Cleveland Tour Action Irons Review – Still Good And Forgiving For High Handicappers?

tour action iron set

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons were made to resemble blades but provide the forgiveness of cavity back irons.”

There were a few different iterations of the Cleveland Tour Action irons but for this review, I tested the Cleveland Tour Action 7 irons. This is the latest, and some would argue, greatest version of the Tour Action irons.

With these irons, Cleveland was really trying to bridge the gap between game improvement and players performance. Did they succeed? Are the Cleveland Tour Action irons any good for high handicappers? Read on to find out.

Are Cleveland Tour Action Irons Still Good?

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons have a very unique feature that I don’t think I’ve seen in any other irons.”

At least, not in any irons I can remember. The feature I’m talking about is the “Micro Cavity.” There are about five little chambers bored into the back of the topline. The purpose of these tiny chambers is to lighten the top portion of the head so that the center of gravity is shifted downward.

This design also helps to move more weight to the perimeter of the head where it can provide more forgiveness. The Cleveland Tour Action irons also feature the Vibration Absorption Technology that Cleveland actually patented.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons are cavity backs with progressive offset. At address, you can see the cavity undercut jut out a bit behind the relatively thin top line. You’re not going to be fooled into thinking you’re playing blades but they do have a clean look for cavity backs.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons also have a healthy face depth. There is enough real estate up and down the face to eliminate your thin shots. However, I did have some issues with digging.

Overall though, the Cleveland Tour Action irons have a light, wieldy feel. I found myself falling into a groove with them relatively quickly.

Are the Cleveland Tour Action Irons Forgiving for High Handicappers?

tour action iron set

“The best thing about the Cleveland Tour Action irons for high handicappers is that they have a big sweet spot.”

After just a few swings, I found the rhythm of these irons and was able to hit the expansive sweet spot consistently. The offset is generous in the long irons which didn’t look great to me; but it did provide excellent forgiveness.

The combination of the pronounced offset and the large sweet spot made the long irons in this set very easy to manage. And the long irons are notorious for giving neophyte players trouble so I would say that these irons are forgiving for high handicappers.

The large cavity back design helps to push mass towards the perimeter of the head. This stabilizes much of your common mis-hits.

The distance I was getting from these irons was a bit above average. With the 7-iron, I was averaging 158.7 yards. The dispersion was also reasonably tight when I stayed within the scoring lines.

And while the sweet spot is wide and hard to miss, if you do manage to miss it, don’t expect much forgiveness. On shots that missed the sweet spot, my ball was picking up a ton of spin and losing a lot of speed. As a result, my divergence widened and my carry distance dropped.

Cleveland Tour Action Vs Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

“The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo’s are hybrid irons with a hollow body design.”

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons also come stock with counterbalanced shafts. The Launcher XL Halo irons are extremely forgiving but they offer no workability. Also, if you aren’t used to counterbalanced shafts, they may feel weird to you. I would only recommend the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons to pure beginners.

Cleveland Tour Action First Impressions

tour action iron set

“I liked the fact that the Cleveland Tour Action irons did in fact offer a moderate degree of workability in a forgiving iron.”

They don’t really look like blades which is something I was expecting and hoping for. But I was able to work the ball left and right to a moderate degree. They aren’t massive irons. Instead, they have a moderate head size which strikes a really good balance between forgiveness and versatility.

Cleveland Tour Action Selling Points

  • Micro cavities
  • Progressive offset
  • Good face depth
  • Vibration absorption system
  • Large sweet spot

Cleveland Tour Action Key Technology

Vibration absorption system.

The VAS is designed to smooth out those harsh vibrations when you miss the sweet spot. I had no problem with the feel of these irons. They felt smooth and consistent all across the face.

Micro Cavities

The small cavities bored behind the top line work to redistribute weight low in the club head. They also appear to be filled with some sort of polymer or urethane which may contribute to the smooth feel.

Deep Face Profile

The deep face profile makes it much more difficult to hit the ball thin. For me though, the same feature was causing me to dig more than usual on the fairway.

Cleveland Tour Action Loft & Lie

Who should buy the cleveland tour action irons.

tour action iron set

“This was a tricky one to decide.”

