And, Webb Simpson won THE PLAYERS 2018 Championship with the new higher launching Tour IZ 5X!

The Tour AD DI model is the first Graphite Design shaft design that was integrated with Toray Company’s original NANOALLOY material technology in the tip section of the shaft. This material technology has now come to be known as “DI Technology”. This unique material technology promotes additionally shaft stability without the loss of feel and allows the player to create greater club head speed and thus greater ball speed while still providing exceptional feel and control.

Choosing the Right Graphite Design Tour AD Shaft

Choosing the Right Graphite Design Tour AD Shaft

By DanSueltz August 9th, 2017

Graphite Design Tour AD shafts  have won 32 global professional tournaments in 2017, with over half of those being won with the DI, “Deep Impact” model.  The winners of the 2017 World Golf Championship – Bridgestone Invitational, Senior Open Championship both played the DI in their drivers and in some cases fairway woods and hybrids.  The winner of the Ricoh Women’s Open Championship played a Tour AD GP in her driver

Shaft Test: Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP versus the famous Tour AD-DI

tour ad shaft swing speed

With a similar profile to the company’s famous Tour AD-DI shaft, and a few new technologies for a slightly different ball flight, Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP shaft will surely entice a legion of high-spin golfers.

The new shafts are made for a mid launch and low spin rates, according to Graphite Design’s website, while the Tour AD-DI shafts are made for mid/high to high launch angles and low to low/mid spin rates. Certainly, they are in the same wheelhouse, but for anyone looking to create a slightly more penetrating ball flight with lower launch and lower spin, the new shaft could be their winning ticket.

Tour_AD_TP_Hero

To accomplish its performance, the AD-TP shafts are made with a faster taper rate from the lower-mid section to the tip of the shaft, and use an all-new graphite material from Toray Industries called T1100G carbon fiber pre-preg. They also use Toray’s Nanoalloy technology in the tip section, which was first introduced in Graphite Design’s Tour AD-DI. It help golfers gain more control of the club face by resisting torque.  Read more about the Tour AD-TP shaft’s tech here .

Here’s the bend profile of the Tour AD-TP shafts, according to Graphite Design’s website:

GraphiteDesignTourADshafts

And here’s how the Tour AD-TP shafts stack up versus the other Tour AD shafts:

Screen Shot 2016-10-26 at 12.13.37 PM

As you can see, the Tour AD-TP (top row) compared to the Tour AD-DI (bottom row) will have a firmer mid and butt section, but will also have the familiar stiff tip section.

Personally, I’ve tested just about every new mainstream driver shaft that’s come out in the past three years, and I just haven’t been able to find something that matches my swing like the Tour AD-DI. As a golfer who fights a nasty hook and too much spin, it’s the stiffness and stability of the tip of the shaft that makes me comfortable enough to “go at it.” I’m also a Mets fan, so I like the orange color.

Tour_AD-DI_ORange

But for whatever reason, my golfing brain finds other shafts to load and unload way differently, either forcing me to flip or block drives, leading to tragic results. So although I often test the latest and greatest golf shafts for you, the GolfWRX readers, I’ve all but given up on other shafts making it into my gamer driver. Yes, other shafts have given me “more optimal” numbers in a Trackman environment, but there’s nothing optimal about feeling like you’re going to duck hook the ball off the planet with OB stakes left.

When Graphite Design announced a new shaft with a similar profile that’s made to create a slightly more penetrating trajectory, however, I’ll admit I was excited to try it. Let’s see how the numbers played out.

The Numbers

AD_TP_DI_7X

I tested my Tour AD-DI gamer shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) against a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, untipped) and a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) in a TaylorMade M1 460 head (10.5 degrees) set to neutral. Yes, I have a bit more swing speed in the tank than displayed below, but it’s also late October and I don’t want to have a blown out back all winter. I conducted my testing at the Launch Pad at Carl’s Golfland on TrackMan 4 using premium golf balls.

GDDriverShafts20162_arrows

Magenta = Tour AD-TP (tipped 1 inch)

Observations

— Shots with the un-tipped shaft trended to the right. It felt like the face was opening on the downswing and I couldn’t turn my shots over. The data solidifies for me that performance matches my feel, and that I do indeed need a tipped shaft.

— The AD-DI shaft had the highest spin (2953 rpm), highest landing angle, most height (122.1 feet) and launched the highest (13.7 degrees).

— The AD-TP (tipped 1 inch) carried 4.9 yards shorter than the Tour AD-DI, but went 3.7 yards longer in total. This shows how much more penetrating the ball flight with a AD-TP shaft can be.

