EXPLORER VILLAGE

The Safari Journey at the Explorer Village is the main zone attraction. Wadi, or the Valley area, is where you can host a picnic or grab a quick bite from the restaurants inside Dubai Safari Park. Both restaurants overlook the river. So, you can watch ducks, peacocks, swans and even pelicans while enjoying your food!

DUBAI SAFARI PARK TIMINGS

The Dubai Safari Park time is from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm (Monday to Sunday). A tour of the whole park easily takes over 5 hours, so ensure you have enough time to explore everything when you plan your visit.

SUSTAINABILITY AND CONSERVATION EFFORTS

The ambitious attraction offers more than entertainment. The park is built on a landfill site and has thus transformed the area into a reusable space. Furthermore, the park has adopted several eco-friendly and sustainable technologies, like harnessing solar energy to power facilities and electric vehicles.

How to go to Dubai Safari Park by metro

For those who don’t have a car, the easiest way to get to Safari Park by public transportation is to take the Dubai Metro to the Creek Metro Station on the Green Line. From there you would need to take a taxi. The taxi ride from the Creek Metro to Dubai Safari Park is about 16 minutes.

Where is Dubai Safari Park located ?

It is located in Al Warqa’a 5 and is approximately a 12-minute drive from International City . You can easily access the park via Al Awir/ Ras Al Khor Road or Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (D54). The park isn’t far for those living in villas for rent in Mirdif or flats for rent in Al Warqaa .

What should I wear during the visit?

Dubai Safari Park – A Great Wildlife Project

Dubai Safari Park, located in Al Warqa’a is another jewel in the crown of the happening city. Opened on 12th of December 2017 the Dubai Safari Park promises to be an affordable and economical recreational option for all. This project replaces the 50-year-old zoo in Jumeirah. Lack of space and adverse conditions of the Dubai Zoo was a point of main concern which led to this initiative. The safari park now houses the existing animals from the Jumeirah Zoo plus new ones. This massive wildlife project consists of 250 species, including endangered species.

Some of the critically endangered species were announced to be a part of an international breeding program involving the breeding of animals to send them to other zoos or to be released into the wild. There is now a total of more than 2,500 animals with a planned addition of approximately 2,500 more. The area of the safari park is spread over 120 hectares of land, which has been divided into five villages.

The Safari Village

This is not your conventional zoo where you only get to view the animals lounging around in their cages or small enclosures created for them. You now get to view them in a more natural habitat.

For a tour of the safari village, an air-conditioned car specially designed for the tour will give you a classic, close-up view of the exotic animals and their lifestyles. Consider it an escapade into the jungles of Africa and Asia, where you can behold lush, tropical forest sights. Animals inhabiting the Safari Village include bears, baboons, water buffaloes, zebras, and deer. You can witness the majestic brown lions soaking up the sun, cheetahs on their racing tracks and tigers in their enclosure with the splendid, gurgling waterfalls to keep them cool.

You get to view the crocodiles at close-quarters in the world’s first drive-through hypo-aquarium, giving you better look at the formidable reptilian creatures. Other attractions include brown bears, a bird theatre with 6 shows and feeding areas for giraffes. An expedition of this region of the Safari Park can take anywhere from 45 to 120 minutes.

The Arabian Village

Now let’s enter the region that constitutes the Arabian village Arabian village. This tract of land consists of sandy deserts, and rocky mountains, and the steppe showing you the Arabian habitat landscape surrounding the wildlife. A steppe is a vast area of barren land without any plantation except for shrubs. A luxuriant meadow filled with a great variety of flora and fauna is a welcome sight. Populating this territory you will meet Arabian wolves, Antelopes, and Nilgais. Nilgai is the largest Asian Antelope.

African Village

Moving to the African region of the park which welcomes you with a set of the African savannas and rainforest, gives you feel of the real African landscapes. Here you will be greeted by the giant tortoises, chimpanzees, hyenas, flamingos, African wild dogs and the regal white lions. Even in this village, you can take the train or Safari car to ride around and enjoy the animals. There are four stops where you can walk and watch the white lions ready to play through the glass walls, plus gorillas, pygmy hippos, lemur, bongo and okapi which is one of the endangered species that the forest is breeding. The ride around this section of the park will take somewhere between 90 to 140 minutes.

Asian Village

Here in the Asian village the scenery, the environment, the landscape is all set to reflect the Asian forests. You can take a walk along the dense trees of the enclosure and witness the beautiful Asian creatures. This will require at around 30 to 90 minutes of your time. The species to see here are the Komodo Dragons, Moon Bears and Gibbons. Along with these, there are elephants, pandas and monkeys and a variety of birds and reptiles.