First of all, I would say that Cleveland did in fact do a good job of making an iron that was at once forgiving and workable. The Cleveland Tour Action irons are inherently forgiving and it takes extreme mis-hits to affect their accuracy.

They can be point-and-shoot irons, and for more skilled players, they can be worked side-to-side a bit. So in the end, I suppose these irons would work for high and mid handicappers. Pretty much anyone in the 12-24 handicap range.

Distance: 96/100

Forgiveness: 96/100, workability: 96/100, overall performance: 96/100, value: 97/100.

Review of The Cleveland Golf Tour Action Box Set

tour action iron set

The Cleveland Tour Action Box set is a complete set of starter clubs including a 460cc titanium driver (forged), with seven oversize irons (5-iron through sand wedge), an oversize fairway wood and a hybrid utility ironwood. The set also includes a blade-style putter and nylon-padded Cleveland Golf stand bag. Clubheads are made of stainless steel with the irons available fitted with steel or graphite shafts. Woods have graphite shafts, while clubs contain soft Cleveland rubber grips.

The Cleveland Tour Action Box Set contains some snappy clubs. Each has mid-to-high launch angles and gets the ball up nicely. Clubs are well-built and durable. The irons are comfortable; the woods, especially the ironwood, are capable of straight shots and can be extremely forgiving. The putter is easy to line up and produces true rolls with minimal skids, while Cleveland bag is attractive and functional.

What some might feel is lacking are more durable shafts in the driver and fairway wood. While the irons are good-to-excellent performers for the recreational player, woods have the tendency of producing sprayed shots, especially if a player gains confidence out of the gate.

Bottom Line

The Cleveland Tour Action Box Set can make for the perfect starter set for any beginner. Irons are forgiving and the woods are dependable under controlled playing conditions with slower swings. Depending on the retailer, the outfit is being sold for between $500 and $600 per set (2009 pricing).

Blueprint t reviews, blueprint t specifications.

  • These are design specifications that may vary due to manufacturing tolerances.
  • Lie angle is based on Black Color Code at standard length.
  • Power Spec Loft is a fitting option for players looking to boost their iron distance or decrease spin to hit a desired trajectory window. This custom-designed loft configuration delivers a calculated power boost without sacrificing the integrity of the club’s design.
  • Retro Spec Loft is a fitting option if you’re less concerned with overall distance and more with precision and a higher trajectory for more stopping power. This loft configuration yields functional distance gaps for utilizing a 3-wedge setup or a more classic loft spec.
  • Club bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specs.
  • Achievable swingweights depend on shaft, length and grip combinations.
  • Available in left- and right-handed models.

Blueprint T Shafts

PING offers a variety of shaft flexes in steel and graphite to meet your needs and preferences. Selecting the proper shaft flex for your swing will help you get the most distance and accuracy from every shot. Generally, players with faster swing speeds require stiffer shafts to keep the ball trajectory lower, while players with slower swing speeds will require more-flexible shafts to produce a higher ball trajectory.

The choice of steel or graphite shafts is usually based on preferences for weight and/or feel. Players seeking a lighter overall weight and/or a softer feel in their irons may prefer graphite shafts, while players who prefer a standard-weight club with a firmer feel may prefer steel shafts.

We recommend that you get fit for the shaft that allows you to play your best golf. Whether that’s a softer, lighter shaft with a higher launch or a heavier, stiffer shaft with a lower trajectory, a PING Certified Club Fitter can help you find the shaft that brings consistency to your game.

  • Shaft weights listed are based on the trimmed length of a 7-iron and may not match the specs on the shaft manufacturer’s websites.
  • Graphite shafts are not available for the Blueprint T.

Blueprint T Grips

PING offers a variety of grip sizes and styles to fit different hand sizes and texture preferences. Since grip size influences your wrist action, and therefore the direction of your shots, it is commonly used by fitters to affect ball flight.

PING color-coded grips are available in six different diameters, and can be further customized with grip tape according to your needs. Once the neutral grip color code has been determined based on hand measurements, golfers may consider smaller diameter grips to help control fades and slices, or larger diameter grips to help control draws and hooks.

Evaluate the design and construction of the Cleveland Tour Action TA-1 irons. Consider the materials used, the clubhead design, and any unique features incorporated into the construction. by tstoto

No weaknesses. All very good.

these irons have improved my striking and my general play a lot! when i set up with these clubs i feel i can strike them well every time, i may only be shooting in the 80's but i will soon be hitting in the 70's, all thanks to the cleveland tour action ta-1's.

