy work, while Mary sat at Jesus’s feet.

Yes, we all have things that need to be done. But if we lose track of our priorities, we could miss out on finding joy in simple things. Remember simple and necessary things consist of Jesus, family, and other important things, so slow down and stay focused.

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Another critical factor of joy is positivity.  As a survivor of flesh-eating bacteria and quadruple amputations , part of my recovery was keeping a positive mindset.  I have never approached my life, seeking joy in the journey from a pessimistic perspective.  I wonder, is it even possible?

Finding happiness in the little things starts with waking up daily, thankful for all the blessings from God . I’m also thankful for the opportunity to wake up with a smile on my face. As a mom, our kids learn from us. They learn from what we say, but also from our actions.

I always wanted to teach my kids to find joy in the journey. I would never be able to do that with a negative heart and a woe-is-me attitude. Life without hands and feet is hard enough. But if I lived in a constant pity party, what would that teach them? It is certainly not an acceptable lesson from a child of God.

redhead smiling joyfully with hat, Find Joy in the Journey

We’ve already talked about being thankful. So that’s why it’s one of my top tips for finding joy in the journey. I believe that you can find a silver lining in every dark cloud. You just have to look for it.

If we pay attention, we can see many reminders of God’s grace in our everyday life. By looking at some of our negative experiences in life from a spiritual viewpoint, we can certainly see that God can use all of our trials and hardships for His glory as well as for our good.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I don’t need to count your blessings to give you some ideas of finding joy in simple things. But I can give you some ideas of things that would go in my own blessings jar just from the past day or two.

  • My morning coffee
  • Video chats with our kids
  • Glasses for better vision
  • Answered prayers
  • Being able to boldly go before the throne of grace, seeking sweet fellowship with Jesus
  • Great friendship and fellowship with our church family
  • The privilege of buying groceries
  • The love and support of my husband, kids and church family
  • A great sermon and Sunday School class
  • A big, fat ice cream cone
  • A beautiful sunny day
  • A quick nap on a busy day
  • Being able to work from home
  • Flowers blooming
  • Crops from our vegetable garden
  • The blessing of falling asleep after a couple of hours of phantom pain
  • My husband’s willingness to attend to my pain several times during the night, even though he had a 4am wake up alarm for work

That’s a quick list I put together in less than 10 minutes. But I want to draw your attention to the last two items in my list. As an amputee, I suffer from something called phantom pain every so often. Briefly, it’s nerve pain that exists in the amputated limbs. In my case, it feels like my missing feet still exist.

My point, however, is that when hardships hit, look for the blessing. That activity will help you find joy. Yes, pain hurts. And phantom pain is like a hammer beating on my feet. But be thankful for your trials.  They help you grow spiritually, which is important.

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Remember Garbage in = Garbage out

Have you heard this adage? It basically means that what you put into your heart and mind, will be reflected in your words and actions. In other words, you are what you spend your time on, who you spend time with, the activities you participate in and the words you use.

The following Scriptures explain further, in the words of Jesus. Be careful what you do, because it creates habits that take you away from God and could ruin your witness for Jesus to others.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Let me give you some examples about how garbage in equals garbage out which prevents you from finding joy in the ordinary:

  • Spending time with worldly people results in doing worldly activities
  • Spending time with Godly people results in doing Godly activities
  • Watching R rated shows results in language and activities that Jesus would not condone and neither should you
  • Finding joy in the Lord by reading your Bible has a far different outcome than reading books about death and trauma

These are just a couple of examples. Instead, aim for Quality In equals Quality out. Not only will it create a more joyful life , but it will result in a more positive relationship with Jesus.

Matthew 6:21-23 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

Finding joy in simple things

There are so many things in life that will help you find happiness in the little things, once you have joy in the Lord.  Remember that salvation and safety from eternal damnation is the foundation of joy. It’s a joy that lives deep in your soul.

You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? We all know people who exude the hope, love and joy of Jesus .  In fact the Apostle Peter tells us that we should have a reason for people to ask us what it is that gives us hope. That means we must show it. With joy in our hearts, hope shows up.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

So how do we find joy in the little things? Stop and experience them. Put the cell phones and technology away. When you and your spouse are alone, are you both on your phones, texting, checking emails or scrolling through Facebook?  Or are you enjoying each other’s company, paying attention to the conversation and appreciating the time you’re together?

When your kids are playing, asking you to “look at me, Mommy,” are you really looking? Or is it an annoyance because they’ve asked for the millionth time? It’s so easy to not pay attention and assume that whatever you’re doing is more important at the time. I assure you that it’s not.

Because you will blink and they’ll be in their 20s. They won’t bother calling, because they think that you won’t care about what’s important to them. Why? Because they learned that truth when they were younger.

So please listen. Don’t waste this time. Enjoy the little things. Find joy in the journey.  Because it’s never about making more money or getting a better job. It’s about finding joy in the ordinary.

It’s never too late to experience joy. Start today, right now. It’s up to you to create a joyful life. Seek ye first the kingdom of God.  Then learn how to get closer to God . Let the joy of Jesus show through you.  Every day is an opportunity to refresh your joy in the Lord.

The whole goal of this website is to help you rediscover God’s joy and peace amid the trials of your life. So, what can you do today or even right now to remind you of that joy?  This scripture and the Bible verses below should give you some ideas, as well as what the Lord thinks about the importance of joy in the journey.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Bible verses about joy and contentment

The Holy Bible is full of ways and ideas that guide you in your quest for finding joy in the journey. Jesus came to give us an abundant life and to guide us in the path in which to get it. Don’t be mistaken though. Jesus brings that abundance to our eternal life, not necessarily in this hard and difficult world we live in now. Below are some of my favorite Bible verses about joy and contentment. Plus, click for even more Bible verses about happiness and joy.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
John 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewel s.

Why should we find happiness in small things?

So what can we do to continue to find joy in the journey?  We start by living life with intention . We start by living our lives according to God’s purpose, not ours.  Living intentionally means that you are being intentional about your choices. You are making the conscious choice to do more of what’s important and less of what is not.

It’s so important that we seek God’s purpose in the everyday, ordinary things of life. Because when we seek to find the joy in the journey, and our lives are focused on living for God, extraordinary things will begin to happen.  If you enjoyed this post, please be sure to leave your favorite tips below. Why Joy Matters

If you’ve ever wondered why the pursuit of joy is such a universal instinct, we can turn to science for some enlightening answers. You see, joy is not just an abstract concept, a whimsical notion. It’s a biological event, deeply interwoven into our evolutionary makeup.