The Children’s Farm

Visiting the Dubai safari park with children, you just cannot miss out on the most adventurous section of the park. Close to the park’s entrance is the children’s corner specially designed to keep the children involved. This is an educational spot where children can learn about farm animals, their importance and how to take care of them. The farm features farm animals such as sheep, cows, goats and chickens. Activities involve collecting milk and eggs and riding ponies.

Wadi Village

Of course, no tourist spot is complete without eateries. The Wadi village offers you a relaxing spot which has water streams flowing through it and fishing ponds all powered by solar energy. After the tour, you can relax in the green valley and treat yourself to the delicious foodstuff being offered by the restaurants and eateries.

Special Features

The park has special facilities to maintain a suitably cool environment for the animals. Air-conditioned rocks, misting fans and chilled and chilled pools have been installed all over the park. There is a large theatre that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. This theatre host shows featuring different animals. They have eco-friendly vehicles for touring. This park features a UAE’s biggest walk-through aviary in the African village and the first drive-through hippo and tiger exhibit. They introduced the world’s first drive-through crocodile exhibit.

The Safari Park, located opposite Dragon Mart on Hatta Road in Al Warqa’a 5 is open to the public from 9 am to 7 p.m. However the tickets stop selling at 5 p.m. or when the park was filled to capacity. The tickets are available for purchase from the main building of the park or you can here +971 800 900 to book your tickets on phone. The ticket prices are as follows: For full access to all areas of the park, obtain a combo ticket at 85 AED for adults and 30 AED for children.

For entry to all areas except the Safari Village obtain the Dubai Safari Park Ticket at 50 AED for adults and 20 AED for children (The same ticket prices apply if you only wish to visit the Safari village).

There is free entry for the elderly above the age of 60, for children below 3 years of age and people with special needs (accompanied by 2 people).

Future attractions

There are plans to introduce about 2,000 more animals, Australian and South African villages, veterinary, zoo-keeping and conservation courses to educate people and bring awareness among them regarding wildlife. The park was closed on 15 May 2017 for further up gradation and is expected to re-open in the month October with more features. Arabian Desert Safari

Influenced by the vast and endless desert of Western Asia, the Arabian Desert Safari is a drive-through attraction and is filled with some of the most prominent emblematic species belonging to the Arabian Peninsula. The theme of this village is to bring life to the traditional nomadic desert of the Arabian Peninsula.

The hero animal of this village is the Arabian Wolf. A subspecies of the grey wolf, it thrives on the Arabian Peninsula. Despite being among the tiniest species of wolves, it has amazingly adapted to desert life. You will find them in pairs or small groups instead of large packs.

The conservation status of Arabian Wolves is vulnerable since they are often shot down or poisoned by farmers as these carnivores are prone to eat domestic animals like goats.

The native animals of this village are Arabian Gazelle, Addax, Arabian Oryx, Mountain Gazelle, Sand Gazelle, and Scimitar-horned Oryx.

Asian Village

Inspired by the rich ornate architecture of Asia, the Asian Village will take you on a splendid journey into the diversified culture of the continent. You will find a wide range of thriving wildlife since, just like in the continent itself, this portion of the park is brimmed with animals that live anywhere from the thick bushes of the forest to the pristine ponds.

The hero animal of the Asian Village is the Moon Bear. Carnivorous by nature, it gets its name because of the moon-like crescent-shaped white patch on its chest. Extremely huge in size, the males can grow up to 150 kg while the females can weigh up to 90 kg. They are also known as Asiatic Black Bears.

Their conservation status is vulnerable due to illegal trading and poaching, loss of natural habitat in the wild, and cruel bile harvesting in captive breeding farms. These threats have made them vulnerable to exist freely, and initiatives taken down by this park are actions that can cause their numbers to finally rise.

The other native animals in the Asian Village are Gibbon, Mandarin Duck, and Southern Cassowary. Another attractive feature of this village is its exclusive show – ‘Amazing Creatures of the World’. The hero animal of this village is Cheetah, which is the fastest mammal on land. With a slender body and long limbs, their physique explains their extraordinary ability to run at an astonishing speech. So, creating a safe habitat for the continuation of life for the future generation of this iconic carnivore is paramount.