For me these irons are great. They are an extremely well balanced club. You can really feel the club head throughout the swing so you know exactly where you are on impact. I don't use the pitching wedge as it was replaced with a 46 degree 900 series wedge when I bought the set , but it works really well and is a good match. All golf clubs seem to be a little longer or shorter in distance depending on the manufacturer. You just have to put in some range time or play an executive course to dial in your yardages. I think these clubs are a steal now that Cleveland switched to the CG series, I bought a set for $99 that was like new on Ebay and couldn't be happier with the purchase. If you can hit a blade and I don't know why you couldn't these are sweet. I tried Johnny Miller's nine ball drill and just about nailed each shot on the first try. (His 5 iron drill is to hit 3 balls low, one straight, one with a draw, one with a fade, then three mid, then three high.) Great drill. There is always some cons to every club with these the slightest off center hit is a distance robber. Also they are easy to work but also easy to mis-hit right or left if you are the slightest bit off at impact so the is no forgivess with these clubs what so ever. But I think that's true with all blades. Then again there is that goosh when you flush it that makes up for everything. Overall they are great irons.

terrible....terrible ...terrible i play blades and these are the harshest feeling yucks i've ever tried !!

all of them ... titleist 681 the best

My hadicap is around 6, so I'm not the world's best but I'm not a hack. I waited for about a year before I posted a review for these clubs. I figured that I should let the reality set in before I went on record. I bought them on Ebay for a great deal of around $160, and the clubs are in great shape. I've had them in my bag for around 30 rounds. First for the pros. Great value for the price. They feel great when you hit 'em on the screws. My grooves are still very sharp and the spin from 5 iron down is great. Not uncommon to pull the string on 8 and 9 irons. I've replaced the PW with a gunmetal 47, so I can't comment on that. Long irons spin pretty damn well, also. The short irons are very workable and have a slight tendency to be left but not bad. I have a natural fade but can draw the ball pretty easily, but I still struggle to draw the 3 and 4 iron. It's there but it doesn't want to draw. These aren't the softest forgings out there but they aren't bad. They are soft enough to offer great feedback. Very workable - easy to keep it low or get it high with the short irons Now for the cons. The forgings are somewhat inbetween in my opinion. They aren't soft and they aren't crisp. Not as soft as Mizunos and not as crisp as say the Titleist 690s. I've found the ball flight to be inconsistent with the middle irons (4,5,6) and high with the shorts (7,8,9). For me, they play about 1 club shorter than other irons. I played my brother's Hogan Apex Edge Pros recently and the Clevelands are about 1 1/2 clubs shorter. This isn't really a problem, but it takes time to adjust. As to be expected with forged blades, they aren't forgiving. Mis-hits will be punished, but again, this shouldn't be a big deal. On a comletely superficial note, I think they look pedestrian in the bag. The new Cleveland designs are much classier. All in all they are a great deal for the price. They offer great feedback and will help you find that grooved swing. I've gone low (73, 75) with these sticks, so I can't complain. I've demo'd a lot of clubs and these do stack up. Mizuno's are softer. Titleist blades for me are often dead (690s are terrible, 681's are much nicer). The Hogan blades offer a similar smaller head and are a good comparison. They play a little softer, but have a little thicker topline and are way more expensive. Nike's are too weak in the lofts and the TA1s were longer with a little lower ball flight. Very solid iron for a very good price.

Haven't had to use it.

Demod everything, MP33, MP37, MP30, Titleist 690mb, 690cb, 681, Hogan Apex 50, Hogan Apex Edge Pro, Nike Blades, etc

Hmm.. first i went to golfdicount.com and looked for the TA1's and i saw that it was mighty cheap. It was $349 and i didn't think they were that good considering the price. I've read some reviews from other websites about it and all say that they've been hitting well with it and that they're good clubs. So i bought it and im receiving it in a couple of days. I hope i made the right choices because im 15and ive only been playing for 4 months and i shoot in the 90's. Ill write again to tell you guys how the clubs are.

