In spring 1976, in a southern Wisconsin barn located halfway between their homes in Madison and Milwaukee, a pair of visionaries, Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg, set out to make a business of building bikes of extraordinary artistry. Here, in the geographically convenient town of Waterloo, their dream sparked to life. There were five employees on the payroll when the barn doors opened in 1976. Today, Trek's headquarters is a mile up the road from the original barn, in a much larger facility. Although Trek has outgrown the barn, every bike they make is a testament to Trek's founding principles.

Classic Rock Tee

I did the 7 7's with my sons and some friends recently & when I saw the 7 7's picture on line I thought it would be a great reminder of a good, if taxing day - our weather was terrible! I ordered 4 copies of the picture, one each,& am over the moon with the quality of the picture. I was kept informed regarding a slight delay in delivery & am very happy to recommend Trekni. Brilliant!

The Seven Sevens Mourne Mts Art Print

This print is a must for anyone that loves the Mourne mountains! It has the famous seven sevens and is a great gift, especially for anyone that has ticked them all off ✔️ Delighted with mine 🩶

Excellent quality and fitting, arrived promptly and is so comfortable to wear.Looks well with walking trousers, shorts, jeans and leggings sizing Excellent. Thank you

Classic Blue Tee

Hiking essential! ❤️

Trek NI Mountain Mug

The most comfiest jumper in a lovely colour.

Forest Sweater

What sold me on this sweater was the female-friendly, dropped-shoulder fitting and the slightly cropped length. This means it fits well under jackets and sits nicely around the waist.

The material is unbelievably soft inside and out, and both the ribbed crew neck and cuffs are strong, so I know it'll last.

The slate green colour I chose is muted and flattering, easily fitting in with other items among my walking gear. But, I'm already plotting what other colours to buy!

Women's Dropped Shoulder Slate Green Sweater

Just received my new sweatshirt at the weekend and looks great, and a comfortable fit. I’m looking forward to getting plenty of wear out of it in the mountains.

Classic Stone Sweater

Superb production with outstanding photos of NI scenery. Useful organiser for the office or simply to cheer you up on those rainy days. Also, a great gift for friends who live abroad. That little reminder of the beauty of “home”. I’d highly recommend (it’s not expensive either and for a good cause!)

Trek NI 2023 Charity Calendar

Comfy as it is cool - I absolutely love this sweater. It’s great quality and I love to wear it around London as a reminder of my home in NI 💚 would make a fab Christmas pressie too!

Women's Dropped Shoulder Mint Sweater

This sweater is a great addition to my wardrobe , just perfect for the outdoors or as loungewear. Great quality which is exactly what expected when ordering from Trek NI. I highly recommend 🤩

Organic Cotton Slate Green Sweater

Great piece of kit. Bought it for myself but it is now roaming in the Scottish Highlands with my daughter. Need another one!

Forest Hoodie

Got myself another hoddie 🤗

Classic Black Hoodie

A well-made cap with a good long peak to keep the rain and the sun off my eyes! It's so good, I might have to buy another one!

Classic Six-Panel Cap

Really handy and well set out book. Good descriptions and OSI maps are helpful. Introduces you to plenty of walks for all levels . Definitely recommend for even occasional visitors to the Mournes.

Welcome to The Edge Sports Shop

Simon and Gill opened the doors to the Edge Sports Shop back in 2007 in Cork. It was a small shop specialising in Running, Cycling, Swimming and Triathlon products and advice. We were the first dedicated triathlon shop to open in Ireland. Over the years we have been expanding by constantly listening to our customers and watching the industry for the latest products and stocking them if they measure up. We are proud to continue to be a local business in an age that is seeing huge internet giants with no overheads, contributing nothing to the local economy, disrupting business everywhere. We recognise we are here because of our fantastic customer base and our mission is to always do our very best in an honest manner for our customers and the many local sports clubs that have supported us over the years.

Explore all that is truly Eire—ancient Celtic ruins, pastures speckled with grazing sheep, and the timeless charm of traditional Irish pubs.

There is no better way to experience Ireland's rugged southwestern coast than by bike, and there is always something great to discover. The grandeur of Country Kerry will come alive, from the rugged beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way to the glacier-carved Glencar Valley to the peaks of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks mountain range. Have your camera ready for the unspoiled terrain of the Beara Peninsula, steeped in myths and legends and rich in archaeological history. Then, settle into the warmth of our outstanding accommodations, share in jovial banter over a pint, and absorb the underlying spirit of the enchanting Emerald Isle on your bicycle vacation of a lifetime.

What Guests are Saying

Guides were FANTASTIC. The trip itself was spectacular, one day better than the next. Irish Songs sung by our guide, talk on the history of the Republic and Northern Ireland, the history of Kenmare; made you understand how proud the people are of there country. The rides, the views, were all amazing. Would highly recommend this trip, and these guides made it very special.

John, Oak Lawn IL

two people riding their bikes near sheep through Ireland

This was my 20th trip with Trek Travel and it was one of the best! The scenery was breathtaking, the riding superb, and the meals exquisite. The 26 mile loop we did through the Gap of Dunloe was the most scenic, engaging, and enjoyable ride I have done in many years. I would love to do it again!

Bob, Vero Beach FL

A smiling woman holding a lamb

Well thought out routes, lodging, meals. Terrific guides. Even great weather!

