I bet some of you might be wondering what does 3350 stand for in the name? Well, it is the dimension of the wheelbase in mm, and is a naming convention followed by Force Motors for its other models as well. Built on a wheelbase of 3350 mm, Force Traveller 3350 is a D + 9/12/13/14 seater passenger van. It has a GVW of 3965 Kg and is armed with the diesel powered FM 2.6 CR ED engine and generates a maximum power output of 115 HP and a torque of 350 Nm. Force Traveller comes fitted with semi-elliptical leaf springs with telescopic shock absorbers and the engine is mated with G32-5 speed gearbox, thereby delivering both a comfortable and quality ride. With a fuel tank capacity of 70 litres and superior Force Traveller mileage, one can travel miles without refueling.

One of the highest selling model on this wheelbase is Force Traveller 12 seater. Some of the notable features that the Force Traveller 3350 has to offer are a choice of high back and reclining seats in the passenger space, a power steering and an option to mount the air-conditioner unit. Force Traveller 12 seater mileage hovers in the range of 11-14 KMPL depending on road, traffic conditions along with driver's skills. Force Traveller Super 4020 BS6

One of the highest selling model on this platform is Force Traveller 20 seater, though it comes in 19+D configuration as well. Force Traveller Twin Tyre

On the same 4020 wheelbase, the Force Traveller twin tyre variant is also available for sale. Earlier it was widely referred as Force Traveller T2 or Traveller 26. It offers a wider 2225 mm body for enhanced seating space, enhanced shoulder space and suitability for 2x2 seat layout. With a GVW of 5900 Kg and 2596 cc FM 2.6 CR engine, this Force Traveller variant offers a maximum power of 115 HP and a torque of 350 Nm. The max seating capacity on this variant is 25 plus driver.

Force Traveller 3050 BS6

It is the smallest or the 2 window option of Force Tempo Traveller, as is rightly called by layman. It offers comfortable 9 seats but has option of 12 and 13 seats also. Force Traveller 3050 is available in both high roof as well as flat roof option. The BS6 compliant 3050 Force Traveller 13 seater price starts from RS. 11 lakh.

Force Traveller Wider 3350

The Traveller 3350 Wider Body by Force Motors is available in both 12 and 13 seater options.. It is powered by the same FM 2.6 CR ED SCR Technology engine as its counterparts and generates a maximum power of 115 HP and a torque pegged at 350 Nm.

The BS6 compliant 3350 Wider has a GVW of 4125 Kg, overall length, width and height as 5615 mm, 2225 mm and 2670 mm, which is slightly more than its counterparts. The vehicle comes in the 4x2 axle-configuration, has an anti-roll bar, and a pretty decent ground clearance of 200 mm that makes maneuvering bumpy Indian roads a less tedious process.

The Uncertain Future of the Yellow School Bus

Amid driver shortages and a dwindling ridership, the role of the bus is changing.

The yellow school bus has remained remarkably consistent over the past century. But as a smaller share of kids ride the bus, its role is shifting.

A Mixed Legacy

Across county and state lines, school buses are remarkably consistent. The yolky exterior color, called National School Bus Glossy Yellow, has remained the go-to shade since 1939. Buses are outfitted with a pop-out stop sign and vinyl seats, which, in my memory, tend to be ripped up and held together with strips of duct tape. Riding the yellow school bus is a tradition shared by generations of American students—but that experience is less common now than in previous decades.

In 2022, only about a third of students rode the bus to school, down from roughly 37 percent five years before, according to a Washington Post analysis of the National Household Travel Survey . More students are getting dropped off by car or driving to class—a trend that accelerated after the coronavirus pandemic began, especially among the children of college-educated parents.

Many people are nostalgic about the school bus, but its legacy—and present—is mixed. The bus was once a transformative force in American education, enabling a switch from highly local, one-room schoolhouses, Antero Garcia, an education professor at Stanford University, told me. And in the years following Brown v. Board of Education , buses became a potent symbol of desegregation. But for many kids, the bus can be a place of stress. Students may face discipline from drivers (many of whom struggle with low pay and odd working hours) or bullying from peers. Garcia also noted that it can feel like a form of punishment for bus riders to spend hours commuting each day just to get the same educational opportunities as students who can be driven by parents.

