Drake announces more shows on 2023 North American tour with 21 Savage

drake first tour

Drake is going on a North American tour for the first time in five years, and he's taking 21 Savage along for the ride.

The duo behind chart-topping single "Rich Flex," which debuted in the top slot of Billboard's Global 200 chart , will perform a 43-date arena tour this summer , adding 14 more performances to the initial 29 concerts announced. The It's All a Blur Tour includes stops across the U.S. and Canada kicking off on June 16 in New Orleans and wrapping up in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 5.

The last time Drake, 36, went on tour was half a decade ago for the Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour in 2018.

During his break from the road, the rapper put out a number of studio albums including "Her Loss" with 21 Savage, along with a smattering of other releases. The tour's name is a nod to Drake's work over the last five years, according to a Monday release.

The announcement delivers on a tease from Drake made during his January performance at the Apollo Theater in Harlem  while thanking fans. "I'll be out and about on the road this year, so I hope to see a lot of the same faces," he said at the time.

The Canadian rapper took to Instagram to announce the tour Monday with a montage-style video on Instagram. "IT’S ALL A BLUR TOUR with @21savage," he wrote. "Dates now live on DrakeRelated.com click the link in bio for more information and details for your location."

Drake and 21 Savage have long history

It's not surprising to see Drake and 21 Savage touring together, especially after the release of their 16-track project, "Her Loss,"   which they performed together at New York's famed Apollo Theater in January. All 16 tracks on "Her Loss" debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 last year.

The two also   shared the mic on "Mr. Right Now" from 21 Savage's 2020 "Savage Mode II" album and in turn, 21 Savage was featured on Drake's 2021 "Certified Lover Boy" with "Knife Talk." The two also closed out Drake's 2022 offering "Honestly, Nevermind" with "Jimmy Cooks."

He’s going “Back on the Road.” Drake announced his It’s All a Blur Tour with 21 Savage on Monday (March 13). The North American trek will kick off June 16 in New Orleans, and consists of 29 dates in arenas criss-crossing the country, with stops in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Montreal and more, before wrapping on Sept. 5 in Glendale, Ariz.

Black Coffee Claims Drake & Lil Baby Are Working On a Joint Album

This idea is reflected in a video Drake posted to his Instagram account announcing the trek. The visual kicks off with a young, smiling Drake walking, looking hopeful. As it progresses, the video focuses on a billboard that reads “STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM.” From there, the visual shows clips of him performing as a younger man, before cutting to him working his magic in front of ever-growing crowds. There are also scenes of Drake cradling and bottle-feeding infant son Adonis — who was born in 2017 — hopping on a private jet, and more. The video ends with the name of the tour in black text on a yellow background.

Since Drake’s last tour, he’s released several new albums, including Her Loss with tourmate 21 Savage, which dropped in November. The set debuted and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 , earning him his 12th topper on the all-genre tally. Honestly, Nevermind arrived just months earlier in June 2022 (No. 1 peak), and Certified Lover Boy in September 2021 (No. 1 for five weeks).

Tickets for the It’s All a Blur Tour, which is produced by Live Nation, will go on presale first with the Cash App Card on Wednesday (March 15) and Sprite on Thursday (March 16). General onsale kicks off Friday (March 17) at noon local time on DrakeRelated.com .

Drake announced Monday his It’s All a Blur tour with 21 Savage, the first North American tour for the Toronto rapper in five years.

Making 28 stops in the U.S. and Canada, the tour includes four Los Angeles-area shows in August: two at L.A.’s Crypto Arena and two more in Inglewood at the Kia Forum. Noticeably absent from the list of cities was Toronto, which will be added at a later date, along with other cities, according to a Live Nation statement.

The last time Drake toured in North America was 2018, with the Aubrey & the Three Migos tour , which featured Atlanta trio Migos. He followed that with an arena tour in Europe in 2019.

It’s All a Blur is being marketed as a retrospective of Drake’s career in the time since, including the release of his four most recent studio albums — “Scorpion,” “Certified Lover Boy,” “Honestly, Nevermind” and “Her Loss,” the last of which Drake recorded with 21 Savage.

Zooming out even further, Drake’s label, OVO Sound, announced the tour on Twitter and Instagram with a video montage set to ethereal instrumentals with shots from his “Nothing Was the Same” (2013) years, packed with blurry, candid shots of a younger Drake on the road, culminating in more recent footage of the rapper playing with his son, Adonis.

Some fans were buying the nostalgia, with one user tweeting , “Wow man, look how time flies. Loved growing with these albums over the years.”

To promote their 2022 chart-topping album, Drake and Atlanta-based 21 Savage released a string of stunts including a spoof of NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series and fake Vogue magazine covers . Vogue eventually sued the pair for $4 million. The two parties settled the suit last month for an undisclosed amount, according to reports.

Though Drake’s It’s All A Blur tour officially ended on April 5, 2024, fans may be curious to know whether—and when—they’ll be able to catch the artist on the road again this year. Especially given his near-constant appearance in headlines in recent weeks, the “First Person Shooter” rapper may surprise us with a new album and concert dates very soon. Though Drake hasn't officially announced another tour, we're sharing everything we know about how to ... [+] get Drake tickets in 2024, whenever they happen to go on sale.

Nordstrom’s half-yearly sale is live—here are 25 of the best deals, where to buy tickets for drake’s tour in 2024.

While we can’t say for sure when a new tour will be announced, we can speculate about where to buy Drake tickets when the time comes. They’ll probably sell out immediately on first-party sites, so in case you miss those, we’ve also included some ticket resellers to check as a backup.

  • Drake’s site on TicketMaster will definitely carry the artist’s concert tickets when they’re announced and on sale, so be sure to bookmark the page or set a custom alert so you can stay in the loop.

When Do Drake Tickets Go On Sale?

While there’s no concrete news about the dates or locations for the next Drake tour, there are already some rumors swirling about whether and when it may be announced. Drake has barely been out of the headlines since his last album, For All The Dogs , dropped last October, and especially so in the last six weeks since the It’s All A Blur tour ended. Drake’s beef with Kendrick Lamar went from “0 to 100” and has kept him busy and in the news.

Though we’ll spare you the saga on the feud in its entirety— a lot has happened between October of last year and now—we’ve been keeping up to look for clues on what might come next. On May 12, Drake took to Instagram and posted a story many are interpreting to mean that he’s stepping back from feuding with Lamar. On top of an illustration depicting one sworded soldier standing in front of an army that vastly outnumbers him, Drake added the text: “Good times. Summer vibes up next.”

We’re not qualified to determine who won this epic beef, but we’re relieved it’s over and hope that Drake can get some sleep. It’s entirely possible that “summer vibes” might be referencing a new album release and a tour to follow—and because Drake has been seen on stage with other acts like Nicki Minaj in recent weeks, he may very well be gearing back up for performances of his own.

