British hard rock pioneers Deep Purple hold the distinction of being named "the globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records, with no signs of quieting down nearly half a century after their debut. Widely acknowledged as one of the hardest touring bands in rock and roll, Deep Purple continue to bring an impressive wall of sound to their live shows, powering through epic anthems like "Smoke on the Water" and "Black Night" with the same vigor and energy that carried them to superstardom in the early '70s. Riding high on the 2013 release of their 19th studio album Now What, the band will live up to their reputation with another high-octane tour in 2014. Formed in the late '60s as a supergroup comprised of several notable British musicians, Deep Purple made their album debut in 1968 with Shades of Deep Purple. The album was a hit in the US thanks to a popular cover of Joe South's "Hush," resulting in a gig supporting Cream on their farewell tour. Follow-up album The Book of Taliesyn was equally well-received, but it wasn't until a lineup change in the early '70s that the band achieved significant breakthrough success, topping charts around the world with Fireball (1971) and Machine Head (1972). Machine Head would prove especially significant, going on to become the band's top-selling album and the vessel for hard rock classic "Smoke on the Water," one of the most widely taught and covered guitar songs in history. Over the course of 19 studio albums and more than 30 live albums, the band has remained an indomitable touring force, continuing to thrill fans with their electrifying performances on tour.

My wife and I saw Deep Purple and The Marshall Tucker Band at Mahaffey Theater and had a great time. The venue is awesome, we’ll definitely be back. The bands sounded great we just wished Marshal Tucker would have played a little longer. Both bands have great musicians and there was a huge variety of instruments being played. Don Airey, the keyboardist from Deep Purple, put on a standout performance. We loved the show!

Deep Purple is Amazing!

What a great show by this timeless act! After all these years, Deep Purple brings the same energy to every show, this one being no exception.

Where did Marshall Tucker come from??? LOL

Got a funny story for you ... I live almost two hours from St. Pete. So my friend and I left early in the afternoon so we could eat dinner before the concert. As a result, I never saw the last email you sent out. The concert began, and the first song played was "Can't You See?" I leaned over and whispered to my friend, "It's awfully odd that Deep Purple would start their concert with a Marshall Tucker song." A few minutes later, I added how well the flutist replicated the flute solo. Yes, that's right. We had no idea Marshall Tucker was opening for Deep Purple. It was not mentioned when I bought the tickets, but it was included in that final email you sent. Unfortunately, I did not have time to open that email. However, WHAT A GREAT SURPRISE! I love Marshall Tucker way more than I like Deep Purple. The staff was wonderful - very accommodating, and the crowd knew how to have a good time without annoying other concert goers. Everyone was extremely friendly toward each other, VERY KIND. !

Surprisingly Good Concert

I was on the fence about buying tickets to this concert since I could remember only two or three Deep Purple songs, and the group was never on my list of favorites. But, my wife wanted to go because her father had a Deep Purple 8-track tape that she enjoyed listening to as a teen. Turns out I recognized more songs than I thought I would. More importantly though, all the musicians were incredibly talented. I had never thought of Deep Purple music as Progressive Rock, but oh, did I have that wrong! In particular, I was enthralled with lead guitarist, Simon McBride. He was just incredible and an unexpected bonus to an enjoyable evening.

Great show by Great band

This is the first Deep Purple show I attended after Covid. I regret I did not see them last year cause that would be the last chance to see Steve with the band. What can I say, the 2023 show was great. Yan G. and Roger and Yan P. and Don and Simon performed way above my expectations (and trust me they are high) My special thanks to Yan Gillan and Simon McBride.

Absolutely great.

The venue was perfect. Not too big. I was amazed at how good Deep Purple is even after a break on seeing them since mid 70s. I wss so pleasantly suprised. If you ever liked this bands music - go for it if you have a chance to see them!

Amazing Level Of Musicianship

Perfectly mic’ed, mixed, lit, and performed. Two wonderful hrs of Purple. Highlights include 4 cuts from Machine Head lp (Pictures From Home, Lazy, Space Truckin’, and SOTW. Encore with Hush, and Black Night. Lord’s replacement keyboardist is a veteran virtuoso. Blackmore’s replacement shreds honorably. Would see again.

