50+ Virtual Field Trip Amusement Park Links (+ Activity Ideas)

Virtual Field Trip Amusement Park Day

Looking for ways to make virtual field trips to amusement parks more fun for kids?

These amusement park project ideas, activities, and carnival games will make a theme park virtual tour more than just a virtual walk through the park.

Plus, with links to 57 theme park and amusement park virtual tours, you’ll have everything you need to start planning a virtual field trip to Disney World parks, Six Flags parks, and more.

Planning an Interactive Virtual Field Trip Amusement Park Day

How do you take a virtual field trip to Six Flags?

Like many other amusement parks, several Six Flags locations have allowed Google to do a Street View tour of their park. Google Street View is easy to navigate, but if you aren’t familiar with it and want to learn about all of the features read this article .

Of course, if you were planning a real trip to Six Flags, you wouldn’t go to just walk through the park.

And there’s no reason that your virtual tour has to be just a walkthrough either.

All you need to do to make a virtual tour into a full virtual vacation day is add in some virtual rides, carnival games, and at-home activities, all of which you will find tips and suggestions for below.

As you’re doing your walkthrough of the park, stop and take a virtual ride when you reach each attraction.

If you’re touring a park that has carnival games, set some up in your backyard or living room and take a break from the screen when you reach the game area.

Another great way to take a break from the screen is to plan some other amusement park themed projects and activities for your kids.

Not only will these activities make the trip more interactive and fun for your kids, but it will help you stretch a short virtual tour into a full day of fun at home.

For tips on how to organize your virtual field trip amusement park day read How to Take a Virtual Vacation.

Virtual Amusement Park Rides

Virtual Amusement Park Rides

If you’re planning a Busch Gardens virtual field trip, you’re going to want to check out the triple-launch roller coaster, Cheetah Hunt.

Luckily, thanks to YouTube , you can take a virtual ride on it, and many other popular theme park rides, from home.

Finding virtual amusement park rides is easy.

Just look through the ride section on the website for the park you plan to visit.  Then pick the rides you want to experience virtually and search for them on YouTube.  Use the term “POV” in your search to find first-person point of view videos of the rides.

Some videos are even done in 360° views.

Virtual Entertainment

Rides aren’t the only virtual resource you need to include to experience a theme park from home.

What would a trip to Disney World be without watching a parade or seeing Mickey Mouse perform on stage?

Search on the entertainment section of the theme parks website to see what shows, parades, and more they have.

Then search for the name of each on YouTube to find videos of the live performances.

Video Tours of Resorts

If you’re taking a Hershey Park virtual field trip, you may want to take a quick tour of Hershey Lodge, Hershey Hotel, or the Hershey Camping Resort too.

While you’re on the theme parks website looking for rides and entertainment, make sure you check to see what accommodations they have too.

Many theme parks have their own hotels and resorts that are worth checking out, and luckily there are a lot of YouTubers who have posted virtual tour videos of them too.

Amusement Park Virtual Tour At-Home Activity Ideas

Amusement Park Activity Ideas

Sitting back and taking in the view of rides, shows, parades, and resorts is relaxing for us adults.  But most kids will start to get restless spending a day just watching videos between the virtual walking tour.

That’s why it’s great to take a short break once in a while to do an activity away from the screen too. Here are some ideas for theme park-related activities you can do at home.

  • Face painting- many amusement parks have face painting booths, so why not pull out your own face paint when you see one on the virtual tour? You can go all out and learn how to make some fancy designs with these face painting tutorials, or just pick up a kit with some stencils.
  • Theme park recipes- You can find recipes for some of your favorite Disney food and Universal studios food on their websites.  For other theme and amusement parks check Pinterest or Google for copy cat recipes.
  • Family photos- look on the amusement parks website to see if they have any digital backdrops, like this one from Universal Studios .  Then use it as a background for your own photoshoot.
  • Coloring/activity sheets- Universal Studios has coloring pages on their website, and Canada’s Wonderland has a few activity sheets too.  You can also find generic amusement park coloring sheets by doing a Google image search.
  • Amusement park crafts – There are lots of amusement park craft ideas on Pinterest you can do too.

While these last two activity ideas won’t give your kids a break from the screen, they are a great way to keep kids engaged in the virtual tour.

