This is the second time I have been in this store without anyone asking if I need help. Last time I asked for help and it appeared that I was bothering them. I'm looking to buy a mountain bike and shoes and I have questions and no one is willing to help. I'll take my money somewhere else.
Went in to service my oldest sons bike, and asked a few questions about a bicycle for my middle son. Walked out with another new bicycle for him. Great service, super easy purchase process, and overall, spending a bit more on a Trek, over "toy store" or Big Box stores, is worth it.
I heard good reviews about trek mountain bikes (electric versions) and wanted to try one out. Trek Cranberry was very helpful and knowledgeable about their bikes and I had a great chance to test ride a Trek PowerFly 4. I was very impressed with the whole process. I would certainly recommend this trek dealership.
I went here as a beginner. I just bought an indoor bike and wanted shoes that would help me. The lady working was extremely helpful with getting me into the right shoes, as well as explaining to me the difference between them all. She even went as far as to explain how to add the cleats. It made me feel comfortable in an area I know nothing about.
I've been going to this shop since they opened and have never had a bad experience. Great people. Especially the mechanic Tim, very knowledgeable and very helpful. I own a Cannondale but have Tim work on it. That's how much I respect him.
EDIT: I called and spoke to a manager about the issues I had with the tuneup I had done. He was extremely polite and was kind enough to refund my money. I'm still not sure I'd take my bike back to them however, if I ever decide to purchase a brand new bike or have a new one tuned up, I would consider giving them another chance. They just seem a bit flummoxed by older cycles. So, I'm just going to strip down my old bike, repaint, replace a few parts and suck it up and buy the tools I need. At any rate, if you have a newer bike, go for it. If not, consider trying someplace else or doing the work yourself. Well, $60 later and my bike is still not fixed. I brought in an older, pretty well cared for bike to have the basic tuneup done and have the back brake checked. Here's what they say they do for the Silver Tune up package: Silver Tune-up Package Includes adjustment of your shifting & braking systems, tire inflation, a complete functionality and safety inspection, and (of course) chain lubrication. 1: Back brake is still way too "soft." (i.e. Not fixed.) 2: The chain definitely doesn't appear to have been lubed AND when I told them how old the bike was (90's) the kid at the register said, "oh, if it's THAT old we'll have to do the $80 tune up and lube the chain and stuff." 3: They claimed they changed a brake line - certainly doesn't appear that way. All the lines are still the original lines. 4: The front tire is flat. They clearly did NOT inflate or check the tires. The ONLY difference I can see in my bike at all - they straitened the front reflector attachment which had been bent. I will never bring my bike here again. Aside from all the things they don't seem to have done and yet charged me for, the attitude I got from the (very young looking) clerk made it even worse. I will be calling and complaining first thing tomorrow.
Just went to look for a new bike at this location. I wondered around for about 15 or 20 minutes, the three employees working in the store never even said hi or asked if I needed help. I finally left as it felt awkward and I got the impression the Trek employees did want to do any work.
We have had excellent service from Trek every time we go. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. We will always purchase our bikes from this store.
I was greeted by friendly helpful staff. I needed a repair and Tim was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He went above and beyond! I will definitely return for my next cycling need and recommend to my friends!
I am new to the world of cycling and loving it. These guys (and girl) have been a huge help and a lot of fun to know. I bought two bikes here and a lot of gear necessary to get going in the sport. I anticipate buying a road bike next year and will be headed here first to see what they recommend. I needed a wide shoe and they sent me to another shop because they didn't have my size. This shows me that they care more about me getting the right gear fast than just making a buck. If you are new to the sport or an avid rider I recommend checking this place out. Their personalities and willingness to help really set them apart.

22 september 2013, a trek to cranberry peak in maine's bigelow mountain range, 8 comments:.
John, Great photos and report on a beautiful area! I've not been to that end of the Bigelow Range. Many hikers feel the Bigelows are second only to Katahdin as a mountain area in Maine. West and Avery Peaks are great, but probably my favorite spot was the North Horn, jutting out towards Flagstaff Lake. Lots to explore there! Steve
Thanks Steve! As you say, there's definitely lots to explore in the Bigelow Range! Don't know if it will happen this calendar year, but in 2014 I hope to visit the peaks that you have visited, i.e. West and Avery Peak, and the Horns. John
Hi John, Yes I'm still here, but my time online in the past two weeks has been sporadic at best. I see you've returned to Maine to do some hiking and it looks like you had perfect weather for it! I have never heard of the Bigelow Mountain Range but, judging by the photos on this post, it's a very worthwhile destination. The trail looks lovely—so lush and green—and Flagstaff Lake is huge. Is the area part of the national forest system? Thanks again for a great post, and for introducing me to a new area to explore the next time I'm in the northeast!
Hi Rita, I sort of figured that you’re still busy with the aftermath of moving to your new home. Just as a follow-up to your question, the Bigelow Mountain Preserve, was established by the people of Maine in a June 1976 referendum. The 36,000 acre preserve is governed by the Maine Department of Conservation, and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Many consider the Bigelow Range as a close second to Maine's Mt. Katahdin in terms of hiking and great ridge walking. More information about the Bigelow Mountain Preserve can be accessed by cutting and pasting the following link into your Internet browser. http://www.maine.gov/doc/nrimc/mnap/focusarea/bigelow_mountain_focus_area.pdf John
Hmm . . I'm sensing a fruit theme here. Probably just coincidence! Very tantalizing photos, as we'll be in Maine next summer for a nice jaunt along the AT, ending in the Bigelows. We probably won't be on the trail you took, but the information and photos are certainly inspiring!