At the heart of joy’s biochemical dance are endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine – our body’s natural ‘feel good’ chemicals. When we experience joy, our brain releases these chemicals, leading to feelings of happiness, satisfaction, and well-being. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Research suggests that joy can even boost our immune system, decrease stress levels, and increase our lifespan. In short, experiencing joy doesn’t just feel good—it’s good for us.

For instance, a groundbreaking study reported that individuals with a positive outlook on life had a significantly reduced risk of heart disease. Similarly, research conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, found that people who maintained high levels of happiness and positivity were less likely to develop cognitive decline as they aged.

But the power of joy isn’t confined to the realms of academia. Look around, and you’ll find countless real-life examples.

Case Study: Sarah’s Transformation Through Joy

Consider the story of Sarah, a friend of mine. A few years ago, she found herself embroiled in a whirlwind of stress and burnout. Navigating a career that necessitated constant travel and grappling with an intense workload, coupled with the responsibilities of caring for her three children,  it was a daily struggle to keep her head above the waves.

Then she decided to draw a line in the sand and choose to consciously cultivate joy in her life. She started to find delight in life’s simple moments—sharing impromptu dance sessions in her living room with her children, taking invigorating hikes in the local park alongside a close friend, embracing the tranquility of meditation amidst her work obligations, and exploring her culinary creativity through experimenting with new recipes. It wasn’t a dramatic overhaul, just subtle shifts. But over time, these little pockets of joy added up, and her life began to change. Her stress levels dropped, her relationships improved, and she found a renewed passion for her work. Today, she swears by the transformative power of small acts of joy.

Whether through scientific studies or personal anecdotes, one thing remains clear – joy matters. It’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity, a cornerstone for a healthy, fulfilling life. So, let’s dig deeper and uncover these potent pathways to joy.

Understanding Your Joy

Before we embark on our joy-filled journey, it’s important to recognize a fundamental truth about joy – it is intensely personal. What sparks joy in one person might not resonate the same way with another. Your joy may find its voice in the delicate dance of autumn leaves, while someone else’s joy might roar to life amidst the cheering crowd of a football stadium.

Our individuality, with our unique set of experiences, preferences, and passions, dictates the things that truly fill us with joy. It could be a genre of music, a style of painting, a favorite hobby, or even the company of certain people. Identifying what gives you that warm glow of happiness, that lightness of being, is the first step in your personal journey to enhanced joy.

Sometimes, the search for joy can feel overwhelming. We might feel the need to make sweeping changes or seek out grand experiences. But here’s the good news—you don’t need to move mountains to find your joy. Quite the contrary, the pathway to joy often lies in the smallest, seemingly insignificant moments.

A simple smile shared with a stranger, a few moments of silence in the midst of a busy day, a surprise note of appreciation for a loved one—these are but simple examples of little things that can bring big joy. Embracing small moments and changes allows joy to seep into your everyday life, gradually filling it up like a slowly rising tide.

Former Harvard lecturer on Positive Psychology and leadership, Tal Ben-Shahar, perfectly captures this sentiment:

“Happiness is not about making it to the peak of the mountain nor is it about climbing aimlessly around the mountain; happiness is the experience of climbing toward the peak.” Tal Ben-Shahar

So let’s keep in mind that joy doesn’t necessarily require grand gestures or radical life changes. Often, it’s about relishing in the minute, the mundane, and the everyday. It’s about recognizing that sometimes, the smallest changes can have the biggest impacts on our levels of joy.

37 Ways to Transform Ordinary Days Into a Symphony of Happiness

As we embark on the road less travelled, the path that winds towards a horizon lit with the golden hues of pure, unadulterated joy, let me be your humble guide. Welcome to the heart of our expedition – ’37 Ways to Transform Ordinary Days Into a Symphony of Happiness.’

Each stepping stone on this journey is an idea, a concept, a seed. When nurtured with action and intention, these seeds will blossom into beautiful flowers of joy, radiating happiness into every corner of your life.

We won’t simply rush past these 37 stepping stones. Instead, we will pause, feel the texture beneath our feet, and understand the essence of each one. Let’s explore them together, let’s celebrate them, and most importantly, let’s infuse them into our lives. After all, it’s not the destination, but the journey that matters.

Are you ready? With a hopeful heart and an open mind, let’s set forth on our joy journey, starting with these transformative steps…

First up on our joy journey is gratitude. Countless studies have found that acknowledging the good things in your life improves mental health, boosts happiness, and yes, increases joy. But how do we make this intangible concept tangible? That’s where the Gratitude Journal comes in.

Every day, set aside a few minutes to write down three things you’re thankful for. They can be big (like a promotion at work) or small (a particularly delicious cup of coffee). The trick is to truly feel thankfulness in that moment. This practice trains your brain to look for the good in each day, and over time, the negative stuff fades into the background, making room for more joy.

Did you know that doing something nice for someone else without expecting anything in return can actually boost your own joy? It’s a phenomenon known as the ‘helper’s high’. This could be anything from helping an elderly neighbour with groceries, to leaving a kind note for a co-worker. The joy you bring to others often circles back to you.

Sometimes I bake extra cookies over the weekend and surprise my neighbors with a sweet treat.

In the hustle and bustle of life, we often put our passions on the back burner. But joy springs from doing things we love, so reignite that old hobby, be it painting, playing an instrument, or gardening. Allocate some time each week (or each day, if possible) to this passion. Not only does it give you a break from routine, but it also fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-worth, which in turn elevates joy.

They say laughter is the best medicine, and when it comes to joy, this couldn’t be truer. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s feel-good chemicals. It’s also an excellent stress-buster and can even help you connect with others. So, make it a point to laugh more – watch a funny movie, enjoy some stand-up comedy, or share jokes with friends. Let the chuckles and chortles light up your life with joy!

We often overlook joy because we’re too caught up in the past or anxious about the future. Mindfulness helps bring us back to the present. It involves paying attention to our thoughts, emotions, and sensations right now. You can practice mindfulness anywhere, anytime. Start by focusing on your breath, the food you’re eating, or the feel of the wind on your skin. This practice roots us in the here and now, allowing us to experience and appreciate joy that we might otherwise miss.

joyful life

Connections are the threads that weave the fabric of our lives. Relationships, brimming with love and mutual respect, can be a bountiful source of joy. Carve out quality time to spend with your friends and family. Have meaningful conversations, share laughter, and create memories. As you strengthen these relationships, you’ll find your life becoming richer, more vibrant, and joyous.

Have you ever experienced the sheer elation that washes over you when you achieve a goal? There’s something deeply satisfying about setting a target, chasing it, and finally capturing it. Your goals could range from mastering a new skill, reading a certain number of books a month, to achieving a fitness milestone. The key is to ensure these goals resonate with your values and passions. As you tick off each one, you’ll find a sense of accomplishment and joy filling you up.