  • Scavenger hunt- make your own scavenger hunt sheet (like this one for Canada’s Wonderland ) by doing a virtual walkthrough and writing out some of the things you see.
  • Bingo sheets- write out the names of some rides on bingo sheets, then have your kids bingo dab each ride as you reach it on your virtual tour.

DIY Carnival Games

DIY Carnival Games

Many amusement parks have carnival games spread throughout the park.  To see what kinds of games the park you will be virtually visiting has do a virtual walkthrough, or search on YouTube to get a better look at the games.

Once you know what games they have, search on Pinterest or Google to find DIY versions that you can make at home.

You can have your kids play the games just for fun, or have prizes for them to win.  Make a simple prize bucket with some party favors and/or dollar store toys.

The games below were based on games at Canada’s Wonderland.  To get a better view of some of these games, watch this YouTube video .  To see pictures of how I set up some of these games, see this Facebook post .

  • Ring Toss – set up your own ring toss game, like this , with some unopened pop bottles (or empty ones filled with water) and anything you can find to use as a tossing ring.
  • Peach Basket – make your own version of the Peach Basket game, by leaning a laundry basket or similarly shaped container up against a wall.  Angle it so that it is difficult (but not impossible) to get the ball in without it bouncing back out.
  • Rebound – find a board, kids’ easel, tv tray, or something similar and lean it against a wall at a slight angle.  Place a bucket or laundry basket below it (see this website for an example).
  • Gunball – make this game at home with a few plastic cups and a nerf gun.
  • Milk Cans – While you can buy a classic milk can online, you could also just use a non-breakable vase, large sand pail, or a large juice jug with a ball that is just a bit smaller than the top opening to throw into it.
  • Foul Shot – to create your own version of the Foul Shot game pick up a door basketball hoop from the dollar store.  Set it up somewhere that you can throw the ball in at a distance.
  • Water gun race – to do your own water gun race, draw targets on a fence outside with sidewalk chalk.  Have your kids race to see who can erase the target first with water guns.
  • Duck Pond – write a prize amount on the bottom of some dollar store rubber ducks with a sharpie marker.  Then float them in a kiddie pool, large tote, or even the bathtub and have your kids chose one.
  • Ski Ball – If you want an easy to make DIY arcade game, follow this design from Frugal Fun 4 Boys for a ski ball game made with cardboard and laundry baskets.
  • For more carnival game options check out Pinterest’s DIYs .

Follow Up Amusement Park Project Ideas

If you want to extend your virtual tour, or make it more educational, here are a few ideas for some follow up amusement park themed projects you can do after the trip.

  • Design your own paper roller coaster or paper plate roller coaster .
  • Create an original ride with drawings and a paragraph describing how it works.
  • Design your own amusement park by making an amusement park map.
  • Make a replicate of the amusement park you visited on Minecraft or a game like Roller Coaster Tycoon.
  • Check on Roblox and see if anyone has made a game based on the amusement park you visited.  Compare their rides and layout to the real parks.
  • Make an ad, flyer, or brochure for the amusement park you visited.
  • Write a review of the amusement park.
  • Do a slide show of the amusement park rides to make your own virtual tour.

Experiential Virtual Tour

Epcot theme park experiential virtual tour, explore epcot theme park.

During the early development of Walt Disney World, an experimental planned community serving as a center for American innovation and urban living was conceived by Walt Disney. Termed “EPCOT”, the concept featured residential areas, an urban city center and a web of mass transportation systems that would interconnect the community. “EPCOT”, an acronym for  Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow , was described as a utopian city of the future. Certainly, this experiential virtual tour would perfectly compliment the city of the future.

The “EPCOT” concept was abandoned after Disney’s death in 1966, as the company expressed uncertainty about maintaining an operating city without Walt’s guidance. During the 1970s A second theme park began development by WED Enterprises. As Magic Kingdom’s popularity grew, this new park would act as a supplement for the resort, showcasing modern innovation and enterprise through avant-garde edutainment attractions as well as the addition of a world nations exposition. Opening as EPCOT Center in 1982, the newly designed park featured two sections-Future  World and World Showcase. Spanning across 305 acres, the park is more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom Park. The park was renamed to “Epcot” in 1994.  In 2018, Epcot was the fourth most visited theme park in North America and the seventh most visited theme park in the world with 12.444 million guests. Take a trip to the park in this experiential virtual tour.

