Seabourn Bound For Europe In 2023 With A Wealth Of Ultra-Luxury Voyages Visiting Nearly 170 Destinations

COURTESY Seabourn: SEATTLE, July 20, 2021 – Seabourn, the ultra-luxury cruise line, is already looking ahead to summer in Europe in 2023, announcing itineraries for four Seabourn ships set to explore the continent that fills many travel bucket lists from late March to early December. The line’s 2023 Europe season opens for sale on July 21, 2021, and full itineraries and details are available on its website.

First-time and returning Seabourn guests have much to consider and ultimately to choose from throughout Europe, with a wealth of handcrafted itineraries mixing favorite cities and lesser-visited ports, including several new and/or notable destinations. Four of Seabourn’s ultra-luxury ships will explore Europe with elegance and ease, including Seabourn Encore, Seabourn Quest, Seabourn Ovation and Seabourn Sojourn. Together, the fleet will offer 194 individual departures from a variety of different embarkation gateways. The season will include cruises of seven to 38 days around Europe, visiting nearly 170 different destinations. The ships will sail the Mediterranean from the Canary Islands and Morocco, through Iberia and Italy to the Adriatic, and Croatia, Greece and Turkey. Travelers can also explore Northern Europe, visiting shining cities, picturesque villages and stunning sights of Scandinavia and Russia, the Norwegian fjords, scenic British Isles, and Greenland and Iceland.

“Every year, Seabourn’s season in Europe gets more and more exciting, and 2023 will be no different with a wide selection of ultra-luxury cruises for guests who really want to explore this region that is filled with favorite places,” said Josh Leibowitz, president of Seabourn. “Seabourn was the first ultra-luxury cruise brand and we are the experts in European luxury travel, and with each season we provide more access to opportunities and explorations that guests can’t find anywhere else. Our four ships will offer desirable overnight stays, new and notable ports of call, and selected itineraries enhanced by popular onboard programming and shore excursions sure to excite the most seasoned travelers.”

Seabourn strives to fill its itineraries with the most interesting ports of call, and its 2023 Europe season will feature 16 “new and notable” destinations the line either hasn’t previously visited or hasn’t been to in years. They include Marbella and Alicante, Spain; Agadir, Morocco; Penzance, United Kingdom; Marmaris, Turkey; Livadi, Naousa, Kavala (Neapolis), Milos, and Poros, Greece; Ystad, Sweden; Gdansk, Poland, Port Pionersky (Kaliningrad), Russia; Riga, Latvia; Rønne, Bornholm, Denmark; and Hamilton, Bermuda.

Here is what to look forward to from each of the Seabourn ultra-luxury ships that will be bound for Europe in 2023:

Seabourn Sojourn’s Europe season is scheduled from May 27 to November 3, 2023, with a new focus on 10-day voyages throughout the Western Mediterranean, offering more in-depth experiences and reaching smaller destinations. Highlights include The Rivieras with itineraries between Monte Carlo and Barcelona, as well as off-the-beaten-track destinations such as Sanary Sur Mer, St. Raphael, Golfo Aranci and La Ciotat. Seabourn Sojourn’s round-trip itineraries between Spain and Morocco will include evenings in Casablanca and Tangier, as well as late nights in Malaga. The 10-day voyages from Barcelona to Rome will sail east to Malta and Gozo, with the latter as an exclusive stopping point as Seabourn is one of the few cruise lines to venture to the site of the Ggantija Temples, one of the world’s oldest free-standing structures. Seabourn Sojourn will offer 43 itineraries, ranging from 10-day cruises to 30-day combinations, among them the 10-day Romance on the Riviera, 20-day France, Italy & Maltese Gems, and 30-day Best of the Mediterranean.

Seabourn Encore will explore the Eastern Mediterranean from April 23 to November 19, 2023, with seven-day voyages of the Greek Isles and Turkish coast providing numerous departures through twin itineraries that invite combinations with Mykonos and Ephesus in one direction, and Santorini and Bodrum in the other. New highlights include an extra pair of Holy Land sailings, an enhanced itinerary from Athens to Haifa visiting ports such as Antalya and Alanya on the South coast of Turkey, and two additional 10-day voyages round-trip from Athens, with mid-cruise overnights in Istanbul. There will also be 11-day voyages round-trip from Athens to take guests to Malta, Italy and Turkey. Taken together, Seabourn Encore will offer 78 itineraries ranging from 7-day cruises, which can also be combined to create 14- and 21-day adventures, with highlights including the 7-day Greek & Dalmatian Delights, 14-day Aegean Marvels, and the 21-day Mediterranean Mysteries & the Holy Land.