— Spin rate dropped from 2953 rpm with the Tour AD-DI (tipped 1 inch) to 2460 rpm with the AD-TP (tipped 1 inch).

— With nearly identical clubhead speed, ball speed and smash factors, it’s clear the Tour AD-TP was offering better numbers and tighter dispersion for me.

The Takeaway

Accuracy_and_Distance

The Graphite Design Tour AD-TP shaft is currently selling for $500 at retail. Based on the improvement I saw in my numbers, I would say that the new shaft is worth the value for my swing. The profile and new materials are a match for me in regards to ball flight characteristics and feel. I would describe the feel as “smooth-stiff, with a stable tip.”

Of course, it’s important to undergo a proper fitting, as you saw that the un-tipped version of the Tour AD-GP shaft was giving me fits. But, if you’re like me and struggle with high spin rates and inconsistency, the Tour AD-TP shaft may help you find more accuracy… and a bit more distance, too.

Andrew, the author of this review, comments about hitting duck hooks because that is his miss when he uses a shaft that doesn’t “fit” his swing style. It is the same issue I fight. The fact he has peppered the right side of the grid would be comforting for him. All in all, Andrew fits the new TP shaft pretty well.

Some shafts get progressively weaker to the tip (Rogue, AD-DI), many increase stiffness into the tip (most other GD tour AD models, Kuro Kage) To assume all shafts need to be tipped just seems uninformed. Tipping off stiffness in a shaft like a AD-BB is just going to lower the kick point and give you a softer tip; exact opposite of tipping a AD-DI.

Oct 30, 2016 at 11:05 pm

Wow the author tried really hard to say this is better. The chart looks pretty much the same for all three shafts as far as landing zone. Just one leftward (I’m guess more of a hook) shot skewed the oval left. Unless he’s a left hander, none of his shots were hooks, rather either push or slices. Strange for him to say that he’s fighting a hook when he didn’t hit any.

The real difference does seem to be one offering more roll and one more carry due to launch angle changes I’m guessing due to the stiffer mid and butt sections. Worth it? The argument seems a bit thin.

Product Reviews

Titleist vokey wedgeworks l grind review – club junkie reviews.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Titleist Vokey wedges might offer golfers the widest range of sole options to suit any swing type, condition, or shot type out there. Countless professionals use Vokey wedges each week and if you look in the bags at local courses you will see a lot of them in play there as well. While sole options are plentiful, Vokey just released another option, the L grind, for their 58 and 60-degree lob wedges. Listen to the full review, in-depth, on the Club Junkie podcast below or on any podcast platform.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Vokey’s L Grind is a low bounce, 4-degree grind that allows the leading edge to get close to the ground while still offering trailing edge, heel, and toe relief. This sole allows you to get the leading edge of the wedge down on the turf for shots of tight and firm lies. Relief on the wedge is going to allow the player to open the face without that leading edge coming up off the turf so you can hit higher lofted shots easily. This L Grind is only available in Vokey’s Raw finish, so the wedge will rust over time and use.

tour ad shaft swing speed

When you open the box on a Raw Vokey, it is always hard to tell if it is a Tour Chrome as the polish to the raw metal looks that good. Just holding the club in my hand, the L Grind looks a lot like an M Grind with the way they shaped the sole. I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous taking out a wedge with 4 degrees of bounce as I play in Metro Detroit and we rarely find tight and firm lies here. Around our greens is soft and lush with deep rough and bunkers with firmer sand. I tend to get a little steep with my wedges and have always used higher-bounce wedges. This year I was fit into SM10 50.12F, 56.14F, and 60.10S wedges. I thought this L grind was light years from my 60.10S, so I proceeded with caution and took it straight to the course. I had a 58.04L sent to me so I switched up my wedge setup to accommodate that.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Out on the course, I was shocked by the first shot with the 58.04L as it sped through the deep rough, popped the ball in the air, and plopped it into the green. I was short-sided and the ball released past the whole as I expected it to, resting about 8ft away for par. Shots out of the rough, whether partial or closer to full, were easy and drama-free. The L Grind glided through the deeper grass with little extra effort and faster than my S Grind. I rarely got to deep and slid under the ball, but when that did happen the ball came out with some spin and control, holding the green.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Off the fairway is where the L Grind really shined for me as I used it for more shots than I normally would have. I am usually a sand wedge player around the green unless I have to go to the lob for a short sided shot or to carry a bunker. Off the fairway you could just thump the sole of the wedge into the turf and it would quickly slide through, producing a shallower divot than I expected. The divot was honestly not much deeper or bigger than what I see with my 56.14F sand wedge. After the first shot I thought I just hit a good one and I would see additional digging soon, but that wasn’t the case. Partial shots from right off the green to about 40 yards offered great turf interaction. Opening the face was easy and the leading edge staying down gave a poor wedge player confidence to swing a little faster and hit a more solid shot.