Not only can you and your kids get a tour of Cinderella’s Castle, you can also learn more about the world, see wild animals in the zoo, take a virtual thrill ride, and many more experiences that you can only find in Orlando.

Visit Orlando rounded up some of the virtual experiences you can enjoy from the comfort of your home, including a ride down a 200-foot roller coaster, Disney World fireworks over the famous Cinderella Castle, zip lines, and even tours of museums, zoos, and relaxing spots.

City of Orlando

Theme Parks

Obviously, Orlando has a lot to offer in terms of theme park experiences. At Sea World, you can ride the tallest roller coaster . At the less recognizable Gatorland, take a thrilling zip line over alligators .

If you’re looking to get some summer vibes, take a float down the river at Aquatica’s Roa’s Rapids at the Aquatica Orlando water park.

At Walt Disney World, you can easily take a tour of Main Street in front of Cinderella Castle, or enjoy character meet-and-greets, peeks of new rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and much more exclusively from the Disney Parks YouTube channel . Or, take it easy on the lazy river inside a 5-acre waterpark located in the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World.

At Universal Orlando Resort, virtually visit the popular The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley as well as 360-degree videos of some of the most popular roller coasters in other parts of Universal. You can also look into restaurants on the Universal CityWalk and more on the Universal Orlando Resort’s YouTube channel .

There’s a lot more to Orlando than just theme parks. Explore a lake in Orlando’s Lake Eola Park while virtually riding on a giant swan-shaped boat .

Gatorland’s School of Croc hosts a Facebook live every day at 10 a.m. to showcase their animals. In the afternoon, their YouTube channel shares live-action encounters with animals like the Burmese pythons and crocodiles.

Similarly, the Central Florida Zoo also hosts a number of daily videos on Facebook live so you can see how the animals are living. SeaWorld’s Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is also open for virtual tours of a penguin colony.

There are a number of great ways to keep your school-aged kids engaged while they’re stuck at home. You can now stream educational IMAX films from the cinedome of the Orlando Science Center. MacGillivray Freeman is also streaming IMAX films .

The Kennedy Space Center is also hosting videos and Facebook Lives to show kids how it feels to live in space, as well as instruction in rocketry and much more.

Learn how Disney Imagineers design a theme park and enjoy interactive activities and lessons with this free online program created in partnership with the Khan Academy and Pixar. In addition, you can brush up your art skills and learn to draw Mickey Mouse in some of Disney’s how-to tutorials on the Disney Parks YouTube channel.

Music, movies, and museums

There’s a lot of arts and culture to be discovered in Orlando, too. The Timucua Arts Foundation is posting daily videos of previously recorded live performances on its Facebook page, as well as hosting a Digital Music Flea Market to help local musical artists.

Stuck in a Netflix rut? The Enzian Theater’s resident film experts have plenty of movie recommendations on the theater’s Facebook page .

There are lots of museums out there that are offering online tours , and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is no different. Visit the museum's website to find PDF versions of gallery guides or learn about the museum’s history by streaming two available films: " A Legacy for the Community " and " The Tiffany Chapel: A Masterpiece Rediscovered ".

The San Diego Zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the entire United States. Located in Balboa Park just north of downtown San Diego, it’s home to more than 4,000 animals (many of which are endangered) and more than 700,000 individual plants.

On their website, you can access live cameras including the koala cam, panda cam, hippo cam, and penguin cam. Some of the cameras are live while others are pre-recorded due to ongoing construction at the zoo. This is the perfect way to keep track of your favorite animals in realistic-looking habitats. You can also watch videos covering different topics such as pigmy hippos, tapir calves, and toucan chicks to learn more about these fascinating animals.

17. Monterey Bay Aquarium

Monterey Bay Aquarium is located on the edge of Monterey Bay just south of San Francisco in Central California. The aquarium offers more than 200 exhibits and 80,000 plants and animals with a focus on local and regional species. Like the San Diego Zoo, the Monterey Bay Aquarium offers live webcams that give you the chance to see your favorite marine animals any time of the day! Some of the animals you can view include jellyfish, penguins, sea otters, sharks, and more! There are also webcams of Monterey Bay and the open bar so you can see what’s happening in the ocean.

If you want to experience something really unique, head over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s YouTube channel where you can watch videos of marine animals paired with ambient and instrumental music. Now that is one mesmerizing way to relax!