Seabourn Quest will explore the Western Mediterranean in 2023, with its season running from March 26 to July 31. The ship will focus on 10- and 11-day itineraries, providing in-depth explorations of the Adriatic. Among new itineraries are 10-day voyages round-trip from Venice that will reach as far south as Corfu, Parga and Zakinthos; and 11-day voyages round-trip from Venice that will reach Malta and Syracusa with a berth in the heart of the city. Also, Seabourn will be the only line heading to the nearby super-yacht port of Tivat, Montenegro. Seabourn Quest finishes its Europe season with a 24-day Route of the Vikings, from Dover to Montreal exploring the British Isles, Iceland, Greenland, and the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Quebec, with exciting Ventures by Seabourn offerings along the way. Altogether, Seabourn Quest will offer 24 itineraries ranging from 7-day voyages to combination cruises up to 38 days, including the 7-day Riviera Escapades, the 21-day Jewels of the Venetian Empire, the 24-day Route of the Vikings, and the 36-day New World Exploration II.

Seabourn Ovation will cruise Northern Europe and the Western Mediterranean from April 9 to November 19, 2023. New 10- and 11-day itineraries from London to Stockholm and back will visit a number of ports Seabourn has not explored in years, including Skagen, Denmark; Ystad, Sweden; Gdansk, Poland; and Kaliningrad, Russia – the last, a true maiden call. The itinerary will also offer a late night in Hamburg and a full transit call in Copenhagen staying into the evening. There will also be the line’s popular 7-day Baltic and St. Petersburg voyages between Copenhagen and Stockholm, as well as 14-day Norway and North Cape itineraries where Seabourn truly shines by cruising the inside passage, highly scenic routes. Seabourn Ovation will offer a total of 49 itineraries through the season, ranging from seven days to combinations up to 28 days, including 7-day The Baltic & St. Petersburg, 10-day Scandinavian Snapshot, and 21-day Mediterranean and Iberian Tapestry.

Optional Ventures by Seabourn expedition-style excursions will highlight three North Cape & Majestic Fjords cruises on Seabourn Ovation and the Route of the Vikings cruise on Seabourn Quest. Highlights of the former within Norway include exploring the Aurlandsfjord and its surrounding islands via kayak; visiting the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden in Tromso; and exploring Nordfjord by Zodiac with a cable car ride to the viewpoint at Hoven Loen. For the latter, there will be a Zodiac tour of Heimaey Island in Iceland; a Zodiac transfer followed by a walking tour of the Hvalsey Norse Ruins in Qaqortoq (Julianehab), Greenland; and a Calve Island kayak tour in Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Scotland…to name a few.

Guests will also have opportunities to take their travels further with the Seabourn Journeys collection, featuring pre- and post-voyage land-based packages to explore iconic landmarks that are best experienced beyond a scheduled port call.

Seabourn (seabourn.com) is a luxury cruise line (1986-founded, operational since 1988) headquartered in Seattle (WA USA) well-established as an ultra-luxury, expedition-style travel brand. Seabourn operates global itineraries - from short breaks in the Caribbean to exotic 100+ day-long voyages around the world.

Seabourn is owned by Carnival Corporation and is part of the "World's Leading Cruise Lines" group, which also includes AIDA , CCL-Carnival , Costa , Cunard , HAL-Holland America Line , Princess and P&O .

NEWS : On May 24, 2022, CNBC rumored that Carnival Corporation is in discussions with Saudi Arabia's PIF-Public Investment Fund to sell Seabourn.

Company history

Seabourn Cruise Line was founded in 1986 under the name "Signet Cruise Lines" by Atle Brynestad (Norwegian private investor) and Erland Raastad (president of the companies "Kloster Cruise" and "Royal Viking Line").

The name "Seabourn Cruise Line" was adopted shortly afterward, following objections over trademark ownership by Signet Oil & Gas Co (Colorado USA).

Seabourn's current President is Natalya Leahy, who (in March 2023) replaced Josh Leibowitz. She was previously employed as Holland America Group's COO (Chief Operating Officer) managing the Carnival Corporation's subsidiaries Princess, Holland America Line, Seabourn, and P&O Australia.