I had a set of TM supersteel's that I really liked, but the slight offset in the club was really hampering my ability to work the ball left to right, made especially more difficult since my normal tendency is to work right to left. I hit the clevelands at a local range and really liked the feel I could tell they would take a little getting used to. Once I made my purchase I have never looked back. My long irons are longer and short irons are much more accurate. I can work the ball left to right just as easily right to left. I have much more control of my trajectory going to the bladed iron. But herein lies the rub, these irons are for the better golfer. There is ZERO forgiveness, if you miss the face don't expect to get away with it like I did so many times with my TM's. The clevelands have made me a better golfer because I know I need to make a good pass at the ball to get the intended results, so I am concentrating more on my preshot routine and more focused in on the shot at hand not the good looking beer girls that our course have been graced with. cheers!

Taylor Made supersteel, Taylor Made 300 forged, Nike blades, Titleist 990

Absolutely loved these blades. As soon as I got them I was throwing darts w/ my short irons. Long irons definitely not the easiest to hit in the world, but you should know by your ability if you should be hitting these. Love the feel. Far better than any Mizuno blade I've tried. Recently switched to Callaway x-16 pro series and now I'm really regretting it. When you hit a good shot w/ these.. you know you've earned it, but man that feeling is far more they rewarding.

Callaway X-16 pro series (get them if you want more forgiveness), Titliest 981

9 things that make bryson dechambeau's golf equipment unique, share this article.

tour action iron set

He may have switched from a Ben Hogan and Payne Stewart-style Daly hat to a more traditional baseball cap over the last two years, but Bryson DeChambeau swings the club and approaches his golf equipment differently than other pros.

While the 30-year-old from Modesto, California, has trimmed down from his massive size of a few years ago, he still creates incredible clubhead speed and strives to unlock new ways to gain distance and enhance his consistency. That, and his curiosity and passion for science, have lead to DeChambeau to adopt different swing techniques that often put special demands on his equipment.

Every pro has access to elite custom fitters who can personalize and customize equipment to enhance their performance, but no golfer goes to the extremes like Bryson DeChambeau.

Below are nine things about his gear that are unusual and unique.

1 DeChambeau uses 14 graphite shafts

Bryson DeChambeau's graphite shaft

For decades, there was a stigma about graphite shafts, that they were only for senior players and golfers who needed something ultra-lightweight because they struggled to generate speed. That dated thinking has gone the way of the feathery and hickory shafts. Bryson DeChambeau has a graphite shaft in all 14 clubs in his bag. In 2018, he signed an endorsement deal with LA Golf, and shortly after partnering with the brand, his signature line of graphite wood shafts and iron shafts was released.

Bryson DeChambeau

LA Golf purchased SIK, a putter company, in 2022 and began producing its own line of putters using SIK’s “Descending Loft “ technology. DeChambeau uses an LA Golf blade-style putter fitted with an extremely stiff graphite shaft. Most putters are designed with a lie angle of around 72 degrees because that allows golfers to get into a traditional address position with their eyes over the ball and their arms hanging straight down from their shoulders. DeChambeau’s putter has nearly 80 degrees of lie angle, which is the limit allowed by the Rules of Golf. It enables Bryson to use a more vertical, upright address position. He stands closer to the ball, locks his arms in place and positions the putter more vertically, trying to create a more repeatable pendulum stroke as the flat portion of his putter grip presses against his left forearm.

3 Bryson's grips are huge

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau uses JumboMax Tour Series XL grips on all his full-swing clubs. The grips are 3/8 “ larger in diameter than standard grips, which may not sound like a lot, but they feel and look immense. Golfers with large hands typically find that oversized or jumbo grips feel more comfortable and allow them to grip the club with less tension. Many golfers also find that larger grips reduce the amount of hand and wrist action in their swing, so players who get flippy with their irons and wedges can often benefit and increase consistency with larger grips.

4 DeChambeau's irons are 3D-printed

Bryson DeChambeau

On the Monday before the 2024 Masters, the USGA approved a custom set of 3D-printed Avoda irons made for DeChambeau and added them to the conforming club list. That made them legal to play in competition, and DeChambeau promptly added them to his bag in Augusta. As Golfweek’s Adam Schupak reported in April:

Avoda is a Hebrew word with multiple meanings, one of which is precision. According to Avoda’s website, the company makes two different types of irons, one-length irons like the clubs DeChambeau played when he was sponsored by Cobra, and combo-length irons.