18 . Houston Zoo

If the San Diego Zoo doesn’t have webcams of your favorite animals, don’t despair. The Houston Zoo has even more webcams just waiting for you! The zoo’s webcams allow you to see their herd of Asian elephants making their way through their habitat, watch giraffes nibble on their favorite snack of lettuce, or laugh as hippos roll around in a massive mud puddle. For anyone that prefers primates, you can even watch chimpanzees and gorillas interact with guests. The webcams also give you a view into the zoo’s educational programs and animal care

How To Cut the Line At Theme Parks: Fast Passes & Other Ways To Do It

We’ve all told our kids a thousand times not to cut the line because it’s rude and selfish. But what if there was a way to cut a line that was neither rude nor selfish? Intriguing, right?

One of the biggest – and most consistent – complaints from theme park guests is long waiting time in lines, and while the parks obviously try to make queue experiences as entertaining and immersive as possible, there’s no way to eliminate them. Or is there?

Universal Parks Virtual Lines

Universal Orlando Resort introduced the virtual line system when the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon attraction opened in 2017 – Photo courtesy of Universal Orlando Resort

When the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon attraction opened in 2017, Universal Orlando Resort introduced a revolutionary new idea: a virtual line. With this new system, guests can sign up for spot in the Race Through New York virtual line and eliminate the dreaded “endless switchback” waiting experience. By using the Universal Orlando app from anywhere in the park, you can simply select the time you would like to ride and show up. It’s honestly as simple as that. No smartphone? No problem! Kiosks at the attraction work equally well to choose a return time (it just might be a tad less convenient to have to walk over to the ride).

But that’s not all! Once guests are inside the attraction, they still don’t have to wait on a long line. Instead, they are handed a colored ticket and are then free to explore on their own – and there’s a lot of cool Tonight Show memorabilia to see – until the color of the light signals, then it’s their turn to move upstairs. Here, there’s still no line. Guests can relax in the Tonight Show “Green Room” and even enjoy performances by Tonight Show regulars, the Rag Time Gals and Hashtag the Panda.

When the lights change color again, it’s time to ride – I admit there is a short line this time, but it really is short!

Universal Orlando uses their Virtual Line occasionally with other attractions on unusually busy days. Make sure to check the app if you are visiting on a busy day! I also often see Virtual Line passes when a ride is brand new!

Note that as of this update, Virtual Line times are not *required* for any ride at Universal Orlando its just an easy and free option!

Universal Express Pass

But, you may ask, what about the rest of the attractions at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood? For that, I turn your attention to the Universal Express Pass (or as it’s called in Hollywood, Universal Express). This separately purchased perk allows guests to enter through expedited lines – so, just to be clear, this is not a “front of the line” pass, but it can cut wait times by about a third.

On busy days (like weekends and holidays), the Express pass does cut down the wait time, but if the park is not excessively busy and wait times are not outrageously long, that’s honestly when each family needs to determine if the added expense is worth it for them. If your family includes impatient toddlers (and/or teens) or if you have people in your group who have trouble standing in line for a long time, the Express line could be a real lifesaver. After all, if you’re going to invest in taking everyone to a theme park (which we all know is pretty expensive nowadays), you certainly don’t want the day ruined by grumpy line waiters. Another thing to consider is whether to choose the standard Express pass, which only allows one use of the Express queue per attraction per day versus Unlimited Express, which lets you use the Express queue as many times as you want. Of course, unlimited access comes at a higher cost.

Pro Tip: At Universal Orlando, several of the resort’s on-site hotels offer free Unlimited Express Passes, so if you weren’t planning to stay at a Universal hotel for your entire vacation, consider staying at least one night for the Express passes (plus the added perk of early admission into the parks).

“I love that Express Pass is included at the Hard Rock, Portofino, and Royal Pacific,” says Meredith Wallace, a Disney travel specialist and mother of three. “The value of staying at one of these resorts really adds so much enjoyment (who likes to wait in line?) that it’s absolutely worth the slight increase in price. My family always stays at one of these properties so we can maximize our visit.”

We’ve all told our kids a thousand times not to cut the line because it’s rude & selfish. But here’s a way to cut lines gracefully.

Disney Parks Genie +

Genie+Some people love it, some people hate it, let’s talk about it.

It’s an add on to your ticket, currently priced at $15 a day per person in Orlando and $20 in California (because everything is more expensive in California). Genie+ allows you to make reservations to wait in a shorter line. You can make a new reservation every 2 hours OR when you used up all of your reservations.