8. Prioritize Self-Care: It’s Essential for Joy

Think of self-care as watering your personal garden. It’s about providing yourself with what you need to flourish. This could mean practicing yoga, indulging in a relaxing bath, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of your favorite tea. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential for your wellbeing and is a prerequisite for joy.

Creativity is a vibrant dance of the soul, an expressway to joy. It allows you to communicate your deepest feelings, ideas, and dreams. Whether it’s through painting a vibrant canvas, crafting compelling stories, or cooking a beautiful meal, when you create, you come alive. Embrace this powerful tool to tap into your reservoir of joy.

how to have more joy

Nature, the greatest artist of all, has a calming and joyful effect on our souls. The simple act of walking in a park, hiking through picturesque trails, or tending to a garden can flood your senses with peace and happiness. Make time to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with Mother Nature. In her presence, you’ll find your heart swelling with joy.

I simply like to walk barefoot in the grass in my backyard for a few minutes to get a sense of grounding.

The link between physical activity and joy is well established by science. Exercise triggers endorphin release, often referred to as the body’s “feel-good” hormones. Regular workouts can boost your mood, enhance your energy levels, and improve overall well-being. Choose a form of exercise you genuinely enjoy, be it dancing, cycling, yoga, or a simple walk. In this journey towards a joyful life, fitness is your reliable companion.

Life is a ceaseless adventure, and the thrill of learning a new skill can inject immense joy into this journey. Always remain curious and open to new knowledge. It could be learning a musical instrument, mastering a new language, or understanding the intricacies of coding. As you traverse the path of continuous learning, you’ll discover myriad sources of joy along the way.

Positivity is the sunshine that can light up the darkest corners of our minds. Make a conscious effort to ditch negative self-talk, replacing it with words of encouragement and self-love. Surround yourself with positive affirmations, visual reminders, and people who uplift your spirit. As you shift towards positivity, you’ll notice joy blooming in every facet of your life.

TIP: Tape positive affirmations onto your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, anywhere at home that you spend a lot of time. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference this makes.

happiness and joy

Sometimes, joy can be found in the simplest of moments – the aroma of freshly brewed coffee in the morning, the feel of a book in your hands, or the sight of a beautiful sunset. Slow down and cherish these everyday pleasures. Each moment savored adds another drop of joy to your life’s vessel.

Holding onto resentment is like carrying a heavy boulder on your shoulders – it weighs you down, preventing you from moving forward. Forgiveness is the act of setting down this boulder. It’s a conscious decision to let go of anger and resentment, to make room for peace and joy in your life. Remember, forgiveness is more for you than it is for others. As you practice forgiveness, you’ll find the path to joy becomes smoother and more accessible.

Our environment significantly influences our state of mind. Surround yourself with elements that bring you joy. Decorate your home or workspace with items that reflect your personality and inspire positivity. Infuse your space with colors you love, pictures that make you smile, or plants that bring a sense of calm. You’ll find that this simple act of personalizing your surroundings can be a constant source of joy.

Pets are bundles of unconditional love, and their companionship can significantly enhance our joy. Whether it’s a dog’s excited wagging tail, a cat’s gentle purring, or a bird’s melodious chirping, the simple interactions with a pet can uplift our mood instantly. Of course, pet adoption comes with responsibility, so ensure you’re ready for the commitment. But trust me, the joy a pet brings is absolutely worth it!

Music is a powerful mood-enhancer. A study conducted by the University of Missouri found that listening to upbeat music can lead to increased joy. Create a playlist of your favorite uplifting songs and let the rhythm and melodies inspire happiness within you. Remember, your body loves to dance, and your heart loves to sing, so let music be your joyful wing!

Just as a gratitude journal helps you appreciate your blessings, a joy journal can help you consciously notice and cherish joyous moments. Write down small wins, moments of laughter, feelings of accomplishment, or anything that sparks joy. This habit can help you become more attuned to joy and allow you to revisit these moments when you need a happiness boost.

being more joyous

New experiences stimulate our senses and fill us with a sense of wonder. Whether it’s planning a vacation to an exotic destination or exploring unvisited spots in your local area, going on adventures can bring immense joy. It doesn’t have to be a grand trip; even a simple picnic in a nearby park or a hike on a local trail can bring a sense of novelty and excitement, leading to joy.

Food is a fantastic way to explore different cultures and bring joy. Trying new recipes not only breaks the monotony of your regular meals but also adds a fun element of discovery and learning. From the spicy curries of India to the delicate sushi of Japan or the hearty pasta dishes of Italy, each dish you prepare is a chance to travel the world from the comfort of your kitchen.

A positive mindset can be the foundation of joy. Remember, joy is not merely about what happens to us but how we perceive and react to it. Cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and meditation are great tools to cultivate optimism and ward off negative thinking. Remember, positivity breeds joy, and a joyful mindset will reflect in every area of your life.

Too often, we’re caught up in the chase for big goals, forgetting that joy often lies in the small moments. Every step forward, however small, is an accomplishment. Did you manage to jog for 10 minutes longer today? Did you finally declutter that closet? Celebrate these small wins. They not only boost your mood but also motivate you to keep going.

Sports are an excellent way to inject joy into your life. They not only keep you physically fit but also promote team spirit, discipline, and resilience. Whether it’s playing tennis, joining a local soccer team, or simply throwing a frisbee in the park, sports can significantly enhance your joy quotient. Plus, the rush of endorphins after a good game is a happiness high like no other!

tips for having more joy

25. Make Time for Leisure: It’s Okay to Do Nothing Sometimes

In our fast-paced lives, we often forget the art of doing nothing. Leisure time, where you’re not pursuing any particular goal, is crucial for your mental health and joy. It could be as simple as lounging in a hammock, gazing at the stars, or daydreaming. This unstructured time can spark creativity, help you unwind, and, most importantly, brings pure, undiluted joy.

TIP: Buy a hammock –  it’ll revolutionize your lounging and daydreaming abilities.

In our digital age, it’s easy to become attached to our screens, losing touch with the real world and ourselves. To reclaim your joy, make a habit of spending some time each day unplugged. You might be surprised at the joy you find in the silence of a screen-less evening. Whether it’s a walk in the park, reading a book, or having a heart-to-heart chat with a loved one, disconnecting can help us reconnect with what truly matters.

Volunteering for a cause you care about is a double joy whammy. It not only brings happiness to those you’re helping, but it also boosts your own mood and self-esteem. From animal shelters to local food banks, find a cause that resonates with you and spend some time giving back. The joy you get from making a difference is incomparable.