Spin, as you would expect from a Vokey wedge, was high and predictable with shots checking up hard upon landing. I really liked playing the ball back in my stance a touch and pressing the wedge forward to hit a low, high spin, shot that checked up hard and then released towards the hole. Out of the trap the L Grind plays well as you can see a good amount of dynamic bounce when you open the face. The float wasn’t as good as my S Grind and if you hit the L Grind fat you could definitely come up short, but the L was very capable out of the firmer traps here.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Overall, the L Grind is a really solid option that is more versatile than its 4-degree bounce description. Players who play in softer conditions or have steeper swings don’t have to shy away from this wedge as I think it plays like a higher bounce sole. I don’t think there is a shot in the book that you can’t hit with this wedge, it is built to do it all.

Matt Fitzpatrick makes switch to Titleist T100 ‘Fitz grind’ irons

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt of an article our Andrew Tursky filed for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Read the full piece here.

After testing Ping’s Blueprint S irons following the 2023 Ryder Cup, however, Fitzpatrick finally made an iron switch in 2024.

Then, at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, Fitzpatrick switched from a Titleist Pro V1x 2019 golf ball into a newer 2021 Pro V1x, and at the U.S. Open last week, Fitzpatrick made a drastic iron change into a set of Titleist T100 irons.

tour ad shaft swing speed

The reason for the major switch-ups?

“To me, I just needed a little bit more flight and a little bit more spin, and the combination of the ball and the irons did that for me,” Fitzpatrick said on Monday of the Travelers Championship.

The Titleist T100 irons have a Tour-inspired, compact head shape at address, but with a cavity-back construction and added Tungsten in the heads for improved forgiveness and launch. Fitzpatrick’s irons are especially unique, though, because they come with a special grind on the leading edge that helps Fitzpatrick achieve the turf interaction, spin and height that he wants.

Patrick Cantlay has a similar leading edge grind on his Titleist AP2 718 irons, but Fitzpatrick assured GolfWRX.com on Tuesday that his is different. He dubbed it, the “Fitz grind.”

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft

We usually try to reserve judgment of a shaft until later in the review.

But this time, we’re breaking character by claiming in the introduction that the Graphite Design Tour AD DI is a truly remarkable shaft.

We’ll reserve the details for later in the review but we will say that we can clearly see why some of the most prolific Tour Pros game these shafts.

If you haven’t considered the Graphite Design Tour AD DI shaft for your woods you need to read this review and then go get a fitting.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Overview

Let’s start with looks.

It appears as though Graphite design puts all their time and effort into engineering and saves money on their design department.

The shaft, which is available in a black or orange color scheme, looks busy. The midsection is lousy with logos and lettering.

We prefer the black and white finish to the gaudy orange and white color scheme.

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is available in a dizzying array of weights and flexes.

The weight ranges from 54g to 97g. Graphite Design seemingly wanted to appeal to as many golfers as possible and they have succeeded.

No matter what your swing speed is, you can pick up a Graphite Design Tour AD DI shaft in a weight that works for you.

The feel of this shaft is definitely active. The kick point is advertised as mid; but we would actually say that it is a bit closer to the butt than true mid.

Why is the  Graphite Design Tour AD DI So Popular?

When a shaft is used by players like Tiger Woods, it’s going to get some attention.

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI has been used by some of the biggest names in golf; but there are weights and flexes for us mortals too.

How Does the Graphite Design Tour AD DI Perform?

Depending on which weight class you choose, you’re either going to get a high or mid launch from this shaft.

The amazing thing about it though is that even the lightest version of the Graphite Design Tour AD DI can produce low spin rates.

In our test session, we never saw the spin rates exceed 2000 RPM’s. For the most part, spin was relegated to the 1800-1900 RPM range.

The stiff tip section also kept dispersion very tight. Our offline divergence never drifted into the double-digit (yards) range.

Carry distance was good too. After three swings each, we were averaging 268.8 yards. The Graphite Design Tour AD DI ticked nearly all of the boxes for us.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

Lite flex is suitable for 71-85 MPH swingers.

Regular flex is good for 86-95 MPH swingers. Players in the 92-98 MPH range should check out the Graphite Design Tour AD DI in stiff/regular flex.

Stiff flex may be suitable for players in the 96-105 MPH range. Extra stiff is for players in the 100-105 MPH range. Tour extra stiff should work for players swinging their driver 110+ MPH.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is available in a wide variety of weights.