Drake 2024 Tour Dates

Drake’s It’s All A Blur tour in North America started on July 5, 2023 in Chicago, Illinois and ended on April 5, 2024 in Newark, New Jersey. As soon as we learn of any new tour dates, we’ll update this article with everything you need to know about how to get Drake tickets for his next tour.

Drake's first Milwaukee concert, at Fiserv Forum, is one for the history books

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Drake's first-ever Milwaukee concert Friday at Fiserv Forum was predestined to be a big event.

In the end, it felt historic.

That sounds hyperbolic, but the singer and rapper's massive impact in hip-hop cannot be overstated. Aside from having each of his studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and making nearly 70 appearances in the top 10 of the Hot 100 singles chart, Drake changed hip-hop as we know it with his vulnerable, brokenhearted storytelling and bold evolution of sound and melodic flow. He's inspired countless artists, and more yet to come.

Beyond this scratch-the-surface assessment, Drake is in rarefied air, perhaps shared only with Taylor Swift and Beyoncé: He has amassed an enormous catalogue of enduring hits, and yet, 13 years after releasing his first album, continues to dominate the zeitgeist with new ones.

Take an artist with that kind of career and relevance and place them in a packed arena in a city that they've never played before.

That's history right there. And with an explosive crowd and an overjoyed star both soaking in the significance, Drake's first Milwaukee show was a hell of a night.

The production rose to the occasion.

Friday’s concert had been scheduled for Thursday but was delayed a day “due to the size of the production and in order to bring the entire production and the best version of the show to Milwaukee.”

As you walked into the arena, the setup seemed pretty sparse — a square stage in the center of the floor with a standard lighting rig above.

But Drake's "It's All a Blur Tour" boasts some huge set pieces.

As Drake performed on that stage, which doubled as a high-tech LED screen with some platforms lifting up from the surface, a parade of elaborate suspended figures floated around and above him: a ghostly bride with a red rose and 10-foot-long train for "Jaded"; a UFO with green tractor beam for "Started From the Bottom"; a 15-foot-tall Ghostface replica from the "Scream" movies during "Knife Play."

And during the tongue-in-cheek "Child's Play," a massive sperm swam over the stage, its tail wagging, like an unused conversation piece from Kendall Roy's ridiculous birthday party on "Succession."

And towering on one side of the arena for most of the night was a 50-foot statue of pioneering fashion designer Virgil Abloh, former artistic director for Louis Vuitton (and University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate) who died of cancer in 2021. The statue was holding a paper airplane in his right hand throughout the concert, which in a lovely touch, flew from his grip and over the crowd near the night's end.

But the tour also boasted two features that were jaw-dropping. The show began with an actor sitting on a couch, his face on the stage's big screens resembling a teenage Drake, an incredible display of deepfake and de-aging technology, his movements seamlessly flowing in real time as, in an inspired moment, the real Drake sat by his side and read from a journal, rapping lines from the opening number. (The wide-eyed teenage Drake showed up again later to watch some "Family Matters" — before changing the channel and settling for "Degrassi: The Next Generation," which starred a young Drake.)

And when "Calling My Name" and "Massive" showed up in the setlist, four laser-firing robots sprung to life, synchronized to sway and bounce to the beats, and struck poses with carefully positioned mirrors, to create intricate displays that surrounded the stage.

Complementing the massive production was an equally sprawling setlist. On stage for an hour and 45 minutes, Drake touched on a whopping 44 songs. This frequently amounted to snippets, with a few — "Wait For U" and an underutilized "One Dance" — not given the space to really elevate the crowd.

But what made the final cut was, for the most part, smartly selected and arranged, generating huge reactions despite their fleeting appearances — whether Drake was in his feelings, rapping as he read from a journal next to his teenage self, for family-honoring set opener "Look What You've Done," or spitting with the speed and force of a machine gun, with red fireworks falling over him in perfect sync, for "Energy."

And as a whole, the 44 songs made for an overwhelming retrospective that illustrated the depth and breadth of Drake's world-changing body of work — while striking omissions (including "Hotline Bling" and "Hold On, We're Going Home") indicated through absence how much more he's accomplished.

Given his catalog, the staggering production, the goodwill of an ecstatic crowd finally seeing Drake in Milwaukee for the first time, he easily could have coasted and the night still would have been a success.

But Drake gave this show his all, transforming his superstar status into a supernova.

Relying on backing vocals or crowd singalongs for just a couple of tracks, Drake went from crooning with bittersweet pathos for "Marvins Room" to dropping verses with fiery swagger for "HYFR." He was a grand conductor, splitting the arena to rap the climax-approaching verses for "God's Plan," before everyone gleefully joined together to sing, "I only love my bed and my mama I'm sorry."

He made incredible one-on-one connections throughout the night, passionately rapping the final lines to one fan for the show's climactic "Rich Flex," and serenading fans (and security guards) from the DJ station in the back for several songs, including "Controlla," "Too Good" and "Fountains." And making his entrance by walking through the crowd was an admired gesture.

But what seemed to endear these fans more than anything was the local love.

Unlike Post Malone, who finally played Milwaukee for the first time last year but never acknowledged it, Drake did — over and over and over again. He talked about flying out to Toronto to pick clothes just for this show. He expressed dismay that he'd never been to the city before. He suggested he might come back to the city when he releases his next album soon. He stressed that of all the cities on the tour, Milwaukee was the one he would not miss (a nod, perhaps, to a canceled Memphis date that was supposed to happen this weekend).

Was he just feeding the fans lines? To some extent, sure — don't hold your breath for a Drake album release party in Milwaukee. But this crowd was eating it up, and Drake's elation to finally play this city for the first time certainly seemed sincere.

And in another thoughtful gesture that suggested the energy was custom-made for Milwaukee, Drake near the night's end busted out a crowd favorite, "Connect," that he hasn't played live since 2015. Not content to end the night there, on the fly he called out to his DJ to play another one, "Teenage Fever," performed for just the third time since 2017, because, as Drake told him, "they deserve this."

"I'm definitely coming back to do some shows," Drake promised. This first Milwaukee show was definitely worth the wait — and his fans, and yours truly, can't wait to see him in town again.

21 Savage joined Drake on stage, plays own set

In a classy move, instead of letting the night's special guest 21 Savage open the show, Drake essentially opened for him, performing for 80 minutes before letting Savage command the stage for his own 20-minute set.

The crowd was so worked up from Drake's barrage of hits and astounding crowd work that Savage benefited from white-hot energy in the room that led to humongous screams and singalongs for "Red Opps," "A Lot," "Who Want Smoke??" and nine other tracks. And just as the momentum started to dip toward the tail end of his set-closer "Bank Account," Drake got back on stage; the two rappers worked different sides of the stage and fed off each other's energy for five tracks, including "On BS" and "Spin Bout U" from their blockbuster 2022 joint album "Her Loss." Savage's set placement certainly benefited from Drake, but he made the case he might be ready to headline his own arena tour soon.