The bus is a tool that touches millions of kids’ lives every day, but on the whole, these vehicles have hardly improved over decades—even as the education system flocks to other, new technologies. Its stagnation has come about in part because administrators tend to focus on interventions that improve test scores “rather than a dusty old bus,” Garcia said. He also noted that “there’s an assumption that school buses are for working-class kids, largely kids of color.” (According to the 2017 National Household Travel Survey , 70 percent of students from low-income families ride the school bus, whereas a majority of students from non-low-income families are driven to school in a personal vehicle.)

For years, the school-bus system has struggled to recover from a severe bus-driver shortage : At the start of this past school year, there were about 192,000 drivers—a 15 percent decline from four years earlier. From 2009 to 2019, the number of bus drivers dropped by 22 percent; in that same period, the number of students enrolled in K–12 schools grew by some 1.4 million. Moreover, the school-bus system doesn’t serve all students—a 2020 study of New York City’s school-bus ridership found that Black and Hispanic K–6 students are more likely to attend schools where buses are unavailable.

Still, some school districts are making changes: Efforts to add electric buses to school fleets have gained momentum lately. Some well-meaning educators have tried taking advantage of bus time by giving students more homework—which, Garcia said, “is the last thing kids want.” He wonders if the bus could become a site of enrichment rather than tedium. What if the bus were an opportunity for peer mentoring, for example, or film classes?

The bus is a liminal site: Bus time is part of the school day, but it’s not class time. Students gather together, but they have less structure, and there’s less of a focus on academics. This freedom makes the bus worth looking at in full, as a meaningful, rich space for kids in America.

At least 7 people die when a school bus plunges into a river in northwest Syria

DARKUSH, Syria (AP) — At least seven people drowned and 20 were injured, most of them children, when a school bus skidded off the road and plunged into a river in northwestern Syria on Thursday, emergency responders said.

The accident happened near the town of Darkush, west of the city of Idlib, where the bus plunged into the Orontes River, a local civil defense organization also known as the White Helmets said in a statement.

Rescue teams searched for about six hours for survivors in the cliffside and in the river, it said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the bus to go off the road. Images from the scene showed a steep crag overlooking the riverbed where searchers were scrambling over boulders.

Ahmad Ghandour, a doctor at the hospital in Darkush that received the casualties, said the students and teachers on the bus were from a school for orphans.

It was the latest tragedy to affect an area that has already been hit hard by Syria’s ongoing civil war and by a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and northern Syria last year.

Most of most of the 5.1 million people living in opposition-held northwestern Syria have been internally displaced, sometimes more than once, in the country’s civil war, now in its 14th year, and rely on aid to survive.

Nearly 12,000 TTC workers could walk off the job  Friday at 12:01 a.m. if negotiations between the transit agency and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) 113 don't produce a new contract — which could disrupt travel plans for tens of thousands of commuters.

ATU Local 113 president Marvin Alfred said there hasn't been enough progress on the union's wage, benefit and job security demands, while TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said a deal is possible as long as the parties remain at the bargaining table.

A strike would mean subways, buses and streetcars won't run, but the Wheel-Trans service for people with disabilities would continue to operate.

If you're one of the people who normally takes public transit in Toronto, here is some information to help you plan ahead.

Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency that operates the GO Transit bus and train networks, said in an email it "always has contingency plans in place" in the event of service disruptions.

The agency added that GO trains and the UP Express will continue to operate as normal, and its stations will remain open, but it wouldn't say whether those plans include increasing the frequency of trains and buses.

Durham Region Transit (DRT) said in a news release Tuesday that it "does not anticipate significant impacts to our local transit services," although it is planning to make alternative stop arrangements for its PULSE 900 (Highway 2) and Route 920 services near the Scarborough Town Centre and Centennial College, if required.

"If a disruption occurs, customers who usually transfer to/from TTC services may wish to consider GO Transit options to reach their destinations. DRT does offer connection opportunities to GO Transit train stations and bus stops within Durham Region," the statement said.