If you’re in the 70-85 MPH swing speed range, you’re probably going to want to stay between 54 and 64 grams.

86-95 MPH swingers will want to stay within the 75-85 gram weight class. For 96+ MPH swingers, there is the 86-97 gram weight class.

Why is it So Good?

 Design Tour AD DI Shaft1

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is a rare combination of active profile, long carry distance, low spin rates and tight dispersion.

This is a combination that works for almost every kind of player.

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is an amazing shaft because it will improve your drive distance while delivering a very smooth, satisfying feel.

And while it makes it easy to take your most powerful swing, it keeps the ball on-line.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI First Impressions

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft2

Our first impression of the Graphite Design Tour AD DI was that it felt very smooth.

While we wouldn’t say it is as smooth as the Mitsubishi Tensei shafts, it is still amazingly fluid for having such an active profile.

Key Features & Performance

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI utilizes aerospace-grade, high modulus 50-ton carbon fiber in order to stiffen the tip section.

While the mid and butt sections are of medium stiffness, the tip is stiff in order to promote acute club head control.

This is part of what produces such tight shot dispersion.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Driver Review

When plugged into our driver, the Graphite Design Tour AD DI felt incredibly easy and smooth to swing.

It can stand up to a really heavy load and the release feels phenomenally fluid. The dispersion is tight enough to keep you out of the trees but there is also some workability for better players.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Fairway Wood Review

When we plugged the Graphite Design Tour AD DI into a 3-wood, we still got tight dispersion whether we were swinging from the box or off the deck.

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Pros & Cons

  • Wide variety of weights
  • Good for fast or slow swingers
  • Tight dispersion
  • Mid/high launch
  • It’s very expensive

Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft

Overall Score: 98/100

Who Should Buy it?

Firstly, you’ll need deep pockets to score the Graphite Design Tour AD DI.

We’ve not seen it retail for any less than $200 (new). But in this case, you get what you pay for. The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is a phenomenal shaft that can work for all swing speeds and tempos.

Any Idea How the new GD Tour AD VF Shafts Compare to Say a Ventus Black Velocore?

I see that the new Graphite Design Tour AD VF shafts are now out and El Tigre has now been spotted with one in the new TaylorMade driver he is testing before getting going for the year in his Hero Challenge tournament.

Since this shaft is now declared as more "White Board like" than the original shaft he was using.  (The Tour AD DI which made no sense to me with the mid launch and spin of it.)  How does this new Graphite Design Tour AD VF shaft compare to say a Ventus Black Velocore from Fujikura?  I like the Ventus Black and I use a 6 S (tipped 1/2" in my driver.)  I was using a Tour AD VC 6 X (untipped) in my driver previously.  I had to use the Tour AD VC shaft in an X flex, because it seemed a bit soft in the S flex.  I have hit both the Ventus Black and a Tour AD VC in my Stealth head and a Stealth 2 head in a fitting this past summer.  (Didn't see enough improvement to change heads.) However, BOTH of those shafts were within a yard of eachother and spin was very close.  I love the smooth feel of the Graphite Design shafts and would love to get a GD shaft that felt a bit stiffer, reduced spin, and wasn't a piece of rebar in feel.

I would be interested in trying a Tour AD VF, provided that it is somewhat close to the Ventus Black Velocore.  Or someone could tell me what it is somewhat close to?

I realize this is somewhat subjective and opinionated, but I ask anyway...  because its interesting to see the discussion.   😁

I tend to have a quick and aggressive transition. I'll let you know how the VF 5S works out. But FYI, I did not like the TR Blue 6S. the mid-tip section was too soft for my transition.

Your sentiments are similar to how the shafts feel to me. I’ve been gaming the Ventus Black 6S at 45.25 untipped in a 9.0 SIM2 head lofted up one setting to 9.75 that swing weights to about D3.5 since both came out. I’m working on a setup with the TSR3 9.0 head that has a bit more feel in loading and testing the length at Titleist standard length of 45.5 for a bit more swing speed and I am using a 6g weight (-2g from standard) to drop the swing weight a bit to around D3.5 to D4, which I’m more comfortable with. I’ve been testing the Ventus TR Blue 6S untipped at 45.5 playing at D3.75 and it’s a bit too soft for me in the lower mid section. I feel like I can lose the head sometimes especially when I load the shaft. But I do get really good ball speeds and carry when swung right. I’ve also been testing the TR Black in 5S also untipped at 45.5 playing at D 3.75. I prefer the profile of this shaft but can spin it a bit too much on certain shots when I go after one. Both TR shafts has that sharp/brittle feedback feel like the Tensei shafts, which I can get used to but it’s not my preference. I’m picking up a VF 6S and will report back after I get some range and on course testing.