3 takeaways from Drake's Milwaukee debut concert

When Drake joined 21 Savage on stage, he asked Savage if this was his first time in Milwaukee, to which Savage said he thought so. Not the case: Savage played the Rave in 2017.

When Drake made it to the DJ station, his camera crew spotted and filmed a fan who had a front-row seat right behind him, who looked like he had been partying too hard, and was resting his head on a railing. But after "Controlla," the people around him managed to get the guy to snap out of it and lift his head — and he was shocked to see Drake standing inches in front of him, giving him enough energy to get back on his feet and resume partying.

Milwaukee also got a little bit of Self-Help Philosopher Drake Friday. The rapper encouraged people in the crowd to say something nice to a stranger, and nearly everyone in the crowd fulfilled his request. "That little 10 seconds you just took to treat somebody else kindly instead of just keeping it to yourself adds to your life, I promise you," Drake said. "The key to staying alive in this short life is you’ve got to be a good person." But even when preaching the value of karma, Drake did manage to sneak in a little diss of his longtime nemesis, Kanye West. "Sometimes in your life, take 10 seconds out of your day to tell one person … 'My man, you look good, even though you've got those Yeezys on.'"

Patriots Quarterback Drake Maye is Fitting in Just Fine With Boston Sports Fans

B oston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has been a star since he was drafted No. 3 overall in 2017. Before the Celtics’ game one of the Eastern Conference finals against the Indiana Pacers, Tatum met another New England third-round pick. Drake Maye, the Patriots‘ No. 3 overall draft pick in the 2024 NFL draft, met up with Tatum on May 21 at TD Garden. The Celtics star caught up with Maye, who has been integrating himself into the Boston sports scene since the Patriots rookie minicamp took place in May.

Maye, present for the thrilling overtime victory in which Boston defeated the Indiana Pacers, had a brief conversation with Tatum outside the Celtics locker room. Beyond exchanging general pleasantries, the New England Patriots quarterback shared an interesting story with Tatum. Maye’s older brother, Luke Maye, guarded Tatum during the North Carolina product’s first start with the Tar Heels in 2017. Tatum also gifted Maye a jersey, which he wore for game one.

Technically, these two are supposed to be rivals due to the heated rivalry between their alma maters. Maye was a quarterback at North Carolina, and Tatum played hoops for their heated rival, the Duke Blue Devils. Tatum, who played one season at Duke before entering the NBA, faced off against North Carolina three times, including once in the ACC Tournament. During these matchups, Tatum held a 2-1 record against UNC, averaging 18.6 points per game. His performances in these high-stakes games showcased his talent and set the stage for his successful transition to the professional level.

Maye is Taking the Tour of Boston Sports Franchises

Fellow Patriots rookie Ja’Lynn Polk joined Drake Maye at Game 4 of the Panthers-Bruins second-round matchup at TD Garden. The quarterback and wide receiver duo embraced their new home, mingling with fans instead of opting for a suite. During the second period of the Bruins‘ 3-2 loss, Maye and Polk energized the crowd, jumping to their feet and prompting a roaring applause.

New England’s 2024 first and second-round draft picks each sported custom Bruins sweaters. Maye, set to wear his signature No. 10 on the football field, proudly displayed his name and number in black and gold. On the other hand, Polk wore his new No. 1 despite having worn No. 2 at the University of Washington. Their enthusiastic presence and integration into the local sports culture are already making them fan favorites in New England.

Maye Meets With Former Patriots Quarterbacks

Drake Maye, who grew up just outside of Charlotte, N.C., recently had the chance to meet one of his childhood idols, former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton. Newton, who was working for the NFL Network during the draft, took time to connect with Maye. The former Carolina Panthers superstar, who also played for the New England Patriots during the 2020 season, shared valuable insights with the young quarterback. He shared Newton’s comments during his introduction at Gillette Stadium.

“The first thing he said was about the fans. What a great city, great sports town, great sports area here in New England. Got the Celtics right over there and the Red Sox and the Bruins,” Maye said during his introductory press conference Friday at Gillette Stadium. “So, just a great sports city was the first thing he said. He said just to be yourself, enjoy it, embrace it.”

Maye was also included in a group of rookies who shared breakfast, during which they discussed sports and business, as highlighted in a social media post by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin. This exclusive gathering also featured Jay-Z, who offered valuable advice and insights to Maye and other NFL rookies alongside former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

“We talked about life and a little football,” Brady said, “but from the tape I’ve been watching, I think they have a great opportunity ahead. See you all on the road this year and I can’t wait to watch your progress toward greatness with tremendous determination and discipline!

This battle has been a long time coming and has taken wild twists and turns along the way, from Drake responding and trolling Kendrick ( and half the rap game ) with “Push Ups” to Dot accepting that challenge and dropping four diss tracks in one week. Jokes have been fired, shoe sizes have been questioned, and some dark allegations have been traded.

This battle has already been cemented as one of the most exciting and impactful rap beefs of all time. With plenty of songs to wade through, here’s our ranking of the best diss tracks from both Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Since Drake fired at several rappers on his diss tracks, his songs are being graded based on his specific bars for Kendrick.

10. Drake, “Taylor Made Freestyle”

Most memorable line: “Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior” (Tupac voice)

Artificial intelligence became even more entangled in the rap war than it already was when Drake used AI voice augmentation technology to make himself sound like Tupac and Snoop Dogg in the first two verses of his “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The thought behind the tactic was…different, rapping through two West Coast icons to try and bait Kendrick into responding to him.

Drake made AI Pac and Snoop sound disappointed in Dot’s silence before adding his own verse that implied Kendrick was forced to dodge Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department release date, reminding us all that he’s good at twisting internet narratives in his favor. The actual concept of using artificial intelligence in a song, on the other hand, is very wack, especially considering we’re at a moment in history where hundreds of Drake’s peers just signed a petition to protect music from the dangers of the technology. Plus the bars themselves aren’t great, and the Tupac estate threatening to sue Drake effectively shuts the whole track down.

9. Drake, “Buried Alive Interlude” Pt. 2

View this photo on Instagram

Most memorable line: “It feel like Twitter ghostwritin’ your reply”

Drake announced “Family Matters” with an Instagram post where he flips his Kendrick-assisted Take Care cut “Buried Alive Interlude” against the Compton rapper. The track itself doesn’t have an actual title and wasn’t released on streaming, but it is completely different from “Family Matters” in both sound and subject matter. In the track's first half, Drake mocks Kendrick’s flow, rapping about bringing Dot on his Club Paradise tour as an opening act back in 2012. “It feels like Twitter ghostwriting your replies,” he raps, leaning into the narrative that Kendrick’s bars on “Euphoria” had already been said by fans on social media. The track doesn’t feel like a complete thought, but it’s the perfect appetizer for “Family Matters.”