The Greatest Band of All Time Does it Again

I first learned about Deep Purple in 1982, long after they had broken up in 1976. The burst onto the rock scene as more of a progressive, psychedelic band in 1968, but after replacing vocalist Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, respectively, they formed, along with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, organist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice, the incredible "Mark II" lineup, which I continue to declare the greatest rock band of all time. By 1973, Gillan and Glover had departed, replaced by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, respectively, and in 1975 Blackmore left to form Rainbow, replaced by Tommy Bolin, who's untimely death a year later marked the end of Deep Purple - or so it seemed... In 1984, the Mark II lineup reunited, and I got to see them live, twice. Those remain the best two concerts I've ever attended. Since then, I've seen them close to 20 times, and though Gillan, Glover, and Paice remain in the lineup, Don Airey is now on keyboards, and Simon McBride took over on guitar last year from Steve Morse, who had been in the band just about since the time Blackmore left, again, in 1993. The Deep Purple of 2023 is not the same band. Gillan no longer delivers melodic screams with the power and finesse no one has ever equaled. In fact, he barely screams at all. Thus, songs like Highway Star and Space Truckin' are somewhat different, and they've long stopped playing Child in Time. Instead, Gillan now flaunts a wonderful lower register, putting great emotion into classics like "When a Blind Man Cries" and "Pictures of Home." Glover and Paice remain elite in their respective roles. Airey is the only keyboardist who could've stepped in for the legendary Lord, and Simon McBride has not only given the band new energy, but he's got Blackmoresque qualities that Morse - a fine guitarist in his own right - never did. They're not merely "good for a bunch of 70-somethings," nor is it all nostalgia. Concert after concert, I've heard people who've seen them play for the first time exclaim: "this band is REALLY good!" And so they were, in St. Petersburg on February 20.

Still Rock n after all these years

Sat in a private Box for the show . I really liked the new Marshall tucker . Thought Simon was the best guitarist since Ritchie Blackmore . All in all a good show .

Finally able to see living legends!! I took my wife & several family members that are not rock & rollers to the concert. They were all very impressed with both bands & had a great time. Rock On Deep Purple!!

ENUFF Z’NUFF Enuff Z’nuff is a living, breathing example of what a rock/ pop group should be. The band was formed in 1984 in Blue Island, Illinois. Its first release, “Fingers On It,” gave the band some initial recognition when the track was featured in the 1986 cult movie Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

Still a major force after 20+ albums, Enuff Z’nuff still has a legion of loyal fans and has earned respect and acclaim of its peers and contemporaries. With the solid foundation of longtime guitarist, Tory Stoffregan, Chicago native: Daniel Benjamin Hill on drums, and Jason Camino on stage left guitar, the band continues to tour and record relentlessly.

BAD MARRIAGE Bad Marriage is not just another band out of Boston. They come out of the gutter swinging with a thunderous rock n roll swagger that would make the ‘Bad Boys of Boston’ smile. Indulging their mutual thirst for tone and overdriven guitars, Bad Marriage pays homage to the British blues-hard rock of the past while etching their own signature style and sound.

Bad Marriage has toured nationally with Tesla and Buckcherry. They have had the honor of opening for Extreme, Stephen Pearcy, L.A. Guns, Geoff Tate, Last in Line, Scott Weiland, and many more. As a result of the band’s success, they were welcomed to play on the 2022 Monsters of Rock cruise and 2022’s Monsters on the Mountain where they shared the stage with legends such as Alice Cooper, Quiet Riot, Kix, Night Ranger, and Tom Keifer.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Deep Purple lead singer Ian Gillan gives his all onstage.

In 1972, Deep Purple released the iconic “Smoke On The Water.”

Now, 52 years (!) later, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will celebrate their mega-hit on their ‘1 More Time Tour’ with fellow Rock Hall inductees Yes all summer long.

Along the way, Ian Gillan and co. are scheduled to make five New York and New Jersey stops.

First, the heavy hitmakers drop into Camden, NJ’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on Friday, Aug. 30.

After that, the London natives swoop into Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Aug. 31, Wantagh, NY’s Jones Beach Theater on Sept. 1, and Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Sept. 4.

Deep Purple closes their NY run at Bethel’s Bethel Woods Center For The Arts on Sept. 6.

For fans that can’t wait to rock out to “Hush,” “Highway Star,” “Space Truckin'” — and of course “Smoke On The Water” — tickets for all North American concerts can be picked up as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 12, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Deep Purple tickets 2024

A complete calendar including all North American tour dates, venues, and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Deep Purple set list

The band closed the North American leg of their 2023 tour in Orlando on Feb. 21.