Rituals can anchor us, giving us something to look forward to and creating a sense of rhythm in our lives. A joyful ritual could be as simple as a dance break every afternoon, a weekly spa night, or a daily gratitude moment. Whatever it is, make it something that makes your heart sing and stick to it. The anticipation and regularity of these rituals are a surefire way to bring more joy into your life.

practices for more joy

Joy comes in many forms, and one of the easiest ways to tap into it is through our senses. Take time to savor the taste of your morning coffee, feel the texture of a soft blanket, smell fresh flowers, listen to your favorite music, or visually enjoy an art piece. By engaging and appreciating our senses, we can tap into the simple joys of life that are always within our reach.

Learning is a lifelong journey, and it can bring immense joy. Expanding your knowledge keeps your mind sharp, increases your understanding of the world, and can be a lot of fun. It could be as simple as picking up a new book, learning a new language or taking a course in something you’ve always been interested in. Keep your curiosity alive, and it will keep you joyous.

Meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety while increasing feelings of calm and joy. It’s a time of self-reflection, where you can quiet the external chatter and connect with your inner self. Starting a meditation practice can be as simple as dedicating five minutes a day to silence and mindful breathing. As you get more comfortable, you can extend this time and explore different forms of meditation. The tranquillity and self-awareness gained can be a significant source of joy.

Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. It rejuvenates our bodies, clears our minds, and uplifts our spirits. Prioritize sleep by establishing a relaxing nighttime routine, investing in a comfortable mattress and pillows, and minimizing distractions in your bedroom. When you wake up well-rested, you are more likely to experience joy throughout your day.

There’s something incredibly joyous about stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new. It could be something as simple as trying a new cuisine, enrolling in a pottery class, or something more adventurous like bungee jumping. Each new experience broadens our perspective, teaches us something new about ourselves, and adds a dash of excitement to our lives, all of which contribute to our overall joy.

While saying yes can open doors to new joys, knowing when to say no is equally important for maintaining joy. Setting boundaries preserves your energy, time, and mental health. Whether it’s declining an invitation when you need rest, or standing up for yourself in a difficult situation, saying no can sometimes be the most joyful choice you make for yourself.

As we grow older, we often lose touch with the carefree joy of our childhood. Take some time to remember the things that made your heart flutter when you were a kid. Was it painting? Climbing trees? Dancing? Reconnect with these activities. Not only will this bring back fond memories, but it will also help you reignite the unfiltered joy you experienced as a child.

There’s an undeniable freshness and exuberance that children possess. Their ability to find joy in the smallest things, their infectious laughter, their unlimited curiosity – it all brings a unique kind of joy that’s hard to replicate. Spend some time playing with your children, nieces, nephews, or volunteer at a local school or children’s charity. Embrace their spontaneity and sense of wonder. You’ll find your worries melt away, replaced by the simple, unadulterated joy that children naturally radiate.

36. Pursue a Dream: Don’t Wait for “Someday”

We all have dreams that we’ve tucked away, waiting for the ‘perfect’ time. It could be writing a book, starting a business, or traveling the world. But remember, there’s no day like today to start working towards that dream. Taking even small steps toward your dream can provide a sense of purpose and immense joy. Don’t wait for ‘someday.’ Make someday, today!

Lastly, and most importantly, realize that true joy comes from within. While external factors can contribute to your happiness, your inner state plays a crucial role. Cultivate inner joy by practicing self-love, acceptance, and forgiveness. Understand that you are enough just as you are, and learn to find joy in your journey. Meditate, practice mindfulness, and nourish your spiritual self. The joy you’ll experience will be deep, lasting, and will not waver with life’s ups and downs. This is the joy that can truly transform your life.

Turning Joy into a Habit

Just like mastering a new skill or adopting a healthier lifestyle, maintaining a state of joy requires consistency. Joy is more than a fleeting emotion; it’s a way of life. As we’ve explored, there are countless ways to invite joy into our lives. However, to reap the full benefits of these practices, we must make them regular fixtures of our lives. So, how do we make joy a habit?

Do you remember the exhilarating feeling of riding a bicycle for the first time without training wheels? The joy of finally playing that complex piece on the piano? These triumphs came after numerous trials and consistent practice. Joy works similarly. Consistency allows us to transition from merely experiencing joyful moments to living a joyful life.

In a world where the hustle and bustle of daily life can often make us lose sight of our happiness, consistent joyful practices act like a compass, always pointing us back to what truly matters. This is why it’s vital to incorporate joy-infusing activities into our daily routine.

So, how can you build these habits? Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Start small: Begin with easy, doable actions. It could be spending five minutes every morning journaling what you’re grateful for or taking a short walk in nature.
  • Stay consistent: Choose a specific time for your joy practices. By doing this, you condition your mind to anticipate and welcome these moments of joy.
  • Mix things up: Variety keeps things exciting. Try to incorporate different joy-inducing activities in your routine to keep it fresh and engaging.
  • Embrace setbacks: There will be days when you might falter. Instead of beating yourself up, embrace these as part of the process. Remember, the goal is to enhance joy, not to create another avenue for stress.

Remember, making joy a habit takes time, but with persistence, you’ll find that these practices will naturally integrate into your life. And before you know it, you’ll be living a life infused with joy, every single day.

And here we are, at the end of our joy-quest! We’ve discussed why joy matters, how understanding our unique joy is vital, and how joy is a personal journey rather than a universal destination. We’ve explored a list of 37 diverse and meaningful ways to invite more happiness into our lives – from the power of gratitude, laughter, and mindfulness, to the joy of creativity, fostering relationships, and self-care.

We’ve embraced the beauty of simple pleasures, learned the value of forgiveness, explored the joy in learning new skills, and celebrated small wins. We’ve traveled through reconnecting with nature, nurturing our physical fitness, cultivating a positive mindset, and the joy of giving.

We’ve ventured into the realm of decorating our spaces, enjoying music, embarking on adventures, and even adopting a pet. We’ve discussed the importance of disconnection to reconnect, volunteering for a cause close to our hearts, starting joyful rituals, and engaging our senses.

We dove deep into practicing meditation, ensuring restful sleep, embracing new experiences, setting boundaries, and reconnecting with our inner child. We recognized the joy that children naturally embody, pursued dreams, and ultimately cultivated our inner joy.

Then we went a step further, discussing how joy, much like any other beneficial habit, requires consistency, dedication, and the right mindset.

But remember, this list isn’t exhaustive nor definitive. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to joy. Your joy journey is unique to you. So, begin with the practices that resonate with you the most, and over time, you’ll discover more ways to infuse joy into your life.

Embarking on this joy journey may seem daunting initially, but every step you take will bring you closer to living a life filled with happiness, contentment, and a sense of fulfillment.

So, why wait? Start today. Start now. It’s time to welcome more joy into your life. After all, life is short and meant to be savored. Let your journey to joy begin.

