How to right-click on a iPhone

I was familiar with laptops way before I started using my iPhone, so I thought that all the functions , including how to right-click, would be transferable on the phone. However, it came as a rude shock when I was lost for a moment on how to right-click on an iPhone.

Here is a short and simple tutorial so you wouldn’t end up like me. You can follow this whether you are on Safari, Chrome, YouTube, or even playing Minecraft; it’s the same method, and it isn’t different if it’s an iPhone 6, 12, 13, 14, X, or XR.

How Do I Right-Click On An iPhone?

How to right-click on an iPhone doesn’t take much effort; it involves touching and holding any part of your screen for some seconds, not necessarily for a minute, because as soon as you hold, iPhone is sensitive enough to know you want to activate the right click options which will bring the different context menu depending on the page you are on. This is called the Long Press; therefore, a long press is synonymous with a right click on an iPhone.

What happens When I Right Click on An iPhone Lockscreen?

As I’ve said earlier, right-clicking on different screens on your iPhone brings up separate functions. If you press and hold anywhere on your lock screen for a few seconds, it will bring up different options of lock screens for you to choose from, a “Customise” button and a plus icon. It might be three lock screen selections, two already made screens with your current and previous lock screens, and the last one with a plus button to choose another.

What happens When I Right Click on An iPhone Lockscreen?

Therefore, you now know a new way to choose a new lock screen; all you have to do is to right-click on your lock screen.

What Happens When I Right-Click On My iPhone Home Screen?

Right-clicking on an iPhone involves pressing and holding anywhere on a page, so if it happens to be on your home screen, it adds the minus icon to your apps, a plus button at the top left corner, and a “Done” button at the top right corner.

If you click on the “minus” option on any app, it brings you a menu to choose either you want to “Delete App,” which uninstalls the app from your phone, or “Remove from Home Screen,” which doesn’t uninstall the app but makes it inaccessible from the home screen until you get to the “App Library” and the final option: “Cancel” which allows you to cancel the action.

Uses Of The Right-Click Feature On An iPhone

There are different functions of the right-click feature on an iPhone. If you right-click over a text in Notes, it will highlight the text and display a pop-up menu that requires you to select from these actions: “Cut,” “Copy,” “Paste,” “Format,” “Find Selection,” and “Look Up.”

Right click on iPhone Notes

If you perform the same action on Google Chrome, the pop-up menu reads: “Copy,” “Look Up,” “Translate,” “Search Web,” “Share,” and “Create Link.”

Right-clicking on a text on the Safari app will bring up: “Copy,” “Find Selection,” “Look Up,” “Translate,” “Search Web,” “Share…,” and “New Quick Note.”

Right click on Safari

The right-click is a powerful feature on an iPhone, and it has different functions depending on the screen or app you right-click on. You can cut, paste, uninstall an app, and search anything on the web with just a right-click on an iPhone.

How do I do a right-click (secondary click) in Safari with my iPad?

iPad 2, iOS 4.3.2

You cannot bring up a contextual menu in Safari on the iPad like you can on the trackpad of a MacBook. In Safari you are limited to holding down on a link or an image to bring up some other options such as -Open, Open in New Page, or Copy. You can also bring up options for Save and Open In if you tap and hold down on images or PDF files and things like that.

Other browsers do offer some trackpad type gestures, scrolling, swiping to another page and so on, but Safari does not. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury and the Atomic web browsers. I believe iCab and Mercury support some of those gestures but I can't remember for sure. Check them out in the App Store.

Browse privately in Safari on Mac

When you browse privately , the details of your browsing aren’t saved, and the websites you visit aren’t shared with your other Apple devices.

A private Safari window with its dark Smart Search field, and a normal Safari window with its light Smart Search field.

Open Safari for me

Browse privately one time

A private browsing window has a dark Smart Search field with white text.

Browse as you normally would.

When you use Private Browsing:

Browsing initiated in one tab is isolated from browsing initiated in another tab, so websites you visit can’t track your browsing across multiple sessions.

Webpages you visit and your AutoFill information aren’t saved.

Your open webpages aren’t stored in iCloud , so they aren’t shown when you view all your open tabs from other Apple devices.

Your recent searches aren’t included in the results list when you use the Smart Search field.

Items you download aren’t included in the downloads list. (The items do remain on your computer.)

If you use Handoff , private browsing windows aren’t handed off to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or other Mac computers.

Changes to your cookies and website data aren’t saved.

Websites can’t modify information stored on your Mac, so services normally available at such sites may work differently until you use a non-private window.

Note: None of the above applies in non-private Safari windows you may have open.

Always browse privately

Click the “Safari opens with” pop-up menu, then choose “A new private window.”

safari iphone right click

Open Desktop & Dock settings for me

Stop browsing privately

Do any of the following to further enhance privacy:

Delete any items you downloaded while using private windows.

When you use Private Browsing, “Use advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection” is turned on by default. This setting blocks connections to data collection companies that use advanced fingerprinting techniques (a way of identifying your device based on data gathered while you browse), and known tracking parameters are removed from all URLs. You can turn this setting on for all browsing; see Change Advanced settings in Safari . Some website features may be affected when advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection is turned on. If the website you’re viewing is affected, choose View > Reload Reducing Privacy Protections.

Besides using private windows, you can manage cookies and data stored by all websites and prevent cross-site tracking .

If you forget to use a private window, you can clear your browsing history .