The ability to purchase Genie+ opens up at Midnight, the ability to make your first reservation opens up at 7 am. You don’t need to be in the park to make Genie+ reservations. If you have park hopper, Genie+ will let you make reservations at another park after hopping opens up at 2 PM.

Not sure when you can make your next reservation? Don’t worry, the app will tell you! Just try to make any reservation and it will remind you of when you are eligible.

My husband calls Genie+ “the monster” because it can be a bit of a beast. I highly suggest reading all the tips and tricks you can before you go. I also highly suggest checking out some videos from Molly, she’s affiliated with both AllEars and Club Mammoth on Youtube. She has TONS of great tips that will help you maximize your day!

My experience is that most causal users get 4-5 Genie+ selections a day. However, if you study the tips, you can absolutely get more. A friend of mine just secured 10 on a day when Magic Kingdom closed early! As my husband would say, you need to befriend the monster.

Don’t Miss! Adventures by Disney SoCal Escape: How to Get Behind the Scenes

Single Rider

Single Rider is a bit of a well-kept theme park secret, and in my opinion, is perhaps the most underutilized way to avoid long theme park lines – especially for families.

Certain attractions offer people riding alone the ability to “fill in” single seats in a ride vehicle. For example, if there is a party of five in a vehicle that seats six, a single rider will fill that extra spot. Every park has different rules, but once kids are old enough and/or tall enough to ride alone – and, of course, are willing to – Single Rider lines are a great option because they’re frequently much shorter and/or faster than even Genie+ or Express lines (though not always). Plus, at Disney parks, there’s really no reason to “waste” a Genie+ on a ride with a Single Rider line.

There have been plenty of times when my sons and I have waited in Single Rider lines and have still been able to ride together, but you do have to be willing to be separated if you choose to use that line because most of the time, you will be.

One caveat is that, on certain attractions, like Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts at Universal Studios Florida, the single rider queue bypasses most of the super cool magical wizardy stuff in the standby and Express lines, so it should definitely not be used the first time you experience the attraction, but for subsequent times, it can be a huge time saver. On other attractions, like Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure, the single rider queue runs right alongside the standby queue, so you’re not missing anything important.

Don’t Miss! Why Universal Orlando is Better for Families than Disney World

There’s one last way to skip the lines (and this one really does allow you to skip the lines), and that’s a VIP Tour.

VIP Tours at Disney parks are the best way to make sure you’ll have no wait times – Photo courtesy of Disney Parks

Both Universal and Disney parks offer VIP tours, which provide a personal guide who will act as your “human Genie” and escort you right to the front of the line. For families who are willing to spend the money, this is a guarantee that you will be able to ride every attraction in the park – even more than once if you want – without waiting.

If money were no object, I would do a Walt Disney World VIP Tour every visit,” Wallace says. “The private tour that is just my family makes it easy to do all the highlights at all four theme parks and still not start at the crack of dawn, it truly is amazing!

I’ve been fortunate to have experienced VIP Tours at Disneyland and at Universal Orlando Resort and there’s something to be said for sashaying past all the other people in line and right to the front – because, really, who doesn’t like to sashay? But, unless it’s a super special occasion or this is the one and only time your family will ever be visiting that theme park, it may not be worth the expense. Though the sashaying part is definitely fun, not gonna lie.

Moscow city 360-degree virtual reality tour.

Take the virtual tour of the kremlin, moscow river, saint basil’s cathedral and red square.

The Moscow Kremlin  usually referred to as the Kremlin, is a fortified complex at the heart of Moscow, overlooking the Moskva River to the south, Saint Basil’s Cathedral and Red Square to the east, and the Alexander Garden to the west.

It is the best known of the Kremlins (Russian citadels) and includes five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. Also within this complex is the Grand Kremlin Palace. The complex serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation.

The name “Kremlin” means “fortress inside a city”, and is often also used metonymically to refer to the government of the Russian Federation in a similar sense to how “White House” is used to refer to the Executive Office of the President of the United States. It had previously been used to refer to the government of the Soviet Union (1922–1991) and its highest members (such as general secretaries, premiers, presidents, ministers, and commissars). The term “Kremlinology” refers to the study of Soviet and Russian politics.