Summerset, I’m impressed that you picked up on the “fruit theme” for my recent forays into Maine, i.e. Cranberry Peak, and Blueberry Mountain. But, as you suggest, this was actually just by coincidence. Regarding the Maine adventure you have planned for next summer, you will undoubtedly LOVE the hiking there. It is so super terrific! Thanks as always for your comments! John
Thanks for your excellent photographs, evoking great memories for me, who with my wife maintained that trail from Stratton to the A.T. for about 25 years with some breaks (1971-1999). The only mystery about that sign I made is "mystery" in your caption. It could hardly be more clear in pointing down to the adjacent last drinking water source before the peak (a spring) and upward to the dry trail ahead. Panberry Creek is my spoonerism of Cranberry Peak. BTW, if you hike the w.hole trail to its end at the AT just beyond Cranberry Pond, a beautiful tarn, you can hike down the AT to the highway and hitch back to Stratton, or spot cars, both easier and maybe more interesting than retracing the trail. Beginning at that AT juncture is a cascading series of the highest beaver dams I've ever seen, now overgrown and minus the beavers that followed the logging there long ago. About there, on the right, is a spring by a big rock, the first drinking water source since Panberry Creek. Dick Dreselly
Thanks so very much for reading my blog and for your kind words about the photos. And special thanks to you for providing information about the “Panberry Creek” sign. Now it’s no longer a “mystery” to me! (smile). And last, but certainly not least, I want to thank you and your wife for the labor and time you dedicated to maintaining that segment of the Bigelow Range Trail for a span of 25 years! Your dedication is very admirable. All the best to you! John Compton Bethlehem, NH

Photos of Rivian R1 refresh leak, including new aero wheels and chrome delete
Rivian is about to refresh its R1 line for the 2025 model year, and we’re starting to see a lot of leaked photos showing pretty much all of the exterior changes.
We heard most of the details of the R1 refresh last week from Rivian’s EPA filing , which detailed that the model would get a new cheaper LFP battery on the base model, which should help Rivian get costs down as it seeks positive margins .
But LFP also means lower energy density, which means Rivian needs to find some efficiency improvements elsewhere. Two of those planned improvements are a heat pump, which makes cabin heating more efficient in cold weather, and aerodynamic wheels, which drastically improves vehicle aerodynamics and range.
Now we’re seeing photos of the aero wheels, along with photos of a slightly modified exterior, including possible chrome delete and new headlights.
Several Rivian vehicles have been spotted around Seattle this week , along with the Rivian Space being closed and Rivian being seen filming in the area.
spotted in seattle yesterday pic.twitter.com/zwhD0NlITU — Jabin Chen (@ChenJabin) May 29, 2024
The vehicles feature a similar look to last year’s model, but the one spotted in Seattle has a “chrome delete” which gets rid of the chrome trim around the rear window. This has been a relatively popular modification, with lots of third party installers offering a service to do so.
The vehicles at the factory didn’t have the same chrome delete – so perhaps it’s an optional feature. We also saw a lack of chrome on the upcoming R2 , so this unifies the design language between the two (and makes it even more impossible to distinguish from the two models at a distance).
Also visible in the photos above is the new front headlight, which has a “stepped” design instead of looking flat like the older one did. These are new LED headlights, though we haven’t gotten a chance to see them in action yet. This Rivianforums thread has more up-close photos of the headlights
New Aero Wheel @RivianTrackr @RivianUpdates pic.twitter.com/UbkyYH8gwf — Kanundrum (@Kanundrum17) May 30, 2024
Lastly, and most exciting to me, are the aerodynamic wheel covers. Aerodynamic wheels can add efficiency gains of 5-10%, especially at high speed , though it depends highly on the wheel and vehicle involved.
Basically, the less air you disturb going around the car, the more aerodynamic it is – and spoked wheels act like four little turbines at each corner of the car, pushing air around and making turbulent air that ruins efficiency. The less you do this, the more efficient your car is.
On an electric car this is particularly important, because people seem to have decided that larger range numbers are automatically better, regardless of if you ever use that range. Buyers will pay thousands of dollars to increase range by 10% – so why not just add some plastic covers to the wheels, at a cost of tens of dollars, in order to save thousands on a bigger battery (that takes more material to build, makes the car heavier, and so on)?
That said, on such a large and not particularly aerodynamic vehicle, we think it will likely not give a full 10% range improvement. But we’ll have to see when the cars hit the road.
But if you’ll excuse my soapbox, if we assume aero wheel covers improve efficiency by an average of 5%, and light duty transport uses ~20% of US energy, then we could reduce total US energy use by 1%, or 40 billion kWh per year, just by equipping every car with different wheel covers. Pretty huge gains for such a small action.
Riviantrackr says that the cover is removable , as we’ve seen with aero covers on other wheels. But it likely has a boring, plain-looking spoked wheel underneath which just looks less interesting than the aero covers anyway (I know some people like that for some strange reason, but I think you all are crazy).
Or, if you’d rather see this rant in meme form:
