Ways to stay with us

Unpowered camping

It’s in our nature to nurture.

We’re caretakers of precious parcels of land beyond our parks and right across NSW - recently being named a ‘Certified Social Enterprise.'

In less fancy speak, it means that we love to reinvest profits into public nature reserves, community facilities, local culture, and that we‘re keen to protect what’s important to all of us, so we can enjoy it for many years to come.

For every holiday booking made, we’ll sponsor the release of native threatened fish into our NSW waterways, helping bring those little guys back into the mainstream (bad pun, great program).

The Big Banana is just a six-minute drive from the park and Australia’s original ‘Big Thing’.

Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort, Yamba

Northern NSW

Renowned for its world-class surf and to-die-for prawns, Yamba is perfect for families that love the beach. And there’s no better spot to use as a base to explore this spectacular region of NSW’s North Coast than Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort.

Kids will enjoy sliding down one of the park’s three water slides. Or playing air hockey, pool and arcade games in the games room. There are two pools, a water park, a pool bar, playgrounds and even a mini-golf course in the park. Step out onto the banks of the Clarence River and you’ll be able to snag a huge variety of fish.

For those feeling more adventurous, Blue Dolphin’s hire hut rents out the whole scope of outdoor gear. Whether you’re after go karts, stand-up paddleboards or kayaks, the hire hut has you covered.

The Blue Dolphin is situated on the Clarence River’s sandy shores. Among six hectares of lush landscaped gardens you’ll find a range of accommodation for every budget. Starting from three-bedroom waterview units and waterfront spa villas to a range of ensuite, powered and unpowered campsites. 41 of of the campsites are pet-friendly.

Do… Ride the waves of one of Australia’s best surf breaks, go deep sea fishing, or try Yamba’s famous prawns at local restaurants.

Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort

Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay

Sprawled over 11 hectares of parkland and with direct beach access, Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay has room for all the family, and then some. You can spend your morning spotting koalas, echidnas and wallabies. Then head down to the ocean to spot some much larger wildlife during whale migration season.

With a playground, swimming pool, games room, ball court and kiosk, there’s plenty to get the kids up and about in the notoriously sunny Byron weather.

There’s a range of accommodation options available. 52 cabins range from premium, deluxe or superior villas sleeping up to six, a premium family villa for nine and cabins sleeping up to six. There are 155 campsites either with or without ensuites. There are also a few pet-friendly sites and cabins, meaning pooch can join your next beachside getaway.

Do… The park sits just five minutes’ drive from the town centre. Where you can check out eclectic boutiques and funky cafes. Or head to the Cape Byron Headland Reserve, the most easterly point of mainland Australia. The reserve is the starting place for coastal walks along sweeping beaches and spectacular cliffs. Keep an eye out on the water for dolphins and whales

Visiting NSW National Parks

Q: what should i know before visiting a nsw national park.

A: Most of New South Wales’ national parks and reserves are welcoming visitors, albeit with some restrictions in place, visitor capacity limits and COVID-safe practices to protect your health and safety. Always check the current alerts before travelling and plan well in advance to avoid disappointment on arrival. Here’s some current information that should make your national park experience a little easier:

  • Prepare for the unexpected: With the unpredictable nature of COVID-19, visitors to NSW national parks should allow for unscheduled closures and changes to regulations. Popular areas such as picnic areas and beaches may close at short notice due to maximum visitor numbers, or to ensure compliance with current rules on public gatherings. For peace of mind, avoid peak periods (generally from 11am-2pm), particularly in popular parks like the Royal National Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Perhaps seek out alternatives to the most iconic sights – you may well discover a hidden gem!
  • Book your accommodation online: It’s no longer possible to just rock up to a national park campground – all accommodation, including campsites, cabins and all other rooming, must be booked online. This includes locations that were previously available without a booking. Visit the website to find your chosen campground .  Be aware that there will be limited availability in peak seasons.
  • Backcountry camping: While you do not require formal bookings for backcountry camping in national parks (overnight stays in remote areas where walk-in camping is permitted), you will need to fill out a Trip Intention Form before leaving home. This is used to register your plans in case of an emergency.
  • Hygiene and physical distancing: By now, we should all be familiar with COVID-19 hygiene recommendations, which apply during your visit to a national park: practice physical distancing, comply with rules on public gatherings, and maintain good hygiene, including regular washing of hands. As access to sanitation products and running water cannot be guaranteed, make sure you pack hand soap, sanitiser and wipes. If a national park or other public space is too crowded to practice physical distancing, it is your responsibility to leave the area. NPWS officers and NSW Police will be patrolling national parks to ensure that visitors comply with regulations and public health orders. If you are feeling unwell, you must stay at home.
  • Fees, access and general information: Entry to some NSW national parks incurs a fee, payable at an entry station or at pay machines. Some locations may not currently be accepting cash, so make sure a card is available for use. If you are a regular parks visitor, it’s recommended you buy an annual pass  to save on entry fees. (Note that all annual passes and some day passes are now digital passes linked to your vehicle. Annual passes can be purchased online and are not available at entry stations.) Remember dogs and other pets are not permitted in national parks, and you must take care when visiting fragile Aboriginal or other significant historic sites. When driving through national parks, watch out for wildlife and be cautious on unsealed roads.