Seabourn Cruises logo

Seabourn Pride (the company's first vessel) entered service in 1988, followed by sistership Seabourn Spirit in 1989. A third boat (originally planned for 1990) was delayed due to financial constraints. The vessel was eventually purchased by Royal Viking Line (1972-founded/1998- defunct ) and launched in 1992 as "Royal Viking Queen". In 1994, it was transferred to Royal Cruise Line as "Queen Odyssey".

In 1991, Carnival Corporation purchased a 25% stake in Seabourn. In 1996, Carnival upped its stake to 50%, providing Seabourn with the needed capital to buy Queen Odyssey (renamed Seabourn Legend). In 1998, Carnival Corporation purchased the remaining 50% stake in Seabourn, acquired Cunard Line (from Kvaerner ASA), and finally merged the two brands into the Cunard Line entity.

In 1999, three Cunard liners (Royal Viking Sun, Sea Goddess I, Sea Goddess II) were transferred to Seabourn under new names (respectively, Seabourn Sun, Seabourn Goddess I, Seabourn Goddess II). In 2001, Carnival Corporation bought out the NCL-Norwegian shares. Seabourn's parent company became Carnival's wholly-owned subsidiary. Seabourn Goddess 1 and Seabourn Goddess 2 were purchased for SeaDream Yacht Club by Atle Brynestad (Seabourn's founder).

In 2002, Seabourn Sun was transferred to Holland America Line (Carnival-owned subsidiary), thus reducing Seabourn's fleet to the three original vessels. The company was demerged from Cunard and reorganized as an independent brand (still part of Carnival Corporation). On March 31, 2011, Seabourn Cruise Line ceased operations from Miami Florida USA and transferred its operations to Holland America's headquarters in Seattle WA .

In 2014, Seabourn Pride left the fleet and was transferred (as Star Pride ) to Windstar . In 2015, Seabourn Legend and Seabourn Spirit were also transferred to Windstar (now Star Legend and Star Breeze ).

Company changes

Since 2018, Seabourn offers fleetwide "K+M Chocolate" products. These are high-quality chocolates by the "Keller Manni Chocolate" company (founders Michelin chef Thomas Keller and Armando Manni / olive oil producer from Italy). The custom-made for Seabourn chocolates are hand-crafted (produced in Napa Valley, California). Among the signature flavors are the milk-based hazelnut, smoked chili, blood orange, cherry, as well as the dark chocolate "sea salt".

In late-March 2019, Seabourn signed a partnership with Pixvana Inc (Seattle-based company) to create TableVision (virtual reality/interactive training platform based on Pixvana's SPIN Studio) for Main Dining Room waitstaff training.

On August 15, 2019, Seabourn opened bookings for its new "Private Air" program (privately chartered jet service) that allows customers to fly to homeports/departure cruise ports via private jets rather than commercial airlines. The new service is global and offers a variety of private jet aircraft (as models and sizes) to charter, accommodating groups of any size (upon request) and plane capacity 5 to 16 passengers. Seabourn's fly-cruise packages offer access to thousands of airports (private and commercial) worldwide. Pricing varies by aircraft and itinerary and is inclusive of cruise and flight fares, valet luggage service, onboard food and drinks (including caviar, champagne and premium spirits by the glass), onboard Wi-Fi, transfers (to/from home, airports, seaports) and next-port protection (up to 1000 mi).

On June 6, 2022, NCLH announced an expansion of its fleetwide sustainability program "Sail & Sustain". Extending its animal welfare policy, the shipowner is now fully committed to responsible animal food sourcing practices (regarding pork, chicken, eggs, and seafood) within the global fleet's supply chain. The goal is by the year 2025, fleetwide (NCL, Oceania, Regent) to be sourced only cage-free eggs, crate-free pork, certified sustainable seafood, and chicken purchased from American and Canadian suppliers who meet GAP (Global Animal Partnership) standards.

In March 2023, Carnival Corporation (shipowner) sold the 14-year-old Seabourn Odyssey to the Japanese shipping company MOL (Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd) . Along with the sale, Seabourn signed a time-charter arrangement with MOL that allowed the company to operate Odyssey's voyages scheduled thru October 11, 2024.

In June 2023 was introduced new 24-hour in-cabin dining menus listing gourmet dishes prepared by Anton Egger (company's Master Chef and Culinary Consultant Chef) and Franck Salein (company's Senior Corporate Chef). Introduced on Seabourn Venture in June, the new menus were rolled out fleetwide by October.

