Turkish music's triple triumph: New singles of Apache 207, Selin, Ayaz

By hakan uç.

German-based Turkish rapper Apache 207 celebrated his album release at an exclusive event, while Selin, a rising star, introduced her English single 'Lights Off,' and Ayaz's collaboration with Capital Bra on 'NANA' is poised to make waves in the global music scene

German-based Turkish rapper Apache 207 is celebrating the release of his new album "Gartenstadt."

On June 8, an exclusive album launch party took place at Holiday Park, where 500 lucky fans and invited guests came together to celebrate the artist's latest chapter. In a somewhat unusual location, after a brief greeting, guests had the opportunity to relive their childhood and enjoy the park's attractions.

The highlights of the evening included Apache 207's live performance, the release of the new music video for "What Do You Know?" and a spectacular fireworks display to kick off the album release party.

Following his previous albums "Record" (2019) and "Ladder" (2020), Apache 207 released his latest album, "2sad2disco," in 2021. With the new album, Apache 207 continues to evolve smoothly, offering deep insights into the experiences of the past two years. "Gartenstadt" pays homage to Ludwigshafen, the neighborhood where Apache 207 grew up with his friends and family. The songs on the album cover various genres, ranging from melancholic to cheerful, and traverse between deep lyrics and ironic self-reflection, all within Apache 207's distinctive style.

Apache 207's music blends various genres like R&B, Eurodance, 80s pop and hip-hop. The tall, long-haired and sunglasses-wearing artist is a unique representation of German rap and pop culture. In a short time, he took over the German music scene with his songs, quickly selling out arenas.

His distinctive voice has left a mark in the hearts of a whole generation, and he has an unparalleled ability to convey his life experiences in a truly unique way. Neither he nor his music can be easily categorized. With a clear vision, he and his team have been walking the path of independence in the German music scene since 2018. What started on YouTube quickly spread like wildfire. Their vision, unconventional style, and themes that go beyond typical rapper clichés have won over German audiences.

One of the reasons Apache 207 has already received 27 gold, seven platinum, and one diamond awards for his songs is his refusal to follow trends. He doesn't allow boundaries to be placed on his music and doesn't see himself in competition with anyone. He follows his instincts and makes the right decisions at the right moments. His music, videos, and lyrics are his art, and each song reflects a piece of him.

Selin during the shootings of

Selin's global debut

Selin , the rising star of Türkiye's new generation music scene, released her new English single "Lights Off" in September.

The artist, who shuttles between scenes and studio work in Türkiye and London, has released several successful songs over the past year, including "Son Arzum" (5.7M+ streams), "Bu Gece" (3.6M+ streams), and tracks from the Nostalgia Sessions EP (18M+ streams) such as "Yalancı Bahar" (8.2M+ streams), "Lovers Hurricane" (4.1M+ streams), "Cool" (2.8M+ streams) and "IMMA LIAR" (1M+ streams).

Selin achieved great success in Türkiye this summer with her Turkish song and viral hit "Yalancı Bahar," which has been on the "Top 50 Türkiye" and "Viral 50 Türkiye" charts for over two months. Selin has been delivering electrifying performances at summer concerts and collaborated with successful rappers like "Motive" and groups like "Dolu Kadehi Ters Tut."

One of Warner Music's rising international stars, Selin's single was released as a preview of her upcoming album "Paranoia," slated for release in October.

Regarding "Lights Off," Selin said: "It tells the story of a relationship slowly fading away. Even though two people get along well, some things can lead it toward its end. The idea of 'Lights Off' symbolically approaches someone who was once important to me. Despite our efforts, we realized that there was an aspect of our relationship that was actually struggling to continue."

"In relationships, we often want others to fit us, and we do the same for them. But from my perspective, it's more about both sides recognizing their flaws and creating a better journey together rather than just making things work. 'Lights Off' attempts to capture the feeling of two people slowly drifting apart, realizing that the relationship is no longer a good fit. Sometimes, being mature means ending things instead of forcing them to continue. In this case, no matter how difficult it was, I had to turn the lights off," she said.

Türkiye's prominent figures in rap music, Ayaz (L) and Capital Bra. (Photo by Hakan Uç)

Türkiye's prominent figure in rap music, Ayaz , a name that continues to elevate himself toward the top with each passing day, has now made it onto my list with his collaboration with Capital Bra, also known as Joker Bra, in the song "NANA."

The song, done in collaboration with Capital, features German lyrics. The music video, directed by the beloved director Capture Hood from Germany, is once again noteworthy. Ayaz excels in this song with his vocals, lyrics, and even the visuals in the music video, positioning himself effectively within the global music community. The song's production is handled by the talented producer Vef, while mix and mastering are done by Jagerstereo.