Lone rider summits a mountain pass

There are so many highlights on this trip it would be hard to choose one. The green of Ireland just seems to be greener than any other place on earth. The people of Ireland welcome visitors like they are long lost friends. Cycling the Ring of Kerry area gives you some of the best scenery and views in Ireland-climbing the Gap of Dunloe week in and week out was one of my favorite parts of the trips. I was always ready to resist the urge to eat too many chocolate while visiting Lorge Chocolatier – Handmade Chocolate, and I usually failed at that. Overall, it's hard to describe the feeling of connectedness to the earth and to history while you are in Ireland, but it is a feeling I would suggest you never miss experiencing.

Additional Arrival Information

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Cork Airport (ORK) or Dublin Airport (DUB), and then take a train to Killarney. The train from Cork takes approximately one and a half hours, and from Dublin it takes approximately three and a half hours. Train schedules can be found at www.irishrail.ie . A taxi from Cork Airport to the first night’s hotel, The Dunloe Hotel and Gardens, would cost approximately 150 euros.

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Killarney Station (East Ave, Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Your guides will arrive wearing Trek Travel gear so you can easily identify them. You’ll then shuttle approximately 20 minutes to the trip start. Please have your bike gear packed in a separate bag, as you probably will not be able to check into your rooms prior to your bike ride and will not have easy access to your luggage as your guides ensure it is delivered to the hotel.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, The Dunloe Hotel and Gardens +353 (0)64 664 4111, and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. Additional Details

Know Before You Go!

We want you to be fully prepared for your cycling vacation of a lifetime. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless. Each Trek Travel trip is unique to ensure maximum enjoyment every time.

Your Trip Need to Knows:

  • Road conditions: Little to no traffic on Irish backcountry roads, and when there is they are generally very respectful of cyclists! Road quality can vary – some roads will be in great shape, while others may not be as smooth. Expect wet roads due to rain. And, one should always be ready for sheep crossings.
  • Packing: Layers! Layering is the best way to regulate your body temperature. This tried-and-true strategy is all about slipping layers on and off as your activity level or the weather changes. Rain gear is a must for this trip!
  • Look right and keep left ! In Ireland, you cycle on the left side of the road along with traffic. Extra attention and caution are required as you ride, cross intersections, and enter traffic circles if this is the opposite side of the road that you are accustomed to.
  • Please note that the bikes you will ride on this trip are aluminium frames with mechanical shifting, which differs from our standard fleet. See the Bikes & Guides section for more information.

Before and After Your Trip

Killarney, Ireland

We recommend spending some time in Killarney before your trip. One of the town’s most popular attractions is in fact the town itself. Killarney meaning “church of the sloes”. Killarney is located at the Gateway to Killarney National Parklands. It is the largest town in county Kerry with a population of over 14,000 inhabitants. Although in saying this, the town centre is compact and easily manageable on foot for the best experience with a choice of art galleries, traditional craft shops, elegant boutiques, award-winning restaurants, and lively pubs there is plenty to experience. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

Where to Stay

Killeen House

Championship golf, incredible angling, unparalleled scenery and leisure facilities are all found at the doorstep of this quaint country house. Just a 10-minute drive from the centre of Killarney town and a three-minute drive from Killeen and Mahony’s Point Golf courses, all 23 bedrooms are furnished impeccably, ensuring you will experience comfort like never before. www.killeenhousehotel.com

Loch Lein Country House

A gateway to the Ring of Kerry, and beautifully nestled on the northern shore of Killarney’s great lake, Loch Lein, this is an oasis on the spectacular and famous route. The friendly and informal accommodations provide the ideal location to explore and experience local hills, National parks, world renowned golf courses, and the magic and beauty of the Kerry landscape. www.lochlein.com

The Ross Hotel is a boutique hotel found in the center of the town of Killarney. This hotel boasts design-forward accommodation, providing superb facilities with a touch of Irish luxury and all with a warm, friendly Irish welcome. Enjoy the diverse menu at the onsite restaurant, The Lane, or creative cocktails at the bar. The family-owned Ross Hotel in Killarney is your home away from home. www.theross.com

Dublin, Ireland

While there is an endless amount of things to see in Ireland as a whole, the friendly capital city of Dublin is a destination that can't be missed! Here are but a few suggestions for spending an enjoyable time in this thriving, historical city: spend time listening to live music in the buzzing Temple Bar district; visit Trinity College’s Old Library, which houses the famous Book of Kells; view Ireland’s visual history at the National Photographic Archives; and enjoy distillery tours, such as the Guinness Storehouse and the Old Jameson Distillery. Dublin's dining and entertainment is legendary, from the boozy delights of Temple Bar to more cultured nights at the theater to dining in one of the city's fine eateries including three one-star and three two-star Michelin restaurants, plus a plethora of choices with a Bib-Gourmand designation. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:

Paramount Hotel

This medium-sized hotel is situated in the heart of Temple Bar. The rooms are spacious and carefully decorated with an Art Deco flair. www.paramounthotel.com

Opened in 1997, this boutique hotel in the Temple Bar district boasts ultra-stylist rooms, enhanced with modern undertones and artwork. www.themorgan.com

This hotel is comprised of five Georgian townhouses and is tucked away on a quiet side street, across from the National Museum. It is a short walk away from Dublin’s famous Grafton Street, St. Stephen’s Green, and Temple Bar. Each charming room is large and period-furnished. www.buswells.com

Packing and Weather

Average summer temperatures in Ireland range from the 60s to 70s Fahrenheit (15-26ºC). Always remember that rain is possible at any time of the year–daily Irish weather is very unpredictable and a source of great local entertainment! It’s a good idea to bring a light rain jacket, as well as layers. View our Packing List