8. Drake, “The Heart Part 6”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “You haven't seen the kids in six months, the distance is wild/ Dave leavin' heart emojis underneath pics of the child”

As soon as a rapper starts explaining themself in a beef, they’re in trouble, and Drake spends the majority of “The Heart Part 6” on defense, trying to counter Kendrick’s onslaught. Dot caught Drake in a Catch-22, if he didn’t respond to the Compton rapper’s accusations that he was a child predator then he would look crazy, but if he did acknowledge them he would still…look crazy.

Unfortunately, Drake opts to do the latter, but does not explain himself well on the track. He misinterprets the Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers song “Mother I Sober” by claiming Kendrick was molested by a family member. He then uses that misinterpretation to explain why Kendrick accused Drake of being a predator. Not only is that logic backward and wrong in general, but it was a decisive misstep that makes “The Heart Part 6” one of the weakest diss tracks in this war.

7. Kendrick Lamar, “6:16 in LA”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “A hundred niggas that you got on salary/ And twenty of 'em want you as a casualty/ And one of them is actually next to you/ And two of them is practically tired of your lifestyle/ Just don't got the audacity to tell you”

What makes “6:16 in LA” so good is how layered it is. Kendrick has taken a different thematic approach to each diss track he’s dropped so far, and here he hijacks Drake’s timestamp series of songs and fills the record with the very “quintuple entendres” that the rapper was asking for on “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

From the track’s title having several potential meanings—6/16 is Tupac’s birthday, Father’s Day, when the series Euphoria premiered, and when OJ Simpson’s murder case began—to the cryptic cover art and lush Al Green sample that features guitar credits from Drake’s father’s cousin, everything about “6:16 in LA'' feels meticulously calculated. And then there’s the lyrics. Kendrick taps into Drake’s trust issues and implies that he has a leak in his camp and that some of his close friends hate him. He does all of this while rapping at a high level. “6:16 in LA” feels like a diss from forgotten times after the war took a dark turn with “Family Matters” and “Meet the Grahams,” but it still stands as an elite track.

6. Kendrick Lamar, “Meet the Grahams”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “Fuck a rap battle, he should die so all of these women can live with a purpose”

The gloves came off and the war went to a dark place when Kendrick challenged “Family Matters” with “Meet the Grahams” within an hour after the former dropped. Up until this point, it was still a “friendly fade” but “Meet the Grahams” takes things into dark waters as Dot uses each member of Drake’s immediate family to address him and accuse the rapper of having a substance abuse problem, being a sexual predator, and of abandoning an 11-year-old daughter. Drake immediately refuted these allegations and claimed he planted this information for Kendrick to use on “The Heart Part 6,” but the damage from the song had already been done.

The song has little to no replay value, and Kendrick sounds like Jigsaw as he talk-raps through all of these serious allegations. It works well as a diss track, but it also uses hypothetical victims as props and calls into question why Kendrick had been holding all of this information until now. Ultimately, “Meet the Grahams” will be remembered as the song that marked the point of no return in this war.

5. Drake, “Push Ups”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “Metro shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums, nigga”

“Push Ups” is a masterclass in multitasking, a song where he efficiently takes shots at Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, The Weeknd, and even Ja Morant with four minutes of straight bars on a beat that sounds like it could have soundtracked the Halloween franchise.

Taking on half the rap game in one song is a daunting task, but Drake makes it look easy as he dedicates a few bars to everybody, shooting back at Kendrick, Future, Rick Ross, and The Weeknd, while delivering one of the funniest one-liners in rap this year with, “Metro, shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums, nigga.” “Push Ups” surfaced in a fumbled rollout that caused everyone to question the validity of a low-quality leak that sounded like it could have been AI, but the song itself is very strong and was a great counterpunch.

4. Drake, “Family Matters”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now”

Despite being snuffed out by the shock value of “Meet the Grahams,” “Family Matters” is a good diss song because of its range in sound and the different flows Drake exhibits. In reality, it would have probably served him better to split the track into two separate songs so he could focus solely on Kendrick (ASAP Rocky probably gets the most creative disses). But Drake still manages to lob some decent jabs and heavy accusations Kendrick’s way—the main one being that the Compton rapper has been physically violent toward his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and that his creative partner Dave Free fathered one of his children. The song is well put together, and has a layered music video that features Drake crushing the same model Mini-van that was featured on the cover of good kid, m.A.A.d city. Drake still held his own yet again despite having to shoot at half the rap game.

3. Kendrick Lamar, “Euphoria”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “I even hate when you say the word ‘nigga,’ but that's just me, I guess/ Some shit just cringeworthy, it ain't even gotta be deep, I guess”

The best diss tracks pick apart opponents in unique ways that will haunt them. But they only withstand the test of time if they have one secret ingredient—pure hater energy. And Kendrick harnesses that on “Euphoria.” Not only is the track filled with easter eggs—like Dot reversing Richard Pryor’s dialogue from The Wiz when he’s being exposed as a fraud or the title being named after the sexualized high school drama Euphoria, which Drake executive produces—it also meticulously picks apart The Boy's massive persona. Kendrick takes jabs at everything from Drake’s relationship with his Blackness to various ghostwriter allegations. And “Euphoria” doesn’t rely on salacious information to get at the rapper, but leans fully into the fact that Kendrick just doesn’t like the guy. Sometimes it pays to be “the biggest hater.”

2. Future & Metro Boomin f/ Kendrick Lamar, “Like That”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “Motherfuck the Big 3, nigga/ It’s just big me”

Kendrick managed to trigger an entire rap war off his first hand, and it’s still one of his best cards drawn. With one explosive verse, Kendrick finally put an end to all of the pump-faking he and Drake had been engaging in since he last pushed the red button on “Control” more than a decade ago.

What’s most impressive about “Like That,” though, is how effective Kendrick is in so few bars. He wastes no time refuting the Big three label, shits on Drake’s affinity for Michael Jackson with a clever bar about Prince, and makes it clear that he wants all the smoke. Metro Boomin, finding a way to say “fuck you” to Drake through the production, also helps make the case for “Like That,” a song that sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks. Drake has long been praised for his ability to diss rivals on hit songs that they have to hear in the club, so you know he was seething after someone did it to him.

1. Kendrick Lamar, “Not Like Us”

drake first tour

Most memorable line: “Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A-minor”

Dot might have won this battle with this track because he beat Drake at his own game; he linked up with DJ Mustard and made a club-friendly diss track where he still took haymakers at his opponent. The song became inescapable less than 48 hours after its release, with clubs and even NBA on TNT playing the track. OVO stans like Akademiks had to yield to its electricity, and even Drake himself admitted that he would have liked dancing to the song if it didn’t have such serious allegations attached to it.