I personally believe that German lyrics suit rap music very well, and Ayaz's "NANA" is on its way to the top, I believe he will achieve great success soon.

Apashe to Embark on 29-Date ‘Antagonist’ Tour With Brass Orchestra Across in Celebration of New Album

Apashe celebrates the upcoming fall release of his new album ‘antagonist’ by announcing a 29-date tour complete with a brass orchestra..

In anticipation of his new album ‘Antagonist,’ the genre-bending producer Apashe is at large. After releasing the new single “Gasoline” earlier this year, excitement has been building for the artist who recently announced the 29-date ‘Antagonist’ tour kicking off in Denver on October 7.

Stopping in every major North American city, Apashe’s tour will be accompanied by a live eight-piece brass orchestra complete with French horns, trombones, and trumpets. Known for fusing melodic symphonies with upbeat electronica and hints of hip-hop, the Canada-based producer is going all in with this full-spectrum show.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by 𝖆 𝖕 𝖆 𝖘 𝖍 𝖊 (@apashe)

Apashe has been teasing the tour on socials even before releasing the first track of his album in April. “Gasoline” features Dehli hip-hop artist Raga and is a balance between mystifying darkness and futuristic groove. Synonymous with the suspense of his ‘Antagonist’ album set to release this fall, the producer’s music is renowned for weaponizing the element of surprise.

Presale is in full swing and members of Apashe’s Majestic Squad are already gearing up for the experience. In response to the ticket release, a fan on Twitter commented, “I was right on that 1st thing this morning.. got my ticket to the Pittsburgh show..!!!” Another fan said, “Tickets secured! See you in DC!!!”

Behind the household Apashe name is mastermind John De Buck. The Belgian-born artist moved to Canada at 19 where he studied production and quickly found success in sound design. Heard in iconic fashion campaigns, films, and video games like John Wick, Yves Saint Laurent, Netflix , Marvel, Fast & Furious, and more, his music is a force to be reckoned with in mainstream and underground realms.

Recent sets at Bonnaroo , Electric Forest , Rampage Openair in Belgium, and Main Stage Festival in France may have gotten a taste of ‘Antagonist,’ along with a compilation of his previous ‘ Renaissance ’ LP and ‘I Killed The Orchestra’ EP. However, the impressive caliber of his upcoming tour has yet to be experienced in its full glory. Coming to a major city near you, Apashe and his brass orchestra are taking over North America this fall with the ‘Antagonist’ tour.

Sturgill Simpson to release new album under a new name, embark on 2024 concert tour

apache tour album

A decade following the breakout success of his May 2014-released album "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music," Sturgill Simpson has announced not just his forthcoming eighth album — July 12's "Passage Du Desir" — under a new alias, Johnny Blue Skies, but also a 28-date North American tour.

Famously, Simpson noted he would only release five studio albums under his name. His Johnny Blue Skies debut will be released via his own independent label, High Top Mountain Records. Simpson (credited as Johnny Blue Skies) and David Ferguson co-produced songs recorded at Nashville, Tennessee's Clement House Recording Studio and London's Abbey Road Studios .

"Passage Du Desir" is currently available for pre-order at shop.sturgillsimpson.com .

The Passage du Desir is a shopping district in downtown Paris' 10th arrondissement, or district, located a 20-minute drive east of the Eiffel Tower.

In a 2021 feature for the Nashville Tennessean , part of the USA TODAY Network, Simpson noted that he idealized a career in which he was free of making records that sustained a self-branded industry as a machine.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"To me, that sounds like prison. It's a job, you're a politician."

Instead, the past decade has seen him achieve Grammy-winning acclaim for five full-length studio albums, two COVID-19 quarantine bluegrass projects — "Cuttin' Grass Vol. 1 and Vol. 2" — and acting in film and television roles, including "The Dead Don't Die," " Queen & Slim ," " Killers of the Flower Moon ," and " The Righteous Gemstones ."

Regarding the sound that his Johnny Blue Skies debut could encompass, he offered to The Tennessean in 2021 that he would need to "(have) something to say" and be "really excited about" a "really great idea for a record."

"I'll put it this way, if I go back into the studio it'll be because I thought of the complete and total reinvention that gets me excited," Simpson said. "But it won't be my name. I'm done with that all that."

Bon Jovi is still living on a prayer -- 40 years into their career!

ET's Rachel Smith caught up with Jon Bon Jovi at the opening of his new, five-story Nashville bar, JBJ's Nashville , on Friday to discuss his band's new album, his ongoing recovery from vocal cord surgery and how soon the band might hit the road on tour.