- Been playing Ventus Black 6S since it came out in a SIM 2 9.0 head lofted to 9.75 playing at 45.25 untipped which had a swing weight of D3.5.

- Graphite Design VF set up: 6S in a TSR3 9.0 head with 6g weight (-2) at 9.0 degrees playing at 45.5 untipped and swing weight of D4.25.

The SIM head has the CG higher in the head, and made it harder to load the shaft and I didn't get great ball speeds. It has a much better load in a Stealth 2 Plus head, but I couldn't get along with the head. So I wanted to do a new driver build for better ball speeds. My VF and TSR3 set up is much easier to swing and I'm getting really good ball speed. You can feel the flex profile difference, the Black being stiff throughout, while the VF gradually gets stiffer and is softer in the handle and mid section vs Black. I gamed the GP shaft and loved that feel and like you wanted to get back to a GD shaft for the feel but has the very tip stiff shaft that creates the stability that made the Ventus popular and the VF has it. I've only hit it in a sim. I'll see how it preforms for me on the course this weekend.

Any updates? Seems we have similar views on clubs and shafts. The VF has really peaked my interest, and I’m debating 5S or 6S in my TSR2 head. Would probably do 5S with a little tipping.

The VF 6S performed great on course. But I think that because I've been playing 45.25 for the last 10 years, my timing is off a bit with the 6S at 45.5 even with a 6g (-2) head weight to counter the heavier swing weight the VF 6S creates. But playing a lighter shaft, the Ventus TR Black 5S at 45.5 with the 6g (-2) head weight, does make me feel more comfortable with swinging the club. I just actually received the VF 5S that I will probably test first at 45.75 untipped in a standard Qi10 head when it comes out on Feb 2. FYI, Sydney Golf Tech on Youtube does good reviews on shafts and has similar sentiments to me as well. The only difference in feel I have from him is that I think I'm a bit quicker in the transition and like loading a bit faster — he likes the TR Blue but I'm not a fan of it because I feel like at times I the mid-tip section is a bit too soft for me when I get a bit quick.

I saw that review. Between that one and the Club Champion review with Ian, it seems like the 5s might work out well. I’m planning on 45.5” but may cut down 1/4” to my usual playing length. I don’t “need” more distance, but if I can find more distance without the risk of going OB it’ll be a winner!

Same. With my Ventus Black 6S at 45.25 in the SIM2 head, I know I was leaving some distance on the table but even on a not so great swing, the dispersion was tight, but it also felt like I had to keep my speed up, which caused consistency issues. For my next driver set up, I know there will be a bit of a trade off with more distance at the expense of dispersion (Ian got much better ball speed with the 5S but on his recent course vlog, Chasing Red & Breaking Par Consistently, he played the VF in 6X, because it kept his dispersion tight) but it would allow me to swing easier without losing distance, and therefore be more consistent, given that I play about once a week, don't practice, and I'm a parking lot to first tee player. At least that's my theory.

Been playing the Kaili White two different times with good success, floated GD XC 5s, really liked the TR Blue 6s, but a VF 5s sounds interesting. At 100 SS and aggressive load, would a VF 5s be a good try?

Only experience I have with both was a Ventus Black in a 6X TSR4 and a TSR2+ with a VF8X in it so hard to compare apples to apples. Feel wise the black you really have to go after but the VF was more lively to me kinda reminded me of the old whiteboard where it’s very stiff thru out the whole swing but not hard to load.

Hit the VF5S totday in a TSR2, D4.  had some spinny numbers and hodge-podge of left and rights.  I'll admit, it felt great.  Now I need to dial in the dispersion with either different head, or maybe the 6S.  Fitting on Tuesday to see what happens.  Numbers from e GC Quad.

Great shaft. But I went with the Ventus Black 6S at 45.25 in a 9 degree Qi10 LS head set one click higher to 9.75. This was just the optimal set up for me. I could have easily game the 5S but I've been playing the Black 6S since it came out so I probably felt more comfortable with the shaft and had better timing and felt like I was more accurate. My friend has my VF 5S shaft now and he's hitting it well.

Tour AD TP Shafts

tour ad shaft swing speed

Designed and manufactured at the Graphite Design Japan factory headquarters, the Tour AD TP wood shaft is available in 40g R2, R1 and S flex, 50g R2, R1 and S flex, 60g SR, S, X and TX flex, 70g S, X and TX flex and 80g S and X flex.