5 Bryson's irons also have curved faces

Golf equipment companies go to great lengths to make the hitting area on irons perfectly flat, but DeChambeau’s 3D-printed Avoda irons have faces that curve from heel to toe . In drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, that curve is called bulge, and it is designed to reduce the gear effect that occurs when a player strikes the ball toward the toe or the heel. Earlier this week on Golf Channel, DeChambeau said, “Essentially, when I was hitting it on the toe I was hooking it like crazy. On the heel, I was missing it right like crazy. So I created curvature on the toe and the heel (of the iron faces) to get it started a little farther right on the toe and on the heel start it a little father left so it makes sure it doesn’t go too far offline. Much like the driver.”

6 DeChambeau's still uses irons and wedges that are the same length

Bryson DeChambeau

Traditionally, golf clubs are all different in length, with each club getting progressively shorter as the loft increases. So, for example, your 5-iron is slightly longer than your 6-iron, which is longer than your 7-iron. Since 2011, Bryson DeChambeau has been playing irons and wedges that are all the same length, 37.5 inches, which is the length of a traditional 7-iron. So, his higher-lofted irons are longer than standard, but his low-lofted irons are shorter than conventional length.

7 DeChambeau uses five wedges, sort of

Bryson DeChambeau plays a 60-degree lob wedge, a 56-degree sand wedge that has been bent to 55, a 50-degree gap wedge and a 45-degree pitching wedge. All of those clubs are Ping Glide 4.0 wedges, but then he plays another pitching wedge that matches the 3D-printed Avoda iron set that has 40 degrees of loft.

8 Bryson's iron lofts are ultra-strong

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau is cagey when it comes to the lofts of his clubs but has said that the loft of his Avoda 5-iron is 17 degrees. That’s very, very strong. Seventeen degrees of loft would ordinarily be used for a 2-iron or a 5-wood. Most 5-irons designed for elite players have about 8 to 10 degrees more loft (a Titleist T100 5-iron has 27 degrees, a Ping Blueprint T has 26 and a Srixon ZX7 MkII has 25). Bryson said on a YouTube video walkthrough of his gear that his 5-iron has 17 degrees of loft because that generates about 4,000 rpm of spin, which at DeChambeau’s swing speeds produces the trajectory that he’s looking for.

9 DeChambeau's woods are ultra-strong lofted too

Bryson DeChambeau

Many fast-swinging pros use drivers with 9 or 8 degrees of loft, and a handful opt for clubs with slightly less loft than that. However, Bryson DeChambeau uses a Krank Formula Fire driver made with 6 degrees of loft. However, the head has been adjusted, so it plays with only 5 degrees of loft. DeChambeau’s Krank Formula Fire 3-wood has 10 degrees of loft, which effectively makes it a mini driver, and his Krank Formula Fire 5-wood has 13 degrees of loft, which typically would be a strong-lofted 3-wood.

Bolton: Finding model that best fits TPC River Highlands

Golfbet News

Change Text Size

As you know, I’m not much of a model guy. It’s not that I don’t see their value as a tool for direction, but I’ve followed the PGA TOUR closely enough for a long time to know that they also can lead quickly to paralysis by analysis if they’re not digested in doses.

Still, we’ve toyed with models over the years at different times for different reasons, and the construct of the Travelers Championship and its timing present an opportune to play with a simple equation. More on that in a moment.

Another thing you know about me is that I’ll espouse archetypes based on the variables of the week. For example, on unfamiliar greens or smaller targets, ball-strikers set up as having an edge. TPC River Highlands is on the other side of the spectrum in that it’s well-known and the greens aren’t comparably small for a short course. On average, they are 5,000 square feet for the stock par 70 that tips at 6,835 yards. The shorter the course, the shorter the irons wielded on approach, thus the larger the targets relative to the weapon.

This setup favors the tried-and-true formula of hitting greens in regulation and converting those putts for par breakers. Accept but ignore the reality of a hot putter coming from nowhere to contend and focus on the meat of the matter.

When adding the individual ranks for every golfer in the field of the Travelers and ranking those sums, they reveal the most potent combination of GIR plus putting: birdies-or-better. Because Scottie Scheffler leads the PGA TOUR in both categories – 72.98% in GIR; 36.75% in putting: birdies-or-better – his sum is 2. You don’t need that evidence to prove why he deserved of the shortest odds to win (+400) at BetMGM, so let’s move on to a more favorable value.

