How to Turn Off Sharing Between Apple Devices

Are you having trouble with Apple devices sharing content and data between them? If so, you’re not alone. It’s all too easy to accidentally enable sharing across your Apple devices and then find yourself inundated with notifications or files from one device appearing on another. Fortunately, it is possible to turn off sharing between Apple devices and regain control of your personal data.

First, if you are part of a Family Sharing group, you can remove yourself from it (if you’re at least 13 years old). To do this, open Settings > [your name] and look for the Family Sharing tab. Tap Leave Family Sharing, confirm the action, and you will no longer be sharing content with other members in the group.

If you want to stop sharing your iPhone or iPad content individually, go to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. Here, toggle the switch next to “iCloud Drive” to turn off the ability to share items stored in the cloud. You can also turn off Photo Stream by going to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turning off the switch next to Photo Stream.

You can also disable messages sync between devices if you don’t want them shared across your Apple devices. To do this, open the Settings app on your iPad or iPhone and tap on your Apple ID name at the top of the page. Then tap “iCloud” and locate the “Messages” option – next to it toggle it off to disable message sync across devices. Confirm this action by tapping on “Disable and Download Messages”.

Finally, if you don’t want Safari bookmarks shared betwen multiple Apple devices go into Safari settings in each device’s settings app and turn off Safari bookmark syncing under General settings. This will ensure that any bookmarks saved will remain private on each device individually instead of being shared among all your connected Apple products.

By following these steps carefully, you will be able to successfully turn off sharing between all of your Apple devices ensuring that all of your data remains secure and private just as it sould be!

How to Turn Off Sharing Between Apple Devices 1

Stopping Apple Devices from Syncing with Each Other

To stop two Apple devices from syncing with each other, you need to disable the Messages sync option in the iCloud settings on both devices. On your iPad, open the Settings app and tap on your Apple ID name at the top of the menu. Then, tap on “iCloud” and locate the “Messages” option. Toggle the switch next to it to disable sync. Tap on “Disable and Download Messages” to confirm. Repeat this process on your other device to stop messages from syncing between them.

Stopping Sharing Between Devices With the Same Apple ID

If you want to stop sharing content between devices that use the same Apple ID, there are a few steps you can take. First, check to see if you’re part of a Family Sharing group by going to Settings > [your name] and looking for the Family Sharing tab. If you are part of a Family and no longer want to share information, you can remove yourelf as long as you’re 13 or older.

Next, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and tap on your Apple ID at the top of the screen. From here, tap on “View Apple ID” and sign in with your password if prompted. On the next page, scroll down until you find the “iCloud” section and select “Manage”. This brings up a list of all of your iCloud services – turn off any services that you don’t want shared between devices such as iCloud Drive, Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.

Finally, go back to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and toggle off any services that are still enabled such as iCloud Backup or Find My iPhone/iPad. By following these steps you should be able to stop sharing content between devices with the same Apple ID!

Apple devices are incredibly powerful and versatile, offering users a range of features and functions that make them one of the most popular technological devices on the market. With the ability to sync messages between devices, share content with family members, and customize settings to suit individual needs, Apple devices are ideal for both personal and business use. As such, they remain a top choice for consumers looking for a reliable and efficient way to stay connected.

How to stop safari from launching apps on iphone and ipad.

Want to stop Safari from automatically opening apps on your iPhone or iPad? We've got some tricks for that.

Quick Links

Option 1: uninstall the app, option 2: long-press on a link, option 3: use safari in private browsing mode, option 4: lock safari with guided access.

Safari for iPhone and iPad will automatically open many web links in apps. For example, if you tap a LinkedIn, Reddit, or YouTube link on a web page, you'll be taken to the associated app. Here's how to stay in Safari.

Here's why Safari does this: App developers can choose to register their apps with URLs. For example, if you install the LinkedIn app, it will register itself with linkedin.com addresses. Whenever you tap a linkedin.com link in Safari with LinkedIn installed, Safari will take you to the LinkedIn app. Apple doesn't offer a way to disable this for individual apps.

If you really don't like using a service's app and prefer its website, you can uninstall the app from your iPhone or iPad. Safari won't open the app if it's not installed.

To avoid opening an app when opening an individual link, you can long-press it in Safari. A preview of the web page will appear. Tap "Open" to open the link in Safari in the current tab or "Open in New Tab" to open the link in Safari in a background tab.

This will bypass opening the link in the associated app, but you'll have to use the context menu each time. If you find yourself doing this all the time, uninstalling the service's app may save you some time.

In Private Browsing mode, Safari's behavior changes to protect your privacy. Safari will never open a private browsing link in its associated app before asking you first. This helps protect your privacy---after all, you may be signed into the app and it may reveal personal information.

When in Private Browsing mode , you'll receive an "Open in [App]?" prompt after tapping a link if that link would normally open in an app. Tap "Cancel" and Safari will open the link in a normal Private Browsing tab.

However, there is still that extra step after enabling Private Browsing mode---you have to tap "Cancel" rather than just instantly opening the link.

Related: How to Use Safari Private Browsing on an iPhone or iPad

Guided Access mode is a feature on your iPhone or iPad that lets you "lock" your iPhone to a specific app. For example, you might enable this if you want a child to use a specific app on your device (like a game or video player) without accessing anything else (like your email or online banking.)