All of Moscow’s main streets start at  Red Square , so it’s easy to see why this is considered the heart of the city. A massive space of 330 meters by 70 meters, the square is flanked by the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum, two cathedrals, and the State Historical Museum. In 1945, a massive Victory Parade was held here to celebrate the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Soviet Armed Forces.

St. Basil’s Cathedral , one of the most recognizable buildings on the square, was built in 1555. The unique cathedral has architectural details inspired by Byzantine and Asian designs, as well as details that resemble those found in famous mosques. There are nine individual chapels inside the church, all decorated with colourful mural art.

Yuri Gagarin Is the First Man in Space. Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961

How to Create Immersive University Virtual Tours

theme park virtual tour

In today's digital age, virtual tours have become an essential tool for universities to attract and engage prospective students. By offering an immersive and interactive experience, universities can showcase their campus facilities, highlight key locations, and reach a global audience. This article will guide you through the steps to create an effective and engaging university virtual tour.

theme park virtual tour

Key Takeaways

  • Virtual tours enhance student engagement by providing interactive and meaningful experiences.
  • High-quality visual content, including 360° photography and drone footage, is crucial for creating an immersive tour.
  • Interactive elements like clickable hotspots and multimedia content can significantly enrich the virtual tour experience.
  • Choosing the right virtual tour platform involves evaluating features, pricing, and customization options.
  • Promoting your virtual tour through various channels, including social media and email campaigns, can increase its visibility and reach.

Understanding the Importance of Virtual Tours for Universities

Virtual tours have become an essential tool for universities to connect with prospective students. They offer an immersive experience that allows students to explore the campus from anywhere in the world. This is particularly important in today's digital age, where students rely heavily on online resources to make informed decisions about their education.

Enhancing Student Engagement

Virtual tours can significantly enhance student engagement by providing an interactive and engaging way to explore the campus. Students can navigate through different locations, click on hotspots to learn more about specific areas , and even participate in live video chats. This level of interactivity helps to keep students interested and engaged, making them more likely to consider the university as a viable option.

Showcasing Campus Facilities

One of the key benefits of virtual tours is the ability to showcase campus facilities in a detailed and immersive way. Whether it's the state-of-the-art science labs, modern dormitories, or expansive sports facilities, virtual tours allow universities to highlight their best features. This can be particularly appealing to prospective students who want to get a feel for the campus environment before making a decision.

Reaching a Global Audience

Virtual tours enable universities to reach a global audience, attracting students from different parts of the world. This is especially important for institutions looking to diversify their student body and increase international enrollment. With virtual tours, students can explore the campus from the comfort of their own homes, making it easier for them to envision themselves as part of the university community.

Cloudpano for universities offers immersive 360º virtual tours for campuses, attracting diverse students globally. Technology-driven results show increased engagement and application flow. ADA-compliant tours accessible on any device.

Planning Your University Virtual Tour

Planning a university virtual tour involves several critical steps to ensure it is engaging and effective. Defining your audience personas and designing for your audience is essential to create a tour that resonates with prospective students. Additionally, understanding what a virtual tour is and how it can fit into your digital strategy will set a strong foundation for your project.

In today’s digital world, students rely on virtual tours to inform their college decision-making. This is why it’s so important to have an exceptional virtual tour that drives students to act.

Identifying Key Locations

Identifying key locations on campus that will be featured in the tour is crucial. Consider areas like the auditorium, dorm rooms, study areas, and popular dining spots. These locations should highlight the unique aspects of your campus and provide a comprehensive view of student life.

Creating a Narrative

Creating a narrative for your virtual tour helps in telling your university's unique story. This can be achieved by combining layered visual content with clickable elements to encourage visitor exploration. A well-crafted narrative will guide prospective students through the tour, making it more engaging and informative.

Setting Goals and Objectives

Setting clear goals and objectives for your virtual tour is vital. Determine what you want to achieve, whether it's increasing inquiries, boosting campus visit rates, or enhancing online presence and engagement. Having defined goals will help in measuring the success of your virtual tour and making necessary improvements.

Capturing High-Quality Visual Content

Using 360° photography.

360° photography is essential for creating immersive virtual tours. Select optimal shooting locations that offer the best perspectives of the place you are showcasing. Consider lighting, ambiance, and visual appeal when selecting locations. Use a tripod to keep your camera steady and frame your images or videos carefully. Avoid distortions by keeping your camera level and centered.