In July 2023, Seabourn's culinary program was expanded with new dishes (in The Restaurant/main dining room) fleetwide as well as "Sushi in the Club" (on select ships). Most dishes are made with the freshest, locally sourced ingredients (depending on the visited regions/destinations). The Restaurant's upgraded menu includes new appetizers (Oyster au Gratin with Champagne, Fresh Oysters on Ice/with caviar and vodka) and new entrees (Lobster En Bellevue Parisienne, Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon/Roquefort Crusted Beef Tenderloin, Pan Seared Sablefish/Baked Crusted Cod with Tomatoes). "Sushi in the Club" (on the ships Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest) is available every night (between 6-9 PM) and offers fresh-made sushi bites served with sake.

In October 2023 was announced that on Seabourn Quest in January 2024 debuts the fleet's first Solis Restaurant. The premium dining venue offers daily prepared dishes of contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is based on the Mediterranean destinations/regions visited by Seabourn, including the Italian and French Rivieras (Central Med) as well as Turkey and the Greek islands (Aegean). Solis Restaurant's menu was developed by Anton Egger (Seabourn's Master Chef) and Franck Salein (Seabourn's Senior Corporate Executive Chef). The new restaurant has limited seating, provides a chic atmosphere and also offers a large selection of premium wine brands and a separate cocktail menu. In 2024-Q2, Solis will be rolled out on three other Seabourn ships (Encore, Ovation, Sojourn).

On February 21, 2023, Seabourn signed a multi-year ship charter agreement/exclusive partnership with APT Travel Group (Australian Pacific Touring) for chartering two ships (Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit). APT expedition cruises were scheduled for 2025 with a deployment in Northern Europe (UK, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland), Australia/Kimberley, and Antarctica in 2025. The charter deal was signed by Natalya Leahy (Seabourn) and David Cox (APT's CEO).

In March 2024 was appointed Mike Fulkerson as VP/Vice President nd CMO/Chief Marketing Officer. He has 20+ years of experience in chief marketing positions, serving companies like Canyon Ranch (hospitality/resorts, spas, culinary), Marriott International Inc (hotels, residential and timeshare properties), Mattel Inc (toy manufacturing and entertainment), Activision Publishing Inc (video game publisher, parent of Activision Blizzard).

In 2016 and 2018, the fleet joined two newbuilds - Encore and Ovation .

Seabourn Cruises new ship

Compared to the Odyssey-class units, the new boats are ~1/5 larger in size (LOA 210 m, volume 40350 GT-tons), ~1/3rd bigger as passenger capacity (638 max), with 1 additional deck (12 decks), re-designed venues, expanded public spaces, biggest Spa at sea, new onboard programming. Traditionally for Seabourn ships, all passenger cabins (all-suite categories) are with private balconies.

In July 2018, Seabourn signed a letter of intent with "MARIOTTI DAMEN Cruise" for building 2 polar-class expedition ships with the following specifications.

  • length 170 m
  • GT tonnage 23,000 tons
  • ice-strengthened hull (PC6 ice-class)
  • 132 balcony cabins
  • capacity 264 passengers plus 120 crew (including 26 expedition crew of experts - scientists, historians, naturalists)
  • 2 mini-submarines (6-guest, by U-Boat Worx), sea kayaks, 24x Zodiacs (RIBs/inflatable motorized boats used for near-shore cruising, landings and tendering)
  • shell doors (at waterline level) allow convenient access to the Zodiacs.

The total open-deck space is approx 2750 m2 (29,600 ft2).

The first vessel ( Venture ) was scheduled for June 2021 (later postponed to December 2021, April 2022, and. eventually, July 2022). The second unit ( Pursuit ) was initially planned for delivery in 2022 (May) but was postponed to March 2023.

Seabourn's 30th Anniversary (2018)

In 2018, the company celebrated its 30th Anniversary featuring as highlights:

  • Fleet expansion - from 4 to 5 vessels with the launch of Seabourn Ovation in May 2018.
  • Adding new onboard cocktail offerings, including "Passion Pearls" cocktail by Brian van Flandern.
  • Introducing a new "30th Anniversary Wine Package" with price-inclusive quality champagnes and wines.
  • At the shipboard Shops were available for purchasing a unique collection of pearls and 30th Anniversary themed logo merchandise.

  • Also in 2018 were introduced new onboard programs, including two Wellness Cruises (led by Dr. Andrew Weil).
  • The company's 2018 itinerary program included over 170 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a selection of Seabourn Journeys (shore tours).