The lyrics that Kendrick has crowds screaming are very questionable (“Certified Lover Boy, Certified pedophiles”?) but “Not Like Us’” has a contagious hook and West Coast bounce that make it too good to only play once. Time will tell if this track marked the end conclusion of the rap war between the two titans, but “Not Like Us” has already proven itself to be the stone that stunned Goliath.

"I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries," says the star.

Kelly Rowland is speaking out.

Two days after appearing to get into a heated argument with a female security guard on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, the Destiny’s Child alum opened up to the Associated Press on Thursday (May 23) about the viral video.

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” Rowland told the outlet at the amfAR Cannes Gala. “I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.

“There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off,” she added pointedly. “I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers.”

In the video in question, Rowland — who was in attendance at Cannes for the premiere of Marcello Mio — poses for photographers before a group of ushers leads her off the carpet. When one of them seemingly tries to rush her along by holding an arm behind the “Motivation” singer’s back, she turns around and appears to scold the guard, holding up a finger to accent her point.

As Rowland starts to walk away, the guard talks with a pair of nearby workers, which prompts the Mea Culpa star to turn around and add another remark.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the red carpet security at Cannes is famously strict in order to prevent delays in the festival’s schedule. The annual event reportedly prohibited selfies on the red carpet in 2018 for similar reasons, and the publication adds that guests who break the rules are “often met with their phones being grabbed or security covering the camera lens.”

Watch Rowland address her viral red carpet moment below.

How Big Is Taylor Swift?

drake first tour

Taylor Swift?

As big as the Beatles? Michael Jackson? Beyoncé? We crunched the numbers.

By Joe Coscarelli Graphics and additional reporting by Courtney Cox and Fred Bierman

You might have heard: Taylor Swift cannot be stopped.

Her new album , “The Tortured Poets Department,” sold 2.6 million copies in its opening week last month, earning Swift her eighth Billboard No. 1 album since 2020.

At the Grammy Awards in February, she became the first artist to win album of the year for a fourth time, breaking a tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.

And earlier this month, Swift’s Eras Tour, the 152-date, billion-dollar stadium takeover that began last year, resumed abroad before it returns to the U.S. in October.

Taylor Swift, in a sparkly leotard, stands onstage on a riser while singing into a microphone with one arm extended in the air. On video screens behind her, the large crowd is visible.

Taylor Swift onstage at an Eras Tour show in New Jersey last year.

In 2023, according to the data tracking service Luminate, one in every 78 songs streamed in the U.S. was by Swift.

With a mix of prolific artistic output and relentless business savvy, plus cultural dominance as a celebrity, Swift, 34, has created such a swell of momentum that she is probably more popular — more omnipresent — 19 years into her professional music career than she ever has been.

That is not normal.

A crowd of excited fans stands in a parking lot outside a concert. Of the three in the foreground, one holds her phone in the air, one looks up and shouts and one closes her eyes and pumps her fist.

Swift fans in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

But just how big is Taylor Swift, in terms of the all-time pop pantheon?

The singer’s ongoing surge has inspired inevitable debates about how her success stacks up not only against her pop peers, like Beyoncé and Drake, but to the greats that came before them. Even Billy Joel said he could only compare this Swift moment to Beatlemania.

A black-and-white photo of Beatles fans screaming in a crowd, with a security officer placing a white-gloved hand on the shoulder of one screeching girl.

Enraptured Beatles fans in 1964.

It may be impossible to do an exact, one-to-one comparison between Swift’s career and that of the Beatles — or Madonna, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John or your icon of choice. Besides music being personal and subjective, the nature of success (and how it is calculated) has changed drastically over time. Much of a star’s grip on the zeitgeist is also intangible — a vibe in the air, their influence moving subtly but undeniably through culture.

But the absence of a truly scientific comparison has never stopped the amusement that comes from the eternal sports and pop culture debates of our time: Jordan vs. LeBron (or Kareem, or Kobe). Brady vs. Montana (or Marino, or Mahomes). “Star Wars” vs. “Star Trek” (or Harry Potter, or the Marvel Universe).

Even without definitive conclusions, it’s impossible for certain loyalists, haters and obsessives not to wonder how giants match up using whatever evidence might be available.

So with Swift’s career still peaking late into its second decade, we ran the numbers and analyzed the data, taking stock of what she has accomplished so far — and when — alongside some of the heaviest hitters in each category.

Taylor vs. the Beatles Hit Singles

A page from Billboard magazine listing the “Hot 100” hits in the week ending April 4, 1964.

First, there are the Beatles, who for most music fans still represent the gold standard of pop mania in modern times.

drake first tour

When it comes to Billboard No. 1 singles …

… they set the benchmark.

From the early 1960s, when pop music usually came in the form of two-sided vinyl singles, until the Fab Four broke up in 1970, the band released 64 songs that landed on Billboard’s all-genre chart, known as the Hot 100.

In that time, the Beatles helped to usher in the rock ’n’ roll revolution — and the album age — by releasing more than a dozen LPs.

But many of the records they set for hit singles still stand today.

Back Together’ (2012)

Let’s look at how Swift’s Top 10 hits compare to the Beatles’ over the course of their careers, starting with the year each of them released their first original single in the U.S.

What is incredible to remember is that almost all of the Beatles’ success — and their entire artistic output — happened very quickly.

Of the band’s 35 total Top 10 hits, 32 of them arrived in just eight years. (Three more Top 10s came after the band split.)

The Beatles came in hot, then they were gone — a risk for groups, with their various egos and complications, that Swift will never have to face.

Her career, on the other hand, has been a much slower burn, as she grew from country music ingénue to full-bore pop star.

Swift’s first Top 10 song (“Change”) didn’t hit until around her second album, “Fearless,” in 2008.

When we focus on No. 1s, the Beatles really dominate, with more chart-toppers than any other artist, a record they’ve held since 1965.

Out of the Beatles’ 20 No. 1s, the majority also came quickly, with 11 songs , including “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Love Me Do” and “Yesterday,” topping the chart in 1964 and 1965, their earliest years as a fresh-faced phenomenon.

Swift’s first chart-topper, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” in 2012, needed a more dramatic twist.

Seven years into her career, she left behind her Nashville sound and collaborated with the pop guru Max Martin, who trails only John Lennon and Paul McCartney with 25 career No. 1s as a songwriter.

The bulk of Swift’s singles success has come even later, with seven of her 12 total No. 1s, including “Fortnight,” “Cruel Summer” and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version),” arriving in the last five years , as her career entered its teens.

By that point in their musical lives, the individual Beatles were well into their various solo endeavors, with McCartney experimenting with new wave and George Harrison writing songs about race cars .

A black-and-white photo of a race-car driver, George Harrison of the Beatles and a race-car advisor standing in conversation.

But as with any comparison across eras, there must be footnotes and asterisks. When we look at Top 10s from the 1960s, we’re only counting an artist’s actual “singles” — songs released for purchase outside of a full album.