Some other attractive feature of this village includes the Colorful Birds Show, where you will get a close understanding of the complexities of the lives of several of nature’s winged ambassadors. This 25-minute edutainment is surely going to create memories that last a lifetime. The Safari Journey that takes place every day from 09:00 AM to 04:30 PM shouldn’t be missed since you get to be close to zebras, tigers, lions, rhinos, etc., in a drive-through trip. Providing a wholesome experience where you get to watch your kids play with various farmyard animals such as goats, donkeys, ducks, birds, ponies, and sheep, among others, it is a gift from the park to its younger visitors.

You can just spend hours at the Kids Far Aviary or the Goat Barn and will still want more because of how captivating it is being around these harmless animals. How to Reach Dubai Safari Park?

You can choose whatever mode of transportation you prefer to reach the park since it is situated at an accessible distance from almost all modes of transportation. Here is a quick guide to each of them.

By Private Cars and Taxis

Probably the most convenient mode of reaching the park, you can take your private car or book a taxi that is available 24/7.

You will find two gates at the park. Gate 1 is more accessible since it allows you to enter the park through the Ras Al Khor Road. This gate is slightly ahead and is on the opposite side of Dragon Mart. Gate 2, on the other hand, lets you enter through Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

Very easy on your pockets, metros are a convenient way to reach the park. Since the nearest metro station to the park is Rashidiya Metro Station, you need to get down there and take a cab to the park.

Buses are economical means to reach the park, and you have to get down near Dragon Mart 2nd Terminus. From there, you need to book a cab to the park.

Parking Areas

There are three parking areas near the Dubai Safari Park. While P1 is the nearest to the park and has added access to electric vehicle charging points, P2 is at a 5-minute walking distance from the park. P3, although is the farthest from the park, has a free service of shuttle vehicles that will take you to the park upon availability.

Park Timings

Dubai Safari Park is open all seven days of the week from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. The last entry to the main gate for ticket holders is at 04:00 PM, while the final entry for non-ticket holders at the main gate is at 03:30 PM. So, please make sure you get yourself at the main gate before this.

We recommend you visit the park as early as possible in the morning. It is relatively less crowded in the morning, and it will also allow you to roam around and explore every part of the park if you start early, as it is spread over a large area.

You can get up, close and personal with wild animals as the Dubai Safari Park reopens its doors for the 2021 season from September 27. The park houses a diverse community of animals from across the world living in a climate-controlled environment similar to their natural habitat.

An animal kingdom

The 116-hectare park is home to around 3,000 animals, including 78 species of mammals – 10 different carnivores and 17 primates – 50 types of reptiles; 111 kinds of birds as well as amphibians and invertebrates.

Dubai Safari is home to the world’s first drive-through crocodile exhibit; the UAE’s largest group of baboons; the largest drive-through lion exhibit; and the country’s only drive-through hippo and tiger exhibits.

What’s new this season?

For the first time, the park will offer a behind the-scenes experience. This allows visitors to get close to the animals, learn about their habitat and ways of caring for them – all under the watchful guidance of an animal shepherd.

New animals at the sanctuary include the squirrel monkey, Mona monkey, Arabian wolf, and the northern white-cheeked gibbon. In addition, the park has 111 newborns of different animal species.

The winter season of the park will host a Leopard Exhibition, the bird show, a display of ‘amazing creatures of the world’ and birds of prey.

The area devoted to Arab wolves has been expanded by 10,000 square meters. The area contains many local trees and plants, in addition to unique formations of sand dunes and water, which have been developed to create a suitable environment for these animals. This area is considered the largest island sheltering Arabian wolves.

Arabian Desert Safari

This drive-through zone presents the wondrous landscapes across the deserts of Western Asia. You can look forward to meeting some of the Arabian world’s most fascinating creatures at Arabian Desert Safari. See Arabian wolf, Arabian oryx, Arabian gazelle, addax, camel, sand gazelle, mountain gazelle, and scimitar-horned oryx, among many others. With a marshal by your side, you not only get to see these animals up close but learn some fascinating facts about them. Depending on the time and ticket option, a variety of immersive activities and experiences (ideal for all abilities and age groups) await you on your visit here.

Explorer Village

With a drive-through safari as its main attraction, it will take you on a thrilling exploration of the striking ecosystems of Asia and Africa. This safari journey aboard a purpose-built vehicle allows for an up-close encounter with some of the rarest and most regal animals, all roaming around in their natural habitat. Spot the village’s hero animal, cheetah, and other animals like brown lion, baboon, addax, striped hyena, gray crowned crane, African buffalo, hog deer, Sambar deer, and Nile crocodile on this approximately 45-minute drive. You can also feed giraffes and watch a colorful 25-minute birds’ show in this zone.