Frequently Asked Questions About a More Joyful Life

There are numerous ways to add more joy to your life. They range from practicing gratitude, fostering strong relationships, setting personal goals, prioritizing self-care, getting creative, embracing nature, and many more. Each of these methods, if applied consistently, can significantly enhance the level of joy in your life.

Maintaining a gratitude journal involves regularly jotting down things for which you’re grateful. This practice shifts your focus from what’s wrong in your life to what’s going well. Over time, this positive perspective can help increase your happiness and overall joy.

Why is laughter considered a way to add joy to one’s life?

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, our body’s natural feel-good chemicals. They promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain. Therefore, incorporating more laughter into your life, for example by watching a comedy show or movie, can increase your joy levels.

Engaging in random acts of kindness provides a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment as you’re contributing positively to someone’s life. This act not only brings joy to the recipient but also boosts your own happiness.

What’s the relationship between physical fitness and joy?

Regular physical exercise is a powerful mood enhancer. It stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier, more relaxed, and less anxious. Hence, prioritizing physical fitness is a great way to increase your overall joy.

Joy for the Journey

The giant stealing your joy and breaking your heart can be stopped. Shake off the binding chains, and run forward with purpose, intention, and hope.

“T his is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24, NKJV).

Are giants stealing your joy? Giants may come in the form of illness, broken relationships, fears, uncertain careers, death, divorce, or issues from our past. Giants want to scare us and knock the wind out of us. They leave us feeling hopeless, burned out, cheated on, lied to, robbed, and scammed. Our hearts can be broken. Our souls can be battered. We become the “walking wounded.”

But as big as they are, giants can fall. The giant stealing your joy and breaking your heart can be stopped. Shake off the binding chains, and run forward with purpose, intention, and hope.

I choose hope by deciding to no longer be stuck in the rut of sadness, numbness, anger, unwise spending, or wheel-spinning emptiness. When I intentionally begin to blame less and bless more, frown less and laugh more, hate less and love more, doubt less and dream more, gripe less and cheer more, sit less and move more, discourage less and encourage more, eat less and pray more, fear less and hope more, I feel the joy returning! I start to be more of who God created me to be!

It’s easy to get lost and confused in the everyday, especially if we are going through the daily grind feeling unsatisfied and insignificant. We get trapped into wishing our lives away.

I say “we” because I am guilty of this, too. I still have days when I feel sad, down, or worried. Some days, I have a hard time getting started. The key to my joy is focusing on what God tells me, not what the world throws at me. A new beginning can begin at any time. Here’s how:

1.   Say to yourself, “It’s time for a change.”

You are never too old to change or begin again. Change often means changing what you commit to. Practice saying “no” to the things you need to let go of and “yes” to the things that will improve your life, make you better, and fill you with joy, because they are what you love to do.

Instead of shooting from the hip, shoot from the lip! Get a grip on the lip so life won’t be exhausting. Say no and refocus on what gives you joy and purpose. Your greatest accomplishments will be that you had the courage to begin and the endurance to keep going.

The only way to experience joy in your journey is to do what you have a passion for, do what is right for you. Move forward, keep your eyes on the goal, and never miss the blessings along the way. Do what you can to make things happen in a positive way, and quickly dismiss negativity. Live a life you can be proud of. If your priorities change and you find yourself hiding from people or feeling ashamed, find the strength to start over again, even if that means saying, “I’m sorry.”

2.  Decide what is most important, and stick with it.

Busyness is not a spiritual gift. It distracts you from what is important. There is a big difference between being busy and being productive. Instead of running nowhere in every direction, walk in the direction you want to go.

Make a list of the most important things in your life. List them in order. Give up the things that weigh you down and cause imbalance. They can make you angry, stressed, snappy, and cold. When we have balance, we are more kind, caring, compassionate, and understanding. Only then can we make a profound difference in the lives of others, as well as ourselves. Compassion will have us hugging the hopeless, comforting the sad and grieving, and laughing with those who haven’t laughed in a long time.

3.  Choose to be positive.

Life gets better when you decide to make it better; it always begins with a choice. Moaning and groaning and whining are a trap. Do not give in to this kind of behavior.

Life is full of challenges and opportunities. When you grasp courage and boldness with both hands, you can make a difference, not only in your life but the lives of others. People are attracted to such people because, when the world feels like it is crashing down, positive people will find a way out of the chaos with a grin on their faces.

4. Realize you can’t fix everything or everyone.

We can only control ourselves; as hard as we try, we cannot control others. When we try to, we become entangled in a web of confusion, frustration, and stress. Then we have a mess. When it looks like nothing is changing and you are manipulating a situation outside your control, go to a quiet place, refocus, and let God deal with it. You are not a self-appointed Holy Spirit for people. God can handle it better than you can. Let go of the need to control everyone else’s lives, and search within the depths of your soul for the peace that surpasses all understanding.

5. Leave the past behind.

We all have a story to tell and a wound to heal. Some of us visit the dark places of our past day after day. We know it’s poison, but we continue to embrace it thinking we can put the pieces of the puzzle together again. Or we go over the “woulda, shoulda, couldas” thinking we can change the past.

Leave the pieces where they are. Walk out of the dark place knowing that the puzzle can’t be put back the way it was. Close the door; walk into the light with your arms open wide. Get on the path to recovery, hope, joy, and peace. Seek to “get even” with all those who have done right by you and stop wasting time trying to get even with those who have done you wrong.

6. Be an inspiration.

No matter how overwhelming life’s challenges and problems appear to be, or how insignificant you might feel, you can make a difference in the world. You can’t be everything to everybody, but you can still be something to someone. Most people will tell you that the reason they changed is because someone cared enough to listen and show them kindness in a world that at times is so unkind.

When our final days come, we will not remember entire days, we will remember moments. The big things we tried to accomplish often pale in the end when compared to the little blessings along the way. Don’t let something that does matter lose out to something that doesn’t. Take time to notice those things from this day forward, one day and one decision at a time. And taste a little joy in your journey.

Sunflowers have an interesting story. When they are young, they follow the path of the sun; when the sun can no longer be seen, they turn and face each other to gather energy and strength because they have not yet learned to harness and store the sun’s energy for cloudy days.

Here is the question for today, how much more could we accomplish if we, like the young sunflowers in our times of lack, uncertainty, or needing strength, turn toward each other instead of away isolating ourselves?

Here is the challenge for today; know you are not alone. Lean and depend on your source of spiritual strength, friends, and family, who have proven themselves to be true to share their energy and strength with you. To hold you up in a time of need, until you can harness the power of the sun, once again.