Incorporating Drone Footage

Drones can capture footage of hard-to-reach areas for aerial photography and videography of the location, such as rooftops, cliff faces, and large building interiors. This adds a unique perspective to your virtual tour, making it more engaging and comprehensive.

Optimizing Image Quality

With the display power, internet bandwidth, and camera capabilities that we are exposed to today, it’s no surprise that we crave high-quality experiences . From YouTube videos to Instagram posts, our threshold of what is considered acceptable quality is incredibly high compared to a few years ago. Videos are commonly streaming in HD or better, and many mobile devices can capture and display 4K photos and videos. The more life-like our content is, the more impact it has. Capturing ultra-high-resolution imagery, even if it can’t be fully displayed today, ensures that content can be rendered in higher resolutions down the road. Overall, investing in production quality will pay dividends.

For certain indoor spaces where artificial lighting plays an important role, shoot at dawn, dusk, or night where lighting is more prominent. For outdoor coverage such as a water park or courtyard, shooting the tour during peak summer is recommended. For exteriors and interiors with large window coverage, try to film these points of interest around dusk or dawn when interior/exterior lighting is evenly balanced for brilliant photos.

Integrating Interactive Elements

Integrating interactive elements into your university virtual tour can significantly enhance the user experience. Interactive hot spots and our API integrations can make that happen. The result is maps that no longer live solely in the digital space. Instead, they make themselves accessible to offline users in ways that most digital marketing efforts simply cannot. This seamless integration between in-person and virtual experiences leads to a natural prompt for interactivity.

Choosing the Right Virtual Tour Platform

Selecting the appropriate virtual tour platform is crucial for creating an engaging and seamless experience. Each platform offers unique features and benefits, from custom branding to interactive floor plans. Choosing the right virtual tour software can make a significant difference in the success of your university's virtual tour.

Evaluating Features and Pricing

When evaluating different platforms, consider the features they offer and their pricing structures. Some platforms provide advanced functionalities like virtual tour creator SDK and API , which allow you to create 360° virtual tours quickly and customize them easily. It's essential to balance the cost with the features you need to ensure you get the best value for your investment.

Considering User Experience

The user experience is a critical factor in the success of your virtual tour. Ensure the platform you choose is user-friendly and offers a smooth navigation experience. A platform that is easy to use will not only make the creation process more efficient but also enhance the overall experience for the visitors.

Exploring Customization Options

Customization options are vital for aligning the virtual tour with your university's branding and messaging. Look for platforms that offer extensive customization features, allowing you to tailor the tour to reflect your institution's unique identity. This can include custom branding, interactive elements, and personalized content.

A well-chosen virtual tour platform can significantly enhance the engagement and reach of your university's virtual tour, making it a valuable tool for attracting prospective students and showcasing your campus facilities.

Promoting Your Virtual Tour

Once you are satisfied with your virtual tour, you can publish it and start sharing it with your target audience. Most virtual tour platforms will provide you with a link to your tour , which you can then embed on your website or share through social media.

Analyzing Tour Performance and Engagement

To ensure your university virtual tour is effective, it's crucial to analyze its performance and engagement metrics. Tracking visitor metrics helps you understand how users interact with your tour, providing insights into areas for improvement.

Tracking Visitor Metrics

Visitor metrics are essential for gauging the success of your virtual tour. Key metrics to monitor include:

  • Session Time : The average time a visitor spends on your tour.
  • Pages Viewed : The number of different locations or sections a visitor explores.
  • Bounce Rate : The percentage of visitors who leave the tour after viewing only one page.

Gathering User Feedback

User feedback is invaluable for understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your virtual tour. Consider implementing the following methods to gather feedback:

  • Surveys : Short surveys at the end of the tour can provide direct insights from visitors.
  • Comments : Allowing users to leave comments on specific sections can highlight areas for improvement.
  • Ratings : A simple rating system can quickly show which parts of the tour are most and least popular.

Making Data-Driven Improvements

Once you have collected visitor metrics and user feedback, the next step is to make data-driven improvements. This involves:

  • Analyzing Trends : Look for patterns in the data to identify common issues or popular features.
  • Implementing Changes : Based on your analysis, make targeted changes to enhance the user experience.
  • Continuous Monitoring : Regularly review the performance metrics to ensure ongoing improvement.

By focusing on these key areas, you can create a more engaging and effective virtual tour that meets the needs of prospective students and other visitors.