After 1998, the rules began changing to include any song on the radio, regardless of how it was released, and eventually counting digital downloads and streams. By today’s rules, the Beatles would have even more hits than Billboard’s official count.

A young person in a sun visor stares at an old fashioned computer monitor with the a screen up reading "Napster."

Swift, whose new album features 31 songs, each of which hit the Hot 100, has dominated with these new metrics: In 2022, she became the first artist to occupy the entire Top 10 on the Hot 100 at once following the release of “Midnights.”

She repeated and expanded upon that feat last month with songs from “The Tortured Poets Department,” which filled the top 14 spots on the singles chart.

This might measure a different kind of fervor than the musical ubiquity of the Beatles or others who ruled the radio later — a depth of obsession for Swift’s fans who stream her music billions of times and purchase it in multiple formats.

A screenshot of the Billboard Hot 100 list from the week of May 4, 2024. Taylor Swift occupies all top ten spots.

The length of Swift’s career has allowed her into the Beatles’ vaunted ballpark by giving her the chance to evolve her sound, grow her loyal audience and take full advantage of technological advances.

Yet as wild as it is for the Beatles to have accomplished so much in so little time, Swift’s longevity might be considered equally impressive in pop music, which often overvalues the new and — especially among female artists — the young.

Taylor vs. Michael Jackson Album Sales

A 1984-era photo of Michael Jackson in a sparkly black jacket, white shirt and dark pants, dancing onstage with a backup singer visible behind him.

Despite Swift’s streaming success — and ability to move even vinyl records — the high bar can only be Michael Jackson when it comes to album sales.

Like the Beatles, Jackson reached heights pop had never seen, changing the very nature of stardom, for better and worse, by kicking off the MTV video age and ruling popular culture amid tabloid mayhem.

Unlike the Beatles’, Jackson’s career was relatively long, from his time as a child star in the Jackson 5 until his death in 2009 at 50.

‘1989

(Taylor’s Version)’

But the meat of Jackson’s solo career lasted from 1972 through 2001, during which he put out 10 albums and followed a fairly typical arc for a pop career …

… the release of starter albums like “Got to Be There” and “Ben” in the early 1970s, then a big breakthrough — “Off the Wall” in 1979 — and a peak, before Jackson slowed down somewhat, at least commercially.

That peak just happened to be “Thriller” — arguably the peak of all pop peaks — which came out in 1982, when Jackson was 24.

For albums, going platinum — or selling one million copies — is the go-to stat. Let’s look at Jackson’s platinum albums vs. Swift’s , starting with the beginning of their careers as solo artists.

In the four-plus decades since “Thriller” was released, it has been certified 34 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it one of the most successful albums of all time.

Swift’s biggest albums so far are “Fearless,” which is officially 10 times platinum, and “1989,” at nine times platinum.

However, Swift’s platinum certifications are not totally up to date and do not yet count the sales of her redone “Taylor’s Version” releases, which have not been officially tallied by the R.I.A.A.

(It’s also worth noting that an album “sale” now means something different: a set amount of song streams or downloads is considered the equivalent of one album sold.)

Using the more recent sales data available for Swift’s albums, which can help us estimate where her R.I.A.A. certifications will be when they’re updated …

… she starts to approach — and even pass — Jackson’s monster platinum totals, giving us a better idea of how Swift will stack up to Jackson long term. Remember, Swift’s albums have about 30 years less of collective sales when compared to “Thriller” — and they’re still being actively promoted.

Swift’s “1989” — also released when she was 24 — may be the closest thing she has to Jackson’s biggest blockbuster …

… and she’s been strategic enough to release it twice, elongating what could be considered her career peak by stretching it across two distinct eras nearly a decade apart.

Part of Swift’s genius as she’s run up the stats these last few years — releasing nearly 200 songs since the pandemic — is that the music that first made her a star in the mid-to-late 2000s is exploding again alongside her latest hits, giving new fans a fresh entry point.

Already, Swift has released more solo albums than Jackson ever did, and with her productivity — including those two different versions of four of her albums so far — she can approach the King of Pop.

In all, Jackson’s 10 solo albums have been certified 72 times platinum. Swift’s 11 original albums have been certified 50 times platinum. But her album sales tell us that number, including Taylor’s Versions, is likely to be closer to 90. And she is very much still going, with “The Tortured Poets Department” already topping three million in about a month.

Taylor vs. Britney Spears A Pop-Star Arc

Britney Spears onstage with backup dancers visible behind her, wearing a crop top that's half pink and half silver, with silver pants.

Swift’s extended peak becomes even more of a standout when compared to a more typical pop trajectory — even one with towering highs.

Like Swift, Britney Spears released her debut single at age 16 and came to absolutely dominate the cultural conversation (sometimes in ways that discounted her music in favor of her love life).

Commercially huge in its moment, Spears’s music career was also relatively short-lived, which tends to be the case more often than not, especially for singers who are known as performers and celebrities more than quote-unquote serious artists.

Swift, unlike Spears, has been firm in branding herself as a songwriter from the beginning, helping stave off some sexist criticism of her music as frivolous.

BRITNEY SPEARS

‘... Baby One More Time’

For reasons that became more complicated as time went on, Spears’s career sloped downward commercially basically from the moment it began, if you’re looking at album sales .

“ ... Baby One More Time ,” Spears’s 1999 debut, sold impressively. It’s certified platinum more times than, say, “Abbey Road” ...

… but it’s not quite “ 1989 ” even in raw numbers, leaving aside any questions of authorship, artistic merit and staying power.

The diminishing returns of Spears’s subsequent releases represent a sadly common path for the kind of pop singers that audiences can treat as disposable, with a new model always on the horizon.

Taylor vs. Madonna Era After Era

Madonna in 1990, with curly blond hair, red lipstick, and her famous Gaultier corset cone bra, singing into a hands-free mic headset.

Madonna’s ability to reinvent — to persist as a woman in pop — is the reason we talk about artist “eras” to begin with. Another path-breaking solo pop singer with a huge peak, a long run of domination, a savvy command of marketing and unexpected longevity, Madonna has had a career that is 43 years long and counting.

From her breakthrough second album, “Like a Virgin,” released in 1984, when she was 26, through “Bedtime Stories” in 1994, Madonna was inescapable, pushing the boundaries of visual and sonic reinvention that are now considered prerequisites for top acts.

Let’s look at Madonna’s Top 10 Billboard hits compared to Swift’s, which shows how consistent both artists have been over extended periods of time — but also when in their careers each was most in the mix.

Madonna scored No. 1 hits across three decades, beginning with the title track from “Like a Virgin” in 1984.

In her first 10 years dominating the charts , Madonna had 10 No. 1s, ruling radio, MTV and nightclubs. She also appeared in blockbuster movies like “Dick Tracy” and “Evita,” expanding her cultural omnipresence.