According to Set List FM , here’s what Deep Purple performed — including guitar, keyboard and bass solos — that evening:

01.) “Highway Star” 02.) “Pictures of Home” 03.) “No Need to Shout” 04.) “Nothing at All” 05.) “Guitar Solo” 06.) “Uncommon Man” 07.) “Lazy” 08.) “When a Blind Man Cries” 09.) “Anya” 10.) “Keyboard Solo” 11.) “Perfect Strangers” 12.) “Space Truckin'” 13.) “Smoke on the Water” Encore

14.) “Hush” (Joe South cover) 15.) “Bass Solo” 16.) “Black Night”

Deep Purple new music

Being together for 56 years doesn’t mean Deep Purple doesn’t have more to give to the world.

In 2022, the band reached deep into their archives and dug out “ Extras: The Infinite B Sides and Bonus Songs , ”  which is a must for any Purple superfan.

However, what we found most interesting was the band’s latest record of original music, 2021’s bluesy, New Orleans-y  “Turning To Crime.”

Featuring epic rock (“7 and 7 Is”) as well as lively party startin’ tunes (“Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu”) and covers from B.B. King (“Let the Good Times Roll”) and Cream (“White Room”), the album is certainly a departure from the hard rockers’ heavy fare they’re famous for.

Still, for our money, the best track on the record is the Southern-fried rock and roll number “Oh Well.”

We’ve been listening to it on repeat all day.

You can hear the jubilant  “Turning To Crime” album in its entirety here .

Deep Purple band members

After over 50 years together — they formed in 1968 — the core of Deep Purple remains the same.

Should you attend a show, here’s who you’ll likely see take the stage:

Ian Gillan lead vocals, harmonica, percussion (1969–1973, 1984–1989, 1992–present) Roger Glover bass, keyboards, occasional backing vocals (1969–1973, 1984–present) Ian Paice drums (1968–1976, 1984–present) Don Airey keyboards (2002–present) Simon McBride guitars, backing vocals (2022–present)

This tour is a twofer.

Joining Deep Purple on the road are fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Yes.

The long-running prog band is known for their hits like “Owner of A Lonely Heart,” “Roundabout,” “I’ve Seen All Good People” and many, many more.

If you want to dive into their deep catalog, you can find all of Yes’ music here .

GLENN HUGHES Announces Early 2024 'Classic Deep Purple Live' USA Tour

Glenn Hughes , the former bassist, and singer of DEEP PURPLE , known to millions as the "Voice Of Rock", Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, and the frontman for rock super group BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION , has announced that he will be performing DEEP PURPLE -only material with his "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" nationwide USA tour beginning in February 2024. Support on the trek will come from ENUFF Z'NUFF and BAD MARRIAGE .

The tour promises to be a dynamic, turn-back-the-clocks, two-hour live extravaganza homage to his tenure in MKIII and MKIV incarnations of DEEP PURPLE — one of music history’s most seminal and influential rock and roll groups.

Glenn comments: "2024 will be the year that I concentrate on North America and I'm announcing my headline tour for February. Let's turn up the [heat] on this winter run. Can't wait to be with you".

Tour dates:

Feb. 02 - Whisky A Go Go - W. Hollywood, CA Feb. 03 - Coach House - San Juan Capistrano, CA Feb. 05 - Wild Goose - Denver, CO Feb. 07 - Widley Theater - Edwardsville, IL (On Sale Soon) Feb. 09 - Token Lounge - Westland, MI Feb. 10 - Arcada Theater - St. Charles, IL Feb. 13 - Hobart Art Theater - Hobart, IN Feb. 14 - Blue Note - Harrison, OH Feb. 16 - Tupelo Music Hall - Derry, NH Feb. 17 - Penns Peak - Jim Thorpe, PA Feb. 19 - Sellersville Theater - Sellersville, PA Feb. 21 - Victory North - Savannah, GA Feb. 23 - Culture Room - W. Palm Beach, FL Feb. 24 - Occ Roadhouse - Clearwater, FL Feb. 27 - The Ranch - Ft. Myers, FL Mar. 02 - Mar. 07 - Monsters Of Rock Cruise - Miami, FL Apr. 05 - Apr. 10 - On The Blue Cruise - Miami, FL

Glenn kicked off his summer 2023 U.S. tour on August 16 at The Landis in Vineland, New Jersey. Two days later, he teamed up with legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen for a U.S. co-headlining run. On that tour, Glenn performed DEEP PURPLE 's legendary rock album "Burn" and also played DEEP PURPLE MKIII and MKIV songs.

Glenn 's band features Søren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums) and Bob Fridzema (keyboards).