“Never be ashamed about being broken, because strength is nothing  but pain that’s been repaired.”- Trent Shelton

Finding Joy in the Journey, Not Just the Destination

by The Enlightenment Journey ·

Finding Joy in the Journey, Not Just the Destination

Understanding the Importance of the Journey

Life is a journey full of twists and turns, ups and downs, and unexpected detours. While reaching a destination may be our ultimate goal, it’s essential to understand the significance of the journey itself. The journey is where we grow, learn, and evolve into the best versions of ourselves. It shapes us, molds us, and prepares us for what lies ahead.

The journey helps us develop resilience, patience, and perseverance. It teaches us valuable lessons that we can carry with us throughout our lives. Without the journey, we would not be equipped to handle the challenges that come our way. It is a crucial part of personal development and self-discovery.

The journey is where we find joy in the process of becoming. It allows us to savor each moment, learn from our experiences, and appreciate the beauty of the present. By understanding the importance of the journey, we can embrace it wholeheartedly and make the most of every step along the way.

Embracing the Process of Growth and Learning

Embracing the process of growth and learning is essential if we want to find joy in the journey. Growth and learning go hand in hand with personal development and self-improvement. They push us out of our comfort zones, challenge our beliefs, and help us evolve into better versions of ourselves.

Embracing growth and learning means being open to new experiences, willing to take risks, and eager to expand our horizons. It requires a growth mindset, where setbacks are seen as opportunities for growth, and failures are viewed as stepping stones to success.

The Enlightenment Journey - Subscribe Now So You Don't Miss Out!

When we embrace the process of growth and learning, we become more adaptable, resilient, and capable of overcoming obstacles. We see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks to our success. By embracing growth and learning, we can fully immerse ourselves in the journey and appreciate the transformation it brings.

Appreciating the Small Moments Along the Way

In our quest to reach our destination, we often overlook the small moments that make the journey worthwhile. These moments are the ones that bring us joy, laughter, and a sense of fulfillment. They are the simple pleasures that add color to our lives and make the journey memorable.

Appreciating the small moments along the way requires mindfulness and gratitude. It means slowing down, being present in the moment, and savoring the little things that bring us joy. Whether it’s a beautiful sunset, a heartfelt conversation, or a moment of peace and tranquility, these small moments are what make life meaningful.

When we take the time to appreciate the small moments along the way, we cultivate a sense of gratitude and contentment. We learn to find joy in the simple things and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. By paying attention to these moments, we can truly enjoy the journey and make the most of every step we take.

Finding Fulfillment in the Present Moment

Finding fulfillment in the present moment is key to experiencing true joy in the journey. Often, we get so caught up in chasing our goals and aspirations that we forget to enjoy the here and now. However, true fulfillment can only be found in the present moment, where we can fully immerse ourselves in the journey and appreciate all that it has to offer.

Finding fulfillment in the present moment requires mindfulness and presence. It means letting go of worries about the future or regrets about the past and focusing on the now. By being fully engaged in the present moment, we can experience peace, contentment, and a sense of fulfillment that transcends external achievements.

When we find fulfillment in the present moment, we no longer feel the need to constantly chase after the next big thing. Instead, we can appreciate the journey for what it is and find joy in the process of becoming. By living in the present moment, we can unlock a deeper sense of fulfillment that enriches our lives in profound ways.

Letting Go of the Obsession with the End Goal

While having goals and aspirations is important, obsessing over the end goal can detract from the joy of the journey. When we fixate on the destination, we miss out on the beauty of the path that leads us there. Letting go of the obsession with the end goal allows us to fully embrace the journey and appreciate all that it has to offer.

Letting go of the obsession with the end goal requires a shift in mindset. It means focusing on the process rather than the outcome, on the journey rather than the destination. By letting go of our attachment to specific outcomes, we can open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences that we may have otherwise overlooked.

When we let go of the obsession with the end goal, we free ourselves from the pressure to constantly achieve and succeed. Instead, we can enjoy the journey for what it is, with all its twists and turns, challenges and triumphs. By releasing our attachment to the end goal, we can find joy in the journey itself and appreciate the growth and learning that it brings.

Cultivating a Mindset of Gratitude and Positivity

Cultivating a mindset of gratitude and positivity is essential for finding joy in the journey. A grateful heart and a positive outlook can transform how we perceive the world around us and enhance our overall well-being. By adopting a mindset of gratitude and positivity, we can shift our focus from what we lack to what we have, from negativity to positivity.

Cultivating a mindset of gratitude involves appreciating the blessings in our lives, no matter how small. It means acknowledging the good things that come our way and expressing gratitude for them. By focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, we can cultivate a sense of abundance and contentment that fuels our journey with joy.

Similarly, cultivating a mindset of positivity involves maintaining an optimistic outlook, even in the face of challenges . It means reframing negative situations in a positive light, looking for the silver lining in every cloud. By cultivating a mindset of positivity, we can overcome obstacles with grace and resilience, knowing that every challenge is an opportunity for growth.

Celebrating Achievements, Big and Small

Celebrating achievements, big and small, is a crucial part of finding joy in the journey. Whether it’s reaching a major milestone or accomplishing a small goal, celebrating our achievements allows us to acknowledge our progress and recognize our hard work. By celebrating our achievements, we can boost our confidence, motivation, and sense of accomplishment.

Celebrating achievements, big and small, involves taking the time to acknowledge our successes and pat ourselves on the back. It means recognizing the effort and dedication that went into achieving our goals and giving ourselves credit where credit is due. By celebrating our achievements, we can build momentum and stay motivated to continue our journey.

When we celebrate our achievements, we reinforce positive behaviors and habits that lead to success. By recognizing our progress and celebrating our wins, we can cultivate a sense of pride and self-confidence that propels us forward. By celebrating achievements, big and small, we can infuse our journey with positivity, motivation, and a sense of fulfillment.

Accepting Setbacks as Part of the Journey

Setbacks are an inevitable part of any journey, but how we respond to them can make all the difference in our overall experience. Instead of viewing setbacks as failures, we can choose to see them as opportunities for growth and learning. Accepting setbacks as part of the journey allows us to bounce back stronger, wiser, and more resilient than before.

Accepting setbacks as part of the journey requires a shift in perspective. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong or blaming ourselves for our shortcomings, we can choose to see setbacks as temporary obstacles that we can overcome. By accepting setbacks as part of the journey, we can learn valuable lessons, refine our strategies, and emerge stronger on the other side.

When we accept setbacks as part of the journey, we cultivate a growth mindset that empowers us to navigate challenges with grace and resilience. We see setbacks not as roadblocks but as stepping stones to success. By accepting setbacks as part of the journey, we can embrace failure as an essential part of the learning process and continue moving forward with confidence and determination.