Byeong Hun An slots 11th and fifth in the stats, respectively, so his sum is 16. That’s the second-lowest in the field, so, and suddenly, it just got interesting. He’s +6600 to win, which is something he’s never done on the PGA TOUR, but if he fulfills his profile as a sharpshooter and a scorer, he’s more likely to break through in a week like this one.

Other select entrants for whom this model supports something special in the vacuum:

  • Tom Hoge (+10000)… 37th (GIR) + 10th (putting: birdies-or-better) = fourth-lowest (in the field)
  • Sahith Theegala (+3300) … 28th + 32nd = sixth-lowest
  • Viktor Hovland (+2000) … 52nd + 18th = seventh-lowest
  • Corey Conners (+3300) … 6th + 77th = ninth-lowest
  • Jordan Spieth (+5500) … 72nd + 27th = 12th-lowest

Guys who are more proficient in GIR usually need an above-average performance with the putter to do damage, so the more impactful combination favors scorers who pay off the opportunities, but with no cut, everyone can be aggressive and free-wheel it.

Yes, many other factors always contribute to the projections and they must be respected. It’s why a model is but one tool. At the same time, simplifying a set-spike like this can be a confidence builder for guys who know that they can find their games at TPC River Highlands. With the last two weeks beating up on many of them, it’s also a tremendous week for you to fill your card with more from the model than your usual process.

Thursday will be the hottest and unaffected. The potential for inclement weather arrives on Friday and its timing is TBD. The air will cool a bit as the energy passes until Sunday when 90 degrees is back in play but with some wind.

So, if you wanted to hedge against your plays getting interrupted, consider the late-early half as the pool. Yet, with no cut and with more receptive turf if rain falls on Friday, there’s merit to blending your favorites in the opposite side of the draw. DFS sharks will stack because that’s what they do, but there’s unlikely to be a benefit to it.

Power Rankings Wild Card

Justin Thomas (+120 = Top 20) … It wasn’t that long ago that you wouldn’t hesitate to grab this and multiply the units for the plus value, and yet, it’s not like he’s that far removed from the impact that elicits curiosity over it now. It was just a month ago when he finished T8 at scorable Valhalla Golf Club for the PGA Championship, his fourth top 10 and sixth top 20 of 2024. He’s also hung up a pair of top 20s at TPC River Highlands in eight appearances, the latter of which just a year ago when he was scuffling much worse than he is upon arrival this week. The beauty is that it’s a limited field and his firepower is promised four rounds.

Other notables

Thomas Detry (+500 = Top 10) … The PGA TOUR sophomore has proven to be a quick study all season and sits 22nd in the FedExCup. He’s scattered four top 10s and another three top 20s, including a T14 at the U.S. Open where he led the field in putting: birdies-or-better. With four rounds at TPC River Highlands, where he’s in his second appearance, he can keep it floored throughout and allow his phenomenal putting do the work.

Sepp Straka (+275 = Top 10) … If you limit your sample size of results to only the last three Signature Events, he’s gone T5-T8-T5, but he’s also worked in a T16 at THE PLAYERS Championship, a T16 at the Masters and a T5 at the Charles Schwab Challenge across the same period of time. A cursory review of his analytics reveal the kind of extreme results that have defined the majority of his career, but there’s easily enough to warrant this reach on that data alone, too. Oh, and he also locked up a T10 here in 2021.

Adam Scott (+200 = Top 20) … In the Aussie we trust. He’s recorded consecutive top 20s in this tournament going back to a T13 in 2021. While it’d have paid off this bet, last year’s T19 is misleading in that he opened with 62 and sat T4 after three rounds. He’s also less than a month removed from a T12 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, his sixth top 20 worldwide this year.

NOTE: Not everything needs a setup. For a variety of reasons, these lines are too enticing to ignore.