Hughes spent key years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of DEEP PURPLE , appearing on the classic albums "Burn" , "Stormbringer" and "Come Taste the Band" . More recently, he played various hits and deep cuts from the DEEP PURPLE catalog, including "Burn" , "Stormbringer" , "Sail Away" and "Smoke On The Water" , as part of his "Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live" tour, which was launched in 2017.

In late 2020, Hughes told Eonmusic that DEEP PURPLE 's 2016 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame , where he was honored along with other former and current members of the band, "was a little difficult, because of, let's call it personality problems. It was David [ Coverdale , former DEEP PURPLE singer] and I holding hands, and the other guys, unfortunately," he said. "We just don't get along with the other guys at all. So, we kept ourselves to ourselves — David and Glenn , with our wives — and it was great. David and I, what a great time. And we closed the show with CHEAP TRICK and Sheryl Crow , and our friends in CHICAGO .

"You know, it's a touchy subject," he continued. "It was not an easy night for us. If you look at the body language, it's pretty obvious. But again, David and I have been thick and thin for so long; I just dearly love him. Regarding DEEP PURPLE , I have no idea what they're doing, and I don't really care."

Hughes 's comments came less than two months after David expressed his exasperation at PURPLE over how he and Glenn were treated by their former band ahead of the Rock Hall induction. The singer, who played with DEEP PURPLE along with Hughes from 1973 to 1976, said: " Glenn Hughes and I were told, 'Well, we don't want you singing with us.' Initially, I'd spoken to Ian [ Gillan ] about coming up and singing the backgrounds of 'Smoke On The Water' , because originally they were going to close the show. So, that suddenly was pulled. They tried to stop us doing speeches, and my wife was fucking furious, apart from the fact she spent a fortune on posh dresses. [ Laughs ]"

DEEP PURPLE 's first three lineups were inducted into the Rock Hall , including guitarist Ritchie Blackmore , drummer Ian Paice , keyboardist Jon Lord , and various singers and bassists — Rod Evans , Gillan , Roger Glover , Coverdale and Hughes .

DEEP PURPLE 's acceptance speeches included turns from Gillan , Glover , Paice , Coverdale and Hughes before the then-lineup of DEEP PURPLE — Gillan , Glover , Paice , guitarist Steve Morse and keyboardist Don Airey — took the stage and played a short set consisting of "Highway Star" , "Green Onions" (with an image of Lord behind them), "Hush" and "Smoke On The Water" .

Deep Purple are an English rock band, formed in Hertford, Hertfordshire in 1968, and active since their reformation in 1984.

Over the course of a career that’s lasted almost forty years - and that’s not allowing for an eight-year break after an initial split in 1976 - Deep Purple have cemented their position as one of the most influential rock and roll bands in the history of the genre. Furthermore, they’re considered genuine pioneers of both hard rock and heavy metal after having moved away from initial roots in progressive rock, and have the commercial clout to back up their towering status within the rock community; they’ve sold in excess of one hundred million albums internationally. The current lineup features just one original member, Ian Paice on drums, although frontman Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover both joined the band shortly after they began, in 1969. Steve Morse, on guitar, and Don Airey on keys round out the five-piece as they stand today, and they continue to tour and record; their latest album, “Now What?!”, was released in April of 2013, and flirted with progressive metal.

That album might not have been as successful as the records that defined them back in their seventies heyday - March 1972’s “Machine Head”, which features their signature song “Smoke on the Water”, frequently features on countdowns of the greatest rock records ever - but they still pack out arenas the world over; their status as bona fide rock legends has long since been secure.

Live reviews

Perhaps it’s because their one and only split, in 1984, seems so long ago now, or perhaps because they lacked an iconic character of Ozzy Osbourne or Jimmy Page’s standing, but Deep Purple are the one member of the ‘unholy trinity,’ alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, who seem to have the lowest public profile. Sure, they still tour arenas, but Sabbath have been playing stadiums this summer, and as for Zeppelin, the number of applications for tickets for their one-off reunion at the O2 stretched into seven figures. Quietly, though - as unsuitable a phrasing as that is - the biggest band ever to come out of Hertford are continuing to do quite nicely for themselves. Their most recent UK jaunt had them mixing things up, playing some arenas and some theatres, and doing their best to avoid accusations that they’re trading off of former glories; of the seventeen tracks making the setlist each night, seven were plucked from last year’s 'Now What?!' record. The classics made the cut, too, of course, as did all the trappings of the classic rock show - extensive soloing and plentiful crowd participation included. Stadium tours any time soon? Probably not, but if we’re talking about the preservation of their legacy, Deep Purple are certainly doing it justice.