The Tour AD TP , like all of the premium Tour AD wood shafts, utilizes premium, aerospace quality 50t carbon-fiber materials in order to deliver the best feeling and performing shaft available to golfers.

Designed around new tooling, the Tour AD TP utilizes a technology called F ast T aper T echnology or “ FTT” .  This technology incorporates a faster taper rate from the lower mid-section to the tip of the shaft than previous Tour AD wood shaft models.  The Fast Taper Technology provides the overall feeling of greater club head control at impact and an increase in club head speed through the swing.

The Tour AD TP shaft has a medium stiffness starting at the handle thru the mid-section of the shaft and a stiff tip profile to promote a mid/high launch condition and low spin.  The new Tour AD TP also utilizes TORAYCA ® T1100G carbon-fiber pre-preg with NANOALLOY ® technology in the tip section of the shaft for additional shaft stability, exceptional feel and precise ball control.

During independent robotic golf club testing, the new Tour AD TP-6 Stiff Flex shaft gained +3.5 yards in Carry Distance and +3.8 yards in Total Distance while maintaining tight dispersion rates vs. comparable Tour AD 65g wood shaft models.

Make a change in your Driver or Fairway metal wood today to the same shaft that the professionals use, the new “ T our P roven” Tour AD TP model of premium Graphite Design graphite golf shafts with FTT – F ast T aper T echnology.

Revolutionary technology, design and the most advanced materials are trademarks in all Graphite Design shafts, resulting in the highest quality premium golf shafts on the market today. Validating the company’s “Tour AD” logo, all of Graphite Design’s Tour proven shafts are specifically designed to promote a gain in A ccuracy and D istance.

Tour AD IZ shafts specs

Note: The Tour AD IZ shafts come in a limited range of flex options, but the mid-to-tipped bend profile and tip stiffness can be customized for specific swing characteristics. Additionally, the recommended grip is a suggestion and golfers may prefer different grips based on personal preference.

Comparison of Tour AD DI and IZ shafts:

When it comes to golf shafts, the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts are two popular options from Graphite Design that offer different characteristics for different types of golfers. Here’s a comparison of these two shafts:

Similarities between Tour AD DI and IZ shafts:

  • Both the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts are made from high-modulus carbon fiber materials, which provide excellent strength, stability, and responsiveness.
  • Both shafts are available in a limited range of flex options (regular, stiff, extra stiff, and XX) and come in a standard length of 46 inches.
  • Both shafts have a butt diameter of 0.600 inches and a tip diameter of 0.335 inches.
  • Both shafts are designed to deliver maximum energy transfer from the golfer’s swing to the golf ball, resulting in increased distance and accuracy.

Differences between Tour AD DI and IZ shafts:

  • The Tour AD DI shafts have a mid bend point with a stiff tip section, while the Tour AD IZ shafts have a mid-to-tipped bend profile with a stiff tip section. This makes the Tour AD DI shafts more suitable for golfers who want a mid-high launch with low spin, while the Tour AD IZ shafts are better for golfers who need a low launch with low spin.
  • The torque values of the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts differ. The Tour AD DI shafts have a torque range of 3.0-1.6 degrees, while the Tour AD IZ shafts have a torque range of 3.6-2.6 degrees. This makes the Tour AD DI shafts more stable and less prone to twisting during the swing, while the Tour AD IZ shafts offer more feel and feedback.
  • The weight ranges of the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts also differ. The Tour AD DI shafts weigh between 50-80 grams, while the Tour AD IZ shafts weigh between 40-80 grams. This makes the Tour AD IZ shafts more suitable for golfers with moderate to fast swing speeds, while the Tour AD DI shafts are better for golfers with slower swing speeds.

Which shaft is better for which type of golfer?

Choosing between the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts depends on a golfer’s swing characteristics and personal preferences.

The Tour AD DI shafts are better suited for golfers with slower swing speeds who need help achieving a mid-high launch with low spin.

The Tour AD IZ shafts, on the other hand, are ideal for golfers with moderate to fast swing speeds who require a low launch with low spin.

Performance differences between Tour AD DI and IZ shafts:

The Tour AD DI and IZ shafts perform differently on the course due to their different characteristics. The Tour AD DI shafts tend to produce a mid-high launch with low spin, resulting in a more penetrating ball flight and increased distance. The Tour AD IZ shafts, on the other hand, deliver a low launch with low spin, which provides a flatter ball flight and increased roll out.

How Tour AD DI and IZ shafts affect ball flight and spin:

The Tour AD DI shafts produce a mid-high launch with low spin, which makes them suitable for golfers who need help achieving a more penetrating ball flight. The Tour AD IZ shafts, on the other hand, deliver a low launch with low spin, resulting in a flatter ball flight and increased roll out.