Seabourn's ship cruising experience

The travel brand Seabourn was established on the principle that personal service in stylish surroundings would appeal to independent-minded, sophisticated passengers with lifestyles that demand the best.

The original Seabourn megayachts and their new fleet mates have been lovingly maintained and proved to be a great success over the years. Recognized as a leading small-ship luxury line, Seabourn delivers all extras, expected by its clientele - a stocked minibar in all suites, elegant amenities, complimentary wines, and spirits.

Seabourn Cruise Line's guests may also expect the unexpected - from exclusive luggage tags and travel document portfolios to the pleasure of a complimentary massage while lounging at the pool. Seabourn will even arrange for your luggage to be picked up at home and delivered to your suite.

The line presents an intimate and exceptional cruising experience. The smaller size of its vessels allows calling at smaller ports and up-close-and-personal encounters with the destination.

The atmosphere onboard is elegant but unpretentious. All rooms are suites, equipped with designer soaps, and the latest amenities, such as flat-screen televisions and Bose Wave sound systems. A bottle of champagne greets all guests in the cabin. Beds are dressed with Egyptian cotton linens and fluffy duvet covers with feather pillows. A well-stocked in-suite bar and Pure Pampering therapeutic bathing menu are provided in each suite. In addition, guests benefit from the services of a Personal Suite Stewardess, ready to cater to every need.

The abundance of public space makes passengers feel as if they have the vessel to themselves - no annoying lines or crowds here. Bar drinks are complimentary. Seabourn cruise ship passengers may choose to dine when and where they want on any of the luxurious ships of the line. Each dining venue offers a different atmosphere and different dishes, but all use innovative cooking techniques and perfect ingredients like Black River Ossetra Caviar.

Seabourn Cruises new ships

Daily team trivia contests, lectures, wine tastings, and other quiet pursuits are usually scheduled, but most passengers are satisfied to just do what pleases them. Focused on personalized service, the line has designed unique programs like Caviar in the Surf and Shopping With the Chef, to further enhance onboard experience.

Seabourn's liners attract a broad mix of ages (40-something and above), and offer a variety of itineraries from more mainstream calls to the offbeat, in order to continue to draw new passengers.

While most of the cruisers are likely to be American, Seabourn appeals to well-off and well-traveled vacationers from a variety of countries, particularly English-speaking Great Britain, South Africa, and Australia, among others.

In 2019, Seabourn signed a partnership deal with the company "Shaoching Bishop and Chef Thomas Keller" to provide fleetwide the Regiis Ova Caviar brand. The company partners directly with selected sturgeon farms to source high-quality caviar.

Shipboard smoking policy

According to the new Seabourn Cruises smoking policy (implemented in 2017), smoking is not allowed in all the ship's indoor venues, also in cabins and on cabin balconies.

Smoking is also banned in the ships' Observation Lounge (previously allowed after 8 pm). Smoking is allowed on Sky Bar's open-air starboard area (midship Deck 9 / Deck 10 on Encore and Ovation ships) and also on the starboard open-air pool terrace of The Club lounge (Deck 5 aft).

Smoking cigarettes, as well as cigars and pipes smoking is allowed on Seabourn Square lounge's open-air terrace (deck 7 aft).

Smoking E-cigarettes in cabins is allowed.

Passengers who don't comply with the company's smoking policy are fined a cleaning fee (USD 250 per day).

“Seabourn Source” Web App

The Seabourn Source app was launched in August 2017. It can be accessed by all passengers (on a complimentary basis) and fleetwide. Seabourn Source offers up-to-the-minute access to the voyage's daily details directly on passengers' smartphones, tablets or laptops. Users can tap the new app to instantly:

  • stay on top of shipboard account records;
  • review daily activity as well as entertainment schedules;
  • track port times (arrivals and departures);
  • peruse meal times and menus for all dining venues;
  • browse and book shore trips;
  • learn about wellness classes and spa treatments;
  • connect to paid satellite internet.

The mobile app further connects cruisers to the company’s complimentary digital newspaper-magazine PressReader Offline, which offers full editions of 2500+ global media sources. They can be downloaded to personal Android or iOS devices while at sea or in port. Seabourn Source operates on a shipboard network, so users do not incur additional Internet/cellular data charges while in use.