Wonderfull concert by Amsterdam Ziggo Dome last Night of 2 june 2017.

Whole members of Deep Purple are playing very well ! Roger Clover, Don Airy, Steve Morse , Ian Paice and off course Ian Gillian himself . I was dissopointed not playing "Child in Time" . Everybody was expected this song. I was very happy to see this guys.

One of my favorite leadguitar Ritchie Blackmore was not present. Well Deep Purple , thank you all , to coming to Holland.

I was proud to see you again and my evening was best performance!

Thank you Deep Purple keep at going.

Greetings from Horn ( little village in Netherlands)

Deep Purple exploded onto the stage at the Fox Theater in Detroit with their opening song,"Highway Star!" From then on they gave a blistering and thunderous performance!

The visual effects and lighting were spectacular! Their stage presence was commanding and presentation very tight and spot on!

I have seen Deep Purple multiple times over the years. I must say this show found them in their finest form!

The crowd was ravenous to eat up every note! Detroit is the best place in the world for a concert!

This tour is title,"The Long Goodbye."

I sincerely hope this isn't so. Hopefully in the future they will tour as,"Hello Again!"

It was my first time seeing Deep Purple and they did not disappoint. The band was extremely tight and witnessing Steve Morse shred the guitar was worth the price of admission alone. They ripped through two hours of classics including a couple of new tunes off their latest album which was just as strong. Don't miss what may be one of your last chances to see these guys in such strong form. At my show in South Florida, Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden came out to see the band and introduced them. Their influence can be heard throughout the Rock world and they should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Besides being a fan of Deep Purple I have to criticize the show. Sorry! Mainly the sound technician did a bad work. Sound was way too loud that it was overlapping. Sometimes it was difficult to recognize the song and hear a melody. Members of the band, the musicians, worked hard and well, unfortunately, Ian Gillan has to retire. It was hard to hear him singing, he often was disappearing from stage. That, to say, in my opinion, he used to be "the Nail" of the shows with his high notes.

I was expecting more pleasant evening from the band I like.

seen DEEP PURPLE with edgar winter warm up, Alice Cooper warm up (why they did this is ridiculous !Deep Purple on a farewell tour played 7 songs off their latest album? they had an organ solo. Ian Gillian spent half the show going bejind the wall probably to get high. no encore song. Alice Cooper should have played the whole 3 hours because he was the best. always a good show. Edgar winter smoked Deep Purple. they need Ritchie blackmore back and david coverdale. Glover and pace the only stars. deep purple needs to retire for good.

Smashing gig!

Suppirt act Cats In Space were a great surprise with their pop rock style that was heavier than expected.

Europe were really good. Joey Tempest was his usual 80s flamboyant self, and the sound was cracking!

Depp Purple were superb. This line-up is tight and settled, with some excellent playing in the original Purple vein. Ian Gillan looked like he'd just wandered in off his sofa, he was so chilled.

All in all, a superb gig that crossed a massive item off my own bucket list

Well it was 47 years since I first saw them and 32 years since I sat in a bin bag in a field at Knebworth. They blew me and my son-in-law away last night.

The new albums songs from Infinite were fantastic especially The Surprising and Birds of Prey interspersed with some old favourites such as Fireball, Perfect Strangers and Smoke on the Water.

Bit disappointed no Highway Star.

As much as I loved it I think it's time to call it quits for playing live - go out on a high with your new album.

gareth-williams-19’s profile image

I didn't know what to expect. I have seen many bands the last few years, but I had forgotten what good musicians sound like. I remember now after seeing Deep Purple last night. What a fantastic display of musicianship by each member. At some point each of them wee featured and that's why we go! Performers who really love to perform. You don't get that much anymore. And the songs.......well they were awesome as well. I recommend highly if you get the opportunity.

What an incredible show. Starlight Theatre in Kansas City is a beautiful venue and it was a beautiful night. Judas Priest played before Deep Purple and blew the (non-existent) roof off the place. Their experience and chops were on full display. Deep Purple headlined and played lots of the crowd favorites. They may be old and the lineups may have changed, but if you grew up listening to this stuff, don't miss out on seeing them now.

Deep Purple Releases New Song 'Pictures of You' From Upcoming Album

'=1’ will be released on July 19th.

pixeltracker

Following the success of their debut single ‘Portable Door’, Deep Purple has released ‘Pictures Of You’, the second song from their upcoming album ‘=1’.