African Village

Get the authentic feel of Africa as you step into this zone adorned with traditional structures and baobab trees. Suggestive of its name, its main draw is some incredibly mighty animals, mammals, reptiles, and birds that are indigenous to Africa. Cheetah, white lion, silver pheasant, greater flamingo, ring-tailed lemur, peacock, Nicobar pigeon, black lorry, pygmy hippo, and wood duck are just a few to mention. That said, the village’s hero animal is the African elephant, which is the largest land mammal that weighs about 6,000 kilograms. It also houses various intriguing attractions, such as Gorilla House, Chimpanzee House, Reptile House, and the Grand Aviary, which is the country’s largest aviary.

Asian Village

You will find one of the greatest wildlife gatherings that represent the Asian continent in this zone. One of its star highlights is the Moon Bear, or Asiatic Black Bear, which stands out for its white crescent-like patch on its chest. There are more residents, including Mandarin ducks, gibbons, and southern cassowaries. But it is not all about its inhabitants, as this themed village seamlessly captures Asia’s unequaled cultural diversity. Apart from these, don’t miss out on the Amazing Creatures of the World show at the Asian Village Theatre, where animals display their distinct natural traits of flying, walking, or swimming in a pleasant setting.

Is it possible to access the trains within the park.

The train service for traveling between the villages within the park is exclusively available to guests with PLUS tickets, which can only be obtained through online bookings. Moreover, guests with POD tickets can gain access to the trains by presenting their tickets at each station.

Is there a dress code that needs to be followed to enter the park?

To ensure a pleasant experience, it is recommended that guests wear comfortable clothing and shoes. As Dubai Safari Park is a family-friendly environment and a government entity, respectful attire that covers the shoulders and knees is mandatory within the park facilities. Visitors who fail to adhere to the dress code may be denied entry at the park's entrance and asked to cover up.

When you arrive at the park, we recommend that you pick up a map and check the daily entertainment schedule posted in the park to plan out your day and make the most of your visit. All of the daytime live entertainment, rides, and attractions in the park are included in the price of your ticket, so you are free to explore the park at your leisure with unlimited access to all of the rides on the day of your visit.

By bus: the closest stop is Dragon Mart or the Creek bus stop. From here, you can take a taxi to Dubai Safari Park.

Dubai Safari Park Map

Dubai Safari Park is spread on a vast 119 hectare land with different zones. To make sure that you know where you are at any point, it is better that you have the park map with you. You can easily download the Dubai Safari Park map onto your phone so that you’re aware of all the facilities available nearby you. You can also approach the park staff at any point to help you with any of your needs.

Discounted Tickets: People of Determination (people with disabilities) along with two companions can enter the park for free. Make sure to carry your SANAD Card to get your free entry.

Wheelchair Accessibility: The entire Dubai Safari Park is fully equipped to be accessed by wheelchair. You can avail wheelchairs at the guest service counter upon request at a nominal fee. All the park transportation, i.e. the buses, train and taxi are all wheelchair accessible. There are also wheelchair accessible toilets available on the premises.

Locker: There are no locker facilities available at the park. However, you can speak to the staff at the entrance and they will make sure to keep your belongings safe while you’re inside the park.
Prayer Rooms: Prayer rooms are available at the Main Building, the African Village, the Explorer Village and the Asian Village. Approach the staff to guide you to these rooms.
Wifi: You can avail free wifi during your visit in the park. You can get the name and password for the wifi network at the entrance.
First Aid: There is an in-house paramedics team available to assist you with any injuries or emergencies during the park operation hours.
Lost & Found: If you lose any of your belongings in the park, you can approach the staff or the main building to help you.
Baby Changing Rooms: There are baby changing rooms available in all the villages in the park.

Dubai Safari Park has 4 main restaurants and also other food trucks and kiosks available throughout the park to keep you well fed throughout your visit.

La Venezia: Enjoy delectable Italian and Continental cuisine at this cozy restaurant. With a diverse menu, this place is perfect for anyone who loves a delicious pizza.
Bait Al Qadeem: Located near the Chimpanzee House serves a variety of local Arabic and famous Persian dishes. The menu also represents the different communities in Dubai.
Oregano: This casual dining Italian restaurant is situated in the African Village Plaza and serves dishes drawing inspiration from the traditional Ligurian cuisine. A perfect place for a relaxing family lunch amidst nature.