Loyalty program

The company's loyalty program ("Seabourn Club") allows earning membership points for each day. Accumulated points (onboard days) count toward Milestone Awards. The most expensive offer is a free cruise - up to 7-day itinerary (with 140 Sailed Days) and up to 14-day itinerary (with 250 Sailed Days). Every Milestone is also celebrated with an onboard event and a jewelry gift (by Tiffany & Co)

In addition to Milestone Awards, passengers earn Seabourn Club Points qualifying them for bonus perks. Seabourn points establish the membership levels.

Each onboard day earns 1 Club Point.

Each onboard day in Penthouse or Premium Suite earns 1 additional Club Point.

Each night on escorted Seabourn Journeys (shore excursions) earns 1 Club Point.

Every USD 500 spent on onboard and pre-cruise online purchases earns 1 Club Point.

The next table shows all the benefits provided by the Seabourn Club loyalty program.

The cruises also incorporate Seabourn's Ventures by Seabourn program, offering expedition-style excursions such as kayaking, Zodiac cruising, and hiking for those interested.

Subsequently, beginning in September, Seabourn Sojourn , boasting 225 cabins, embarks on a series of fall foliage cruises between Montreal and New York . 2025-2026 (ships Ovation, Encore, Quest, Sojourn)

Seabourn Introduces Enhanced Groups Programs for Travel Advisors

  • June 9, 2024

Seabourn Odyssey

Seabourn has announced an enhanced group program that aims to amplify travel advisors’ opportunities, according to a press release.

In addition to bringing additional prospects, the new Seabourn Enhanced Groups Program was designed to streamline communication and simplify the group booking process, the company said.

The program introduces a revamped Tour Conductor Credit, offers shipboard credits or bonus commission for bookings, eliminates the need for deposits for smaller group allotments and increases group capacity.

“Seabourn has a long history of delivering incredible groups, incentives, and charter experiences, and this new program underscores our dedication to consistently refining and enriching the group booking process for travel advisors,” said Steve Smotrys, Seabourn’s vice president of sales & trade relations.

“Whether it’s marking a special milestone or arranging a corporate gathering, we look forward to warmly welcoming groups on board for an incredible voyage, all while delivering unparalleled ultra-luxury and service.”

Effective for all groups for voyages sailing Fall 2025 and beyond, the program offers great value with the new Tour Conductor Credit, Seabourn said.

The credit can be used to escort groups, add value or improve margins. When travel advisors book nine full-fare guests, the 10th sails at a reduced fare.

The enhanced program also includes a renewed focus on sailings in the Accelerated Tier, providing an expanded list of select voyages that allows booking of seven full-fare guests, with the eighth guest sailing at a reduced fare.

The simplified Tour Conductor Credit calculation for the reduced-fare guest is the weighted average of all fares paid within the group.

Other benefits include Flexibility for Business, with the option to choose between a shipboard credit or bonus commission.

According to Seabourn, it offers combinable shipboard credit of up to $500 per suite, allowing travel advisors to elevate the onboard experience for their clients, integrating it with most public shipboard credit offers and National Account shipboard credit programs.

Alternatively, advisors can increase the value of their bookings by earning up to 5% bonus commission per suite.

The new program also includes Exclusive Groups Events, allowing travel advisors to create additional Seabourn Moments through exclusive group events.

For example, upon request, groups can receive a private cocktail party, including a visit from a Seabourn officer to welcome the group to their cruise.

Advisors can also take advantage of additional conditions that include a no-deposit requirement and increased capacity.

For groups of up to 10 suites, no deposit is required to hold an allocation of suites. For groups of 11 or more suites, a refundable deposit per suite will be required.

Travel advisors can now hold more suite allotments to accommodate large groups with Seabourn directly in the online portal without any forms or approvals needed.

Find the best cruise for you

Featured cruise deals, cruising guide, why take a cruise vacation.

If you have a place on your bucket list, chances are, a cruise will get you there – provided the destination is along a coastline or inland waterway. Cruises cover the world, taking millions of passengers each year to regions such as the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Alaska, Europe, the Mediterranean and even Antarctica. Cruising offers a tremendous value, with trips that include your lodging, meals and entertainment – all rolled into one. Some luxury cruise lines even offer fully inclusive vacations, which cover drinks and tours ashore. And best of all, cruising means seeing the world conveniently after unpacking only once.

Cruises also provide a wonderful option for families, with many ships offering things like waterslides, mini-golf courses and fun clubs for kids, tweens and teens. While most are free, nursery programs can cost extra. Planning is easy: Pick your destination and the right ship (and line) for your travel style. The cruise line makes it simple, offering packages to help you save on extras like alcohol, shore tours or even airfare.