LATEST NEWS

Deep Purple’s latest song, ‘Pictures Of You’ is now available for streaming and as instant gratification track with all digital download pre-orders for ‘=1’. Additionally, the single is offered as part of a four-track bundle which features two previously unreleased live recordings from 2022 in Milan, Italy: ‘When A Blind Man Cries’ and ‘Uncommon Man’.

For collectors, the excitement continues as the physical pre-sale of ‘Pictures Of You’ begins today. The single will be released on CD and 12” vinyl on June 28th, 2024, with each format being strictly limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide, and each copy being numbered by hand.

The first music video for ‘Portable Door’, featuring the band performing live on stage, quickly surpassed one million views. In this new video, fans will once again see Deep Purple in their element, performing together.

The enigmatic album title ‘=1’ encapsulates the band’s philosophy of unity amidst complexity, promising an album that resonates deeply with their five decades spanning hard rock legacy. Produced once again by iconic Bob Ezrin, ‘=1’ captures the purest classic Deep Purple sound, without relying on nostalgia.

Don’t Text, Mommy’s at the Rolling Stones

Portrait of Justin Curto

It’s summer — do you know where your children are? For once, avoiding that ghastly Ticketmaster queue. While Taylor is off on her Tortured Poets Department semester abroad and Ariana Grande is in the Galinda bubble , there’s an uncommon dearth of young stars on the American circuit through August. Left to fill the gap? Older artists, who are hitting the road to tour new albums, celebrate anniversaries, or just line their pockets (and sometimes all three). Yes, it’s a season of looking back, whether that means to the Summer of Love or to those years when you couldn’t leave the house without hearing an Usher hit. So which Gen-X, elder-millenial, or boomer-friendly summer tour is right for you?

The Golden Oldies

These old-timers still got the goods! Frozen-in-amber acts the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are playing marathon sets with a verve that’ll have you thinking they’re doping with Cialis, while Bob Dylan continues his never-ending tour, this time with Willie Nelson. Also, icons of the ’80s — whether that’s Janet Jackson’s dance pop or Metallica ’s thrash metal — firmly count as classic now. Dust off that leather jacket and embrace it.

The OG Lollapaloozers

Gen-Xers can have a grunge-girl summer with Pearl Jam, finally see Missy Elliott headline a tour, or lean into dadhood and catch Wilco for the 27th time. You even have two chances to see Sublime, depending on whether you want the real guys , who are playing with Bradley Nowell’s son, or you’re a big Rome fan for some reason.

The ’90s Wannabes

Vampire Weekend doesn’t technically belong with the Gen-Xers. But they did leave the neo–dad rock of 2019’s Father of the Bride for ’90s New York City nostalgia on this year’s Only God Was Above Us, so consider them ’90s in spirit. Death comes for us all.

Vampire Weekend June 6–October 17

The Stars of TRL

From two-fifths of *NSYNC to five-fifths of P!nk (a.k.a. just P!nk), this season’s highest-profile pop shows are for the Y2k MTV-nostalgia crowd (c ondolences to the J.Lo fans ). Of the paltry few things millennial culture can take pride in, these performers’ live acts are among them — just ask anyone who saw Usher in Vegas.

The Country Elders

Old country fans who love complaining about how the genre isn’t as good as it was back in their day will have ample opportunity to relive it. Alabama and George Strait are repping the best of the ’80s (alongside old soul Chris Stapleton), Tim McGraw and Clint Black are resurrecting their classic ’90s sound , and Kenny Chesney is delivering all those laid-back, turn-of-the-century hits. Even if, for some reason, you’re longing for 2010s bro-country, well, Luke Bryan’s on tour too.

The Cross-Generational Diplomats

What’s a band to do when they’re not a big enough draw to play amphitheaters on their own? Team up with another band that’s about 20 years older (or younger!). These acts are ambassadors, bringing together generations of indie-music nerds (Modest Mouse & Pixies), karaoke balladeers (Train & REO Speedwagon), or fans of groovy Bay Area rockers (Santana & Counting Crows).

Young Music That Feels Old

Okay, here’s where we can build some bridges. This is the ‘take your tween daughter or younger cousin to one of these and earn Mom Cred, Dad Cred, or the much less vaunted Cousin Cred(?)’ material. Proving to older generations that what’s popular today isn’t that bad is a fool’s errand. Well, except for right now, while old-fashioned rootsy folk and country music is topping the charts. Parents will probably like the heart-baring Noah Kahan and the country rogue Zach Bryan as much as their zillennial kids .