Building Resilience Through Challenges

Building resilience through challenges is a vital aspect of finding joy in the journey. Resilience allows us to bounce back from setbacks, overcome obstacles, and adapt to changing circumstances. By cultivating resilience, we can navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and fortitude, emerging stronger and more resilient than before.

Building resilience through challenges involves developing coping mechanisms, problem-solving skills, and emotional intelligence. It means learning to bounce back from adversity, cope with stress, and maintain a positive outlook in the face of challenges. By building resilience, we can weather any storm that comes our way and emerge more resilient and empowered on the other side.

When we build resilience through challenges, we develop a sense of inner strength and confidence that carries us through difficult times. We learn to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, knowing that each obstacle we overcome makes us stronger and more resilient. By building resilience through challenges, we can find joy in the journey, knowing that we have the strength and tenacity to overcome any obstacle that comes our way.

Focusing on Personal Development and Self-Improvement

Focusing on personal development and self-improvement is key to finding joy in the journey. When we invest in ourselves, we grow, learn, and evolve into the best versions of ourselves. Personal development and self-improvement are essential components of the journey, helping us reach our full potential and live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Focusing on personal development and self-improvement involves setting goals, acquiring new skills, and challenging ourselves to step outside our comfort zones. It means seeking out opportunities for growth, learning from our experiences, and striving to become the best version of ourselves. By focusing on personal development and self-improvement, we can transform our lives and create a path to success and fulfillment.

When we focus on personal development and self-improvement, we invest in our future and set ourselves up for success. We become more adaptable, resilient, and confident in our abilities. By focusing on personal development and self-improvement, we can unlock our full potential and discover the joy of continual growth and self-discovery.

Connecting with Others on the Same Path

Connecting with others on the same path can enhance our journey and bring a sense of community and support. When we surround ourselves with like-minded individuals who share our goals and aspirations, we can draw inspiration, motivation, and encouragement from their experiences. Connecting with others on the same path allows us to learn from each other, grow together, and celebrate our successes as a collective.

Connecting with others on the same path involves building meaningful relationships, forming partnerships, and joining communities that share our values and beliefs. It means reaching out to others for support, guidance, and camaraderie, knowing that we are not alone on our journey. By connecting with others on the same path, we can create a network of support that empowers us to overcome challenges and achieve our goals.

When we connect with others on the same path, we create a sense of belonging and unity that enriches our journey. We can share our experiences, learn from each other’s successes and failures, and grow together as a community. By connecting with others on the same path, we can find strength, motivation, and camaraderie that propels us forward on our journey towards success and fulfillment.

Living a Life of Purpose and Meaning

Living a life of purpose and meaning is the ultimate goal of finding joy in the journey. When we live with intention, passion, and meaning, we can create a life that is fulfilling, rewarding, and truly meaningful. Living a life of purpose and meaning involves aligning our actions with our values, passions, and beliefs, and striving to make a positive impact on the world around us.

Living a life of purpose and meaning means following our hearts, pursuing our dreams, and making a difference in the lives of others. It means living authentically, with integrity, and with a sense of purpose that guides our actions and decisions. By living a life of purpose and meaning, we can find joy in the journey, knowing that our lives have meaning and significance.

When we live a life of purpose and meaning, we can create a legacy that extends beyond ourselves and impacts future generations. We can find fulfillment in knowing that we have lived a life of purpose, passion, and meaning. By living a life of purpose and meaning, we can find joy in the journey and create a path to a life that is truly rewarding and fulfilling.

In conclusion, finding joy in the journey, not just the destination, is essential for living a fulfilling and meaningful life. By understanding the importance of the journey, embracing growth and learning, appreciating the small moments along the way, and finding fulfillment in the present moment, we can make the most of every step we take. By letting go of the obsession with the end goal, cultivating a mindset of gratitude and positivity, celebrating achievements, and accepting setbacks as part of the journey, we can build resilience, focus on personal development, and connect with others on the same path. Ultimately, by living a life of purpose and meaning, we can find joy in the journey and create a path to a life that is truly rewarding and fulfilling.

Journey To Joy (# 18 in The Bregdan Chronicles Historical Fiction Romance Series) Kindle Edition

Felicia goes on a journey that will challenge her beyond anything she could have imagined.

Rose and Moses are stretched to the limit as they come to a new awareness of just how far their country still has to go.

Elizabeth and Peter marry in Boston – welcoming everyone North during the springtime.

When everyone just wants a life of joy, they learn the lesson that it’s a journey they will be on for the rest of their lives.

********************

Volume # 18 of the Bregdan Chronicles continues the sweeping historical saga that now encompasses 1872.

How many books will be in the Bregdan Chronicles? No one knows yet… Ginny intends to write these character's stories for as long as she is able to write. She is passionate about bringing history to life through historical fiction. Since she is amazingly healthy, that could be for quite a while! She doesn’t like stories to end any more than you do. This one won't end for a very long time! Review: When a friend first told me about this series of Ginny Dye books, I sort of thought I would pull up a sample in my Kindle App, read a few pages and tell my friend it was good, but just my cup of tea. Well, I was sure wrong. I didn't even finish the free sample I was reading. I stopped, immediately ordered the first book and it was on my Kindle in a few short minutes. The storylines are not only educational, but the characters come alive and now they feel like family. The only downside now, 18 books later, is that I have to wait for the next book to be released. Great job, Ginny. Patiently awaiting #19. Review: The Bregdan Chronicles series is my all time favorite. I have devoured each book. I put on my calendar the release dates of the upcoming sequels, as to not miss even a single day before I could resume reading them. I love history in general, but these books included actual additional people and detailed facts that most books ignore just to keep the number of pages lower. Historical fiction lovers generally don't choose the books they read for the number of pages. It's the love of history, fiction and learning about life from someone else's perspective. Ginny Dye does an excellent job ! Keep them coming.

Review: First let me say I love The Bregdan Chronicles Series so I was thrilled to get Journey To Joy! The character development, historical details and solid, positive messaging make Ginny Dye's books a "must read" for me. Journey To Joy was very engrossing to read and has so many lovable, strong characters. This is not a sugar coated story of the South in the last half of the 1800s. It was a horrible time in America and is written as such. However, the messages of persistance, courage, hope and love are ever present throughout. You might want to keep the tissues handy, Ginny Dye is an expert at making the reader feel all the feels! LOL

About the author

Hello Readers!

I was only 16 years old when my dying grandfather called me to his bedside, took my hand and said, "You have the gift of writing that I never used. Whatever you do, don't let it go to waste like I did."