Mississauga's MiWay said by email it's also preparing contingency plans for stops it serves that could be affected by a TTC strike, including the Kipling Bus Terminal and Long Branch Bus Loop.

"As part of these plans, we are reviewing possible detour options for routes servicing Kipling Bus Terminal (i.e. Routes 1/1C, 3, 11, 20, 26, 35, 70, 71, 76, 101/101A, 108, & 109) and Long Branch Bus Loop (i.e. Routes 5 & 23)," said Eve Wiggins, director of MiWay Transit, in an email statement.

Kristine Hubbard, operations manager at Beck Taxi, said she expects the company's entire fleet of around 1,300 vehicles to be on the roads. However, she said with demand expected to surge, the company won't be able to guarantee arrival times.

"We'll try to do our best to help, but we are no replacement for TTC," she said.

Beck Taxi has stopped booking scheduled trips for Friday, but customers can still request taxis on-demand by hailing them down on the street, via phone or by using the Beck Taxi app or website . 

"We won't forget about you. We won't overcharge you, but pack your patience and if you don't have to go, you know, don't," she said.

Uber Canada said in a statement that if the strike goes ahead it will use surge pricing, which means prices will increase in response to higher demand, although it will put a cap on prices.

The exact price of each fare will be based on factors such as the length of the trip, the amount of traffic in the area and how many riders are requesting rides versus the number of Uber drivers on the road, the company said.

Uber said it will also offer incentives to its drivers to entice them to increase the number of trips available. 

It recommends riders also use its "group ride" feature to carpool and split fares with friends, or use UberX Share, which pairs different riders together. 

Cycling, walking or driving

Commuters who normally leave their cars at home will likely choose to get behind the wheel and drive to their destinations, which could lead to more congestion than normal . 

The Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) said it encourages anyone driving downtown to visit the Green P website for a list of municipally-run parking locations, including those with electric vehicle charging spots.

Where negotiations stand as potential TTC strike looms

Others may choose to ride their own bikes or to rent one.

Bike Share Toronto has more than 9,000 bikes available at 700-plus stations across the city that are available to rent for short trips. Riders can access these bikes by creating an account through the Bike Share website , mobile app  or at a station kiosk. Pricing options include pay-as-you-go, day passes or annual memberships.

Michael Longfield, executive director of advocacy group Cycle Toronto, said the city's network of bike lanes have expanded rapidly over the past few years, particularly since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"A lot of folks did start dusting their bikes off in the early weeks and months of the pandemic. I'm sure some folks will be tempted to take them out again," Longfield said.

Longfield said it's important to make sure your bike is in working order, so make sure to check the air in your tires, that your brakes work and that your chain is functional and not too rusty.

David Simor, director of the Centre for Active Transportation, said for those whose bikes have been sitting in a garage for the winter or longer, there are lots of bike repair shops to get it fixed up. He also pointed to community bike hubs where cyclists can learn do-it-yourself repairs. The city maintains a list of both here .

Simor pointed to the city's "amazing and under-advertised" multi-use trail and ravine systems .

"It might not be quite as direct as on streets, but certainly very comfortable and really, you know, beautiful and gorgeous to boot at this time of the year," he said.

Finally, Simor said, those who are fortunate to live close to work, grocery stores and other amenities can go for an old-fashioned walk.

"It's actually a really helpful thing for those who need to drive by keeping your car off the road. And also it's great for your mental and physical health," he said.

The airport

Toronto Pearson Airport issued a statement Thursday saying its aware a strike would be a problem for air travellers.

It said some 4,700 people per day use the TTC to get to and from the airport via the 900 Airport Express route that runs from Kipling Station.

It urged those travellers to instead consider the UP Express, taxis or other ride-hailing services or a GO bus (routes 40 and 94 service the airport).  

Elementary school students at Toronto's public and Catholic school boards won't attend class Friday due to a scheduled PA Day, but high schools will be open for a regular school day.

The Toronto District School Board told parents and caregivers Wednesday that school buses will operate normally for secondary school students, but warned of possible delays due to increased traffic.

"All other students should explore alternate methods of transportation including carpooling or biking and/or walking in order to get to school," the note said.

"Thank you for your understanding as we all prepare for what could be a challenging time to get around in our city."