Madonna’s peak was fueled in part by the kind of polarizing, shock-value controversy — think “Like a Virgin,” “Like a Prayer” or the “Sex” book from 1992 — that Swift has studiously avoided. (Although she, too, has had her share of extra-musical headlines, like the Kanye West V.M.A.s moment in 2009.)

But it was Madonna’s multifaceted fame as a triple threat that helped lead to many of her No. 1 hits, including “ Vogue ” (from “I’m Breathless,” the “Dick Tracy” soundtrack album) and …

… “ This Used to Be My Playground ” (the theme from “A League of Their Own”).

Swift has also dipped a toe into Hollywood, although her roles in “Valentine’s Day,” “Cats” and David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam” are less fondly remembered (and have resulted in no hit songs).

The most recent of Madonna’s 12 No. 1 hits (“ Music ,” from 2000) came 19 years into her career — where Swift is now — at the age of 42.

Madonna’s eight-year comeback period , from “Ray of Light” in 1998 to “Confessions on a Dance Floor” in 2005, resulted in six Top 10 hits. She has 38 overall (with none since 2012), compared to Swift’s 59 so far.

Taylor vs. the Veterans Touring and Awards

In a black and white photograph, Elton John wears large glasses and sings while seated at a microphone.

Alongside a pop survivor like Madonna, now 65, acts like Elton John, 77, and Bruce Springsteen, 74, are an interesting comparison point for Swift because of their productivity, longevity and critical acclaim — all of which has paid off on the road.

(See also: Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, who are not included here, but would be interesting points of comparison using slightly different metrics.)

While Madonna has slipped on the charts — none of her most recent four albums has gone platinum — she remains a major live draw, a standard give-and-take for a top-tier legacy act.

In a black-and-white photograph, Bruce Springsteen plays guitar against a large American flag backdrop. He is wearing a sleeveless plaid button down and denim pants.

John and Springsteen, both veterans about 50 years into their careers, also had periods of commercial dominance beginning in the 1970s with albums like “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” (released when John was 26, that pop-star sweet spot) and “Born to Run” (from when Springsteen was 25).

But as they settled into pop-star middle age, plateauing commercially, they too have persisted with uber-successful, long-running tours fueled by fan allegiance and critical acclaim.

APPROXIMATE GROSS PER SHOW

drake first tour

Let’s look at the total grosses for the best-selling tours by John and Springsteen, which put them in the company of more commercially dominant artists like Swift, Madonna and Jackson.

John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, a late-career greatest hits show named for his biggest album, made nearly $1 billion in part because it lasted for six years and more than 300 dates.

Madonna’s best-selling tour was Sticky & Sweet , from 2008 and 2009. (Like Swift’s Eras Tour, Madonna’s recent Celebration Tour highlighted all the periods of her four-decade career, although it was less profitable and played arenas rather than stadiums.)

If you look at how much these major tours made per show, the list changes.

This is where Swift shines, taking in more than $17 million per concert. By the time it’s over, the Eras Tour could bring in over $2 billion in ticket sales.

One notable aspect of Swift’s career so far is that it seems to bridge the gap between two kinds of artists, both of which can become legacy acts with strong enough catalogs and fan bases: the sustained, hit-making entertainers who may be overlooked, at least at first, as musicians, and the serious singer-songwriters who tend to be more critically lauded.

The Grammy Awards, love them or hate them, are voted on by other musicians and provide a proxy stat for prestige and overall acclaim in the moment.

NOMINATIONS

drake first tour

TOP CATEGORY

drake first tour

Let’s look at Grammy nominations among the crop of top artists we’re considering.

While Swift has already outpaced Jackson and Springsteen, it’s Beyoncé — another artist who has changed the way we talk about pop stars — who has the most nominations ever.

Looking at Grammy wins …

… we see artists like John and Drake, another modern juggernaut, drop on this list, having converted fewer of their nominations to victories compared with, say, Jackson and Springsteen.

Springsteen has won 20 Grammys across the decades, from his first for “Dancing in the Dark” in 1985 to his most recent, in 2010, for “Working on a Dream.”

Beyoncé is the winningest musician ever at the Grammys, where she has been awarded 32 times, topping the conductor Georg Solti (31) and the producer Quincy Jones (28), who was behind Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Yet Beyoncé has still never taken album of the year — where Swift has four trophies — and has won only once in the top categories , which include record, song and album of the year, plus best new artist.

It's been more than a decade since Beyoncé earned a top-tier Grammy, when “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” was awarded song of the year.

Madonna didn’t win her first Grammy until 1992 (for best music video!) and only has scattered victories since, indicating she may have been viewed by her industry peers as more of a commercial force than a musician’s musician.

It is worth pointing out that the Beatles won just four Grammys while active, including two in the big four categories, out of 20 nominations, demonstrating how hard it is to quantify musical quality and how esteem tends to shift over time. (Three more nominations and wins came after they broke up.)

The band took the top prize just once — for “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” the first rock album to win, in 1968 — in part because the Grammys, until the late 1960s, were quite conservative, often recognizing old-school, traditional pop acts like Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. (“Help!” and “Revolver” both lost to Sinatra.)

Looking at stats like that, you could argue that the most popular musicians are taken more seriously as artists now than ever before, in no small part because of acts like the Beatles, Jackson and Madonna.

Taylor vs. Beyoncé and Drake Modern Heavyweights

Beyonce, dressed in all red and sunglasses, stands on stage with backup dancers in similar red outfits. There is smoke in the background and being emitted from the stage floor.

While Swift’s overall pound-for-pound standing in each of the categories we’ve looked at puts her in rare historical company, it is notable that two of her most immediate contemporaries — Beyoncé, 42, and Drake, 37 — are also legitimate challengers across the board.

All three artists have maneuvered the industry transition between CDs, downloads and streaming to become defining modern superstars while also maximizing those intangibles like cultural reach and celebrity domination.

Beyoncé, now 23 years into a solo career after her time with the group Destiny’s Child, stands with Swift when it comes to versatility and longevity, plus sustained commercial dominance.

‘I Am ...

Sasha Fierce’

‘The Tortured

Poets Department’

‘Cowboy

Let’s look at their album sales as solo artists side by side.

Beyoncé’s commercial peak (so far) came with “ I Am… Sasha Fierce ,” released in 2008, when she was 27. That album has sold more than nine million copies.

Since then , while selling fewer records, she has focused on different pillars of legacy, pioneering the visual album format (“Beyoncé,” “Lemonade”), experimenting with genre (“Renaissance,” “Cowboy Carter”) and pushing the limits of an extravagant live spectacle (Coachella, the Renaissance World Tour).

Both Beyoncé and Swift have had big-selling No. 1 albums this year , during fresh periods of productivity.