Which shaft is more forgiving on off-center hits?

Both the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts offer forgiveness on off-center hits, but the Tour AD DI shafts are

slightly more forgiving due to their mid bend point and stiffer tip section. This helps to reduce the amount of twisting or bending that occurs on off-center hits, resulting in more consistent ball flight and accuracy. However, the Tour AD IZ shafts still offer a good level of forgiveness on off-center hits, thanks to their high-modulus carbon fiber materials and stiff tip section.

In conclusion, the Tour AD DI and IZ shafts are two excellent options for golfers looking to improve their performance on the course. The Tour AD DI shafts offer a mid-high launch with low spin, making them ideal for golfers with slower swing speeds, while the Tour AD IZ shafts provide a low launch with low spin, which is better suited for golfers with moderate to fast swing speeds. Ultimately, choosing between these two shafts comes down to a golfer’s personal preference, swing characteristics, and the type of ball flight they are looking to achieve.

Graphite Design Tour AD UB Shaft Review

More in reviews:.

tour ad shaft swing speed

50 Words or Less

The Graphite Design Tour AD UB has a powerful kick and a feel similar to the Tour AD DI.  Very easy to turn over.  Highly consistent feel.

Check out the low launch, low spin Tour AD VF HERE

tour ad shaft swing speed

Introduction

Though it’s one of the oldest shafts in their catalog, the Graphite Design Tour AD DI continues to be a favorite and a winner throughout golf [review HERE ].  In fact, as of this publication, it’s the driver shaft of the reigning Masters champion.  With so much success, it makes sense that Graphite Design would try to emulate the AD DI in their newer offerings, which they’ve done with the Tour AD UB.

tour ad shaft swing speed

The Graphite Design Tour AD UB sticks with the tried and true aesthetic of the Tour AD series but with one of the series’s bolder color choices.  The upper portion of the shaft is a very attractive blue that I can best describe as a dark turquoise .  Just below the branding, that shifts to silver for a less distracting look at address.

Branding on the Tour AD UB is limited to the familiar logos below the grip.  Should you install this shaft logo down, the only graphics you’ll see are the black rings near the middle.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Like most golfers, the first thing I do when I get a new shaft in hand is give it the wiggle test.  I’ve been testing a lot of low launch, low spin shafts lately, so the big response from the Tour AD UB was a bit of a shock.  I felt substantial movement in the lower half of the shaft.

When I started swinging the Tour AD UB, it put a big smile on my face as it brought back memories of the Tour AD DI.  This shaft has a pronounced kick starting in the middle of the shaft and working down.  Every swing feels effortlessly powerful .  The tip section feels fairly stout but not rock hard.

Graphite Design rates all their shafts somewhere between “Very Stiff” and “Soft” in each section.  The Tour AD UB is rated Medium+, Medium+, Stiff+ from butt to tip.  This is very similar to the Tour AD DI which is Medium, Medium, Stiff.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Performance

The term “one-trick pony” is often used as a pejorative, but it doesn’t have to be if that one trick is really good.  For me, the Graphite Design Tour AD UB had one primary function: high, powerful draws .  I think most golfers would agree that’s a good trick.  With this shaft, I could “turn off” all conscious control of my swing and know the ball wouldn’t go right.  I could hit a straight shot with a little effort, but moving it right required a Bubba-like move.

Another thing that I noticed about the Tour AD UB is that it felt and performed very similarly regardless of how hard I swung .  For players who are trying not to swing all-out, this is an amazing feature.  For me, the amount of kick kept me from going 110% because of a fear of the hook, but that’s a fitting issue/personal hang up.

In testing the Tour AD UB on my Foresight GCQuad , I was very impressed by the launch angle.  Looking at the shot shape alone, I was expecting the ball to come out fairly low.  However, I was getting high launch that kept my carry distance very near optimal .

tour ad shaft swing speed

Finally, in looking over Graphite Design’s website, I noticed something very interesting.  Despite the feel similarities between the AD DI and the AD UB, Graphite Design places the performance of the AD UB nearest the Tour AD HD [review HERE ].  For comparison, the AD HD is rated Firm, Firm, Firm+ which is substantially different than either DI or UB.  All of this to say, it’s critical to test things for yourself and get fit.   I find Graphite Design’s feel rating to map well against my feel, but you may not.