Travelers say they choose to cruise because cruising often costs less per night when compared with land vacations at a hotel, where they'll have to book -- and pay for -- every extra.

What are Tips for Finding Cheap Cruises?

If you're a flexible traveler, you'll have a better chance of finding cheap cruises. Take a cruise that doesn't sail over the summer or holidays, when prices are highest. Book an inside cabin, or take your chances with a "guarantee cabin," ideal for passengers who aren't picky about their stateroom location but really want the lowest price available. Book cabins on lower decks, which often come with lower prices than those rooms on higher floors – that is staterooms over suites.

Cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International offer rates that might drop as low as $75 per person per night -- and sometimes even lower.

If you want a real bargain, consider a transatlantic or repositioning cruise. These cruises are one-way or open-jaw trips, that start in one port and finish at another. You can score a deal sailing from Florida to Europe, for example, or even from New York to Florida. Just be aware, you'll probably have to pay a bit more for airfare to return.

What are Tips to Finding Last-Minute Cruise Deals?

While being flexible date wise will always get you the best last-minute cruise deals, it's particularly helpful if you live near a cruise port and can quickly drive there. That way you'll probably be able to jump on those deals that might pop up just a week or two before the ship is scheduled to sail.

Or if you don't have flexibility with either departure dates or embarkation locations, be willing to compromise on exact destinations. This will allow you to find a wider range of last-minute deals traveling to locations in their off-season or so-called shoulder season.

Do plenty of research and know what your ideal cruise is and costs on average, so both are already on your radar. When you see it drop, pounce! (Many cruise lines update pricing several times per day, so preparation is crucial.)

Best cruises in 2024

There's truly a cruise style and ship for everyone, and that has never been more the case than in 2024, as vessels continue to come in an array of sizes – from riverboats and expedition vessels to the largest-ever mega ships. And it's not an exaggeration to say some are loaded with so many activities that you couldn't possibly enjoy them all in a single sailing.

Families will find plenty of options and activities onboard big ships, which have transformed cruising, making the vessels as exciting as the destinations themselves. The Caribbean is always a great option for families, offering lots of sunshine, great beaches and culture. Alaska, famous for its incredible vistas and abundant wildlife, is also a solid family cruise option. Consider cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and even Celebrity Cruises and Holland America Line for a great multi-generational voyage.

Or on the smaller side, by comparison, river cruising remains a hot ticket item this year, with exciting routes that send eager guests down the Danube or Rhine rivers in Europe or to lesser-frequented locations, like the Mekong River in Cambodia or Vietnam, or soon the Magdalena River in Colombia. Popular river cruises embark in timeless cities like Amsterdam, Budapest and Lisbon. River cruise lines to consider encompass Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Emerald Cruises, Tauck, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and Riverside Luxury Cruises, as well as American Cruise Lines for a domestic alternative.

If you're an adventurer at heart, an expedition cruise might be best for you. These voyages, often onboard small ships (only a few hundred passengers tops), offer an intimate experience that brings passengers right up next to glaciers, whales, penguins and iguanas. Ships visit tiny spots all over the world – from pole to pole – including the Arctic, Alaska, Australia, Greenland, the Galapagos and, of course, Antarctica. Passengers will spend their time zodiacing, kayaking, hiking, biking and exploring with expert guides and knowledgeable naturalists. Expedition travelers love cruise lines such as Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic, UnCruise Adventures, Silversea, HX (formerly Hurtigruten Expeditions), Ponant and Quark Expeditions, as well as an ever-expanding list that now even extends to Seabourn and Viking.

But for the most decadent form of travel, luxury cruises offer all-inclusive experiences onboard small to median-sized ships (usually under a thousand passengers) with perks like butlers, high-end amenities and personalized, intuitive service, not to mention the finest dining at sea. Ships often feature luxury touches like marble and crystal decor, intimate spaces and beautiful spas. Because luxury ships tend to be on the smaller size, they can often reach off-the-beaten-path destinations bigger ships simply cannot access -- ports like St. Tropez or Guadeloupe. If you're looking for a luxury cruise, consider Crystal, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silversea, Explora Journeys, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and upcoming Four Seasons Yachts.