Scared I wasn't as talented as my beloved "Dandy", I quit writing. 14 years later, bedridden in California from one of the first diagnosed cases of Epstein-Barr Virus, this athletic, active woman wrote her first book to keep from going crazy. I finished the book, got better, and stuffed the book in an envelope - never intending to do anything with it.

3 and a 1/2 years later the book was discovered by a friend who then proceeded to harangue me about publication. Worn down, I finally submitted it. It was my first book published. Almost 25 years later, there are now 50+ books published, but that is just the beginning. I have so many more inside me!

I believe in the power of the written word to change lives. I also believe that historical novels can implant the Bregdan Principle in people's hearts and minds.

The Bregdan Principle...Every life that has been lived until today is a part of the woven braid of life. It takes every person's story to create history. Your life will help determine the course of history. You may think you don't have much of an impact. You do. Every action you take will reflect in someone else's life. Someone else's decisions. Someone else's future. Both good and bad.

My passion is to write powerful and entertaining historical fiction through the sweeping saga called the Bregdan Chronicles.

I am also passionate about the Bregdan Woman Journals, my BEST EVER DREAM Series, the Pepper Crest High Series, my World Changer Series, and everything else that can be communicated via writing! Basically - I'm just PASSIONATE!

When I decided to write Children's books, I never imagined how much FUN I would have! The fact that children and parents love them so much makes it even MORE FUN! I started with the BEST EVER DREAM Series - that will grow to 50+ titles.

I will admit writing is not my only passion, however. I am also the CEO and Founder of Millions For Positive Change. This amazing organization is committed to providing all the resources people need to make a difference with their life - and mobilizing them all over the world. Want to make a difference? What to know your life counts? Go to www.MillionsForPositiveChange.com.

And when I'm not writing or running my company? I love anything outdoors, but tops on my list are hiking in the mountains with my dog, rowing, biking, swimming, tennis, windsurfing, snowshoeing... I have a very big "tops on my list"!

Mostly, I am just very happy to have you in my world! You can come visit me anytime at www.BregdanPublishing.com!

And, you can read my BLOG at https://iamavoiceintheworld.wordpress.com/

Blessings to you!

Joy Bible Verses

Joy Bible Verses

Joy is one of the most prominent themes of the Bible. From the very beginning, God’s plan for mankind has been to bring us joy and peace. Throughout the Bible, we see stories of joy in response to God’s blessings and celebration of His promises. In the Old Testament, the Israelites rejoiced and sang songs of joy when they escaped from the Egyptians and made their way to the Promised Land. In the New Testament, Jesus brings joy to those who follow Him, and encourages others to do the same. The Apostle Paul also speaks of joy in his letters, urging believers to be joyful even in difficult circumstances. The Bible teaches us that joy is a gift from God, and that it is something to be celebrated and shared with others.

Bible verses about joy can help Christians who may be going through a difficult season as a reminder of calm happiness through faith in God. Joy is rooted in who God is. It is not fleeting or based on circumstances. Worldly possessions, accomplishments, even the people in our lives, are blessings that make us happy and fuel joyfulness. However, the Bible teaches that the source of all joy is Jesus. God’s plan from the beginning, the Word made flesh to dwell among us, is rock solid, allowing us to navigate difficult situations without happiness while sustaining our joy.

‘Joy in the journey’: Elder Soares ministers in Mongolia and Japan

Elder ulisses soares shares with members, leaders and missionaries how they can serve in the kingdom of god, strengthen the faith of the rising generation and strengthen marriages.

Elder Ulisses Soares in formal attire, smiling and shaking hands with missionaries.

By Church News

Elder Ulisses Soares  learned as a Primary kid how to minister one by one, and it has directed his apostolic ministry to this day.

After his parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, branch members showed their love for the Soares family by extending support, inviting them to home evenings and visiting their home to personally get acquainted. And Elder Soares, now of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, still remembers his Primary teacher, Sister Lopes, who would stop by once in a while to better help him understand what he learned in Sunday classes.

“That example remained in my heart as a foundation for my service in the Church,” he recalled. “Her attention and care about ‘one’ made all the difference in my approaches in my ministry in the Church among members.”

The Big Picture

  • Dive into a whirlwind of emotions with Inside Out 2 , hitting theaters on June 14 with a stellar voice cast and new characters.
  • Dolby Vision and Dolby Cinema technology elevate the visual and audio experience to a whole new level for this highly anticipated sequel.
  • Explore Riley's journey through puberty and new emotions like Anxiety and Envy in this sequel that promises to be an emotional roller coaster.

Inside Out 2 releases this week, and it's shaping up to be one of the biggest films of the year. And when it comes to big films, the biggest and best screens possible are where they should be watched. Pixar’s boss Pete Docter just dropped some juicy tidbits about how Dolby Vision and Dolby Cinema are going to blow your mind, and Collider is delighted to exclusively reveal the sneak peek to our readers.

Kelsey Mann takes the helm in his feature directorial debut, with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein . The voice cast is a dream team : Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. New voices include Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy , Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment. Plus, newcomers and veterans like Kensington Tallman, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, and June Squibb join the fun.

“It was just happenstance that the Dolby folk came by and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got this new technology, Dolby Vision,’” Docter recalls in the featurette. “And oh my gosh, the first film we were able to use it on was Inside Out , the first one. It is insane, it’s like colors you’ve never seen before.” Imagine the vibrancy of Joy’s yellow glow or the fiery red of Anger—Dolby Vision takes it all to a whole new level. Docter also reminisces about one of his most vivid experiences with Dolby Vision .

“I remember seeing Anger blow his top and I felt like I felt heat from the screen. It’s crazy, and I think this film really takes advantage of the dynamic range, the color spectrum, the darks, the lights. You’ve got to check it out.”

Dolby Cinema: The Ultimate Movie Experience

So, what’s the big deal about Dolby Cinema? Well, buckle up. Dolby Cinema offers guests the complete Dolby movie experience. This isn’t just about watching a movie; it’s about living it. With Dolby Vision, you get ultra-vivid colors and subtle details that make each frame pop. And Dolby Atmos? It’s the kind of sound that makes you duck when something flies your way. Inside Out 2 , with its explosion of emotions and stunning visuals, will be perfectly showcased in this format.

What Is 'Inside Out 2' About?

In Inside Out 2 , we’re back in Riley’s mind as she navigates the nightmare that is puberty. The headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for new Emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui . Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are going to have their hands full. With a focus on complex emotions and personality development, the sequel promises to be an emotional roller coaster. The first 35 minutes shown at Disney's CinemaCon 2024 had everyone buzzing about Riley's growth spurts, braces, and a burgeoning sense of self.

Mark your calendars because Inside Out 2 hits theaters on June 14. Get ready to experience a whirlwind of emotions in Dolby Vision and Dolby Cinema.