  • Byeong Hun An (+175 = Top 20)
  • Sungjae Im (+275 = Top Korean)
  • Stephan Jaeger (+110 = Top 30)
  • Taylor Pendrith (+240 = Top 20)
  • Andrew Putnam (+160 = Top 30)

Notable WDs

Rory McIlroy … The gutted runner-up at the U.S. Open has decided to regroup and rest until his title defense at the Genesis Scottish Open . He’s a two-time PGA TOUR winner this season, including the Wells Fargo Championship, which was the sixth Signature Event.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

tour action iron set

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

tour action iron set

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

tour action iron set

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

tour action iron set

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Election latest: Sunak says he's not being investigated over betting scandal - as Farage brands ex-PM 'liar' over Putin comments

Rishi Sunak has said he is not personally being investigated over the betting allegations surrounding the party. Meanwhile, Reform UK's Nigel Farage has hit back at Boris Johnson following criticism of his comments about Ukraine, Vladimir Putin, and NATO.

Rishi Sunak has been speaking to journalists on the campaign trail this lunchtime.

He reveals the Conservatives are conducting their own investigation into the betting allegations surrounding the party.

But Mr Sunak says he is not aware of any further candidates being looked into than those who were named last week - and says he himself is not being investigated.

The prime minister confirms he has never placed a bet on politics.

It comes as the Gambling Commission conducts an investigation into several bets placed on the date of the general election.

Four Tory candidates and officials are being investigated - the last one named was the party's chief data officer, Nick Mason.

Mr Sunak has not been drawn on that investigation, saying it's "independent of government" and "independent of me".

"I don't have details of their investigation," he adds.

The Tories "will act on any relevant findings or information" from their own inquiry and "pass it on to the Gambling Commission".

Sky deputy political editor Sam Coates has been speaking to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer this morning.

Sam questions Sir Keir on the claims made by Paul Johnson of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, that it will be hard for the next government to invest - and growth is likely to be low.

Sir Keir says: "Yes, we need to invest in our public services, and I ran one for five years, I believe in that.

"Yes, we need to grow our economy.

"I don't actually agree with these forecasts, that are premised on the basis that we cannot grow the economy, that things cannot be better than they are now.

"I'm proud that our manifesto is a manifesto for building and creating wealth, and that's the change."

Pushed on whether growth can come into the economy fast enough for Labour to enact its plans, Sir Keir says his party has been talking to investors to try to get backing for the big plans in their manifesto.

"I don't accept that nothing can get better," he adds.

Sir Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat leader, has been asked about the ongoing betting scandal.

Asked whether politicians should be subject to betting restrictions, he says: "I'd be happy to look at restrictions on politicians, of course, and I'd be happy for the Gambling Commission to put forward ideas."

He adds that the Tories "could do far more" on the scandal.

"It feels to me like, as has been so often the case during this Parliament, they seem to be in it for themselves, not for the public service.

"You see one rule for the Conservatives and another rule for others."

Our live poll tracker collates the results of opinion surveys carried out by all the main polling organisations - and allows you to see how the political parties are performing in the run-up to the general election.

It shows a drop in support in recent days for Labour and the Tories - with a jump for Reform and the Liberal Democrats.

Sky business correspondent Paul Kelso was watching the economist Paul Johnson heavily criticise all the political parties over their financial plans.

Paul likens Mr Johnson to a "fiscal referee", with the Institute for Fiscal Studies "defensive" about its independent status.

The analysis of the economic situation was "withering", Paul says - and that it outlined how politicians were "dodging the fundamental underlying position of the British economy".

This is down to high debt interest rate payments, demographic changes, rising welfare and increasing defence spending.

Paul says of Mr Johnson: "His point is that unless there's some magical growth - perhaps not quite magical, but unexpected growth - in the forecast, whoever comes to power is going to have to either increase taxes or cut spending or increase borrowing.

"And none of the parties are willing to talk about that in detail."

Speaking from the Conservative campaign today, political correspondent Rob Powell says the Tory response will be to say their pledged tax cuts will increase growth, which in turn will bring in greater tax receipts - but has kept quiet on its plans if this does not happen.

And political correspondent Tamara Cohen is with Labour today.

She says the current opposition's response will be they are going for growth too - but haven't outlined their plans for tax rises or spending cuts if this does not happen.

Tamara adds that Labour is not really engaging with the question of what happens if the economy does not perform well.

Paul Johnson, the director of the well-respected Institute for Fiscal Studies, has given his verdict on the Labour and Conservative approach to the economy.

He does not pull his punches.