The 13 Best Solo Cruises for 2024 (No Supplement Fare)

W hether you're embarking on your first cruise alone or you've been on solo cruises before, single travelers will find more options than ever when it comes to cruising solo. Many cruise lines offer single staterooms with the same amenities as other cabins, at a price similar to what you'd pay with double occupancy fares. You'll also find special promotions where the single supplement fee is reduced or waived, making it more affordable to reserve a spacious stateroom or luxurious suite with even more amenities – including personalized butler service, an added perk of booking with many luxury lines .

If you're ready for a maritime adventure, an extended vacation or simply a quick getaway from home, these top cruise lines offer some of the best options for solo travelers on waterways around the world.

Lines with solo accommodations and waived fees

Norwegian cruise line.

Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic was the first cruise ship in the industry to feature studio accommodations for solo travelers. Norwegian Cruise Line offers this category on nine of the 19 ships in its fleet, including the newest ship, Norwegian Viva. These cabins, at an average size of 100 square feet, are designed and priced with the solo traveler in mind. They have no single supplements – and studio rooms on board Norwegian Bliss even boast virtual windows.

Guests of the studios get access to the private Studio Lounge. In this exclusive space, you can socialize with other solo travelers and enjoy complimentary refreshments. There are also singles meetups throughout the voyage and plenty of fun-filled onboard activities to mingle with like-minded cruisers. Solo travelers can check out all the fun for singles on Norwegian Viva this winter on a cruise to the Caribbean , or in spring 2024 as the ship sets sail for the Mediterranean .

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises offers interior and balcony solo cabins for single cruisers on its Meraviglia-class ships: the MSC Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and the newest vessel in the fleet, MSC Euribia. The second-newest ship, MSC World Europa, has 28 cabins – 10 Studio Interior and 18 Studio Ocean View staterooms – designed specifically for solo travelers. MSC World America, set to debut in 2025, will also feature the solo studio staterooms.

During voyages with MSC Cruises , single cruisers are invited to a complimentary, hosted cocktail party to mix and mingle with other solo travelers. The daily program is also an excellent source to discover additional activities, entertainment and opportunities to meet other cruisers. You'll have onboard special events like the themed 70s-inspired Flower Party and the White Party, where the ship is decked out in festive white decor and guests don their best white attire. In addition, there are various sports tournaments, or you can show off your culinary expertise during a MasterChef competition.

MSC's Caribbean and Bahamas cruises departing from Miami and New York City feature an overnight visit to Ocean Cay, the line's private island and marine reserve. While there, singles can participate in fun-filled evening activities like a Champagne Sunset Cruise or a glow paddleboarding excursion in the lagoon, then attend the lively Luna Libre Party and the lighthouse show.

Holland America Line

Three of Holland America Line's newest ships each offer 12 solo cabins to accommodate single travelers: the Pinnacle-class Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Konigsdam. These ocean view staterooms range in size from 127 to 172 square feet and feature the same amenities as the double occupancy cabins but with a double bed. The cruise line's Single Staterooms are priced for one person. If a guest chooses to book a different stateroom, single supplements for double occupancy cabins are as much as 100% over the standard fare, depending on the voyage and the cabin category.

Long committed to solo travelers, the line offers many activities where guests can meet other singles such as wine tastings, cocktail mixers, exercise classes, daily quizzes, sports challenges and more. If you're a solo traveler and a member of AARP, Holland America is now the exclusive cruise benefit provider to AARP's members. Solo cruisers will have access to an AARP member-only onboard credit that ranges from $50 to $200, depending on the itinerary and stateroom category.

For itineraries, Holland America's Alaska cruises and cruisetours are perfect for solo travelers, offering many opportunities to connect with fellow cruisers. Another favorite for singles is the line's fall voyages sailing from Boston to Québec City or Montreal.

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International features studio staterooms on select ships that range in size from 101 to 199 square feet. These solo accommodations include interior rooms, virtual balcony staterooms and a super studio ocean view stateroom with a balcony. The cabins do not carry the single supplement fee singles encounter when booking other types of staterooms, making them an attractive option when traveling alone.

Once on board the ship, solo cruisers will have countless options to engage and socialize with other travelers. When it comes to dining with Royal Caribbean , make a reservation at the Japanese restaurant Teppanyaki for an entertaining meal with new friends, or join fellow foodies for the intimate Chef's Table experience (the dining venues vary by ship). Singles can also participate in onboard activities like trivia contests, drink seminars, escape rooms, dance classes and pool parties.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises' new Edge-class ships offer some of the best options for solo cruisers.