Creative Communities, Tourism and Night-life Boost

Published: 18 June 2024

Released by: Minister for the Arts, Minister for Jobs, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, Minister for Tourism

The arts and night-time economy will get a boost in the 2024-25 NSW Budget with $1.66 billion allocated to support free museum entry, events and festivals, and a wide range of arts and cultural institutions, ensuring NSW remains an attractive and lively place.

The funding will support jobs across the creative, tourism, and night-time sectors.

During a cost-of-living crisis where many people are doing it tough, this investment will help to develop vibrant communities as we build more affordable homes across the State.

This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to revamp the night-time economy and creative industries, building better communities that improve the lives of people in NSW.

Plans for Sustainable Creative Communities

The 2024-25 Budget invests in creative people and enterprises, including:

  • Destination NSW: $324.5 million to deliver the events calendar across metro and regional NSW, including Vivid Sydney, SXSW Sydney, Mundi Mundi Bash, Parkes Elvis Festival, and a range of sporting events, and drive the refreshed Visitor Economy Strategy 2030.
  • Arts and Cultural Funding Program: $73 million to support grassroots and community arts organisations.
  • Screen and Digital Games: $35 million for the Made in NSW Fund, as well as ongoing investment to provide certainty for the Post-Production and Visual Effects rebate scheme.
  • Night-Time Economy: $26.9 million to support the development of vibrant, safe, and diverse night-time precincts across the State and the delivery of the refreshed NSW 24-Hour Economy Strategy.
  • Music: $18.5 million for Sound NSW to deliver programs that drive audience and international market development, strengthen the live music industry, and champion NSW artists.
  • From 1 July 2024, the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport will formally come into effect. The new Department will provide a renewed focus to grow the creative industries in NSW, and enable more people to pursue careers in arts, culture, entertainment, and experience tourism.
  • A new Visitor Economy Strategy for Destination NSW will prioritise the development of a ‘Foundation events’ category, recognising and supporting the role that key events play, such as New Year's Eve, Sydney Festival, Lunar New Year, NRL Grand Final, Sydney Film Festival, and Sydney Fringe, play in the events calendar of the State.
  • The NSW Government will deliver further reforms to support venues, event organisers, and councils as part of its ‘Vibrancy’ agenda, including legislating to make it easier to host events and festivals, and streamlining planning processes that are restricting cultural activity.
  • The NSW Government will reform the Arts and Cultural Funding Program to deliver a simpler, fairer, and faster model for arts funding that will drive long-term growth and sustainability for the sector.

Cultural Institutions Supporting Creative Communities

NSW’s key cultural institutions continue to be valued and supported with an investment of $585.6 million to ensure their sustainable futures, as crucial parts of the State’s cultural infrastructure and sites of excellence. This includes:

  • Art Gallery of NSW: A total expense budget of $114.39 million, including $8.8 million of new funding to cover non-discretionary costs and ensure the Art Gallery remains free to enter for families and individuals and continues to be a free place of learning for our school children across NSW.
  • Qtopia: $10.5 million capital investment in 2024-25 for the completed delivery of Sydney’s first Centre for Queer History and Culture. This will bring the total funding to $11.2 million for the Fund Qtopia election commitment.
  • Australian Museum’s Spirit House: $2.5 million investment in the biodiversity library which preserves more than 1.3 million unique artefacts. This will support the preservation of nationally significant cultural objects.