Unlocking The Wild: A First-Hand Account Of A Dubai Safari Park Adventure

Surpassing its futuristic architecture and dip into innovation, Dubai is a city that knows how to pluck out global experiences and have them make a grand appearance in its city. Taking inspiration from the African animal safari, Dubai re-created that experience by opening up its own Safari Park at Al Warqa 5.

Divided into different zones, each with its own geographical theme, the park boasts the African village, the Asian village, and Al Wadi. It was an unmissable opportunity, so during our visit to Dubai, we decided to drop it a visit and see if it was actually worth the hype.

Through our experience, we were able to create a guide that includes everything, from prices to dos and don’ts.

Knowing that it’s a massive park of 119 hectares , it’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel like you have to get up early and arrive at 10 a.m. to visit the entire area, especially knowing that the park closes at 5 p.m.

On visiting the park, we found out that even if you arrive at 1 p.m., you’ll be able to visit the entire park before the clock strikes 5. Arriving at the entrance, we headed to the ticket counter, where a large glass-paneled display showcased four different packages to choose from.

We went for the 90-Dirham Safari Journey Package, which is probably the best option to truly experience the entire park. It has the actual replicated 35-minute safari bus tour as well as a 10-minute open bus Arabian desert safari experience. Along with that, you get free bus transportation to the entire park and its zones instead of having to walk.

African Village

Home to more than 3,000 animals, Dubai Safari Park is the perfect way to meet all the animals and learn new information about each one.

Across the park, the African village is a must-go-to, as it’s the biggest and has lots of animals, from lions to hippos, elephants, and giraffes.

At a typical zoo, there are square plaques in front of each cage with dense and boring information about the animals inside. Dubai Safari Park takes that boring technique and throws it out the window. Instead, you’ll find cool, interactive displays throughout the park.

For example, at the Chimpanzee House, they have a cool display of life-sized replicas of the hands of each type of ape, including gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans.

Guests get to place their hands on the replicated counterparts to compare their size to that of the monkeys. Turns out, the hands of the chimpanzee are very similar to our own.

Now, let’s take a journey to our next stop: Explorer Village, home to the safari journey experience.

Safari Journey

Unlike animal safaris in Africa, where the tour is usually done in an open-aired jeep, in Dubai, you get the safari experience in the comfort of a bus with expansive glass windows for a full view of the animals.

This wasn’t just any bus, as throughout the 35-minute trip, it was close to the animals to the point where a tiger was right below us, and we could see the minute details of each of its large black stripes.

In addition to being so close to animals, such as getting an up-close look at a lion’s gaping mouth and teeth as he took a massive yawn while perched on a rock, we got to learn cool nuggets of information from the guide sitting at the front of the bus.

She taught us about animals as we passed through more than 25 zones and got to see everything from crocodiles, buffalos, lions, tigers, and hippos to rhinos, zebras, baboons, antelopes, hyenas, and giraffes.

Giraffe Feeding

After the safari tour, you’ll find yourself back at Explorer Village. For the adventurous souls, the giraffe feeding zone at the village is a must-do.

Bear in mind you’ll have to pay 15 Dirhams for a pack of 5 peeled carrots to feed the giraffe. Feeding them is quite the experience, as they have elongated purple tongues akin to octopus tentacles that wiggle and move at rapid speeds.

We decided to have fun with the experience by wafting the carrot left and right to tease the giraffe. It was fun seeing it swoop in with its tongue and slurp the entire carrot into its throat in a rapid motion.

For anyone who loves farm animals, this is the place to go since you’ll get to touch and play with cows, donkeys, goats, and chickens. We got to pat a baby cow that had these deep, large black coal eyes, which is an experience we always wanted to try.

Besides the farm, there’s a caged space that’s home to the green parakeet. On entering, you’re given sunflower seeds to feed the green parakeets.

It’s super fun, as you merely reach out to them with an open-faced palm full of seeds, and you’ll find them either plucking them out of your hand or jumping onto your wrist and nibbling on their favorite meal. If you’re lucky, you might find one on top of your head or on your shoulder if they’re feeling extra friendly.

Asia Village

The park is a great experience, and what’s indicative of that is there was only one zone that we felt wasn’t worth the visit: the Asian village. It’s not only small in size, but it also houses 4 animals, all of which you could barely see as they’re pretty inactive, especially the black bear, which was hiding and sleeping behind a massive bridge.

All in all, visiting Dubai Safari Park is a fun, unique, and out-of-the-box experience that can be enjoyed in the city. It’s also a great and interactive way to learn about several animals in a way that’s not boring and overtly educational.