The Graphite Design Tour AD UB is available in weights ranging from 40 grams to 80 grams .  Lite and Regular flexes are offered in the 40 and 50 gram versions.  Stiff flex is available in every weight.  Stiff-Regular is offered only at 60 grams.  X-Stiff is available at 50, 60, 70, and 80 grams with a Tour X-Stiff version at 60 and 70 grams.

tour ad shaft swing speed

Players who want something different than the flood of “low/low” shafts should enjoy the Graphite Design Tour AD UB.  This shaft can help take your tee shots “Up and Beyond” with a strong, active feel reminiscent of Graphite Design’s most successful model and very consistent performance.

Been hoping you’d review the UB! I’m going to spend some time with this shaft this year. Testing so far, I’ve found it launches a little lower for me than the HD, and it feels more like a cousin of the DI. (The DI 7X is in my 3 wood forever. It’s perfect. Too high and spinny for a driver, but absolutely perfect in a fairway wood.)

I’m just curious, generally speaking, where would you say the Diamana TB sits relative to the Graphite Design lineup? It seems to me it has launch and spin characteristics roughly in the same ballpark as the UB and HD, but is more smooth vs. the really strong kick I get out of the HD. But they only had the TB in a TX, not an X, available when I tested it, so it wasn’t really apples to apples and I’m wondering whether it’s worth trying again.

' src=

I’ve never run the TB head to head with any Graphite Design where I could make a really sound comparison.

' src=

So, I have a friend in Paris and he has or gets everything Graphite Design. I have wanted to try this shaft since I heard of it. So, he comes to visit and voila here we go. I had access to it over the last two days and played 18 holes with it in a 9* M6 – D today. I overswung one time and I hit a ridiculous high draw (I never play a draw) however the rest of the day I hit this lower than low and far especially into the wind.

I trust you Matt and I understand what you have to say about this shaft vs. as I experienced it. My current driver is a 9* TS3 (or a SIM 9* with the same shaft (All three of these shafts 60 gm) the TENSEI Orange Pro K – which happens to really be the shaft for me in my fw woods (70g version) and the white is OK.

Comparing AD DI . AD UB , Orange Pro and White pro the feel of a kick is (greatest to lowest) ADUB, ADDI, Orange then white, correct? Otherwise, these four shafts are pretty much all similar gross descriptions, Y or N?

My desire is low launch, low flight enough spin (1800-2000) to keep the ball in the air and better performance into the wind

I understand the differences in a day vs. a fitting, but just want to know if I understand this group well, all else being equal. If you say I dunno, depends on the combo – that’s Ok.

I guess I need to try the 1K series as well … your 1K White review sounds delish

I would not put the Orange and White in the same category as DI and UB, but, because everything is personal, it’s entirely possible that some people would get similar performance from all four.

I found the differences in characteristics you described vs. the function I experienced with the UB to be jarring.

I’m always a bit dismayed by “fittings” as I see people I play with (Their misfortune to have very deep pockets) frequently playing clubs they have no business playing after a few weeks of actually playing them. I am suspicious of the swing one hits in a bay after 50-100 swings not being the one taken to the course, and as I like to say “If you hit ten drivers in a row, you are lying 19” (Meaning it never happens on the course) and is non-representative.

I have personally found iron shafts far more consistent across brands than woods/hybrids but especially driver shafts. UB is so new as to be nearly impossible to try in a fitting, I’m going to try to get access to a Trackman this week before he goes back, I have never seen able to hit such a consistent, low boring trajectory through the wind. Ever. I play continuously in the wind and need that shot.

Cheers, I do appreciate all your efforts.

' src=

Coming off of 2 major surgeries since November, I had not been cleared to swing away until today. I hit several different drivers with different shafts. While my swing speed is down to only 100mph, the callaway Rogue Max D with this shaft was by far the easiest to swing. It was effortless and incredibly accurate, and it launched mid/high as well. I’m quite intrigued with this shaft as I look for a driver to play until my speed comes back.

' src=

Great Review. Have you ventured into reviewing these premium shafts in the fairway woods? I’ve read a few of your reviews and I’ve seen comments of people using one flex in the driver and another flex in the woods. I ask because I’ve squared in my driver shaft and swing well with an x and I’m losing balls to the right with the 3 wood.

3 wood is S flex.

No, we do all our shaft testing with drivers.

' src=

Thanks Matt

What other shaft will come close to similar feeling. Thanks

As I mentioned in the review, the Tour AD DI is the most similar shaft in my experience.

  10. Graphite Design Tour AD HD Shaft Review

I was very impressed by how the Tour AD HD produced respectable results from poor swings . It took a truly awful effort to produce big slices or hooks. The Graphite Design Tour AD HD is available in weights ranging from 40 to 80 grams . At 40 grams, R2, R1, and Stiff are the available flexes. Everything from R2 to X is offered at 50 grams.