Bon Jovi released their 16th studio album, Forever , on Friday, and the frontman explained that, unlike their two previous albums, this one is simply "joyous."

"As much as I love 2020 , [it] was written in a time where the world was in lockdown -- not a joyous record," he recalled. "And This House Is Not For Sale was a statement record."

"Now here we are, coming through all of that -- it was just a great sense of joy as we look back on our 40th and forward to new music," he continued. "It's a good record."

Bon Jovi released their first, self-titled album in January 1984, and four decades later, the group is mostly going strong -- with the exception of some health issues. Jon underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022, and while he sings on the new record, he admitted to ET that he's not quite 100 percent yet.

"I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel," he shared. "It’s been a long process --  it’s been two years -- and look, I’m not quite there yet."

In order to go on tour again -- which he hopes can happen sometime next year -- the frontman said he's challenging himself to sing "two and a half hours, four nights a week -- this is the bar I set for myself... I don't mess around when we go out."

For now, Jon said he's enjoying what's been a big year career-wise, so far. In addition to the album and his new Nashville bar -- which is right in the midst of Music City's popular Broadway nightlife district -- he was also honored as the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year and the band was the subject of a new Hulu docuseries,  Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.

"The docuseries kind of kicked everything off for the year, as did MusicCares... the GRAMMYs took the time to acknowledge our catalog of music, as well as my philanthropic work," he reflected. "Now, today’s release day and the first single, 'Legendary,' has absolutely blown up on all kinds of formats of radio worldwide... I’m pinching myself."

Despite a discography that includes six No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, and over 130 million records sold, Jon said it's still a thrill to have a hit -- and even sweeter due to the band's longevity.

"When we started, there weren’t any bands that I could look to that had had a 40-year career," he noted. "The Rolling Stones were 20 years old at the time, you know, The Beatles had long since broken up, The E-Street Band was 10 years old. Now, of course, The Stones are 60 years old, AC/DC is 50 years old, The E-Street Band is 50 years old, Bon Jovi is 40 years old -- which is good for a young band to see how to do this, how to navigate a long, real career."

He's also excited to be in the center of music history with JBJ's Nashville, the opening of which he said is a "a four-year dream come to fruition."

"We've done several albums [in Nashville], some of our biggest hits were recorded here, written countless songs here," he reflected. "I always jokingly say, 'These are my people,' because the acting community is what we call Hollywood, perhaps. These are songwriters, these are my people -- I was drawn to the community [in the] very early 1990s. I had buddies down here and I really did think I was ahead of the curve."

Now, he marveled, "We're the new kids on the block, as we say, and all our neighbors are unbelievable artists."

Bon Jovi's 16th studio album, Forever , is out now.

A Guide to 2024’s Music Festivals: Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and More

A Complete Guide to 2024 Music Festivals

The new year is still young, but the calendar is already full of music festivals showcasing artists of all genres — and drawing in the biggest celebs.

Festival season is usually characterized by surprise collaborations, major fashion moments and controversy, and 2024 will likely be no different. From Boston to L.A., dozens of different events will bring in major talent to please every type of music fan. From the hip-hop-centric Rolling Loud to the country-focused Stagecoach, there’s no shortage of options for attendees.

Coachella, the star-studded party in the California desert, is one of the biggest music festivals in the United States and always yields memorable moments. Swifties may remember Taylor Swift ’s “ Bleachella ” transformation in 2016, when the singer unveiled platinum blonde locks to support then-boyfriend Calvin Harris at the festival.

Several years later, Harry Styles surprised screaming fans by duetting with Shania Twain and Lizzo during his 2022 headlining sets. Frank Ocean , meanwhile, made headlines at last year’s festival when he dropped out of weekend two after his first performance was plagued with production issues.

Coachella 2023 Photos: See What the Stars Wore to the Festival

Coachella is far from the only game in town, though, as artists including Hozier , Morgan Wallen , Post Malone , Noah Kahan , Lana Del Rey , Zach Bryan , Ed Sheeran , Reneé Rapp , Megan Thee Stallion , Stevie Nicks and many more will be making the rounds at festivals nationwide this year.

Read on for a complete, chronological guide to each major festival hitting the U.S. in 2024:

Innings Festival

When: February 23-24

Where: Tempe, Arizona

Headliners: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hozier, Jimmy Eat World, Macklemore, Third Eye Blind

Acts to Watch:

Greta Van Fleet: The Grammy-winning prog rock band has played at some of the biggest arenas in the U.S. to promote their third album, Starcatcher , and they’re generating buzz for their raw, Led Zeppelin–esque sound.

