A bit about myself and why I became vegan

Hi there, my name is Doris, I’m an Austrian-born vegan based in Berlin. I became a vegetarian when I was about 15 years old, as I am a very empathic and emotional person that loved all animals and couldn’t bear seeing them suffer for my food. I became vegan 9 years later, because I wanted to cut all ties to the animal industry and become 100% cruelty free. It might sound a bit strange, but I felt an even larger connection towards all non-human animals since then. Because I adopted a vegetarian lifestyle as a teenager, food and nutrition always played a big role in my life. This led me to a degree in dietetics and later a part time job for an NGO called „foodwatch“, that focuses on consumer protection in the food sector. Besides that, I am currently working on my master thesis on the role of art in the era of #MeToo, doing lots of yoga and exploring the Berlin vegan scene. I welcome you to come and join me, on a Vegan Tour of Berlin!

Vegan tour in Kreuzkölln

This tour focuses on the hip area Kreuzkölln. Some of the places we will visit will be 100% vegan establishments, while others might cater to vegans and offer certain vegan friendly options. You can choose along the way where and what you would like to taste, from the large variety this area has to offer, from Donuts to Tofu Burger and Focaccia. You will find many local vegan versions of traditional local foods or we can explore authentic worldwide cuisine. We can stop at a local supermarket where I can show you the huge variety of vegan products and supplies most supermarkets carry. Anything from snacks and sweets to plant-based milks, cheeses and faux meats. We will end up in one of Berlin’s most popular food market where we will recoup and have one last opportunity to try their vegan fares.

Vegan Punky Side (East Berlin) Tour

Tour 2: the punky tour.

The district of former East Berlin is known for its punky side. It has a high density of vegan restaurant that is just as diverse as the people of Berlin. Come and explore vegan food, from variations of local food to cuisines from around the globe!

We will go and visit Veganz, the first of major vegan supermarkets in Europe as well as a famous vegan shoe-shop! Then we will try vegan variations of traditional Turkish food, which is as culturally rooted in Berlin as German dishes. We then sample some Vietnamese tapas an end the tour with a vegan Döner place, where I will answer all your related questions on vegan Berlin and Germany.

I've been vegan for over 5 years, and vegetarian 7 years before that (you can also leave it at vegan)

I moved to Berlin in June 2012, so over 7 years

What is your favorite restaurant in Berlin?

Oh my, there are so many to choose from. If I have to, then I would pick Viasko, a punky yet chic restaurant that serves a know-out brunch as a well as a seasonal menu in the evening

What is your favorite vegan activity?

Other then eating and cooking, just living as mindful and sustainable as I can in my daily life

What is the main reason for you being vegan?

I went vegan because I realised that being vegetarian meant still causing harm to animals and that I didn't want to be a speciesist

“Vegan Tours Berlin” started as the first vegan food tour in Europe, before the vegan boom in Berlin even started. The project developed and changed over time and this passion project became a small local social business that combines a fully vegan food tour with a lot of storytelling about Berlin, inspiring green sustainable project.

There are vegan food tours in different districts in Berlin. Every vegan tour is as unique and different as Berlin’s districts. I offer public group tours and private tours as well. Have a look at the descriptions and choose your favorite veggie tour.

And, of course, everybody is welcome. You do not have to be vegan or vegetarian to join the tour. The vegetarian-curious are more then welcome to join!

Hey! I am Maja. I am a Berlin local, living in Kreuzberg . I founded this vegan food tour Berlin some years ago and it became my passion to run them and to show people around. I love the feeling to share yummy food with like minded people. I’m a vegan foodie, curious Berlin lover and a vivid story teller. As I have a background in science and I worked in medical research, I have a deep knowledge about healthy nutrition. So, just in case you are curious, I can answer your questions about that topic during the tour.