Like Madonna and Swift, Beyoncé has continued to stretch the limits of what a woman’s pop career can hold, landing two chart-topping singles in her 40s (with “Break My Soul,” in 2022, and again earlier this year, with the country-influenced “Texas Hold ’Em”).

She has also performed twice at the Super Bowl — something Swift has yet to do — a stage where acts like Madonna, Jackson and Springsteen have solidified their unquantifiable grasp on culture.

A video board showing Drake rapping into a microphone looms over a round stage where the rapper performs.

And then there is Drake, a relentless hitmaker. Like Swift, Drake has optimized his output to take advantage of the way streaming has reshaped the industry and its accolades to set new records, including 328 total entries on the Hot 100.

Swift, with 232, is the only other artist with at least 200.

drake first tour

Featured Artist

Drake has 78 Top 10 hits so far in his career …

… and 13 No. 1s stemming from a variety of projects: official albums, less official mixtapes, streaming-only “playlists,” one-off singles, collaborative albums and more.

As a rapper and frequent guest artist, Drake, unlike Swift, has appeared on many hits by others …

… like his first No. 1, on Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” in 2010, accounting for a wide reach beyond his own releases.

Yet somehow Drake and Swift have never released a song together, despite sharing a certain canniness and expressing mutual appreciation for one another.

Even in his recent battle with Kendrick Lamar, Drake made clear that he sees Swift as his only real contemporary competition. (He has also rapped about having “more slaps than the Beatles” and frequently invokes Jackson’s success as a touchstone.)

Drake, Beyoncé and Swift all have this modern characteristic in common: They’re each actively playing for legacy, one eye on history and another on the record books. Ambitious and autonomous, they’re proudly writing their résumés in real time, juicing Billboard numbers and even gunning for accolades.

Taylor Swift appears onstage wearing a red, sparkled unitard and flexing one arm powerfully.

As a shrewd student of music and fame, Swift may know that she will never achieve the exact kind of domination that the Beatles, Jackson and Madonna had at the height of global monoculture, when everyone might pay attention to the same thing. But she’s certainly trying, taking bits and pieces from each’s career and making sure to maximize her work and reach in all the ways that weren’t available then.

She cares how she’s perceived and how she’ll be remembered when the noise fades and all that’s left are the songs — and the stats.

So far, it’s working.

Mural of Kendrick Lamar and Drake Unveiled In Compton

The epic rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has been immortalized in Compton, California, K Dot’s hometown.

On Monday (May 20), the artwork was captured on Instagram and it shows a bloody Drake wearing a yellow tracksuit with “BBL Drizzy” on the front. “Not Like Us,” Kendrick’s fiery diss track title, is written alongside it.

The mural also displays Lamar as Kung-Fu Kenny donning red Nike Cortez kicks, a Gi, and a belt.

The rap battle between K-Dot and the 6 God has been one for the ages where several diss tracks were released in close succession from each rapper. The war of words which included many subliminal disses for nearly a decade, got serious when Kendrick launched a lyrical missile toward Drake and J. Cole with a guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s   “Like That.”

The Sound Behind the Battle: Get to Know the Producers Laying Tracks For Kendrick and Drake’s War of Words

Drake responded with “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle”— “Taylor Made” was removed from all streaming platforms after a cease-and-desist letter was issued by Tupac Shakur estate for using AI technology to mimic the late rapper’s voice.

Kendrick returned the favor with “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.”

After Drake released “Family Matters”, Kendrick dropped “Meet the Grahams” less than an hour later. The next day, he dropped “Not Like Us” which became a viral sensation and landed in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 .

The last track from battle was Drake’s “The Heart Part 6.”

Although no new songs have been released from Kendrick or Drake, time will only tell if the beef is over.

Tom Brady meets Patriots rookie Drake Maye, shares advice to him and other members of 2024 class

The torch has officially been passed.

NFL: New England Patriots-Rookie Minicamp

It appears that the torch has been passed from Tom Brady to Drake Maye . Brady, a future Hall of Fame quarterback who led the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins, recently met New England's new quarterback and several other members of this year's rookie class during a meet up hosted by Fanatics.

Brady shared "invaluable advice and knowledge" to the rookies, according to Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin.

Tom 🤝 Drake. 📸: @michaelrubin pic.twitter.com/XN9PXQP5Bs — New England Patriots (@Patriots) May 19, 2024

"I'll always cherish the opportunity to talk to these young men who are about to start a monumental chapter of their lives," Brady said of the experience on Instagram . "I would never be in the place I am today without the incredible people and mentors that came into my life at the right time and at the right place. There are too many to mention but I have been blessed in so many ways. I feel we should always use our experiences to help others and 'pay it forward' to see the next generation grow as well. So they can live their dreams and maximize their potential.

"We talked about life and a little football 😉, but from the tape I've been watching I think they have a great opportunity ahead. See you all on the road this year and I can't wait to watch your progress toward greatness with tremendous determination and discipline!"

Maye isn't Brady's successor, per se. Maye is actually succeeding Mac Jones , who was supposed to be Brady's long-term successor. But Jones failed to live up to pre-draft expectations, and he was ultimately dealt to Jacksonville earlier this offseason.

To his credit, Maye doesn't appear to be carrying the burden of playing Brady's position for Brady's old team. If anything, Maye is looking to create his own legacy with the Patriots and the NFL .

"Tom Brady's the G.O.A.T.," Maye said shortly after being drafted . "It's easy to say that. He's the best that ever played this game. I'm not going to be Tom Brady. So, I'm just going to try to be Drake Maye, and from there, I'm just trying to learn from him, hopefully get to know him a little bit. Other than that, just try to soak it up, be a sponge and try to learn all I can from him. He's the man of that town."

‘This Happened to Me’: Drake Bell Says Son Inspired Him to Talk About Sexual Abuse

  • By Kalia Richardson

Drake & Josh star Drake Bell said in a new interview that his three-year-old son helped inspire him to vocalize the alleged sexual abuse he suffered as a child star. Bell has made headlines in recent months as the principal subject of the five-part docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, where Nickelodeon crew members, child actors, and parents detail a kids network rife with misconduct, discrimination, and abuse. In an interview that aired on Today Monday, he decided to come forward once his mental health took a dive.

“I had just been going through so much and things were spiraling out of control personally and mentally,” Bell said. “And I finally found myself saying, ‘There’s two roads you can take here.’ I’d just had a son. And what’s the story that he’s going to get? Or is somebody else going to tell him my story, or am I going to be around to tell him and share my story? So I knew something had to change.”

“As he grows, he’s going to hear things, and people are going to have opinions,” Bell said. “But my hope is that he’ll be able to say, ‘Yeah, my dad did go through that. Yeah, that did happen to my dad. Yeah, my dad did do that. But the man I’ve known my whole life and the man that I know today is a hero to me. And the fact that he’s been able to get through those things has helped me be able to face the world and not let it tear me down.’”