Mr Johnson says: "They have singularly failed even to acknowledge some of the most important issues and choices to have faced us for a very long time."

He highlights that taxes are at a record high and public services are struggling - and more services "will likely need to be cut over the next five years" if the government wants to get down.

The economist notes that a £50bn uptick in debt interest spending is particularly to blame - as well as a growing welfare state.

Mr Johnson's diagnosis is to call for a "primary surplus" - where taxes raise more than is spent on revenues (apart from debt interest).

"Not necessarily a recipe for a happy electorate," he adds.

The IFS chief says the rush to rule out tax increases has been damaging.

And he criticises Labour for its pledge to not increase taxes on working taxes - "who knows what this pledge is really supposed to mean".

For the Conservatives, he says they are planning to reverse many of the policies implemented since 2010 with their new tax cuts.

Mr Johnson says the Liberal Democrats have some good ideas - but also some less good ones.

And Reform's plans help "poison the entire political debate" by proposing things to make a change that are "wholly unattainable".

The Green Party plans to increase borrowing massively "would have unpleasant consequences".

He says: "The choices in front of us are hard. High taxes, high debt, struggling public services, make them so.

"Pressures from health, defence, welfare, ageing will not make them easier.

"That is not a reason to hide the choices or to duck them. Quite the reverse. Yet hidden and ducked they have been."

The fallout from Nigel Farage's comments last week, in which he said the West had provoked Russia into invading Ukraine, continues.

Over the weekend, former prime minister Boris Johnson criticised Mr Farage's words as "nauseating ahistorical drivel and more Kremlin propaganda".

Now, Mr Farage has posted on social media, saying: "Boris, you are a liar and a hypocrite.

"I am glad you are no longer prime minister of this country."

He also attached two articles in highlighting comments from Mr Johnson in 2016 in which he appeared to blame the EU for Russia's 2014 invasion of Ukraine.

With betting an unexpected theme of this election, we've taken our parliamentary bench to the Sheffield dog track.

Bookies are lined up beside the arena and the people of Sheffield have come for a perfectly legal flutter on which greyhound can run fastest, while chasing a mechanical hare that they will never catch.

Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough is one of the most working-class constituencies in the UK - the seventh most deprived in England and Wales.

At the Owlerton Stadium a lot of the punters said they weren't going to vote, one man in his 80s proudly said he'd never voted, but those who said they are going to the ballot on 4 July, say they want change.

Callum Fradgley, greyhound trainer, said: "I would like to see Labour win it personally, but that's just a personal choice. I'd like a government that's going to be more for the working class."

Neil Kelly, a teacher on a day out with his family, said: "All you need to do is go into a school to see that the spending may be going up but it's not going up in line with everything else. I work in a school in Sheffield for autistic kids and the facilities we have at some of the sites are frankly Victorian."

Sky deputy political editor Sam Coates has a bit more on the current situation with the election betting scandal.

He's heard the Gambling Commission has been sent hundreds of lines of entries in spreadsheets from various bookmakers to consider.

While this may seem like a lot, in terms of betting it's actually fairly small.

The commission had asked the betting shops to send over information on any bet placed in May and June on the date of the election that was due to win £199 or more.

Sam says: "I suspect the Tories are bracing themselves and waiting nervously to see whether any other names emerge.

"I have to say, gambling industry sources that I've been speaking to in the last 24 hours don't think that there will be any more names - they think we've got the best of it.

"But that could be very, very dramatically wrong in the next few hours."

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting is speaking to Sky News this morning.

Proposed changes to the way in which trans people would change gender under Labour are put to him.

This includes making it easier to get a gender recognition certificate - see more in our 6.47am post.

When it is put to Mr Streeting that some in the party may be uncomfortable with the changes, he says the Labour Party is in "a good place" on the manifesto.

"I think there are lots of people who've been reassured by Labour's position on this," he says, adding that there have been "difficult conversations" both in the party and across the country on the topic.

He says: "We have had some tension between how you treat trans people with dignity and respect and inclusion and also make sure that women's rights, voices, spaces are protected.

"And, you know, I think that, I feel very optimistic about the fact that we can reconcile those two things and move forward together as a country.

"If we have a political culture that's about bringing people together and navigating our way through these conversations with respect, genuinely listening to different perspectives, rather than seeing these differences as divisions to be exploited."