This feature can stop Safari from opening apps, too: With Guided Access enabled, you can't leave Safari until you disable Guided Access mode. Safari won't even try to open links in other apps.

To set up Guided Access mode, head to Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access. (You can use the search box to search for the Guided Access page in settings, too.) Activate "Guided Access" here.

Next, switch to Safari and triple-click the side button, as explained on the Guided Access settings screen. Tap "Start" to enable Guided Access mode. You'll be prompted to enter a PIN the first time you do this. You'll need this PIN to leave Guided Access mode.

You can now browse and Safari won't offer to open any apps. To leave Safari, you'll have to exit Guided Access mode by triple-clicking the side button once again and entering your PIN. You can tap "Passcode Settings" on the Settings screen where you enabled Guided Access to enable other authentication methods like Touch ID and Face ID.

None of these methods are perfect. You'll either have to uninstall the associated app or do some extra tapping around to avoid opening its links in Safari.

Ideally, Apple would offer a Settings screen that lets you control which apps can take over links just as you can control other app features like location access and notification permissions.

You can also follow the same steps in iPad or Apple Watch to enable or disable Private mode as you need. It is also possible to remove Safari app from iPhone / iPad using Screen Time restrictions though it is not possible to do that in Mac.

Apple just corrected the M2 iPad Air’s core count

A photo of the iPad Air in a cafe setting.

The M2 iPad Air doesn’t come with the 10-core GPU that Apple originally advertised — it actually comes with a nine-core one. In a statement to 9to5Mac , an unnamed Apple spokesperson says it has updated its website “to correct the core count for the M2 iPad Air” but that “all performance claims for the M2 iPad Air are accurate and based on a 9-core GPU.”

The correction from Apple comes after a report from 9to5Mac revealed that the company had quietly changed the core count for its new M2 iPad Air from 10 cores to nine on the page outlining the product’s specs . Apple has also changed the device’s core count on its press release and support page . The Verge reached out to Apple with a request for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.

As Apple tells 9to5Mac , this doesn’t mean the M2 iPad Air’s listed performance is wrong. Apple’s claim that the M2 iPad Air is 50 percent faster than its M1 predecessor still stands.

It’s rare for Apple to issue such a correction, and it’s not clear why the company would change the iPad’s listed specs without telling customers first. Last month, Apple waited a week before acknowledging a bug that resurfaced deleted iPhone photos .

How to stop Safari from sharing bookmarks across user accounts?

I discovered today that I have the same Safari bookmarks in two different user accounts. Adding to or deleting from one does the same to the other. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I do NOT want this to happen. I want them to be totally independent. Adding or removing from one should NOT affect the other; yet it does. Kinda defeats the purpose of having separate accounts, no? Is there some secret setting I'm missing? TIA.

Hi betaneptune,

It sounds like you are likely using iCloud for Safari and it's syncing your bookmarks. You can disable this feature using these instructions if you'd like to keep your bookmarks separate on your user accounts. Just turn off Safari rather than turning it on:

"Set up iCloud for Safari on your Mac

  • On your Mac, do one of the following:

stop ipad sharing safari

  • To see your bookmarks, Reading List, Tab Groups, and tabs open on your other devices, open Safari.

For more information on how to use bookmarks, a Reading List, and tabs on your Mac, see  Bookmark websites that you want to revisit in Safari on Mac ,  Keep a Reading List in Safari on Mac , and  Use tabs for webpages in Safari on Mac  in the Safari User Guide for Mac."

  • Safari Auto-Sharing Bookmarks: How do I stop it? I have a Mac desktop and a MacBook Air. The MacBook air is only used for certain projects: most every file I use is saved in the iCloud; anything of a sensitive nature is not kept here. That is the way I want it, but Safari had different ideas. When I got the laptop, most - but not all - of my bookmarks from my desktop were automatically added to the laptop. This wasn't a transfer; I still use the laptop for most of my work. I'm guessing it was done because of my appleID, I don't really know, but in any event, I do not want this. There are only a few bookmarks I would like to have on the laptop, the rest should not have ever of been addedd. I don't know how this was set up, but I would like to stop it. I am tempted to just delete them all from the laptop, but - as I have no idea how or why they were auto-populated - I am fearful that deleting bookmarks on the laptop will work backwards and delete them off the desktop. I would appreciate any advice on how to stop they two from "sharing" bookmarks and know how to safely remove them from the laptop. If your suggestion is to question why I want to do this, please do not bother posting. Thanks Jim 198 2

The .png links took me to a tiny Apple logo. that's it!

Set up iCloud features on Mac - Apple Support

had what I needed.

I disabled Safari on the Apple ID panel of the account whose bookmarks I did not want to share, and it seems to have worked! Now, we'll have to see if it survives a reboot. Oh, I deleted the unwanted ones on the main account. Yikes! I'll definitely have to see if it still works after a reboot.

BTW, I had to "set up" iCloud on that side account and had to type in several passwords. All that security and still it shared bookmarks between users, which is something I don't want and would think no one would want. All the apps should be unchecked by default. Why would anyone want their bookmarks cluttered up by someone else's?

Anyway, thanks! I had almost given up that someone would have the answer. Thanks again.

Well, it still works after a logout cycle. Bravo! Thanks much. (^_^(