Phantogram: Why does their 2014 track “Black Out Days” sound so familiar? Because a remix of the musical duo’s song was all over TikTok last year. Phantogram has been releasing music since 2007 and currently boasts over 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Why It’s Special: Innings Festival takes place during MLB Spring Training in Arizona and allows “passionate baseball fans to come together and practice some of their own skills among the greats.” In addition to the music lineup, baseball icons including Ryan Dempster , Matt Kemp and Luis Gonzalez will make appearances at the event.

Extra Innings Festival

When: March 1-2

Headliners: Chris Stapleton, Dave Matthews Band, Noah Kahan, Sheryl Crow, Morgan Wade

Elle King: You may recognize her 2015 hit “Ex’s & Oh’s” or her 2023 duet with Miranda Lambert, “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).” The daughter of comedian Rob Schneider , King seamlessly blends genres with her gravelly, bluesy vocals and country-pop sensibility.

Larkin Poe: Sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell make up the American roots rock duo Larkin Poe. Their album Blood Harmony is up for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the upcoming 66th Grammy Awards.

Why It’s Special: As the second weekend of the Spring Training–based Innings festival, Extra Innings will also feature a slate of MLB legends including Adrián González , Ryan Braun , Tim Raines and Bobby Valentine .

A Complete Guide to 2024 Music Festivals

Rolling Loud California

When: March 15-17

Where: Inglewood, California

Headliners: Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Future x Metro Boomin, Big Sean

Partynextdoor: The first artist signed to Drake’s record label OVO Sound, Canadian musician Partynextdoor is known for his producing work with Rihanna, DJ Khaled, Kanye West, Usher and more.

The All-American Rejects: Major hits like “Gives You Hell,” “Dirty Little Secret” and “Move Along” gave the All-American Rejects worldwide recognition in the early aughts. While the band has not released a studio album in over a decade, they have continued to tour and have sold over 10 million albums worldwide.

Cobra Starship: The dance rock band announced their breakup in 2015, but they released a new song in 2021 and plan to make a rare reunion performance at the festival. Their hits “Good Girls Go Bad” and “You Make Me Feel …” dominated the airwaves in the early 2000s.

Why It’s Special: The festival designed for early 2000s nostalgia launched in Las Vegas in 2022 with a punk-dominated lineup. The event’s musical acts, most of which hit their prime in the early aughts, play their most iconic music for nostalgic audiences.

Taylor Swift opens the Eras tour in Paris

Over a year into Taylor Swift’s Eras tour , she has found ways to keep the show fresh and new for those who have been waiting since she opened in Phoenix, Arizona in March 2023 to see her. Since the tour began in the United States last year, Swift has released two rerecorded albums —  Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)  and  1989 (Taylor’s Version)  in addition to a brand-new double album,  The Tortured Poets Department.

Taylor Swift: Which Eras Tour Songs Didn’t Make Concert Film & Which Surprise Songs Got In

Every show on the Eras Tour involves an acoustic set where Swift performs at least two songs custom to that night’s show. At first, she wouldn’t allow herself repeats unless she messed up the lyrics to a song, but now, she has done away with that rule and gotten more creative by combining songs in mashups and playing up to four in a segment. The first song or three take place on guitar, and then she shifts to piano for the second half before diving beneath the stage to resume the setlist – which has since contracted and expanded to include a  Tortured Poets Department  era and set .

Below you’ll find Taylor Swift’s surprise songs that she has played most recently in Europe as well as a record of all those she has played on the entire tour so far.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ice Spice ‘s long-awaited debut album, “Y2K,” is almost here.

The Bronx rapper, celebrated for her sweet, lackadaisical flow, will drop her first full-length album on July 26. It is produced by her longtime creative collaborator RIOTUSA, who also worked on her critically acclaimed debut EP, 2023’s “Like...?”, with its cheeky earworms, “In Ha Mood” and “Munch (Feelin’ U).”

He also produced her most recent single, “Gimme A Light,” which will be featured on “Y2K.” It samples Sean Paul’s 2002 dancehall single of a similar name, “Gimme the Light.”

Around “Y2K,” Ice Spice will tour extensively this summer, spending most of July on the European festival circuit before heading back to North America on July 30, where she will headline Washington, D.C.'s The Anthem.

She’ll hit many major cities in the U.S. as well as Toronto before concluding Aug. 31 in Miami Beach, Florida. RIOTUSA and rapper Cash Cobain will support.

Ice Spice broke out last year, hitting the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart four times: for two collaborations with her hero Nicki Minaj — “Princess Diana” from “Like...?” and “Barbie World” from the blockbuster film — as well as her feature on Taylor Swift ‘s “Karma” and 2023’s song of the summer , “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” with U.K. hyperpop singer/producer PinkPantheress.

She also received four Grammy nominations for the 66th annual award show, including best rap song and best new artist.
